Analysis
Set Details Fire Blast is Salazzle's primary Fire-type STAB move for its sheer power, but Overheat is a stronger and more accurate alternative that can be run with the drawback of the Special Attack drop. Encore allows Salazzle to shut down opposing Wish users, namely Scream Tail and Vaporeon, while also punishing setup sweepers such as Flygon and Scrafty. Knock Off is another option that lets it punish common switch-ins such as Swampert, Incineroar, Basculegion-M, and Chansey by removing items like Leftovers, Heavy-Duty Boots, and Eviolite. Toxic is a reliable way of poisoning the Ground-, Water-, and Fire-type foes that try to switch in on Salazzle, including Rhyperior, Swampert, and Incineroar, and putting them on a timer. Heavy-Duty Boots lets Salazzle switch in without taking damage from entry hazards, especially Stealth Rock, but Salazzle is also able to run Focus Sash to have an easier time setting up if it is on a more offensive team. Tera Grass lets it resist Basculegion-M's Aqua Jet and Vaporeon's Flip Turn as well as Flygon's and Rhyperior's Earthquake. Tera Steel lets it keep its resistance to Fairy-type moves while also granting it a resistance to attacks such as Dudunsparce's Boomburst and Munkidori's STAB moves, as well as providing a resistance to Stealth Rock. Tera Dark improves Salazzle's matchups against the Psychic-types it struggles with, such as Meloetta and Munkidori. Salazzle is a nice addition to offense and hyper offense teams, especially ones where its sweeping capabilities are heavily appreciated. Salazzle's ability to break through Steel- and Fairy-types like Copperajah, Bronzong, Sylveon, and Florges is appreciated by Cinccino, Scyther, Goodra, and Flygon. As Salazzle struggles to break through opposing special walls such as Goodra and Vaporeon, it benefits from physical attackers such as Basculegion-M, Brute Bonnet, Toxicroak, and Flamigo, which can break through these threats. Basculegion-M in particular is one of Salazzle's best partners; it is able to let Salazzle hit the field safely with a slow Flip Turn and can check the opposing Ground-types such as Gligar and Rhyperior that Salazzle struggles against. In return, Salazzle checks the Grass-types such as Brambleghast and Decidueye that Basculegion-M fails to deal with. Water-type wallbreakers, including Inteleon and Paldean Tauros-W, are complemented by Salazzle checking the aforementioned Grass-types, which they are unable to stay in against. Encore Salazzle further helps Pokemon like Flygon, Heracross, and Basculegion-M that struggle with Wish users such as Scream Tail, Sylveon, and Vaporeon. Dark-types, most notably Wo-Chien and Scrafty, are good pairings for it that can help check Meloetta and Munkidori, both of which force it out. Scrafty also admires Salazzle checking Sylveon, which it struggles against. If Salazzle is running Focus Sash, it benefits from entry hazard control from dedicated hyper offense leads, such as Taunt Infernape and Froslass as well as Tidy Up Cinccino. As a partner, Brambleghast checks the Ground- and Water-type wallbreakers that Salazzle can struggle against. In return, Salazzle is able to check Amoonguss, Wo-Chien, and Scyther, which Brambleghast fails to deal with. It also benefits from pivots such as Basculegion-M and Meloetta, all of which can bring Salazzle in safely against Steel-types such as Bronzong and Duraludon. Entry hazard support from Duraludon, Flygon, Rhyperior, Gligar, and Klefki helps put Salazzle's checks into KO range, and Knock Off variants pair especially well with hazard stacking, since removing Heavy-Duty Boots makes this chip damage unavoidable. Duraludon can safely switch in on Munkidori and Uxie while running Thunder Wave to aid Salazzle's sweeping capabilities. Meanwhile, Flygon can safely switch in on Earthquake and is able to bring Salazzle in safely against Fairy-types, most notably Sylveon, via U-turn. Rhyperior can take most priority attacks, including Fake Out from Ambipom and Munkidori, and can set up Stealth Rock easily.
