Because this set forgoes Magic Guard in exchange for Tinted Lens, getting rid of Stealth Rock should be a priority before Sigilyph can begin wallbreaking. It is advisable to bring Sigilyph in with a pivot, with a predicted double switch, or against resisted hits such as Passimian's Close Combat. Thanks to Tinted Lens, Sigilyph can even deal with Pokemon that resist its STAB moves normally. Even Slowking and Steelix need to be cautious of directly switching into Sigilyph because it can 2HKO them with Psyshock and Air Slash, respectively. Team Options This Sigilyph is great for balanced teams that need a powerful wallbreaker. Since this Pokemon is great at whittling down Steelix, Slowking, and Rhydon, partners like Heliolisk, Comfey, and Braviary are able to use their STAB moves more freely. Any Pokemon with entry hazard control such as Xatu, Rotom, Dhelmise, or Blastoise can make a great partner for Sigilyph so it doesn't have to switch into Stealth Rock when it attempts to wallbreak. Blastoise can also draw in Grass-types for Sigilyph. Pivots such as Passimian, Heliolisk, and Togedemaru can help bring Sigilyph safely into battle. Passimian and Togedemaru also appreciate Sigilyph's ability to break down Slowking and Steelix, and Passimian can also check Dark-types for Sigilyph. Hazard setters like Rhydon, Steelix, and Seismitoad can help Sigilyph net important 2HKOs or even OHKOs such as against Assault Vest Slowking. Pokemon such as Passimian, Vikavolt, and Magmortar appreciate Sigilyph's ability to check bulky Pokemon such as Slowking, Rhydon, and Weezing so they can spam their own STAB moves much more. In return, these Pokemon can help keep Pokemon that threaten Sigilyph such as Sneasel, Mega Glalie, and Incineroar at bay. A cleric such as Vaporeon and Mega Audino can help heal Sigilyph with Wish and Heal Bell support.

Set Details Magic Guard is Sigilyph's best ability for this set because it protects Sigilyph from indirect damage from Stealth Rock, Toxic poison, and Life Orb recoil, making Life Orb a great item choice to boost Sigilyph's power. With a Timid nature and maximum Speed investment, Sigilyph is just fast enough to outspeed Pokemon like Golbat and Rotom without Choice Scarf and fire off a strong attack. Usage Tips Sigilyph can come in against certain Pokemon's moves like Passimian's Close Combat, but it usually prefers not to, since it needs to be healthy enough to wallbreak throughout the match. It can also be brought in on a double switch, with the help of a pivot, or even against more passive Pokemon such as Xatu, Vaporeon, and Decidueye. Magic Guard helps Sigilyph come in more easily, since it makes it immune to Stealth Rock damage, and preserve its health, since it doesn't take Life Orb recoil. It's because of this amazing ability that Sigilyph can even be at 1% health and still be able to come in on a double switch and continue to wallbreak. Have your team set up entry hazards as soon as possible so Sigilyph can net more 2HKOs and OHKOs, making some threats like Incineroar and Sneasel much more manageable. Moves Calm Mind boosts Sigilyph's damage output, turning it into a dangerous sweeper. Air Slash has amazing neutral coverage, making it a good move to spam. Roost keeps Sigilyph healthy so it can continue to sweep and allows it to switch into weak attacks like Scald from Vaporeon and defensive Slowking with more ease. Cosmic Power can make Sigilyph hard to revenge kill, since it boosts both of its defenses. Stored Power can be used as a potential nuke against Flying-resistant Pokemon like Rhydon and Rotom after using Supersonic Skystrike, while also giving Sigilyph an advantage over stall teams. If running Protect, use it to scout for potential Choice Scarf and Choice Specs users like Togedemaru and Heliolisk and Pursuit from Sneasel and Aerodactyl. Afterwards, it can punish the former by OHKOing it with a boosted Supersonic Skystrike after Stealth Rock damage or pivot into the appropriate answer. Team Options Stealth Rock setters such as Rhydon, Steelix, and Seismitoad make good partners that help Sigilyph net OHKOs or 2HKOs with its Z-Move after boosting, such as against bulky Incineroar, Sneasel, and Druddigon. Pivots such as Passimian, Rotom, and Togedemaru can bring Sigilyph in safely. Passimian and Togedemaru can also check Sneasel, Rhydon, and Heliolisk for Sigilyph, and it can check Pokemon like Dhelmise and Weezing for them in return. Defensive Pokemon like Incineroar, Delphox, Decidueye, and Slowking appreciate Sigilyph's ability to take Toxic for them. Incineroar can also help deal with Sneasel and Delphox for Sigilyph, while Decidueye can soft check Pokemon like Heliolisk and Assault Vest Slowking for Sigilyph. In return, Sigilyph can help check Passimian for these teammates. Pokemon like Magmortar, Alolan Exeggutor, and Slowking can dispatch of Pokemon that resist Air Slash such as Steelix, Rhydon, and Togedemaru.

Moves This is a much different take on Sigilyph that focuses on Flame Orb and Magic Guard to push past many of Sigilyph's common checks and counters. Calm Mind allows Sigilyph to boost its Special Attack and Special Defense to high levels to deal major amounts of damage and avoid revenge killing attempts from special attackers. Psycho Shift allows Sigilyph to burn opposing physical attackers, such as Absol, Spiritomb, and Drapion, that are often used to check Sigilyph. Roost allows Sigilyph to recover HP lost from setting up on defensive Pokemon. Air Slash rounds off the set by giving Sigilyph a solid STAB move nothing is immune to. Set Details The EV spread simply maximizes Sigilyph's overall bulk while also keeping it ahead of dangerous threats such as Drapion and Houndoom that are only slightly slower than it. Magic Guard is absolutely necessary for this set to work, allowing Sigilyph to avoid the passive damage normally caused by holding Flame Orb. A more offensive EV spread of 140 HP / 116 SpA / 252 Spe can be used in order to always OHKO Virizion with Air Slash without a Calm Mind boost. Usage Tips Sigilyph should be brought in on passive Pokemon such as Alomomola, Registeel, and Blastoise in order to activate its Flame Orb and begin setting up. However, make sure Alomomola isn't carrying Knock Off before attempting to use it as setup bait. While Sigilyph can simply burn slower threats, such as Spiritomb and Drapion, after they switch into Sigilyph, catching faster physical attackers, such as Sneasel and Aerodactyl, as they switch in can greatly improve Sigilyph's chances to sweep later in the game. While setting up to sweep, make sure to keep Sigilyph in good enough health with Roost to endure possible revenge killing attempts. Sigilyph should generally avoid using Air Slash before it has a couple of Calm Mind boosts unless a phazer or Haze user has switched in. Even with the alternate spread, Sigilyph's damage output will generally be somewhat low until it can get a boost or two, so it's imperative to get some safe setup opportunities. Team Options Sigilyph has problems with faster Pokemon that can hit it with super effective attacks, such as Sneasel and Choice Scarf Medicham. Registeel checks Sneasel, though Low Kick will do a fair amount to it. Medicham has many issues dealing with Spiritomb due to Spiritomb's access to Pursuit and immunity to Medicham's STAB moves. Houndoom can be extremely problematic for this set if Sigilyph doesn't have many Calm Mind boosts, so Diancie and Emboar can be valuable teammates to check it reliably. Sigilyph appreciates entry hazard support, especially Spikes, to lessen the number of boosts it needs to sweep. Diancie and Rhyperior are capable of setting up Stealth Rock and they resist certain super effective moves aimed at Sigilyph. Garbodor, Qwilfish, and Mega Glalie can provide Spikes support; Mega Glalie can even weaken the opposing team with its powerful attacks. Wallbreakers such as Meloetta, Venusaur, and Absol are also quite helpful to weaken opposing defensive cores for Sigilyph to push past later.

Moves This set is Sigilyph's most prominent in RU, taking advantage of its great coverage options, solid Speed, and Magic Guard ability to block Life Orb recoil and all other forms of passive damage. Psyshock is the primary choice for a STAB move, as it hits Virizion, Gallade, and Assault Vest Eelektross harder than Psychic would. Heat Wave allows Sigilyph to push past bulkier Steel-type Pokemon, such as Registeel and Bronzong. Roost allows Sigilyph to heal off damage it takes upon switching in or from weaker attacks in general while it attempts to break down opposing teams. Sigilyph's final slot allows it to pressure specific defensive Pokemon more easily. Energy Ball is usually preferred to hit Alomomola and Slowking harder while also OHKOing Rhyperior and Seismitoad. Dazzling Gleam is a worthy alternative that can catch Spiritomb on the switch and hit all Dark-types at least neutrally. Psychic should be used with Dazzling Gleam to hit Rhyperior and Alomomola harder than Psyshock. Air Slash is another STAB option Sigilyph can use to keep Dark-types from having a switching in freely. Dark Pulse allows Sigilyph to beat Hoopa and heavily pressure Delphox and Meloetta. Finally, Flash Cannon is a niche option that allows Sigilyph to immediately push past Diancie should it be required. Set Details Sigilyph should always stick to a simple spread of maximum Special Attack and Speed in order to hit as hard and fast as possible. A Timid nature should always be used, as Sigilyph is only slightly faster than Pokemon that threaten it, such as Houndoom and Drapion, thus allowing it to possibly KO them if it carries the proper move. Magic Guard helps Sigilyph break through defensive teams due to being immune to Life Orb recoil and other forms of passive damage. Usage Tips Sigilyph should look for opportunities to switch in against passive Pokemon where it can utilize Magic Guard to absorb possible status moves; such Pokemon include Registeel, Blastoise, and Alomomola. it is quite difficult to switch into Sigilyph, so expect Sigilyph to truly shine against slower, more balanced teams that have fewer Pokemon to outspeed it. Be careful with Pursuit users, such as Spiritomb and Houndoom, and try to deny them any opportunities to switch in by using the appropriate move if Sigilyph has it. If the opposing team lacks a likely Pursuit user, Sigilyph can afford to be played much more aggressively thanks to Magic Guard shielding it from passive damage from status, Life Orb, and entry hazards. Team Options Sigilyph has a very difficult time dealing with Houndoom, as it can't OHKO it with any move whilst Houndoom can either Pursuit trap it, Sucker Punch if Sigilyph catches it with the right move on the switch, or simply use Dark Pulse on a predicted Roost. Thus, Diancie and Poliwrath make for solid teammates due to their strong matchup against Houndoom. Diancie can also set up Stealth Rock and lure in bulky Water- and Grass-type Pokemon for Sigilyph to switch into, while Poliwrath can switch into powerful Rock-type attacks from Rhyperior. Without Dark Pulse and Air Slash, Sigilyph will struggle against opposing Psychic-types, such as Delphox, Hoopa, and Meloetta. Pursuit support from Spiritomb, Sneasel, and Aerodactyl can be very beneficial for this reason. Houndoom is another option; it is immune to both of Delphox's STAB moves and also resists Hoopa's Ghost-type STAB moves. Manectric and Aerodactyl cause issues for Sigilyph, as they are faster and have super effective STAB moves to hit Sigilyph with. Mega Camerupt tends to lure in passive Water-type Pokemon and easily checks Manectric, and Aerodactyl has problems with Escavalier; hence, they make for good teammates. Virizion is a fantastic offensive partner for Sigilyph due to its resistances to Dark-, Electric-, and Rock-type moves. It also tends to be checked by bulkier Psychic-types, thus allowing both it and Sigilyph to wear down those Psychic-types for one of them to sweep. Spikes support from Accelgor, Garbodor, and Mega Glalie is appreciated to drop bulkier targets, such as Jellicent and Diancie, into KO range of the proper coverage move. Although it's not a common strategy in RU, Sigilyph can greatly benefit from Sticky Web support due to how well it performs against Pokemon slower than it. Smeargle is generally the best Sticky Web user due to being able to put an opposing Pokemon to sleep to nearly guarantee getting up Sticky Web early.

This is by far Sigilyph's best set. With no Life Orb recoil thanks to Magic Guard, Sigilyph can become a powerful offensive threat while staying healthy throughout the match. The choice between Psychic and Psyshock is up to personal preference. Psyshock hits special walls such as Clefable and Cryogonal on their weaker physical defense, while Psychic hits neutral targets harder. Heat Wave is an essential coverage move that hits Escavalier, Steelix, and Ferroseed for super effective damage. The third slot is a toss-up between Air Slash and Energy Ball. Air Slash hits Dark-types for major damage, usually 2HKOing them, while Energy Ball hits Slowking, Crawdaunt, Rhydon, and Lanturn super effectively. Roost provides reliable recovery so that Sigilyph can stay healthy. The EVs allow Sigilyph to get the most out of its offensive capabilities. A Timid nature is chosen to maximize Sigilyph's Speed, which is unique and allows Sigilyph to outspeed Pokemon such as Drapion and Lilligant. Life Orb is the primary item, and because of Magic Guard its recoil is negated, giving Sigilyph a free 30% power boost. Dark Pulse could be used to hit Uxie and Slowking for super effective damage, but has little use otherwise. This set is vulnerable to Dark-types such as Spiritomb and cannot break through Uxie and Slowking easily, so Pokemon such as Escavalier or Durant can work as partners to severely damage them. In return, Sigilyph can dent Poliwrath and Qwilfish, common answers to Durant and Escavalier. Entry hazards from Pokemon such as Smeargle and Crustle can make sweeping easier by wearing down Sigilyph's common switch-ins. For example, Slowking is 2HKOed by Energy Ball after switching into Stealth Rock and a layer of Spikes. Spiritomb can also make a fine partner for Sigilyph, as it nicely spinblocks and Pursuit traps Slowking, Uxie, and Cryogonal. Spiritomb can also take hits from Normal-types, such as Cinccino and Tauros, which are typically sent in to revenge kill Sigilyph.

This set is what Sigilyph is most known for. A Cosmic Power set can annoy teams with its combination of decent speed, ability to burn physical attackers, and a move that boosts both of Sigilyph's defenses. Cosmic Power boosts Sigilyph's decent defenses to a point where it is very hard to kill, even with super effective hits. Roost provides reliable recovery so that Sigilyph can stay healthy and cushion weaker Electric- and Ice-type moves. Psycho Shift in conjunction with a Flame Orb will burn physical attackers, most importantly Dark-types. This is because Sigilyph can outlast certain Dark-types thanks to their physically offensive nature. Stored Power rounds up the set, as it is the best way to damage an opponent's team, and after a few boosts Sigilyph can be on its way to a potential sweep. The EV spread invests in Sigilyph's bulk as much as possible while outspeeding max Speed Drapion in order to burn it before it threatens with a super effective Crunch. Because of its unique ability, Sigilyph will not take any damage from the burn inflicted by its Flame Orb and can cripple physical attackers with Psycho Shift. Air Slash could be used for damaging Dark-types, but burning them is more effective. Most Dark-types are physically oriented, so Sigilyph can outstall them with a couple of boosts under its belt, while Air Slash provides a weak attack with little use but to hit anything immune to Stored Power. Calm Mind can boost its Special Attack, but it will miss the Defense boost that Cosmic Power offers. Stored Power will typically wipe out a team after many boosts, so boosting Sigilyph's Special Attack is not needed. Whirlwind is another option it can run, as many of the Pokemon trying to phaze Sigilyph will be naturally slower than it, so it's an effective way of keeping its boosts under its belt. However, Whirlwind should only be used with entry hazards, since if a Pokemon tries to constantly phaze Sigilyph the latter will win out thanks to the damage that racks up. Calm Mind Spiritomb is an absolute nightmare for this set, as it doesn't mind a burn thanks to Rest and can use Sigilyph as setup fodder. Slowking and Mandibuzz can also be a nuisance, as they have reliable recovery in Slack Off and Roost. Mandibuzz is immune to Stored Power as well, and Slowking can take multiple Stored Powers and outstall Sigilyph. Klinklang and Aggron can easily switch into Spiritomb thanks to their Steel typing. Aggron can heavily damage Spiritomb and Mandibuzz, and Klinklang can set up on Spiritomb with Shift Gear. Both Pokemon also bait in Fighting- and Ground-type moves, which can give Sigilyph a way to easily set up. Choice Band Spiritomb itself makes a good partner, as it can Pursuit trap Slowking and Uxie, damaging them and clearing a path for Sigilyph to sweep. It can also absorb Tricks that Pokemon such as Rotom use to cripple Sigilyph. Powerful Fire-types, such as Entei and Choice Specs Typhlosion, are immune to burns and can muster enough power to 2HKO Sigilyph even after a Cosmic Power boost. Therefore, Pokemon such as Rhydon, Slowking, and Qwilfish make fantastic partners, as all can switch into the powerful Fire-type attacks thrown at Sigilyph with ease. Speaking of Fire-types, they make good partners for Sigilyph, as they can switch into a defensive Spiritomb with ease and severely damage it so that Sigilyph has more free rein later in the match. As this Sigilyph set lures in Dark-types and can burn them, Pokemon such as Archeops, Cinccino, and Kabutops can take advantage of a lack of a strong Sucker Punch that could otherwise prematurely end their sweep.

Even with a decent Special Attack that can plow through much of the metagame, Calm Mind is a fine option to boost Sigilyph's Special Attack to even more deadly levels. Calm Mind is the basis of this set, as it allows Sigilyph to boost its Special Attack and Special Defense to become a larger threat. The choice between Psyshock and Psychic is again up to personal preference. Psyshock can be used to hit special walls hard on their weaker physical side, while Psychic is a superior option in dealing out massive damage to neutral targets. Heat Wave is an essential move for hitting Escavalier as well as Steelix, as both Pokemon can comfortably take a Psychic. Roost rounds up the set, as it allows Sigilyph to remain in good shape throughout the match as well as ease the pressure of setting up on weak special attacking threats. The EVs are straightforward, as they try to get the most out of Sigilyph's offensive capabilities, and along with a Timid nature, Sigilyph can outspeed a large portion of the metagame. Life Orb is the preferred item, as it gives Sigilyph a boost in damage without recoil thanks to Magic Guard. A Flame Orb could be used in conjunction with Psycho Shift over Roost, making Sigilyph more self-sufficient in exchange for longevity, as well as giving it the ability to easily set up on Grass-types thanks to an immunity to sleep. This also allows Sigilyph to burn Dark-types and keep them from tearing through it. Whirlwind is another option that Sigilyph can run, as it allows it to win Calm Mind wars against Pokemon such as Uxie, as well as rack up entry hazard damage on common switch-ins such as Entei. As for other offensive options, Air Slash could be used as a secondary STAB move to destroy frailer Dark-type switch-ins such as Absol. Energy Ball is another coverage move that could work as it hits Slowking and Quagsire, but has little use otherwise. Both moves could go over Roost, but Roost provides the ability to set up with more ease and keeps Sigilyph healthy throughout the match. Spiritomb, Slowking, and Uxie are all very irritating to this set, as they have the ability to tank hits from Sigilyph. Spiritomb also threatens Sigilyph with a super effective Dark STAB while Slowking and Uxie can potentially paralyze Sigilyph and make it essentially worthless. Durant and Escavalier make good partners, as they hit most of Sigilyph's counters for heavy damage while Sigilyph can remove their counters, such as Poliwrath, with a swift Psychic. Choice Band Spiritomb can also make a nice partner, as it can Pursuit trap the Psychic-types that come in to wall Sigilyph as well as absorb Tricks thrown at it. It cannot be emphasized enough that Sigilyph needs Dark-types out of the way for this specific set, as Absol can KO it comfortably with a STAB Sucker Punch while Drapion can effectively wall Sigilyph. Therefore, Poliwrath makes a good partner because of its nifty resistance to Dark-type moves, effectively walling them to no end, and it can phaze them out with Circle Throw, which can rack up entry hazard damage. Speaking of entry hazards, support from Pokemon such as Smeargle, Crustle, and Qwilfish give Sigilyph the ability to nab KOes more comfortably. Qwilfish also has the added benefit of taking strong Flare Blitzes and Bug-type attacks aimed at Sigilyph.
