Set Details Giga Drain, along with Roost, provides Decidueye with additional longevity, but Leaf Storm can provide immediate power to surprise opponents expecting physically offensive Decidueye sets. U-turn allows Decidueye to pivot on opposing Competitive and Defiant Pokemon like Kilowattrel and Tornadus that might otherwise take advantage of Defog, but Decidueye can also choose to run Shadow Ball to hit Grass-resistant Pokemon like Kilowattrel and Tornadus for neutral damage. With an Impish nature, Knock Off can be run as Decidueye's main attack, since it lets Decidueye threaten item-reliant Pokemon like Kilowattrel, Tornadus, and Incineroar that would otherwise easily take advantage of it. The given EV spread allows Decidueye to outspeed Adamant Incineroar, which otherwise threatens it with Knock Off. Analysis

Decidueye's niche as a Ghost-type wallbreaker is similar to Golurk's, however, its access to U-turn, higher Speed, and its ability to better check Xurkitree set it apart. However, it is substantially weaker, has no Ground-type STAB moves to immediately threaten Ghost-neutral Steel-types, and can't block Volt Switch. Poltergeist is Decidueye's strongest attack, threatening the likes of Togekiss and Noivern. U-turn gains momentum against negative matchups such as Incineroar. Shadow Sneak is a useful priority move that can hit threats such as Polteageist and Chandelure. Alternatively, Spirit Shackle is a decent option with Knock Off support to pressure Flying-types such as Togekiss, in addition to giving free momentum. Brave Bird hits Grass-types harder, having a chance to OHKO Vileplume after minimal chip damage and OHKOes Bewear from full health, but recoil damage can be a problem. Long Reach lets Decidueye use U-turn without fearing Rocky Helmet damage. Adamant is used to always OHKO Noivern, Calm Mind Reuniclus, and Polteageist after Stealth Rock. Moves Nasty Plot can be used to capitalize on the switches that Decidueye forces and lets it OHKO Pokemon such as Weezing and Vikavolt with a boosted Never-Ending Nightmare. Shadow Ball hits Pokemon such as Dhelmise and Xatu for heavy damage while offering good neutral coverage against Poison-types such as Garbodor and Weezing. Leaf Storm is Decidueye's strongest attack, with great coverage against top-tier threats such as Slowking, Rhydon, and Heliolisk while being Decidueye's best option against Pangoro. Energy Ball or Giga Drain can be run over it, but their lacking initial power hurts Decidueye's mid-game power. Roost is used to keep Decidueye healthy, letting it come in many times a game against foes such as Heliolisk, Blastoise, and Slowking and set up against Weezing. Set Details Maximum Speed and a Timid nature are required to outrun Incineroar, Adamant Garbodor, Blastoise, and Xatu. Maximum Special Attack gives Decidueye the power needed to threaten opposing Pokemon, such as OHKOing Palossand and Steelix after a Nasty Plot boost. Ghostium Z can be used to turn Shadow Ball into Never-Ending Nightmare, which lets Decidueye OHKO foes such as Weezing, Garbodor, and Vikavolt after a Nasty Plot. Grassium Z-boosted Leaf Storm is Decidueye's strongest possible attack and can OHKO Pangoro without needing a Nasty Plot boost while guaranteeing an OHKO on Incineroar after a Nasty Plot and one round of Stealth Rock. Usage Tips This Decidueye set should be brought in as many times as possible against bulky Water-types such as Blastoise, defensive Slowking, and Vaporeon, as it fears very little from them. While it does resist Ground, be more careful against Rhydon and Steelix, and try to bring Decidueye in when predicting them to set up Stealth Rock. Decidueye can also be brought in against Blastoise or Seismitoad to heal with Roost. Despite carrying Nasty Plot, Decidueye is often best off attacking with Leaf Storm or Shadow Ball, which hit hard enough to often OHKO foes without needing a boost. However, if the opponent is running Pokemon such as defensive Garbodor and Weezing that take little damage from Shadow Ball or Leaf Storm, Decidueye should use Nasty Plot and then aim to OHKO them with Never-Ending Nightmare. Be careful with the timing of Decidueye's Z-Move; Never-Ending Nightmare should be used after a Nasty Plot to OHKO foes such as Weezing, Garbodor, or a slightly weakened Incineroar, while Bloom Doom should be used to lure in and OHKO Pokemon such as Pangoro. Team Options Pangoro, Passimian, and Comfey greatly appreciate this set luring in and KOing Poison-types such as Weezing and Garbodor for them. The former two also heavily threaten Incineroar, one of this set's biggest roadblocks. Rhydon, Guzzlord, and Blastoise all wall and force out Incineroar, and given that this set generally allows Incineroar in, they make great teammates. Aerodactyl is a great teammate, bringing in Water-types such as Blastoise, trapping Delphox with Pursuit, and easily cleaning weakened teams after Decidueye wallbreaks. Aerodactyl also traps Sigilyph and Rotom, both of which can revenge kill Decidueye. Stealth Rock and Spikes users such as Steelix and Garbodor also pair excellently with this set, as it excels at blocking Rapid Spin from Blastoise and Dhelmise. Stealth Rock support is especially helpful for putting Incineroar into range of a +2 Bloom Doom and giving a +2 Never-Ending-Nightmare good odds to OHKO it.

Moves Decidueye is a good user of Defog because it can pressure entry hazard setters such as Rhydon, Steelix, Seismitoad, and Palossand with Grass Knot. Roost keeps Decidueye healthy throughout the match so it can continue to pivot in against Pokemon such as Heliolisk, Sceptile, and Medicham. U-turn lets Decidueye exit the battle from bad matchups such as against Incineroar, Delphox, and Magmortar. Giga Drain can be used instead to give Decidueye an extra form of recovery and can potentially get it out of KO range from Slowking's Fire Blast. Set Details With the given EV spread and a Colbur Berry, Decidueye can take two Knock Offs from Passimian and is able to pivot in and out of special attackers such as Heliolisk, Sceptile, and Comfey. It can also survive Pursuit from Sneasel and more or less get out of the battle with U-turn. 16 EVs in Speed allow Decidueye to outspeed maximum Speed Rhydon. Long Reach allows Decidueye to pivot out with U-turn without being punished by Xatu and Garbodor's Rocky Helmet. Leftovers is also a viable item on this set to give Decidueye more passive recovery. Usage Tips Decidueye should aim to clear entry hazards as soon as possible, but make sure that Toxic Spikes are cleared first, as being afflicted with bad poison hinders its solid bulk. In order to get Decidueye into battle, it is advised to bring it in against a Pokemon it is not immediately threatened by such as Heliolisk, Sceptile, and Passimian locked into Close Combat. It can also come in against common Stealth Rock setters like Rhydon, Seismitoad, and Palossand as they are setting up entry hazards. This play can be risky, though, because Rhydon, Palossand, and Steelix can threaten Decidueye with heavy damage. Since Decidueye can usually force these Pokemon out of the battle, it can be a good idea to use Roost if it has taken prior damage or U-turn to escape from Grass-resistant Pokemon like Incineroar, Sceptile, and Togedemaru. Team Options Pokemon like Incineroar, Mega Glalie, and Braviary appreciate Decidueye's ability to clear entry hazards and beat Stealth Rock setters like Rhydon and Seismitoad. Incineroar can also form a U-turn core with Decidueye and check Ice- and Grass-types for it, while in return Decidueye can help beat Water-types for Incineroar. Grounded Poison-types like Garbodor can help clear Toxic Spikes for Decidueye. Garbodor also appreciates Decidueye's ability to beat Stealth Rock setters. Decidueye can also form VoltTurn cores with Pokemon like Passimian, Heliolisk, and Rotom. Passimian can also help Decidueye beat Dark-type Pokemon like Sneasel, while Rotom can help beat Ghost-types like Dhelmise. In return, Decidueye can beat Ground-types for Rotom and Heliolisk, letting them use Volt Switch more often. Pokemon like Rhydon, Togedemaru, and Sneasel appreciate Decidueye's immunity to Fighting-type moves. Bulky Water-types like Slowking, Vaporeon, and Blastoise can help keep Fire-types at bay. Vaporeon can also use Heal Bell to heal Decidueye of status conditions.

Moves Leaf Storm can easily pressure Stealth Rock setters like Rhydon and Seismitoad, which is why Decidueye makes a good offensive Defogger. Roost heals Decidueye if it has taken prior damage and allows it to stay healthy so it can keep pivoting or using Defog if needed. U-turn allows Decidueye to pivot out of Pokemon like Dhelmise and bring in a teammate that can deal with said threat. Shadow Ball can also be used with Ghostium Z to threaten Pokemon like Weezing, Druddigon, Garbodor, and Vikavolt, but it leaves Decidueye helpless against Pokemon like Braviary and is difficult to justify considering how important Decidueye's other moves are. Set Details A Timid nature with maximum Special Attack and Speed investment allows Decidueye to hit as hard and be as fast as possible. Colbur Berry allows Decidueye to take at least one Knock Off or Pursuit from users such as Incineroar, Passimian, and Sneasel and pivot out immediately. Grassium Z is the preferred offensive item on this set, since it makes Decidueye a lot more effective at checking Pokemon like Steelix and Slowking, and even has the added bonus of OHKOing Pangoro from full health . It also bypasses Leaf Storm's Special Attack drops. Miracle Seed can be used instead to give a boost to Leaf Storm without recoil, as Miracle Seed-boosted Leaf Storm puts Assault Vest Slowking in range of U-turn, putting it in an even tougher position. It also threatens to OHKO Piloswine, Regirock, Vaporeon, and Blastoise, OHKO Pangoro after U-turn, and 2HKO Steelix. Overgrow is the preferred ability so Leaf Storm can be boosted in a critical moment. Usage Tips Decidueye should aim to clear entry hazards as soon as it can and avoid Toxic Spikes at all costs. It should aim to come in against Stealth Rock setters like Rhydon, bulky Water-types like Vaporeon and Blastoise, or Pokemon that are of no immediate threat to it like Heliolisk. However, be cautious if Rhydon goes for Stone Edge instead of Stealth Rock expecting Decidueye to come in and clear Stealth Rock. Decidueye's Z-Move should be saved to heavily dent certain foes such as Steelix, Slowking, and Pangoro. After it has forced out a Stealth Rock setter, Decidueye can recover with Roost, clear hazards with Defog, or use U-turn to pivot out of battle against a bad matchup such as against Magmortar, Weezing, and Togedemaru. Because this set does not use Long Reach, be cautious of using U-turn against Pokemon like Rocky Helmet Weezing. Team Options Decidueye fits best on teams that need an answer to Stealth Rock setters while also removing entry hazards. Pokemon like Magmortar, Delphox, and Sneasel appreciate Decidueye's ability to provide Defog support, beat Stealth Rock setters, and bring them in safely with U-turn. In return, these Pokemon can beat other Grass-types and, in Magmortar and Delphox's case, Steel-types that resist Decidueye's Leaf Storm. Garbodor is also a good partner for Decidueye because it can clear Toxic Spikes for Decidueye. In return, Decidueye can beat bulky Ground-types. Water-types such as Slowking and Vaporeon also beat Fire-type Pokemon for Decidueye. Flying-types such as Braviary, Vivillon, and Sigilyph can help Decidueye beat other Grass-types. In return, Decidueye can beat Rhydon and Steelix for these Pokemon. Other pivots such as Rotom, Vikavolt, and Choice Scarf Passimian can form a pivoting core with Decidueye. Analysis

Moves Substitute is very useful for giving Decidueye more opportunities to either attack or boost safely while protecting it from some attacks like Bisharp's Sucker Punch and status from the Pokemon it sets up on. Decidueye can take advantage of passive Pokemon like Blissey, Alomomola, and Slowbro to find times to set up a Substitute. Leaf Blade threatens common Water- and Ground-type tanks like Slowbro, Alomomola, Suicune, and Hippowdon and is also useful for being able to break through the Unaware users in Quagsire and Pyukumuku. Sinister Arrow Raid lets Decidueye break through sturdy walls such as Chesnaught and Mega Altaria when boosted while even KOing some Ghost-resistant Pokemon like Bisharp and Hydreigon. Set Details 32 HP EVs let Decidueye survive Choice Scarf Krookodile's Knock Off and Choice Scarf Hydreigon's Dark Pulse from full health. Both Jolly and Adamant natures are viable; Jolly helps Decidueye check slower offensive powerhouses like Primarina and Bewear and Speed tie Bisharp and Metagross, while Adamant gives it more power to break walls down and damage Ghost-resistant Pokemon like Hydreigon. Usage Tips Be careful when using Decidueye early-game if your opponent has a trapper such as Krookodile or Mega Aerodactyl. It's often good to use Substitute in order to scout these Pokemon and potentially hit them hard with Leaf Blade or Spirit Shackle. Decidueye should be brought in through pivoting moves and after fainted Pokemon most of the time, as even against the Pokemon it sets up on, it can risk being afflicted with Scald burns or Toxic poison, which greatly hinder or even ruin its chances to break through teams. When using Decidueye against stall, try to wear down the few Pokemon those teams carry that can potentially stop a Decidueye sweep like Moltres and Hydreigon. It is worth it to preserve Decidueye's health so it can find more opportunities to set up later in the game rather than blowing its chance early and being revenge killed. There are many Pokemon that can't touch Decidueye at all behind a Substitute, such as Blissey, Alomomola, Slowbro lacking Psyshock, Quagsire, Suicune, and non-Whirlwind Hippowdon. Use Substitute on these Pokemon to initiate a sweep. Against offensive teams, it is often wise to use Decidueye's Z-Move relatively early to take a huge hit out of a Pokemon that resists Decidueye's STAB moves and open paths for other Pokemon more geared to sweeping against faster teams to win; Choice Scarf Hydreigon is a great target for this strategy. Decidueye often won't get chances to use Swords Dance against these teams. Instead, rely on using Substitute to force trades and attacking with your STAB moves. Team Options Entry hazard support helps Decidueye break down defensive cores more easily. Amongst Spikes users, Klefki and Froslass in particular have great synergy with Decidueye, with Klefki checking Dark-types for it directly and Froslass being able to lure some like Hydreigon and Krookodile in and weaken them for Decidueye to KO them. Offensive Stealth Rock users such as Terrakion, Cobalion, and Nihilego are good choices to complement Decidueye, as they can wallbreak while laying down hazards. Decidueye also appreciates partners that can take advantage of Dark-types, which often come in to take its Ghost-type STAB moves or to attempt to revenge kill it. This can be done either defensively with Fairy-types like Togekiss and Mega Altaria or offensively with Justified users like Terrakion and Cobalion. However, to check faster opposing Ghost-types that may attempt to revenge kill it, Dark-types themselves work well as partners for Decidueye: Hydreigon stands out for having access to recovery while also potentially helping to remove hazards for Decidueye, while Krookodile and Alolan Muk can Pursuit trap many of Decidueye's potential revenge killers. VoltTurn users like Scizor, Rotom-H, and Mega Manectric are also heavily appreciated to safely get in Decidueye without having to hard switch. Additionally, entry hazard removal can be vital for Decidueye's ability to complete sweeps. Poison-types can be helpful to absorb Toxic Spikes, which is the most detrimental hazard for Decidueye, preventing it from performing its job. Examples include Tentacruel, which can remove other hazards; Nihilego, which can check most Flying-types; and Alolan Muk, which can use Pursuit on faster threats like Gengar, Chandelure, and Latias. Otherwise, Mega Blastoise, Starmie, and Mega Altaria all can be good partners both offensively and for their ability to Rapid Spin or Defog. Lastly, cleaners can take advantage of Decidueye's breaking power to burst through weakened teams. Mega Sharpedo is an excellent example of this, also setting up on some of Decidueye's revenge killers like Choice Scarf Hydreigon and Krookodile, as are Swords Dance Scizor and Bisharp.

Analysis

Moves Swords Dance turns Decidueye into a threatening sweeper by boosting its Attack. Spirit Shackle is used to hit Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokemon such as Mew and Alolan Marowak super effectively while hitting the vast majority of the metagame, along with Pokemon such as Zapdos, for neutral damage. It also has the side effect of trapping the foe. Shadow Sneak is Decidueye's priority attack and is used to pick off faster Pokemon such as Blacephalon, Victini, and Latios when boosted. Roost provides Decidueye with reliable recovery, which helps it set up more comfortably without getting worn down. Set Details Maximum Attack investment along with an Adamant nature allow Decidueye to serve as an efficient cleaner by allowing it to hit as hard as possible. Maximum Speed investment allows Decidueye to be as fast as possible, outspeeding Pokemon such as Mantine and Metagross. Spooky Plate boosts both of Decidueye's Ghost STAB attacks, which allows it to always OHKO Victini with a +2 boosted Shadow Sneak after Stealth Rock damage. Decidium Z can be used over Spooky Plate and lets Decidueye use Sinister Arrow Raid, a move that is capable of breaking through extremely bulky foes such as Toxapex and Celesteela when boosted. Long Reach prevents Decidueye from taking contact damage from Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Garchomp when using Shadow Sneak. An alternative EV spread of 84 HP / 252 Attack / 172 Speed can be used for more power and bulk while still outspeeding Jolly Azumarill and -1 Choice Band Victini. Usage Tips Try to preserve Decidueye so it can set up and sweep effectively. The ideal time to try to set up Decidueye is late-game when its checks and counters have been weakened. This is especially important in the Psychic matchup, where Decidueye can check a huge threat to Grass teams in Victini after Stealth Rock damage with a Swords Dance boost. However, in matchups such as Dragon, Dark, and Normal, where it may have trouble sweeping, try to use Decidueye mid-game to weaken the opposing team as much as possible for its other offensive teammates to sweep. Decidueye can also utilize its Spirit Shackle in order to trap passive Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and set up safely using Swords Dance. Wear down offensive checks such as Mega Charizard Y into boosted Shadow Sneak's range before setting up. Avoid taking unnecessary damage before Decidueye is ready to come in and sweep, as taking unnecessary damage will hinder its ability to set up with its already limited bulk. For the same reason, Decidueye should be brought in after a teammate has fainted or through an aggressive switch. Try to lay down entry hazards such as Stealth Rock and Spikes from teammates such as Cradily and Ferrothorn, as they help chip down the opposing team for Decidueye's sweep. This is especially important in the Psychic matchup, as Stealth Rock chip damage is needed for Decidueye to knock Victini out with a boosted Shadow Sneak. Similarly, try to switch Decidueye in on a predicted Rapid Spin to keep said hazards on the field. Status conditions, namely burn and paralysis, will hinder Decidueye's ability to set up and sweep by cutting down its Attack and Speed. Therefore, it should avoid setting up on status users such as Will-O-Wisp Mew and Thunder Wave Slowbro, as well as unnecessarily switching in on Scald. Sinister Arrow Raid should be preserved for bulkier targets such as Toxapex, Celesteela, and Zapdos. Therefore, Decidueye should try to trap and isolate said Pokemon with Spirit Shackle in order to get a guaranteed hit on them. Decidueye should also be wary of Protect users such as Toxapex and Celesteela that can try to block Sinister Arrow Raid and play around them accordingly. Team Options Mega Venusaur is a great partner for Decidueye because of its natural bulk, defensive typing, and Thick Fat, which allows it to take a variety of attacks such as Greninja's Ice Beam, Alolan Muk's Knock Off, and Celesteela's Flamethrower. It can also support Decidueye using Leech Seed and remove Toxic Spikes, increasing its longevity. Ferrothorn's good defensive typing and bulk allow it to switch in and take a plethora of attacks, while its Gyro Ball is able to knock out Ice-type Pokemon such as Kyurem-B and its Spikes are helpful for wearing down the opposing team for Decidueye's sweep. Its Leech Seed also gives Decidueye a form of recovery and helps it set up. With its good special bulk and Rock typing, Cradily is able to take on special Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon such as Volcarona, Mega Charizard Y, and Tornadus-T for Decidueye, while its Stealth Rock chips down Decidueye's checks and counters such as Victini and Skarmory for its sweep. In return, Decidueye is able to keep up Ferrothorn and Cradily's entry hazards by blocking Rapid Spin users such as Armaldo from removing them. Decidueye is also able to switch into Fighting-type moves such as Terrakion's Close Combat and Keldeo's Secret Sword for Ferrothorn and Cradily. Choice Scarf Tapu Bulu can outspeed faster Pokemon that threaten Decidueye such as Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona and knock them out with Stone Edge, while its Grassy Terrain boosts the power of Decidueye's Leaf Blade and provides it with passive recovery, allowing it to set up more easily. Breloom can threaten Normal- and Dark-type Pokemon such as Mega Lopunny, Chansey, Bisharp and Hydreigon using Mach Punch and create setup opportunities for Decidueye with Spore. In return, Decidueye can threaten faster Psychic-type Pokemon for Breloom such as Latios and Alolan Raichu with its boosted Shadow Sneak. Whimsicott can support Decidueye by using Stun Spore to slow down faster Pokemon and Encore to create setup opportunities for Decidueye. It can also threaten Dark- and Dragon-type Pokemon such as Mandibuzz, Hydreigon, and Kyurem-B using its Moonblast.

Moves Spirit Shackle is Decidueye's main attacking move, used to trap defensive Pokemon like Mega Venusaur, Sap Sipper Azumarill, and Ferrothorn. Roost is used to give Decidueye a form of consistent recovery. Defog allows Decidueye to fill the role of an entry hazard remover, which is helpful for teammates that are weak to Stealth Rock, such as Alolan Marowak and Blacephalon. Swords Dance augments Decidueye's offensive presence, allowing it to muscle past defensive walls like Clefable, Ferrothorn, and Mega Venusaur. Set Details Maximum HP investment is used to make Decidueye as bulky as possible. 100 EVs in Defense allow Decidueye to avoid a 2HKO from Choice Scarf Excadrill's Iron Head. 96 EVs in Speed let it outspeed Adamant Azumarill and remove Klefki's screens with Defog so a teammate like Mimikyu can safely revenge kill it. The remaining EVs are put into Special Defense with a Careful nature, allowing Decidueye to safely switch into special attackers like Tapu Koko and Landorus. Leftovers is used to give Decidueye a small amount of recovery each turn. Usage Tips Make sure to keep Decidueye healthy so that it can switch into special attackers that Ghost has difficulty dealing with, such as Landorus and Tapu Koko, more easily. Against defensive Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur, try to predict when they'll go for a non-attacking move, such as Protect or Synthesis, to safely switch in. It's best to switch in Mega Sableye against an entry hazard setter that Decidueye is unable to beat, such as Torkoal, Swampert, or Skarmory. However, to preserve Mega Sableye's health, it's best to trap and remove entry hazard setters that can beat Mega Sableye, such as Clefable. Avoid status conditions as much as possible since burn prevents Decidueye from breaking past Mega Venusaur and Azumarill, and poison quickly wears it down each turn. It's a good idea to start setting up with Swords Dance when Decidueye is at full health so that it won't have to recover with Roost as often. Team Options Mega Sableye can switch into Dark-type attacks for Decidueye and bounce back status moves such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp. In return, Decidueye can switch into special attackers like Landorus and Tapu Koko. Gengar is able to revenge kill Diggersby, Blacephalon, and Heatran for Decidueye. It can also absorb Toxic Spikes to allow Decidueye to safely switch in against Water and Poison teams. Mimikyu can check Dark-types like Hydreigon and Tyranitar. In return, Decidueye can remove entry hazards like Toxic Spikes and Sticky Web, which would otherwise prevent Mimikyu from sweeping late-game. Alolan Marowak can switch into Fire-type attacks and beat Steel-types that Decidueye can't handle such as Skarmory and Mega Scizor. Blacephalon can break past defensive walls such as Porygon2 and Skarmory and check threatening Dragon-types like Garchomp and Dragonite with Hidden Power Ice. Jellicent can switch into and beat Fire-types like Heatran and Volcarona for Decidueye as well as switch into Ice-type attacks. It can also counter Water-types that can set up on or burn Decidueye with Scald, such as Calm Mind Keldeo and Suicune. In return, Decidueye can trap and eventually beat bulky Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur, which are immune to Jellicent's Toxic. Shedinja can switch into offensive Pokemon like Mega Lopunny and defensive Mega Scizor, both of which beat Decidueye. It also appreciates Decidueye removing entry hazards in order to keep it alive. Cofagrigus is able to cripple physical attackers like Mamoswine and Mega Aerodactyl with Will-O-Wisp and can also wear down Normal teams with Toxic Spikes.
