Análisis

Magmortar finds a place in the tier as a dangerous special attacker with a plethora of good coverage moves. Scorching Sands lets Magmortar hit other Fire-types such as Typhlosion and Camerupt as well as Rock-types like Regirock and Lycanroc. Thunderbolt damages Flying-types like Drifblim and Water-types like Clawitzer, while Focus Blast can be run to hit the aforementioned Rock-types even harder, notably 2HKOing Regirock and Naclstack. Knock Off removes Heavy-Duty Boots from Hitmontop, Eviolite from Naclstack, and Leftovers from Regirock. Taunt can be used instead to stop status moves like Recover from Naclstack while blocking the use of Stealth Rock and Protect; this also prevents the use of Sticky Web from Vikavolt and Toxic Spikes from Muk. Heavy-Duty Boots is required for this set due to how much Magmortar despises entry hazards. Tera Ground powers up Scorching Sands, which notably lets Magmortar 3HKO specially defensive Muk and 2HKO Regirock, and also gives the Pokemon an Electric immunity that blocks Volt Switch from Jolteon. Tera Grass alternatively lets it resist Ground-type and Water-type attacks from Sandaconda, Sandslash, and Clawitzer. Magmortar is best slotted onto balance teams that are looking for a powerful wallbreaker. It benefits from pivots that are able to bring it in safely, such as Magneton, Jolteon, and Basculin. Magmortar also appreciates teammates that check Water-types like Clawitzer and Poliwrath. Specially offensive teammates like Arboliva and Jolteon also benefit from Magmortar's ability to force significant damage onto Orthworm. Grass-types like Venusaur, Whimsicott, and Arboliva make great partners for Magmortar, as they cover its weaknesses and can break some of its checks in Clawitzer, Basculin, and Sandslash. Magmortar serves as a good switch-in to Will-O-Wisp from Drifblim and Weezing directed at Hitmontop, which can in turn take care of Regirock. Faster revenge killers such as Sneasel are also taken care of by Regirock and Sableye, which both appreciate Magmortar's ability to deal with other common physical attackers like Brute Bonnet and Perrserker.
