Thanks to its part-Grass typing, Quark Drive, and Psyblade, Iron Leaves's ability to ease the Fairy, Electric, Water, and Ground matchups is hugely appreciated on offensive Psychic teams. When holding Electrium Z, Iron Leaves's Gigavolt Havoc OHKOes Empoleon and Mega Charizard Y unboosted, and at +2, it can instantly take out foes, like Celesteela and Alolan Muk, that think they can safely switch into Iron Leaves. With Life Orb, Iron Leaves deletes Pelipper with Wild Charge, almost always OHKOes Tapu Koko on Electric Terrain with Psyblade, and secures OHKOs on physically defensive Toxapex, offensive Zapdos, and Hippowdon after a boost. Iron Leaves can opt for Close Combat over Wild Charge to blast through Excadrill and Iron Treads, threaten the rare Magnezone, and not be dead weight in matchups like Dragon and Steel, but this choice hurts Iron Leaves's effectiveness in the Water and Flying matchups. Iron Leaves's EVs enable it to receive a Speed boost on Electric Terrain while retaining as much Attack as possible. Iron Leaves appreciates dual screens support from Deoxys-S to use Swords Dance safely, and Deoxys-S can also set Stealth Rock to help chip foes into range of Iron Leaves's boosted attacks. With Stealth Rock chip damage, Iron Leaves's +2 Gigavolt Havoc OHKOes specially defensive Heatran and offensive Mega Scizor, and +2 Life Orb-boosted attacks OHKO offensive Landorus-T and physically defensive Celesteela. Iron Leaves forms a physical wallbreaking duo with Mega Gallade, which helps overwhelm foes like Skarmory, Mandibuzz, and Slowbro. Additionally, Mega Gallade takes out frustrating Steel- and Dark-type foes like Archaludon, Ferrothorn, and Roaring Moon that wall Iron Leaves. Iron Leaves cannot threaten most Dragon-type foes, so Tapu Lele helps patch this weakness with its powerful Moonblast and immunity to Dragon-type moves. Latias also makes a great partner for Iron Leaves, as Latias resists Fire-type moves aimed at Iron Leaves while additionally easing Iron Leaves's task of answering Ground-, Water-, and Electric-type attacks. Latias also provides Healing Wish support to enable Iron Leaves to attempt a second sweep, and its powerful Draco Meteor threatens most Dragon-type foes Iron Leaves struggles against. As a fellow Quark Drive user, Iron Boulder can help Iron Leaves break Electric teams while cleaving through Fire and Flying teams with its blistering speed, and Iron Leaves can help cover Iron Boulder defensively in the Ground and Water matchups.
