Choice Scarf Duraludon forms a speed control core with Dragapult, can set up Stealth Rock, and take on Fairy-type Pokemon such as Grimmsnarl and Togekiss that Dragapult struggles to break. Kommo-o can also set up Stealth Rock and check Tyranitar and Snorlax, Pokemon that would otherwise wall Dragapult's attacks. Defog Noivern can clear hazards for Infiltrator Dragapult. Kommo-o and Noivern can also use Taunt to prevent foes from recovering HP or setting hazards, which is especially useful in matchups against Cloyster. Noivern also forms a U-turn core with Dragapult, being able to generate momentum for the team. Choice Scarf turns Dragapult into one of the fastest Pokemon in the metagame, allowing it to outspeed and remove threats such as Swift Swim Kingdra and Choice Scarf Latias. Dragon Darts is Dragapult's most reliable physical STAB move, picking off specially bulky setup sweepers such as Volcarona and Galarian Moltres. Shadow Ball allows Dragapult to pick off weakened threats such as Choice Scarf Tapu Lele and clean against types such as Psychic and Flying late-game. U-turn allows Dragapult's teammates to take advantage of the switches it forces, as well as dent Dark-types such as Tyranitar and Zarude that like to switch in on Dragapult. Thunder Wave cripples switch-ins like Celesteela, setup sweepers like Galarian Moltres, and Sucker Punch users such as Cinderace, giving Dragapult's teammates an easier time handling these threats. Infiltrator allows Dragapult to deal with common Substitute users such as Kyurem, Hydreigon, and opposing Dragapult. A Hasty nature with Choice Scarf allows Dragapult to outspeed threats such as Adamant Dragon Dance Dragapult, Zeraora, Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan, and Choice Scarf Weavile. Choice Scarf Dragpult lacks the wallbreaking and sweeping prowess of Dragon Dance sets, so wallbreakers such as Kyurem and Hydreigon are greatly appreciated, as are physical setup sweepers like Dragonite, Kyurem, and Garchomp. Hydreigon covers for Dragapult's Ghost and Dark weaknesses and can break down Steel, Psychic, Ghost, and Poison teams by threatening walls such as Ferrothorn, Slowbro, Aegislash, and Toxapex, which Dragapult struggles with. Kyurem can remove bulky Flying-, Water-, and Ground-types such as Mantine, Gastrodon, and Tapu Fini with a Choice Specs or SubRoost set. Dragalge provides a special pivot that can sponge attacks from Clefable and Tapu Fini while adding utility with Toxic Spikes. Garchomp is a good wallbreaker and threatens Flying, Poison, and Dragon teams with a Swords Dance set, or it provides Stealth Rock and phazing to wear down the opposing team with a defensive set. Iron Defense Kommo-o deals with Steel-, Dark-, and Ice-types such as Melmetal, Tyranitar, and Weavile, which Dragapult struggles with.

Dragon Claw is the more consistent option for single target damage, while Dragon Darts hits both targets and can potentially deal more single target damage thanks to its smart targeting, causing it to avoid targeting a Fairy-type or Pokemon using Protect, which makes both hits attack a singular target. Phantom Force is Dragapult's most powerful Ghost-type STAB move that allows it to dodge incoming attacks and break Protect for itself and its allies, creating some valuable openings. However, its charging turn leaves the opponent open to appropriately responding to the incoming attack, such as with Normal-type switch-ins like Porygon2 and Indeedee or attacks after Phantom Force for the KO. Dragon Dance brings Dragapult's Attack to impressive levels, making it an immensely dangerous sweeping threat after a single boost. At +1, Dragapult OHKOes Zygarde with Dragon Claw, and it can OHKO Urshifu-R with Phantom Force at +2. The extra Speed can also help in certain scenarios, such as outspeeding Zygarde in Tailwind after a boost. Protect allows Dragapult to avoid potentially dangerous moves and gives it a better opportunity to set up by allowing allies such as Blastoise and Rillaboom to come to its aid with Follow Me and Fake Out. Life Orb boosts Dragapult's power significantly, allowing it to KO foes like bulky Necrozma with Phantom Force and Defensive Kyurem-B with Dragon Claw, at +1 Attack. Clear Body's primary function is to block Intimidate, but it can also come in handy for some stat-lowering moves such as Parting Shot and Icy Wind. A Jolly nature is required to outspeed Zygarde in Tailwind at +1.

Dragapult's dual STAB moves provide great neutral coverage against the majority of the tier, if not hitting them super effectively. Draco Meteor in particular is used for high burst damage and hitting bulky Dragon types like Zygarde and Kyurem-B, while Shadow Ball deals more consistent damage and is minimally resisted in the tier, making it a safer STAB move to lock into if Dragapult needs to attack consecutively. Flamethrower allows Dragapult to hit Grass- and Steel- types such as Rillaboom, Amoonguss, and Genesect. Genesect is OHKOed, while Rillaboom and Amoonguss are dented by it. Fire Blast has less than perfect accuracy, but it guarantees a 2HKO on Rillaboom and Amoonguss. U-turn can allow Dragapult to keep momentum, as its great Speed and ability to force switch-ins often grant it solid opportunities to rotate out, while Hydro Pump allows Dragapult to hit Heatran, Incineroar, and Diancie. Life Orb is also an option over Choice Specs, giving Dragapult the option to switch moves, but reducing its overall longevity and cutting into its power noticeably. If running Life Orb, the fourth slot should go to Protect. Infiltrator allows Dragapult to attack Volcanion and Zygarde hiding behind Substitute. A Timid nature is needed to Speed tie against other Dragapult, while Modest is also an option to hit considerably harder, and guarantees the 2HKO on Heatran with Shadow Ball.

With Curse to inflict on its foes and sacrifice itself quickly, Dragapult makes a unique and speedy setter of Reflect and Light Screen. Dragon Darts is recommended for OHKOing Modest Pheromosa. Shadow Ball however, will hit Fairy-types such as Mimikyu if needed. Although going without attacks is risky, Thunder Wave can cripple Pokemon that attempt to set up on Dragapult, such as Cinderace and Galarian Moltres. Inflitrator is usually best in case Dragapult comes across a Substitute using foe or opposing screens, but Cursed Body can potentially punish attacking foes as Dragapult sets up screens. Note that Curse will ignore Substitute regardless of Dragapult's ability. EV Spreads 196 HP / 44 Atk / 4 Def / 12 SpD / 252 Spe with Jolly: This spread ensures Dragapult OHKOs Pheromosa with Dragon Darts, and avoids a Special Attack boost from Porygon2. 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe with Timid: If not using physical attacks, use this spread to maximize Dragapult's Speed and bulk.

Dragapult makes for a fairly effective Dynamax sweeper. This is in large part thanks to Steel Wing, which turns into the valuable Max Steelspike, which with Max Wyrmwind's Attack lowering, is perfect for getting Weakness Policy activated. Phantom Force turns into a powerful Max Phantasm when Dynamaxed, and is also useful for stalling out opposing Dynamax turns later. Dragon Dance makes Dragapult less reliant on Dynamaxing to sweep, making it a great back-up option for sweeping. Fly on the other hand, is for going all in on Dynamax, allowing Dragapult to boost its Speed with Max Airstream. Clear Body is the prefered ability for Dragapult, ensuring that Intimidate doesn't ruin its hard work. Infilitrator is still a good alternative though, in case certain Substitute Pokemon or dual screens are problematic for your team. EV Spreads 164 HP / 236 Atk / 4 Def / 12 SpD / 92 Spe with Jolly: This spread allows Dragapult to outspeed Timid Naganadel, while having enough bulk to survive Life Orb Cinderace's Max Darkness while Dynamaxed. The Special Defense EVs ensure that Porygon2 does not get a Special Attack boost from Download. 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe with Jolly: This Dragapult maximizes its Speed so it can outpace Tapu Koko and Adamant Pheromosa, at the cost of bulk.

Dragapult's impressive Speed stat means it can effectively stall out Dynamax turns against bulkier Dynamaxers, such as Metagross and Glastrier. Will-O-Wisp is the best support option for punishing physical Pokemon, and it goes well with the Leftovers that keep Dragapult healthy. However, Thunder Wave is notable for crippling Pokemon that don't fear being burned, such as Galarian Moltres and Blaziken. The given EV spread allows Dragapult to outpeed up to Adamant Pheromosa, while giving Dragapult maximum recovery from Leftovers. The Attack investment is enough to OHKO Pheromosa with Dragon Darts, and even OHKO Moxie Salamence. The 4 Special Defense EVs prevent Porygon2 from gaining a Special Attack boost from Download, meaning the unaccounted for extra 4 EVs may go anywhere but Defense.

Dragapult's Special Attack stat may not be impressive, but its coverage is good enough for it to be a good, speedy Special Attacker. Thunderbolt is Dragapult's most damaging move against Tapu Fini, making it highly recommended. Fire Blast roasts Ferrothorn, and does plenty of damage to Celesteela. U-turn lets Dragapult function as a decent pivot and scout despite it being weak. Will-O-Wisp can catch foes such as Weakness Policy Metagross off guard. Thunder Wave, when paired with a Focus Sash, can effectively cripple speedy sweepers. Timid is the prefered nature, to outspeed Adamant Pheromosa, Tapu Koko, and Choice Scarf Dracovish. A Modest nature is still acceptable if more power is needed though, as it still outspeeds Timid Naganadel. Modest is particularly best for Choice Scarf sets. Items Life Orb is Dragapult's best option for damage output, especially if it Dynamaxes. Choice Scarf may seem odd, but it allows Dragapult to outspeed key threat such as Pheromosa and Choice Scarf Landorus-T. Choice Specs is Dragapult's most powerful item when not Dynamaxed. Focus Sash can surprise particularly powerful foes such as Cinderace.

Dragapult may have a shallow physical movepool, but its Speed and good STAB moves still make it a dangerous foe. Phantom Force may seem like a strange choice, but few Pokemon resist Ghost-type attacks, and it can also be used to stall out Dynamax turns. U-turn makes Dragapult a good pivot, while Sucker Punch lets Dragapult pick off weakened faster Pokemon. Dragon Dance lets Dragapult outspeed almost any threat, making it a good sweeper at certain times. Will-O-Wisp can make for a surprising move that cripples Dragapult's physical foes, punishing Sucker Punch Cinderace in particular if it has already changed types with Libero. Thunder Wave is also an acceptable option for crippling faster foes, which works especially well with Focus Sash. Inflitrator is a wonderful ability, allowing Dragapult to ignore Substitutes, and both Reflect and Light Screen. Clear Body still has merit, ensuring Intimidate Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Salamence, and Gyarados can't cut your Attack. Jolly is the prefered nature for outspeeding up to Adamant Pheromosa, Timid Tapu Koko, and Choice Scarf Dracovish. Adamant doesn't outpeed these three threats, but in exchange Dragapult gets extra power while still outspeeding Timid Naganadel. It's also the prefered nature for Choice Scarf Dragapult. Items Life Orb gives Dragapult the most versatility for sweeping late-game, especially if it Dynamaxes. Focus Sash works well with Dragon Dance, giving Dragapult a near guaranteed chance to set up. Choice Scarf may seem absurd with Dragapult's Speed, but it lets Dragapult outspeed important Choice Scarf threats such as Landorus-T and Naganadel. Choice Band is also an acceptable item for increased damage output, and pairs well with U-turn.
