With its great defensive stats, access to Calm Mind and Stored Power, and Weak Armor ability, Armarouge becomes a potent setup sweeper on Psychic teams. Flamethrower complements Armarouge's Stored Power, allowing it to hit Steel-types like Scizor, Gholdengo, and Iron Treads. Iron Defense increases Armarouge's survivability against physical attacks, negating Defense drops from Weak Armor as well as letting it survive super effective moves like Earthquake from defensive Great Tusk, activating its Weakness Policy. At +1, Focus Blast allows Armarouge to OHKO Dark-types like Roaring Moon, Hydreigon, and potentially Tyranitar while also 2HKOing Hisuian Goodra and specially defensive Heatran. Aura Sphere can be used over Focus Blast for its accuracy; however, it trades off Focus Blast's higher power, requiring multiple boosts to OHKO common foes like Roaring Moon. Weak Armor boost allows Armarouge to outspeed faster threats like Dragapult, Flutter Mane, and Choice Scarf users like Roaring Moon, Hisuian Samurott, and Landorus while also boosting the power of Stored Power. Deoxys-S is an excellent partner for Armarouge, providing dual screens support for easier setup and setting entry hazards, making it easier for Armarouge to break through bulky foes. Indeedee sets up Psychic Terrain, which boosts the power of Armarouge's Psychic moves and blocks priority moves like Bisharp's Sucker Punch and Azumarill's Aqua Jet. Indeedee can also provide Healing Wish support, giving Armarouge a second chance to sweep. Latios provides a Ground immunity and a Water resistance and threatens foes with these types back with its BoltBeam coverage. Gallade threatens Dark-types like Ting-Lu and Alolan Muk, while Hoopa-U deals with Ghost-types like non-Choice Specs Flutter Mane, Skeledirge, and Spectrier. Armarouge also appreciates the pair's ability to break through special walls such as Hisuian Goodra, Swampert, and Blissey. Hatterene provides hazard control thanks to Magic Bounce, and Choice Scarf Iron Boulder deals with faster threats like Choice Specs Flutter Mane and Choice Scarf Meowscarada, Greninja, and Roaring Moon. Both appreciate Armarouge handling Steel-types like Archaludon, Scizor, and Corviknight.

With Weakness Policy, Endure, and a Speed boost from Weak Armor, Armarouge becomes a fast and hard-hitting late-game sweeper, outspeeding and removing threats like Kleavor, Choice Band Meowscarada, the Landorus formes, and Choice Scarf Urshifu-S. At +2 Special Attack, Focus Blast allows Armarouge to OHKO Heatran, Darkrai, and Ursaluna while also 2HKOing threats switching into Armarouge such as Hisuian Goodra and Blissey. Aura Sphere can be used over Focus Blast for its accuracy; however, it trades off Focus Blast's higher power, making it miss out on OHKOing specially defensive Heatran after a Weakness Policy activation. Stored Power can be used over Expanding Force for higher breaking power after Weakness Policy and Weak Armor have activated, but this comes at the cost of being weaker without their previously mentioned boosts. Flamethrower allows Armarouge to melt Steel-types like Corviknight and Gholdengo, while Armor Cannon has higher breaking power and is capable of OHKOing Gliscor and non-Assault Vest Tornadus-T after a Weakness Policy boost. Indeedee-M is a crucial teammate due to its ability to set Psychic Terrain and its switch into Ghost-type attacks. Setting Psychic Terrain allows Armarouge to use a greatly strengthened Expanding Force that can KO Swampert and Assault Vest Gallade after Stealth Rock chip damage and Weakness Policy's activation. It also protects Armarouge from powerful priority attacks like Bisharp's Sucker Punch and Azumarill's Aqua Jet. Deoxys-S is another great partner with Armarouge due to its access to Spikes and Stealth Rock, which allow Armarouge to break through bulkier Pokemon like the Ogerpon formes and Ting-Lu and bypass Sturdy and Focus Sash from Ogerpon-C, Forretress, and Great Tusk. Deoxys-S can also set dual screens for Armarouge, allowing it to live a hit from Pokemon like Weavile, Lokix, and Excadrill and OHKO them back with Weakness Policy-boosted moves without the need for Endure. Hoopa-U and Gallade are great offensive partners for Armarouge the former handles Ghost-types like Spectrier and Flutter Mane while the latter deals with Dark-types like Alolan Muk and Ting-Lu. Hatterene is a good partner due to its imperative access to Magic Bounce, granting Armarouge some relief from hazards, and, if holding a Kasib Berry, Hatterene can paralyze fast Ghost-types like Dragapult and Spectrier with Nuzzle. Iron Boulder and Latios both appreciate Armarouge's ability to eliminate annoying Steel-types like Corviknight and Scizor. In return, the former checks fast threats like Choice Scarf Meowscarada, Greninja, and Roaring Moon, while the latter uses its Ground immunity and BoltBeam coverage to eliminate walls like Empoleon and Gliscor. Slowbro is a good defensive partner for Armarouge, as it uses its Water resistance to take hits from Barraskewda and Gyarados and can deal with Ceruledge if it chooses to forgo an item.

Armarouge's combination of powerful STAB moves, excellent coverage, Weak Armor, and Psychic Terrain makes it a strong candidate to use Focus Sash. Psychic Terrain: Psychic Terrain is a powerful setup move for Armarouge thanks to Expanding Force; it also protects Armarouge from priority moves after Weak Armor triggers. Expanding Force: Expanding Force under Psychic Terrain especially with Tera Psychic, is a devastatingly powerful move. Armor Cannon: This helps Armarouge defeat Steel-types as well as Chien-Pao and Wo-Chien, who all resist or block Expanding Force. Aura Sphere: While Armor Cannon covers several prominent Dark-types, Aura Sphere is needed if you want to threaten Chi-Yu or Roaring Moon. Destiny Bond: This is a good alternative to forcefully take down threats that Armarouge can’t easily KO, and it works very well with Weak Armor. Energy Ball: Energy Ball hits the specially defensive Water-types Armarouge might struggle to defeat otherwise, most notably Gastrodon. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Low / Medium: Between Focus Sash and Psychic Terrain blocking priority moves, Armarouge is well-equipped to play without Tera. On the other hand, Armarouge can specialize to handle certain matchups better, at which point Tera can become more necessary. Grass: This Tera typing turns Armarouge's Water- and Ground-type weaknesses into resistances, and gives a vital Spore immunity against opposing Breloom. Psychic: With a boost from Tera Psychic, Expanding Force OHKOes even relatively bulky foes such as Garchomp and Flutter Mane. With Stealth Rock, Expanding Force still achieves most notable KOs without Tera Psychic, but the extra damage is still appreciated. Fairy: In cases where setting up Psychic Terrain proves to be more difficult, Tera Fairy grants a resistance to Sucker Punch and makes disrupting other Dark-types like Chi-Yu easier. Its also just a solid defensive typing that neutralizes all of its other weaknesses. Fighting: Tera Fighting is a more niche option for a Dark-type resistance that also powers up Aura Sphere. Abilities Weak Armor: This ability takes full advantage of Focus Sash, guaranteeing you live a single hit from a physical attacker and granting a big Speed boost thereafter. Flash Fire: While more situational, Flash Fire is worth considering with certain Tera Types like Grass, keeping momentum against revenge killers who use Fire-type attacks. It can also be used with Tera Fairy or Tera Fighting to shut down many variants of Chi-Yu.
