Similarly, Golurk's poor Speed makes it easy to take advantage of with faster attackers like Inteleon and Starmie, so good defensive teammates like Mantine and Guzzlord are a must.

Set Details Choice Band Golurk hits like a train and 2HKOes almost everything assuming it locks into the right move, making it incredibly scary. Close Combat pairs perfectly with Poltergeist, nailing defensive Dark-types like Guzzlord and Scrafty as well as Snorlax, which can be 2HKOed even after a Curse boost. The final coverage move is often irrelevant due to the high-Base Power and flawless coverage Golurk's three main moves provide, although Stone Edge can OHKO Talonflame even if Golurk is burned and nails other Flying-types like Mantine and Braviary a little harder than Poltergeist or Close Combat would. Alternatively, Heat Crash hits itemless Grass-types such as Vileplume, Rotom-C, and Dhelmise. Physical attackers like Tauros and Toxicroak appreciate Golurk weakening physical walls like Mudsdale and Weezing. Tauros also provides a Ghost immunity, and Toxicroak's Dry Skin allows it to pivot into Water-type attacks.

Moves Ice Punch allows Golurk to hit Grass- and Flying-type Pokemon such as Torterra, Oricorio-E, and Scyther. Drain Punch is an alternative over Shadow Punch that is boosted by Iron Fist and provides a method of recovery, especially against bulky targets like Audino. Set Details An Adamant nature gives Golurk extra power, while a Jolly nature allows it to outspeed threats such as Modest Aurorus and Jolly Aggron. Golurk can additionally use its resistances to Rock- and Poison-type moves to switch into Pokemon like unboosted Lycanroc and Choice-locked Skuntank; however, Golurk's only passable bulk and limited recovery options means that it should switch into such Pokemon sparingly. Team Options Golurk fits on offensive teams because it's a Stealth Rock user that can still apply immediate offensive pressure itself. Fighting-type Pokemon such as Primeape and Hitmonchan also make good partners because they deal with Dark-types such as Absol and Alolan Persian. Primeape provides momentum with U-turn, while Assault Vest Hitmonchan checks special attackers such as Aurorus; in return, Golurk can check Psychic-type Pokemon like Claydol and Musharna for the latter. Lanturn pairs well with Golurk because it can check special attackers such as Rotom-F, Floatzel and Swanna while being able to provide Heal Bell and Volt Switch support. Hariyama in particular synergizes well with Golurk as it possesses a resistance to Ice. Slowing down foes is another way to grant Golurk the advantage against faster teams. Bulky Thunder Wave users such as Musharna, Lanturn, and Probopass, and even Stun Spore Vileplume, can use their bulk and longevity to spread paralysis throughout the opponent's team, increasing the number of Golurk victims.

If Golurk is not used as a lead, it should try to find an opportunity to set up Stealth Rock safely. It usually wants Focus Sash to do so consistently against offensive teams unless they have a weak link, such as a slower wall or weaker attacker, that can be exploited. Against defensive teams, there are more opportunities for Golurk to set up Stealth Rock; it might even get the chance to launch some powerful attacks. Most of them can even make use of U-turn or Volt Switch to maintain momentum and take advantage of Golurk's Stealth Rock. Because Golurk draws in Tangela and Alomomola often, teammates that set up on them are appreciated. Exeggutor can switch in for free on them most of the time and break them down with powerful special attacks. Calm Mind Musharna with Heal Bell can also set up on Alomomola. Roselia is also a good partner, setting up Spikes against these threats. Finally, Gothorita is also an amazing partner for this set, as it traps and eliminates Weezing, Tangela, and Alomomola for Golurk.

This set focuses on Golurk's numerous switch-in opportunities and ability to beat common leads with its STAB moves to set up Stealth Rock throughout the match. Good partners include those that appreciate entry hazards to help them nab extra KOs, such as Ludicolo, Sawsbuck, and Kangaskhan. As this Golurk hates Ice-, Water-, Grass-, and Ghost-type moves, partners that can deal with them are appreciated. Skuntank beats Haunter reliably and appreciates the presence of Stealth Rock. Similarly, Ludicolo can take on Water-types like Samurott for Golurk. Garbodor is another good partner, as it can lay down Spikes to help the entire team, shares good synergy with Golurk, and has its entry hazards spinblocked by Golurk.
