Analysis

Calm Mind Tapu Fini acts as a threatening wincon and defensive piece, answering common offensive threats such as Zamazenta, Urshifu-R, and Weavile with ease. Misty Surge allows it and its teammates to set up and pivot without fearing status. Draining Kiss, when coupled with Calm Mind, can turn Tapu Fini into a dangerous wincon that can damage and recover health against foes such as Alomomola and Slowbro. Taunt is used to deny recovery from foes such as Toxapex, pivoting from Galarian Slowking and Slowbro, and status such as Ferrothorn's Leech Seed as well as Toxapex's and Alomomola's Toxic after Misty Terrain has ended. 192 Speed EVs are used in order for Tapu Fini to outspeed maximum Speed Modest Heatran. Leftovers improves Tapu Fini's longevity across a game, making up for its lack of reliable recovery. Calm Mind Tapu Fini fits primarily on bulky offense teams, where its role as a bulky wincon and switch-in to Dark- and Fighting-types is appreciated. Teammates such as Gholdengo and Pecharunt that struggle with Dark-types like Weavile and Hisuian Samurott therefore appreciate Tapu Fini's defensive capabilities, with both in return providing a switch-in to Grass-types such as Rillaboom and Serperior. Other good partners include Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Heatran, both of which provide another Grass-type resistance, with the former being able to answer Ogerpon-W decently well; they also offer a Steel-type resistance against opposing Mega Scizor and Melmetal. In return, Tapu Fini provides a Fighting-type resistance to moves from foes such as Zamazenta and Urshifu-R. Tapu Fini also often finds breaking down Steel-types difficult, meaning teammates such as Zamazenta and Fire-types such as Volcarona are greatly appreciated. In exchange, Tapu Fini can switch in on and find setup opportunities against Water-types such as Toxapex and Slowbro that could otherwise prove troublesome. Tapu Fini struggles to break through Assault Vest Alomomola, making Ogerpon-W which can prevent it from gaining momentum and immediately threaten it with Power Whip, an excellent partner. In exchange, Tapu Fini can threaten Dragon-types like Dragonite that would otherwise be able to set up on Ogerpon-W. Another problem Tapu Fini can have is against Electric-types such as Tapu Koko and Raging Bolt, meaning Ground-types such as Ting-Lu and specially defensive Gliscor are excellent partners; in return, Tapu Fini provides an excellent Water-type resistance that helps against Urshifu-R and Scald Toxapex, neither of which the aforementioned Ground-types would want to stay in against. Tapu Fini is able to break through common Fighting-types such as Zamazenta and Great Tusk as well as Dark-types like Hisuian Samurott, meaning Dark-types such as Hisuian Samurott and Kingambit enjoy Tapu Fini's presence. Additionally, Tapu Fini's Misty Terrain makes them less vulnerable to burns from foes such as Toxapex and Moltres as well as Static from Zapdos. In exchange, these Dark-types can muscle their way through Pokemon such as Galarian Slowking and Slowbro, which Tapu Fini can otherwise struggle with. Fighting-types like Zamazenta, Urshifu-R, and Mega Lopunny that can break through Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Kartana also make good teammates, with Tapu Fini in return providing a soft check against foes such as Dragonite.
