Rest in conjunction with Sleep Talk allow Snorlax to keep itself healthy throughout the match and heal itself of crippling status such as burn and Toxic without being entirely passive. However, Snorlax is susceptible to getting shut down by common Taunt users like Sableye, Mew, and Corviknight, as well as by Haze and Whirlwind users such as Toxapex and Hippowdon. Pokemon like Tentacruel and Latias that can beat the Fighting-types that Snorlax fears are helpful teammates. The former can also help remove entry hazards that Snorlax is susceptible to. Clerics such as Sylveon are great teammates, as they can wake Snorlax with Heal Bell, giving it more room to play freely instead of relying on Sleep Talk to pick the desired move. Toxic Spikes Pokemon such as Tentacruel can prove to be great teammates, wearing down checks and counters such as Quagsire with poison.

Take caution when switching into potential Trick users such as Chandelure, as being locked into a move will render Snorlax useless and prevent it from having any sort of recovery. Take advantage of entry hazards by manipulating them so that Snorlax can activate Iapapa Berry on its switch in. Avoid Knock Off from Pokemon such as Scizor and Krookodile at all cost, as without its Iapapa Berry, Snorlax's ability to set up and check special attackers becomes null. Play around Taunt users such as Hydreigon by switching to an offensive teammate that can handle it efficiently, as Snorlax gets completely shut down by Taunt. Team Options Fairy-types like Primarina, Sylveon, and Mega Altaria deal with Fighting- and Dark-type Pokemon that beat Snorlax with Fighting-type STAB moves and Knock Off, respectively. Clerics such as Sylveon and Togekiss are important teammates for this Snorlax set because if Snorlax gets inflicted with Toxic poison, it's nearly useless. Recycle can be used instead of Protect—this allows Snorlax to more safely take hits early in the battle while keeping enough health to Belly Drum later, but not being able to guard against double targets means Snorlax will often be quickly focused down after it boosts. Set Details Gluttony ensures that Iapapa Berry will activate after Belly Drum, healing back all the HP lost. A Brave nature and 0 Speed IVs are recommended to make Snorlax as slow as possible in Trick Room. Maximum Attack is used so that Snorlax hits as hard as possible, and the remaining EVs are used to bolster its Defense. Snorlax can run bulkier spreads if desired, since very few Pokemon can survive a hit from +6 Snorlax even without full Attack investment. Snorlax's great bulk allows it to soak up some attacks, but this set needs to be more careful about preserving its HP so that it remains healthy enough to set up Belly Drum. Snorlax can effectively use Belly Drum at any point in a game—it can come out and boost early on, which forces your opponent to focus on KOing Snorlax while leaving its teammates unchecked. This works well if your opponent doesn't have any threats that can only be defeated by your Snorlax, and if your team has other powerful attackers to serve as wincons after Snorlax goes down. Alternatively, Snorlax can remain in the back until its checks have been removed or weakened and then take the field for a late-game sweep. Team Options Mimikyu is one of the best partners for DrumLax—it is a reliable Trick Room setter, and it has several powerful options for its other moves. When facing foes slower than Mimikyu, Z-Destiny Bond can allow Snorlax to set up for free and simultaneously eliminate an opposing Pokemon. Psych Up can be used to copy Snorlax's boosts after it uses Belly Drum, forcing your opponent to deal with two +6 Attack Pokemon at once. Taunt can be used to stop opposing Taunt, Roar, or Haze users that try to stop Snorlax from boosting. Porygon2 is another reliable Trick Room setter, although it has fewer support options than Mimikyu and does share Snorlax's weakness to the Fighting type. Porygon2 is often used along with Mimikyu so that you can still set Trick Room if Mimikyu sacrifices itself with Z-Destiny Bond instead. Clefairy can use Follow Me to redirect attacks away from Snorlax while it boosts, and Friend Guard provides even more protection. With this support, Snorlax can sometimes sweep even outside of Trick Room. Psych Up users such as Metagross can copy Snorlax's boosts and quickly overwhelm your opponent with enormous offensive pressure. Tapu Fini's Misty Terrain protects Snorlax from burns, which would prevent it from sweeping, and Tapu Fini can hit Fighting-types for super effective damage with Moonblast. Ninetales can use Aurora Veil to boost Snorlax's bulk and make it safer to set up Belly Drum.

A Brave nature and 0 Speed IVs make Snorlax as slow as possible for maximum effectiveness in Trick Room. The HP and Defense EVs allow Snorlax to survive Araquanid's Hydro Vortex and give it an even HP stat, causing Iapapa Berry to activate if it is hit with Super Fang or Nature's Madness. The remaining EVs are dumped in Attack to maximize Snorlax's damage output. Usage Tips This Snorlax can be used alongside a Trick Room setter, but it is also very effective as a Trick Room check on teams that are primarily fast. The mere presence of Snorlax on the field can make an opponent hesitant to set up Trick Room for fear of accelerating its sweep. Against teams that lack Fighting-types or the powerful attackers that can threaten Snorlax with neutral attacks, Snorlax can take the field early in a game and begin boosting right away. Barring untimely critical hits, it is often safe to alternate Curse and Recycle for several turns and then tear through the opposing team. Snorlax has great natural special bulk, so it can be used to sponge damage from attackers such as Tapu Koko and Ninetales. This should be done somewhat carefully to avoid losing Snorlax prematurely—if Snorlax loses its Berry and too much of its health, your opponent will likely double attack it to eliminate it quickly. Team Options Tapu Fini is a great partner for Snorlax—Misty Terrain protects Snorlax from burns, which would hinder its damage output, and Toxic, which would wear it down despite its bulk and recovery. Tapu Fini can also switch in on Fighting-type attacks aimed at Snorlax, and it can use Moonblast to threaten Fighting-types like Pheromosa, Buzzwole, and Hariyama. Arcanine is one of the best answers to Kartana, which can deal major damage to Snorlax through its Defense boosts with Sacred Sword. Arcanine also threatens Celesteela, which Snorlax struggles to damage unless it has boosted several times. Intimidate bolsters Snorlax's low Defense stat even before it starts using Curse, and if Arcanine carries Snarl it can help Snorlax to tank special attacks as well. Garchomp can easily eliminate Muk with Tectonic Rage; Muk can effectively neuter Snorlax by Knocking Off its Berry, which prevents its from being found with Recycle and denies Snorlax recovery for the rest of the game. Snorlax can easily switch in to common attacks that threaten Garchomp, such as Porygon2's Ice Beam, Ninetales's Blizzard, and Fairy-type attacks from Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, and Tapu Fini. Tapu Koko can hit Fighting-types for super effective damage with Dazzling Gleam, while Thunderbolt covers Pokemon such as Celesteela and Drifblim, which can wall Snorlax. Ninetales can set up Aurora Veil to boost Snorlax's bulk even further and make it easier to set up several Curses. Trick Room support from Porygon2 or Mimikyu helps Snorlax to boost and sweep more easily, but Curse Snorlax doesn't rely on Trick Room to be effective.

Belly Drum lets Snorlax OHKO most of the metagame after a boost. Return is the basic STAB move that Snorlax will be attacking with a majority of the time. High Horsepower and Fire Punch hit the Ghost-types that it otherwise wouldn't be able to touch like Mega Gengar and Aegislash and OHKO many Pokemon that resist its Normal STAB attacks at +6 like Mega Metagross. After Belly Drum, High Horsepower OHKOes Tyranitar and even Shuca Berry Heatran, whilst Fire Punch OHKOes Drifblim, non-Focus Sash Kartana, Celesteela, and Ferrothorn. High Horsepower is generally preferred over Fire Punch, as it has better neutral coverage alongside Return. Protect is a strong option to allow Snorlax to stall while a teammate either sets Trick Room or sets up board position or for protection against a predicted Z-Move. Typically Protect should not be dropped in most cases unless you have redirection and Fake Out support to help set up Snorlax. Recycle, bringing back Wiki Berry, effectively functions as a 50% HP recovery move and can be used to take advantage of opposing passive play or when both the opposing Pokemon do little to threaten Snorlax. The combination of Wiki Berry and Gluttony enables Snorlax to immediately regain the 50% HP lost from using Belly Drum, preserving its bulk. Wiki Berry is chosen over other 50%-healing Berries to confuse potential Adamant Bug Bite users like Mega Scizor. The EVs and nature focus on Snorlax's weaker physical bulk whilst providing an even HP number so that Wiki Berry activates after using Belly Drum and ensuring that Tapu Lele's Shattered Psyche cannot OHKO Snorlax in Psychic Terrain. Even with only 4 Attack EVs, Snorlax will OHKO all but the bulkiest of Pokemon and those that resist its STAB attacks—in fact, 252 HP / 4 Def Cresselia has a 62.5% chance to be OHKOed by Return! Minimum Speed makes Snorlax faster under Trick Room. Snorlax can switch in either on weak hits or after a KO, or it can be used as a lead. It should only use Belly Drum if the user feels confident it can then sweep the opposing team (usually mid- or late-game); otherwise, it is safer to either deal chip damage to the opponent with its attacking moves or switch it out and attempt to sweep later. Strong teammates including Trick Room setters such as Cresselia, Gothitelle, and Mimikyu for speed control, Intimidate users such as Landorus-T, Incineroar, and Mega Manectric to mitigate its weaker Defense stat, Fake Out or redirection users such as Incineroar, Amoonguss, and Clefairy to help set up, and Tapu Fini to provide status protection through Misty Terrain.

Curse Snorlax requires less support from the rest of the team than DrumLax, as it does not sacrifice its HP to boost its Attack and also boosts its Defense in the process. However, it is more susceptible to opposing Pokemon's Intimidate lowering its Attack stat and may need multiple boosts before it has sufficient Attack to sweep your opponent. This set trades power for not having to be as committed to setting up as Belly Drum Snorlax. Double-Edge is preferred over Return for the higher damage. With Curse boosting Defense without cutting Snorlax's HP, the recoil isn't as harmful as on a DrumLax set. Return is still viable as a non-recoil STAB attack, however. High Horsepower and Fire Punch both offer useful coverage against Pokemon that resist or are immune to Snorlax's STAB move. High Horsepower is generally preferred over Fire Punch, as it deals more damage against targets weak to both moves like Mega Metagross. High Horsepower is better against Mega Gengar, Tyranitar, and Heatran, whilst Fire Punch is better against Kartana, Celesteela, and Drifblim. Recycle takes advantage of the Defense boosts and helps Snorlax set up multiple Curses. The EVs give Double-Edge a near-guaranteed 2HKO on 236 HP / 116 Def Zapdos without a Curse boost and then maximize its weaker Defense stat. Curselax does not need to run as much Defense investment as DrumLax because of Curse enabling more Attack investment. Minimum Speed is preferred to make Snorlax as slow as possible under Trick Room. Gluttony and Wiki Berry enable an automatic 50% HP recovery when Snorlax loses half its HP, which can be reactivated with Recycle. Snorlax should attempt to sweep mid- to late-game when its threats have been weakened or removed, coming in either after a free switch or on a weak attack like Cresselia's Ice Beam. Afterwards it should usually set up Curse once or twice to boost its stats before attempting to sweep, using Recycle as needed after Wiki Berry has been used to bring it back. This Snorlax requires less team support than Belly Drum Snorlax. However, it still benefits from Trick Room setters such as Cresselia and Gothitelle, and Tapu Fini, which protects Snorlax from status with Misty Terrain, in particular burn and poison. Incineroar threatens Kartana, which can bypass Snorlax's Curse boosts with Sacred Sword, and can switch into Tapu Lele's Shattered Psyche (which in Psychic Terrain threatens an OHKO on Snorlax), whilst providing Fake Out and Intimidate support to help Snorlax set up.

Set Information Facade is Snorlax's strongest STAB move and provides a safeguard against burns and status, ensuring it does massive damage to any foe that doesn't resist the move. Earthquake is used to hit Pokemon that resist Facade such as Melmetal, Gengar, and Rhydon. Toxic can break down bulky Pokemon such as Poliwrath, Rhydon, and Mew. It also can put offensive Pokemon such as Mega Alazazam, Dragonite, and Zapdos on a timer. Fire Blast and Surf can be used in the fourth moveslot for a chance to 2HKO Melmetal and Rhydon, respectively. These moves are especially helpful if Snorlax is burned. Self-Destruct can also put a dent into Pokemon like Dragonite, Poliwrath, and Mew. Rest can be run in the fourth moveslot, but only if Eevee-S is on Snorlax's team. A Sassy nature allows Snorlax to be a mixed tank that can 2HKO almost every Pokemon in the metagame. Careful should only be used if Snorlax runs Self-Destruct. Usage Tips Snorlax is a tank designed to come in on special attackers such as Zapdos, Gengar, and Mew. STAB Self-Destruct with a Choice Band is absurdly powerful, OHKOing any Pokemon that does not resist it and even OHKOing some that do. Immunity allows Choice Band Snorlax to safely switch into Blissey and forces Pokemon such as Lugia and Skarmory to use moves other than Toxic. Thick Fat allows Snorlax to "resist" Ice Beam and Fire Blast, especially from the likes of Mewtwo. A Brave nature should be used if running Fire Blast. Choice Band Snorlax functions best on offense teams that have several other Latios and Latias checks, thereby allowing Snorlax to take a more offensive role, so offensive checks such as Metagross, Ho-Oh, Steelix, Regice, and Deoxys-A are great picks. Earthquake can be used instead to give Snorlax an option to OHKO Rock- and Steel-types like Tyranitar and Golem and Steelix after one round of Spikes damage; Earthquake also allows Snorlax to hit counters like Gengar and Misdreavus. Lastly, Rest gives Snorlax much needed longevity and allows it to use Belly Drum again later in the battle. Team Options DrumLax fits on teams that can spread paralysis and need an immediately wallbreaker, meaning it can fit on both offensive and defensive teams. Offensive teams can support a DrumLax sweep with teammates like Thunder Wave Mew, Thunder Wave Mewtwo, Thunder Wave Zapdos, Tyranitar, and Cloyster; Tyranitar removes Steel- and Ghost-types that can annoy Snorlax if it is not running Earthquake with Fire Blast and crunch, respectively, while Cloyster sets Spikes for DrumLax to net certain KOs against Pokemon like Steelix. On more defensive builds, teammates like Barrier Mewtwo, Celebi, Lugia, and Skarmory can switch into threatening attacks for Snorlax. Paralysis spreaders like Starmie, Steelix, Blissey, and the rarer Miltank are also good teammates to help DrumLax overcome its middling Speed. However, it must be noted that Body Slam is an inferior option in terms of damage, missing the benchmarks that Double-Edge achieves; Body Slam Snorlax also cannot 3HKO opposing Snorlax in the mirror matchup and thus relies on paralyzing it to beat it, unlike Double-Edge, which consistently 3HKOes opposing Snorlax. Furthermore Body Slam versions of Snorlax are completely helpess against Tyranitar and are reliant on slower teammates that appreciate paralysis like Golem, Exeggutor, and Marowak to beat it, whereas Double-Edge variants can potentially overwhelm it with Lovely Kiss. Curse allows Snorlax to dish out powerful attacks, nearly 2HKOing common switch-ins to it, such as Cloyster, Celebi, and Mewtwo, at +1; Curse also makes Snorlax significantly bulkier, allowing it to tank hits more easily while also increasing Snorlax's firepower, forcing its opponent to react quickly to it before it gets out of hand, with common answers being phazing it or poisoning it with Toxic to force it to use Rest. Rest allows Snorlax to stay healthy and consistently check threatening Pokemon, like Zapdos and Mewtwo. Lastly, Lovely Kiss gives Snorlax a tool to put opposing Pokemon to sleep, potentially allowing it to power through its checks with boosted attacks. Snorlax has a very potent sleep-inducing role because common users of Sleep Talk in the format, like Zapdos, don't appreciate tanking Snorlax's hits, meaning that there are no good absorbers of Lovely Kiss and thus no good checks to it. Sleep Talk is an option over Lovely Kiss, sacrificing Snorlax's ability to induce sleep but giving it a massive advantage against very powerful attackers, like Zapdos and opposing Lovely Kiss Snorlax. Sleep Talk Snorlax is one of the very few Pokemon that can deal with an opposing Lovely Kiss Snorlax, as it can tank hits while benefitting from each and every one of the Sleep Talk rolls being favorable for it, either by getting stronger and bulkier with Curse, recovering HP with Rest, of by attacking. Monolax can be played both offensively and defensively, depending on what its team needs. Snorlax's attacks are tough for foes to tank without consistent walls, so one should try and scout what the opponent's main switch-in to Snorlax is, either by using Curse or by attacking. If the situation demands it, however, Snorlax should fearlessly use its other moves to counter-attack the threats it has in front of it; for example, against Growth + Baton Pass teams, Snorlax should utilize its superb bulk and access to Lovely Kiss to put a stop to the opposing Mewtwo that has been passed Growth for a teammate to phaze it afterwards. Team Options Snorlax is extremely flexible, being able to fit on all kinds of teams. Pokemon that can deal with the Rock- and Steel-types that annoy Monolax, like Celebi and Zapdos, respectively, are good teammates for it. Additionally, Explosion and Self-Destruct are also used to take down Snorlax, with every team having one or more Explosion users; because of this, Pokemon that can take these hits, like Steelix and Gengar, pair nicely with Snorlax on offensive teams. Tyranitar and Steelix are especially nice alongside Monolax, as they all share common checks in Barrier Mewtwo, Skarmory, and Cloyster, meaning that they can work together to take them down; Tyranitar additionally can potentially lure in checks to Monolax, like Skarmory and Forretress, and heavily damage them with Fire Blast. Other Pokemon that carry Fire-type moves, like Mewtwo and Exeggutor, are also good partners for Monolax, as they can help Snorlax by taking out checks to it like Steelix, and Exeggutor also helps against Tyranitar, Golem, Cloyster, and Gengar. Monolax appreciates Spikes support from Cloyster or Forretress because most of its checks are grounded. Pursuit users like Tyranitar and Houndoom are also good teammates, as Monolax appreciates Ghost-types like Gengar being taken down.

Set Description Curselax can bait and lure in checks to itself and hit them with super effective moves, where Monolax must land Lovely Kiss to beat them. This allows Snorlax to deal with common checks to itself without using up other team slots or hoping the opposing Pokemon stays asleep for long enough. Double-Edge is the preferred STAB option, as it 3HKOes Mewtwo, Zapdos, Mew, and Ho-Oh even when unboosted while giving Curselax a consistent high-damage move to use against opposing Snorlax. Body Slam is the other option if paralyzing checks to Snorlax, like Tyranitar, Steelix, Mewtwo, Cloyster, and Forretress, is preferred. The choice of coverage move depends on what Snorlax wants to beat, and what its team needs. Earthquake hits Tyranitar, Golem, and Steelix quite hard and works perfectly alongside Body Slam's chance of paralysis, as the aforementioned Pokemon will be slower than Curselax after paralysis; this allows Snorlax to outspeed and 2HKO Tyranitar and Golem while dealing up to 46% to Steelix at +1. Earthquake also targets Gengar, an otherwise hard counter to Snorlax, for devastating damage, 2HKOing it unboosted and OHKOing it at +1. One of Flamethrower or Fire Blast can be used over Earthquake in case Snorlax wants to lure in other Pokemon. Flamethrower allows Snorlax to deal critical damage to Forretress, a Pokemon that usually stays in on Snorlax to use either Spikes or Toxic; however, it barely stops short of OHKOing it. Flamethrower also hits Skarmory, one of the best counters to Snorlax, for a 3HKO and retains the super effective hit on Steelix. Fire Blast is a more powerful move that outright OHKOes Forretress and 2HKOes Skarmory and Steelix, but the low accuracy might be off-putting; Fire Blast also only has 8 PP, which makes it prone to getting PP stalled after it's been revealed. Furthermore, Forretress can be potentially taken down with the combination of Double-Edge and Flamethrower, rendering Fire Blast an inferior option. Overall, Fire-type coverage Curselax is better against defensive or stall teams due to these carrying one of Forretress or Skarmory to check Monolax, both of which get cooked by Fire-type coverage, while Earthquake Curselax is better against offensive teams due to them oftentimes having only Tyranitar and Cloyster as defensive Snorlax checks, both of which get heavily damaged by +1 Earthquake and Double-Edge, respectively. Team Options Curselax's best teammates depend on what coverage option it's running, although there are Pokemon that enjoy having any Curselax variant as a teammate. For example, Pokemon like Tyranitar and Mew are good teammates because they share common checks with Snorlax, namely Cloyster, Steelix, and Barrier Mewtwo. Earthquake Snorlax can take out Steelix with boosted attacks, while Tyranitar beats Barrier Mewtwo one-on-one with the combination of Curse, Roar, and Rest while also 3HKOing Cloyster with Rock Slide. Mew, on the other hand, can break through Snorlax's checks with either a booster Explosion or a boosted Earthquake. Ideally, Curselax will want to be paired with strong attackers or setup sweepers like Marowak, Mewtwo, and Jolteon that can double down on the offensive presence that Curselax offers. Cloyster and Forretress are also good teammates, as Curselax appreciates Spikes wearing down its checks. Both of them can also support Curselax via Toxic and Explosion. Rapid Spin support from Golem and Forretress is also appreciated, as Curselax might be troubled switching into Zapdos if Spikes are up; Golem's Electric immunity can also help with pivoting.

Curse Snorlax is both offensively threatening, as +1 Double-Edge can 2HKO Zapdos, Mew, and Mewtwo and also 2HKO Cloyster after chip damage, and defensively impenetrable. Belly Drum can be used instead if more immediate power is desired; +6 Snorlax can consistently OHKO the entire metagame aside from a few select Pokemon like Skarmory and Lugia, and even Lugia has a change of getting OHKOed by +6 Double-Edge. Earthquake hits Rock- and Steel-type checks like Tyranitar, Golem, Rhydon, and Steelix. It is worth noting that every listed check gets OHKOed by +6 Earthquake, so paralyzing them with Body Slam lets Snorlax take them down with ease. This allows Snorlax to play a supportive role by weakening checks to teammates such as offensive Mewtwo. Running Self-Destruct trades Rest's consistency and the ability to check Zapdos with the ability to annihilate even the bulkiest of Pokemon, like Skarmory and Lugia, after a boost. Snorlax can also lure and remove Zapdos and opposing Snorlax with Self-Destruct for its teammates. Lovely Kiss can be an option over Self-Destruct to give Snorlax a tool to put opposing Pokemon to sleep, potentially allowing it to power through its checks with boosted attacks. Team Options Restless Snorlax commonly sees itself on more offensive teams, as it cannot consistently switch into threats like Zapdos and wall them due to the lack of Rest. It should be used to wallbreaker, hopefully trading two-for-one against the opponent with Lovely Kiss and Self-Destruct. Pokemon like Jolteon, Vaporeon, Heracross, and Lugia are good partners for Self-Destruct Snorlax, as they benefit from Snorlax weakening their checks like Skarmory, Zapdos, and opposing Snorlax. Cloyster sets Spikes for Snorlax and provides its own Explosion to complement the offense. Other Pokemon with access to Self-Destruct or Explosion, like Mewtwo, Mew, Gengar, Steelix, Golem, and Exeggutor, are also good partners.

Set Description Body Slam is mandatory, being one of the most difficult attacks to switch into due to its power and paralysis chance. Reflect increases Snorlax’s physical bulk, giving it the ability to check opposing physical attackers like Rhydon, Golem, Tauros, and opposing Snorlax. With Rest, Snorlax is able to stay healthy to maintain its role throughout the game. Snorlax can either run Earthquake ro Self-Destruct in its last moveslot. Earthquake gives Snorlax coverage to beat Rhydon, Golem, and Gengar. However, Snorlax might lack an offensive presence, especially against Mew and Mewtwo, which love to use it as setup fodder. In order to compensate this lack of power, Snorlax can run Self-Destruct instead of Earthquake. With Self-Destruct, Snorlax threatens almost every Pokemon in the game. However, with this set, Gengar and Rock-types totally wall Snorlax. Reflect Snorlax can repeatedly enter the battle to sponge weaker moves. Since Snorlax carries Body Slam and other physical moves, it's able to put pressure on paralyzed Pokemon. With Reflect, Snorlax becomes the best answer to opposing Snorlax and Tauros, which inflict superficial damage while Reflect is active, and Snorlax strikes them back with a nuclear Body Slam. Mew sets lacking Earthquake are also walled by this Snorlax set, since Mew’s Body Slam inflicts 30% to Snorlax at most. A huge drawback to this set is the passivity of Snorlax once it has used Rest. Like any sleeping Pokemon, Snorlax is fodder for both Amnesia Mewtwo and Swords Dance Mew.

In addition to the terrifying power of Snorlax's Body Slam, foes must be wary of its paralysis chance on non-Normal-types. With the most powerful Self-Destruct in the game, Snorlax can take down almost any opposing Pokemon other than Rhydon, Golem, and the Normal-immune Gengar, creating a favorable situation; the threat of Self-Destruct forces out high-value Pokemon like Mew and Mewtwo, letting Snorlax make further use of its powerful Body Slam while spreading paralysis. Also, note that Body Slam immediately followed by Self-Destruct KOes Mewtwo and nearly KOes Mew. Hyper Beam has incredible wallbreaking potential after Body Slam, letting Snorlax score 2HKOs against Jolteon and paralyzed Chansey; after two Body Slams, Hyper Beam can even KO Mewtwo. Earthquake allows Snorlax to hit Gengar and Rhydon, which may switch into Snorlax's Normal-type moves. Against opposing Normal-types, Snorlax can use Counter on their very likely Body Slam. This will put Tauros into Body Slam KO range or KO it if Tauros lands a critical hit. Counter also allows you to pressure your opponent if they switch Tauros out after using Body Slam, doing good damage thanks to Snorlax’s massive HP stat. Unfortunately, Snorlax has to drop Earthquake or Hyper Beam to fit Counter in its moveset. If Snorlax is not running Earthquake, it is helpless against Gengar and Rock-types, whereas by choosing to drop Hyper Beam, Snorlax loses a great part of its offensive potential. Snorlax mainly acts as a wallbreaker, whch can tear holes in the opposing team with Body Slam. Once on the field, Snorlax is pretty self-sufficient, so it requires little support. However, it needs to switch in safely. At first glance, Snorlax eats low-damaging moves and can easily switch on them. Even though it takes low damage from many attacks, this Snorlax can't recover HP, and chip damage may be enough to wear it down, so be attentive to any damage taken. Paralysis support benefits Snorlax greatly, as switching in on a paralyzed Pokemon often gives Snorlax the opportunity to threaten the now-slower Pokemon—and by extension, the opposing team that may want to protect it—with heavy damage. One of the most appreciated switch-in opportunities is a paralyzed Chansey, as it lacks the firepower to contest Snorlax and is physically frail, being OHKOed by Self-Destruct and 2HKOed by Body Slam + Hyper Beam. Because many RBY Ubers teams rely on Chansey to duel Mewtwo, it's often not worth it to stay in on Snorlax, forcing it out. Another common way to safely bring in Snorlax is to force a paralyzed Pokemon to heal; this lets Snorlax come in safely on moves like Recover, Soft-Boiled, and Rest, granting immense momentum. Snorlax checks, such as Porygon and Cloyster, trouble the common paralysis gameplan. Cloyster is very bulky but is susceptible to Body Slam paralysis; with some luck, Snorlax can break through Cloyster, though there are alternative solutions such as having Mewtwo or Mew use it as setup fodder while it is asleep. Ways to play around opposing Porygon are similar: it's very passive, so you can send almost anything else in and usually force it out. Finally, a Reflect Snorlax might attempt to switch into Snorlax, trying to curb its action. If you can force it to Rest, you can then pressure it with your strong special attackers, such as Mewtwo, while also creating opportunities to switch in later. Self-Destruct can take down a very useful opposing Pokemon, opening doors for the rest of your team while bringing strong allies in with impunity. Self-Destruct is one way to deal with a paralyzed threat, such as a paralyzed Mewtwo, inflicting between 78% and 93% damage, which may KO it or allow you to revenge kill it with a faster Pokemon like Tauros or Mew. Moreover, be careful not to use Self-Destruct too early, as you might need Snorlax later.

Set Description Reflect lets Snorlax take full advantage of its good physical bulk, allowing it to shrug off hits from the likes of Tauros, Rhydon, and opposing Snorlax while still being offensively threatening itself. Hyper Beam is Snorlax's best move against chipped foes; it also allows it to feasibly beat Cloyster and Slowbro one-on-one, but Hyper Beam leaves Snorlax walled by Rock-types and Gengar and has a limited amount of PP. Self-Destruct allows Snorlax to remove or heavily damage a foe after it has fulfilled its role as a wall. It is also a good option to KO a foe in an emergency, and it makes Reflect Snorlax less reliant on its teammates to force progress, although it shares similar issues to Hyper Beam. Lovely Kiss allows Reflect Snorlax to push sleep past paralyzed Chansey, Alakazam, and Starmie to remove foes it may have trouble breaking otherwise, such as Cloyster. However, it leaves Snorlax with only Body Slam as an attacking move, giving it limited PP to threaten things and leaving it walled by Rock-types and Gengar. Reflect allows Snorlax to be a durable check to the tier's best physically offensive threats. Reflect is crucial to Snorlax's longevity, as it allows it to reliably use Rest to heal off damage and paralysis; without Reflect, Snorlax's bulk is not good enough to reliably wake up. Reflect Snorlax is one of the tier's best switch-ins to most opposing Snorlax sets if an ally has already been put to sleep. It's also a decent switch-in to Tauros, though Tauros's high critical hit rate makes any switch-in somewhat unsafe. Snorlax has to utilize its HP carefully to balance its role as an offensive powerhouse with its use as a durable physical tank that can last throughout the game. While it doesn't love getting paralyzed, it is much more willing to take it than sets lacking Rest, as it can reliably cure itself at a later point in the game; Snorlax also still pressures the vast majority of the tier even when it's paralyzed.

Set Description This is the defining set of RBY Tradebacks, combining utility and raw power in a way that completely restructures the rest of the metagame. With just two moves, Body Slam and Lovely Kiss, Snorlax exerts a tremendous amount of pressure on the opposing team the moment it hits the field, threatening to deal significant damage to most of the tier and incapacitating anything that attempts to check it with Lovely Kiss before continuing on its rampage. Earthquake is Snorlax’s best coverage option, dealing heavy damage to Rhydon and Gengar—two of the few Pokemon not threatened by its Body Slam—and allowing Snorlax to scout for Counter on Chansey and opposing Snorlax while still doing serviceable damage. Hyper Beam is the other common choice, allowing Snorlax to threaten KOs against many common Pokemon, such as Chansey, Persian, Tauros, Exeggutor, and Hypno, after only one or two hits. Self-Destruct rounds out this moveset, allowing Snorlax to threaten extreme damage while low on health or when its team needs it to force immediate progress. It OHKOes physically frail foes such as Chansey, Starmie, and Alakazam and does heavy damage to even physically bulky threats, doing a minimum of 72.2% to Slowbro and 64% to Cloyster. However, Snorlax is usually forced to use Self-Destruct rather early due to its awful base Speed. This set single-handedly influences the tier in numerous ways, making the tier faster paced compared to standard OU. With this Snorlax set, it is far less risky for teams to focus on spreading paralysis early, since its physical moves let it reliably push sleep past common sleep blockers, such as Alakazam, Chansey, and Starmie This set makes Snorlax extremely difficult to check because it can rely on allies to paralyze physically frail foes, and it can then put the physically defensive foes that would otherwise withstand its attacks to sleep. After Snorlax has put a foe to sleep, it still is extremely threatening and can continue battering away at the enemy team due to its raw damage output. Despite these upsides, this Snorlax set requires team support due to its lack of defensive utility. Without any form of recovery, Snorlax is not able to reliably switch into physical attackers throughout the game, necessitating it be paired with teammates such as Starmie and Cloyster, which can help cover these roles traditionally filled by Snorlax. This set’s lack of recovery also makes Snorlax vulnerable to getting worn down, as it is often forced to take a hit before it can land an attack or Lovely Kiss due to its poor base Speed. Snorlax benefits greatly from teammates that can spread paralysis, such as Chansey, Alakazam, Starmie, Zapdos, and Exeggutor, which alleviate some of this pressure. This Snorlax set also works well on fast-paced hyper offensive teams that attempt to mow down the foe with multiple Explosion users.

Set Description Amnesia can not only let Snorlax perform as a threatening mixed attacker, but it can also give it a decent defensive profile depending on the moves it uses, allowing it to either play the role of wallbreaker or a less immediately threatening but longer-lasting mixed attacker. The offensive variant uses Blizzard and either Lovely Kiss or Self-Destruct to mow down foes quickly. +2 Blizzard OHKOes Rhydon and Golem, 2HKOes Zapdos, Persian, and Exeggutor, and has a 76.2% chance to 2HKO Tauros. It also 3HKOes Gengar and opposing Snorlax, which allows it to break through opposing Reflect Snorlax. Lovely Kiss allows Snorlax to put a foe it might otherwise struggle against, such as Cloyster or Starmie, to sleep; it also gives Snorlax a good opportunity to set up Amnesia, which it may otherwise struggle to do. Self-Destruct lets it KO or heavily damage a foe once it has been worn down, and it also gives Snorlax a good way to free itself from dire situations. The more defensive variant forgoes Blizzard for Ice Beam and runs Rest in place of Lovely Kiss or Self-Destruct. Ice Beam is much weaker than Blizzard; at +2 it 3HKOes Tauros, Exeggutor, and Zapdos and 4HKOes opposing Snorlax, but it allows Snorlax to stick around for longer and attempt to freeze a foe. Amnesia Snorlax requires paralysis support to make significant progress for its team, as foes such as Chansey and Starmie may thwart it if they are left unparalyzed. Body Slam is also usually not sufficient enough to handle a healthy Cloyster. Offensive Amnesia Snorlax should try to switch in on either a Pokemon using a recovery move or an attack that will deal minimal damage, as it needs to be at or near full HP to pressure the opposing team. Defensive Amnesia Snorlax should attempt to do the same, but it can afford to switch into a stray special attack from the likes of a paralyzed Starmie or Exeggutor if need be. The defensive set can also attempt to get past the likes of Starmie and Reflect Chansey by freezing them.

Set Description Snorlax's good bulk and amazing Attack allow it to function well as an all-out physical attacker, being able to go one-on-one against nearly every single foe with the combination of Body Slam, Hyper Beam, Earthquake, and Self-Destruct. Hyper Beam threatens KOs against many common threats after only one or two hits, such as Chansey, Persian, Tauros, Exeggutor, and Hypno. Earthquake is Snorlax’s best coverage option, threatening heavy damage on Rock-types and Gengar, which aren't threatened by its STAB moves. Earthquake also has the advantage of being able to scout for Counter on Chansey and opposing Snorlax, with Earthquake still putting Chansey into Hyper Beam KO range. Earthquake or Hyper Beam can be dropped in favor of Counter to catch opposing Snorlax and Tauros off guard—landing Counter against Tauros's Body Slam leaves it in Hyper Beam range, and landing Counter on opposing Snorlax's Body Slam deals at least 48.4% to it. Once Snorlax is low on HP, it can use Self-Destruct to punch another hole in the opposing team; physically frail threats such as Chansey, Starmie, and Alakazam are OHKOed and even physically bulky threats such as Cloyster and Slowbro take heavy damage. PhysLax, much like Lovely Kiss Snorlax, is on a timer to get things done due to its lack of recovery and poor Speed. It also needs to play around the threat of paralysis, losing much of its offensive pressure and struggling to break many foes without using Self-Destruct if it takes paralysis. PhysLax can be used on teams that already have a reliable sleeper, such as Exeggutor or Jynx, that also want the extra utility of an additional attack. To make full use of PhysLax, it's vital to know when to preserve it and when to sacrifice it with Self-Destruct; it usually wants to use Self-Destruct when it's either backed into a corner or relatively low on HP. This Snorlax set greatly enjoys heavy paralysis support, so Pokemon such as Starmie, Chansey, and Exeggutor make great teammates to it. This set also pairs well with other Explosion users, such as Exeggutor and Golem, on fast-paced hyper offense teams that aim to overwhelm the opponent. Starmie and Cloyster make good partners to this set, as it lacks defensive utility; without recovery, Snorlax is not able to reliably switch into physical attackers throughout the game, which Starmie and Cloyster can do well in Snorlax's place.
