Ribombee Movesets & Competitive Sets

Set Details Ribombee is an effective Sticky Web lead, enabling slower setup sweepers such as Toxtricity, Gallade, and Feraligatr. Stun Spore can cripple foes that want to set up against Ribombee, such as Bisharp and Kleavor. Psychic Noise deals with Poison-types such as Amoonguss very effectively while also making sure that Ribombee cannot be used as setup fodder by bulky Pokemon such as Calm Mind Reuniclus and Calm Mind Slowbro. Focus Sash ensures Ribombee can get off Sticky Web and lets it have a chance to use a second move in order to further cripple the foe. Shield Dust ensures that Ribombee isn't affected by the secondary effects of moves such as Iron Head from Choice Scarf Jirachi in order to reliably get up Sticky Web. Tera Ghost allows Ribombee to act as a temporary spinblocker if needed against Cyclizar and Forretress. Ribombee fits best on hyper offense teams, where it can lead off games in order to get off Sticky Webs. Ghost-type partners such as Basculegion-F and Mimikyu pair well with Ribombee, as they can spinblock for it and stop Sticky Web from being removed. Defiant Bisharp pairs well with Ribombee, as it can punish Defog attempts from Noivern. Slow, strong wallbreakers such as Gallade, Toxtricity, and Breloom love Ribombee's Sticky Web, as they can use it to outspeed faster foes they might otherwise struggle with such as Maushold and Krookodile.

Ribombee is the premier Sticky Web setter for Bug teams thanks to its high Speed, access to further utility in Stun Spore, and Shield Dust letting it always get Sticky Web up against threats such as Choice Scarf Sneasler without worrying about status conditions. Moonblast allows Ribombee to hit Dark- and Fighting-types such as Darkrai and Great Tusk, which can either outspeed Ribombee or remove Sticky Web thanks to Rapid Spin. Stun Spore allows Ribombee to annoy threats such as Flutter Mane and Choice Scarf Heatran, letting its teammates outspeed and remove said foes later on in the game. Quiver Dance allows Ribombee to exert pressure throughout a game while potentially turning it into a win condition in the Dragon and Fighting matchups if it is not needed as a lead. Focus Sash lets Ribombee get Sticky Web up as a lead without having to fear being OHKOed due to its poor bulk. Choice Scarf Kleavor is an excellent teammate for Ribombee, as it appreciates being able to outspeed nearly everything in the metagame under Sticky Web, including opposing Choice Scarf users such as Roaring Moon and Meowscarada. It also appreciates Ribombee hitting Fighting-types, such as Iron Hands and Iron Valiant, with Moonblast, allowing it to spam Stone Axe late-game to clean up weakened teams. In return, Kleavor threatens Fire-types like Moltres that Bug teams struggle to break through. It also compounds with Ribombee's entry hazard pressure thanks to Stone Axe setting Stealth Rock. Swords Dance Scizor is another good teammate for Ribombee, as it appreciates being able to hit normally-faster threats that don't mind Bullet Punch, like Heatran and Urshifu-R, hard thanks to Sticky Web not forcing it to rely on Bullet Punch for damage. In compensation, Scizor uses its Poison immunity to come in on threats such as Choice Scarf Sneasler that would otherwise threaten Ribombee and use them as a setup opportunity. It also removes Hatterene, which is invaluable to let Ribombee set up Sticky Web. Slither Wing is another great teammate, as it removes common Steel-types such as Hisuian Goodra and Empoleon that Ribombee wouldn't be able to do much against. Volcarona benefits greatly from Sticky Web, as after one Quiver Dance, it outspeeds Choice Scarf users that would otherwise attempt to revenge kill it, such as Roaring Moon and Urshifu-R. Ribombee, in turn, appreciates the fact that Volcarona can switch in on threats such as Gholdengo and stay healthy while being able to hit Steel-types with a strong Fiery Dance. Lokix can clean teams weakened by Ribombee thanks to its strong U-turn and First Impression while hitting Ghost-types such as Skeledirge and Gholdengo that pose large roadblocks for Bug teams and amplifying the effects of Sticky Web with Knock Off. In exchange, Lokix appreciates being able to outspeed common threats such as Choice Specs Flutter Mane under Sticky Web. Heracross can, in a similar vein to Slither Wing, deal with Steel-types such as Heatran and Bisharp while also using Knock Off to both remove key items from defensive behemoths such as Toxapex and increase the effects of Sticky Web on the opposing team. It appreciates Sticky Web to patch up its lackluster Speed. Finally, Frosmoth is another Quiver Dance user that has massive special bulk thanks to Ice Scales that also appreciates Sticky Web patching up its low Speed. Forretress can keep hazards off of the field to enhance Ribombee's late-game sweeping potential and preserve its Focus Sash while being able to set hazards itself and take on threats such as Bisharp with Body Press. It also, similarly to Kleavor, can add to the hazard pressure by setting Spikes.

Ribombee finds its place as a consistent Sticky Web setter with a solid Speed tier and STAB Moonblast to deter Great Tusk, the tier's best entry hazard remover. Sticky Web disrupts frailer offensive Pokemon as well as Speed Booster Energy Pokemon like Iron Hands and Iron Moth. Moonblast nails the aforementioned Great Tusk and Iron Hands while also acting as a consistent damage source. Psychic Noise hits Poison-types such as Pecharunt and Iron Moth but more importantly denies recovery from Pokemon like Rest Dondozo and Recover Clodsire. Stun Spore slows down and cripples foes including Flying-types and Pokemon holding Heavy-Duty Boots, which ignores Sticky Web Speed drops. On the other hand, Skill Swap allows Ribombee to set up Sticky Web on Hatterene as well as temporarily remove important abilities such as Regenerator. Shield Dust allows Ribombee to avoid secondary effects such as Salt Cure from Garganacl and Malignant Chain from Pecharunt, which, combined with Focus Sash, nearly always guarantees it two turns on the field to set up Sticky Web, do damage with Moonblast or Psychic Noise, or paralyze a foe. While Ribombee should rarely Terastallize, Tera Ghost allows it to spinblock Pokemon like Iron Treads in a pinch. Ribombee should typically be placed in a dump slot that no teammate really wants. Although it appreciates a donation of high Special Attack from gods like Kyurem-W, it is often better to grant that damage increase to other wallbreakers or sweepers on the team. Wallbreakers with mediocre Speed such as Kyurem-W, Manaphy, Hoopa-U, and Urshifu-S are all beneficiaries of Ribombee's Sticky Web, with the latter three allowing them to be utilized in non-Speed slots while maintaining their ability to attack first. Sticky Web also lets faster wallbreakers such as Iron Moth, Zamazenta, Roaring Moon, and Ogerpon-W to forgo a Speed-boosting nature for increased damage. Roaring Moon and Ogerpon-W are especially useful, as they offer strong Knock Offs to remove Heavy-Duty Boots from faster threats such as Iron Treads, Hisuian Electrode, and Eternatus, allowing Ribombee's slower teammates to overwhelm them. Since Ribombee's value lies almost entirely in Sticky Web, Ghost-types such as Pecharunt, Sinistcha, and Arceus-Ghost, which can block Rapid Spin, are incredibly important, while Pokemon that can deter Defog such as Ogerpon and Enamorus should also be considered.

Ribombee's ability to set up Sticky Web facilitates a whole host of strong attackers that may struggle to outspeed fast Pokemon, and its high Speed allows it to set up the entry hazard in the face of common Taunt users. Moonblast is the preferred attacking move to hit common lead Pokemon like Zamazenta and Hisuian Samurott, as well as deterring Great Tusk from using Rapid Spin to clear Sticky Web. Skill Swap allows Ribombee to potentially bypass Magic Bounce from Hatterene and Mega Diancie and set up Sticky Web. Stun Spore allows Ribombee to hinder faster Pokemon, especially those unaffected by Sticky Web, such as Dragonite, Choice Scarf Landorus-T, and Tornadus-T. Ribombee tends to use Stun Spore before Sticky Web, as paralyzing Pokemon has a large payoff at times despite the chance of Stun Spore missing. Focus Sash grants Ribombee a guaranteed turn to set up Sticky Web. 192 Defense EVs guarantee Ribombee to survive Choice Scarf Urshifu-R's Surging Strikes, one of the few Pokemon that outspeed Ribombee and bypass Focus Sash. Shield Dust has various niche uses, such as preventing Mega Lopunny's Fake Out from flinching, which would otherwise deny Sticky Web. Ribombee fits on hyper offense teams built around Sticky Web. Pokemon like Ogerpon-W, Tapu Lele, and Raging Bolt set up easily with Swords Dance or Calm Mind, and their decent Speed tiers are elevated thanks to Sticky Web. Ogerpon-W in particular fits well due to its ability to counter rain teams, as Pokemon like Swift Swim Barraskewda and Mega Swampert are largely unaffected by Sticky Web in rain. Raging Bolt also acts as a great counter to Flying-type threats, resisting the STAB moves of Tornadus-T, Zapdos, and Mega Charizard Y, which are problematic Pokemon due to them not being hindered by Sticky Web. In the same vein, teammates that can handle Levitate Pokemon are appreciated; because Mega Latios is the only common one, partners like Tapu Lele, Weavile, and Gholdengo do the job well. Gholdengo is an especially great teammate, as it denies most entry hazard removal, such as Defog from Corviknight and Zapdos and Rapid Spin from Terapagos and Great Tusk. Gholdengo also poses an immense threat itself thanks to Nasty Plot, threatening Pokemon such as Heavy-Duty Boots Zamazenta, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn. Ceruledge can also be used to deny hazard removal, matching up better against Terapagos; however, it only blocks Rapid Spin and not Defog, notably worsening the matchup against Defoggers like Zapdos, Moltres, and defensive Tornadus-T, which can use Defog with relative safety. Teammates like Booster Energy Speed Great Tusk and Scale Shot Garchomp can threaten Heavy-Duty Boots Cinderace, denying it from being able to use Court Change. Even if Cinderace does pull off Court Change, Serperior acts as a great teammate to gain a Speed boost from Sticky Web while also punishing Defog attempts. Finally, in the case that Sticky Web gets removed, teammates that function well outside of Sticky Web are also appreciated. Volcarona, Mega Charizard X, and Booster Energy Speed Iron Valiant all pack great Speed tiers and can often win games without Sticky Web due to their ability to boost their Speed. Great Tusk is also a great teammate for Ribombee and the Sticky Web archetype, as it can remove entry hazards that can be greatly detrimental to its teammates' health, greatly benefiting sweepers such as Mega Charizard X, Tornadus-T, and Weavile.

Ribombee is the best Sticky Web setter in AG thanks to its Speed tier letting it outspeed and avoid Taunt from Arceus formes as well as its Fairy typing, which makes it immune to Koraidon's Scale Shot. Moonblast allows Ribombee to threaten Pokemon like Miraidon and Grimmsnarl that may try to use Taunt against it. Stun Spore and Pounce both let Ribombee's allies set up and sweep safely without worrying about the opposing Pokemon outspeeding them. Stun Spore paralyzes the likes of Ho-Oh, whereas Pounce offers a safer alternative while also avoiding Taunt from the likes of Arceus-Ground and Miraidon. Skill Swap allows Ribombee to set up Sticky Web in front of Magic Bounce Hatterene. Alternatively, Quiver Dance boosts the power of Ribombee's Moonblast, allowing it to break Substitute from Zacian-C and deal with Tera Steel Koraidon, both of which may attempt to set up in front of Ribombee; it also allows Ribombee to 2HKO Hatterene. Choice Scarf lets Ribombee outspeed Taunt users like Deoxys-S and Miraidon, with Trick to cripple Glimmora and stall Pokemon. However, it gives Ribombee a shakier matchup into Zacian-C while still being outsped by Jolly Choice Scarf Koraidon. Tera Ghost gives Ribombee an immunity to Extreme Speed from Arceus, whereas Tera Steel provides an immunity to Glimmora's Mortal Spin while still keeping a resistance to Extreme Speed. Common hyper offense Pokemon such as Calyrex-S, Zacian-C, and Arceus-Ground greatly benefit from Ribombee's Sticky Web. The Speed drop prevents Choice Scarf Koraidon from revenge killing Calyrex-S and Zacian-C, and in Arceus-Ground's case, allows it to outspeed Choice Scarf Calyrex-S after a Dragon Dance boost. Glimmora can provide the team with Spikes support while punishing physical attacks such as Dual Wingbeat, U-turn, and Flare Blitz from Koraidon; Sacred Fire from Ho-Oh; and Extreme Speed from Arceus by setting up Toxic Spikes. It also provides entry hazard control through Mortal Spin, clearing away Spikes that may have been set by Ting-Lu in front of Ribombee, while its Poison typing allows it to clear Toxic Spikes from Eternatus, since their teammates tend to be vulnerable to entry hazards. Arceus in particular enjoys Glimmora's Toxic Spikes and hazard removal, as it allows Arceus to run items like Mental Herb and Lum Berry. It also appreciates Sticky Web, as they strengthen Arceus's middle-level Speed stat.

Ribombee is the fastest Sticky Web setter in the tier, able to outspeed other leads like Mew to ensure that Sticky Web will go up before Mew can use Taunt. Stun Spore allows Ribombee to paralyze faster threats like Speed Booster Energy Iron Moth and Choice Scarf Enamorus while also ruining setup sweepers that may use it as setup fodder. Tailwind is a great option for Ribombee if it will be immediately KOed after setting Sticky Web, as it allows most partners to outspeed the entire metagame after Sticky Web. U-turn is another option that can scout for switches and create setup opportunities for teammates. While niche, Shield Dust is more relevant than any of Ribombee's other abilities, allowing it to avoid being inflicted with poison or burn from moves like Sludge Bomb and Flare Blitz, giving it another turn to use Stun Spore or Tailwind. Focus Sash allows Ribombee to survive any hit from a faster attacker to ensure Sticky Web goes up. Ribombee works only as a lead on Sticky Web offense teams. Teammates like Mienshao appreciate Sticky Web, as it allows them to outspeed and OHKO threats like Keldeo before they get a chance to retaliate. Defiant users like Bisharp are also useful to punish attempts to use Defog to remove Sticky Web. Ribombee struggles to set entry hazards against Excadrill and Mega Aerodactyl due to Rapid Spin and Dual Wingbeat respectively, so checks to these threats like Celesteela are appreciated. Air Balloon Aegislash is recommended with Ribombee as well, as it can help prevent Excadrill from using Rapid Spin to clear Sticky Web. The turn Ribombee uses to set Sticky Web can be exploited by threats like Swords Dance Scizor and Aegislash, so offensive partners that can handle these threats like Victini and Bisharp are recommended to prevent these threats from sweeping.

Ribombee sets itself apart from other Sticky Web leads thanks to its excellent matchup against all Sticky Web leads. In addition to this, Ribombee has a valuable Speed tier and great ability in Shield Dust. Its Speed tier allows it to outspeed common Taunt users such as Arceus formes and Yveltal. Thanks to Shield Dust, Ribombee can stay in against Smeargle to serve as a status absorber for teammates. However, since Ribombee is unable to deny entry hazards from Deoxys-S and Glimmora leads, it is a niche anti-Sticky Web lead on hyper offense teams. Imprison allows Ribombee to prevent leads such as Smeargle and Shuckle from setting Sticky Web. Skill Swap allows Ribombee to bypass Magic Bounce from Mega Diancie in order to set Sticky Web. In addition, it also provides utility in stealing Primordial Sea and Desolate Land from Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon, respectively, allowing teammates such as Zacian-C to tank an Origin Pulse and Yveltal to take Heat Crash better. Stun Spore is a nuisance for the majority of the tier such as Arceus formes, Yveltal, and Ho-Oh due to Ribombee's Speed tier. It is especially valuable against Ho-Oh, as it prevents Ho-Oh from freely Defogging. In addition, Stun Spore cripples threats such as Zacian-C and Eternatus, preventing them from using Ribombee to easily set up. Moonblast is an option to allow Ribombee to KO Smeargle without risking status for a switch-in. In addition, Moonblast directly threatens Yveltal, Giratina-O, and Dragon Dance Zygarde. The given EV spread is for Moonblast sets and allows Ribombee to outspeed all base 120s while maximizing Moonblast damage. For example, it can always 2HKO physical Giratina-O. The secondary EV spread allows Ribombee to avoid an OHKO from Pheromosa's Triple Axel, and minimizes the odds from being OHKOed after Terastallizing from +1 Kyurem-B's Icicle Spear. Tera Steel allows Ribombee to block Mortal Spin from Smeargle and Glimmora in order to maintain Sticky Web. However, since the use cases are rare, Ribombee should not usually Terastallize. It is also wise to wait for Smeargle to reveal Mortal Spin before Terastallizing, as sets carrying Rapid Spin will cause Ribombee to waste the Terastallization. Ribombee is an excellent anti-Sticky Web choice thanks to its excellent matchup against Smeargle and Shuckle. However, its lead matchups against threats such as Mega Diancie, Deoxys-S, and Glimmora are more challenging. If Ribombee has a bad lead matchup, such as against Deoxys-S or Grimmsnarl, it can wait to set Sticky Web later thanks to its excellent Speed tier. Ribombee can also be preserved if it survives after setting Sticky Web. This is useful so that it can serve as a sack to bring a teammate in or used to revenge kill threats such as Yveltal. Pokemon that appreciate Sticky Web support such as Zacian-C, wallbreaker Primal Kyogre, specially offensive Yveltal, and Chi-Yu are excellent teammates. Zacian-C can easily run through bulkier offense teams and appreciates the ability to outspeed opposing Zacian-Cs. Primal Kyogre is able to greatly threaten Arceus formes and Eternatus thanks to Sticky Web support. Specially offensive Yveltal appreciates being able to outspeed checks such as Zacian-C and Arceus formes. In return, Yveltal provides devastating breaking power and an unmatched ability to keep Sticky Web. Chi-Yu greatly gains from Sticky Web support slowing down checks such as Arceus-Dark and -Fairy. In exchange, Chi-Yu provides the most devastating wallbreaking power in the tier and greatly aids the matchup versus stall teams. Extreme Killer Arceus and Dragon Dance Arceus-Ground are both excellent teammates for Ribombee. Arceus is able to blow through walls such as Primal Groudon and Zygarde with Double Edge while soft-checking Marshadow with Sticky Web support. Arceus-Ground is an excellent answer to Zacian-C and Double Dance Primal Groudon, which can easily threaten to reverse sweep; in addition, it also threatens Ho-Oh. Due to Ribombee's inability to deny entry hazards, Pokemon that are weak to Stealth Rock such as Chi-Yu and Mega Salamence should be picked sparingly as teammates. The exception to this is Yveltal, as its ability to keep Sticky Web up is too valuable. Eternatus is extremely valuable as a teammate due to its ability to absorb Toxic Spikes, as they can cripple hyper offense teammates such as Arceus, Primal Groudon, and Primal Kyogre. Extreme Killer Arceus can easily set up on Ribombee, so Marshadow and Zacian-C are appreciated in order to check it. Although Ribombee can annoy Ho-Oh with Stun Spore, it cannot prevent Ho-Oh from Defogging, so Pokemon that threaten Ho-Oh out such as Meteor Beam Eternatus or can Taunt it such as Tera Fire specifically offensive Yveltal are appreciated.

Ribombee is the fastest Sticky Web setter in the metagame making it a great lead option on Bug teams. With its unique secondary Fairy typing Ribombee can take on Dark- and Dragon-type threats like Mega Latios, Kommo-o, and Greninja with Moonblast, as well as anti-lead the two prominent Magic Bounce users in Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye. Stun Spore is a useful option for punishing opposing leads and ruining fast threats to Bug teams such as Cinderace, Tornadus-T, and Volcarona while also crippling faster Pokemon like Choice Scarf Iron Boulder and Blacephalon in a pinch thanks to Focus Sash. Alternatively, Psychic Noise is an option that respectably damages Poison-types such as Toxapex and Clodsire and prevents recovery from walls like Blissey and Skarmory, making them easier to bypass. U-turn allows Ribombee to keep momentum up after setting Sticky Web, letting it pivot into its more offensive teammates. Ribombee's excellent 124 Speed allows it to outrun Choice Scarf users such as Meowscarada and Roaring Moon under Sticky Web, giving it good value as a revenge killer. Volcarona is a great partner for Ribombee, benefitting greatly from the speed control it provides to outspeed threats like Regieleki and Mega Swampert under rain after a single Quiver Dance. In return, Volcarona melts Steel-types like Skarmory and Ferrothorn that Ribombee struggles against. Similarly, Choice Scarf Kleavor becomes faster than most grounded targets affected by Sticky Web and slices through Fire-types like Iron Moth and Blacephalon with Stone Axe. Physical wallbreakers like Scizor, Mega Scizor, and Mega Pinsir demolish special tanks like Alolan Muk and Hisuian Goodra that Ribombee struggles with while also having an easier time sweeping teams with Sticky Web support.
