Close Combat provides useful coverage for Pokemon that can comfortably take Icicle Crash, like Gigalith, Ferroseed, Silvally-Steel, and Aggron. Glastrier's last slot has some variety. Crunch provides crucial coverage for Pokemon that resist Icicle Crash like Jellicent, Centiskorch, and Doublade. High Horsepower is an option that lets Glastrier hit Neutralizing Gas Weezing, Lanturn, and Doublade harder while also synergizing better with Close Combat. However, it provides less important coverage than Crunch, making it inferior much of the time. Glastrier's defensive shortcomings due to its Ice typing and miserable Speed mean that support from pivots such as Ribombee, Wishiwashi, and Mesprit is essential for it. Grass-types like Eldegoss, Thwackey, and Whimsicott make for excellent partners, as they can break through Water-types like Quagsire and Lanturn that would otherwise inhibit Glastrier’s offensive potential. Eldegoss provides much-appreciated entry hazard removal in the case that Glastrier loses its item, and Whimsicott provides great utility in Sleep Powder and Knock Off to punish switch-ins like Centiskorch and Lanturn while also having a flexible offensive presence that allows it to assist versus Pokemon like Weezing and Quagsire. Thwackey provides useful Grassy Terrain support, which gives Glastrier better overall longevity. Charizard is another excellent offensive partner, as it can assist with breaking through Pokemon such as Weezing and Centiskorch while appreciating Glastrier's ability to break through Gigalith.

Glastrier is a niche wallbreaker on Ice teams thanks to its natural bulk, good matchup against Poison-types and threats like Celesteela, and monstrous Attack. However, it faces serious competition from Arctozolt and Galarian Darmanitan due to its abysmal Speed and inability to wallbreak efficiently without setup. Substitute eases predictions for Glastrier, makes it immune to status from slower Pokemon like Toxapex, Amoonguss, and Ferrothorn, and lets it use passive Pokemon like Pelipper and Celesteela as setup fodder. Icicle Crash and High Horsepower have great coverage against most defensive cores, with the latter providing crucial coverage against opposing Steel- and Fire-types like Klefki and Torkoal. The given EV spread outpaces Celesteela while retaining as much bulk as possible. Teammates like Kyurem appreciate Glastrier dealing with or weakening walls such as Galarian Slowking, Celesteela, and Tyranitar. In return, Kyurem breaks past physically defensive walls such as Slowbro and Rotom-W. Alolan Ninetales is an excellent teammate that provides extra setup opportunities with Aurora Veil and deals with Fighting-types like Urshifu-R and Kommo-o. With Bolt Beak and Freeze-Dry, Arctozolt pressures common Glastrier checks like Slowbro, Tapu Fini, and Quagsire. Cloyster is an essential teammate for removing entry hazards with Rapid Spin; primarily Stealth Rock; and setting up Spikes. Fast teammates like Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan and Weavile can check foes like Zeraora, Victini, and Blacephalon for Glastrier. Additionally, Weavile can clean up types such as Flying late-game once Celesteela has been worn down or eliminated. Mamoswine threatens Steel- and Fire-types like Heatran, Volcanion, and Aegislash and can revenge kill Pokemon like Galarian Zapdos and Dragapult with Ice Shard. Piloswine provides Stealth Rock support and puts Rotom-W on a timer with Toxic while dealing with the likes of Tapu Koko, Regieleki, and Alolan Raichu.

Swords Dance lets Glastrier take advantage of its decent enough coverage and good bulk to set up and sweep. Icicle Crash is the best STAB option Glastrier has, hitting Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Yveltal, and Rillaboom. Close Combat allows it to hit those pesky Steel-types and opposing Ice-types such as Heatran, Kyurem-B, and opposing Glastrier. Crunch is a safe option that nails opposing Psychic- and Ghost-types such as Blacephalon, Galarian Slowking, and Victini. Megahorn, however, provides Glastrier with a way to hit Slowbro and Slowking harder. Swords Dance is the star of this set, allowing Glastrier to boost up to take out an opposing Pokemon then snowball from there. Swords Dance Glastrier is normally found on hyper offense teams that can provide it with dual screens support; Alolan Ninetales and Tapu Koko are great dual screens leads. Glastrier requires a high Speed stat, meaning it should generally be paired with one of Mewtwo, Pheromosa, or Zamazenta-C. They also help Glastrier break down walls in the case of Zamazenta-C and Mewtwo or get a switch in from a fast U-turn in the case of Pheromosa. Entry hazard support from the likes of Garchomp and Skarmory is greatly appreciated here, as Glastrier can force a lot of switches and therefore help wear down the opposing team. Glastrier still struggles to muscle past bulky Water-types such as Slowbro and Tapu Fini, so Pokemon like Rillaboom, Kartana, and Zeraora can help ease those matchups by wearing them down or taking them out completely. Choice Scarf Fire-types such as Blacephalon, Heatran, and Victini appreciate Glastrier's ability to break down walls for them to clean up afterwards.

With a Speed donation, Glastrier is a fast, bulky, and powerful attacker that can snowball through the opposing team thanks to Chilling Neigh. Icicle Crash is its best STAB option, threatening the likes of Landorus-T and Yveltal and boasting excellent neutral coverage and a nifty flinch chance. Close Combat nails opposing Ice- and Steel-types such as Kyurem-W, Ferrothorn, and Heatran. Crunch allows Glastrier to take on threats like Necrozma-DM, Blacephalon, and Lunala, while Megahorn is an alternative to nail Slowbro and Slowking while also hitting other Psychic-types such as Calyrex-I. High Horsepower in the 4th slot provides a safer choice over Close Combat against Steel-types like Heatran while also hitting Necrozma-DM and Blacephalon harder. It also nails Fire types such as Victini and Volcanion. The decision between Choice Scarf and Choice Band depends on its god; it prefers Choice Scarf when paired with slower gods like Yveltal, Lunala, and Ho-Oh, but it makes great use of Choice Band when receiving Speed from Zamazenta-C, Mewtwo, and Pheromosa. Wallbreakers such as Zygarde-10% and Galarian Moltres appreciate Glastrier's ability to clean up after they have punched holes in the opponent's defensive core. Gods such as Lunala and Yveltal give Glastrier the ability to augment its subpar Speed stat and in turn appreciate the bulk that Glastrier brings to the team; if opting for the Choice Band variant, it should be paired with faster Gods like Zamazenta-C and Mewtwo. Entry hazard support, particularly Spikes, from Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory helps Glastrier to wear down Steel-types that it tends to struggle with. Glastrier also struggles with entry hazards itself, so Defoggers such as Landorus-T and Rotom-W help ease Glastrier being worn down by them. While opposing bulky Water-types can give Glastrier trouble, they are still the best partners for it as they can handle opposing Fire-types such as Victini and Blacephalon with ease. Rotom-W, Slowbro, and Gastrodon are all excellent choices. Grass-types such as Rillaboom and Kartana appreciate Glastrier's ability to take out Flying-types such as Tornadus-T and Zapdos. Electric-types such as Zeraora and Tapu Koko appreciate Glastrier's ability to get rid of Ground-types such as Zygarde-10% and Landorus-T, allowing them to have an easier time sweeping. In return, they threaten bulky Water-types such as Slowbro, Suicune, and Tapu Fini, which allows Glastrier to have an easier time sweeping.

Glastrier's insane bulk, power, and Chilling Neigh make it a fearsome Dynamax sweeper, especially under Trick Room. Icicle Spear breaks through Focus Sash and Disguise, making it the ideal STAB once Dynamax has run out. Icicle Crash deals more consistent damage outside of Dynamax, and can flinch foes under Trick Room or with Custap Berry. Heavy Slam gives Glastrier access to the valuable Max Steelspike while Dynamaxed. Endure can be useful when used with Custap Berry to give Glastrier one priority attack. Glastrier becomes a far more deadly Pokemon when it has Trick Room support. Cresselia is the best choice for this, since it can use Lunar Dance to give Glastrier another chance to sweep through teams, and even let it Dynamax early. Mimikyu and Porygon2 are also good users of Trick Room. Items Weakness Policy pairs perfectly with Dynamax, giving Glastrier another way to sweep teams. Custap Berry can make revenge killing Glastrier extra difficult when it's low on health, giving it one attack with higher priority. Assault Vest makes Glastrier even more difficult to take down on the special side, and pairs especially well with Dynamax. Lum Berry can be paired with Swords Dance to severly punish Yawn leads such as Hippowdon and Swampert, and also to worry less about common Will-O-Wisp users such as Rotom-W.
