Analyse

Talonflame is an interesting user of Defog, owing to its typing and effectiveness at spreading burn via Flame Body and Will-O-Wisp. As a Defog user, Talonflame is able to dissuade Gholdengo from switching in with the threat of its Fire-type STAB moves and can consistently threaten to burn common entry hazard setters and removers like Landorus-T, Ting-Lu, Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and Corviknight to control hazard setting and removal in the long term. Overheat has good odds to 2HKO even bulky Gholdengo, with non-Choice Scarf sets getting outsped and threatened with a KO from Talonflame the next turn; meanwhile, Flamethrower is a more accurate and higher PP alternative that still 2HKOes offensive Gholdengo. Will-O-Wisp lets Talonflame reliably enfeeble foes with burn, especially physical attackers like Kingambit, Dragonite, Zamazenta, Great Tusk, and Iron Treads. 32 Speed EVs let Talonflame outspeed positive base 85 Speed Pokemon like Rillaboom and Hisuian Samurott. Tera Dragon lets Talonflame stave off Ogerpon-W lacking Play Rough in a pinch while remaining neutral against U-turn, and it improves Talonflame's matchup against Hisuian Samurott. Talonflame finds its flock among stall teams as a Defogger able to threaten Gholdengo and spread burn. Few situations are quite as nightmarish for a Great Tusk or Iron Treads as being burned while attempting to keep entry hazards from the tenacious Gliscor off the field; as such, Gliscor finds Talonflame to be a useful associate. In return, Gliscor staves off Fire-types and certain special attackers such as Iron Moth, Raging Bolt, and Galarian Slowking that would otherwise find free entry against Talonflame; it also pressures Garganacl with Knock Off or Earthquake. Toxapex is an appreciated colleague that holds off Fire-types such as Ceruledge and Moltres, Water-types like Primarina and Ogerpon-W, and Clefable with Knock Off. It also helps switch around Garganacl's Salt Cure. Amoonguss is another teammate that checks the aforementioned Water-types, being an especially consistent check to the threatening Ogerpon-W. Dondozo is a stall mainstay that answers physical attackers like Swords Dance Gliscor, Ceruledge, and Tera Fire Pokemon like Dragonite and Kingambit that can ignore Talonflame's burn. Another stall staple, Blissey, answers special attackers that scare Talonflame out, like Kyurem, Hatterene, Primarina, Calm Mind Clefable, and Walking Wake. Talonflame works well with a secondary Defogger, such as Corviknight or Galarian Weezing. Corviknight is less afraid of taking Knock Off from Great Tusk or Iron Treads, with Talonflame improving the team's matchup against Gholdengo, while Galarian Weezing is a Defogger similarly effective against Gholdengo that appreciates Talonflame holding off Pokemon like Kingambit and Dragonite. Stacking a second hazard remover along with Talonflame to threaten Gholdengo enables the rest of the team to drop Heavy-Duty Boots entirely in favor of items like Leftovers or Rocky Helmet to maximize their longevity and utility.
