Analysis

Moves Will-O-Wisp lets Growlithe cripple physical attackers like Vullaby and Mienfoo, allowing Growlithe to wall them more effectively and reducing their danger to the rest of Growlithe's team. Morning Sun's healing is necessary for Growlithe to continue checking threats. Flare Blitz is Growlithe's best damage dealing option and prevents Growlithe from being completely unable to threaten special attackers. Wild Charge and Hidden Power Grass are options to help Growlithe's coverage. Wild Charge allows Growlithe to damage Mareanie and Vullaby more than Flare Blitz, while Hidden Power Grass does significant damage to Onix and many other Rock-types. Set Details The given defensive EVs with an Impish nature and Eviolite let Growlithe usually avoid being 2HKOed by attacks like Magnemite's Thunderbolt and standard Mienfoo's High Jump Kick. 36 Speed EVs allow Growlithe to outspeed Timburr and burn Iron Fist sets. Intimidate is Growlithe's best ability by far, allowing it to weaken physical attackers every time it comes in. Usage Tips Growlithe should attempt to spread burns using Will-O-Wisp as much as possible to support its team and help its ability to switch in. Attempt to keep Stealth Rock off the field as much as possible, as Growlithe is significantly less effective when Stealth Rock is on the field due to its weakness to the entry hazard and only decent bulk. Otherwise, Growlithe should be used liberally to counter physical attackers like Mienfoo and Timburr early- and mid-game and spread burns among the enemy team. Growlithe can also check some special attacking threats like Spritzee and Snivy that can't defeat it, though in general Growlithe should avoid taking special attacks. Above all, it is essential to keep Growlithe's HP high using Morning Sun, as it can easily be weakened to the point that it can no longer check strong physical attackers. Team Options Pokemon that remove entry hazards such as Staryu, Vullaby, and Snivy help Growlithe's longevity immensely by removing Stealth Rock. Growlithe's issues with Water- and Rock-types make Snivy a particularly good partner, since it can defeat them for Growlithe. Mienfoo also makes a good teammate for Growlithe, as it can fight the problematic Onix, while Growlithe can take on Foongus and Spritzee for Mienfoo in return. Thanks to Growlithe's Intimidate and Will-O-Wisp support, Shell Smash users like Shellder and Clamperl and other setup sweepers such as Scraggy can set up more safely, making them good teammates for Growlithe.
