Analysis

Leveraging its excellent typing, respectable bulk, and access to both Stealth Rock and Spikes, Whiscash is one of the tier's premier entry hazard setters. While Stealth Rock is preferred if the team's sole entry hazard setter is Whiscash, Spikes can be used to hit Pokemon that resist Stealth Rock like Sandslash, Magneton, and Orthworm harder, and Whiscash can run both Stealth Rock and Spikes on the same set for role compression. Whiscash's final moveslot can be either Ice Beam or Stone Edge; Ice Beam lets it hit switch-ins like Dipplin, Whimsicott, and Alolan Exeggutor hard, which would usually resist Whiscash's STAB moves. Stone Edge can be run over Ice Beam to hit Cryogonal hard, which would shake off Ice Beam and Surf due to its excellent Special Defense. However, Whiscash would only opt for Stone Edge if it chooses to run Spikes. Heavy-Duty Boots allows it to reliably come in multiple times to set hazards and block Volt Switch from the likes of Magneton and Jolteon more often without the fear of taking entry hazard chip damage, while Leftovers provides more longevity. Whiscash can choose to run either a physically defensive EV spread or a specially defensive one; the physically defensive spread gives Whiscash a more reliable way to withstand hits from Hitmontop, Sandslash, and Sneasel, while the specially defensive one allows Whiscash to check other special attackers such as Jolteon and Typhlosion. With Tera Ghost, Whiscash can block Rapid Spin from Hitmontop, Sandslash, and Cryogonal. Tera Poison flips its Grass weakness to have an easier time dealing with Arboliva and Virizion, while still keeping a solid defensive typing. Whiscash fits on a myriad of teams that are looking to have an entry hazard setter that has both Stealth Rock and Spikes. Whiscash appreciates a spinblocker like Spiritomb or Sableye to keep entry hazards up at all times. Setup sweepers such as Jolteon, Mesprit, and Sneasel admire Whiscash's ability to reliably dent entry hazard-weak Pokemon like Venusaur, Magneton, and Regirock for them to grasp KOs more easily. Whiscash benefits from teammates like Magneton, Cryogonal, and Muk, as they can handle Grass-types such as Whimsicott, Arboliva, and Venusaur. Whiscash also appreciates Knock Off users such as Mesprit, Skuntank, and Sableye, which complement its entry hazards by removing Heavy-Duty Boots from Pokemon such as Drifblim and Sneasel, allowing them to be worn down more easily. Whiscash makes for an excellent partner for Pokemon vulnerable to Poison-types and Fire-types, such as Whimsicott, Arboliva, and Magneton.
