戰術分析

Choice Scarf Gholdengo is a great speed control option in the tier capable of outrunning and revenge killing premier offensive threats like Dragapult, Zamazenta, Dragonite, Kyurem, and Enamorus. Trick is a good utility move that allows it to Choice-lock Pokemon like Ting-Lu and Gliscor looking to check it as well as shutting down healthy setup sweepers like Dragonite and Zamazenta, hampering their effectiveness. Recover can be utilized to keep Gholdengo healthy, especially in the face of entry hazards, once it has used Trick, allowing it to check bulky foes like Clefable and some variants of Zamazenta more consistently. Alternatively, Nasty Plot can be used to turn Gholdengo into a decent wallbreaker once it has successfully used Trick to get rid of its Choice Scarf. Focus Blast enables Gholdengo to hit Dark-types like Kingambit, Hisuian Samurott, and Ting-Lu. Thunder Wave provides even more form of speed control for the team, particularly helpful against healthy threats it can't immediately OHKO yet like Ogerpon-W and Darkrai, especially as the former is immune to Trick. Tera Ghost boosts the power of its spammable Shadow Ball, letting it clean up late-game more easily; similarly, Tera Steel can be used to better sweep through weakened foes with Make It Rain and is helpful in letting it revenge kill neutral foes like Ogerpon, Darkrai, and Great Tusk more easily with an OHKO. Tera Fighting gives Gholdengo a resistance to Dark-type moves, most notably Sucker Punch from Kingambit, and it gives Focus Blast a STAB boost. Gholdengo fits well on bulky offense and balance teams, where it functions as a great revenge killer. Teammates that benefit from Gholdengo's presence include Pokemon that appreciate its ability to handle fast and strong offensive threats. For instance, setup sweepers like Calm Mind Raging Bolt and Bulk Up Great Tusk can capitalize on Gholdengo's ability to revenge kill and weaken opposing threats like Dragapult and Choice Specs Enamorus, creating opportunities for Gholdengo's partners to set up and sweep. Great Tusk's access to Rapid Spin also synergizes well with Gholdengo, which is punished by Spikes, so getting rid of them gives Gholdengo more opportunities to switch in. Entry hazard setters like Gliscor, Skarmory, and Ting-Lu also benefit from Gholdengo's ability to serve as an emergency spinblocker. Due to its vulnerability to Dark-type Pokemon like Kingambit and Hisuian Samurott, exacerbated by its reliance on the inaccurate Focus Blast and the inherent risk of being Choice-locked, Gholdengo greatly benefits from the support of teammates that check the aforementioned foes, such as Zamazenta and Iron Valiant. Rillaboom also deserves a special mention as a teammate, as its Grassy Terrain weakens the super effective Earthquake, in addition to acting as a check to foes like Ting-Lu. In return, Gholdengo helps Rillaboom by handling threats that would otherwise be problematic for the latter, such as Corviknight and Skarmory.

戰術分析

Gholdengo's ability to block entry hazard removal while checking key metagame threats is exacerbated greatly by defensive investment, and this bulk can make a boosted Gholdengo all the more deadly. Dual STAB moves hit a majority of the OU tier, with Make It Rain's high base power making up for a lack of offensive investment by OHKOing targets like Landorus-T after a single boost. Dazzling Gleam is an alternative to handle Dark-types without the Special Attack drop and notably gives Gholdengo a way to hit Hisuian Samurott, though the loss in power leaves Gholdengo unable to OHKO even an unboosted Iron Valiant. Thunderbolt can instead be used to handle Hisuian Samurott while immediately threatening pivots like Corviknight and Alomomola, and it also hits Moltres for massive damage after a boost. However, running Thunderbolt with Shadow Ball has the caveat of leaving Gholdengo walled by Ting-Lu and Ursaluna, and pairing it with Make it Rain instead solves this but makes Gholdengo weaker against Raging Bolt and Iron Treads. Focus Blast can OHKO Kingambit while dealing with other Dark-types, though no offensive investment means Pokemon like Iron Treads and Darkrai often withstand a single hit. Gholdengo's versatility extends to its item choice; Air Balloon is its best option to facilitate spinblocking against foes like Great Tusk and Iron Treads and let it act as a one-time check to Kyurem or a weakened Dragonite. Leftovers more directly enhances its longevity, putting it out of range of a 2HKO from attacks like Life Orb Zamazenta's Crunch and Pecharunt's Shadow Ball. Heavy-Duty Boots is an alternative on teams lacking consistent entry hazard removal and means Gholdengo doesn't rely on Air Balloon for a Spikes immunity. Grassy Seed is an excellent option on Grassy Terrain teams to further bolster Gholdengo's bulk while also weakening Knock Off, and Shuca Berry can let Gholdengo lure in and eliminate foes like Great Tusk and Kyurem. 60 Speed EVs ensure that Gholdengo will always outspeed Jolly Kingambit, with the remaining EVs invested fully in HP and Defense. A Bold nature means that Gholdengo is never OHKOed by Jolly Great Tusk's Headlong Rush. Gholdengo's Speed can be dropped further, with a spread of 252 HP / 244 Def / 12 Spe still outspeeding uninvested Cresselia and guaranteeing that Gholdengo will always live Iron Valiant's +2 Knock Off. If using Grassy Seed, Gholdengo can instead opt for some Special Defense investment; for example, 252 HP / 108 Def / 88 SpD / 60 Spe with a Calm nature is enough to survive a Tera Ghost Shadow Ball from opposing Gholdengo. Tera Fairy is Gholdengo's most consistent defensive Tera type, flipping its matchup against Dark-type attacks from foes like Hisuian Samurott, Darkrai, and Swords Dance Iron Valiant. This boosts Dazzling Gleam significantly, letting Gholdengo OHKO bulkier targets such as Zamazenta and Raging Bolt after a single Nasty Plot. Tera Water is an alternative typing that lets Gholdengo wall Cinderace and beat Ceruledge after its Air Balloon has been consumed, also making it a more useful Pokemon into sun and being neutral to the attacks of most of the metagame. However, weaknesses to Freeze Dry Kyurem and Ogerpon-W are not always desirable. Tera Flying can be considered to more permanently deal with Gholdengo's Ground weakness and surprise foes like Great Tusk while letting it set up on Ting-Lu, though a weakness to Stealth Rock and STAB options from common OU foes like Kyurem, Raging Bolt, and Zapdos leaves Gholdengo less able to perform its role as both defensive stalwart and wincon. With such heavy bulk investment, Gholdengo provides teams with an excellent way of preventing opponents from removing entry hazards. It therefore finds a home on bulky offense and balance teams that make use of its defensive profile and ability to act as a wincon. Ting-Lu is Gholdengo's best friend, able to set up both Stealth Rock and Spikes while checking Darkrai, Iron Moth, and opposing Gholdengo with ease. In return, Gholdengo's typing lets it switch into Zamazenta, as well as Fairy-type attacks from Iron Valiant, Hatterene, and Enamorus. Gliscor is another bulky entry hazard setter that likes being paired with a Kyurem check, with Gholdengo appreciating it absorbing Knock Off, removing Heavy-Duty Boots from foes like Great Tusk and Galarian Weezing, and annoying Cinderace and Moltres. Landorus-T is an alternative Stealth Rock setter that can switch in on and force damage against Great Tusk, and Hisuian Samurott finds utility outside of just setting Spikes with its ability to check Iron Moth and opposing Gholdengo; Hisuian Samurott also has Knock Off to increase the value of hazards Gholdengo keeps up against Heavy-Duty Boots users like Alomomola, Zapdos, and Galarian Weezing. Gholdengo's vulnerability to Dark-types and particularly Kingambit necessitates dedicated support, with Great Tusk being a powerful option that can also set Stealth Rock or use Knock Off if required. Zamazenta is another Kingambit answer with a better matchup against Hisuian Samurott, and its propensity to invite in foes like Galarian Slowking and Clefable provides free setup opportunities for Gholdengo. Zamazenta has further synergy as a late-game cleaner on the bulkier hazard stack teams that Gholdengo thrives on, and sets packing Roar can even shuffle foes over the entry hazards that Gholdengo keeps up. On bulkier teams, Moltres makes for a solid check to Kingambit as well as Cinderace, while Clefable can switch in on Great Tusk and Gliscor with relative ease, set up Stealth Rock, and use Knock Off on Pokemon like Galarian Slowking and Pecharunt that are reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots. Even Skarmory can be considered to comfortably answer Kingambit while providing Spikes support to synergize with Gholdengo. Offensively, Gholdengo's ability to keep hazards up helps other sweepers like Dragonite, with Gholdengo walling Corviknight and Iron Defense Zamazenta that Dragonite cannot break through alone. Dragonite also checks Ogerpon-W and Ceruledge to an extent, Pokemon that Gholdengo cannot answer despite its defensive investment. Ogerpon-W is an offensive partner that can work in tandem with Gholdengo to break Raging Bolt and Dragonite, and its Knock Off can maximize the impact of the hazards that Gholdengo protects by removing Heavy-Duty Boots from foes like Zapdos, Tornadus-T, and Pecharunt. Darkrai similarly provides Gholdengo with a fast, strong partner that can weaken Ting-Lu and use Knock Off, notably on specially defensive foes like Clodsire and Blissey, and it very much appreciates Gholdengo's ability to check Zamazenta. One archetype that Gholdengo fits on is Grassy Terrain offense, as the Terrain's effect pairs with Grassy Seed to significantly weaken Earthquake from Pokemon like Dragonite and Ting-Lu. Rillaboom also gives Gholdengo entry points against Corviknight and Galarian Weezing, and it can help weaken or eliminate shared checks such as Cinderace, Moltres, and Raging Bolt.

戰術分析

Gholdengo combines its defensive typing and solid bulk to become a prolific status spreader, using Thunder Wave to check threats like Zamazenta, Dragonite, and Ogerpon-W. Hex perfectly combines with Thunder Wave, giving Gholdengo the power to nearly always 2HKO uninvested paralyzed Zamazenta. It also prevents Gliscor from switching in freely on Thunder Wave and attempting to set up entry hazards on it. Recover augments Gholdengo's survivability, giving it the ability to repeatedly switch into Zamazenta's Crunch and Ogerpon-W's Ivy Cudgel. Make It Rain strikes those that would normally switch into Thunder Wave well such as Great Tusk, Garganacl, and Hatterene. It additionally hits Kyurem, Enamorus, and Glimmora super effectively. Other options can be used over Make It Rain, however. Dazzling Gleam hits Dark- and Dragon-types like Darkrai, Hisuian Samurott, Raging Bolt, and Dragonite. Focus Blast, meanwhile, is the strongest option against Kingambit; Focus Blast also hits Darkrai and Hisuian Samurott much harder than Dazzling Gleam, with it being able to OHKO Darkrai after Stealth Rock, while also hitting Iron Treads for super effective damage. Air Balloon allows Gholdengo to switch into attacks like Great Tusk's Headlong Rush, Kyurem's Earth Power, and Dragonite's Earthquake. Air Balloon also lets Gholdengo spinblock effectively in front of Great Tusk and lets it be immune to Spikes. Other options such as Leftovers allows Gholdengo to further boost its longevity and preserve Recover PP; Leftovers lets Gholdengo always be able to take two Life Orb Crunches from Zamazenta. Shuca Berry grants Gholdengo the ability to take on Dragonite's Earthquake and Great Tusk's Headlong Rush in order to either paralyze or hit back; Shuca Berry has the advantage of being harder to play around with other attacks compared to Air Balloon. Similarly, Colbur Berry lets Gholdengo brawl against Swords Dance Iron Valiant's Knock Off and Darkrai's Dark Pulse. Rocky Helmet wears down foes using contact moves such as Zamazenta's Crunch while punishing U-turn from Tornadus-T, Corviknight, and Rillaboom. Tera Fairy gives Gholdengo the ability to stand up to attacks like Iron Valiant's Knock Off, Hisuian Samurott's Ceaseless Edge, and Kingambit's Sucker Punch. Tera Fairy additionally maintains the ability to check Zamazenta after it has Terastallized and has the side benefit of powering up Dazzling Gleam to be able to 2HKO Assault Vest Hisuian Samurott. Tera Water lets Gholdengo resist Fire-type moves like Cinderace's Pyro Ball and Iron Moth's Fiery Dance while being better into threats like Walking Wake. 60 Speed EVs are used to let Gholdengo outspeed Jolly Kingambit while maximizing its Defense, letting it take hits like Great Tusk's Headlong Rush and two Ogerpon-W's Knock Offs. Outspeeding Kingambit also lets Gholdengo get the jump on foes like Moltres and Bold Pecharunt. Alternatively, Gholdengo can run a spread of 248 HP / 232 Def / 28 Spe to outspeed paralyzed Dragapult. The added bulk allows Gholdengo to take an Adamant Tera Dark Choice Band Crunch from Zamazenta and survive an offensive Cinderace's Pyro Ball after a layer of Spikes. Gholdengo usually finds itself on bulky offense teams, which appreciate its ability to repeatedly be a nuisance for the opponent while being a efficient spinblocker. These teams additionally like the paralysis support Gholdengo brings to allow strong wallbreakers to make progress more easily. Entry hazard setters such as Hisuian Samurott, Great Tusk, and Ting-Lu all appreciate Gholdengo blocking Corviknight's Defog and Great Tusk's Rapid Spin; they also appreciate Gholdengo checking threats like Zamazenta, Kyurem, and Dragonite. Dark-types like Kingambit and Darkrai appreciate Gholdengo handling Fighting-types like Iron Valiant and Zamazenta, while Gholdengo appreciates them being able to safely deal with Ghost-types like Dragapult and opposing Gholdengo. Additional support from teammates like Zamazenta and Moltres creates a magnificent defensive core with Gholdengo. In particular, Moltres handles Cinderace and Great Tusk effectively, and Zamazenta can safely deal with Kingambit and Hisuian Samurott. Gholdengo in return is able to reliably face Ogerpon-W and Iron Valiant. Fast teammates like the aforementioned Zamazenta and Iron Valiant enjoy Gholdengo targeting Galarian Slowking and slower variants of Pecharunt with both paralysis and a super effective Hex, ensuring they are able to sweep without any potential walls. Teammates that can directly target Ground-types like Ting-Lu and Gliscor, such as Ogerpon-W and Kyurem, are highly appreciated, giving Gholdengo the ability to spread paralysis freely into their checks like Zamazenta and Iron Crown, respectively. In addition, Ogerpon-W is able to lay Spikes that Gholdengo can spinblock for and threatens Iron Treads effectively. Kyurem, meanwhile, is able to shred Zapdos and has the side benefit of handling Ogerpon-W; its ability to deal with them allow Gholdengo to preserve its health.

戰術分析

Thanks to Good as Gold and excellent defensive typing that lets it set up on Pokemon like Galarian Slowking and Clefable, Nasty Plot Gholdengo is a premier wallbreaker in the metagame. Shadow Ball gives it a no-drawback and spammable STAB move to hit most foes neutrally, particularly valuable against opposing Gholdengo. Make it Rain's sheer power is great against Garganacl and Kyurem while hitting neutral threats like Ting-Lu, Zamazenta, and Great Tusk hard. Thunderbolt takes care of Moltres, Hisuian Samurott, and Alomomola. Dazzling Gleam hits foes like Hisuian Samurott, Ting-Lu, and Raging Bolt reliably while being a solid STAB move when paired with Tera Fairy. Focus Blast hits the many Dark-types in the tier; it notably targets Kingambit while hitting Ting-Lu and Hisuian Samurott harder than Dazzling Gleam. Recover gives Gholdengo a way to stay in the battle for longer, particularly against chip damage like Garganacl's Salt Cure, and leverage its defensive utility against the aforementioned threats. Psyshock turns it into a stallbreaker, as it is useful for breaking through special walls that would otherwise contest with Gholdengo, like Calm Mind Blissey and Clodsire. The Ground immunity granted by Air Balloon allows Gholdengo to set up in the face of Gliscor, spinblock Great Tusk and Iron Treads, become a sturdier switch-in against foes like Kyurem and Dragonite, and avoid damage from Spikes. Metal Coat alongside Tera Steel can be used on Make It Rain variants to propel its power to overwhelm checks like Ting-Lu and even OHKO resistant ones like bulky Kingambit and Moltres at +2. On bulkier teams that lack any entry hazard removal, Heavy-Duty Boots can be used instead due to Air Balloon's temporary immunity to Spikes being less appealing with Gholdengo's necessity to switch around more often. Shuca Berry is an option to lure in Ground-type revenge killers like Great Tusk and Landorus-T to flip the matchup against them; the lack of immunity over Air Balloon is made up for Gholdengo's freedom to take on other attacks early in the game as well as hiding Gholdengo's item from the opponent. Gholdengo can make great use of a wide variety of Tera types, both for offensive and defensive purposes: Tera Fairy boosts Dazzling Gleam and gives it a sudden resistance to Dark, potentially mitigating the damage from moves like Knock Off, Crunch, and Sucker Punch from Iron Valiant, Zamazenta, and Kingambit, respectively. Tera Fighting is an option to boost its Focus Blast, notably having good odds to OHKO Ting-Lu at +2, while also providing a Dark resistance similar to Tera Fairy. Any team can make great use of Gholdengo’s ability to spinblock and prevent Defog, but an offensive team would make the best use of its wallbreaking power. Offensive hazard-stacking cores featuring Pokemon such as Glimmora, Hisuian Samurott, and Deoxys-S can use Gholdengo’s help to keep the pressure on, with Gholdengo in return preventing foes from removing said hazards easily. Powerful wallbreakers like Ogerpon-W and Darkrai provide support for Gholdengo to whittle down defensive cores together. Without using Tera, Gholdengo struggles against the Dark-types and Ghost-types that are so common in the tier, such as Kingambit, Hisuian Samurott, and Dragapult. Having teammates that can check them, like Zamazenta, Enamorus, and Hisuian Samurott give Gholdengo some extra protection and a way to strike back against them. Even if it's using Air Balloon, having another Ground-immune Pokemon, such as Gliscor or Tornadus-T, is extremely helpful to mitigate that weakness. Gholdengo is vulnerable to fast threats such as Dragapult, Walking Wake, and Weavile. Having some form speed control on the team, such as Choice Scarf Enamorus and Meowscarada or priority users like Weavile and Raging Bolt, to counteract these threats is extremely valuable.
