Usage Tips Accelgor can be used as a lead thanks to its ability to threaten out Passimian leads and begin setting Spikes or fire off a powerful attack. Team Options Spinners such as Blastoise and Dhelmise pair well with Accelgor, since they can clear entry hazards without removing the Spikes it sets. Xatu in particular is an excellent partner, since it can beat Steelix one-on-one and still provides excellent hazard control. Stealth Rock setters such as Rhydon, Druddigon, and Steelix can form a hazard stacking core with Accelgor. Rhydon can also help deal with bulky Flying-types like Golbat and Substitute Braviary and Fire-types such as Incineroar, Delphox, and Magmortar if Accelgor has locked itself into the wrong move. Pivots like Passimian, Togedemaru, and Incineroar can help bring Accelgor into battle safely. Passimian can also check Rock-types, while Togedemaru can check Golbat and Substitute Braviary. Psychic-types like Sigilyph, Delphox, and Slowking can help Accelgor deal with Poison-types. Delphox can even help provide Wish support for Accelgor, and Sigilyph appreciates the Spikes support given it forces many switches itself. Slowking provides Future Sight support, which prevents Poison-types from pivoting in against Accelgor or else they risk getting hit hard.

Setup sweepers like Comfey, Sigilyph, and Incineroar appreciate Accelgor's Spikes chipping certain Pokemon to make their time sweeping easier. Incineroar also appreciates Accelgor threatening Rhydon and keeping faster foes in check. Comfey also likes Accelgor removing Steelix and Incineroar so it can sweep later on. Other offensive Pokemon such as Heliolisk, Sceptile, and Braviary appreciate Accelgor's ability to lure in and beat Pokemon that wall their STAB moves, such as Rhydon, Incineroar, and Steelix.

Energy Ball is another option here, allowing Accelgor to OHKO Rhyperior after Stealth Rock, as long as Rhyperior doesn't have a Careful nature. It also ensures that Accelgor 2HKOes specially defensive Alomomola even when running a Timid nature. Spikes is a great option to capitalize on forced switches, helping to wear down your opponent's team. Sludge Bomb 2HKOes Aromatisse, which can otherwise wall Accelgor completely. Set Details Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment maximizes Accelgor's offensive capabilities. Life Orb increases Accelgor's damage output even further. A Timid nature allows Accelgor to outspeed Timid Jolteon and Choice Scarf Medicham. A Modest nature can be used instead to give Accelgor's attacks even more power, allowing it to 2HKO specially defensive Alomomola with Giga Drain. Though it's situational, Sticky Hold is the chosen ability, as it prevents Trick or Switcheroo users from taking Accelgor's item. Usage Tips Accelgor can be used at several points during the game. Its high Speed and good coverage allow it to act as a potent revenge killer as needed. Accelgor should not be directly switched into attacks, as its poor bulk means it struggles to take even resisted hits. Accelgor can potentially be used to clean late-game, but keep in mind that its frailty leaves it fairly easy to revenge kill with Choice Scarf or priority users. If running Spikes, it can punish the opponent's switches quite well, providing more residual damage on the opposing team. Team Options Teammates that can remove entry hazards are appreciated, as Accelgor can be worn down quickly due to its frailty, weakness to Stealth Rock, and Life Orb recoil. Hitmonlee and Kabutops work well in this regard, as they can provide Rapid Spin support and help break past special walls for Accelgor. Wallbreakers such as Hitmonlee, Emboar, and Choice Specs Meloetta make for good teammates, as they can break past the special walls that Accelgor struggles with. If running Spikes, a spinblocker such as Mega Banette or Spiritomb can pair up nicely with Accelgor to help ensure entry hazards stay set up. Flying-types such as Golbat and Braviary are quite threatening to Accelgor, as it lacks super effective coverage against them and they threaten to KO Accelgor with Brave Bird. Strong Electric- or Rock-types such as Jolteon, Magneton, and Kabutops can all serve as great offensive Pokemon to deal with Flying-types.

Moves Accelgor's high Speed makes it an effective Spikes lead for hyper offense teams. With Spikes set up, the opponent's grounded Pokemon take extra damage upon switching in, making it easier for Accelgor's teammates to break through walls and eventually sweep. Final Gambit is quite important to ensure Spikes stays set up on the other side of the field; its main use is preventing opposing Rapid Spin and Defog users from clearing entry hazards for one turn, after which an appropriate teammate can switch in and threaten the opponent's entry hazard remover. If Accelgor has high HP left, it will take out a large chunk of the foe's HP as well. Encore is useful for locking the foe into support moves and discouraging setup sweepers from setting up on Accelgor, as well as giving Accelgor opportunities to set additional layers of Spikes. It can also provide Accelgor's teammates with an opportunity to set up. Bug Buzz is Accelgor's strongest STAB move, giving it a way of dishing out damage without always resorting to Final Gambit, which is especially important if Accelgor is Taunted by a foe. Energy Ball is an option over Encore, as this allows Accelgor to heavily damage or KO Rhyperior, which might try to anti-lead against Accelgor. This can help clear the path for teammates such as Houndoom and Tauros. Set Details With maximum Speed investment and a Timid nature, Accelgor naturally outspeeds the entire unboosted metagame. Full investment in HP maximizes Final Gambit's potential damage output. An alternate spread of 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe can be used to increase the damage output of Bug Buzz instead. Focus Sash allows Accelgor to survive any one hit, allowing it to set up two layers of Spikes against foes that attack it outright. Unburden doubles Accelgor's Speed after Focus Sash activates, allowing it to set up two layers of Spikes even against opposing Choice Scarf users. Usage Tips Accelgor is best used as a lead for hyper offense teams. Be cautious of opposing priority users, such as Hitmonlee and Mega Glalie, as well as Rock Blast users, such as Rhyperior, as these Pokemon can limit Accelgor to a single layer of Spikes. If your opponent brings in a Rapid Spin user to try to remove Spikes, either switch to a teammate that can spinblock or use Final Gambit. If Accelgor is up against a Defog user and Spikes has already been set up, use Final Gambit. This blocks entry hazard removal for a turn, allowing you to bring in a teammate to threaten the foe out and keep entry hazards set up. Final Gambit can also take a serious chunk out of the foe's health if Accelgor is still at high HP, allowing Accelgor to heavily damage or KO a foe that is particularly threatening to your team. Team Options Ghost-type Pokemon, mostly Jellicent and Mega Banette, are good teammates because they block Rapid Spin, making it easier to keep Accelgor's Spikes set up on the opponent's side of the field. Mega Banette also has priority Taunt, which can prevent Defog, although it should be kept in mind that it has to have already Mega Evolved for that to happen. A fast Stealth Rock user such as Archeops or Uxie can be useful on entry hazard-stacking offense teams. Strong wallbreakers, including Houndoom, Hitmonlee, Emboar, and Choice Specs Meloetta, can all put huge offensive pressure on the opponent and greatly benefit from the entry hazard support that Accelgor provides. Powerful Volt Switch users such as Choice Specs Rotom-C can help to wear down the opponent's team; entry hazard damage combined with Volt Switch can quickly wear down the foe, not to mention Rotom-C can also demolish Ground-types with Leaf Storm. U-turn users also pair well with Accelgor to keep momentum for your team and leave the opponent at a disadvantage, causing the opponent's team to be worn down by Spikes.

With a massive base 145 Speed stat and access to Spikes, Accelgor seems like the perfect candidate for a suicide lead. It also has access to a rarely seen move in Final Gambit, which can completely disrupt your opponents, most likely knocking out of one their Pokemon and possibly destroying their spinner. With maximum HP investment, Accelgor reaches 364 HP, allowing it to OHKO the majority of the RU metagame in exchange for its own life. Its ridiculously high Speed stat means that no unboosted Pokemon will be outspeeding Accelgor anytime soon, allowing it to set up at least 1 layer of Spikes (most likely 2 layers thanks to Focus Sash). Even if knocked down to 1 HP, Final Gambit can still be helpful, as it blocks Rapid Spin users from landing their attack, thus preventing them from spinning away your hazards. Bug Buzz is a good STAB option, and Focus Blast complements it well, allowing Accelgor to demolish Steel- and Rock-types without having to use Final Gambit to do so. Hidden Power Rock is an alternative to Focus Blast, and can be used in order to deal a massive amount of damage to Moltres and, more importantly, defeat Aerodactyl and Scolipede one-on-one. A Timid nature with 252 Speed EVs lets Accelgor outrun the entirety of the unboosted RU metagame, capping out at an amazing 427 Speed. Maximum HP investment is used in order to allow for Final Gambit to deal 364 points of direct damage to the opposition when Accelgor is at full health. Sticky Hold is the ability of choice, completely disrupting Trick users such as Rotom. Focus Sash is used in order to let Accelgor live a hit, basically guaranteeing at least 2 layers of Spikes if you choose. This Accelgor is naturally very good on offensive teams, providing Spikes and possibly knocking out the opponent's Rapid Spin user. Partners with Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes are appreciated, as this Accelgor can demolish opposing spinners, thus making your other hazards much more deadly. Every sweeper will benefit from this Pokemon, enjoying the luxury of being able to destroy the opposition much more easily with hazard support. Giga Drain is an option in the last slot, letting Accelgor hit Water-types and Rhydon harder, but the coverage provided by Focus Blast and Hidden Power Rock is usually much more useful. Yawn is also an option in order to potentially cripple one of the enemy's Pokemon; however, Final Gambit makes Yawn somewhat redundant. U-turn is another option, letting Accelgor scout out the opponent and bring in one of its teammates for a more reasonable match-up, but again, Final Gambit makes it relatively useless. Finally, Recover is also an option in order to restore Accelgor's HP, and can work well in tandem with Final Gambit.

With this set, Accelgor attempts to use its good Special Attack and solid neutral coverage to facilitate a sweep. Bug Buzz is Accelgor's strongest and most reliable STAB attack, and is thus its primary attacking option, hitting most Pokemon for neutral damage. Focus Blast is used alongside Bug Buzz to give Accelgor a way to damage the Steel- and Rock-types that resist Bug Buzz. Hidden Power Rock completes Accelgor's coverage, letting it hit Fire- and Flying-types super effectively, notably Moltres, who would otherwise force Accelgor out and greatly threaten the rest of the team. In the last slot, Spikes is a nice option that allows Accelgor to be useful even when faced with walls it can't do much damage to, such as Escavalier. Giga Drain is another good choice; it doesn't add much to Accelgor's coverage, but it does give it a chance to recover some of the HP lost to entry hazards and Life Orb recoil, especially against Water-types such as Lanturn and Poliwrath. A Timid nature is preferable to Modest, as it allows Accelgor to outspeed several common Choice Scarf users, such as Jolly Medicham and Modest Moltres. Furthermore, it ensures that Accelgor can outspeed Pokemon such as Modest Gorebyss and Modest Omastar after a Shell Smash, notable Pokemon to outspeed. Additionally, the power loss is often unnoticeable, still managing to OHKO Lilligant and Moltres with a Life Orb-boosted Bug Buzz and Hidden Power Rock, respectively. Life Orb is the preferred item as Accelgor needs as much additional power as it can muster, while Choice Specs provides even more power at the cost of being locked into one move. Sticky Hold is chosen to ensure that Accelgor is insusceptible to Trick, as being Tricked a Choice item would effectively neutralize it when it is not carrying Choice Specs. Sludge Bomb is an option for additional neutral coverage; however, Bug Buzz overlaps with its only super effective coverage. When using Choice Specs, U-turn is a great option in the fourth slot, giving Accelgor a useful way to scout opposing switch-ins and gain momentum. Accelgor can also use Recover to heal itself on predicted switches, although it's usually better off firing away with an attack or setting up Spikes on those free turns. Offensive Accelgor greatly appreciates Rapid Spin support due to its vulnerability to all forms of entry hazards, while also appreciating the support of hazards of its own to heighten its sweeping potential. Ghost-types primarily wall Accelgor due to their resistance and immunity to Bug Buzz and Focus Blast, respectively. Pursuit support or strong offensive Dark-types, such as Spiritomb and Absol, are appreciated as teammates.

With this set, Accelgor can play the role of both a momentum thief and team supporter. By using enough Speed EVs to beat even Jolly Choice Scarf Medicham--and, occasionally, its useful resistances to Ground, Grass, and Fighting--it can come in on a large number of Pokemon attempting to set up and Encore the set-up move in order to render them helpless. The key to this set is Substitute; it eases prediction for Accelgor, and when used in conjunction with Baton Pass, a teammate can get in safely without fearing status. In addition, should the Substitute manage to stay intact, you get even more momentum. Bug Buzz lets Accelgor finish off weakened opponents if the opportunity presents itself; it goes some way to hide this set's true purpose, and is a generally useful STAB move. The fact that this set can even set up in the face of Trick is just the icing on the cake. The EV spread is used to allow Accelgor to make 5 Substitutes instead of 4 if it's at full health, letting it stall out field effects such as rain and Trick Room if need be. If you are using 2 attacks instead of Baton Pass, an alternate spread of 16 HP / 240 SpA / 252 Spe is suggested to maintain the same effect while letting Accelgor threaten things more directly. Focus Blast is an excellent move for this purpose, dealing with Aggron, Klinklang, and Steelix--all of which are common switch-ins to Accelgor. Other options include Hidden Power Rock to deal with opponents that resist this combination such as Moltres and Scyther or Hidden Power Ghost to deal with opposing bulky Ghost-types. Because this set has a rather nasty case of four-moveslot syndrome, there will always be something that isn't covered; partners for this set should be considered with this in mind. If Accelgor lacks Focus Blast, Klinklang gives this set trouble, outspeeding Accelgor after Shift Gear and not worrying about Substitute thanks to Gear Grind. While Whimsicott is not likely to switch into Accelgor for fear of Bug Buzz, other Prankster users such as Murkrow and Volbeat are not friendly to this set. For both of these reasons, Steelix makes a great partner, as it is immune to Thunder Wave, laughs at Klinklang, and phazes away any of the opponent's boosts. Speaking of Prankster, priority is another worry for this set; as such, Lanturn pairs well with this set, resisting Aqua Jet while threatening Entei, the main Extreme Speed user.
