Analysis

Set Details Volt Switch allows Raikou to keep up momentum against and chip common switch-ins like Tsareena, Altaria, and Wo-Chien. Scald hits Electric-immune foes like Flygon, Swampert, and Kilowattrel while threatening with burns. Shadow Ball, often boosted by Tera Ghost, has solid neutral coverage, but Thunderbolt can provide a strong STAB attack that doesn't force Raikou to leave the field and, consequently, lose its Calm Mind boosts. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Raikou to pivot in and out more freely without concerns about entry hazards, while Leftovers grants longevity and better supports Substitute sets. Beyond boosting Shadow Ball, Tera Ghost also gives it an immunity to Fighting-type attacks from foes like Infernape, Heracross, and Scyther. Tera Flying offers a similar beneficial Fighting resistance as well as a Ground immunity to help against Flygon. Raikou benefits from teammates that can switch into Ground-type attacks from foes that wall it, like Flygon and Swampert. As a result, teammates that can take advantage of Ground-types, such as Swords Dance Decidueye, Trailblaze Scyther, and Iron Defense Bronzong support it well. Particularly on sets that pivot with Volt Switch, entry hazard-setting teammates like Gligar, Diancie, and Gastrodon can help it wear down opposing walls, along with Knock Off users like Incineroar and Alolan Muk to remove Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers. Pivoting teammates like Flamigo, Flygon, and Basculegion-M can help bring Raikou in and weaken foes like Vaporeon and Avalugg. Other special attackers like Toxtricity, Uxie, and Munkidori can also help Raikou overload special walls like Gastrodon, Copperajah, and Alolan Muk. On non-Heavy-Duty Boots sets, hazard removal from teammates such as Tsareena and Avalugg can help Raikou pivot in and out more freely.
