Leftovers gives Gogoat passive recovery, allowing it to last longer and making it easier to set up. Sap Sipper grants Gogoat an immunity to Grass-type moves and boosts its Attack when it's hit by one. Usage Tips Gogoat can be switched into a Grass-type move such as Leech Seed, but it should be wary switching into some Grass-types, such as Roselia and Leafeon, as the former can deal super effective damage to it with Sludge Bomb and the latter can deal massive damage if it sets up a Swords Dance before Gogoat has a chance to set up with Bulk Up. Gogoat shouldn't set up on faster Taunt users such as Misdreavus and Grumpig, as they can prevent it from doing so and then cripple it with Will-O-Wisp or Toxic, respectively. It shouldn't stay in on a Pokemon that can inflict status upon it unless it is carrying Substitute. Gogoat should take advantage of bulkier but weaker Pokemon such as Audino and set up on them. Gogoat shouldn't be switched in when Toxic Spikes is present on its side of the field, as poison cripples it and limits how long it can stay in to set up. Gogoat can switch into and set up on Water-types such as Chinchou, although it ought to be wary of being burnt Scald. Horn Leech or Milk Drink should be used during Gogoat's free turns, especially if it has been weakened. Horn Leech should be the preferred move to use, as it recovers health and it has STAB bonus; use Earthquake if you predict a faster Fire-type to come in, though it's rather risky. If the opponent has a Pokemon such as Gourgeist-XL, Gogoat should use Substitute to avoid status; it shouldn't be switched into Pokemon that can inflict status on it, such as Misdreavus. Team Options Gogoat appreciates Stealth Rock support from Pokemon such as Probopass and Gabite in order to help it take on some of its weaknesses, such as Fire-, Flying-, and Bug-types. It also appreciates Spikes and Toxic Spikes support from Pokemon such as Roselia and Venipede. Poison-types such as Muk are also useful for absorbing Toxic Spikes. Rapid Spinners and Defoggers such as Armaldo and Pelipper are helpful to Gogoat to prevent it from taking unnecessary damage. Grumpig is a good partner for Gogoat, as it can take Ice- and Fire-type attacks that Gogoat is weak to as well as provide Heal Bell support; Audino also works well as a cleric to get rid of Gogoat's status afflictions as well as restore its health with Wish. Gogoat appreciates wallbreakers such as Stoutland and Rapidash, as they can weaken bulkier Pokemon for an easier sweep. Pokemon that are weak to Grass-type moves, such as Golem and Politoed, appreciate Gogoat's immunity to them. Gogoat synergizes well with Fire- and Water-types such as Rapidash and Simipour, as they can cover one another's weaknesses.

By virtue of Gogoat's solid natural bulk and defensive typing, Gogoat makes for a sturdy setup sweeper. Horn Leech is preferred over Leaf Blade's higher power for its recovery, and it threatens out popular walls like Politoed and Gigalith. Rock Slide threatens out Grass-resistant Pokemon like Dustox, Magmar, and Jumpluff, threats that would otherwise safely switch into Horn Leech. Earthquake targets anticipated switch-ins like Swalot, Pignite, and Klang, Pokemon otherwise unfazed by Horn Leech and Rock Slide. Substitute shields Gogoat from status users like Electabuzz and Gourgeist-S; Gogoat's high-HP Substitutes also prevents Dusclops and, most of the time, Bronzor from breaking them with their standard attacking moves. Sap Sipper makes Gogoat a consistent check against Grass-types like Servine and non-Gunk Shot Simisage. 36 Speed EVs enable Gogoat to outspeed Adamant Lairon. Gogoat fits well on bulky and balance builds as both a special wall and wincon simultaneously, being a consistent switch-in against popular Grass- and Water-types like Servine and Politoed. Poison-types like Swalot and Ivysaur and Steel-types like Bronzor and Klang serve as Gogoat's biggest obstacles for successful Bulk Up sweeps; Psychic-types like Duosion and Swoobat can threaten out the aforementioned Poison-types, while Ground-types like Krokorok and Marshtomp can provide provide Stealth Rock support to rack up chip damage and threaten out Gogoat's checks. Krokorok particularly pairs well, providing utility with Knock Off and Pursuit trapping Bronzor. In return, Gogoat can threaten out Water-types like Politoed and Simipour that would threaten the Ground-types. Politoed and Seaking also serve as good partners to threaten out Fire-types like Magmar and Pignite. Cleric support from Wigglytuff can enhance Gogoat's longevity and rid of status moves it may have sustained earlier in the match.
