Analysis

Trapinch's respectable bulk, insane Attack stat, and access to Arena Trap make it a powerful trapper. Earthquake OHKOes many targets, including Elekid, Alolan Diglett, Tinkatink, Glimmet, Stunky, and Hisuian Growlithe. Stone Edge completes its EdgeQuake coverage, letting Trapinch hit Flying-types like Vullaby and Wingull. First Impression can finish off chipped foes and revenge kill Gothita. Feint is another form of priority and can bypass Protect. Trapinch has very low base Speed, so it is better to invest in bulk. This EV spread prevents 2HKOs from Stunky's Knock Off and Elekid's Psychic while also avoiding OHKOs from Terastallized Hisuian Growlithe's Flare Blitz and Terastallized Alolan Diglett's Earthquake. Tera Bug is used to further boost First Impression's damage, OHKOing Toedscool and Grookey. In a pinch, it can be used to resist Earthquakes from Alolan Diglett. Flying-types like Vullaby and Wingull appreciate Trapinch's ability to trap Steel- and Electric-types. Vullaby can U-turn on Glimmet and Tinkatink, bringing Trapinch in safely to trap and remove them with Earthquake. Wingull struggles with Elekid and Stunky, both of which Trapinch can eliminate. In return, these partners handle Grass-types like Foongus, Toedscool, and Grookey that threaten Trapinch. VoltTurn support from teammates like Mienfoo, Elekid, and Chinchou makes switching in and trapping easier for Trapinch.
