Hattrem Movesets & Competitive Sets

Hattrem is the best user of Magic Bounce in ZU, carving it a niche as a unique form of entry hazard control. Psychic threatens most entry hazard setters, especially Qwilfish. Giga Drain provides coverage for Rhydon and Piloswine while providing some recovery. Rest is Hattrem's best form of recovery and lets it PP stall entry hazard setters it struggles to defeat with its offensive moves, like Stunfisk formes. Sleep Talk prevents Hattrem from being completely passive after using Rest. A physically defensive spread is preferred, as most entry hazard setters are physical attackers. Hattrem fits best on defensive teams that heavily dislike entry hazards. A secondary remover such as Articuno, Altaria, or Cramorant is required to handle entry hazard setters like Accelgor and Rhydon, which can break through Hattrem. Solid physical and special walls such as Tangela, Pyukumuku and Stunfisk are needed, as Hattrem tends to invite in wallbreakers such as Silvally formes, Shiftry, and Rotom due to its average bulk and mediocre offensive presence.

Thanks to Magic Bounce, Hattrem carves a niche in offensive teams by disrupting common entry hazard setters like Rhydon and Piloswine. Giga Drain lets it recover some health and threaten the aforementioned Ground-types. Mystical Fire allows it to damage Steel-types like Klinklang and Alolan Dugtrio, preventing them from getting a Substitute up. Nuzzle is a viable alternative to both moves, which allows Hattrem to cripple fast attackers like Accelgor, Froslass, and Thievul. Healing Wish can be used when Hattrem isn't needed anymore to fully heal a partner. This set fits better on offensive teams, especially Flying spam with partners like Unfezant, Silvally-Flying, and Butterfree that are quickly chipped by Stealth Rock and love getting a second attempt to sweep with Healing Wish. As Hattrem is quite limited as a wall, other defensive pivots like Tangela, Rhydon, and Coalossal are appreciated to take on powerful attackers; the latter is an especially great partner since it carries Rapid Spin, preventing Hattrem from getting overwhelmed. Checks to Ghost- and Dark-types like Kangaskhan, Alolan Persian, and Skuntank make also for great partners, covering Hattrem's weaknesses.

While Hattrem's main role is as an entry hazard deterrent, it can also assist its teammates with various utility moves. Giga Drain hits Marshtomp and Krokorok hard while also providing recovery, letting Hattrem avoid a 2HKO from Piloswine with the given EV spread. Mystical Fire 2HKOes Ferroseed. Knock Off users such as Gurdurr and Tangela increase Hattrem's wallbreaking prowess while also absorbing Knock Off for it; in return, Hattrem beats Koffing and Galarian Corsola. Hattrem is relatively frail without Eviolite, so slow pivots such as Charjabug and Clefairy can bring it in safely. Hattrem also benefits from the former's Sticky Web, as it is not a fast wallbreaker. Faster Pokemon such as Gastly and Morgrem easily revenge kill Hattrem with their STAB attacks, so it is important to have switch-ins like Ferroseed and Klang to deal with these Pokemon.
