Analysis

Set Details Ditto distinguishes itself with the entirely unique combination of Imposter + Choice Scarf. Ditto's ability enables it to morph into a revenge killer with great potential to reverse sweep teams with the boosts it copies, so it deters setup sweepers like Flygon, Cinccino, Munkidori, Paldean Tauros-W, Toxtricity, and Scyther. Maximum physical bulk and minimum Speed help Ditto to trigger an opposing Ditto's Imposter first and PP stall it. Tera Steel helps Ditto against Cinccino, Flygon, Alolan Ninetales, and Oricorio-P, and it can turn the tables for Ditto in risky Speed ties against Choice Scarf variants of Flamigo and Porygon-Z. Lessened damage from Stealth Rock and a Toxic Spikes immunity are also nice perks from Tera Steel. Tera Fairy provides Ditto a neat defensive typing with helpful Dark, Bug, and Fighting resistances to better stomach priority moves like Sucker Punch, First Impression, Mach Punch, and Vacuum Wave. The Normal and Fighting immunities from Tera Ghost help Ditto against Cincinno and Porygon-Z, Paldean Tauros-W and other Fighting-types, and bulky Body Press sweepers like Bronzong. Ditto is a good filler option for teams in need of an emergency answer to setup sweepers, and most teams can appreciate Ditto's ability to check weather teams by copying Speed-boosting weather abilities like Swift Swim, Slush Rush, and Chlorophyll. Stall teams can rely on Ditto as an anti-setup option that provides opportunities they'd otherwise lack for reverse sweeping. Offensive teams can worry less about fitting defensive counterplay for major offensive threats by running Ditto, and Ditto itself can work as a wincon if it copies a setup sweeper. Balance teams appreciate Ditto's ability to deter offensive setup sweepers, and they have the defensive backbone necessary to compensate for Ditto needing to switch out after being locked into a move by Choice Scarf. The virtually infinite PP Ditto can bring with Imposter helps in matchups against stall teams, and it can use Imposter to copy abilities like Regenerator from Amoonguss and Natural Cure from Altaria. Imposter's ability to overwrite the Speed drop from Sticky Web and copy Speed-boosting weather abilities helps Ditto out against hyper offense teams, lessening the strain Cinccino and other fast threats like Choice Scarf Flygon are under to answer these teams. However, Ditto itself can be surprised by Terastallization from threats like Flygon and Scyther, so it relies on secondary checks to setup sweepers. Scream Tail can disrupt setup sweepers with its fast Encore, while Ditto exploits threats that continue to try and boost against it, such as Oricorio-P.
