Analysis

Sporting good physical bulk and Regenerator, Tangrowth can act as a great check to a lot of physical attackers like Urshifu-R, Landorus-T, and Great Tusk, which struggle to deal significant damage to it and get chipped via Rocky Helmet. Giga Drain helps Tangrowth stay healthy and lets it win one-on-one against Pokemon like Landorus-T. Tangrowth can be a great utility Pokemon with moves such as Knock Off, which cripples foes by removing their items like Heavy-Duty Boots from Zapdos and Moltres. Focus Blast can aid against Kingambit and Melmetal, as well as maiming Heatran in a pinch. Sleep Powder can be a great emergency option to momentarily shut down Pokemon. The ability to put Pokemon to sleep is rare in National Dex, and having this trait is valuable. It can also be used to predict an incoming Tangrowth counter such as Mega Charizard Y, Heatran, or Galarian Slowking. Stun Spore is also a viable choice, as it can completely hamper the offensive capabilities of foes by crippling their Speed. The designated EV spread is designed to let Tangrowth perform its role as a tank, making it a great physical wall while still letting it take an emergency special hit if healthy. Tangrowth can be a crucial piece in on balance and even bulky offense teams. It takes on common Ground-types like Iron Treads and Great Tusk, paving the way for teammates like Raging Bolt, which resists Fire-type moves from Mega Chairzard Y, Moltres, and Heatran. Tangrowth forces out bulky Water-types like Alomomola and Slowbro and threatens to put the incoming Pokemon to sleep, which is great for teammates like Swords Dance Landorus-T. It also has a distinctive role in checking Ogerpon-W due to its typing and bulk. This benefits a variety of Pokemon such as Gliscor, Ting-Lu, and Alomomola. Ting-Lu and Gliscor are also able to take on Zapdos for Tangrowth. Additionally, Tangrowth's special bulk is very lacking, and it can barely survive special attacks from the likes of Raging Bolt, Heatran, and Galarian Slowking. Special walls like Galarian Slowking and Toxapex can form great defensive cores alongside it, with Tangrowth helping them out against Ground-types like Landorus-T, Iron Treads, and Great Tusk. Garchomp and Moltres are also great teammates, as they can deal with Pokemon that annoy Tangrowth like Volcarona, Mega Charizard Y, and Gholdengo. Pokemon like Kingambit appreciate Tangrowth chipping down common Fighting-types like Zamazenta, Urshifu-R, and Great Tusk.
