Gardevoir Movesets & Competitive Sets

Gardevoir is a fantastic Choice Scarf user for Psychic teams thanks to its Fairy typing and access to Moonblast, which allows it to revenge kill otherwise troublesome Dark-types. Psychic is a great STAB option that prevents Gardevoir from being walled by Poison-types like Toxapex, while Healing Wish can be used late-game to allow a weakened teammate to clean up. Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment maximizes Gardevoir's offensive capabilities, as it does not need to invest in bulk. Every Pokemon on Psychic appreciates Gardevoir's ability to manage Dark-types, as they are a large threat to the type. Furthermore, frailer offensive threats such as Indeedee and Gallade greatly value Gardevoir's ability to keep weather sweepers in check. Gardevoir is walled by bulky Steel-types such as Aegislash and Corviknight, making Pokemon that can wear them down, such as Hatterene, good partners. Furthermore, entry hazard support from the likes of Bronzong and Mew makes cleaning with Gardevoir late-game much easier, as Gardevoir often falls short of KOing opposing Pokemon without sufficient chip damage.

Thanks to its ability Trace, Gardevoir is specifically used to revenge kill common threatening weather sweepers for Fairy-type teams. With coverage moves like Energy Ball and Focus Blast, Gardevoir is able to revenge kill threats like Seismitoad, Drednaw, Barraskewda, and Excadrill against Water- and Ground-type teams, respectively. Additionally, Gardevoir helps in beating Poison-type Pokemon such as Toxtricity and Gengar, which can be pain otherwise for Fairy-type teams. Gardevoir has low bulk, so it should be brought in via a free switch after a Pokemon has fainted to revenge kill the foe or through aggressive double switching to threaten opposing Pokemon. The Speed EVs along with a Choice Scarf and Trace make it possible to outspeed the aforementioned weather sweepers. Slower Pokemon such as Nasty Plot Togekiss and Mimikyu benefit from Gardevoir's ability to revenge kill faster Pokemon like Salazzle and weather sweepers of Water- and Ground-type teams. Wallbreakers like Bulk Up Grimmsnarl appreciate Gardevoir as a cleaner. Due to its middling Speed stat, faster revenge killers can outspeed and threaten to beat it, hence Pokemon like Ribombee can provide Sticky Web support to allow Gardevoir to outspeed opposing Pokemon more readily.

Hyper Voice, after being boosted by Pixilate, provides Mega Gardevoir with a strong Fairy-type STAB option, demolishing even targets hit for neutral damage with ease. Psyshock lets Mega Gardevoir break past specially defensive walls such as Chansey and Blissey, as well as being a strong Psychic-type STAB attack to break past the likes of Toxapex, Galarian Slowking, and Amoonguss. Moves Psyshock is Gardevoir's main STAB move, allowing it to hit threats such as Salazzle, Dragalge, and Venusaur. Moonblast is Gardevoir's secondary STAB move, which is a much safer move to spam and hits threats such as Flygon. Will-O-Wisp cripples offensive Steel-types like Metagross and Escavalier, which are often an opponent's only solid Gardevoir switch-ins, while Trick hinders bulkier Pokemon like Registeel and Curse Snorlax. Healing Wish is used to heal a worn-down teammate in order for them to threaten the opponent's team again. Memento can aid a setup sweeper such as Bararacle, or Dragon Dance Zygarde-10% by lowering the opponent's Attack and Special Attack. Focus Blast is an option to hit Steel-types like Registeel, but it does not hit very hard unboosted. However, refrain from using Trick if the opponent's setup sweepers have not been taken care of. Playing recklessly with allied wallbreakers such as Dragalge is fine, as Gardevoir can use Healing Wish to bring one of them back to full health late-game. Therefore, refraining from using Healing Wish until then is a good idea. Lastly, keep in mind that bluffing a Choice Specs set will cause foes to switch out to Steel-types often. Team Options Wallbreakers such as Choice Band Escavalier and Choice Specs Dragalge appreciate Gardevoir as a cleaner and a Healing Wish user; Choice Band Escavalier is frequently used to trap Pokemon like Bronzong and opposing Gardevoir, and Choice Specs Dragalge is commonly used as a switch-in to threats like Virizion. Salazzle has good synergy with Choice Scarf Gardevoir, as it can power through walls with a +2 Acid Downpour, leaving Gardevoir to clean. Salazzle can also take advantage of Pokemon that tend to switch into Gardevoir, such as Florges and Escavalier. Finally, the aforementoned Choice Band Escavalier with Pursuit is also a good partner, as it can weaken Bronzong and Metagross, two of the best checks to Gardevoir.

Moves Psyshock is Gardevoir's primary STAB move, which allows it to get past specially defensive Pokemon such as Florges. Moonblast hits Dark-types and is a more spammable STAB move, as no Pokemon are immune to it and it is much stronger. Shadow Ball is an option to hit Bronzong and Metagross, which otherwise take all of Gardevoir's hits relatively easily. Hidden Power Fire allows Gardevoir to lure and KO Escavalier, which is one of its best answers. Alternatively, Focus Blast can be used to hit Registeel hard, as it resists both of Gardevoir's STAB moves. Trick cripples bulkier Pokemon. Healing Wish is an option to allow a weakened teammate to sweep after Gardevoir has weakened the opposing team. Set Details Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment ensures that Gardevoir outspeeds bulky Pokemon and hits as hard as possible. A Timid nature is preferred for this set, as it allows Gardevoir to outspeed Pokemon like Vanilluxe, Mega Blastoise, and Necrozma. A Modest nature can be used for more power at the cost of outspeeding these Pokemon. Trace lets Gardevoir copy useful abilities such as Regenerator, Water Absorb, Sheer Force, Adaptability, and Levitate. It can also copy Chlorophyll and Sand Rush, which turns the tables versus weather teams. Usage Tips Gardevoir should be used as a wallbreaker and should never switch into attacks from an offensive Pokemon. Most bulky Pokemon will attempt to switch out and play around Gardevoir, so try to predict the opponent and use the move that deals with their switch-in. Try to have entry hazards up before wallbreaking with Gardevoir. Trick can completely dismantle setup sweepers, but watch out for Z-Crystals, as it will fail if the foe is holding one; notable examples of Z-Crystal users are Cresselia on stall teams and Slowbro. Team Options Choice Scarf users such as Flygon capitalize on Gardevoir's ability to break bulky Pokemon. They can also take care of the Steel-types that check Gardevoir, especially Registeel and Metagross. Fire-types such as Arcanine, Ninetales, and Salazzle have nice synergy with Gardevoir, as they can help it take down Steel-types, while Gardevoir can break the bulky Water- and Ground-type Pokemon for them. Pokemon that can switch into Steel-types, in general, are good partners; Metagross is an example that can also provide offensive pressure, while Refresh Milotic can provide support by inflicting status ailments. Toxic Spikes and Spikes setters like Dragalge and Roserade have nice synergy with Gardevoir, as it can have an easier time wallbreaking with those entry hazards wearing the opposing team down. Setup sweepers such as Zygarde-10% appreciate Gardevoir's ability to wallbreak so they have an easier time cleaning the opposing team.

Moves Hyper Beam is Mega Gardevoir's main offensive tool, able to obliterate almost anything it touches super effectively in a single shot, Mega Altaria, Kommo-o, and Mega Sableye, as well as knock out many frailer neutrally effective threats, such as offense Landorus-T, Porygon-Z, and Vivillon. The same scenario with Tapu Lele plays out against Calm Mind Tapu Fini, although since Tapu Fini cannot learn Psyshock of its own, it is safe to boost alongside Tapu Fini, at which point you can either knock it out with Hyper Voice into Hyper Beam after you both reach +6 Special Attack and Special Defense, or Psyshock after getting to +2 to 2HKO. Mega Gyarados is a special case; while it may seem like a safer option to use Will-O-Wisp, this is actually not the optimal play, as this will risk a miss. Simply use Hyper Voice twice, or Psyshock turn 1 and Hyper Beam after; this covers every single play a standard Mega Gyarados can make, as Hyper Beam OHKOes if they Mega Evolve. Team Options Mega Gardevoir is susceptible to Steel-, Poison-, and Fire-type Pokemon, making Ground-types generally great options for teammates. Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Zygarde-C, Krookodile, Garchomp, and Excadrill, given the right individual sets, can all beat several prominent threats to Mega Gardevoir, such as Heatran, Magearna, Magnezone, and Mega Metagross. For most of these, Groundium Z should be run, although Pokemon like Landorus-T and Garchomp have a little leg room and can afford to run Choice items. Besides Ground-types, Fire-types with positive matchups against special attackers and other Fire-types work well with Mega Gardevoir. In particular, specially defensive Mega Charizard X can provide the backbone necessary to handle faster threats such as most Steel-types, Mega Charizard Y, Gunk Shot Greninja, Naganadel, Meloetta, and faster physical threats that can obliterate Mega Gardevoir, such as Mega Lopunny and Mega Pinsir. Heatran is also notable, as it can effectively check Mega Charizard X, Togekiss, and Mega Aggron. In return, Mega Gardevoir patches up the weaknesses these Pokemon share with bulky special attackers, like Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele, Primarina, and Mega Venusaur.

Trick Room allows Mega Gardevoir to take an effective countermeasure against faster teams, which it would easily be taken down against. Bulk investment and Mega Gardevoir's general offensive power aid its ability to set up Trick Room against a considerable portion of the metagame. Hyper Voice nets sizable damage on many neutral foes despite the lack of much investment due to Mega Gardevoir's high Special Attack and a boost from Pixilate. It is the most effective option for Mega Gardevoir to deal with Dragon-types like Mega Salamence. Psychic hits a number of important foes that are resistant to Pixilate-boosted Hyper Voice, such as Mega Charizard Y, Amoonguss, and Nihilego for high damage. Psyshock is an alternative to OHKO the latter two and generally hit specially defensive foes like Snorlax harder at a cost of slightly less power. Mega Gardevoir's role as a Trick Room setter, access to a spread attack, and frailty entice attacks from foes often. Protect therefore makes a good option to temporarily guard it from offensive pressure. The given EV spread ensures that Mega Gardevoir survives two Earthquakes from Jolly Landorus-T and a Sludge Bomb from Mega Gengar. 36 Special Attack EVs allow Mega Gardevoir to benefit the most from its Special Attack-boosting nature. An alternative Relaxed nature works if Mega Gardevoir will have to survive Double-Edge from Mega Salamence and avoid the 2HKO from Adamant Landorus-T's Earthquake. 36 Speed EVs can be run with a Modest or Bold nature so that Mega Gardevoir can outspeed everything up to Jolly Choice Scarf Landorus-T with Tailwind support. Various slow physical attackers can work with Mega Gardevoir to take down each other's checks while running rampant when Trick Room is active. Incineroar is a notable partner for easing Mega Gardevoir's attempt to set up Trick Room by weakening foes with Intimidate and using Fake Out. Other slow teammates like Snorlax, Tyranitar, and Araquanid can take advantage of Trick Room. All of them can run viable countermeasures to deal with Steel-types and specially defensive foes. Landorus-T is a viable teammate that also appreciates Trick Room due to its middling Speed. It offensively checks some of Mega Gardevoir's biggest checks like Mega Metagross, Aegislash, and Heatran. Tailwind is also a viable option to support Mega Gardevoir. Offensive teams often lack a proper way to deal with Gardevoir and therefore the Speed boost from Tailwind makes it notoriously difficult to deal with. Zapdos is a viable setter due to its ability to threaten Celesteela and keep Calm Mind Tapu Fini in check, while Kartana is a good teammate thanks to it threatening Steel-types with Sacred Sword and specially defensive foes.

Moves Hyper Voice is Mega Gardevoir's strongest possible STAB move thanks to Pixilate's boost, OHKOing most Dark-, Dragon-, and Fighting-type Pokemon such as Mega Sableye, Kyurem-B, and Mega Gallade. Psyshock is the second STAB option, hitting Poison-types like Mega Venusaur, Crobat, and Toxapex as well as other Pokemon that resist Hyper Voice such as Fire-types. Psyshock also helps against specially defensive threats like Mantine. Focus Blast hits Steel-types that resist both of Gardevoir's STAB moves like Heatran, Ferrothorn, and Magnezone and threatens Normal-types like Porygon2. Will-O-Wisp is a great utility move used to cripple physical attackers like Bisharp, Mimikyu, Alolan Muk, and Mega Scizor on the switch. Taunt can be used to prevent foes like Chansey, Klefki, and Jirachi from setting up entry hazards or inflicting status and keeps the likes of Mega Charizard X and Gyarados from setting up. Encore can be used to surprise opponents and lock threats like Sucker Punch Bisharp, Light Screen + Reflect Klefki, and Substitute Suicune as well as Pokemon like Chansey and Heatran into status moves and hazards. Set Details Gardevoirite is needed to grant Gardevoir higher Special Attack and Speed as well as Pixilate to boost Hyper Voice and give it Fairy-type STAB. A Timid nature and maximum Speed EVs allow Mega Gardevoir to outpace Pokemon like Life Orb Kyurem-B and Nidoking. Thanks to Hyper Voice's few drawbacks, Mega Gardevoir can act as an incredible revenge killer. Mega Gardevoir can use Will-O-Wisp to cripple physically offensive threats such as Alolan Muk and Bisharp as they switch in. Encore should be used to lock Pokemon like Chansey and Heatran into Stealth Rock or Toxic, and it can also be used to threaten things like Sucker Punch Bisharp. Taunt prevents foes like Zapdos and Mantine from firing off status moves and Heatran and Chansey from setting up entry hazards. Even though Mega Gardevoir's Pixilate lets it perform better as a wallbreaker, Trace can be used prior to Mega Evolving to counter weather-dependent threats like Mega Swampert, Excadrill, and Kingdra. The main drawback to not Mega Evolving immediately is that without Pixilate, Hyper Voice is practically worthless, so be sure to know when it is necessary to Mega Evolve and when to utilize Trace. Mega Gardevoir should be cautious when switching into Pokemon that carry status moves that cripple it like Zapdos, Toxapex, and Porygon2, as well as into physical attackers like Choice Scarf Excadrill, Terrakion, and Scolipede; that being said, it can be switched into weak special attacks, but it must be careful, as it doesn't run any reliable recovery. Team Options Choice Scarf Victini is a necessity, as it can outpace other Choice Scarf threats that Mega Gardevoir struggles against such as Excadrill, Kyurem-B, and Tapu Bulu. Stealth Rock users such as Deoxys-S, Mew, and Jirachi help Mega Gardevoir's role in wallbreaking by providing chip damage every time an opposing Pokemon enters the field. Deoxys-S can also set up dual screens, Jirachi provides an immunity to Poison-type attacks, and Mew's Genesis Supernova can set up Psychic Terrain to boost the damage output of Gardevoir's Psychic-type attacks. Meloetta is a great partner, as it is immune to Ghost-type attacks from threats like Gengar, Alolan Marowak, and Mimikyu. An entry hazard remover like Latios, Mew, or Starmie helps prevent Mega Gardevoir from taking unnecessary damage upon entry. Slowbro's amazing physical bulk helps it check common threats to Mega Gardevoir such as Mega Lopunny, Terrakion, and Landorus-T, and its Thunder Wave cripples opposing Pokemon and allows Mega Gardevoir to successfully outspeed and KO them. Alakazam can be used to take out boosted physical attackers like Mega Charizard X and Mega Sharpedo with Counter.

Psyshock allows Mega Gardevoir to hit some special walls decently hard and lets it check some Poison-types, especially Mega Venusaur. Focus Blast is a valuable coverage move that allows Mega Gardevoir to hit Steel-types like Heatran and Excadrill. Will-O-Wisp can cripple physical attackers like Mega Scizor and Excadrill and slightly chip at foes. It notably cripples Alolan Muk, which is a huge threat to Mega Gardevoir and Fairy in general. Alternatively, Taunt allows Mega Gardevoir to shut down some walls and work as a decent stallbreaker. Encore is also an option, as it gives Gardevoir more stallbreaking potential, but it is generally less useful overall. Set Details Maximum Special Attack investment allows Mega Gardevoir to hit as hard as possible. Maximum Speed with a Timid nature enables Mega Gardevoir to make use of its good Speed tier and outspeed most walls along with key threats like Nidoking and Xurkitree. Trace allows Gardevoir to sometimes inherit useful abilities like Intimidate and Sand Rush before Mega Evolving and possibly revenge kill weather sweepers like Excadrill and Mega Swampert. However, be wary, as not Mega Evolving leaves Gardevoir without a Fairy-type STAB attack. Pixilate allows Mega Gardevoir to hit very hard with Hyper Voice. Gardevoirite is needed to enable Gardevoir to Mega Evolve. Usage Tips Mega Gardevoir should be used as an early-game wallbreaker, weakening the opposing team for teammates to clean up later. Hyper Voice should be used most of the time, for it has the most power and has decent coverage. Due to this, it is a very spammable move as well. On the other hand, use the appropriate move when the situation calls for it, like using Focus Blast to KO Heatran or Will-O-Wisp when a physical attacker switches in. Taunt or Encore can be used to allow Mega Gardevoir to wear down walls and make them easier to KO later on. In addition, they both give Mega Gardevoir some stallbreaking potential, enabling it to beat down some walls like Chansey. Gardevoir should also Mega Evolve as soon as possible in most situations to gain the stat boosts and Pixilate. Sometimes, though, if the opponent has a weather sweeper like Excadrill, it may be useful to postpone Mega Evolving to Trace useful abilities and revenge kill weather sweepers. However, this comes with the cost of leaving Hyper Voice a weak Normal-type attack. Gardevoir is not very bulky, especially physically, so bringing it in with double switches or U-turn or Volt Switch support is a good idea. Mega Gardevoir should also be played carefully against Poison teams, especially due to the inability to use Mega Diancie, because Gardevoir may be needed to break through Pokemon like Toxapex and Mega Venusaur. Avoid switching Mega Gardevoir into Pokemon that commonly carry status moves, as most status cripples it heavily. Klefki is an especially great partner thanks to its ability to set up Spikes to aid Mega Gardevoir's wallbreaking, improve Gardevoir's survivability with dual screens, switch into certain Poison-type threats, paralyze threats with Thunder Wave, and check most physical setup sweepers like Mega Scizor with Foul Play. Clefable and Togekiss can hold Babiri Berry and utilize Fire-type coverage to check Steel-types, especially Mega Scizor. Clefable can also set up Stealth Rock, which slowly chips at foes. Tapu Bulu is a strong physical attacker that can break down many special walls that Mega Gardevoir can't touch, like Chansey and Mantine. Grassy Terrain support is also good, since it provides Gardevoir with recovery. Moves Hyper Voice is Mega Gardevoir's main STAB attack, which, when boosted by Pixilate, deals heavy damage to both of the opposing Pokemon. Psychic is Gardevoir's other STAB attack, which can hit the Poison- and Fire-types that resist Hyper Voice, such as Amoonguss and Mega Charizard Y. Psyshock is also an option that allows Gardevoir to hit Calm Mind Tapu Fini and Zapdos harder, at the cost of slightly lower Base Power. Trick Room is the speed control on this set and can be set up with relative ease at least once during the match due to Mega Gardevoir's good Special Defense. Protect is obligatory on most Pokemon in Doubles, but it helps Gardevoir in particular since it is prone to being double targeted due to being a Trick Room setter and is quite frail physically. Set Details The bulk EVs let Mega Gardevoir take an Iron Head from -1 Mega Metagross or Overheat from Mega Charizard Y in Sun. The remaining EVs are put into Special Attack to boost Gardevoir's damage output when in Trick Room. A Quiet nature with 0 Speed IVs minimizes Gardevoir's Speed to let it move as early as possible when Trick Room has been set while giving Gardevoir a Special Attack boost. It is also an option to leave Gardevoir's Speed IVs at 31 and use a Modest nature if it's paired with a Tailwind user, since it can then outspeed base 130 Pokemon under Tailwind while also outspeeding uninvested Tapu Fini. Trace is the best ability before Mega Evolving because Gardevoir can potentially copy some useful abilities such as Intimidate and Download. Telepathy can also be useful if you have a spread move user such as Landorus-T with Earthquake. Usage Tips Mega Gardevoir is usually faster than most other Trick Room setters or attackers, so always consider whether Trick Room is necessary or if you would be better off without it. For example, you may not want to set up Trick Room against opposing Trick Room teams, at risk of helping them more than yourself. Many of Gardevoir's counters are slower than it, so not setting Trick Room allows your faster check to pressure them with greater ease. Gardevoir is good at setting up Trick Room from the lead position or very early in the game and punching holes in the opposing team with Hyper Voice before the opponent can maneuver into a better position to stop Trick Room being set. It is also good at finishing off weakened teams once you have removed any opposing Steel-types; however, it struggles to switch into attacks due to its low Defense, so make sure to bring it in after sacking a teammate or through a slow U-turn. Intimidate support can increase your chance of setting up Trick Room drastically, so switch in your Intimidate user when you plan to set up Trick Room. Using Protect on the first turn can sometimes be a good idea, since Gardevoir can be double targeted in an attempt to stop Trick Room going up. This allows Gardevoir's partner to get a free hit off on the opposing team. Taunt users can stop Gardevoir from setting up Trick Room while also stopping Gardevoir from protecting itself from attacks. However, Gardevoir has the option of attacking on a predicted Taunt, as its STAB attacks deal a lot of damage to common Taunt users such as Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele. Team Options Intimidate support is very important to help Mega Gardevoir survive some of the stronger physical attacks in Doubles, such as Landorus-T's Tectonic Rage. This makes Incineroar, Scrafty and Landorus-T good partners. Incineroar and Scrafty also provide Fake Out to further aid Gardevoir in setting up Trick Room, and their low Speed allow them to perform well once Trick Room is up. They also help beat Ghost- and Steel-types that threaten Gardevoir like Aegislash and Kartana. Landorus-T has U-turn to help bring Gardevoir in safely later on in the game while also being able to cycle Intimidate very well and get multiple Attack drops on the opposing Pokemon. Partners that beat Steel- and Fire-types are very useful to allow Gardevoir to use Hyper Voice with more freedom, so Volcanion and Zygarde make nice partners. Since Amoonguss is a huge threat for Trick Room teams, ways to stop it from putting Gardevoir to sleep once Trick Room is set up are a necessity. Tapu Fini is good for this, as it sets up Misty Terrain to block Spore on grounded Pokemon, allowing Gardevoir to hit Amoonguss with a Psychic. Tapu Fini also beats Fire-types, which resist Gardevoir's Hyper Voice. An Amoonguss of your own can switch into Spore from opposing Amoonguss and start putting the opposing team to sleep once Trick Room is set up. It can also provide redirection support with Rage Powder to guard Gardevoir from potential super effective hits. Since Gardevoir is best used on a semi-Trick Room team, having a faster Pokemon like Genesect or Tapu Koko are useful to generate momentum when Trick Room is not set.

Moves Calm Mind boosts Gardevoir's Special Attack and Special Defense stats, allowing it to tear through slower teams while becoming quite specially bulky. Set Details Maximum Special Attack investment takes full advantage of Gardevoir's high base Special Attack. Maximum Speed in tandem with a Timid nature allows Gardevoir to outpace everything up to opposing base 80 Speed Pokemon, which it Speed ties with. Leftovers gives Gardevoir passive recovery, which is helpful when using Substitute. Life Orb gives Gardevoir much more firepower; however, it gets worn down quite quickly with Substitute and recoil. Usage Tips Calm Mind Gardevoir performs best against slower teams that rely on defensive prowess to stall out foes. Once it has properly set up, very few things can prevent it from sweeping teams. Against offensive teams, however, Gardevoir can often struggle. It's best not to set up against teams that have multiple ways to revenge kill it, as getting decent damage off proves more valuable in the end. Trace is a fantastic ability and one that Gardevoir should take advantage of. It truly shines against Pokemon such Flash Fire Chandelure, Crawdaunt, Sableye, Alomomola, and unboosted Feraligatr, as their abilities drastically improve the way Gardevoir performs. Team Options Fire- and Dark-types, such as Entei, Mega Absol, Chandelure, Krookodile, and Mega Houndoom, break down a fair number of Gardevoir's checks, especially Aggron and Doublade, and appreciate its ability to defeat bulky Water-types. Slow Volt Switch or U-turn support from Pokemon such as Forretress and Gligar allows Gardevoir to switch in safely, as its low defenses can often make this difficult. These two Pokemon also provide entry hazard support, which helps in breaking down foes. Natural wallbreakers, such as Nidoqueen, Choice Band Entei, Crawdaunt, and Swords Dance Lucario, are able to defeat bulkier walls that can stomach a +1 attack from Gardevoir. Steel-types and Dragon-types such as Doublade, Cobalion, Empoleon, and Hydreigon form a Dragon / Steel / Fairy core with Gardevoir, creating fantastic synergy. Physical sweepers, such as Swords Dance Lucario, Swords Dance Toxicroak, and Dragon Dance Gyarados, appreciate Gardevoir's ability to demolish most physical walls. Sticky Web support allows Gardevoir to remedy its mediocre Speed tier to outpace most of the metagame, which is especially helpful if it wants to sweep using Calm Mind.

Moves Moonblast is a solid STAB attack, easily defeating Dark-types such as Mega Absol and Krookodile. Psychic is preferred over Psyshock, since the higher Base Power is generally more useful, as Choice Scarf Gardevoir lacks the pure power to break past Blissey and Florges. Healing Wish sacrifices Gardevoir, removing status from and healing the next teammate that switches in. This is especially useful for sweepers such as Mega Absol, Mega Houndoom, Gyarados, and Lucario, as all of them are crippled by status and some are weak to entry hazards. Memento makes Gardevoir faint while harshly lowering the foe's attacking stats. Similarly to Healing Wish, this paves the way for setup sweepers, as they essentially get a free turn. Set Details Maximum investment in Special Attack gives Gardevoir as much offensive prowess as possible. A Timid nature with maximum Speed investment allows Gardevoir to outpace most of the unboosted metagame and Speed tie with Choice Scarf Chandelure or base 80 Speed Pokemon if its Choice Scarf is removed. A Choice Scarf boosts its mediocre Speed tier and allows it to revenge kill Krookodile, Mega Houndoom, and Mega Swampert in the rain. However, it misses out on outspeeding Mega Beedrill and Mega Sceptile. Trace copies the foe's ability, which is extremely helpful against the likes of Chandelure and Mega Swampert. Usage Tips Choice Scarf Gardevoir is not meant to break down bulky walls. It best serves as a revenge killer against offensive teams and can heavily support teammates thanks to its access to Memento, Trick, and Healing Wish. Due to Gardevoir's relative frailty, be wary of sending it out against an opposing Pokemon at full health or directly in to attacks, as strong hits can KO it quite easily. Memento and Healing Wish provide huge opportunities for teammates to sweep, but the moves need to be used at the correct time to have their full effect. Gardevoir's access to Trace is incredible against foes such as Chandelure, Alomomola, and Crawdaunt, so take advantage of this whenever possible. Team Options Wallbreakers such as Choice Band Krookodile, Swords Dance Feraligatr, Hydreigon, and Mamoswine excel at breaking down bulkier walls that Gardevoir lacks the power to easily defeat. Fire- and Dark-types such as Entei, Infernape, Mega Houndoom, and Mega Absol have the capability to defeat a large majority of Gardevoir's checks, especially Doublade and Mega Aggron. Steel-types and Dragon-types such as Doublade, Empoleon, Cobalion, and Hydreigon form a Dragon / Fairy / Steel core with Gardevoir, creating fantastic synergy. Slow Volt Switch or U-turn support from Pokemon such as Rotom-C, Forretress, and Gligar allows Gardevoir to switch in safely, as its frailty can make it difficult to switch directly into attacks. Pursuit support from Krookodile or Mega Absol quickly wears down a huge portion of Gardevoir's checks and counters, allowing it to break through them later on.

Maximum Speed investment in tandem with a Timid nature allows Gardevoir to Speed tie with base 80 Speed Pokemon, such as Chandelure and Mamoswine, while outspeeding anything lower. Trace allows Gardevoir to copy the foe's ability, potentially putting itself in a favorable position. For example, it can steal Sheer Force from Nidoqueen and Feraligatr, Regenerator from Alomomola, Flash Fire from Chandelure, and Swift Swim from Mega Swampert, the last allowing it to be one of the few Pokemon to outspeed Mega Swampert while under the rain. Usage Tips Gardevoir is best switched in on a resisted attack or on a Pokemon that is Choice locked, such as Flash Fire Chandelure locked in to Fire Blast. Choice Specs Gardevoir requires decent prediction to be able to use, as both of its STAB attacks are easily exploited by the likes of Steel- and Dark-type Pokemon. If the opponent has a remaining Pokemon that can easily take advantage of this aspect, such as Krookodile or Doublade, be wary of locking Gardevoir into a move. If you expect the opponent to switch in a bulky wall, such as Suicune, Cresselia, Blissey, or Empoleon, using Trick to cripple them for the remainder of the match helps immensely. This also allows Gardevoir to switch its moves, preventing it from being fodder to a bad matchup. If the opposing Pokemon has a useful ability, such as Sheer Force, Regenerator, or Adaptability, and Gardevoir is able to defeat the foe one-on-one, don't hesitate to send it in against it. Team Options Volt Switch and U-turn users, such as Rotom-C, Forretress, and Gligar, help Gardevoir switch in safely. Fire-type Pokemon, such as Mega Houndoom, which appreciates Gardevoir's ability to OHKO Hydreigon, obliterate Steel-type Pokemon which give it trouble. Entei's natural wallbreaking capabilities help break down sturdier walls, and in return, Gardevoir defeats bulky Water-types, while Infernape's Speed tier lets it outpace the likes of Krookodile and Entei. Physical sponges, such as Gyarados, which shares good type synergy with Gardevoir, and Doublade, which sets up on a majority of Gardevoir's checks, are able to switch in to most physical attacks aimed at Gardevoir. Steel-types and Dragon-types, such as Doublade, Cobalion, Empoleon, and Mega Sceptile, are able to form a Dragon / Steel / Fairy core, which has fantastic synergy. Physical sweepers, such as Swords Dance Toxicroak, Dragon Dance Gyarados, and Swords Dance Lucario, complement Gardevoir's naturally high Special Attack stat and can easily defeat most special walls. Sticky Web support prevents its middling Speed tier from being an issue against offensive teams.

Moves Hyper Voice is Mega Gardevoir's main STAB attack, reaching 175.5 Base Power with the boosts from Pixilate and STAB. With the great coverage that Fairy-type attacks have, many walls will struggle to withstand it. Psyshock is a secondary STAB attack that hits Poison-types very hard, pairing well with Hyper Voice's coverage. Psyshock is used instead of Psychic for hitting Chansey and Mollux on their weaker Defense stat. Focus Blast hits Steel-types that resist both of Mega Gardevoir's STAB attacks, hitting Heatran and Ferrothorn hard and hitting Scizor and Metagross harder than Mega Gardevoir's other attacks. Mega Gardevoir's support move helps it combat threats that it would struggle against otherwise. Will-O-Wisp allows Mega Gardevoir to cripple physical attackers that would otherwise threaten it, including Mega Metagross and Kitsunoh. Taunt is another option to prevent foes from healing or using status moves, letting Gardevoir handle Pokemon such as Pyroak more easily. With Calm Mind, Mega Gardevoir can set up against passive Pokemon, allowing her to breeze through walls. Set Details Trace is useful for copying several useful abilities prior to Mega Evolving. Magnet Pull can be copied to trap Magnezone, Flash Fire grants an immunity to Heatran's Lava Plume, and Swift Swim lets Gardevoir revenge kill rain sweepers such as Kingdra. Maximum Special Attack with a Modest nature gives Mega Gardevoir full wallbreaking potential, and maximum Speed lets it outspeed passive walls and slower offensive Pokemon. A Timid nature can be used to outspeed or Speed tie with opposing base 100 Speed Pokemon, giving Mega Gardevoir more utility against offensive teams. Usage Tips Hyper Voice is a very powerful attack with no drawbacks, hitting a multitude of Pokemon extremely hard. Very few Pokemon can comfortably sponge it, such as Mollux and Mega Metagross. If the opponent has a Mollux or Plasmanta, it would be wise to scout for their sets first. If they are slow, defensive builds, Mega Gardevoir can easily combat them with Psyshock; if they are fast and offensive, they can be dangerous for Mega Gardevoir to face. Focus Blast and Will-O-Wisp are useful for predicting Mega Scizor or Mega Metagross switching in, as Gardevoir will struggle against them otherwise. Team Options Mega Gardevoir is excellent at breaking down walls, especially physical ones. Talonflame, Cawmodore, and other physical attackers appreciate the removal of these threats. Special walls are also pressured by Mega Gardevoir's presence. Special attackers such as Stratagem love the pressure that Mega Gardevoir puts on special walls. Gardevoir's Steel weakness is easily handed by Heatran, Cyclohm, and Pyroak, making them great partners. Other Steel-types make for good defensive partners to absorb the Poison-type moves aimed at Gardevoir. Speed control is a great asset for Mega Gardevoir. Fidgit with Tailwind, Necturna with Sticky Web, or Thunder Wave from Thundurus and Klefki is essential if Mega Gardevoir wants to beat faster threats. Pursuit trappers are great for removing Kitsunoh and Mega Metagross. In a similar fashion, Magnezone can trap Steel-types such as Scizor, letting Mega Gardevoir attack much more easily. Healing Wish users such as Tomohawk and Latias make for good partners as well, letting Mega Gardevoir have a second chance at tearing apart the opponent's team.

Moves Fairy- and Psychic-type attacks have great neutral coverage together due to Psychic hitting the Poison- and Fire-types that resist Fairy while your choice of Fairy-type move hits Dark-types, which are immune to Psychic, super effectively. Dazzling Gleam is recommended as Gardevoir's Fairy-type STAB move as it hits Dragon-types on the switch regardless of which side of the field gets switched out, 2HKOing the common double dragons. This makes it more of a support move due to it easing prediction for Gardevoir immensely. However, Moonblast is also an option, as it is far more spammable than Dazzling Gleam due to its higher Base Power, while the high chance to lower its target's Special Attack is also a factor because it helps out teammates with low Special Defense stats. Psychic is chosen over Psyshock due to the physically defensive nature of the metagame. Will-O-Wisp is a great supportive option, as it gives Gardevoir a better way of dealing with Dragon-types when they are already in. Additionally, the utility of burning physical attackers is huge. Trick Room is a nice option to counter Trick Room teams if your team is particularly weak to them, or to set it up for teams that utilize it. On the other hand, Taunt can be used on fast teams that enjoy its ability to block the use of Rage Powder, Spore, Dark Void, Thunder Wave, and Swagger, although you must remember that it doesn't block Pachirisu's Nuzzle. Protect can be used over either of these moves, or it can be used over Will-O-Wisp if the team desperately needs either Trick Room or Taunt support. Set Details The listed EV spread allows Gardevoir to always survive Choice Band Talonflame's Brave Bird and fully invested Aegislash's Shadow Ball or Flash Cannon from full health, OHKOing 4 HP variants of the former after the recoil from Brave Bird 91% of the time. Additionally, it allows Gardevoir to always survive Mega Kangaskhan's Return from full health if it is holding a Sitrus Berry. Trace is usually preferred due to its great supportive utility, although Telepathy can be used if your team utilizes Earthquake. Sitrus Berry is the recommended item, as it allows Gardevoir to survive Mega Kangaskhan's Return, although Safety Goggles is also an option if you want to block Amoonguss's Spore and Rage Powder to cripple physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp or Taunt opposing supporters. Usage Tips This set focuses less on trying to OHKO things with Moonblast and more on supporting the team and checking Dragon-types defensively, although it is still a nice perk if you do choose to run Moonblast. Burn physically attacking non-Fire-types whenever possible, and Taunt particularly disruptive Pokemon like Amoonguss, Smeargle, and Pachirisu as quickly as you can. Finally, aim to bring Gardevoir in on Dragon-type attacks if you can due to how well Gardevoir checks them. Team Options Pokemon which benefit from Will-O-Wisp support, such as Talonflame and Mega Charizard Y, are good teammates for Gardevoir due to its ability to cripple physical attackers like Garchomp, as well as weaken Tyranitar's Rock Slides. Fighting-, Ghost-, and Dark-types have very good synergy with Gardevoir, making Pokemon such as Tyranitar, Lucario, Aegislash, and Scrafty good teammates. Pokemon that benefit from Trick Room or its reversal enjoy Gardevoir's presence, making Ferrothorn, Mawile, Garchomp, and Salamence good teammates. Speaking of Garchomp and Salamence, Dragon-types in general have very good synergy with Gardevoir due to how Dragon- and Fairy-types cover a lot of each other's weaknesses. Additionally, Pokemon that benefit from Dragon-types being eliminated, such as bulky Rotom-A and Talonflame, are good teammates. Finally, if Gardevoir has Telepathy, users of Earthquake like Garchomp are great teammates for obvious reasons.

Moves Moonblast is the main STAB move that Gardevoir will be spamming, with a high Base Power, great typing, and a nasty 30% chance to lower its target's Special Attack stat. Gardevoir doesn't usually use its other attacks because Moonblast is so good, but it has a few other moves it can run to increase its overall utility and coverage. Psychic fixes its coverage versus Fire- and Poison-types, hitting the former neutrally and the latter super effectively. This is used over Psyshock due to a combination of Gardevoir needing all the power it can get and the relatively physically defensive nature of the metagame. Dazzling Gleam is nice to take out weakened opponents, as it gets chip damage on the partner of the Pokemon that is being KOed, and it is always nice to have when there are two weakened Pokemon on the field that are in range of being KOed. Additionally, Dazzling Gleam is great for breaking the Focus Sashes of Pokemon like Smeargle, and it OHKOes double dragons 100% of the time after a little prior damage when Gardevoir holds a Choice Scarf, while guaranteeing it without any prior damage with the boost from Choice Specs with the given EV spread. The last moveslot is entirely team-reliant: Thunderbolt hits Talonflame and Mega Charizard Y harder than Gardevoir's other options, although you must be cautious of the former's Brave Bird, while Shadow Ball allows Gardevoir to get around Aegislash and opposing Gardevoir effectively, although an Iron Head or Flash Cannon from the former is going to hurt a lot. Set Details There are lots of possible EV spreads that Gardevoir can run, and the ones listed here are only a small number of the viable ones. The EVs that are on the main set allow Gardevoir to survive a Bullet Punch from Mega Lucario when at full health while outpacing all Mega Tyranitar variants either before or after a boost, depending on its item. If Gardevoir is holding a Choice Scarf, a spread of 140 Def / 140 SpA / 228 Spe can be used to outpace Noivern while always OHKOing Garchomp with Moonblast; a more powerful version of this spread (28 Def / 252 SpA / 228 Spe) can be used if you feel that bulk is not an issue, although Talonflame's Brave Bird will score a guaranteed OHKO. Gardevoir can run 84 Def / 252 SpA / 172 Spe with a Timid nature to outpace Adamant Gyarados before or after a Dragon Dance, depending on its item, although Talonflame will once again guarantee an OHKO with Brave Bird while Garchomp has a 12% chance to survive Moonblast from full health. When running Choice Scarf, a spread of 12 HP / 92 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 148 Spe allows Gardevoir to outpace max Speed base 110s while having a 50% chance of surviving Adamant Life Orb Talonflame's Brave Bird from full health. As for Gardevoir's ability, Telepathy should be used if you are going to be using Gardevoir in a core with a user of Earthquake, Surf, or Discharge, but Trace should always be used otherwise due to its nifty, albeit situational, utility in giving Gardevoir the chance to copy powerful abilities like Parental Bond or the rare Competitive. Usage Tips If possible, avoid switching Gardevoir in on anything aside from resisted attacks and weak or middling neutral special attacks. Use Gardevoir to threaten and KO Dragon- and Dark-types; mostly spam Moonblast unless the situation demands otherwise or it will give you an advantage in the long term to do something else. Team Options Pokemon with Intimidate are great, as they allow Gardevoir to take physical hits better, making Salamence and Scrafty good partners. Anything that is capable of beating Steel- or Fire-types such the aforementioned duo and Krookodile makes Gardevoir's life a little easier. Powerful attackers like Mega Charizard Y help Gardevoir break down bulky opponents more effectively due to its generally middling power. Ghost-, Fighting-, and Dark-types such as Aegislash, Scrafty, Lucario, and Tyranitar have good natural synergy with Gardevoir, as they break down the things that Gardevoir can't, while it beats the Pokemon that they struggle to beat with its STAB attacks. Mawile is a great teammate, as it allows you to bring in a Fairy-type when the matchup is out of Gardevoir's favor. Finally, if Gardevoir has Telepathy, users of attacks like Earthquake, such as Garchomp, are good partners to take advantage of it.

Psychic helps with Poison- and Fire-types like Mega Venusaur, Nidoking, and Mega Charizard Y. Focus Blast targets Steel-types like Excadrill, Magnezone, Empoleon, and Skarmory. Healing Wish is a nice utility move that brings a teammate like Mega Diancie or Clefable back to full health. Trick can be used to cripple walls like Chansey and Zapdos. Choice Scarf allows Gardevoir to outspeed Pokemon like Thundurus and Nidoking. Trace has many uses, such as checking weather sweepers like Excadrill and Mega Swampert and gaining immunities from Pokemon like Heatran. All of Gardevoir's teammates appreciate it to revenge kill threats like Choice Scarf Magnezone and Nidoking and provide Healing Wish support. Mega Diancie can set Stealth Rock to help Gardevoir pick up KOs and can get rid of Bug-, Fire-, and Flying-types like Volcarona, Mega Charizard Y, Tornadus-T, and Zapdos. Clefable is an alternative Stealth Rock setter that can use Babiri Berry + Fire Blast to survive a hit from and take out Choice Scarf Excadrill and Mega Scizor. It also has useful utility moves like Knock Off and Calm Mind. Togekiss can also use Babiri Berry + Fire Blast to take out the aforementioned Steel-types and break through walls like Porygon2 with Nasty Plot. Azumarill can revenge kill faster Pokemon like Choice Scarf Excadrill and +1 Volcarona, sweep through Ground and Fire teams with Aqua Jet + Belly Drum, and muscle past specially defensive walls like Chansey that Gardevoir struggles to break through. It also provides Knock Off support to get rid of items like Eviolite from Pokemon like Porygon2 and Chansey. Klefki makes for a great support teammate because of its access to dual screens, Spikes, Thunder Wave, and Foul Play, and its part-Steel typing provides a neutrality to Steel and an immunity to Poison. Whimsicott's Grass typing allows it to come in on and force out Landorus and certain Water-types like Mega Swampert and Rotom-W that Gardevoir cannot immediately take out. It also has many support moves like U-turn to give Gardevoir opportunities to come in, Stun Spore to slow down faster threats like Choice Scarf Excadrill, and Knock Off. Sylveon is a powerful wallbreaker that can muscle past walls like Zapdos and Gastrodon that Gardevoir can't get past easily.

Mega Gardevoir's Pixilate-boosted Hyper Voice poses a massive threat to Dark and Dragon teams and deals notable damage to special walls such as Zapdos and Gastrodon. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers like Mamoswine and wears down opposing walls such as Empoleon. Trace lets Gardevoir copy Gyarados's Intimidate and Tornadus-T's Regenerator prior to Mega Evolving. 16 Speed EVs with a Timid nature allow Mega Gardevoir to outpace base 70 Speed foes like Bisharp and Breloom. All of Mega Gardevoir's teammates, Jirachi and Victini in particular, appreciate it providing Wish support and taking care of troublesome Dark-types like Weavile and Mega Sharpedo. Jirachi is a specially defensive pivot that can set Stealth Rock and cripple foes with Toxic or Thunder Wave. Choice Scarf Victini is a phenomenal revenge killer that provides pivot support and checks Steel-types outside of Heatran. Choice Band variants are particularly useful for overwhelming special walls like Chansey and Zapdos. Thanks to its part-Dragon typing and high Special Attack and Speed, Choice Specs Latios can check most slower attackers, Mega Venusaur, and Fire-types like Mega Charizard Y and Victini. Choice Scarf Latias is a Ground-immune Defogger that can also provide Healing Wish support. Colbur Berry users like Slowbro and Celebi act as secondary countermeasures to Mega Sharpedo and Mega Gyarados. Slowbro can also tank physical attacks and take care of Fire-types like Darmanitan, Choice Scarf Victini, and Heatran. Celebi can alternatively run a Nasty Plot set to demolish Water and Ground teams with its combination of Giga Drain and Earth Power. With its BoltBeam coverage and unrivaled Speed tier, Deoxys-S can threaten Flying-types with high Special Defense like Zapdos, Gliscor, and Mega Charizard Y. Calm Mind Reuniclus and stallbreaker Mew are options to help ease matchups against Steel and Normal teams and wear down bulky foes like Gastrodon.

Mega Gardevoir functions as a bulky special attacker and potential wincon with high powered Pixilate-boosted spread moves. One of its biggest strengths is its flexible Speed tier, as base 100 Speed allows it to threaten large portions of the metagame while enabling slower variants to intentionally underspeed common threats with middline Speed. This set can be tailored in two directions: Calm Mind, which turns Mega Gardevoir's already powerful Hyper Voice into oppressive sweeping pressure, or Trick Room, which flips matchups by enabling Mega Gardevoir and its partners to outpace faster offensive teams. Mega Gardevoir's versatility stems from its ability to threaten immediate damage, provide speed control, or function as a setup sweeper, depending on the team's needs. Pixilate-boosted Hyper Voice provides extremely strong spread damage, letting Mega Gardevoir snowball field advantage or clean up weakened teams. Psyshock provides a single-target STAB option and is one of the main ways that Mega Gardevoir differentiates itself from Sylveon. It allows Mega Gardevoir to reliably beat Assault Vest Volcanion and Poison-types like Amoonguss and Gengar. Calm Mind turns Mega Gardevoir into a wincon. Once it finds a free turn to boost, its high Special Attack and decent bulk make it difficult to remove, and boosted Hyper Voice quickly overwhelms opposing teams. Trick Room is an alternative option for teams wanting reliable speed control. Mega Gardevoir is a great Trick Room user thanks to its good bulk and the ability to immediately threaten foes after setting it up. Protect provides standard utility to avoid double targets, stalls out field conditions like Tailwind and Trick Room, and allows partners to reposition safely. It is especially important for Calm Mind sets to swap in redirectors or Fake Out support to maintain Mega Gardevoir's sweeping potential. The Speed investment allows Mega Gardevoir to outpace neutral natured base 70s like Bisharp. 56 Special Attack EVs guarantee a 2HKO on standard bulky Thundurus with the remaining EVs dumped into HP and Defense to improve Gardevoir's physical bulk. Trace is a situationally useful ability before Mega Evolution, letting Gardevoir Intimidate opposing Landorus-T, snag Thundurus's Prankster, or get a Download boost from opposing Genesect. Telepathy lets Gardevoir ignore allied Landorus-T's Earthquake before Mega Evolving. Amoonguss, Blastoise, and Scrafty provide redirection and Fake Out support to give Gardevoir safe turns to use Calm Mind and Hyper Voice. Landorus, Landorus-T, and Volcanion handle Steel-types that otherwise wall its STAB attacks. Trick Room variants work especially well with slower partners that benefit from Gardevoir's speed control, including the aforementioned Amoonguss and Scrafty as well as Tyranitar. Finally, Gardevoir appreciates fast partners and priority users such as Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Genesect to threaten opposing fast attackers. Look for safe opportunities to set up Calm Mind with the help of redirectors or when facing passive foes. Use Protect often to manage field states and let partners pick off Mega Gardevoir’s checks. Mega Gardevoir is vulnerable to spread damage from foes like Mega Diancie and Volcanion that chips it down around its redirection support. Steel-types are also difficult to deal with, as Choice Band Genesect's Extreme Speed bypasses redirection and deals massive damage while Mega Gardevoir struggles to retaliate effectively. Additionally, Wide Guard Aegislash can completely shut down its core gameplan.

Moves Moonblast has a high damage output and 100% accuracy; because of this, it is usually the move of choice to deal with specific targets. The choice between Psychic and Psyshock depends on your team, as the former has a higher Base Power, but the latter deals physical damage, which is helpful because many of Gardevoir's checks have low Defense stats. Dazzling Gleam is a STAB spread move, which works if Gardevoir wants to cause more spread damage over the opposing team instead of targeting a specific member. However, Healing Wish allows Gardevoir to come in and completely revive an otherwise incapacitated teammate, immediately changing the momentum of the game. Shadow Ball covers opposing Psychic- and Ghost-types such as Gothitelle, Cresselia, and Aegislash, respectively, better than the previous moves do, while Choice Scarf Destiny Bond allows Gardevoir to switch in at low health and get a surprise KO out of a risky situation. Set Details Choice Scarf supplements one of Gardevoir's weakest points: its base 80 Speed. With maximum Special Attack investment and 244 Speed EVs, Gardevoir outspeeds major threats such as Choice Scarf Adamant Landorus-T, Jolly Smeargle, Mega Gengar, Mega Lopunny, Jolly Mega Tyranitar at +1, and neutral-natured Mega Gyarados at +1 and hits as hard as possible. The remaining EVs go into HP to increase Gardevoir's ability to take hits. However, a variant with 252 Speed and 4 HP EVs works just as well to maximize Speed. Telepathy and Trace work equally well here, catering to whether your team needs a partner to Earthquake users or a counter to specific threats such as Intimidate, Parental Bond, or Competitive users. Usage Tips Choice Scarf Gardevoir works well in either a lead or a clean-up situation, though not both in the same match. Its ability to inflict incredibly quick and good amounts of damage can work very efficiently in either situation. However, Gardevoir finds itself very vulnerable to priority moves due to its low Defense, and Sucker Punch, Fake Out, Bullet Punch, and Shadow Sneak are very prevalent. Be sure to eliminate users of such moves before attempting to sweep. Paralysis and Trick Room are also crippling to Gardevoir, taking away the best asset of the set and allowing common slower sweepers such as Mawile and Camerupt to knock Gardevoir out first. Team Options Gardevoir really appreciates Steel-type checks; Heatran, Arcanine, and Rotom-H work especially well, as they all have respectable bulk and appreciate Gardevoir's Speed allowing them to invest into bulk and power. Landorus-T also acts as an excellent partner, as Intimidate cushions Gardevoir's lackluster Defense and its STAB spread move in Earthquake threatens the entire field. However, if Landorus-T is to be Gardevoir's partner, consider Telepathy over Trace, as Earthquake will hit Gardevoir otherwise. Amoonguss acts as a Trick Room check and has access to Rage Powder and Spore, allowing Gardevoir to more effectively focus on one foe at a time while Amoonguss incapacitates the other. Volcarona also provides Rage Powder support and has Fire-type STAB moves, being a great median of Rage Powder user and Steel-type check. Finally, Gardevoir adores Shadow Tag support, as it is able to trap opposing threats for Gardevoir to eliminate. Gothitelle works excellently, as it has considerable bulk and can provide Helping Hand support as well, while Mega Gengar acts as an offensive force with extremely strong STAB moves that hit Fairy- and Psychic-types, which could otherwise sponge hits, super effectively.

However, a spread with 252 Speed and Special Attack EVs is also extremely effective, maximizing Gardevoir's questionable Speed and dangerous power. Usage Tips Choice Specs Gardevoir works best as a wallbreaker, as its immense power is incredibly hard to deal with for a majority of the metagame, and having remaining team members to clean up allows Gardevoir to more effectively accomplish this goal throughout the match. Firing off a few Moonblasts or Dazzling Gleams is usually all that Gardevoir will be able to accomplish, but the immense amount of damage it can cause is usually worth it. However, Gardevoir can clean up in the late-game equally well, where its power is needed and its mediocre base 80 Speed is less of an issue. Gardevoir does poorly against most priority moves due to its poor HP and Defense, so Sucker Punch, Bullet Punch, Extreme Speed, and Shadow Sneak should be scouted for and their users eliminated. Team Options Gardevoir appreciates Fake Out support, as it nearly guarantees that Gardevoir can use a Choice Specs-boosted Dazzling Gleam or Moonblast. Mega Kangaskhan and Scrafty are excellent partners, as the former's ability Parental Bond creates a lot of offensive pressure and the latter has access to Intimidate and Quick Guard, easing the pressure on Gardevoir. Pokemon that can check Steel-types or provide Intimidate support are also useful, such as Landorus-T or Gyarados with Earthquake or Arcanine with Will-O-Wisp. Gyarados also gets access to Thunder Wave, which provides necessary speed control that Gardevoir also really appreciates to supplement its mediocre Speed. Pokemon with access to Tailwind or Icy Wind are always welcome; for example, Suicune can set up Tailwind and also threatens the Fire-types that resist Moonblast. Thundurus with Prankster Thunder Wave and Encore or Cresselia can provide Thunder Wave, Icy Wind, or even the occasional Helping Hand support to boost the power of Gardevoir's moves even further. Finally, redirection in the form of Rage Powder can be helpful as well. Amoonguss can provide this support and also gets access to Spore, which can be used to cripple the opponent's team. Volcarona's Fire-type STAB moves also threaten enemy Steel-types.

Moves Pixilate Hyper Voice has incredible power, being only marginally less powerful than Choice Specs Sylveon's Hyper Voice. Whether you should run Psychic or Psyshock depends on your team, as the former has a higher Base Power, but the latter deals physical damage, and many common switch-ins to Mega Gardevoir have lower Defense than Special Defense. Finally, Shadow Ball can be used to hit opposing Psychic-types such as Cresselia and Gothitelle hard, while Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast can be used to deal with common Steel-type switch-ins such as Heatran, Metagross, and Ferrothorn. Protect is a staple move in Battle Spot Doubles, and it gives Gardevoir a free turn to Mega Evolve and shift its mediocre base 80 Speed to a more tolerable base 100 Speed. Set Details 252 Special Attack EVs and a Modest nature maximize spread damage and allow Gardevoir to whittle down or knock out as many foes as possible as quickly as possible. With 20 Speed EVs, Mega Gardevoir outspeeds Bisharp and OHKOes it with Hyper Voice. 108 HP and 4 Special Defense EVs are enough so that Modest Gengar cannot OHKO Mega Gardevoir with Sludge Bomb or Shadow Ball. 124 Defense EVs increase Mega Gardevoir's physical bulk. However, the EVs can be put into Speed, and a spread of 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe could be considered to maximize Speed and power. Usage Tips As with all Mega Evolutions, Mega Gardevoir is best used as a sweeper instead of a lead, though using it as a lead can take the heat off of other, more frail sweepers that could always benefit from Mega Gardevoir weakening the opponent's team, such as Gengar or Weavile. Mega Gardevoir's poor Defense stat requires it caution next to Earthquake users, and the loss of Telepathy only maximizes this worry. Gardevoir should also be used after its checks, such as Metagross, Mawile, and Scizor, have already been dispatched of or at least weakened. Team Options Mega Gardevoir adores Intimidate support and partners that beat Pokemon that resist Fairy. Arcanine has access to Intimidate, can threaten most Steel- and Bug-types, and can spread burns. Pokemon such as Volcarona and Amoonguss are just as helpful, as they can beat most Fairy checks and divert attention from Mega Gardevoir with Rage Powder. Milotic has access to Icy Wind to further augment Gardevoir's Speed and let it fully utilize its power; Milotic can also use Scald to burn foes, halving the damage taken from physical attacks and making Gardevoir's frail Defense more tolerable. Mega Gardevoir also works well as a "second Mega Evolution" alongside another Mega Evolution such as Garchomp, Venusaur, Lucario, or Tyranitar, which can all work with or without their Mega Stone, allowing for more diverse in-game decisions to adapt to your opponent's team.

Moves Moonblast is Gardevoir's primary STAB move, hitting Dragon-types such as Garchomp, Mega Salamence, and Hydreigon. This is generally the safest move to lock into due to its superior coverage over Psyshock and its decent chance to lower the Special Attack of a possible switch-in. Psyshock is a secondary STAB move that allows Gardevoir to revenge kill Poison-types such as Gengar and Mega Venusaur, though Moonblast is better against most Fighting-types due to its greater coverage and ability to hit Dark-types. Choice Scarf Gardevoir doesn't wallbreak, so Psychic is a viable alternative that hits physically defensive threats like defensive Mega Venusaur and Rotom-W harder. Trick allows Gardevoir to be useful against bulkier threats if it doesn't need its Choice Scarf anymore, crippling the likes of Cresselia and Ferrothorn, as well as Klefki after Tracing Prankster. Destiny Bond allows Gardevoir to take down a threat with it if the ability to revenge kill Dragon-types and the surprise factor of Choice Scarf are no longer useful. Choice Scarf Gardevoir often finds itself unable to beat Pokemon that aren't weak to its STAB moves, so Destiny Bond allows it to take down a threat that it wouldn't beat otherwise. Set Details Choice Scarf allows Gardevoir to function as a revenge killer and offers notable surprise factor due to most opponents expecting Mega Gardevoir. Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment allows Gardevoir to hit as hard as possible while outspeeding as many threats as possible with a Choice Scarf. Trace allows Gardevoir to copy a more useful ability and use it against the foe, such as Speed Boost or Levitate, which makes it more difficult to revenge kill. A Timid nature allows Gardevoir to outspeed Modest Choice Scarf Rotom-W and Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T as well as the occasional Mega Lopunny and Mega Sceptile to revenge kill them with Moonblast. It also allows Gardevoir to keep up with Life Orb Blaziken if it Traces Speed Boost. Usage Tips As a dedicated revenge killer, Gardevoir should primarily come in as after a partner has been KOed. However, bringing Gardevoir in against a faster threat such as Garchomp or Salamence might make the opponent suspect it is holding Choice Scarf, so try to avoid making that too obvious. While not always ideal, leading with Choice Scarf Gardevoir is effective at catching an opponent off-guard, since they are less likely to suspect the Choice Scarf. Do note that this is dependent on the opponent's lead being favorable for Gardevoir, so avoid doing so unless Gardevoir has a generally favorable matchup against the opposing team. Trick should only be used against bulky Pokemon that Gardevoir can't break on its own, but Choice Scarf Gardevoir generally should not be brought against very bulky teams, since it struggles to win against most bulky threats even once it Tricks its Choice Scarf away. Destiny Bond makes Gardevoir useful even against teams that aren't weak to its STAB moves, so Gardevoir can still be useful even if its STAB combination isn't very helpful. However, sacrificing Gardevoir too early can put you at a disadvantage if the revenge killing utility is still useful, so Destiny Bond should not be used recklessly. Team Options Choice Scarf Gardevoir is primarily used to support teams, so it's more important that the team appreciates Gardevoir's utility than it appreciates the utility that its teammates offer. This Gardevoir fits primarily on offensive teams, so it should be paired with wallbreakers and sweepers such as Mega Charizard X, Mega Kangaskhan, and Blaziken. Blaziken in particular can deal with opposing Mega Mawile and Mega Kangaskhan, both of which have priority moves to pick off Gardevoir that Blaziken resists. Pokemon that are troubled by Dragon-types such as Volcarona and Mega Charizard Y also appreciate Gardevoir's ability to surprise Garchomp and Mega Salamence. Priority users are a huge problem for Gardevoir, since they hit its weaker Defense, which makes its job as a revenge killer more difficult. Zapdos, Rotom-W, and Heatran deal with Talonflame and Scizor, while Ghost-types such as Aegislash can deal with Extreme Speed users. Zapdos can also deal with Azumarill and can wear foes down with Rocky Helmet. Suicune can generally switch into most priority users safely and can wear down physical attackers to help Gardevoir clean late-game. Stealth Rock support is also useful for letting Gardevoir clean a weakened team late-game, so Ferrothorn, Landorus-T, and Garchomp are effective partners that can also wear teams down with Rocky Helmet.

Moves Hyper Voice is boosted by Pixilate and functions as Mega Gardevoir's primary Fairy-type STAB move. It also hits a foe behind a Substitute, which is useful against the likes of Whimsicott and Gyarados. Psyshock hits Poison-types such as Gengar and also gives Mega Gardevoir an STAB move to use against Fire-types such as Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona and hits Chansey through its weaker Defense. Taunt is useful for preventing status moves from the likes of Chansey and Cresselia and also prevents Calm Mind users such as Suicune and Raikou from setting up so that Mega Gardevoir can beat them more easily. Tracing Prankster also allows Gardevoir to Taunt Klefki before it can use Thunder Wave. Focus Blast hits Steel-types such as Heatran and Ferrothorn, which otherwise wall Mega Gardevoir completely. Hidden Power Fire lets Mega Gardevoir beat both Ferrothorn and Scizor, though Scizor can OHKO Mega Gardevoir with Bullet Punch, so this is best used as it switches in. Hidden Power Ground is an alternative that hits Heatran without the risk of missing like Focus Blast but misses out on hitting Ferrothorn and doesn't do as much damage to other Steel-types. If Taunt's utility isn't necessary, running both Focus Blast and Hidden Power is viable as well, letting Mega Gardevoir cover Steel-types more thoroughly. Set Details Gardevoirite is necessary to Mega Evolve, which is important for allowing Gardevoir to make use of Pixilate Hyper Voice. Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment allows Mega Gardevoir to hit as fast and hard as possible. Trace lets Gardevoir copy a more useful ability to use against the foe before it Mega Evolves, such as Intimidate, Prankster, Speed Boost, or Volt Absorb. A Modest nature is preferred to boost Mega Gardevoir's huge Special Attack further and is ideally used with paralysis support from the likes of Thundurus and Serperior. Alternatively, Timid allows Mega Gardevoir to Speed tie with the numerous Pokemon in the base 100 Speed tier such as Mega Kangaskhan and both Mega Charizard formes. It also allows Gardevoir to outspeed Breloom before Mega Evolving. If you're running Hidden Power Ground, 4 EVs should be moved from Special Attack to Defense to avoid wasting EVs. Likewise, an EV spread of 4 HP / 4 Def / 248 SpA / 4 SpD / 248 Spe should be used with Hidden Power Fire. Usage Tips Mega Gardevoir is a wallbreaker, so it should be primarily used against slower, bulkier teams; switching into Mega Gardevoir is difficult, so capitalizing on Hyper Voice's power is important. An opponent is generally more likely to bring a Steel-type just to have a switch-in for Mega Gardevoir, so bringing teammates that handle the likes of Aegislash and Heatran helps to take advantage of how threatening Pixilate Hyper Voice is for most foes. Mega Gardevoir works well early-game to weaken bulky threats such as Slowbro and Suicune for a sweeper like Talonflame or Garchomp. It's best to bring Mega Gardevoir in on a foe that can't threaten it much, such as a Garchomp or Dragonite locked into Outrage or a more passive threat such as Rotom-W or Slowbro. This is especially useful because it often creates a free turn to hit a potential switch-in with a powerful Hyper Voice. Mega Gardevoir also works well late-game against weakened teams, though it needs support to handle faster threats, since it does not fare well against faster physical attackers. Physical priority is also a huge problem for Mega Gardevoir, so it's usually better not to bring Gardevoir along against teams with many powerful priority users such as Talonflame and Scizor. Team Options Mega Gardevoir greatly appreciates paralysis support, so Zapdos, Ferrothorn, Thundurus, Serperior, and Rotom-W are effective partners. Serperior in particular can paralyze Garchomp and Landorus-T with Glare, which both otherwise threaten Mega Gardevoir. Meanwhile, Zapdos, Thundurus, and Rotom-W can handle Talonflame, with the former having Heat Wave to hit Steel-types as well. Ferrothorn can also offer Stealth Rock support to help break through bulkier threats more effectively. Partners that can beat Scizor such as Heatran and Aegislash are useful for Mega Gardevoir. Both have generally great matchups against opposing Steel-types as well, which reduces the need for Mega Gardevoir to rely on its own coverage moves to beat them. Late-game sweepers and cleaners appreciate Mega Gardevoir's ability to break down bulkier teams; Talonflame and Choice Scarf Garchomp are effective cleaners alongside Mega Gardevoir, and they also make up for Gardevoir's lack of Speed. Intimidate Pokemon such as Gyarados and Landorus-T help Gardevoir take physical attacks better and can also chip away at Mega Kangaskhan with Rocky Helmet. They also fare well against most priority users. Similarly, Suicune can take on most physical attackers that threaten Mega Gardevoir and checks Talonflame while being able to patch up Mega Gardevoir's vulnerability to physical attacks with Scald burns or even Reflect. Blaziken is also an effective teammate for Mega Gardevoir, potentially functioning as a secondary Mega option due to its ability to beat Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Gengar more reliably. Alternatively, Life Orb Blaziken can also deal with Aegislash well with Overheat, while Baton Pass variants can give Mega Gardevoir the Speed to sweep on its own.

A great movepool often means wide coverage, and this holds true for Gardevoir. With Psychic, Thunderbolt, and Focus Blast, Gardevoir hits everything in the tier bar Shedinja for at least neutral damage. With a Choice Scarf, Gardevoir makes a great revenge killer, albeit a graceful one. Coupled with decent base 80 Speed, Gardevoir is no slouch at outpacing many opponents when decked out with a Choice Scarf. With Trace, Gardevoir can act as a great counter to Pokemon dependent on weather to boost their Speed, such as Swift Swim Omastar. Because Trace copies the opponent's ability, Gardevoir can enjoy the benefits of the opponent's weather and put them to its own advantage. Choice Scarf Gardevoir outspeeds all Swift Swim and Chlorophyll abusers thanks to Trace, effectively countering them. On the other hand, Choice Specs Gardevoir is a force to be reckoned with. Hidden beneath its docile appearance is the nasty ability to absolutely wreck most Pokemon when holding Choice Specs. Trick allows Gardevoir to cripple walls, especially those dependent on Eviolite, such as Ferroseed. However, a Choice Specs-boosted Focus Blast will 2HKO Eviolite Ferroseed anyway. A timely Trick can also cripple set-up sweepers attempting to nab free boosts on Gardevoir. Shadow Ball is an alternative to Trick that has perfect coverage with Focus Blast. Other interesting moves that Gardevoir can use on this set include Energy Ball, Grass Knot, and Signal Beam. However, the standard moves as given are generally the best options, unless you need Gardevoir to nab surprise KOs on certain threats. This Gardevoir set is bound to have problems with Pursuit users, unfortunately. Furthermore, locking Gardevoir into an inappropriate move too early can spell doom for this damsel in distress. Gardevoir is extremely prone to getting revenge killed, especially since Dark-types, such as Spiritomb and Drapion, run rampant in the RU tier. This is where Team Preview comes into play; Team Preview is a huge asset to take advantage of when using this Gardevoir set, as you can use it to easily spot potential Gardevoir counters. Instead of blindly sending out Gardevoir and clicking Psychic, you can opt to immediately switch it out to scout for the opponent's switch-in and possibly predict the switch the next time Gardevoir is in play. A well-timed Focus Blast can easily decimate Steel-types such as Steelix and Aggron, while Thunderbolt will fry Absol and Crawdaunt. Dark-types of your own, such as Drapion and Zweilous, are good teammates; Fighting-types are also notable partners. They can easily set up on a Choice-locked Pursuit in the event of a misplay. Entry hazard support is really great, as it allows Gardevoir to secure a few KOs. Steelix is not only a physical wall that has good synergy with Gardevoir, it can also set up Stealth Rock. Ferroseed is another notable teammate, as it resists two of the types that Gardevoir is weak to, has access to entry hazards, such as Stealth Rock and Spikes, and can use Leech Seed to provide some recovery for Gardevoir. Wish support is deeply appreciated as Gardevoir has no method of healing itself; Wish can bring Gardevoir back from the brink of fainting, allowing it to wreak even more havoc and cause more frustration for the opponent as they try in vain to bring it down.

Despite having a poor defensive typing and an abysmal Defense stat, Gardevoir is well suited for a support role thanks to its excellent movepool. Will-O-Wisp allows Gardevoir to spread burns and abuse its tendency to attract physical attackers, punishing them for their naivety. As the burn status halves the burnt Pokemon's power, Gardevoir can take physical hits more easily from a burnt opponent; Gardevoir can even survive a Pursuit at full health from a burnt Choice Band Drapion. It can also stall for burn damage with Wish and Protect. Wish provides Gardevoir's allies with some support, although Gardevoir does not have a huge HP stat, which diminishes the usefulness of such a strategy. Alternatively, Gardevoir can use Heal Bell to act as a cleric, though it might have to rely on the inconsistent Pain Split to regain health, as Gardevoir often has difficulty receiving its own Wish without the use of Protect. Psychic is Gardevoir's best STAB option, and prevents it from being Taunt bait. This set not only aims to support the team, it can also wall several special attackers, who can't even scratch its white dress without a super effective move. The given EV spread maximizes both Gardevoir's special bulk and the HP payload of its Wish. With this spread, most special attackers will have difficulty denting Gardevoir unless they pack super effective attacks, such as Shadow Ball and Signal Beam. It is recommended to invest Gardevoir's EVs into Special Defense instead of Defense, as even with maximum Defense EVs, Gardevoir has difficulty walling a considerable number of physical attackers. Thus, it is better for it to simply cripple physical attackers with a burn. Gardevoir is not restricted to spreading burns; it can also utilize other status moves, such as Thunder Wave and Toxic, though Will-O-Wisp is generally the better option. Thunder Wave is an excellent choice for supporting slow sweepers on the team, such as Choice Band Aggron, whereas Toxic enables Gardevoir to stall a myriad of Pokemon with the use of Wish and Protect. Thunderbolt can be used over Psychic as the sole attacking move, as it hits Absol--a common switch-in to Gardevoir--for good damage. Healing Wish is an interesting option to consider that gives a sweeper a second chance at doing its job after Gardevoir is done supporting the team. Synchronize can be used over Trace to deter status, and let Gardevoir act as a pseudo-status absorber. However it is rather counterproductive, as Gardevoir can cure itself with Heal Bell, and Trace is the better option in most cases. For example, Trace allows Gardevoir to switch in on the likes of Lightningrod Manectric for free if it uses an Electric-type move, and also gain a Special Attack boost. This would greatly aid Gardevoir in walling several special attackers. Although Gardevoir has Will-O-Wisp to threaten physical attackers, there are several that it still has to be wary of. A single physical attack can swiftly eliminate this graceful Pokemon. Pursuit users are always a great concern for Gardevoir; Drapion, for example, checkmates Gardevoir if it can get in safely--Gardevoir has to burn Drapion on the switch to stand a chance of winning. Even with Will-O-Wisp to stunt most physical attackers, physical walls such as Steelix are still great teammates to the maiden in white dress as it can sponge Dark-, Bug-, and Ghost-type moves attempting to finish Gardevoir off. Furthermore, the burn support that Gardevoir provides makes it easier for the physical walls to do their job. Bulky Fighting-types, such as Hariyama and Poliwrath, are good teammates; they can easily set up on a Choice-locked Pursuit and appreciate the Wish and Heal Bell support that Gardevoir provides.

Gardevoir has access to dual screens, so why not make use of it? At first glance, Gardevoir might seemed outclassed by other dual screens users, most notably Uxie, which boasts better bulk and access to U-turn. There seems to be no reason to use Gardevoir over Uxie! However, Gardevoir has access to Taunt and Will-O-Wisp, which might prove to be more useful than U-turn or Yawn in certain cases. With Taunt, Gardevoir can prevent the opposing Pokemon from setting up while Gardevoir executes its strategy, which takes a total of three turns. Additionally, Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers, so Gardevoir is effectively taking a quarter of the usual damage when facing a burnt Pokemon behind Reflect. Psychic can be used if you would rather Gardevoir not be Taunt bait. Like Uxie, it has access to Memento, which Gardevoir can use to sacrifice itself after setting up the screens and allow its teammate to enter the field safely, and gain a free turn to set up. The main aim of this set is to support a sweeper, especially one that cannot be taken down easily while behind screens. As a rule of thumb, you should always set up Reflect first, as Gardevoir never fails to attract physical attackers. After that, it can proceed to burn the target with Will-O-Wisp or set up Light Screen, then pave way for the sweeper with Memento. Light Clay is the compulsory item on this set to extend the screens' number of turns. The given EV spread maximizes Gardevoir's HP and Speed, allowing it to take hits better generally, and quickly set up screens or cripple the opposing Pokemon with an appropriate move. Healing Wish is an alternative to Memento that heals your sweeper completely. As this set's sole purpose is to make set up easier for the incoming sweeper, Gardevoir must be paired with a set up sweeper that appreciates the dual screens support. Rock Polish Aggron is a good example. It has extremely high Defense behind Reflect and great Special Defense under Light Screen, making it obscenely hard to take down. Furthermore, it has good synergy with Gardevoir--Aggron resists all of the attacks Gardevoir is weak to. Other examples include Shell Smash Omastar and Hariyama. Though Omastar might not have good type synergy with Gardevoir, it greatly appreciates dual screens support, as it makes Omastar harder to take down with priority moves--even Mach Punch. Hariyama can easily set up on a Choice-locked Pursuit, and is extremely difficult to KO thanks to the screens.

With so many powerful Dark-types in RU just waiting to plunge Gardevoir into total darkness, the graceful Gardevoir must find a way to outdo them without plainly resorting to brute strength. The multitude of Dark-types can often corner Gardevoir with Pursuit, but this set aims to rectify that. By casting a Substitute, Gardevoir shields itself from a possible incoming Pursuit. Behind a Substitute, Gardevoir will put many physical attackers in an awkward position; physical attackers find themselves no longer able to neither check nor counter Gardevoir in a single move, and possibly have to choose between breaking the Substitute and getting KOed by an attack, or flee for their lives. With Substitute giving Gardevoir some protection from physical attacks, it can proceed to launch off a few powerful attacks of its own. Additionally, Substitute can possibly earn Gardevoir a couple of free turns as the opponent scrambles to find an appropriate counter. This set remedies Gardevoir's Pursuit weakness, and allows it to counter several threats it probably couldn't with other sets. For example, Absol will be put in a disadvantageous position when Gardevoir is behind a Substitute. No longer can Absol use Sucker Punch to KO Gardevoir; it now faces the possibility of being OHKOed by Focus Blast instead. Although this set allows Gardevoir to easily outmaneuver several threats, it can still be revenge killed if you're not careful. Substitute is mandatory to keep Gardevoir alive as long as possible and nab a few KOs. However, once the Substitute has faded, it signals the time for Gardevoir to fly gracefully back into its Poke Ball, elated that it has done what it usually could not. Without Substitute, this variant is no different from the other sets, and is as prone to being revenge killed as it normally would be. Keeping the Substitute up is the key to success for this set. Use this set with caution, as a simple misplay can prove to be costly. For example, if Gardevoir loses its Substitute while attempting to KO something when the opponent has a Pursuit user waiting in the wings, Gardevoir will still be revenge killed. With some sleight of hand, it is possible that Gardevoir can swiftly remove Pursuit users itself. Expert Belt can be used on this set for greater damage output; Life Orb should not be used as its recoil, coupled with the HP lost in creating Substitutes, can be overwhelming. Shadow Ball can be used over Thunderbolt for perfect coverage alongside Focus Blast, but Thunderbolt hits more Pokemon super effectively, most notably Murkrow and Crawdaunt. Encore is an option to use for easing set up, though Gardevoir appreciates the coverage it gets from its three main moves. Fighting-types are great teammates to maintain offensive pressure, even when Gardevoir's Substitute is broken and it has to switch out. Entry hazard support is much appreciated, as this set can force multiple switches thanks to Substitute. Ferroseed makes a good teammate because it can set up entry hazards, such as Stealth Rock and Spikes, and has good synergy with Gardevoir. Wish support from Clefable can give Gardevoir another whirl and heal any HP lost from making Substitutes.

With a Choice item, Gardevoir becomes either an efficient revenge killer or a great wallbreaker. A great offensive movepool, access to Trick, and acceptably distributed base stats allow Gardevoir to become a dangerous threat. Psychic, combined with Thunderbolt, gives Gardevoir the ability to hit every Pokemon in UU for neutral damage, except for Steelix, Magneton, Shedinja, and Exeggutor. Steel-types including Steelix, Magneton, or Registeel are hammered by Focus Blast. To top the set off, Trick allows Gardevoir to cripple an incoming wall, such as Chansey, Clefable, and Registeel, with an unwanted item. To deal with Psychic- and Ghost-types, such as the aforementioned Shedinja and Exeggutor, Shadow Ball is a great alternative move over Trick. The EVs listed apply only if Gardevoir is using a Timid nature. 252 Speed EVs allow Gardevoir to reach 426 Speed with a Choice Scarf, outrunning everything up to and including Electrode and Modest Choice Scarf Rotom. If Modest is the chosen nature, 16 Def / 252 SpA / 240 Spe should be used. 240 Speed EVs reach 384 Speed, outrunning max Speed positive nature base 125 Pokemon, namely Swellow. As for the item, Choice Scarf is the main option as it gives Gardevoir's base 80 Speed a grand boost, allowing her to outrun and deal good damage to most threats. On the other hand, Choice Specs does nothing for Gardevoir's Speed, but it does provide an incredible power boost behind every attack; for instance, Gardevoir has a chance to 2HKO standard Registeel and OHKO 252 / 252 Calm Clefable with Focus Blast. Choice Gardevoir has a rough time with Pursuit users, especially those who resist or are immune to Psychic. Drapion, Absol, and Spiritomb are all massive threats for this reason. Unfortunately, there is not much that can be done, especially if Gardevoir finishes off a Pokemon and a Pursuit user switches in for the revenge kill. Caution is therefore required if Gardevoir is needed to KO important Pokemon. Double switching Gardevoir out to a Pokemon who can take on the aforementioned Dark-types, such as Donphan and Venusaur, may seem like a lousy waste of a turn, but this effectively scouts what Pursuit user the foe may have. Even with Trick, Gardevoir will still have problems with special walls, primarily Chansey. Dugtrio will solve any Chansey problems with his Arena Trap ability and Earthquake unless Chansey holds Shed Shell. If Dugtrio isn't suitable, Pursuit users on Gardevoir's side will work as well. Drapion, Absol, and Spiritomb, despite being vulnerable to status from Chansey, are some STAB Pursuit users who can trap and defeat it. Defensive Fighting-types such as Hitmontop and Hariyama will also help out against Chansey, although rare is the scenario where an opponent will leave Chansey in against these Fighting-types. Hitmontop also comes with a Technician-boosted Pursuit.

This set aims to support the team by burning and cutting the opponent's Attack stat in half while providing overall healing with the help of Gardevoir's immense special bulk. Will-O-Wisp allows Gardevoir to cripple enemy physical attackers, such as Absol, Drapion, and Spiritomb, with a damaging burn. To restore Gardevoir's health, it can use Wish and Protect; the combination essentially gives Gardevoir a 50% recovery move. Protect also helps Gardevoir stall while the opponent is continuously hurt by burn. If a cleric is needed, Gardevoir can perform that role as well thanks to Heal Bell, but note that Wish will become much more difficult to use since you no longer have room for Protect. Therefore, when using Heal Bell, choosing Pain Split as the health recovery move is recommended. Last but not least, Psychic is Gardevoir's STAB option to deal damage. If Pain Split is being used, note that it can perform either better or worse than Wish and Protect depending on the circumstances. Against Clefable, Wish and Protect would be the superior option due to Clefable’s merely fine HP stat. However, if Pain Split is used on Chansey, expect a massive amount of health stolen due to its base 250 HP. In other cases, the opponent could switch in a low HP Pokemon on a Pain Split, essentially making Gardevoir waste a turn hurting itself. Although not mentioned, Thunderbolt can be used in the fourth slot if Protect or Heal Bell aren't necessary. Thunderbolt allows Gardevoir to attack Pokemon who take little or no damage from Psychic, such as Drapion, Houndoom, and Mesprit. Gardevoir can also utilize Taunt, which can stop slower walls from using support moves. Lastly, Hypnosis and Thunder Wave are usable for double status. Hypnosis can effectively remove a Pokemon from play. Thunder Wave can slow down deadly Pokemon such as Arcanine and Houndoom, allowing your teammates to outrun and KO them. The EVs allow Gardevoir to be as specially bulky as possible. 252 HP and 252 Special Defense EVs allow Gardevoir to survive dangerous attacks such as Life Orb Dark Pulse from +2 Modest Toxicroak, Choice Specs Shadow Ball from Timid Rotom, and Life Orb Surf in the rain from Omastar. Gardevoir can also use a more physically bulky spread with 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 SpD. With this spread, Gardevoir takes 42.4% - 50% from Jolly Life Orb Hitmonlee's Close Combat. In return, Gardevoir has a high chance to OHKO Hitmonlee even without Close Combat's defenses drops with Psychic despite no Special Attack investment. Gardevoir will usually run into trouble against Flash Fire Pokemon--namely Houndoom and Arcanine--who can absorb its Will-O-Wisp. Teammates who can deal with these Pokemon are extremely beneficial to Gardevoir. Against these Fire-types, Water-type Pokemon such as Blastoise and Milotic can switch in and destroy them with Surf. Pokemon with Calm Mind and Taunt or Substitute, such as Mismagius and Alakazam, are equally threatening. Encore can be used over Heal Bell to remedy this weakness if the foe isn't using Taunt, but note that Will-O-Wisp is illegal with Encore, so Thunder Wave or Hypnosis will have to replace Will-O-Wisp. Alternatively, Registeel deals with Mismagius, Alakazam, and even certain physical priority users such as Ambipom and Scyther, but be wary that Registeel may take a good chunk of damage in return, especially if you mispredict and switch into the wrong attack. Strong physical attackers who outspeed Gardevoir and have not been burned by Will-O-Wisp will be a problem, especially Pursuit users. Venusaur, Scyther, and Absol all fall in this problematic category. Therefore, a strong physical tank or wall, such as Registeel, Rotom, or Weezing, will make a good partner for Gardevoir. Registeel can Thunder Wave these threats, while the other two can burn them if Gardevoir fails to do so on the switch.

Gardevoir with Calm Mind can sweep whole teams given the right scenario. With the moves to provide neutral coverage as well as stopping walls or tanks from being annoying, Gardevoir can prove to be a stable Calm Mind sweeper. Calm Mind is the purpose of this set, allowing Gardevoir to increase her special stats to astounding levels. Focus Blast and Shadow Ball together hit every Pokemon for neutral damage, and crucially both can hit Pokemon whom Gardevoir cannot harm with her STAB Psychic for super effective damage, such as Registeel, Uxie, and Absol. Thunderbolt is a great alternative move over Shadow Ball to provide more damage against a different group of Pokemon, such as Milotic, Moltres, and Drifblim. Psychic is Gardevoir's best STAB attack to use, but its coverage may be redundant. As such, Taunt is a great replacement over Psychic to prevent status from incoming walls while also stopping them from restoring their health. If Gardevoir has Taunt in place of Psychic, note that there will be cases where Psychic's reliable STAB will be missed. For example, a Clefable with around 30% HP can faint from Gardevoir's Focus Blast, but in this case Psychic would be the better option due to its 100% accuracy as opposed to Focus Blast's 70%. Against Pokemon who take neutral damage from both Shadow Ball and Focus Blast, such as Arcanine and Lanturn, Psychic does more damage. Although better suited for defensive sets, Will-O-Wisp in the fourth slot can help Gardevoir cripple physical threats, which enables Gardevoir to set up more Calm Minds. This gives Gardevoir two roles in one: a supporter and a sweeper. Maxing Gardevoir's Speed stat gives 284 Speed, Speed-tying with Pokemon such as Venusaur, Kabutops, and Blaziken. All three of these Pokemon can be slaughtered by Psychic (or Thunderbolt in Kabutops's case). As for the item, Life Orb allows Gardevoir to dish out more damage at the cost of being more fragile. However, if that's not favorable, Leftovers can be used to give Gardevoir more survivability. Because Gardevoir has only base 80 Speed and base 65 Defense, faster physical attackers such as Dugtrio, Drapion, and Scyther can switch in on a Calm Mind and threaten with their most damaging move or Pursuit (or plainly trap Gardevoir in Dugtrio's case). Scouting for these Pokemon beforehand and burning or paralyzing them with Pokemon such as Rotom, Registeel, and Clefable would help Gardevoir destroy these Pokemon when they switch back in. Encore users and dedicated special walls, such as Clefable, Chansey, and Spiritomb, also pose problems for this set if it lacks Taunt, as they can lock Gardevoir into one move, which Calm Mind Gardevoir does not like, or just plainly wall and wear down Gardevoir. Physically-minded Pokemon such as Guts Hariyama, Aggron, and Arcanine can help Gardevoir out against these threats. Guts Hariyama can pummel the two Normal-types while absorbing status from all three. Stone Edge or Payback from Hariyama will also eventually destroy Spiritomb who lack Rest. Aggron must watch out for status from the three Pokemon, but if he can get in on an attack, he will deal devastating damage against them with his Head Smash. Non-RestTalk Arcanine plays much more conservatively with Morning Sun and Flash Fire, but watch out for incoming Thunder Wave when using him. Arcanine with Intimidate also helps out against physical Spiritomb.

The goal of this set is to reliably set up dual screens and then use Memento, giving a sweeper an essential free switch-in. With her sacrifice, Gardevoir ensures that your incoming sweeper has a higher chance of sweeping the opponent's team. With the help of Light Clay increasing the duration of dual screens, Reflect and Light Screen become very potent for handling packs of vicious attackers. Reflect should be used first to patch up Gardevoir's weaker Defense stat, followed by Light Screen as a matter of course. Once both screens have been set up, Memento should be used to faint Gardevoir while crippling both of the opponent's offensive stats. This allows a sweeper to switch in without fear of being damaged greatly while also forcing the opponent to switch out. To help Gardevoir set up the screens and support the sweepers, Taunt can be used to safeguard against annoying status moves, especially sleep, and support moves, such as Stealth Rock, Wish, and Toxic Spikes. Will-O-Wisp is a great alternative to cripple physical attackers; when combined with Reflect, physical attackers will no longer be a problem. Lastly, Psychic allows Gardevoir to avoid being setup bait when Taunted. Healing Wish can be used over Memento if the protection provided by dual screens is generally enough. This allows a sweeper from early-game to be usable again in late-game. However, if Gardevoir did not take the attack beforehand, make sure that when switching in the sweeper won't be KOed by the incoming attack while switching in. This particular Gardevoir specifically wants dedicated setup sweepers who can make use of the dual screens and Memento. Sweepers who are resistant or take little damage from Gardevoir's weaknesses should be considered; examples include Swords Dance Drapion, Rock Polish Aggron, Dragon Dance Altaria, and Swords Dance or Agility Blaziken. Fast Taunt and Encore users can be annoying to this Gardevoir as they can stop her from doing her job or lock her into a useless move. Ambipom, Mismagius, and Alakazam are able to do this, but at the same time are very fragile as well. Choice Band Spiritomb can easily switch into any of these Pokemon and remove them with Pursuit. Toxic Orb Swellow, on the Taunt or Encore, can outspeed and OHKO all three of these Pokemon with Brave Bird or Facade, but needs to be sure he is not switching into an attack. Swellow can also utilize Pursuit to trap the aforementioned threats.

This Gardevoir set is a little more specialized, and therefore more situational, than her other sets, but it still functions well in the UU metagame. The basic premise of the set is to use Gardevoir as an all-out attacker, who, at the same time, can act as one of the best Rain Dance checks in the UU tier. When countering rain teams, the idea is to switch Gardevoir into one of the opponent's Swift Swim Pokemon and copy its ability with Trace. After Gardevoir has Traced Swift Swim, she becomes faster than every other Swift Swim abuser (with the exceptions of Floatzel and Qwilfish). From there, Gardevoir can use the rain to her advantage and turn the tables on the opponent, forcing them to go on the defensive. The great thing about Gardevoir as a rain check is that she can continue to sweep outside of the rain, thanks to her good Speed and tremendous Special Attack stats. Psychic is the STAB move of choice and is a strong, reliable move that allows Gardevoir to destroy Venusaur and the multitude of Fighting-types in the tier. The other moves give Gardevoir excellent coverage, as well as the best possible combination of moves to counter-sweep a rain team. Thunderbolt combines with Psychic for near perfect neutral coverage in UU, as it smacks Milotic, Moltres, and Slowbro for super effective damage; it also OHKOes every Swift Swim sweeper outside of Ludicolo. Shadow Ball can be run over Thunderbolt to nail Ghost-types, especially Rotom and Mismagius, and Psychic-types for super effective damage. As Gardevoir is an attacker first and a rain check second, being walled too easily by common walls such as Registeel, Chansey, and Clefable is a problem. Focus Blast solves this problem by 2HKOing Registeel and dealing 74.6% - 88.3% to the standard Clefable, which is a KO if Clefable first switches in on Psychic. Unfortunately, Gardevoir remains utterly walled by Chansey. If you find Focus Blast's accuracy to be a huge turn off, Signal Beam is a good substitute, allowing Gardevoir to hit Ludicolo, the most popular rain sweeper in UU; fellow Psychic-types, such as Uxie, Mesprit, and Slowking; and pure Grass-types, including Tangrowth and Leafeon, for super effective damage; coincidentally, the aforementioned Psychic-types are also common rain starters. Keep in mind that Shadow Ball and Signal Beam should never be used in conjunction, as they have a lot of overlapping coverage, and Gardevoir will be left out in the cold versus a whole myriad of Pokemon. The last slot is left for Will-O-Wisp, which is Gardevoir's best auxiliary move inside and outside rain, allowing it to cripple potential Dark-type counters such as Spiritomb, Absol, Drapion, and Skuntank. Expert Belt can be run over Life Orb thanks to Gardevoir's excellent super effective coverage, and it also gives it a little more survivability. However, the slight loss in power is a turn-off, as Expert Belt makes it so that Gardevoir is required to run Thunderbolt to OHKO the aforementioned rain sweepers. Energy Ball is a nice replacement for Thunderbolt and gets all the same OHKOs on the rain sweepers while also having the added benefit of hitting Rhyperior, Donphan, and Lanturn for super effective damage. If you are hell-bent on stopping rain at all costs, Taunt can be used to ensure that Rain Dance cannot be used in front of Gardevoir. Outside of rain, Taunt lets Gardevoir shut down Chansey, Registeel, and Clefable without the need for Focus Blast. Finally, Reflect or Light Screen can be used to provide a buffer against incoming revenge killers such as Dark-type Pursuit users, as well as to support the rest of Gardevoir's team. If rain is not a factor in the battle, Gardevoir works well as an all-out attacker. Just bring in Gardevoir on weak special attacks, such as Milotic's Surf, and let loose with any attack your heart desires. Gardevoir's ability also comes into play here, as it is able to Trace Lanturn's Volt Absorb as it switches in and be healed from Lanturn's Thunderbolt. It can do the same to Water Absorb users such as Quagsire and Poliwrath and Flash Fire users like Arcanine and Houndoom (extreme caution should be taken around the latter, however). The trickiness comes into play when using Gardevoir as a rain check, as its low physical defense makes it hard for it to switch into the above Swift Swim sweepers safely. It is OHKOed by most of their attacks under the rain, so in most cases, she will have to be brought in after a teammate has been KOed. Another strategy is to employ a double-switch with a teammate such as Registeel, who walls a majority of rain sweepers. U-turn from a partner such as Uxie will also give it the opportunity to come in safely. Coincidentally, Gardevoir also makes a good Sunny Day check. With Signal Beam and Psychic, it has no problem OHKOing a majority of the normal Chlorophyll sweepers, such as Shiftry, Exeggutor, Victreebel, and Vileplume, and gets a near OHKO on Tangrowth. Donphan and Cloyster make good teammates; they can Rapid Spin, wall physical attacks aimed at Gardevoir, and set up their own entry hazards. Lead Cloyster can also prevent Uxie from getting up Stealth Rock while also setting up its own hazards. Priority users can clean up any KOs Gardevoir may have missed; Ambipom, Hariyama, and Hitmontop all make excellent teammates, as do the aforementioned Donphan and Cloyster. Fire-types can make the most of a lack of Rain Dance, especially Arcanine, Houndoom, and Blaziken. Pursuit trappers can trap and KO Gardevoir, so pairing Gardevoir with a Fighting-type such as Toxicroak, Hitmonlee, or the aforementioned Hariyama and Hitmontop ensures that your team can revenge kill the Pursuit trapper should it be KOed while trying to escape. As Gardevoir still has problems with Ghost-types even when using Shadow Ball, pairing it with a Pursuit user can be highly beneficial and can allow it to continue a clean sweep of the opponent's team.
