Analysis

Set Details Choice Band gives Flygon more immediate power, allowing it to always 2HKO non-Heavy-Duty Boots Amoongus after Stealth Rock with Earthquake. Outrage is still an option to allow Flygon to 2HKO Vaporeon, but Scale Shot is preferred so Flygon isn't easily revenge killed by Fairy-types, and it makes Flygon harder to revenge kill overall. Alternatively, Dragon Claw offers Flygon a reliable and decently powered STAB move. First Impression revenge kills weakened foes like opposing Flygon, Munkidori, and Raikou. However, Throat Chop provides coverage for Bronzong and shuts down Hyper Voice Sylveon whereas Stone Edge pops Kilowattrel and Alolan Ninetales on the switch. Tera Steel is a great defensive typing and allows Flygon to pivot without getting chipped heavily by Stealth Rock, but Tera Bug gives First Impression a power boost. Choice Band Flygon likes having entry hazard support from teammates like Klefki, Copperajah, and Duraludon to wear down foes that can repeatedly switch into it. Many Pokemon that tend to struggle against bulky Water-types like Vaporeon and Milotic, such as Flamigo, Infernape, and Basculegion, appreciate Choice Band Flygon's ability to 2HKO them on the switch. However, while it can 2HKO most bulky Water-types, it can't always beat them one-on-one, so it pairs well with Grass-types like Tsareena and Amoonguss. Physically defensive Pokemon like Gligar and Whimsicott can take Flygon's attacks with ease, so it pairs best with Pokemon like Basculegion-M, Munkidori, and Chandelure that can handle these physical walls.

Analysis

Set Details Outrage is one of Flygon's strongest STAB attacks for late-game cleaning, and it can 2HKO foes like Tsareena and Kilowattrel on a switch. Dragon Claw is a safer option to avoid getting locked into Outrage, but it's significantly weaker and is harder to revenge kill foes with. U-turn allows Flygon to maintain momentum and provide free switches to teammates. Flygon's last move is commonly Stone Edge, which allows it to hit Flying-types like Kilowattrel as well as Ice-types such as Alolan Ninetales. Alternatively, Stealth Rock allows it to set entry hazards for its teammates. Flygon can run Throat Chop last for a move with great neutral coverage into the entire tier while hitting Bronzong super effectively. First Impression can be used over Stone Edge, allowing Flygon to revenge kill weakened boosted and faster threats like Drednaw and Choice Scarf Munkidori. Tera Steel gives Flygon a resistance to Fairy- and Dragon-type attacks from Pokemon like Sylveon, Florges, and opposing Flygon. This also allows it to check some special wallbreakers like Alolan Ninetales, and Munkidori. Wallbreakers like Chandelure, Infernape, and Basculegion-M appreciate Choice Scarf Flygon for giving them free entry with U-turn. Flygon can form a VoltTurn core with special attackers like Bellibolt, Raikou, and Kilowattrel. They can threaten physical walls like Vaporeon, Avalugg, and Amoonguss; in return, Flygon can pressure special walls like Duraludon and Copperajah. Choice Scarf Flygon struggles to break past bulky Water-types like Vaporeon, Swampert, and Milotic, which tank its attacks and punish it with Scald, Knock Off, or a slow Flip Turn. Grass-types like Tsareena, Decidueye, and Amoonguss similarly appreciate Flygon's U-turn giving them free entry to handle the aforementioned bulky Water-types. Steel-types like Copperajah and Bronzong appreciate Flygon for checking Fire-types like Chandelure, Infernape, and Incineroar; in return, they can check Fairy-types like Sylveon, Florges, and Scream Tail. Choice Scarf Flygon appreciates entry hazard support from Copperajah, Klefki, and Swampert, as it can wear down foes to help with Choice Scarf Flygon's low damage output.

Analysis

Set Details Dragon Dance with a Scale Shot boost allows Flygon to outspeed the entire tier, including common Choice Scarf users like Munkidori and Infernape. Dropping Scale Shot for Outrage is acceptable to run a different item, but this makes Flygon significantly more reliant on obtaining multiple Dragon Dance boosts to avoid being revenge killed. Fire Punch allows Flygon to hit Grass-types like Tsareena, Amoonguss, and Decidueye, as well as Steel-types like Bronzong, Copperajah, and Tera Steel Flygon. Alternatively, Throat Chop lets Flygon target Bronzong, and it blocks Sylveon from using Hyper Voice. Tera Steel allows it to take attacks from Alolan Ninetales, Sylveon, Munkidori, and Flygon more easily. With Tera Steel, Flygon can also exploit Pokemon like Amoonguss for easier setup. Tera Fire gives Fire Punch a much-needed power boost and retains the resistance to Fairy-type attacks that Tera Steel gives while offering a burn immunity. Clear Amulet is preferred to avoid Incineroar's and Paldean Tauros-W's Intimidate, but Loaded Dice can be used to improve Scale Shot's effectiveness. However, more niche items like Leftovers and Muscle Band are usable, and Dragon Dance Flygon's EV spread is so malleable that many sets can get away with running Adamant. Dragon Dance Flygon appreciates entry hazard support from Klefki and Swampert to guarantee a 2HKO on Pokemon like Amoonguss and Vaporeon. Flygon is a perfect pick for hyper offense teams due to its Sticky Web immunity and because it can sweep opposing hyper offense teams. It can also punish lead hazard setters like Cinccino and Smeargle by setting up a Dragon Dance and breaking their Focus Sashes with Scale Shot. Other sweepers like Cinccino, Munkidori, and Scyther appreciate Dragon Dance Flygon's ability to weaken teams so they can win late-game. Choice Scarf users like Munkidori and Infernape can force Flygon to switch out even if it's at +1 because they can still outspeed it. Thus, slow pivots like Bellibolt, Swampert, and Flip Turn Vaporeon can help by bringing Flygon in safely. Other Pokemon that overwhelm Bronzong alongside Flygon synergize especially well. Therefore, Scream Tail, Munkidori, Alolan Ninetales, and Tornadus make for great partners.

Analysis

Scale Shot paired with Loaded Dice allows Flygon to damage and outpace foes like Munkidori, Kilowattrel, and Choice Scarf Flamigo while crucially threatening the tier's most common Defog user in Altaria. First Impression allows Flygon to revenge kill weakened foes like Drednaw, Munkidori, and Scream Tail. Throat Chop allows Flygon to block sound-based attacks from foes like Sylveon and Roar Vaporeon as well as hit Bronzong. Dragon Tail can also be used to force out sweepers like Shell Smash Drednaw and Bulk Up Scrafty; however, Flygon prefers to run other moves due to them having more utility and being more usable. U-turn lets Flygon freely pivot and chip walls like Bronzong, Swampert, and Gligar while bluffing a Choice Scarf set. Insect Plate increases the power of both First Impression and U-turn, while Leftovers provides Flygon useful recovery. Rocky Helmet can be used to punish Pokemon like Munkidori and Flamigo by chipping them, but Flygon's lack of any recovery makes running other items preferred. Tera Steel lets it better handle threats such as Munkidori and Sylveon, while Tera Fairy allows it to better handle Fighting- and Dark-types like Flamigo, Scrafty, and Incineroar on top of walling opposing Flygon. Tera Bug gives First Impression and U-turn an extra power boost but grants Flygon a weakness to Stealth Rock. Faster Pokemon like Munkidori, Kilowattrel, and Choice Scarf Flamigo can easily revenge kill Flygon, so it best partners with walls like Bronzong, Galarian Slowbro, and Bellibolt that can check them. Wallbreakers like Chandelure, Substitute Basculegion-M, and Swords Dance Flamigo appreciate Flygon’s U-turn giving them free entry on passive walls such as Vaporeon, Bronzong, and Amoonguss. Spikes setters such as Gligar, Klefki, and Overqwil synergize greatly with Flygon, since they can help each other wear down shared checks like Bronzong, Wo-Chien, and Amoonguss. Special walls like Bronzong, Copperajah, and Wo-Chien can help Flygon by better handling special attackers like Sylveon, Alolan Ninetales, and Uxie. Wish passers like Vaporeon and Sylveon provide Flygon useful recovery, allowing it to repeatedly switch into threats like Toxicroak, Munkidori, and Raikou.
