Analysis
Chespin's Grass typing, access to Bulletproof, and reliable recovery in Synthesis allow it to wall staples like Foongus and check Ground-types like Alolan Diglett and Mudbray. It can leverage its bulk to make progress by setting Spikes. Bullet Seed has the benefit of breaking Substitute from Alolan Diglett. As an entry hazard setter, Chespin needs ways to deal with common entry hazard removal Pokemon, using Rock Slide to hit Vullaby super effectively while its Drain Punch stings Alolan Sandshrew. The given EV spread maximizes bulk, allowing Chespin to survive two High Jump Kicks from Mienfoo and two Ice Beams from Chinchou. Tera Steel grants Chespin resistances to Vullaby's Brave Bird and Alolan Sandshrew's Triple Axel as well as an immunity to Stunky's Gunk Shot. Meanwhile, Tera Fairy resists Knock Off and Mienfoo's High Jump Kick. Pokemon that struggle with Foongus such as Mienfoo and Chinchou appreciate Chespin's ability to switch in and set entry hazards to wear it down. Spikes can chip foes into KO range for wallbreakers such as Stunky and Alolan Diglett. Since Chespin is weak to Vullaby, partners such as Tinkatink and Glimmet can support it by switching in and setting Stealth Rock to limit Vullaby's longevity. These partners can also synergize with Chespin to form a hazard stacking core. Mareanie is a strong partner that can check Mienfoo and Fire-types like Salandit and Hisuian Growlithe. In return, Chespin can check Ground-types.
