Mamoswine Movesets & Competitive Sets

Icicle Crash and Earthquake are a devastatingly powerful STAB combination, easily KOing common walls like Amoonguss, Primarina, and Mandibuzz. Ice Shard can threaten many faster threats like Thundurus-T and Zarude, and it can also OHKO offensive Salamence and Zygarde-10%. Knock Off is used to punish and cripple switch-ins like Rotom-H and Rotom-W, allowing Mamoswine or another teammate to break past them more easily later. Oblivious keeps Mamoswine from having its Attack lowered by Intimidate Salamence. Thick Fat in an option that offers better protection against Rotom-H and ensures it can take a Flamethrower from Moltres. Life Orb is preferred, as it allows Mamoswine to safely 2HKO almost anything in the tier, including Celesteela and Chansey. However, Never-Melt Ice also is an option to retain a powerful Icicle Crash while not wearing itself down with Life Orb, but this comes at the cost of a much weaker Earthquake, missing out on a 2HKO on Slowking, even after Stealth Rock. An Adamant Nature maximizes Mamoswine's wallbreaking potential. Mamoswine best functions on offensive teams that provide it many opportunities to wallbreak. Late-game cleaners like Azelf appreciate Mamoswine's early-game wallbreaking and can deal with faster threats like Cobalion and Keldeo as well as walls like Skarmory. Azelf also wears down Slowking, allowing Mamoswine to break through it easier. Pivots like Zarude, Rotom-W, and Slowking lure in Grass-types like Tangrowth and Amoonguss and then pivot to Mamoswine for a more favorable matchup; Slowking in particular provides slow pivoting with Teleport to get Mamoswine in safely. Mamoswine is vulnerable to priority moves from Conkeldurr, Scizor, and Azumarill; Amoonguss can switch into most of their attacks. Entry hazard support from Cobalion and Nihilego can wear down Pokemon like Skarmory and Umbreon for Mamoswine to break past them more easily. Counterplay against Scizor is essential to keep Mamoswine from being revenge killed by Bullet Punch; the aformentioned Cobalion and Rotom-H serve as solid checks to it. Similarly, entry hazard control from Excadrill and Tentacruel can remove opposing entry hazards that would wear Mamoswine down. Primarina helps overwhelm Celesteela and Slowking for Mamoswine and takes on Keldeo.

Mamoswine being extremely prediction-reliant is ultimately one of its biggest downfalls; however, Mamoswine can circumvent this issue by using Substitute to provide a layer of defense to fall back on, as well as an immunity to status conditions. Ice Shard is useful if a foe survives a hit, as this set lacks power. Icicle Crash and Earthquake are a beautiful offensive pairing, as the majority of the metagame will be 2HKOed. Leftovers is usually the item of choice, as it will help Mamoswine heal off Substitute's recoil, but Never-Melt Ice is also useful if it needs the extra firepower. Substitute Mamoswine is best paired with Pokemon that can eliminate its most common counter, Rotom-W. Pokemon such as Breloom, Latias, Tangrowth, and Shaymin can do the job. Additionally, Pokemon that can get rid of entry hazards such as Latias, Gliscor, Scizor, and Starmie make Mamoswine's job a lot easier. Late-game cleaners such as Life Orb Scizor, Choice Band Dragonite, Swords Dance Lucario, and Feraligatr also benefit immensely from Mamoswine's wallbreaking potential. Mamoswine also appreciates Latias healing it back to full HP with Healing Wish.

Earthquake and Icicle Crash are very strong STAB moves that can take care of many slower Pokemon such as Togekiss, Heatran, and Magnezone. Ice Shard is useful for revenge killing Dragon-type threats such as Latias, Garchomp, and Dragonite while also being useful to revenge kill other Ice-weak targets such as Breloom, Gliscor, and Shaymin. Freeze-Dry is useful to deal major damage to Rotom-W on the switch in, usually making it unable to check Mamoswine again alongside Stealth Rock chip, and it is also useful for dealing with Quagsire. Stealth Rock provides good role compression, as Mamoswine can beat common Defoggers such as Gliscor and Latias. Life Orb is the preferred item, as it boosts Mamoswine's wallbreaking potential by a decent amount, although it has the drawback of recoil. Never-Melt Ice is a strong alternative, as it retains the power boost for Ice-type moves but doesn't have the drawback of recoil. Jolly is the preferred nature, as it outspeeds Jolly Feraligatr and Breloom, but an Adamant nature can be used, as Mamoswine still outspeeds threats such as Modest Heatran and bulky Gliscor while boosting priority damage. A Naive nature can be used to strengthen Freeze-Dry without much compromise. Mamoswine fits best on offensive teams, as it is able to guarantee damage on Scizor and Clefable, which can be capitalized on by Pokemon such as Feraligatr, Breloom, and Latias. Mamoswine appreciates pivots that help it get onto the battlefield such as Scizor and Rotom-W. Mamoswine capitalizes on entry hazards; as such, Stealth Rock from Garchomp or Heatran and Spikes from Roserade or Skarmory help it break more easily. Mamoswine appreciates Latias healing it back to full health with Healing Wish, as Life Orb recoil is a big weakness that Mamoswine has to deal with. Grass-types such as Rotom-C and Shaymin can cover for Mamoswine's Water weakness relatively well. Sweepers such as Feraligatr, Azumarill, Lucario, and offensive Scizor also appreciate Freeze-Dry Mamoswine, as it is able to lure in and KO Rotom-W and Slowbro, which are often their greatest counters. Rapid Spin support from Starmie can also help reduce the amount of residual damage Mamoswine takes, and in return, Starmie can force out Skarmory while removing the Spikes it sets up.

Mamoswine is an effective wallbreaker on Ice teams, as it helps pressure Fire-, Rock-, and Steel-types such as Torkoal, Tyranitar, and Heatran. Earthquake makes it a dangerous threat for Poison and Electric teams, and Icicle Crash hits Ground-immune targets like Celesteela, Zapdos, and Mantine. Ice Shard provides priority and aids in revenge killing the likes of Agility Galarian Moltres, Choice Scarf Galarian Zapdos, and Choice Scarf Thundurus-T. Superpower grants Mamoswine the ability to break past bulky Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Porygon2. Heavy Slam can be used to reliably defeat setup sweepers such as Hatterene and Clefable. Knock Off is a great utility option that allows Mamoswine to get rid of important items such as Eviolite from Chansey, Porygon2, and Piloswine as well as recovery items from Ferrothorn and Slowbro. An Adamant nature lets Mamoswine better revenge kill the aforementioned targets of Ice Shard. Kyurem appreciates Mamoswine breaking through Steel-types such as Aegislash and Melmetal, as they are able to tank Kyurem's Earth Powers quite easily. In return, Kyurem checks Rotom-W and Slowbro and is capable of PP stalling Ferrothorn's Gyro Ball and Corviknight's Body Press with Pressure. Arctozolt not only helps Mamoswine break down defensive cores used by Poison and Flying teams, but also threatens Water-types such as Pelipper, Volcanion, and Toxapex. Cloyster values Mamoswines immunity to Electric-type moves from Tapu Koko, Zapdos, and Alolan Raichu, while also setting Spikes to support Mamoswine's wallbreaking by providing chip damage against foes. Aurora Veil Alolan Ninetales allows Mamoswine to tank more hits and wallbreak for a prolonged period of time; Alolan Ninetales also checks threats such as Urshifu-R and Kommo-o. Galarian Darmanitan can use Flare Blitz to KO Ferrothorn for non-Superpower Mamoswine and also lures Ground-immune Steel-types like Corviknight and Celesteela. Mamoswine wears down bulky teams so that Weavile can sweep in the late-game, while Weavile's Speed is great for dealing with faster threats such as Volcarona, Spectrier, and Blacephalon.

Icicle Crash deals with Grass-, Flying-, and Dragon-types, allowing Mamoswine to significantly damage walls such as Amoonguss, Celesteela, and Kommo-o. Icicle Spear can be considered instead to break the Substitutes of Kyurem and Galarian Moltres, but it is less consistent than Icicle Crash. Earthquake deals with Steel- and Water-types that resist Icicle Crash such as Aegislash and Toxapex. Superpower heavily dents Pokemon that are not bothered by the first two moves, such as Porygon2, Cloyster, Air Balloon Heatran, and Ferrothorn. Knock Off may be considered over Superpower to cripple physical walls such as Slowbro, Galarian Corsola, and Rotom-W. Ice Shard allows Mamoswine to revenge kill weakened threats such as Hydreigon, Galarian Moltres, and Choice Scarf Tapu Bulu. It also lets it clean up Flying and Dragon teams late-game when their walls have been sufficiently chipped. A Choice Band allows Mamoswine to OHKO walls such as Amoonguss, Zapdos, and Toxapex with the appropriate STAB move. An Adamant nature lets Ice Shard better pick off threats such as Thundurus-T, Galarian Moltres, and Tapu Bulu. Gastrodon provides a Water immunity, can spread Toxic to wear down the opposing team, and can take special attacks aimed at Mamoswine. Alternatively, Seismitoad may be considered as the Water-immune partner, as it can check Azumarill, which usually poses a huge threat for Ground teams. Landorus-T provides Gravity support to allow Mamoswine to break through checks such as Rotom-W and Celesteela that can normally wall it. Swords Dance Garchomp can work alongside Mamoswine to break through their shared checks such as Slowbro and Kyurem when facing Psychic and Dragon teams. Nidoking deals with physical walls such as Slowbro and Ferrothorn that Mamoswine struggles with. Hippowdon can take physical attacks from Zeraora and Victini aimed at Mamoswine and can set sand and Stealth Rock to chip the opposing team further.

Mamoswine is a good wallbreaker thanks to its high Attack and functionally unresisted STAB move combination. It can 2HKO almost every Pokemon without Intimidate or Dauntless Shield, such as Tapu Fini, Swampert, and Ferrothorn. Ice Shard is a useful Ice-type priority attack that allows it to revenge kill a plethora of Pokemon like Zygarde-10% and Landorus-T, as well as weakened faster threats like Tapu Koko and Talonflame. Toxic poisons Dauntless Shield Mew and bulky Water-types like Swampert and Tapu Fini to wear them down over the course of the game, while Knock Off removes important items from its checks, notably Leftovers and Heavy-Duty Boots, to weaken them more easily. Mamoswine can break through special walls like Blissey and Jirachi with ease for special attackers such as Azelf and Zapdos. It can also break down Water-and Dragon-types like Tapu Fini and Silvally-Dragon for Cinderace, Talonflame, and other Fire-types; in return, these Fire-types can deal with Intimidate Corviknight, which would otherwise prevent Mamoswine from making progress. Dauntless Shield Mew is also another common check, so physical pivots like Cinderace and Barraskewda can help Mamoswine beat it. Special attackers such as Azelf and Volcarona force out Mamoswine, so Zapdos and Assault Vest Swampert are appreciated to tank their attacks. Revenge killers such as Cinderace and Terrakion threaten Mamoswine, so answers like Swampert, Zapdos, and Dauntless Shield Mew are all greatly appreciated. Superpower is a useful move for targeting Ferrothorn and Porygon2; however, Knock Off gets rid of items like Eviolite, Leftovers, and Heavy-Duty Boots from Pokemon such as Galarian Corsola, Porygon2, Celesteela, and Blissey. An Adamant nature paired with a Choice Band maximizes Mamoswine's damage output, letting it pick off weakened threats with Ice Shard better and have a better chance of KOing a weakened Celesteela or Corviknight. Thick Fat is the preferred ability to give Ground teams a useful resistance to Ice-type attacks. Generally, Mamoswine should be used to wallbreak types like Flying, Poison, and Dragon early-game, and it can clean weakened teams with Ice Shard late-game. Hippowdon is a great partner, as it tanks hits for Mamoswine due to its good bulk, can phaze out threatening foes like Mega Scizor and Mega Gallade with Whirlwind, and provide Stealth Rock and Sand Stream support, which gives Mamoswine an easier time sweeping late-game by racking chip damage on foes. Landorus is an essential wallbreaker, as it can not only break through physically defensive foes like Slowbro and Mega Sableye for Mamoswine, but utilize Gravity in order to make Mamoswine's Earthquake useful against threats like Celesteela, Rotom-W, and Corviknight. Gastrodon and Seismitoad can absorb Water-type attacks for Mamoswine; Gastrodon has access to reliable recovery, and Seismitoad can outspeed and threaten Azumarill as well as use its higher physical bulk to take attacks from Pokemon like Barraskewda more easily. Excadrill is a dangerous sweeper under Hippowdon's sand due to Sand Rush, which allows it to outspeed fast threats like Mega Lopunny and Terrakion for Mamoswine, and it provides Rapid Spin support while breaking past physically defensive foes like Mega Sableye, Porygon2, and Avalugg with Steelium Z and Swords Dance. Garchomp can break through most walls due to Swords Dance and Dragonium Z while weakening Celesteela with Fire Fang and providing a useful neutrality to Water- and Grass-type attacks. Mega Garchomp can destroy foes like Celesteela and Ferrothorn with Fire Blast while living an Aqua Jet from +6 Azumarill and threatening it back with a Sand Force-boosted Earthquake. Mega Steelix is a powerful bulky sweeper with Curse that can also live a hit from +6 Azumarill's Aqua Jet and threaten it back with Heavy Slam, and it also threatens other foes like Tapu Bulu and Rillaboom.

Mamoswine is an effective early game setter of Stealth Rock with Focus Sash, thanks to its good coverage and access to priority in Ice Shard. Icicle Spear is the prefered Ice-type STAB, since it breaks through Focus Sash and Mimikyu's Disguise. Oblivious blocks the effects of Intimidate and Taunt, making it Mamoswine's best ability.

Moves Ice Shard takes advantage of the tier's several faster Pokemon that are weak to Ice, letting Mamoswine revenge kill foes such as Crobat, Latias, Hydreigon, and Celebi after some chip damage. Stone Edge is an option that can OHKO Rotom-Heat and Moltres, which can both otherwise come in once and pressure Mamoswine with either powerful attacks or status. It often comes at the cost of utility or better coverage, however. Set Details Full investment in Attack with an Adamant nature maximizes Mamoswine's power, allowing it to more easily secure OHKOs on foes such as Primarina and Amoonguss and 2HKOs on the likes of Mega Aggron and Slowbro. Full investment in Speed makes it as fast as possible with a neutral nature, outrunning the majority of the metagame's defensive threats. A Jolly nature is also an option, allowing Mamoswine to outrun Timid Volcanion and Speed tie with Togekiss, Mega Altaria, and Chandelure at the cost of some power. Life Orb increases Mamoswine's overall damage output, notably allowing it to secure the 2HKO on Suicune with Earthquake. Thick Fat is the preferred ability, decreasing the damage Mamoswine takes from Fire- and Ice-type attacks that Electric-types like Mega Manectric often use to power through other Ground-types. Usage Tips Mamoswine's best use is on offensive teams as an early-game wallbreaker that can pave way for teammates to clean up later on. Ice Shard should be utilized to threaten to revenge kill the tier's several faster Pokemon that are weak to it, such as Latias, Togekiss, and Mega Aerodactyl. If the opposing team is weakened enough, Mamoswine can also try using it to clean up late-game. The decision of whether to use Icicle Crash or Earthquake to wallbreak can be tough at times, though against teams with Ground-immune Pokemon, which are often weak to Ice, Icicle Crash is often smarter to use early on. Earthquake is best to use once Ground-resistant and -immune foes are removed or weakened due to its better neutral coverage. Mamoswine forces several switches as it wallbreaks and as such should take advantage of said switches to fire off powerful STAB attacks, hit various switch-ins that tank its STAB attacks, like Rotom-Heat, with Knock Off, or set Stealth Rock if utilizing the move. Because its typing doesn't provide it with many switch-in opportunities, it's best to bring Mamoswine in via pivot support or after a teammate has fainted. However, it can come into play in a few specific scenarios, such as against passive defensive Pokemon like Klefki, Hippowdon, and Blissey and against Electric-types like Mega Manectric if it predicts carefully. Lastly, Mamoswine should capitalize on its strong matchup against defensive teams by using Knock Off to chip foes early-game, then weakening them further later on. Team Options Due to its huge offensive presence and struggle to defensively contribute to teams, Mamoswine is most comfortably fitted on offensively inclined builds. It is appreciated by setup sweepers, like Terrakion, Mega Altaria, and Doublade, thanks to its ability to weaken opposing teams for them to more easily do their job late-game. Cleaners such as Mega Sharpedo and Scizor also appreciate Mamoswine's support for this reason. Pokemon capable of providing pivot support, like Scizor, Mega Manectric, and Rotom-Heat, are capable of safely bringing Mamoswine into play. Mamoswine also appreciates teammates capable of supporting it with entry hazards, such as Cobalion and Nihilego, as chip damage allows it to more easily muscle past the likes of Alomomola and Mega Slowbro on its own. Stealth Rock support can also allow Mamoswine to more comfortably run Knock Off, its preferred coverage option. Klefki and Froslass are particularly helpful partners, as they can provide Spikes support for Mamoswine to take advantage of in addition Klefki being able to patch up its poor Speed with Thunder Wave. Adequate methods of checking faster foes, such as Choice Scarf Krookodile and Mega Aerodactyl, can help patch up Mamoswine's susceptibility to being revenge killed due to its poor Speed. Fighting-type checks like Latias, Mimikyu, and Primarina can come in on the several Fighting-types that force Mamoswine out, such as Infernape, Cobalion, and Terrakion. Lastly, due to Mamoswine's susceptibility to being worn down, it enjoys the support of Pokemon capable of removing entry hazards, such as Mega Blastoise, Starmie, and Hydreigon.

Team Options Choice Scarf Kyurem-B appreciates Mamoswine's wallbreaking giving it the chance to sweep late-game. It also checks fast threats like Mega Alakazam, Mega Charizard Y, and Keldeo. Alolan Ninetales can allow Mamoswine to switch into attacks more easily thanks to Aurora Veil while also checking Fighting-types like Keldeo and Terrakion. Mamoswine can be extra deadly when the team is worn down, so Fake Out users like Mega Kangaskhan and Scrafty, as well as residual damage from Tyranitar's Sand Stream, can do a good job of getting Pokemon in the KO range of Ice Shard. Assault Vest Ludicolo gets special mention for its Earthquake resistance, which can be handy in emergencies when Mamoswine has to use Earthquake. Always consider a Ground-immune Pokemon that can provide additional support to pair with Mamoswine, which can then use its deadly Earthquake more easily. Rotom-W can provide attack control with Will-O-Wisp and Light Screen and beat Gyarados; (semi-colon) Talonflame can provide Tailwind support and defeat Ludicolo; Salamence can soften physical attacks with Intimidate; and Mega Charizard Y can severely damage Rotom-W and Ludicolo, as well as other Mega Charizard Y if it's carrying Ancient Power.

Choice Band Icicle Crash can OHKO bulky Garchomp, 2HKO Hippowdon, and 3HKO Skarmory while fishing for flinches. Earthquake can 2HKO Slowbro after prior chip damage. STAB Ice Shard can revenge kill weakened threats and is powerful enough to OHKO Latios after Stealth Rock and break Mega Sharpedo's Substitute. Knock Off targets Psychic-types, cripples Eviolite users such as Porygon2, and deals more damage to Pokemon that switch into its STAB moves like Rotom-W. Thick Fat allows Mamoswine to deal with Ice-type attackers such as Cloyster and tank STAB moves from some Fire-type Pokemon like V-create from Victini and Fire Blast from offensive Volcarona. Mamoswine utilizes Choice Band to maximize its potential as a wallbreaker and revenge killer, becoming powerful enough to 2HKO physically defensive Swampert with Earthquake and OHKO Hawlucha with Ice Shard after Stealth Rock. Fully investing in Attack and Speed with an Adamant nature allows Mamoswine to deal as much damage as possible while outpacing Adamant Diggersby, physically defensive Staraptor, and specially defensive Jirachi. Mamoswine threatens Dragon-, Ground-, and Flying-types like Garchomp, Landorus, and Hawlucha and is one of the very few Ground-type Pokemon capable of dealing with Gliscor. Mamoswine can assist Landorus and Mega Garchomp by offensively checking Ice-types like Cloyster. It may help Excadrill by taking out weakened threats with Ice Shard and using Knock Off to cripple Eviolite users like Porygon2 and Chansey. Hippowdon can passively damage foes by setting sand and Stealth Rock and works as a switch-in to the likes of Mega Lopunny and Terrakion. Excadrill in sand can check faster threats like Kyurem-B for Mamoswine and provides a switch-in to Grass Knot from Thundurus and Heliolisk. Mega Garchomp is a Fire-resistant teammate that can check Mega Charizard Y and utilizes its mixed set to wear down walls like Rotom-W. Landorus uses its powerful special attacks to chip physical defensive walls like Skarmory and may set Gravity so that Rotom-W can no longer switch into Mamoswine. Gastrodon is immune to Water, which proves immensely useful against Pokemon like Rotom-W and Kingdra. It can also tank special attacks with its average bulk, reliable recovery, and great defensive typing while spreading status with Scald and Toxic. Seismitoad is an alternative Water-immune teammate that can check Belly Drum Azumarill.

Moves Earthquake is Mamoswine's Ground-type STAB move and hits Fire- and Steel-types super effectively. Icicle Spear, while sometimes luck-reliant, allows Mamoswine to break Focus Sashes, while Icicle Crash is a more reliable Ice-type STAB move, as it always has a set power. Ice Shard is a priority move that allows Mamoswine to somewhat mitigate its only decent Speed and pick off weakened Dragon-types as well as Landorus-T. Protect guards Mamoswine from a potential OHKO or burn. Set Details Maximum Attack EVs with an Adamant nature are used to ensure maximum damage output. Maximum Speed EVs allow Mamoswine to outrun Adamant Bisharp. Life Orb is generally the preferred item, as Mamoswine doesn't really mind the recoil too much and would much rather have boosted power. Focus Sash is an option so that Mamoswine can survive a hit, such as an Iron Head from Mega Metagross, and potentially OHKO the opposing Pokemon back. The drop in power, however, is very noticeable. Thick Fat is by far the best ability, as it weakens Ice- and Fire-type moves, which helps increase Mamoswine's ability to tank hits. Usage Tips Mamoswine has a very poor defensive typing, so it isn't recommended to switch it into moves unless the move is a weaker, non-super effective move. Mamoswine can generally switch in to weaker spread-reduced moves, such as Rock Slide. Mamoswine works great to pick off weakened Pokemon mid- and late-game. Mamoswine can also beat 4 HP Choice Scarf Landorus-T with Ice Shard if Mamoswine is given a chance to switch in. Team Options Togekiss is a great partner, as it provides redirection support and speed control, which can mitigate Mamoswine's decent, but not great, Speed. Togekiss is also immune to Ground-type moves which allows Mamoswine to use Earthquake freely. Thundurus is also a great partner, as it is immune to Earthquake, can shut down Will-O-Wisp with Taunt, can offer speed control, and can check bulky Water-types that Mamoswine has trouble breaking through. Mamoswine, in return, checks Rock-types that threaten Thundurus. Aegislash can check Cresselia, which Mamoswine also has trouble breaking through, as well as Terrakion and Mega Metagross. Aegislash can also use Wide Guard to prevent taking damage from Mamoswine's Earthquakes. Mamoswine can help check Ground- and Fire-types that threaten Aegislash, such as Landorus-T and Heatran. By far the best partner for Mamoswine is Mega Charizard Y. Mega Charizard Y has near perfect synergy with Mamoswine, as it resists all of Mamoswine's weaknesses, except for Water; however, Drought can help mitigate that weakness. Drought greatly benefits Mamoswine as it alleviates Mamoswine's weakness to Water. Mega Charizard Y's insanely powerful spread move combined with Mamoswine's power can put a lot of pressure on your opponent, as it doesn't give them many opportunities to switch in. Mamoswine checks Heatran, one of Mega Charizard Y's biggest counters, as well as Electric- and Rock-types that threaten Mega Charizard Y and Dragon-types that resist Mega Charizard Y's attacks.

Moves Earthquake works well with Mamoswine's Ice typing because it checks Fire- and Steel-types. Icicle Crash is generally preferred over Icicle Spear, as it is more reliable as well as having a chance to cause flinches. Icicle Spear is still an option to break Focus Sashes. Superpower lets Mamoswine hit Pokemon such as Mega Kangaskhan and Ferrothorn super effectively while Ice Shard lets Mamoswine pick off weakened Pokemon that are still faster than it, such as Choice Scarf Landorus-T. Rock Slide can allow Mamoswine to check Mega Charizard Y and Talonflame and provides a nice flinch chance. Alternatively, Stone Edge is a stronger option should you want a stronger Rock-type move. Set Details Maximum Attack EVs with an Adamant nature ensure the highest damage output with a Choice Scarf. Maximum Speed EVs are so that Mamoswine can function with a Choice Scarf. Choice Scarf alleviates Mamoswine's decent Speed and can allow it to outrun Pokemon that it normally cannot, including Mega Metagross and Terrakion. Usage Tips Mamoswine has mediocre bulk so it isn't recommended to switch it into attacks unless the move is a weaker non-super effective move or a weaker spread move such as Rock Slide. With a Choice Scarf, Mamoswine works sort of like a hit-and-run Pokemon, as its decent Speed boosted by a Choice Scarf can allow it to outrun and OHKO a lot of common Pokemon in the metagame, such as Terrakion. Team Options Mega Charizard Y is a great partner for Mamoswine, as it has near perfect synergy, resisting all of Mamoswine's weaknesses except for Water; however, Water-type attacks will have lowered power under Drought. Mega Charizard Y's powerful spread move combined with Mamoswine's power can put a lot of pressure on your opponents, as it doesn't give them many opportunities to switch in. Mamoswine checks Heatran, one of Mega Charizard Y's biggest counters, as well as Electric- and Rock-types that threaten Mega Charizard Y. Mamoswine also checks Dragon-types that resists Mega Charizard Y's attacks. Aegislash is also a great partner, as it can check Cresselia, which Mamoswine has trouble breaking through. With a Choice Scarf, Mamoswine can check both Metagross and Terrakion with Earthquake so Aegislash isn't pressured to check as much. Aegislash can use Wide Guard to prevent taking any damage from Mamoswine's Earthquakes. Mamoswine checks Ground- and Fire-types that threaten Aegislash, mainly Landorus-T and Heatran. Virizion pairs really well with Choice Scarf Mamoswine, as Virizion benefits greatly from Mamoswine's ability to remove Thundurus and Zapdos. Virizion helps Mamoswine by checking Rotom-W, a major Mamoswine counter, as well as Ferrothorn and Mega Kangaskhan, so that Mamoswine doesn't have to rely on Superpower to hit them. Speed control isn't needed much for Choice Scarf Mamoswine, but redirection is greatly appreciated. Amoonguss works well to redirect attacks aimed at Mamoswine as it resists three of the five types that Mamoswine is weak to. The other two types, Fire and Steel, can be checked through Mamoswine's Earthquake. Amoonguss can also provide sleep support which greatly benefits Mamoswine, allowing it to wreak havoc without worrying about one of your opponent's Pokemon.

Moves Earthquake is Mamoswine's strongest STAB move and hits many common Pokemon super effectively, such as Aegislash and Mega Gengar. Ice Shard is a fantastic move for picking off weakened foes that would outspeed Mamoswine otherwise. Icicle Spear is very useful for breaking through Substitute and Focus Sash, giving Mamoswine an edge over other Focus Sash leads such as Breloom and Garchomp. Stealth Rock is useful for getting some chip damage on Pokemon, and with Focus Sash, Mamoswine can reliably set it if you need it to. Endeavor is a nice option to heavily cripple something after Mamoswine has been brought down to its Focus Sash. Fissure can be used to deal with some defensive Pokemon that are tough for Mamoswine to break through, and although the low accuracy might seem like a big risk, Focus Sash guarantees it'll have at least two attempts to hit, which is about a 50% chance. Set Details Maximum Attack and Speed investment is preferred, as with Focus Sash investing in bulk isn't necessary. Maximum Speed is important to ensure Mamoswine outspeeds Breloom and takes it out with Icicle Spear. Focus Sash makes Mamoswine a great lead and revenge killer, able to take big hits and retaliate with its own. Thick Fat increases Mamoswine's defensive capabilities, helping it take the popular BoltBeam combination often used on Pokemon such as Thundurus and Zapdos. Usage Tips Mamoswine is a very nice lead thanks to Focus Sash and can reliably set up Stealth Rock if necessary. With Focus Sash, dealing with Mamoswine is rather troublesome, as it can survive most hits and attack back with its strong STAB and priority moves. Common leads for Mamoswine to take on include Garchomp and Breloom, though Icicle Spear won't be able to KO Breloom with only two hits. However, since Mamoswine is such a common lead, leading with something to beat Mamoswine checks can be an effective way to punish your opponent. It also works as a good revenge killer, and it does especially well against common sweepers such as Mega Salamence, Garchomp, and Blaziken. It can survive strong attacks and attempt to OHKO back or 2HKO with help from Ice Shard. Mamoswine also works great as a Thundurus check, as it is able to switch into Thunder Wave and other common attacks from Thundurus. Pokemon that are terrified of Talonflame appreciate having the Stealth Rock that Mamoswine can provide. Serperior, for example, has an easy time with Talonflame weakened or taken out and can deal with Rotom-W for Mamoswine. Team Options Mamoswine's reliability as a Stealth Rock setter and Thundurus check makes it a beneficial teammate for setup sweepers. Most setup sweepers really appreciate the chip damage from Stealth Rock and Mamoswine's ability to switch into Thunder Wave fairly easily. Pokemon such as Mega Salamence, Mega Charizard X, and Blaziken all appreciate having Mamoswine on their team. Thundurus can deal with bulky Water-types that Mamoswine often struggles with and can also provide Thunder Wave support to make up for Mamoswine's below-average Speed tier. Talonflame appreciates Mamoswine as a teammate because it can deal with Pokemon that often give Talonflame trouble, such as Thundurus, Garchomp, and Landorus-T.

Knock Off is a nice option for removing items such as Sitrus Berry to prevent recovery and crippling Pokemon relying on items such as Eviolite and Choice Scarf. Rock Tomb can be useful for hitting Talonflame, which can wall Mamoswine quite well otherwise. It also lowers Speed, which can be especially nice when you predict something faster to switch in. Set Details An Adamant nature is used so that Mamoswine still has a good offensive presence. The HP EVs minimize residual damage. Maximum Special Defense investment is used to increase the utility of Assault Vest as much as possible. The Speed investment is enough for Mamoswine to outspeed most Suicune variants. The remaining EVs are all put into Attack to increase Mamoswine's damage output. Assault Vest, most importantly, helps Mamoswine take on Electric-types such as Thundurus very well. It's also very nice against other special attackers such as Porygon2, Aegislash, and Heatran. Usage Tips Mamoswine works as a great answer to Thundurus, as it is immune to Thunderbolt and resists Hidden Power Ice, Thundurus's most common moves. The only moves it has to watch out for are Focus Blast and Grass Knot, but thanks to Assault Vest, it can survive both. Mamoswine can take on a lot of defensive Pokemon very well with Fissure. Assault Vest allows Mamoswine to take a lot of attacks from Pokemon such as Porygon2 and even defensive Suicune, granting it more turns to attempt to hit Fissure. It can revenge kill a good number of Pokemon in the metagame thanks to its nice STAB coverage, such as Garchomp, Landorus-T, Mega Salamence, Raikou, and weakened Aegislash. Mamoswine can switch in against most special attackers, but its physical bulk isn't very impressive and thus it shouldn't switch directly in to most physical attacks. Team Options Mamoswine is a nice partner for Mega Salamence, as it can consistently switch into Thundurus thanks to the Special Defense boost from Assault Vest. With Assault Vest, Mamoswine can often deal with Pokemon that would normally take it on easily, such as Suicune and Porygon2, and removing them via Fissure at them is very beneficial to offensive Pokemon such as Blaziken, Mega Kangaskhan and Talonflame. Suicune appreciates Mamoswine's ability to consistently switch into Electric-types, and if holding a Rocky Helmet, Suicune can handle Mega Kangaskhan, which Mamoswine normally struggles against. Serperior can deal with Water-types such as Rotom-W that Mamoswine struggles with and can paralyze fast threats so Mamoswine can outspeed them. Mamoswine also handles Thundurus well, making things much easier for Serperior. Mega Gengar can trap and beat some Pokemon that threaten Mamoswine such as Mega Kangaskhan and Cresselia.

Icicle Spear is useful for breaking Focus Sash and Substitutes. Superpower offers nice coverage on Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Mega Kangaskhan, and other Mamoswine. Alternatively, Rock Slide OHKOes Talonflame and Mega Charizard Y, which are hard for Mamoswine to take on otherwise. Fissure can be used when you predict defensive Pokemon such as Porygon2 and Suicune to switch in. It can also be used as a last-resort attack in a pinch. Knock Off can be used as it offers nice utility, removing your foe's item. Ice Shard can be useful in situations against priority users. Set Details Maximum Speed investment is important to outspeed Mega Gengar and Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T. The remaining EVs are used in Attack to allow Mamoswine to do as much damage as possible. Choice Scarf allows Mamoswine to outspeed many Pokemon it wouldn't otherwise, such as Mega Gengar, Serperior, Thundurus, and Greninja, to name a few. Thick Fat gives Mamoswine a resistance to Ice, which is especially valuable when taking on Thundurus. Usage Tips With Choice Scarf, Mamoswine is a good surprise revenge killer against Pokemon such as Mega Gengar and Garchomp. It is a great answer to Thundurus and can outspeed variants carrying Focus Blast that might expect to outspeed and KO it. This set is less bulky than other variants and doesn't have Focus Sash to make up for that, so it should be very wary when switching into most Pokemon. Hiding the fact that Mamoswine is carrying Choice Scarf can help gain an advantage, as can bringing in Mamoswine against naturally slower Pokemon such as Breloom and then surprising your opponent by outspeeding a faster Pokemon later in the game. Team Options Mamoswine works well on teams that are quite slow and need something fast to outspeed most of the metagame, and it's an especially good choice if you need something to deal with Pokemon such as Thundurus, Garchomp, and Mega Salamence. Thundurus is a good partner to help deal with bulky Water-types that Mamoswine will struggle with. Mega Salamence appreciates Mamoswine's ability to switch into Thundurus and outspeed and OHKO it.

Knock Off offers nice utility in taking out the foe's item which will often be crucial to their game plan. Rock Tomb allows Mamoswine to hit Talonflame, and the Speed drops might be useful. Fissure helps Mamoswine take out some defensive Pokemon that aren't bothered as much by Toxic, such as Rest Suicune and Chansey with Natural Cure. Set Details An Impish nature with maximum investment in HP and Defense is used to take on strong attackers like Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Salamence. Maximum investment is needed to ensure the best chance of surviving a Double-Edge from +1 Mega Salamence. Rocky Helmet allows Mamoswine get a lot of damage on Mega Kangaskhan because of Parental Bond and other Pokemon with recoil moves such as Blaziken, Mega Salamence, and Talonflame. Thick Fat helps Mamoswine easily take Ice-type attacks, making it a very consistent switch-in to Electric-types such as Thundurus. Usage Tips If you need a Pokemon that can deal with physical attackers like Mega Salamence and Kangaskhan but also need a Thundurus check, Rocky Helmet Mamoswine is a good option. Mamoswine can withstand Fake Out and Double Edge from Mega Kangaskhan and take it out with Earthquake after Rocky Helmet damage. However, Mamoswine often should not be switched directly into Kangaskhan because it can be 2HKOed. Mamoswine should come into Kangaskhan on a free switch if possible. It can be used to switch into Thundurus, so that teammates such as Mega Salamence and Blaziken aren't crippled by Thunder Wave. Mamoswine can also be used as a dedicated counter to Garchomp and Landorus-T, being able to take their hits and dish out 4x super effective damage back. Team Options Blaziken especially appreciates bulky Mamoswine as a partner. With the defensive investment, Mamoswine can take on some big checks to Blaziken such as Landorus-T, Mega Salamence, and Thundurus. Mamoswine also lures in Cresselia and can wear it down with Toxic, making it easier for Blaziken to deal with. Stealth Rock support is also very beneficial for getting chip damage and breaking Focus Sash to up a successful sweep for Blaziken. Mega Salamence appreciates Mamoswine's ability to take on Thundurus and wear down Pokemon such as Rotom-W and Cresselia with Toxic. Thundurus is a nice teammate to deal with bulky Water-types such as Suicune that Mamoswine has trouble dealing with. Mamoswine can also deal with Choice Scarf Ground-types such as Garchomp and Landorus-T, both of which can can threaten Thundurus with Stone Edge.

Mamoswine is quite powerful, and has the ability to 2HKO basically everything in the tier, save for its two hard counters. A reliable physical Ice STAB is what really gives Mamoswine its niche, however, as it allows it to 2HKO common physical walls such as Giratina, Groudon, and Lugia with Stealth Rock support. Its other STAB is not forgotten though. Ground is an amazing STAB that lets Mamoswine send Steel-types that aren't immune to it running. Even Ferrothorn is 2HKOed by it, despite its great defensive prowess. Icicle Crash is really what gives Mamoswine its niche--not many Pokemon have a powerful physical Ice-type move. Earthquake is raw power, and can tear through most neutral targets that resist Icicle Crash. Ice Shard is a powerful, and extremely useful, priority move. In a tier where Dragon-type Pokemon run rampant, Ice Shard finds itself many uses. Ice Shard OHKOes Rayquaza, Garchomp, and Shaymin-S, and does a truckload to most Dragon-type Pokemon. The last slot is a bit of a filler, but it can be useful. Mamoswine will often cause an obvious switch, and you will need to predict what switches in to safely 2HKO it. Substitute can ease this kind of prediction and make Mamoswine's life easier, but it will make Mamoswine die even faster to hazards and Life Orb recoil. Stealth Rock can go in the final slot if your team is desperate for a Stealth Rock user, but there are far better users of the move. Here are some calculations to show just how powerful Mamoswine is, and show how much it appreciates Stealth Rock: Icicle Crash vs. 252/252+ Groudon 55.4% - 65.8% Icicle Crash vs. 252/252+ Lugia 56.7% - 67.8% Ice Shard vs. 252/252+ Lugia 27.4% - 32.2% Icicle Crash vs. 248/248+ Giratina 50.5% - 59.6% Icicle Crash vs. 0/0 Giratina-O 90.2% - 106.6% Icicle Crash vs. 248/0 Ho-Oh 52% - 61.7% Earthquake vs. 252/0 Dialga 98.5% - 116.3% Earthquake vs. 252/0 +1 Dialga 65.8% - 77.7% Earthquake vs. 4/0 Kyogre 74.6% - 88% Ice Shard vs. 4/0 Kyogre 14.9% - 17.5% Earthquake vs. 252/0 Arceus-Steel 89.6% - 105.9% Earthquake vs. 252/0 Ferrothorn 52.8% - 62.2% Ice Shard vs. 4/0 Rayquaza 115.9% - 137.5% Ice Shard vs. 4/0 Garchomp 110.6% - 130.7% Ice Shard vs. 4/0 Shaymin-S 138% - 164.9% As you can see, Stealth Rock is necessary to secure a few important KOs. Mamoswine is not that reliable of a Stealth Rock user, so it is wise to carry one, such as Dialga or Groudon. It may seem odd to use Adamant and max Speed, but both are necessary. The max Speed allows it to outspeed base 90 Speed Pokemon that do not invest heavily. If they do invest heavily, they will likely use a Speed-boosting nature, in which case Jolly would not help anyways. Adamant's power is also necessary to score key 2HKOes against defensive Pokemon such as Ferrothorn. It may be tempting to use Expert Belt to lessen the passive damage Mamoswine takes, but it really needs that extra power, especially against Pokemon like the aforementioned Ferrothorn, where it has to rely on raw power to muscle through. Stone Edge may be a bit tempting to use, but notice the Icicle Crash calculation vs. Ho-Oh--it is most likely dying, making Stone Edge highly unnecessary. Paralysis support is also something to consider when using Mamoswine, as it is on the slow side, so luring in and paralyzing the Pokemon that can cause it trouble can really give it the edge to push through the opposing team. Kyogre, Jirachi, and Ferrothorn all excel in spreading paralysis. Zekrom makes a great partner to Mamoswine, as it can decimate Pokemon like Skarmory, Kyogre, and Bronzong that would otherwise give Mamoswine a hard time. Mamoswine can also take down Groudon for Zekrom while it resists a good portion of Mamoswine's weaknesses, giving it something to switch in on. When using Mamoswine, it is good to have Pokemon that can switch into the likes of Kyogre. Palkia fits the bill, and can also, depending on the weather, incinerate and electrify Skarmory and Bronzong. Mamoswine can also use teammates that lure Electric-type attacks for it to switch in on. Kyogre is one of such Pokemon, and it can also drown Skarmory and Bronzong with Surf or Water Spout. If you really hate the oft-repeated Steel-type duo that give Mamoswine trouble, you can use Magnezone to send them packing. Finally, a teammate with Rapid Spin can help Mamoswine, as it is vulnerable to all forms of hazards. Forretress and Tentacruel are examples of Pokemon that can work well in Ubers and provide Rapid Spin support, in addition to other useful support options.

This set is intended to be a standard physical attacker, hitting as hard as possible before dying. Mamoswine's brilliant dual STAB makes it practically unwallable and hits a multitude of common Pokemon for super effective damage. Earthquake and Icicle Crash have almost perfect coverage together, with Icicle Crash OHKOing almost everything that resists Earthquake. Ice Shard allows Mamoswine to pick off weakened opponents, and can even nab some OHKOs. Protect allows Mamoswine to avoid damage for a turn, and can be used to stall out opposing Trick Room and Tailwind. Icicle Spear is only 8.3% less powerful on average than Icicle Crash, and breaks through Substitutes (which is especially useful against Prankster users such as Thundurus), Focus Sashes, and resist Berries, making it a viable alternative to Icicle Crash. Mamoswine can effectively use a multitude of different items as well. Ice Gem is preferred, nabbing an OHKO on 4 HP Thundurus with Ice Shard and giving Mamoswine a very powerful single-target attack which does a ton of damage to Abomasnow and other bulky Grass-types. However, Life Orb boosts all of Mamoswine's attacks, whereas Focus Sash allows Mamoswine to abuse its immunity to both hail and sandstorm to bypass its multitude of weaknesses and average defenses. The EV spread is flexible; because Mamoswine can work with such a large number of team archetypes, it can alter its Speed stat to suit whatever sort of team it's on, and rather than use 252 Speed EVs, Mamoswine can invest a bit in HP or its defenses to let it take a few more hits. Good partners for Mamoswine are those that allow it to get around its Speed problem, and can either boost its power or complement its STAB Earthquake while being able to take out the Pokemon that threaten Mamoswine. Fighting-type opponents can take out Mamoswine with their STAB attacks, so a Flying-type Pokemon makes an excellent partner. Zapdos, Rotom-W, and Thundurus in particular have excellent synergy with Mamoswine, thanks to their Earthquake immunities, access to either Thunder Wave or Tailwind to slow down threats to Mamoswine, and their ability to take out fast Flying-types that are immune to Mamoswine's Earthquake. Zapdos can also take out Ferrothorn with Heat Wave, a Pokemon which would otherwise easily OHKO Mamoswine with Power Whip. Aerodactyl deserves a special mention as a partner for Mamoswine, as it is immune to Earthquake, can set up Tailwind, and has Unnerve to nullify any Yache or Shuca Berries the opponent may have. If being used on a Trick Room team, good partners for Mamoswine include Musharna and Cresselia, thanks to their immunities to Earthquake, access to Trick Room, ability to boost Mamoswine's moves with Helping Hand, and access to STAB Psychic to take out Hitmontop and other Fighting-types that may threaten Mamoswine.

Icicle Spear is chosen over Icicle Crash for its reliability and generally higher damage output, especially when it hits four or five times. In addition, its multi-hit nature circumvents Focus Sash and Yache Berry, which are commonly held by Landorus-T. Ice Shard lets Mamoswine pick up KOs on low-HP Pokemon, which can help Icicle Spear htis only two times. Choice Scarf sets should drop Protect for a coverage move such as Rock Slide and can consider dropping Ice Shard for Icicle Crash for the flinch chance. Other Options A bulky Choice Scarf variant with the EV spread 124 HP / 44 Atk / 100 Def / 44 SpD / 196 Spe was used to win Worlds in 2013, chosen to swiftly eliminate threats like Thundurus and Heatran, which threatened the Tornadus and Latios on the winner's team, while maximizing Mamoswine's good natural bulk. Defensively, this spread lets Mamoswine survive a Superpower from Adamant Scarf Landorus-T and any non-Gem-boosted attack from Timid Latios, and it almost always survives an Overheat from Timid Volcarona. The 44 Attack EVs are still enough to OHKO Thundurus, Latios, and Landorus-T with Icicle Crash, and Heatran with Earthquake. Endeavor synergizes with Focus Sash to bring targets that Mamoswine otherwise could not threaten, such as Suicune and Rotom-Wash, down to 1 HP. Substitute can let Mamoswine exploit its ability to force switches to better position itself against an incoming threat. Common Partners Thundurus makes an excellent partner for Mamoswine, threatening the bulky Water-types that can wall Mamoswine and potentially threatening Fighting-types with Hidden Power Flying. Strong attackers like Latios and Tornadus cover several of Mamoswine's weaknesses to common Pokemon by muscling through its threats. For example, both are capable of swiftly dealing with Conkeldurr, and Latios greatly threatens bulky Water-types. Checks and Counters Bulky Water-types, especially Rotom-Wash, resist Mamoswine's Ice-type attacks; take negligible damage from or, in Rotom-Wash's case, are immune to Earthquake; and can easily dispose of Mamoswine with their STAB moves. Conkeldurr deals significant damage with Mach Punch, OHKOes Mamoswine with its other Fighting-type STAB moves, and is more than bulky enough to shrug off Mamoswine's attacks. A Choice Scarf Mamoswine locked into one of its STAB moves can find itself in a position punishable by several Pokemon it would otherwise threaten, such as Heatran, Metagross, and Landorus-T.

Mamoswine is a physical attacker whose typing and offensive coverage grant it nifty role compression in that it checks numerous Steel-types and matches up well against Landorus-T and Thundurus. However, its middling Speed tier, numerous weaknesses against common attacking types, and offensive shortcomings in its lack of damage and susceptibility to Intimidate leave it as a very niche Pokemon in the metagame, one that is often better replaced by Kyurem-B or Landorus-T. Icicle Crash OHKOes Landorus-T, Thundurus, and Latios. Icicle Spear is an option to OHKO Focus Sash Landorus-T but is less consistent against Thundurus and Latios, as it requires 3 hits to OHKO them. Earthquake OHKOes Heatran and 2HKOes Metagross and Tyranitar. Ice Shard gets around Mamoswine's mediocre Speed tier to hit Landorus-T and Latios first, 2HKOing them and circumventing Focus Sash Landorus-T, while Stealth Rock grants it some utility and chips foes to get them in KO range of its teammates' attacks. Focus Sash allows Mamoswine to guarantee a damage trade one time and is especially useful for Mamoswine as it isn't affected by sand and hail damage. Other options include Superpower to OHKO Tyranitar without Chople Berry. Mamoswine can also run Choice Scarf, which circumvents its mediocre Speed by outspeeding and OHKOing Latios, and it matches up even better into Landorus-T and Thundurus. Mamoswine does poorly into Jellicent, which can use Will-O-Wisp and Recover against it, and rain, so support from Tyranitar, Thundurus, and powerful Dragon-types is appreciated. Thundurus also mitigates Mamoswine's mediocre Speed tier by using Thunder Wave against faster foes such as Latios and Kingdra. Support from strong Dragon-types such as Dragon Gem Latios also helps put other foes in range of Mamoswine's middling attacks. Heatran is a good teammate because it deals with Metagross, which outtrades Mamoswine despite Earthquake, and non-Ground-weak Steel-types in Ferrothorn, Scizor, and Genesect. Conkeldurr also deals with Ferrothorn and hits Kyurem-B and Excadrill, who beat Mamoswine. All of the aforementioned teammates greatly appreciate Mamoswine's ability to beat the ubiquitous Landorus-T and Thundurus. Teammates like Genesect and Metagross that can remove Cresselia quickly are necessary, as it walls Mamoswine.

Mamoswine can also act as a dedicated Stealth Rock lead. Thanks to its typing, Mamoswine's Focus Sash will not be broken by neither sandstorm nor hail, meaning that Mamoswine is practically guaranteed to both set up Stealth Rock and bring down an opponent slower than itself with the combination of Ice Shard and Endeavour. Stealth Rock is an excellent entry hazard that helps keep threatening Pokemon such as Chandelure, Dragonite, and Volcarona in check. Endeavor should be used against slower opponents that attack Mamoswine on the turn that it sets up Stealth Rock, bringing Mamoswine down to 1 HP, should its Focus Sash be activated. Ice Shard can then knock the opponent out before it can attack Mamoswine again, and Earthquake is an excellent STAB move to use if Mamoswine survives the first few turns of the battle. The EVs are once again very simple. Mamoswine only needs to maximize its Attack and its Speed, and the remaining 4 EVs are placed into HP. A Jolly nature is recommended so that Mamoswine can sometimes squeeze off an extra attack against a slower opponent. An Adamant nature is, however, still an option, since its attacks are noticeably weaker without an item to boost them. Focus Sash guarantees that Mamoswine will be able to set up Stealth Rock should it not be Taunted, meaning that Mamoswine will be able to bring its opponent down to 1 HP as well with Endeavor. One of the most efficient ways to prevent Mamoswine from setting up Stealth Rock is to use Fake Out and then hit it with a powerful super effective move, so Ghost-types such as Chandelure make excellent partners, preventing Pokemon such as Mienshao and Ambipom from ruining Mamoswine's day. They also spinblock, ensuring that Mamoswine's Stealth Rock stays up for the duration of the match.

This is the most straightforward and immediately threatening set that Mamoswine can run. Ice Shard is the main move on this set due to its sheer utility. A massive number of common Pokemon in the Dream World metagame are weak to it, including Garchomp, Dragonite, Salamence, Landorus, Thundurus, and Latios. Mamoswine can pick all of these Pokemon off at leisure, making it an excellent addition to teams that struggle with these fast and powerful offensive juggernauts. Icicle Crash is Mamoswine's secondary Ice-type move and is an excellent move to use against predicted switch-ins or Pokemon slower than Mamoswine or that can tank an Ice Shard such as Gliscor. Earthquake is Mamoswine's most powerful move, and it can comfortably 2HKO common switch ins such as Ferrothorn and Politoed. Stone Edge is the preferred move in the last slot, as it hits Pokemon such as Gyarados much harder than any of its other moves. Superpower is an alternative move that can work, hitting Blissey, Rotom-W, and Bronzong harder than any of Mamoswine's other moves, but it is sadly illegal with Thick Fat, meaning that one would have to resort to Snow Cloak, a far less useful ability. The EVs are very simple: maximized Attack and Speed let Mamoswine hit as hard and as fast as possible, while the remaining 4 EVs are dumped into HP. An Adamant nature is chosen in order to achieve a stronger Ice Shard, Mamoswine's main move, but Jolly can be used to Speed tie with other positive natured base 80s and neutral base 90s, such as Lucario. It also allows Mamoswine to always outspeed Heatran. Life Orb is the recommended item, giving Mamoswine the freedom to switch moves. Choice Band gives more power, but being locked into Earthquake is generally a bad idea due to the sheer amount of Pokemon immune to it and the introduction of Air Balloon. Stealth Rock is an alternative move choice for the last slot because Mamoswine can often rely solely on its STAB moves in order to achieve victory, and Stealth Rock provides great team support for offensive teams. However, Mamosine is neither particularly sturdy nor fast, meaning that it will often have to sacrifice itself in order to lay down the entry hazard. Icicle Spear is also a perfectly viable option as a secondary STAB Ice-type move, because it allows Mamoswine to break through Substitute and neutralize Dragonite's Multiscale while also having a potentially higher base power than Icicle Crash and perfect accuracy. Icicle Crash's reliable power is generally preferred however, since unless Icicle Spear hits four or more times in a row, it will end up doing less damage than Icicle Crash. Despite its power, Mamoswine has trouble breaking through tough physical walls such as Skarmory and Bronzong. Therefore, trappers such as Chandelure and Magnezone make excellent teammates for Mamoswine. Pokemon that can benefit from Mamoswine's ability to crush Dragon-types and bring down Pokemon such as Scarfed Landorus are also highly efficient partners. Volcarona is a prime example of this, as it also benefits from Mamoswine's ability to break through Blissey. Gyarados can come in on many things that give Mamoswine trouble, and vice versa. Pursuit users, such as Tyranitar, are also very useful teammates due to the fact that they can remove opposing Chandelure from the game. Chandelure can be extremely irritating to Mamoswine if it comes in on an Ice Shard, since it can then trap Mamoswine and proceed to nuke it with Fire Blast or Energy Ball.

Mamoswine can set Stealth Rock up against every common lead bar Darkrai. Earthquake is its main STAB move, whilst Ice Shard finishes off weakened foes, particularly ones who rely on Focus Sash, and destroys Shaymin-S, who troubles most other suicide leads. After setting up Stealth Rock, Mamoswine should use Endeavour against slower leads, like Dialga and Kyogre, to bring their HP down, often to 1 HP thanks to Mamoswine's subpar Special Defense and exploitable weaknesses. These foes can then be easily finished off by a teammate. Adamant is the preferred nature; even without a Speed-boosting nature, Mamoswine outruns the many base 90 Speed Uber leads, such as Groudon, Dialga, and non-Choiced Kyogre, as they rarely choose to invest in their own Speed. However, Uber Pokemon who invest in Speed will usually use 252 EVs, bar some Speed creep, and therefore outspeed even Jolly Mamoswine. There aren't any significant Pokemon a Jolly nature will outspeed. The extra power provided by Adamant outweighs getting the Speed jump on Pokemon rarely seen in Ubers, such as Adamant Heracross and positive natured Heatran. A Defense reducing nature and 0 IVs in HP and both Defenses is an option, but they don't help against the common Uber leads, and the extra durability is generally more useful. A sleep absorber is needed to take Darkrai's Dark Void; otherwise, you risk having a Pokemon put out of commission for the entire match. Sleep Talk Kyogre and Heracross, and Choice Scarf Primeape can switch into Dark Void and threaten to OHKO Darkrai. Deoxys-A can set up Stealth Rock, take Mamoswine down to 1 HP, and finish it off with a priority move. Mamoswine can do the same to it, but Deoxys-A wins the matchup thanks to its superior Speed. Lead Rayquaza will keep its Focus Sash should you decide to set up Stealth Rock, KOing Mamoswine with the combination of Draco Meteor or Fire Blast followed by Extreme Speed. Tyranitar is a great teammate; after removing Deoxys-A's Focus Sash with one of Mamoswine's moves, Tyranitar can easily switch into the incoming Extreme Speed, shrug it off, and finish it off with sandstorm's residual damage. As a plus, Mamoswine won't lose its Focus Sash to sandstorm, unlike most other Uber leads. Scizor or Choice Scarf Dialga can replace Tyranitar, though they'll have to take two Extreme Speeds. Abomasnow can activate Mamoswine's Snow Cloak ability whilst finishing off Deoxys-A's Focus Sash thanks to hail, but it can't take Extreme Speed nearly as well as Tyranitar, and usually can't just be thrown onto a team without support. Opposing Forretress can remove Stealth Rock and Mamoswine's Focus Sash with Rapid Spin whilst setting up its own entry hazards. Forretress is only 3HKOed or 4HKOed by Earthquake depending on the damage rolls, thanks to Leftovers recovery. Any Pokemon with a Fire-type attack will fry the bagworm. Groudon with Overheat gets a special mention, because Drought removes the rain that would otherwise patch up Forretress's one weakness.
