Groudon serves as a bulky attacker that leverages its Assault Vest and natural bulk to withstand physical and special attacks while maintaining strong offensive pressure; therefore, performing well against key special attackers like Miraidon, Calyrex-S, and Terapagos by leveraging its enhanced special defense to withstand their attacks. Heat Crash benefits from Groudon's high weight, enabling it to inflict greater damage on threats like Amoonguss and Flutter Mane. Thunder Punch punishes Pelipper and Tornadus, allowing Groudon to pressure common weather setting support Pokemon that might otherwise hinder its effectiveness. High Horsepower provides a single-target alternative to Precipice Blades, bypassing Wide Guard and providing greater reliability. Stomping Tantrum doubles in power if Groudon's previous move fails, making it useful in situations where it gets flinched by Fake Out or if it misses an attack like Precipice Blades, allowing it to hit back harder the next turn. The invested Speed EVs allow Groudon to outspeed key threats under Tailwind, including Timid Calyrex-S, and common Choice Scarf users like Urshifu-R and Chi-Yu. Assault Vest further enhances its special bulk, enabling it to survive powerful hits such as Astral Barrage from a +2 Choice Specs Calyrex-S. Tera Fire boosts its Fire-type attacks and prevents burns from moves like Incineroar's Will-O-Wisp. With 108 Attack EVs and a Tera Fire, Groudon's Heat Crash guarantees an OHKO on standard Landorus and Ogerpon-H. Calyrex-I can OHKO Groudon unless it Terastallizes, while Kyogre, Terapagos, and Pelipper can override its sun, weakening its Fire-type moves and leaving it vulnerable to Water-type attacks. Tornadus often carries Rain Dance to disrupt Groudon's weather control. Incineroar is another major obstacle due to the combined effect of Intimidate, Knock Off removing its Assault Vest, and Fake Out preventing Groudon from attacking. To mitigate these weaknesses, Groudon benefits from strong team support from the likes of Volcarona and Gouging Fire, which make excellent partners, with Volcarona providing Tailwind to boost Groudon's Speed and Rage Powder to protect it from attacks. Gouging Fire benefits from sun with Protosynthesis, hitting hard with Flare Blitz while supporting the team with Howl and Breaking Swipe. Flutter Mane and Raging Bolt appreciate the Protosynthesis activation from sun, which helps Flutter Mane against Calyrex-S, while Raging Bolt pressures Kyogre, Pelipper, and Tornadus, which are common threats to Groudon. Chien-Pao is a strong partner that can increase the damage of physical attacks while using its high Speed and access to Sucker Punch to check faster threats. Urshifu-S is an effective partner for Groudon against Terapagos, using powerful Fighting-type attacks such as Close Combat to pressure it.

戰術分析
Groudon's role is that of a powerful attacker that uses Drought to power up Heat Crash and Precipice Blades for a STAB spread move. Its Ground typing gives it an immunity to Miraidon's Electric-type STAB moves and a super effective STAB move into some of the top Restricted Pokemon such as Miraidon, Zacian-C, and Zamazenta-C. Groudon uses Swords Dance to set up and be able to OHKO foes such as Zamazenta-C and Calyrex-I. Groudon can also utilize Thunder Punch to hit rain setters like Tornadus, Pelipper, and Kyogre. Helping Hand allows lets Groudon to further boost its teammate's damage output. Groudon's ability to set sun benefits Pokemon such as Flutter Mane or and Raging Bolt. Groudon uses Clear Amulet mainly to block Incineroar's Intimidate and Parting Shot. The Speed investment allows Groudon to outspeed -1 Ogerpon and Calyrex-S in Tailwind. The Defense EVs let Groudon live two Urshifu-R Mystic Water-boosted Surging Strikes in sun, as well as surviving a Wood Hammer from Rillaboom and the Ogerpon formes and +1 Zamazenta-C Body Press. The Attack investment allows Heat Crash to OHKO Amoonguss, Flutter Mane, and Tornadus with sun up, as well as almost always OHKO Miraidon with Precipice Blades. Groudon will also be able to OHKO Urshifu-R with +2 Precipice Blades. The Special Defense EVs let Groudon survive a Choice Specs Tera Fairy Flutter Mane Moonblast and a +1 Spell Tag Calyrex-S Astral Barrage. Some counters to Groudon include Kyogre and Terapagos, which can remove Groudon's weather. Lunala is another bad matchup for Groudon, as it can easily take a boosted Precipice Blades while moving before it in Trick Room. Groudon has to be very careful around Calyrex-I, since it threatens to OHKO Groudon if it doesn't Terastallize. Some good non-Restricted Pokemon counters such as Pelipper and Landorus can work because of their immunity to Precipice Blades. Pelipper can additionally remove the sun from Groudon, significantly weakening its Heat Crash. Some good teammates for Groudon are Flutter Mane, Raging Bolt, and Walking Wake because the Protosynthesis ability allows them to get faster or stronger, and Groudon setting sun allows for these abilities to be activated. Raging Bolt helps Groudon deal with Kyogre and Pelipper, while Flutter Mane deals with the Ogerpon formes. Other good teammates for Groudon are Incineroar, which provides Fake Out and Intimidate, Amoonguss, which provides Spore and Rage Powder support, and Rillaboom, which is another Fake Out user that provides Grassy Terrain recovery so Groudon can stay on the field longer and set up with Swords Dance. Amoonguss also helps in the Trick Room matchup against Calyrex-I.

Set Details Groudon uses its good physical bulk and strong attacks to spread damage throughout a game while being difficult to remove. Groudon matches up especially well into Miraidon and Raging Bolt because of its immunity to their Electric-type attacks and ability to threaten them with Ground-type attacks. High Horsepower is used as a stronger single-target alternative to Precipice Blades, allowing Groudon to get around Wide Guard from Pokemon like Lunala. Crunch is used on Assault Vest sets to threaten Calyrex-S and Lunala for super effective damage. Clear Amulet blocks Intimidate from Incineroar, letting Groudon fire off attacks without having to worry about its damage being reduced. Assault Vest boosts Groudon's Special Defense, allowing it to survive Draco Meteor from Choice Specs Miraidon. The HP and Special Defense investment allow Groudon to survive Draco Meteor from Choice Specs Miraidon outside of Electric Terrain if it isn't running an Assault Vest or, if it is running an Assault Vest, survive Draco Meteor if Electric Terrain is active. The Speed investment lets Groudon outspeed Choice Scarf Urshifu if Tailwind is active. The Attack investment ensures that Groudon will OHKO bulkless Miraidon with Precipice Blades almost all of the time. Tera Fire lets Groudon resist the Ice- and Grass-type attacks that threaten it before it Terastallizes such as Glacial Lance from Calyrex-I and Wood Hammer from Rillaboom. Tera Fire also boosts Heat Crash's damage, letting Groudon OHKO Calyrex-S with it. Teambuilding Groudon struggles into Kyogre because it can override Groudon's sun and threaten to OHKO it with Water Spout and Hydro Pump or deal a large amount of damage with Origin Pulse. Groudon also struggles into physically defensive foes that it cannot hit for super effective damage, such as Terastallized Calyrex-I and Lunala, as Groudon cannot do enough damage to them before being KOed. Groudon pairs well with Pokemon with Protosynthesis like Raging Bolt and Flutter Mane, as it allows them to run items other than Booster Energy. Raging Bolt threatens Kyogre, while Groudon threatens the Steel-, Poison-, and Fire-types that resist Flutter Mane's Fairy-type attacks. Grimmsnarl's dual screens boost Groudon's bulk even further. Incineroar and Volcarona both benefit from Groudon's sun boosting their Fire-type attacks and weakening Water-type attacks from Urshifu-R. They also threaten Calyrex-I, helping Groudon break through it. Restricted Pokemon that can threaten large amounts of damage, such as Miraidon and Calyrex-I, are good partners for Groudon, as their additional damage helps into bulkier foes. Miraidon also threatens to OHKO Kyogre and can do good damage to Lunala and Calyrex-I.

戰術分析
Groudon is a decent pick for bulky offense teams thanks to its ability to check Zacian-C, Extreme Killer Arceus, Dragon Dance Arceus-Ground, and Koraidon due to its solid bulk. Access to moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Spikes differentiate it from Landorus-T. Will-O-Wisp allows Groudon to cripple Pokemon that switch into it such as Koraidon and physical variants of Arceus-Ground. Roar is used to phaze foes such as Swords Dance Zacian-C, Swords Dance Koraidon, Extreme Killer Arceus, and Arceus-Ground that may try to set up on it while also racking up chip damage from entry hazards. Protect is an alternative move that can be used to scout moves from the likes of Choice Specs Miraidon and Kyogre and Choice Scarf Koraidon as well as maximize Leftovers recovery. Tera Water allows Groudon to resist Behemoth Blade from Zacian-C, Flare Blitz from Koraidon, and Water Spout and Ice Beam from Kyogre, whereas Tera Fairy makes it immune or resistant to Scale Shot and Low Kick from Koraidon and Draco Meteor from Miraidon. Offensive teammates that benefit from the hazards set up by Groudon such as Calyrex-S, Calm Mind Arceus formes, Miraidon, Koraidon, Zacian-C, and Extreme Killer Arceus are appreciated. As Groudon lacks recovery, revenge killers such as Choice Scarf Koraidon and other physical walls with access to recovery such as defensive Arceus formes are mandatory partners. As Groudon is unable to check special attackers such as Calyrex-S, Miraidon, and Kyogre, checks to them such as Ting-Lu and Clodsire are appreciated; they can set up hazards as well to form a hazard stacking core with it.

戰術分析
Primal Groudon is a potent mixed attacker thanks to its amazing stat spread, its Ground / Fire typing, and its expansive movepool. It switches into many staples, like Ferrothorn, Necrozma-DM, and Eternatus, and this breaks holes in many teams early-game if healthy enough. Eruption allows Primal Groudon to deal strong damage to foes that don't take as much damage from Precipice Blades, such as support Arceus formes like Arceus-Ground and Arceus-Dark, as well as Ferrothorn. Eruption can also 2HKO foes that resist Fire, like non-defensive Eternatus and Zygarde before Power Construct. Precipice Blades is Primal Groudon's secondary STAB move, hitting Zacian-C, Primal Kyogre, and Necrozma-DM more reliably than Eruption when Primal Groudon is chipped. Rock Tomb can be used to deal super effective damage to common switch-ins, such as Ho-Oh and Mega Salamence, while also giving Primal Groudon a form of speed control against foes like Eternatus and Yveltal. Alternatively, Stone Edge can be used to deal heavier damage against Giratina-O and OHKO Ho-Oh after minimal chip damage. Swords Dance is recommended to reliably OHKO Necrozma-DM, Primal Kyogre, and Eternatus with Precipice Blades after a boost while also 2HKOing the majority of its checks, like Arceus-Ground and Zygarde-C. Stealth Rock is an alternative that can be used to soften up opposing staples like Arceus-Fairy, Arceus-Ground, and opposing Primal Groudon while also heavily damaging Mega Salamence and Yveltal. It also allows Primal Groudon to reliably OHKO Marshadow and Rayquaza after Stealth Rock damage. Eruption Primal Groudon fits best on bulky offense teams that appreciate a mixed wallbreaker that can blow holes in the opposing team early-game. Although Primal Groudon is a threatening early-game wallbreaker, it still cannot deal with the likes of Arceus-Ground, Zygarde-C, and Palkia-O, so it appreciates teammates that can deal with them, like Primal Kyogre and Arceus-Fairy. Primal Groudon appreciates entry hazard support from Eternatus and support Arceus formes like Arceus-Dark and Arceus-Ground, as they can chip most of Primal Groudon's aforementioned checks. In return, Primal Groudon can deal with Zacian-C and Primal Kyogre for them, respectively. It's important to keep Primal Groudon from needlessly being chipped, so having a teammate with entry hazard control such as Ho-Oh or Yveltal, is beneficial.

戰術分析
Primal Groudon is a near-mandatory Pokemon on balance and bulky offense structures due to the immense defensive role compression only Primal Groudon can provide, such as switching into Zacian-C and Primal Kyogre while avoiding passivity. These structures generally tend to prefer defensive Primal Groudon rather than other sets, as defensive Primal Groudon can threaten every archetype. Consequently, Primal Groudon is incredibly malleable and can tailor its moves to best suit its team’s requirements. Such is Primal Groudon’s flexibility; it can viably run many moves and EV spreads beyond what is listed in this analysis. Precipice Blades is the only mandatory move on Primal Groudon. Although Earthquake may be appealing due to its perfect accuracy, the lower Base Power causes Primal Groudon to miss out on key damage thresholds against Pokemon it is often tasked with taking on such as Eternatus, defensive Primal Kyogre, and Zacian-C. Stealth Rock is Primal Groudon’s preferred entry hazard, and although it is competent at setting Spikes, it is niche due to being outclassed by Ferrothorn in this role, as Primal Groudon's lack of longevity makes it difficult to stack and maintain Spikes in longer games. Toxic provides Primal Groudon a reliable means of forcing progress against many of its most common switch-ins such as Giratina-O and Coil Zygarde while putting Pokemon such as Ho-Oh and Arceus formes lacking Refresh on a timer. Dragon Tail and Roar are niche but effective options primarily used on entry hazard-stacking teams. Dragon Tail is the preferred option of the two, as it is not blocked by Taunt while chunking Zygarde and Giratina-O for its teammates. However, Tera Fairy is relatively common on Pokemon such as Coil Zygarde, wallbreaker Eternatus, and Arceus formes, so additional counterplay to these Pokemon is required. Although Roar may appear to be better due to its perfect accuracy, lack of an immunity, and ability to phaze foes behind a Substitute such as Dragon Dance Zygarde, the ubiquity of Taunt users such as Yveltal and Arceus formes results in consistency issues. Overheat transforms Primal Groudon into a ferocious mixed attacker despite the lack of investment, as even support Arceus formes can be 2HKOed after Stealth Rock. Notably, Overheat also 2HKOes Dondozo after Stealth Rock, leaving Giratina as the only safe long-term switch-in to Primal Groudon on stall teams. Additionally, the burst damage is incredibly useful in a pinch, as specially offensive Yveltal is likely to be OHKOed after one round of Life Orb chip damage and Giratina-O cannot shrug off Overheat as it can with Rock Tomb. Rock Tomb is a great option due to the utility provided by its Speed drop and providing Primal Groudon the ability to directly pressure Ho-Oh, Mega Salamence, and Rayquaza. However, if dropping Overheat for Rock Tomb, Primal Groudon’s existing issues with Giratina-O are exacerbated, as it often uses Tera Poison or Steel, which renders Primal Groudon unable to meaningfully threaten it. 192 SpD EVs enable Primal Groudon to survive Deoxys-A's Psycho Boost while the remaining EVs are dumped into Defense. This enables Primal Groudon to still survive many powerful physical attacks such as +2 Zacian-C's Tera Blast Ground, +3 Zacian-C's Tera Fighting Close Combat, Double Dance Primal Groudon's Precipide Blades after Stealth Rock as Groudon, and Choice Band Rayquaza's Tera Flying Dragon Ascent after Stealth Rock and a layer of Spikes while being 3HKOed by Choice Band Marshadow's Low Kick. The second EV spread of enables Primal Groudon to always survive +3 Zacian-C's Tera Fighting Close Combat after a single layer of Spikes, Arceus-Ground's Tectonic Rage, and Ultra Necrozma's +1 Earthquake after a layer of Spikes. The Special Defense investment enables Primal Groudon to survive Eternatus's +1 Tera Dragon Dynamax Cannon. Primal Groudon's EV spread is incredibly flexible so long as it is able to perform its essential duties in checking Primal Kyogre and Zacian-C. For example, on teams with Paralysis support, it is often worthwhile to invest a few EVs into Speed to enable Primal Groudon to outspeed paralyzed Eternatus and Zacian-C. An alternate EV spread of 248 HP / 60 Atk / 96 Def / 60 SpA / 44 SpD allows Primal Groudon to play slightly more offensively while checking what it needs to defensively, as defensive Primal Kyogre's Ice Beam still only 4HKOes it. The increased physical bulk enables Primal Groudon to be 2HKOed by Dragon Dance Zygarde's +1 Tera Ground Thousand Arrows after a single layer of Spikes, as well as a 3HKO from Choice Band Marshadow's Poltergeist after a single layer of Spikes. 60 Attack EVs enable Precipice Blades to 2HKO defensive Primal Kyogre after Stealth Rock. 60 Special Attack EVs ensure that Overheat always OHKOes specially offensive Yveltal after it takes it takes one round of Life Orb chip damage. Primal Groudon may be able to seemingly check nearly the entire metagame, but its lack of recovery limits what it is capable of in any particular game. Consequently, Primal Groudon’s role should be established at the outset of each game. Primal Groudon’s role can shift on a game-by-game basis. Against hyper offensive teams, Primal Groudon should often be held in the back so it is able to maintain enough HP to take on Pokemon such as Zacian-C and Eternatus, as the ability to do so is far more important than setting entry hazards. Against other archetypes, Primal Groudon can and should be played with far more flexibility. It is important to avoid tunnel visioning into setting entry hazards. For example, despite the strength of entry hazards, it is often more beneficial in the long run to use Toxic to catch an incoming Giratina-O and put it on a timer. Because it lacks recovery, try to avoid letting Primal Groudon be statused. This is particularly important against stall teams, as Primal Groudon often plays a key role in stallbreaking and has immense difficulty doing so if statused. Due to its innate defensive role compression, Primal Groudon is an excellent teammate for nearly any Pokemon. Defensive Primal Groudon is often paired with a Ground-immune Zacian-C check such as Ho-Oh or Terastallized Giratina-O. Both Pokemon also provide entry hazard control to enhance Primal Groudon's limited longevity and disruption via status or phazing to help check Pokemon such as Coil Zygarde and Eternatus. On bulky offense structures, Giratina-O or offensive Ho-Oh is often used, while both offensive and defensive Ho-Oh fit on balance structures. Furthermore, special utility Giratina-O is an excellent long-term check to Coil Zygarde, which counters Primal Groudon, as Zygarde is unable to use Rest through Giratina-O’s boosted Hex. Incorporating Giratina-O on balance structures necessitates Alomomola support to help alleviate the longevity issues that Primal Groudon and Giratina-O both struggle with. This longevity helps immensely against Pokemon that tend to decimate bulkier balance teams such as wallbreaker Primal Kyogre while freeing Primal Groudon to 'cheat' on defensive investment. Coil Zygarde is a stellar teammate, as it alleviates some of the defensive pressure from Primal Groudon due to its ability to blanket check most of the physical metagame. Zygarde is also a serviceable Toxic absorber due to Rest, particularly against stall teams where it is unable to contribute much otherwise until Dondozo is removed, which Primal Groudon can do. Coil Zygarde’s ability to effortlessly switch into opposing Primal Groudon and Marshadow is especially appreciated. On more offensive teams, Dragon Dance Zygarde is an excellent teammate for its formidable offensive presence after a single Dragon Dance, as it can use non-Tera Fairy Coil Zygarde as setup fodder and beat Pokemon that offensively check Primal Groudon such as Giratina-O and Eternatus. However, this comes at the cost of eschewing most of its defensive utility and should be paired with Giratina-O to handle opposing Double Dance Primal Groudon. Arceus-Fairy and Calm Mind Arceus-Dark are often the Arceus fomes of choice due to their rare ability to switch into specially offensive Yveltal. Primal Groudon is quite appreciative of Calm Mind Arceus-Dark’s abilities to counter Ultra Necrozma, switch in and set up on wallbreaker Eternatus, and check Giratina-O. Arceus-Fairy more directly threatens Yveltal and Zygarde at the cost of being a soft Ultra Necrozma check and being walled by Ho-Oh. Arceus-Fairy especially appreciates Rock Tomb's ability to cleave through Ho-Oh. Primal Groudon appreciates Choice Band Marshadow’s ability to easily revenge kill Pokemon on hyper offense teams that give it trouble such as Extreme Killer Arceus and Ultra Necrozma. Marshadow additionally provides decent speed control with its strong Shadow Sneak and a check to Calm Mind Arceus formes, which may try to use a heavily chipped Primal Groudon as a setup opportunity.

Primal Groudon's huge Attack and great defensive profile make it a fantastic wallbreaker and sweeper with Swords Dance and Rock Polish. Stone Edge hits Flying-types such as Ho-Oh and Mega Salamence. Heat Crash is an alternative that provides a perfectly accurate Desolate Land-boosted STAB option that hits certain foes harder than Precipice Blades, such as Ferrothorn, though running it leaves Primal Groudon unable to hit foes such as Giratina-O for neutral damage. However, most Fire-resistant Flying-types, like Ho-Oh and Mega Salamence, still take heavy damage from Heat Crash. The given EV spread maximizes Primal Groudon's Attack while providing just enough Speed to outspeed Choice Scarf Yveltal after using Rock Polish, with the rest being dumped into HP to increase its bulk. Primal Groudon best fits on offense teams looking for a powerful threat that can act as a sweeper or wallbreaker depending on the situation. Typically, it should use Swords Dance against defensive teams and Rock Polish against offensive teams. Primal Groudon's ability, typing, and bulk also let it check some foes in a pinch, like Primal Kyogre and Arceus. Entry hazard setters such as Deoxys-S can help chip Primal Groudon's checks, such as Zygarde-C and Arceus-Ground, into KO range. Grimmsnarl can provide dual screens support to help Primal Groudon set up, sometimes even allowing it to set up both Swords Dance and Rock Polish. Both of those teammates carry Taunt, which can stop the opposing team from setting up hazards, making it easier for Primal Groudon to set up. Offensive teammates such as Mega Salamence and Zacian-C can help Primal Groudon's team maintain offensive pressure, either by breaking holes for it or by taking advantage of the holes it makes. Certain physically bulky Ground-types, such as Arceus-Ground and Zygarde-C, can beat Primal Groudon one-on-one and sometimes even set up alongside it. Primal Kyogre is effective at handling these foes, while Flying-types like Yveltal and Mega Salamence can switch into them in a pinch.

Primal Groudon can leverage its huge Special Attack and access to a sun-boosted Overheat to run a rare support set that can support allies with entry hazards and multiple ways to cripple foes while retaining the ability to force progress against many teams by virtue of its powerful attacks. Overheat gives excellent coverage with Precipice Blades and OHKOes many relevant offensive threats, notably including offensive Yveltal and Terastallized offensive Necrozma-DM, while also being able to OHKO defensive Necrozma-DM, defensive Yveltal after any prior damage, and consistently 2HKO the niche Dondozo. Rock Tomb does heavy damage to Ho-Oh, which otherwise walls Primal Groudon almost entirely, while lowering the Speed of faster switch-ins like Yveltal and Arceus formes to allow Primal Groudon to outspeed them and then KO with Overheat. It can also be situationally useful to deny Dragon Dance users like Mega Salamence and Ultra Necrozma the ability to boost their Speed. Alternatively, Toxic can be used over Rock Tomb to cripple switch-ins like Giratina-O that otherwise don't really mind taking Primal Groudon's other moves. Either Stealth Rock or Spikes exploits the many switches Primal Groudon forces, especially given that Primal Groudon can effectively threaten most Defog users with its natural power and moveset. 252 Special Attack EVs with a Mild Nature ensure that Overheat hits maximally hard, while 160 Speed on Rock Tomb sets outspeed a -1 Marshadow. The remaining EVs are invested into Special Defense to better handle Primal Kyogre. Alternatively, if Primal Groudon is not running Rock Tomb, a spread of 104 HP / 8 Def / 244 SpA / 152 Spe can be used to avoid a 2HKO from Primal Kyogre's Ice Beam and an OHKO from +1 Life Orb Marshadow's Low Kick after Stealth Rock while outspeeding Adamant Necrozma-DM. Because this Primal Groudon set is much less bulky than other variants, it should be used aggressively. A common case is to send it in on something it can OHKO with Overheat, such as Yveltal. Once the opponent is aware of the set, Primal Groudon can instead use these opportunities as a way to set its entry hazard of choice. If the opponent is likely to switch in something that can take Primal Groudon's STAB combination well, such as Giratina-O and Ho-Oh, that is also a good time to set hazards or use Rock Tomb or Toxic to punish the switch. Alternatively, a defensive set can be bluffed to lure these targets in, though once Primal Groudon is attacked, the amount of damage it takes will tend to expose the set. This variant of Primal Groudon can be an effective lead, but it can also be saved for later if Primal Groudon might be anti-led by Pokemon like defensive Primal Kyogre and Zygarde; Overheat's KO potential also goes up dramatically when foes such as Arceus-Ground are chipped. Due to the lack of defensive investment, this set of Primal Groudon is unable to handle Dragon Dance Ultra Necrozma in any capacity, so hard checks such as Arceus-Dark and Yveltal can prove effective. Both are also able to keep entry hazards up with their fast Taunts while also handling Defog Giratina-O, which Primal Groudon can struggle to threaten; they also check Zygarde, which can use Primal Groudon as setup fodder. Primal Groudon's Ground weakness makes it vulnerable to Pokemon such as Arceus-Ground, other Primal Groudon, and Zygarde, so Pokemon such as the aforementioned Yveltal and Giratina-O can go a long way in providing counterplay.

Primal Groudon makes for one of the tier's best entry hazard setters due to its superb bulk, typing, and offensive prowess when combined with Swords Dance. It retains its ability to check powerful threats such as Zacian-C and Primal Kyogre but can additionally maintain hazards against Ho-Oh, making it a staple for balance and bulky offense teams. These teams appreciate this Primal Groudon variant's wallbreaking capabilites, forming strong offensive synergies with teammates such as Eternatus and Zacian-C, which the defensive variant lacks. Stealth Rock is typically preferred to threaten Flying- and Ice-types more, such as Yveltal, Mega Salamence, and Chien-Pao. However, Spikes can be used instead to break through defensive walls quicker, such as Zygarde and Ferrothorn, especially if an alternative Stealth Rock user is present; this may be more ideal on fatter team structures that focus on stacking hazards. Rock Tomb serves as a reliable way of punishing Flying-types such as Yveltal and Mega Salamence on the switch, notably preventing the latter from safely setting up. The Speed drop can be combined with Precipice Blades to maintain offensive pressure, especially against predicted switch-ins such as defensive Arceus-Dark. Alternatively, Stone Edge matches up better against Giratina-O, defensive Ho-Oh, and the more niche Landorus-T due to its immediate power while still denying Mega Salamence safe setup if boosted. The first EV spread allows Primal Groudon to avoid the OHKO from +3 Tera Fighting Zacian-C's Close Combat after taking Stealth Rock damage as base Groudon, with the rest being dumped into Special Defense to survive Life Orb Deoxys-A's Psycho Boost. The second EV spread is ideal for Stone Edge variants, being able to OHKO defensive Ho-Oh without any boosts, as well as 2HKOing Giratina-O at +2 Attack after Stealth Rock. The rest of the EVs are used defensively, allowing Primal Groudon to survive +3 Tera Fighting Zacian-C's Close Combat and avoid the 2HKO from offensive Primal Kyogre's Ice Beam, both after a layer of Spikes. Due to the popularity of defensive Overheat variants, Primal Groudon is able to punish reckless Defog attempts from Ho-Oh with ease, making this set especially powerful early- or mid-game. Swords Dance should be used on forced switches against Pokemon such as defensive Primal Kyogre and Necrozma-DM, allowing Primal Groudon to apply sudden offensive pressure while maintaining hazards for its team. However, if using Rock Tomb against Giratina-O, it is advised not to try and duel it due to Giratina-O's superior bulk and damage against Primal Groudon; it is best to switch out to preserve health, especially if a threat such as Zacian-C is present on the opposing team. Primal Groudon's efficacy as a wallbreaker and hazard setter, as well as its ability to remove Ho-Oh easily, is appreciated heavily by other offensive threats such as Marshadow, Play Rough Zacian-C, and Eternatus, all three of which are able to threaten Giratina-O for Primal Groudon in return as well as handling threats faster than Primal Groudon, such as Calm Mind Arceus formes. Dragon Dance Arceus-Ground alongside Primal Groudon can overwhelm their checks, such as Zygarde and the aforementioned Giratina-O, especially if Primal Groudon is using Stone Edge for the latter. Arceus-Ground can additionally maintain hazards set by Primal Groudon via Taunt or serve as a check to opposing Primal Groudon with Recover, making it a strong option against opposing offense teams that Primal Groudon may not like due to its poor longevity. However, Primal Groudon is still weak to Ground-types such as Zygarde, Arceus-Ground, and opposing Primal Groudon, meaning sufficient checks to all of them such as defensive Primal Kyogre, Ho-Oh, and Tera Fairy Zygarde are all great teammates, with them all appreciating Primal Groudon handling opposing Primal Kyogre in return. Ferrothorn can ease the pressure of off Primal Groudon in checking Primal Kyogre and Arceus-Water, supporting Primal Groudon via Knock Off and Spikes and being a solid answer to special utility Giratina-O. In return, Primal Groudon beats opposing Steel-types such as Necrozma-DM and Zacian-C that may try to use Ferrothorn as setup fodder.

Physically defensive Groudon is one of the best sources of Stealth Rock besides Necrozma-DM in the tier. It also provides a good check to some dangerous setup sweepers such as Zekrom and Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM. Precipice Blades will still do decent damage generally, even without Attack investment. Stone Edge and Rock Slide are great coverage options, and they notably make the most common Defoggers in the tier, Yveltal and Ho-Oh, very afraid of switching into Groudon. Toxic gives Groudon a decent way of punishing switch-ins such as Zygarde and Yveltal. Dragon Tail can be used to phaze foes and rack up entry hazard damage. It particularly punishes Zygarde nicely. Thunder Wave is another option that can cripple switch-ins, but you need to watch out for Zygarde. 16 Speed EVs are run to outspeed a paralyzed Calyrex-S. This set's biggest flaws are its lack of reliable recovery and vulnerability to status. Because of this, you will want to pair it with a cleric like Xerneas or Blissey. Blissey can even provide Thunder Wave support and check Kyogre. Ferrothorn is good to heal Groudon with Leech Seed and provide Spikes support, which helps Dragon Tail sets. Ferrothorn can also switch into Kyogre, which often switches into Groudon. Necrozma-DM has good synergy with this set, as it appreciates Groudon's sun support for Moonlight, and Groudon can provide extra insurance against physical wallbreakers such as Zekrom and Marshadow. This pairing also frees up a moveslot on Necrozma-DM that is normally reserved for Stealth Rock. For example, it could run Knock Off to cripple Ho-Oh, which then cannot use Defog in front of Groudon due to fear of a Rock-type move, thus severely limiting its presence for the rest of the game and keeping Stealth Rock on the field.

Precipice Blades and Stone Edge give Groudon great neutral coverage. Rock Polish makes Groudon faster than everything in the metagame bar Choice Scarf Calyrex-S. Swords Dance makes Groudon incredibly strong and gives it the power to break through most physical walls. For example, +2 Life Orb Groudon has an 81.3% chance to OHKO defensive Zygarde, giving it no chance to transform into Zygarde-C. Life Orb gives Groudon great power with or without Swords Dance. However, Lum Berry can be run to better protect Groudon from status such as poison from Eternatus's Toxic Spikes, burn from Lunala's Will-O-Wisp, and paralysis from Zygarde's Glare. Also, the lack of recoil prevents opponents from switching around to get chip damage on it, which can be critical to defeating a damaged Groudon in a pinch. The given EV spread outspeeds uninvested Yveltal and Xerneas. This set is fairly straightforward to use, and it works well on offensive teams. Groudon will appreciate offensive teammates that can help break down its few checks. Zekrom is fantastic for this, luring in and severely damaging Tangrowth or Buzzwole with Draco Meteor. Marshadow is another good physical partner, as its strong Spectral Thief will take out Lunala. In return, Groudon can KO Zygarde. Xerneas and offensive Eternatus have good synergy with Groudon as well, as Groudon can come in on Necrozma-DM, which they attract in. For hyper offense teams, Froslass and Aerodactyl lay down entry hazards and prevent the opponent from laying their own with Taunt. Grimmsnarl is another fantastic hyper offense partner, switching into Calyrex-S, which may try to revenge kill Groudon, and setting up dual screens, making Groudon terrifyingly hard to KO.

This set makes use of Groudon's naturally high physical bulk to provide more support for its team, as well as being a terrifying wallbreaker in its own right. Without Rock Polish, Groudon can run another coverage option or a status move to help deal with its normal checks, such as Zarude, Buzzwole, Tangrowth, and Lunala. Bulk Up gives a better matchup against Zygarde than Swords Dance, and it gives Groudon superior physical bulk after boosting. Swords Dance facilitates a more defensive EV spread that gives Groudon more bulk without boosting that can be used to lure in and defeat Foul Play Yveltal and better check physical attackers in a pinch. The last moveslot is very flexible. Heat Crash is a great coverage option to KO Buzzwole, Zarude, Tangrowth, Skarmory, and Corviknight, which would otherwise wall Groudon. Notably, Heat Crash under sun will typically do just as much damage as Precipice Blades will to a neutral target, easing Groudon's accuracy issues. Toxic is useful to break down Lunala and Zygarde over time. Thunder Wave provides nice team support and helps patch up Groudon's low Speed. 240 HP EVs improve Leftovers recovery; Leftovers and higher HP investment give this set more bulk to check Zekrom and other physical attackers, and they prolong Groudon's sweeping potential. Maximum Attack investment ensures Groudon will hit hard as possible after a Bulk Up, being able to OHKO Tangrowth with Heat Crash. 16 Speed EVs work well alongside Thunder Wave or paralysis support to outspeed paralyzed Calyrex-S. Another option is to run a spread of 224 HP / 108 Atk / 160 Def / 16 Spe with an Impish nature; it is preferred for Swords Dance sets, notably giving Groudon the bulk to survive a Foul Play from Yveltal even after it has used Swords Dance. The Attack investment is used to always KO specially defensive Yveltal with Stone Edge. Other paralysis spreaders like Necrozma-DM, Ho-Oh, and Zygarde are good teammates to help make up for Groudon's poor Speed. This Groudon will often inflict status onto or KO Yveltal, so Pokemon that can sweep with Yveltal gone, such as Calyrex-S, are great teammates. If you are running Heat Crash, physical attackers that appreciate Tangrowth or Buzzwole being gone, such as Zekrom and Marshadow, make good partners. Clerics such as Xerneas, Calyrex-S, Blissey, and Clefable will be able to keep Groudon status free, which is especially relevant if Groudon is trying to break through Lunala or Zygarde. This set can struggle to break through defensive Zygarde, so switch-ins to Zygarde such as Lunala, Buzzwole, and Xerneas are great partners.

戰術分析
In a metagame where Restricted Pokemon run rampant and the premier teams are sun teams, Groudon is easily a top contender. While Groudon is certainly threatening by itself, it's so good more because Drought serves as a catalyst for two of the metagame's most dangerous Pokemon, those being Charizard and Venusaur. Precipice Blades is Groudon's strongest STAB move and gives it access to Max Quake to boost its weaker Special Defense. Groudon has more consistent STAB options, but there is simply too much opportunity cost to reasonably justify them. Rock Slide gives Groudon means to hit Flying-types such as Zapdos and Yveltal, and most critically it threatens an OHKO against Dynamaxed Charizard via Max Rockfall. Swords Dance is useful for offsetting Intimidate from the likes of Landorus-T and Incineroar, and thanks to Groudon's bulk, it can oftentimes get one or even multiple boosts. Sitrus Berry improves Groudon's longevity as a bulky Swords Dance user and support Pokemon to Charizard and Venusaur. Alternatively, Groudon can run White Herb in order to offset Intimidate and make itself generally more threatening; however, Groudon oftentimes doesn't need to be more threatening because its teammates do that job. The given EV spread allows Groudon to outspeed -1 Thundurus and outspeed Tornadus while at +1, both of which are relevant given Groudon is often paired with Charizard, which can use Max Airstream, and Electroweb Regieleki. Groudon should always be paired with Venusaur and almost always with Charizard; there is simply little reason to not use Pokemon that are so powerful in the sun. Venusaur helps Groudon by thwarting Water-types such as Rotom-W, Blastoise, and Kyogre. In return, Groudon can thwart Fire-types like Incineroar and Coalossal. Charizard can assist Groudon by checking Grass-types such as Rillaboom and Venusaur, while Groudon can check Regieleki and Coalossal for Charizard. Regieleki is a great teammate for being one of the best answers to Kyogre teams, and it can also provide Groudon speed control with Electroweb. Grimmsnarl can provide dual screens to bolster Groudon's already good defensive stats, which can help it set up with Swords Dance more safely. Grimmsnarl can also mitigate Groudon's middling Speed via Scary Face or Thunder Wave. Porygon2 is a great partner for Groudon because it's a great check to Landorus-T with Ice Beam, most importantly, and also Calyrex-S with Eerie Impulse, which are both Pokemon that can greatly trouble Groudon teams. Porygon2 can also provide speed control to Groudon with Trick Room. Incineroar supports pretty much every Pokemon well and Groudon is no exception, appreciating Incineroar's ability to keep the likes of Venusaur, Rillaboom, and Calyrex-S in check if it's running Assault Vest. Umbreon is one of the best answers to Calyrex-S and also a solid answer to Calyrex-I, both of which can greatly trouble Groudon and its common teammates. Note that running Umbreon gives up the ability to reasonably justify Porygon2, which compromises the matchup against Landorus-T.

Precipice Blades, despite the accuracy concerns, is still Groudon's most effective way to deal damage. When Dynamaxed, Groudon can use Max Quake to boost its Special Defense, which is hugely effective in tandem with Assault Vest. Stone Edge is a strong option for hitting Pokemon immune to Ground like Thundurus, Charizard, and Yveltal, but Rock Tomb can be used to support Groudon's teammates by slowing down foes. Stone Edge also has the stronger Max Rockfall at 130 BP compared to Rock Tomb's 110. Fire Punch lets Groudon deal consistent Fire-type damage, as Heat Crash will fail against a Dynamaxed foe and does less damage to Zacian-C. Heat Crash, however, does more damage against most other non-Dynamaxed foes thanks to Groudon's weight stat, including getting the OHKO on Amoonguss. Shadow Claw lets Groudon OHKO Calyrex-S and do big damage to Lunala. Heavy Slam hits Grimmsnarl and provides Max Steelspike, giving it access to both defense-boosting Max Moves. Giga Impact is used for Max Strike, slowing down foes and keeping them in check for partners like Charizard, Zacian-C, and Calyrex-S. Assault Vest is massive for giving Groudon a leg up against special attackers; Kyogre, Calyrex-S, and Charizard all have a much harder time breaking through Groudon with additional Special Defense.

Precipice Blades is Groudon's best Ground-type move and deals spread damage without threatening its partner. Max Quake can help Groudon by giving it Special Defense boosts to better matchup against Calyrex-S and Kyogre. Rock Slide hits many common Pokemon immune to Ground like Charizard and Thundurus, and can deal significant damage when Groudon has boosted Attack. Rock Tomb, while significantly less threatening offensively, can be a great help for its partners like Yveltal and Lunala, allowing them to outspeed the faster Pokemon like Thundurus, Zacian-C, and Calyrex-S. Swords Dance is Groudon's best way at counteracting Intimidate from Incineroar and Landorus-T. Bulk Up is slower to boost its Attack, but the Defense boost can help against physical attackers, such as making Zacian-C's +1 Behemoth Blade a guaranteed 3HKO and instantly garnering an advantage in Groudon wars. At +1 Attack, it can OHKO 252 HP / 4 Defense Zacian-C. Sitrus Berry and Leftovers provide Groudon with slight HP recovery which goes a long way to improve its longevity, but White Herb helps cancel out Intimidate drops as well as some annoying drops from Max Moves like opposing Max Wyrmwind, Max Phantasm, and Max Darkness.

Groudon's great Attack and Defense make it a physical tank capable of taking on dangerous physical attackers like Necrozma-DM, Zygarde-10%, Zeraora, and Zamazenta-C. Groudon is a good Stealth Rock setter thanks to its ability to pressure and force out common Defoggers like Ho-Oh and Tornadus-T. Despite having lower accuracy than Earthquake, Precipice Blades is noticeably stronger, allowing Groudon to nab more KOs, such as an OHKO on Victini and Zygarde-10% at +0 and Necrozma-DM and Zamazenta-C at +2, all while avoiding damage reduction from Grassy Terrain. Stone Edge targets Flying-types like Yveltal, Rayquaza, and Ho-Oh, while Heat Crash more directly pressures Corviknight. Swords Dance helps Groudon force out defensive Pokemon that can comfortably take its hits or clear its Stealth Rock, most notably Landorus-T and Magic Guard Clefable. Alternatively, Toxic cripples Landorus-T and other switch-ins like Tangrowth. 16 Speed EVs help Groudon outpace neutral natured Magnezone without a Speed donation, as well as Victini at -1. Defensive Groudon is best used on bulky offense builds that can make use of sun. Fire-types are natural partners, thanks to Drought supercharging their attacks and their ability to cover for Groudon's Grass and Ice weaknesses. Victini is perhaps the best partner, using Groudon's sun and great Attack in combination with V-create to overwhelm even bulky Fire-resistant foes like Ho-Oh and Slowbro. Heatran is also notable thanks to its ability to take Fire-type attacks that Groudon teams tend to struggle against while also benefitting from Groudon's Speed donation and Stealth Rock to better act as a trapper. Defense receivers like Clefable, Alolan Persian, and Gastrodon act as secondary physical walls to make up for Groudon's lack of reliable recovery. The former two can provide pivoting and deal with physical threats that Groudon struggles against like Weavile, Kyurem-B, and Kartana, while Gastrodon can take on Kyurem-B and Choice Scarf Victini. Clefable and Gastrodon also absorb Scald and Knock Off that would cripple Groudon. Rotom-W, Landorus-T, and Corviknight appreciate Groudon's defensive donations to help clear away entry hazards. Ferrothorn, Tangrowth, and Buzzwole can also make use of these donations to help against special attackers.

Offensive Groudon forgoes its utility to become a fearsome wallbreaker. Thanks to its good natural bulk and defensive typing, Groudon finds ample opportunities to set up against common defensive Pokemon like Magic Guard Clefable and Tornadus-T. Precipice Blades is its preferred STAB attack to OHKO Zamazenta-C and defensive Necrozma-DM at +2. Stone Edge nails Flying-types like Ho-Oh, Rayquaza, and Tornadus-T and gives Groudon great neutral coverage. Boosted by sun, Heat Crash is the best option against Landorus-T, Skarmory, and Grass-types such as Ferrothorn and Tangrowth. Alternatively, Rock Polish patches up Groudon's mediocre Speed and turns it into a late-game cleaner. Depending on the team, Groudon can choose between several items. Leftovers helps it utilize its defensive stats, while Life Orb increases its damage output, allowing Groudon to OHKO Clefable and Slowbro with +2 Precipice Blades. Lum Berry is also viable to set up against foes that threaten to burn Groudon, such as Rotom-W and Gastrodon. Jolly is preferred on sets with Heat Crash to at least Speed tie with opposing Groudon and Zekrom, while Rock Polish variants prefer Adamant's Attack boost. Offensive Groudon fits on offense teams that appreciate its wallbreaking capabilities. Choice Scarf Victini appreciates Groudon breaking through or weakening physical walls like Giratina, Gastrodon, and Slowking and benefits from its sun and hefty Attack donation. Defensive Water-types like Rotom-W and Slowking pair well with Groudon, as they can safely pivot it onto the field, take Scald from opposing Defensive Water-types, and switch into Fire-type attacks from opposing Victini and Heatran that take advantage of Groudon's sun. In return, Groudon gifts them defensive stats and takes on Electric-types such as Tapu Koko and Dracozolt that they struggle against. Corviknight and Tornadus-T deal with Grass-types like Rillaboom and Kartana and provide Defog support. Answers to Ice-types, notably Weavile and Kyurem-B, are also necessary, making Ferrothorn and Clefable great teammates, as they also set entry hazards in Groudon's place.

Groudon is one of the most threatening Dynamax sweepers in AG. With its good Attack stat and solid movepool, Groudon can find many opportunities to force out foes such as Necrozma-DM, Tyranitar, Zekrom, and Ho-Oh and set up for a potential sweep. Swords Dance turns Groudon into a deadly wallbreaker, allowing it to 2HKO Zygarde-C and Giratina as well as and OHKO Lunala and Zygarde after minor chip damage. Stone Edge allows Groudon to hit Flying-types such as Ho-Oh and Yveltal that would otherwise be a nuisance for it. Under Dynamax, Stone Edge turns into Max Rockfall, setting sand that breaks Lunala's Shadow Shield. Aerial Ace turns into Max Airstream, allowing Groudon to outspeed almost the entire metagame after a Speed boost. Maximum Speed investment with a Jolly nature allows Groudon to outpace Calyrex-S after Max Airstream has been used, while Life Orb guarantees several key OHKOs and 2HKOes after a Swords Dance boost. Groudon's best fit is on hyper offense teams, although it can also fit well on balance and bulky offense teams. On hyper offense, teammates such as Shuckle and Excadrill are able to provide immense support for it through entry hazards such as Sticky Web and Stealth Rock, respectively, enabling it to better break through its extremely limited checks. Groudon can force out common entry hazard setters such as Necrozma-DM, Tyranitar, and Ferrothorn, which is valuable because Shuckle cannot remove opposing entry hazards and Excadrill's Rapid Spin can be blocked by Ghost-types such as Marshadow and Calyrex-S. Zacian-C in particular is a good wallbreaker that can lure in Necrozma-DM and weaken Zygarde-C, and Yveltal can pressure Ghost-types like Lunala, Calyrex-S, and Giratina for Groudon and Excadrill. Teammates like Ho-Oh and Necrozma-DM can Imposter-proof Groudon, stalling out Ditto's Dynamax turns to somewhat reliably check it. Ferrothorn can check Choice Scarf Kyogre and provide Spikes support for Groudon on bulky offense teams. Other setup sweepers such as Xerneas, Nasty Plot Calyrex-S, and Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM appreciate Groudon KOing walls such as Necrozma-DM, Tyranitar, and Ferrothorn for them. In return, they can pressure walls such as Zygarde-C and full health Lunala that Groudon struggles with. To maximize Groudon's sweeping potential, the foe's Dynamax should be wasted by powerful teammates such as Xerneas, Zacian-C, and Kyogre. Groudon should generally be used mid- or late-game once its biggest checks in Zygarde-C and Lunala have been weakened from teammates' offensive pressure.

Groudon sets itself apart from other Prankster users with its stellar offensive presence, forcing out much of the tier. Haze, thanks to Prankster, out-prioritizes boosted foes and removes stat boosts. Topsy-Turvy inverts these boosts, further limiting the opponent, but will fail against threats like Yveltal and Psychic Surge Mewtwo. Thousand Arrows is a consistent STAB option, boasting 100% accuracy and the ability to force out Ho-Oh. Alternatively, Thousand Waves, when combined with Volt Switch or Entrainment, allows Groudon to pivot around while trapping and eliminating Imposter and Poison Heal users. Parting Shot lets Groudon fast-pivot in front of dangerous threats while simultaneously cutting the damage that the switch-in takes. Groudon can use Glare to provide its team with Speed control and an occasional free turn due to a full paralysis. Precipice Blades as a second STAB option enhances Groudon's offensive presence with its additional power. Groudon requires little to no support and should be used primarily to shore up a team's weaknesses rather than as the core of a team. Offensive teams greatly appreciate Groudon imposter-proofing their setup sweepers as well as checking opposing setup while also maintaining offensive pressure. Giratina and Zygarde-C are some of the few Pokemon that can switch into Groudon reliably, so Pokemon that can threaten them like Xerneas and Kyurem-B pair excellently with Groudon.

When holding a Choice Band, Groudon is a frightening wallbreaker that can easily blast holes in defensive cores, so long as it can get onto the field against the defensive Eternatus sets and Steel-types that it forces out. While it's less reliable than Thousand Arrows, the extra power from Precipice Blades enables Groudon to OHKO Zamazenta-C if it opts for Mold Breaker, or to take down Xerneas and Regigigas after a layer of Spikes on Adaptability sets. Trick neutralizes common physical walls such as Giratina and Fur Coat Lunala, and Glacial Lance is another strong option against Giratina that also knocks out Zygarde-C. U-turn can be used to pivot out from physical walls into a specially offensive teammate such as Dialga or Pixilate Xerneas, and these Pokemon can create opportunities for Groudon by inviting in easy prey like Zamazenta-C and Solgaleo. Poison Heal Regigigas sets with Swords Dance and Wicked Blow can weaken Giratina, Zygarde-C, and Fur Coat Lunala so they can no longer switch into Groudon's attacks. Against Imposter users, a teammate with solid physical bulk and reliable recovery can handle the imposter's attacks. Strength Sap Xerneas or a defensive Giratina set can perform this role effectively.

Preventing Groudon from setting up Spikes is a nightmare, as it ignores Magic Bounce with Mold Breaker and threatens huge swathes of the tier with Thousand Arrows and Glare. Strength Sap keeps Groudon healthy throughout the game, which allows it to repeatedly switch into foes such as Zamazenta-C and defensive Ho-Oh sets. Zekrom, Magearna, and other slow wallbreakers love Groudon's efficiency at spreading Spikes and paralysis; with Spikes up and foes such as Xerneas and Palkia paralyzed, they're far more difficult to switch into or force out. While Imposter Chansey must risk being crippled by paralysis to switch in against Groudon, it's still important to ensure that Chansey cannot freely set up Spikes when it does. Poison Heal Xerneas with Rapid Spin and Strength Sap helps out with this, as it can clear away Spikes, is unaffected by Glare, and can easily heal off damage from Thousand Arrows.

戰術分析
With a specially defensive set, Primal Groudon notably acts as a great switch-in to Primal Kyogre and a reliable way of wasting Dynamax turns from Xerneas. Stealth Rock is a great move on Primal Groudon, since its bulk and typing give it numerous switch-in opportunities against common Pokemon such as Zacian-C, defensive Necrozma-DM, and Ho-Oh. Although uninvested, Precipice Blades is a powerful STAB move that 2HKOes Primal Kyogre and non-Dynamaxed Xerneas. Stone Edge is mainly run in order to force Ho-Oh, the best Defogger, out immediately. Overheat severely punishes Yveltal if it tries to switch into Primal Groudon, OHKOing it after little prior chip damage. It also lets Primal Groudon OHKO Necrozma-DM and Ferrothorn and force recovery from Arceus-Ground. Rest allows Primal Groudon to wall Ho-Oh, defensive Necrozma-DM, and Arceus-Water throughout the entire game by curing it from Toxic poison. It also makes up for Primal Groudon's lack of reliable recovery so it can repeatedly check Primal Kyogre even during longer matches. Toxic is a niche option to cripple offensive checks such as Mega Rayquaza, Yveltal, and Primal Kyogre if they attempt to switch in on an attack or use of Stealth Rock. Roar racks up entry hazard damage and prevents Primal Groudon from being used as setup fodder by Zygarde-C, Mega Rayquaza, Smeargle, Vivillon, and an overly confident Xerneas, but it is hard to justify over other moves. Sleep Talk alongside Rest deters Pokemon like Primal Kyogre, Xerneas, and Mega Gengar from switching in and taking advantage of Primal Groudon while it is asleep, but such a set is completely walled by Flying-types and struggles to set Stealth Rock against Ho-Oh without proper team support. 252 HP and 36 Defense EVs guarantee that Primal Groudon is never 2HKOed by Zacian-C's Close Combat when healthy. The remaining EVs with a Sassy nature are used to maximize its Special Defense without compromising its damage output. If not running Overheat, Primal Groudon should use a Careful nature. A fully physically defensive EV spread with an Impish nature can be used to make Primal Groudon much better against Zacian-C, but this job is done better by Necrozma-DM, since the latter has reliable recovery and Close Combat is still a 3HKO on physically defensive Primal Groudon. Primal Groudon fits best on balance and bulky offense teams in need of a Primal Kyogre check, Stealth Rock setter, and way of wasting Xerneas's Dynamax turns. It is also a good Zacian-C check, since it is able to switch in on all of said foe's moves except Close Combat and Assurance if entry hazards are in effect. Early-game, play aggressively with Primal Groudon since only defensive Zygarde-C and Refresh Arceus formes truly counter it. Use Stealth Rock if there's a good opportunity to, but don't hesitate to use an attack or Toxic instead if you expect your opponent to send out a powerful wallbreaker like Yveltal, Mega Rayquaza, or Primal Kyogre. Even though Primal Groudon resists most of Zacian-C's moves, Close Combat is too powerful for it to handle, so having a teammate like defensive Necrozma-DM or Zygarde-C is a good idea. Ho-Oh and Primal Groudon form a potent defensive core compressing Stealth Rock and Defog that also works well at wasting Dynamax turns from the likes of Xerneas and Yveltal. Furthermore, Primal Groudon can switch into Water- and Electric-type attacks from Pokemon like Primal Kyogre and Zacian-C, while Ho-Oh can switch into support Arceus-Ground. Having your own Primal Groudon check is important too, so take a look at team options such as Zygarde-C and Arceus-Ground, both of which also improve the matchup against Mega Rayquaza, one of the most dangerous threats to Primal Groudon. Finally, Ditto can come in after Primal Groudon has been defeated by Zacian-C, Xerneas, or Mega Rayquaza and proceed to reverse sweep. It is a recommended teammate, especially if Primal Groudon is running Rest, because Primal Groudon leaves its team dangerously vulnerable to sweepers when asleep.

戰術分析
Primal Groudon is one of the most fearsome offensive threats in AG thanks to its impressive offensive movepool and ability to hit foes incredibly hard both physically and specially while being accompanied by its solid natural bulk, which makes it difficult to revenge kill. Eruption provides Primal Groudon with the ability to break through physically defensive support Arceus formes, notably Arceus-Ground and Arceus-Dark, that would otherwise wall it. Fire Blast can also be used over Eruption for its consistency. This consistency allows Primal Groudon to soft check Zacian-C and Primal Kyogre without having to compromise its wallbreaking prowess. Precipice Blades gives Primal Groudon a tool to do good damage even if it's been chipped enough to reduce Eruption’s power meaningfully, as well as letting it break through specially bulky Pokemon like Chansey, which would otherwise wall it. In addition, Precipice Blades also gives Primal Groudon a way to damage Primal Kyogre, Arceus-Water, and Eternatus. Stone Edge is chosen to hit Flying types, such as Ho-Oh and Mega Rayquaza, that would otherwise switch into Primal Groudon with near impunity. Alternatively, Rock Tomb can be used, trading some power for the ability to cripple switch-ins, notably affecting Zacian-C and Mega Rayquaza that attempt to switch into a predicted Stone Edge or Precipice Blades, respectively. Swords Dance allows Primal Groudon to boost past many Pokemon that would otherwise check it, such as Giratina, Zygarde-C, and Arceus-Water, all of which would otherwise be able to whittle down Primal Groudon's health while recovering off its hits. Swords Dance further strengthens Primal Groudon's offensive presence if it's been chipped too much for Eruption to be useful. Hidden Power Ice can alternatively be used for the ability to KO Zygarde after it switches into one of Primal Groudon's other moves and OHKO Rayquaza as it switches in. Either Stealth Rock or Rest can also be used over Swords Dance. Stealth Rock enables Primal Groudon to take advantage of the many switches that it is capable of forcing, while Rest allows it to recover from chip damage and status in order to replenish Eruption's power. A Hasty nature does not lower Primal Groudon's Special Defense, giving it at least some capability to deal with Primal Kyogre and support Arceus formes while still maximizing its speed and power. Primal Groudon fits well on all manner of balanced and offensive teams thanks to its incredible breaking power, defensive utility, and natural bulk. Because it can struggle to break through defensive Pokemon like Arceus-Water, Zygarde-C, and Giratina, Primal Groudon appreciates teammates that are capable of taking advantage of them, such as Xerneas, Eternatus, and Yveltal. Similarly, Pokemon such as Mega Rayquaza, Eternatus, and Zacian-C that can pressure Primal Groudon's checks are good teammates as well. All of them hugely appreciate Primal Groudon's wallbreaking prowess, which facilitates their late-game cleaning. Gothitelle is another good teammate, as it can trap both Arceus-Water and Zygarde-C lacking Dragon Tail. If Rest is used over Swords Dance, Primal Groudon should be used on a bulkier team, preferably one with either Chansey or Diancie to provide cleric support to complement Rest. On more offensive teams, Primal Groudon's relatively slow Speed can become a hindrance, so it fits best with Sticky Web support. If it's used on offense without Sticky Web support, Primal Groudon should opt for Rock Tomb over Stone Edge in order to punish switches by ensuring that it can get another hit off against potential faster switch-ins. Those teams, in return, appreciate Primal Groudon's ability to heavily pressure most common Defoggers, including Ho-Oh and support Arceus formes. Primal Groudon should be used with caution throughout the match, ideally brought in on free turns or predicted switches in order to minimize chip damage and maximize Eruption's power. Owing to Primal Groudon's weakness to chip damage, it pairs well with reliable Defoggers on balance teams, such as Ho-Oh, Giratina, and support Arceus formes. On offense, however, pressure from Primal Groudon's teammates can prevent the foe from setting Stealth Rock at all. Most of the tier's common Stealth Rock users, including Necrozma-DM, Tyranitar, and opposing defensive Primal Groudon, can't switch into Primal Groudon itself, further reducing opportunities for foes to set Stealth Rock.

戰術分析
Groudon is a threatening setup sweeper in AG thanks to its solid Attack stat and decent natural physical bulk, which can allow it to set up on forced switches against the likes of Necrozma-DM, defensive Primal Groudon, Tyranitar, and Ho-Oh. Precipice Blades is chosen over Earthquake to have a chance to OHKO Arceus-Water and defensive Zygarde after a Swords Dance boost while also breaking Giratina under Dynamax. Stone Edge gives Groudon a vital coverage move, enabling it to OHKO Ho-Oh and Mild Yveltal without a boost and also hit Mega Rayquaza. Notably, after a Swords Dance boost, Stone Edge OHKOes Mild Dynamaxed Yveltal from full, and Max Rockfall OHKOes any Dynamaxed Yveltal. Aerial Ace rounds out the set, as it gives Groudon a way to boost its Speed under Dynamax, allowing it to outspeed almost the entire unboosted metagame after one Max Airstream with a Jolly nature. Life Orb is chosen for its significant damage boost, which allows Groudon to land critical OHKOs on the aforementioned threats after a Swords Dance boost. An Adamant nature ensures these OHKOs, but it is worth noting that a +1 Speed Adamant Groudon cannot outspeed a Jolly Zacian-C. To overcome this issue, a Jolly nature can be used, which allows Groudon to outspeed Xerneas, Yveltal, and Modest Kyogre and Primal Kyogre while still being fairly powerful. Groudon fits best on hyper offense teams, especially those that can provide Sticky Web support to make up for Groudon's average Speed. These teams greatly appreciate Groudon's ability to break through just about every Defogger in the tier, and on them, Groudon often forces the opponent's Dynamax without even needing to Dynamax itself. Groudon greatly appreciates Stealth Rock support, which ensures the OHKO on Arceus-Water and a near-guaranteed one on defensive Zygarde with +2 Precipice Blades, as well as on Yveltal and Primal Kyogre with Stone Edge and Precipice Blades, respectively. Groudon can also fit on balance teams, although its average Speed means that it appreciates paralysis support from Pokemon like defensive Glare Zygarde-C and Thunder Wave Necrozma-DM, both of which can generate more setup turns for Groudon. Wallbreakers that can pressure defensive Zygarde-C and Giratina are important teammates to have on both Sticky Web and balanced teams. Good examples include Swords Dance Arceus formes and Ultra Necrozma on Sticky Web teams, Zacian-C on balance, and Mega Rayquaza on both. Teammates that can outright exploit Zygarde-C and Giratina, such as Yveltal and Xerneas, are equally effective options. If Groudon is used on balance, Perish Song + Whirlpool Arceus-Dark pairs especially well, since it's capable of removing Zygarde-C. Moreover, Arceus-Dark also takes great advantage of Giratina and Lunala, which avoid the OHKO from +2 Precipice Blades and can cripple Groudon with Will-O-Wisp. Since Groudon is weak to Ditto, Zygarde-C can help to Imposter-proof it on balance, while the likes of Mega Rayquaza and Yveltal can provide a Ground immunity on Sticky Web teams. Late-game cleaners that benefit from Groudon's immense wallbreaking capabilities are wise teammates on balance as well, with Zacian-C, Dragon Dance Mega Rayquaza, and Calm Mind Arceus formes being good examples.

戰術分析
This set turns Primal Groudon into both a good Stealth Rock setter and a wallbreaker. Primal Groudon can easily find opportunities to set Stealth Rock up or use Swords Dance against foes it forces out such as Zacian-C and Necrozma-DM. Swords Dance turns Primal Groudon into a powerful wallbreaker that can surprise and decimate bulkier teams lacking Arceus-Ground. It is especially useful for breaking past defensive Zygarde with some prior chip damage, and it also allows Primal Groudon to beat Defoggers such as Lunala and Arceus-Water. Precipice Blades is its strongest STAB attack and achieves nearly perfect coverage with Rock Tomb or Stone Edge, which targets Flying-types such as Ho-Oh and Yveltal. The EV spread guarantees that Primal Groudon is never 2HKOed by Primal Kyogre's Ice Beam after Stealth Rock damage and that Zacian-C never 2HKOes Primal Groudon with Close Combat. The Speed investment makes it faster than positive-natured Arceus formes after one use of Rock Tomb, allowing it to set Stealth Rock versus them reliably. Crucially, it also allows Primal Groudon to outspeed defensive Zygarde and Lunala and potentially break past them. The remaining EVs go in Attack with an Adamant nature to increase its wallbreaking capability. An EV spread of 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe with a Jolly nature also works very nicely as a surprise factor, since it notably lets Primal Groudon outspeed Yveltal and support Arceus-Ground and Speed tie with Timid Primal Kyogre. Usually, it is best to set Stealth Rock up as soon as possible against offensive teams. Against balance teams that rely on defensive Zygarde-C to check Primal Groudon, weaken it first while taking care not to activate Power Construct, then use Swords Dance to break through it the next time Primal Groudon comes in. Having teammates that can handle Mega Rayquaza is important because it doesn't fear much from Primal Groudon; Zacian-C and Eternatus can check it offensively, while defensive Zygarde-C can paralyze it with Glare or phaze it with Dragon Tail as long as Mega Rayquaza doesn't carry a Dragon-type move. Zygarde-C also helps a lot against opposing Primal Groudon. Having solid counterplay to Arceus-Ground such as Ho-Oh and Ferrothorn is required, too. Since this set fits best on offensive teams that can use Primal Groudon as a Stealth Rock setter and wallbreaker that facilitates sweepers' task, sweepers such as Zacian-C, Xerneas, Yveltal, and Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM make for good partners. The former two can also help with checking opposing Yveltal, which can easily use Primal Groudon as an opportunity to switch in and Dynamax. Zacian-C, in particular, greatly appreciates Rock Tomb support, since it prevents Speed-boosting sweepers such as Dragon Dance Mega Rayquaza and Ultra Necrozma from becoming faster than Zacian-C while inflicting enough damage to put them in KO range of Behemoth Blade.

Items Light Ball: When paired with Fling, this lets Groudon paralyze foes while breaking through Focus Sash, paralyze Ground-types, and bypass Taunt. Sitrus Berry: Sitrus Berry gives Groudon a chance to turn some 2HKOs into 3HKOs, such as Zacian-C's Behemoth Blade when using a physically defensive spread. Custap Berry: Groudon often gets into the activation range for Custap Berry, letting it get one last attack in before going down. This can be paired with Endure for more reliable activation, at the cost of coverage or paralysis spreading. EV Spreads 252 HP / 196 SpD / 60 Spe with Careful: This EV spread lets Groudon avoid an OHKO from Modest Life Orb Yveltal's Max Darkness, while outspeeding up to Choice Scarf Kyogre after paralysis. 252 HP / 76 Atk / 116 Def / 4 SpD / 60 Spe with Impish: This spread allows Groudon to avoid a 2HKO from Adamant Zacian-C's Behemoth Blade with Sitrus Berry, while still outspeeding Choice Scarf Kyogre after paralysis. 252 HP / 196 Atk / 60 Spe with Adamant: A more offensive spread is a suitable option for Custap variants, and makes Groudon a better Dynamax user.

戰術分析
Moves Rock Polish boosts Primal Groudon's otherwise average Speed tier into an area that only faster boosting attackers can reach. This makes Rock Polish Primal Groudon very scary for opposing offensive teams. A boost from Swords Dance makes Primal Groudon very difficult to defensively check, leaving only the bulkiest physical walls such as Zygarde-C and Giratina able to stomach a boosted Precipice Blades. Precipice Blades with maximum Attack investment hits very hard and can even 2HKO common support Arceus formes by itself. Stone Edge offers the best dual attack coverage, ensuring that Ground-immune Pokemon such as Lugia, Giratina-O and physically defensive Yveltal are not safe switch-ins. Fire Punch is an alternative option that better hits Celesteela and Skarmory while also maintaining perfect accuracy against the likes of Lugia. Set Details Maximum Attack investment with an Adamant nature gives Primal Groudon the best possible damage output. This allows Primal Groudon to OHKO against the likes of Arceus-Water with a boosted Precipice Blades. 156 Speed EVs ensure that Primal Groudon will be faster than Adamant Necrozma-DM assuming equal Speed boosts while also outspeeding a +1 Adamant maximum Speed Mega Salamence after Rock Polish. The rest of the EVs are allocated to Special Defense, letting Primal Groudon survive two Ice Beams from Primal Kyogre after taking Stealth Rock damage as base forme Groudon, as well as any boosted move from Geomancy Xerneas at full health. Taking investment away from Attack or Speed to invest 144 EVs into Special Defense allows Primal Groudon to take any boosted move from Geomancy Xerneas even after Stealth Rock damage, but this comes at the cost of lowered damage output or a compromised Speed benchmark. Red Orb is required for Primal Reversion. Usage Tips Double Dance Primal Groudon is a wallbreaker and sweeper packed into one set. If it can get a clean setup opportunity, it will prove very hard to stop. This means that this set should be played a bit more cautiously. Avoid switching into strong attacks if it can be helped, because the healthier Primal Groudon is, the easier it becomes to get one boost or even both of them. It isn't uncommon for this set to be preserved until late-game. This set can be brought out early-game in order to be used as a wallbreaker in matchups that it may struggle to do work in, however. Pokemon such as Celesteela and Skarmory should be weakened or removed prior to setting up. It is a waste of Primal Groudon's HP trying to break through these checks if they are healthy. This is irrelevant if Primal Groudon is carrying Fire Punch on this set though, as it will break through them easily with it. Lugia can also prove troublesome if Multiscale is intact, while Ho-Oh proves annoying to Fire Punch variants. Keeping Stealth Rock up will greatly help this set's ability to break both of these Pokemon, regardless of coverage. Forcing a switch can give Primal Groudon the chance to get one boost, and if the opponent did not expect a Double Dance set, they may even send out a Pokemon that this set is intended to beat such as Arceus-Water, giving the opportunity to grab both boosts. This is when Primal Groudon becomes extremely threatening. When the time comes to set up, don't be afraid to take some damage doing so. Do not take damage twice in exchange for both boosts, however, as Primal Groudon may then be too weakened to take down many Pokemon. If this set gets afflicted with Toxic poison while setting up, be prepared to predict around the opponent's switches afterwards. It is likely they will try to minimize their losses to a rampaging Primal Groudon until Toxic damage takes its toll. Team Options Stealth Rock support from Arceus-Fairy, Necrozma-DM, or a dedicated lead such as Deoxys-S or Excadrill is almost essential to increase Primal Groudon's chances of breaking through the enemy team's defenses. Double Dance Primal Groudon enjoys having offensive partners that can assist and follow up on any breakthroughs each one makes. Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, and Yveltal are all capable of damaging different Pokemon to make Primal Groudon's life easier while also helping to cover its Ground-type weakness. Mega Salamence and Rayquaza can share some checks with Primal Groudon, meaning that one can take advantage of an opening from the other. Trappers such as Gothitelle and Mega Gengar are able to trap and KO Pokemon such as support Arceus-Ground and Lugia to make way for Primal Groudon. Offensive Xerneas variants are able to pressure offensive checks to Primal Groudon such as Giratina-O, Rayquaza, Yveltal, and Zygarde-C. Marshadow is also capable of threatening typical checks to this set with its anti-offensive abilities and wallbreaking potential.

戰術分析
Moves Stealth Rock is a vital entry hazard to any team, and Primal Groudon's ability to force many switches make it effective at setting it. STAB Precipice Blades from a base 180 Attack stat is capable of 2HKOing common threats such as offensive Xerneas and Primal Kyogre even without Attack investment, reducing this set's passivity. Overheat limits potential switch-ins to Primal Groudon courtesy of a boost in power from Desolate Land and a high base Special Attack stat. It can also open up a free turn by forcing recovery options from common switch-ins such as Arceus-Ground and Mega Salamence, as well as OHKO Marshadow, something that Precipice Blades cannot do without Attack investment. Toxic cripples many Defog users, making it difficult for them to remove Primal Groudon's Stealth Rock in the long run. It also punishes most Pokemon that would hope to take both of Primal Groudon's STAB attacks, such as Ho-Oh. Lava Plume could be used over Overheat, trading burst damage for consistency along with a good burn rate, further improving Primal Groudon's ability to spread status among the enemy team. This can lead to Primal Groudon pressuring the opponent less due to the lower damage output, however, and it is much more beneficial to afflict some Pokemon such as Arceus-Water with Toxic poison than with a burn. Thunder Wave can be used over Toxic to remove the Speed advantage that Mega Salamence and support Arceus formes have over Primal Groudon, improving the odds of fellow team members and Primal Groudon itself breaking through them. The residual damage of Toxic generally proves more useful, however. Roar can be used over a status option to phaze boosting attackers such as Geomancy Xerneas and Dragon Dance variants of Zygarde-C and Mega Salamence. Set Details Maximum HP investment increases Primal Groudon's overall bulk, allowing it to tank notable hits in combination with further defensive investment. 56 Defense EVs and a Relaxed nature buff Primal Groudon's already impressive Defense stat to the point that it can handle common physical threats. Specifically, this spread can survive a +2 Earthquake from Necrozma-DM, take a +2 Close Combat from Mega Lucario, avoid the 2HKO from Marshadow, and also avoid the OHKO from Dugtrio's Tectonic Rage. Defense investment assists against physical variants of Primal Kyogre as well. The remaining EVs are used in Special Defense to handle typical special attackers such as Primal Kyogre and Xerneas. Primal Groudon can avoid the 2HKO from Primal Kyogre's Ice Beam and avoid the OHKO from boosted Geomancy Xerneas. It also avoids the 2HKO from Choice Scarf Yveltal's Dark Pulse should it ever prove necessary. Red Orb is required for Primal Reversion. Usage Tips The main goal of this set is to support the team by acting as a blanket check to common Pokemon in Ubers, setting Stealth Rock, and forcing predictable plays from the opponent with the usage of Overheat. Aim to set Stealth Rock on forced switches or otherwise free turns, but have a plan on how you will play around the opponent's methods of entry hazard removal. This can range from using Toxic as the enemy Pokemon uses Defog to attacking instead of setting Stealth Rock. Be careful around opposing Primal Kyogre, as they are capable of switching directly into Primal Groudon's Overheat or Stealth Rock and forcing it out immediately. This can cause significant problems if Primal Groudon is the only answer to Primal Kyogre. Primal Groudon's HP is a very important resource, as it is generally the first answer to many different Pokemon in Ubers. Avoid taking unnecessary damage from Pokemon aiming to chip Primal Groudon's HP into range of another foe such as Geomancy Xerneas. This also means avoiding Toxic unless the situation calls for it. Having a cleric on the team makes trading Toxic with enemy Defog users such as Arceus-Water an easier decision. Team Options Support Primal Groudon is capable of fitting with just about every Pokemon in the tier, as its utility and power offer a large amount of usefulness to a team. It tends to find a place on balanced or bulky offense teams. A secondary Water-type resistance is helpful alongside this set, as it can struggle to contain Primal Kyogre by itself. Arceus-Water and Ferrothorn can be common partners to Primal Groudon on balance teams for this reason. Necrozma-DM and Primal Groudon work rather well in tandem with each other, helping to cover Xerneas between them. With Stealth Rock on Primal Groudon, Necrozma-DM can use a variety of offensive sets or even use Stealth Rock as well to gain more chances of keeping the entry hazard up against some teams. Ground-type checks are also wanted alongside Primal Groudon, as it can prove to be an annoying weakness to deal with. Celesteela, Giratina-O, and Zygarde-C can all be good for this purpose, with some combination between the three being plausible. Defog users are helpful to prevent entry hazard damage wearing at Primal Groudon's precious HP. Support Arceus formes, Giratina-O, and Mega Salamence are all good ideas, but more offensive Defoggers such as Choice Scarf Xerneas and Yveltal can also prove useful depending on overall team structure. Although it can be difficult to find and more difficult to fit, a cleric will make Primal Groudon's life much easier when dealing with common Toxic users such as Arceus-Water. Some Xerneas variants are capable of providing this support, as is Heal Bell Magearna.

Moves Rock Polish boosts Primal Groudon's otherwise average Speed tier into an area that only faster boosting attackers can reach. With a mixed moveset alongside Rock Polish, offensive teams struggle to get their ideal damage onto Primal Groudon. Precipice Blades is still used over Earth Power to prevent Primal Groudon from being hopelessly walled by the likes of Blissey and Chansey, and it also comes in handy against Primal Kyogre. Fire Blast is a very powerful attack when boosted by Desolate Land and Special Attack investment. Against neutral targets, it outdamages a maximum Attack Precipice Blades by a decent margin. Hidden Power Ice hits most targets that Primal Groudon's STAB combination misses out on, and it notably allows Primal Groudon to beat Pokemon such as Zygarde-C and Mega Salamence with greater ease than other sets. Dragon Pulse is an alternative option to Hidden Power Ice that trades a 4x super effective hit on Zygarde-C and Mega Salamence in exchange for a 2HKO on Giratina-O. Set Details Maximum Special Attack investment with a Mild nature offers the most power to Fire Blast and Primal Groudon's coverage. Attack investment isn't necessary for this set, as a base 180 Attack stat and the high Base Power of Precipice Blades are enough to still strike special walls hard. 156 Speed EVs ensures that Primal Groudon will be faster than Adamant Necrozma-DM assuming equal Speed boosts while also outspeeding a +1 Adamant maximum Speed Mega Salamence after Rock Polish. The rest of the EVs are allocated to Special Defense, letting Primal Groudon survive two Ice Beams from Primal Kyogre after taking Stealth Rock damage as base forme Groudon, as well as any boosted move from Geomancy Xerneas at full health. Taking investment away from Special Attack or Speed to invest 144 EVs into Special Defense allows Primal Groudon to take any boosted move from Geomancy Xerneas even after Stealth Rock damage, assuming Stealth Rock damage is taken as base forme Groudon, but this comes at the cost of lowered damage output or a compromised Speed benchmark. Red Orb is required for Primal Reversion. Usage Tips Mixed Rock Polish Primal Groudon aims to take advantage of the checks that offensive teams commonly employ as offensive answers to Primal Groudon, namely Arceus-Ground, Mega Salamence, and offensive Zygarde-C. The sheer power behind a neutral Fire Blast can also limit Pokemon such as Yveltal from switching in safely. This set can struggle against balance teams, however, as checks such as Giratina-O, Primal Kyogre, Ho-Oh, and most importantly Arceus-Water are all commonly seen on them. It is wise to get them out of the way or considerably weaken them before attempting to sweep. Set up Rock Polish against offensive teams whenever a suitable chance is given, but avoid taking too much damage while doing so. As this set doesn't boost its own attacking stats, weakening the enemy team into the range for Primal Groudon to clean up is ideal. Stealth Rock support helps immensely with this. Note that due to running no physical bulk and a Mild nature, Primal Groudon will take more damage from physical attacks than usual. This also applies to priority attacks, making this set a little easier to revenge kill. Team Options As this set is good at dealing with typical offensive checks to Primal Groudon, wallbreakers make for good partners to assist in dealing with bulky Pokemon that this set struggles with. Stealth Rock support is very helpful against Ho-Oh, which otherwise walls this set pretty easily. This best comes from dedicated leads such as Deoxys-S and Excadrill, as Stealth Rock Arceus-Fairy and Necrozma-DM struggle against Ho-Oh without Stone Edge, which can be difficult to fit onto their movesets. Wallbreakers such as Rayquaza, Yveltal, and Mega Lucario are all capable partners that can assist in punching holes into the enemy team in order to make Primal Groudon's sweep easier. Ways of pressuring support Arceus formes such as Arceus-Ground and Arceus-Water will be required to prevent them from easily walling this set. Trapping them with Shadow Tag users such as Gothitelle and Mega Gengar is a possible idea, as is simply overpowering them with other Pokemon such as Primal Kyogre. If using this set on a more balanced team, Zygarde-C makes for a great Ho-Oh answer, a very desirable trait in a partner.

Moves Stealth Rock's importance to a competitive team is huge, and this Primal Groudon set is capable of setting it while also offensively disrupting common Defog users. STAB Precipice Blades from a base 180 Attack stat is capable of 2HKOing common threats such as offensive Xerneas and Primal Kyogre even without investment. Overheat's damage output when factoring in harsh sunlight and maximum Special Attack investment is lethal to the majority of the tier. Even against Pokemon that resist it, it can easily force recovery moves or chunk them for a lot of damage. For example, if an offensive Salamence switches into this Primal Groudon set prior to Mega Evolution, it can be outright OHKOed by Overheat after Stealth Rock damage. Toxic helps greatly with pressuring common Defog users that would want to switch into Primal Groudon and remove its hazards, such as Arceus-Water and Giratina-O. Rock Tomb slows down faster Pokemon that may try to take advantage of a resistance or immunity to Primal Groudon's STAB moves. This can be effective against Ho-Oh, Yveltal, Mega Salamence, and varying support Arceus formes. Hidden Power Ice is typically unexpected on a Stealth Rock set, and with Special Attack investment it will catch the likes of Mega Salamence, Zygarde, and Giratina-O for varying levels of damage, or lethal amounts in the case of Mega Salamence. Dragon Tail is another option for the fourth slot that forces Defog users such as support Arceus formes, Mega Salamence, and Giratina-O to take a good chunk of damage and be forced into choosing one move before being phazed, limiting their effectiveness as Defog users. This works even better if they can be caught on the switch. Set Details A Mild nature and maximum Special Attack investment turn Primal Groudon's Overheat into an extremely powerful nuke, giving it a lot of offensive presence. To showcase Overheat's power, Swords Dance Arceus-Ground variants can be OHKOed after Stealth Rock damage. 152 Speed EVs allow Primal Groudon to outspeed Adamant Necrozma-DM while also outspeeding Pokemon up to maximum Speed Arceus formes and Mega Salamence after their Speed has been lowered by Rock Tomb. The rest of the EVs are allocated to Special Defense, letting Primal Groudon survive two Ice Beams from Primal Kyogre after taking Stealth Rock damage as base forme Groudon, as well as any boosted move from Geomancy Xerneas at full health. Red Orb is required for Primal Reversion. Usage Tips As this set is relatively proactive against common Defog users, setting up Stealth Rock early can be a good idea. Depending on what fourth move Primal Groudon is running, the matchup against specific Defog users can change. Toxic is capable of messing with any Defog user that switches into Primal Groudon when combined with the threat of its STAB options. The usage of Stealth Rock may lure Zygarde into a false sense of security, which can be taken advantage of with Hidden Power Ice should it switch in. Hidden Power Ice is also very effective against Mega Salamence, a potential Defog user that handles most of Primal Groudon's attacks. Rock Tomb is effective against faster switch-ins and may scare them out with the fear of Overheat next turn, but it most notably gives this set the ability to hit Ho-Oh, which can be another potential Defog user to watch out for. Using Rock Tomb or Hidden Power Ice can make this set pretty helpless against Arceus-Water, so be ready to handle it with other methods. Be careful with Overheat usage, as it may end up giving away a free turn to Primal Kyogre or a setup sweeper if Primal Groudon is at -2. Dragon Tail forces most Defog users to decide between healing themselves, removing Stealth Rock, or damaging Primal Groudon in some way before being phazed out. It's best used after Stealth Rock has already been set. After Primal Groudon phazes an incoming check with Dragon Tail, it may be unable to come in again without being KOed by Overheat. This applies to Arceus-Ground and Mega Salamence specifically. Team Options This set better fits teams that want Stealth Rock support to come from Primal Groudon, but without the lower damage output of a defensive support set. Some form of an overall offensive team will be desired, as this set cannot stand up to strong attackers for very long. Due to this set's offensive EV investment, it cannot handle Xerneas very reliably. Support from Magearna or Necrozma-DM is highly valued to assist against it. Mega Salamence, whether it be a Defog or Dragon Dance variant, stands out as a partner that can support this Primal Groudon's playstyle of a good offense being a good defense. It can take on opposing Primal Groudon and Ho-Oh while also functioning somewhat as a revenge killer. Giratina-O follows a similar train of thought by offensively checking opposing Primal Groudon while spreading status to boost the damage of its own Hex against the likes of support Arceus formes. Dragon Dance Zygarde and Swords Dance Arceus-Ground are able to take advantage of this set's ability to mess with Giratina-O and Mega Salamence. This set can struggle to keep Stealth Rock up against some Defog Arceus formes such as Arceus-Water in the long run if Toxic isn't being used, and it will require some assistance to prevent them from keeping their side of the field clear of entry hazards. This can come from Shadow Tag users such as Gothitelle and Mega Gengar or from the likes of Thunder Primal Kyogre and Life Orb Yveltal, which can attempt to break through it.

Moves Swords Dance may not seem like a sensible option without Attack investment, but it serves to limit the potential number of defensive walls that may try to handle Primal Groudon and makes the set overall more threatening against balance teams. The likes of Zygarde and Arceus-Water can still be 2HKOed by a boosted Precipice Blades, despite the lack of Attack investment. Precipice Blades serves as the main physical attack on the set that Swords Dance aims to boost the damage of, and it is very useful for taking on most Pokemon that try to handle this set's other moves such as Primal Kyogre and support Arceus formes. Rock Tomb's purpose is to take down Ho-Oh, which handles Primal Groudon's STAB options, and slow down faster Pokemon that try to switch in. Anything between this set's Speed investment and maximum Speed Arceus formes will be slowed down to the point that Primal Groudon will move first. Eruption can combine well with Rock Tomb and is Primal Groudon's strongest possible attack when at full HP, OHKOing offensive Arceus-Ground on the switch and having a good chance to OHKO offensive Mega Salamence after Stealth Rock damage. It has the notable downside of losing effectiveness as Primal Groudon takes damage, however. Overheat or Fire Blast can also be considered in place of Eruption for more consistent damage. Set Details 152 Speed EVs allow Primal Groudon to outspeed Adamant Necrozma-DM while also outspeeding Pokemon up to maximum Speed Arceus formes and Mega Salamence after their Speed has been lowered by Rock Tomb. 144 Special Defense EVs help to prevent special attackers such as Geomancy Xerneas and Primal Kyogre from overpowering Primal Groudon with coverage moves. It will survive any +2 attack from Geomancy Xerneas after Stealth Rock damage, assuming Stealth Rock damage is taken as base forme Groudon. The remaining EVs are used in Special Attack to boost the power of Primal Groudon's special Fire-type move. Swords Dance acts as the damage boost to Precipice Blades on this set, meaning investment in Attack isn't as necessary. Red Orb is required for Primal Reversion. Usage Tips Mixed Swords Dance sets are all-out offensive in nature and aim to punch holes into the enemy team. Bulky teams can struggle to contain a Primal Groudon set that has the ability to hit hard both physically and specially. However, there are bulky Pokemon capable of handling this set. A healthy Zygarde-C is a pretty good answer, for instance, which means that careful play will be required to keep Zygarde from activating Power Construct safely. Getting Primal Groudon in safely and keeping it healthy via U-turn and Volt Switch from the likes of Mega Scizor or Magearna can give a good opportunity to start punching holes. Eruption can catch many offensive switch-ins to Primal Groudon by surprise, easily OHKOing Yveltal, and dealing very high damage to Arceus-Ground and Mega Salamence. Against offensive teams, this set is likely to play more of a burst damage-dealing role with the usage of Rock Tomb and Fire-type coverage. Swords Dance isn't likely to be of much use in such a matchup. This combination of moves can prove very difficult for the opponent to scout without taking heavy damage on a crucial Pokemon in the process, which can give Primal Groudon a great advantage. Until all four moves are revealed, this set can prove to be unpredictable. If using Eruption, avoid taking any damage when switching in. It only takes 13% worth of chip damage on Primal Groudon for Eruption to lose enough power to where Overheat is equal in damage output, and it will only get worse. Team Options This set best fits on bulky offense teams that can support the idea of their Primal Groudon being an all-out offensive variant, with a solid backup plan to handling things that Primal Groudon would usually be the first answer to. Bringing methods of getting Primal Groudon in safely and keeping it from heavy damage is also a good strategy. Magearna is a great teammate that suits the above criteria well, being able to act as a good primary answer to Xerneas in place of Primal Groudon while also helping this set get in against ideal targets such as slower Steel-types with Volt Switch. Stealth Rock setters such as Necrozma-DM and Dialga can prove useful for added chip damage. Necrozma-DM provides another Xerneas check, while Dialga is able to offensively pressure Mega Salamence and Giratina-O a little better. U-turn from the likes of Mega Scizor or Choice item variants of Yveltal are also handy to get Primal Groudon in safely. Arceus-Water can provide a good fallback against Primal Kyogre and opposing Ground-type Pokemon. Ferrothorn is also capable of checking Primal Kyogre while providing Spikes support to help Primal Groudon with its wallbreaking efforts.

戰術分析
Moves Stealth Rock is a valuable entry hazard for spreading damage across the enemy team and limiting the effectiveness of Flying-types such as Ho-Oh, Yveltal, and Rayquaza. Swords Dance, when combined with Stealth Rock, allows this Primal Groudon variant to be both a utility entry hazard setter and a wallbreaker at the same time against Defog users such as support Arceus formes, Giratina, and Ho-Oh that would try to remove Stealth Rock. Precipice Blades is capable of 2HKOing typical support Arceus formes such as Arceus-Water, OHKOing them at +2. Rock Tomb targets switch-ins like Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Mega Salamence while also slowing all Arceus formes down to the point where Primal Groudon can strike them first. This, along with the threat of a boosted Precipice Blades, heavily limits their ability to use Defog on Primal Groudon. Stone Edge is a stronger Rock-type move that proves beneficial against Giratina-O and Mega Salamence and has the power to OHKO defensive Ho-Oh at the cost of lacking a method to slow Arceus formes and other faster Pokemon. Smack Down is a niche option that gives Primal Groudon the ability to remove the Ground-type immunity of common switch-ins, opening up the possibility of using the stronger Precipice Blades against them. This proves especially useful against Skarmory and Celesteela, as Rock-type coverage moves tend to lack the power to beat them, whereas Precipice Blades will heavily damage them. Set Details The given EV spread allows Primal Groudon to survive +2 Focus Blast from Geomancy Xerneas after taking Stealth Rock damage as base forme Groudon, survive +1 Double-Edge from Adamant Mega Salamence, and outspeed Adamant Necrozma-DM, with the rest of the EVs put into Attack with an Adamant nature to boost damage output. An EV spread of 172 Atk / 144 SpD / 192 Spe with a Jolly nature allows Primal Groudon to outspeed Dragon Dance variants of Zygarde-C prior to boosts, enabling a potential +2 hit on it before it sets up Substitute or Dragon Dance boosts. It will also survive +2 Focus Blast from Geomancy Xerneas after Stealth Rock damage. Maximum Speed investment instead of Special Defense is also valid to Speed tie with opposing Primal Kyogre. Red Orb is required for Primal Reversion. Usage Tips This set preys on Pokemon that assume Primal Groudon will struggle to punish their attempts at entry hazard removal. Setting Stealth Rock on forced switches is ideal. It works out better if the opponent switches to a Defog user such as a support Arceus forme, Ho-Oh, or Giratina, as Primal Groudon can then reveal Swords Dance or Rock Tomb and surprise the opponent, likely putting them into an unfavorable situation where they have to decide between dealing with Primal Groudon and the Stealth Rock it can set. Giratina-O is a bit harder to handle without Stone Edge or Smack Down, as even a boosted Rock Tomb can struggle to make Primal Groudon win should it come to a duel. Managing Primal Groudon's HP and getting chip damage onto Giratina-O will be key to setting up Stealth Rock against it. Using Rock Tomb on predicted switches can make dueling enemy Pokemon easier or make it easier for a teammate to switch in and handle the foe due to the Speed drop. Rarer variants of Arceus-Ground that carry Defog will give this set a very hard time if Primal Groudon has taken any damage, as Arceus-Ground is faster and has the ability to decide between using Defog and KOing Primal Groudon with Judgment before it can retaliate with boosted attacks, something other support Arceus formes cannot do. This means that Primal Groudon may have to use Swords Dance as Arceus-Ground switches in to give it the necessary pressure to set Stealth Rock while threatening to OHKO with a boosted Precipice Blades, but it will likely emerge severely damaged or unable to set Stealth Rock in the process. In general, be wary of this matchup. The best method for the opponent to deal with this set is to simply overpower Primal Groudon, as very few Defog users can safely remove the Stealth Rock this Primal Groudon variant sets due to brute force getting the better of them. Primal Groudon still has other utility in checking threats such as Primal Kyogre and Xerneas, so be wary of taking too much damage unless teammates can safely handle threats in exchange for Primal Groudon setting Stealth Rock. Team Options Stealth Rock + Swords Dance Primal Groudon excels at forcing bulky teams into difficult situations. The downside of this is that Primal Groudon likely has to duel enemy Defog users to keep Stealth Rock up and may come out too damaged to check threats. This means that extra checks to various threats that Primal Groudon would help against are ideal. Necrozma-DM is one of the ideal partners to this set. It offers a secondary check to Xerneas and appreciates Primal Groudon's ability to break past many answers such as Arceus-Water and Ho-Oh, with Primal Groudon even being able to set Stealth Rock to limit Ho-Oh's ability to check Necrozma-DM. Ultra Necrozma sets are also very potent, doubling down on the wallbreaking ability. Offensive Primal Kyogre checks such as Rayquaza, Palkia, and Giratina-O come in handy for situations where Primal Kyogre switches into Primal Groudon for free. Having sufficient offensive strength across the team is key to prevent Primal Kyogre from dealing too much damage to teams that otherwise lack secondary checks. Xerneas also benefits from the pressure this Primal Groudon set can bring to the table against its Steel-type checks. With a Choice Scarf set, Xerneas can threaten many offensive Pokemon, most notably Yveltal, and provide cleric support, both of which are important traits, as this Primal Groudon variant best deals with bulkier teams and not offensive ones. Geomancy sets can also provide offensive pressure and enjoy Ho-Oh being weakened. Many Ghost-types such as Lunala and Marshadow are capable of working alongside this Primal Groudon set. Both of them enjoy Stealth Rock support and additional pressure against various Arceus formes. Lunala provides a check to various threats as long as Shadow Shield is intact and threatens support Arceus-Ground. Marshadow offers revenge killing potential against many offensive threats. Offensive Arceus formes such as Extreme Killer Arceus, Arceus-Ground, and Arceus-Flying all offer various benefits to offensive teams and fit well with this set. Extreme Killer Arceus offers strong priority against offensive teams, Arceus-Ground offers sweeping potential with Calm Mind or Swords Dance, and Arceus-Flying helps against opposing Ground-types and Marshadow.

Eruption is Primal Groudon's best way to deal damage quickly, 2HKOing anything that doesn't resist Fire when at full power. Earth Power complements Eruption by hitting common Fire-resistant Pokemon like Incineroar and opposing Primal Groudon, but it's important to chip Incineroar into KO range; otherwise, its 50% Berry will be activated should it be holding one. Overheat is another extremely powerful Fire-type STAB move Primal Groudon makes perfect use of, as it can OHKO Xerneas before it boosts with Geomancy and isn't reliant on its remaining HP unlike Eruption. Roar trades the attacking option to be a one-time check to boosted Xerneas, as it can take the Moonblast and then phaze it. Protect is necessary for conserving HP and keeping Primal Groudon safe from faster attackers for a turn, including Z-Move users like Lunala and Ultra Necrozma. Hidden Power Ice has limited usefulness, but it is justifiable for hitting Mega Salamence and Mega Rayquaza. A Timid nature with 252 Speed EVs is generally preferred to be as fast as possible, ensuring you Speed tie at worst with opposing Primal Groudon, but running Modest nets a guaranteed OHKO on 4 HP Xerneas with Overheat, as well as way better rolls on bulky Primal Groudon with Earth Power. Because special attacking Primal Groudon focuses on Speed and power rather than bulk, it plays better on fast-paced teams that match its tempo. This is typically in the form of Mega Kangaskhan and Tornadus, which open games fast with Fake Out and Tailwind to get the ball rolling. Mega Salamence can also be a great partner for it, as it checks opposing Primal Groudon. Xerneas and Ultra Necrozma enjoy its ability to threaten Steel-types, though the latter prefers physical Primal Groudon more often due to it matching up better against Incineroar.

Precipice Blades is Primal Groudon's best Ground STAB move, as the potential damage output is too high to consider more accurate moves with lower payoff such as Earthquake and Stomping Tantrum. It's powerful enough to OHKO Tapu Koko at -1 Attack and specially defensively Incineroar otherwise. Fire Punch serves as a more reliable STAB option that's capable of OHKOing Grass- and Steel-types such as Amoonguss, Mega Metagross, and Kartana under Desolate Land. Swords Dance allows Primal Groudon to boost its already sky-high Attack to insane levels, letting it OHKO Xerneas with +2 Fire Punch and counteract Intimidate. Dragon Claw is a good coverage option for Mega Salamence and Mega Rayquaza, which would otherwise wall it. Substitute allows Primal Groudon to block Intimidate and Spore while also giving it more freedom to attack, as it can safely sponge a hit from Primal Kyogre or opposing Primal Groudon that it would not have been able to otherwise. 108 HP and 252 Special Defense EVs guarantee that Primal Groudon will always survive an Earth Power from opposing Modest Primal Groudon, while 148 Attack EVs let Primal Groudon always OHKO 4 HP Mega Rayquaza at -1 Defense with Dragon Claw. Bulky Primal Groudon typically plays games at a slower pace because it isn't sweeping everything in a matter of turns, so pairing it with Pokemon like Incineroar, Tapu Fini, and Amoonguss, which thrive in this playstyle, is advised. A Pokemon to help with the Primal Groudon mirror match is advised, usually in the form of Mega Salamence or Groundium Z Landorus-T + Mega Gengar, as the former can wall it outright, while the latter can trap and remove it with Tectonic Rage. Primal Groudon is a great partner for Xerneas and Ultra Necrozma, as it can remove Incineroar, Mega Metagross, and Celesteela.

Moves Stealth Rock provides immense support by chipping down opposing threats. Swords Dance is an alternative option if another teammate already has Stealth Rock, enabling Primal Groudon to break through its checks such as Sablenite Mew and Hippowdon after one setup boost. It also helps Primal Groudon in covering threats that would otherwise check a purely mixed set such as Landorus-T due to it acting as a hybrid of its previous sets. Precipice Blades acts as a primary Ground-type STAB move that hits most neutral targets incredibly hard even when unboosted. Overheat is Primal Groudon's secondary STAB option that decimates the majority of its physical checks such as Arceus-Ground, Buzzwole, and Skarmory under the harsh sunlight, making Primal Groudon incredibly difficult to properly account for defensively. Eruption is a slightly more powerful option that can be used instead, as it does not lower Primal Groudon's offensive capabilities after every use; however, it relies on it staying relatively healthy. Stone Edge is a great coverage option that lets Primal Groudon target Flying-types that would like to come in against its Ground-type STAB moves such as Zapdos, Ho-Oh, and Pinsirite Entei. Smack Down may be used instead with the added benefit of grounding the aforementioned Flying-types so that Primal Groudon can target them with its Ground-type moves the following turn. However, it inflicts much less damage overall. Hidden Power Ice is another useful coverage option that can be run in the last slot to lure in and take out common Dragon-type switch-ins such as Pinsirite Zygarde, Mega Salamence, Zygarde-C, and Rayquaza, all of which can stomach Primal Groudon's STAB moves. Toxic is a useful utility option that may be used to cripple some of Primal Groudon's most common switch-ins, which include Manectite Mew, Gliscor, and Giratina-O, deterring them for the rest of the match. Set Details EVs are fully invested in Primal Groudon's Special Attack and Speed in order to maximize its offensive capabilities. A Naughty nature is preferred, as the reduced Defense from a Lonely nature would give Primal Groudon a slightly harder time checking threats such as Entei and Kartana, and it still lets Primal Groudon hit as hard as possible both physically and specially. A Naive nature may also be used to maximize Primal Groudon's Speed, letting it outpace threats such as Adamant Altarianite Zygarde and Manectite Magearna. A Naive nature also allows it to outspeed threats such as Lucarionite Terrakion and Lunala with Sticky Webs support. However, the extra boost in power provided by a Naughty nature is usually more useful in most cases. Desolate Land provides Primal Groudon with a crucial immunity to Water-type moves and a boost to its Fire-type STAB moves, letting it deal colossal damage to most neutral targets. Red Orb is required to allow Groudon to undergo Primal Reversion, turning it into a devastating wallbreaker. Usage Tips This Primal Groudon set aims at punching holes through the opposing team by utilizing its amazing mixed offensive potential to break through the majority of defensive threats in the tier. This means that Primal Groudon should primarily be using its STAB moves throughout the beginning of the match in order to wear down opposing walls for its teammates. Stealth Rock should be used when Primal Groudon can force and incoming check to switch in, as it can leave itself in a disadvantageous position if it decides to use the utility option versus common Magic Bounce users such as Blissey and Mew alongside other defensive threats that can threaten to wear it down immensely like Gliscor and opposing Primal Groudon. If Primal Groudon is carrying Swords Dance, it can exploit the switches it forces as an opportunity to set up and potentially break through its aforementioned checks. Primal Groudon should utilize its Fire-type STAB move when luring in threats that would otherwise appreciate coming in against Precipice Blades such as Hippowdon, Aggronite Buzzwole, and Landorus-T. Primal Groudon should not utilize Overheat too liberally, as otherwise it will be forced to switch out because of the Special Attack drops. If running Eruption, Primal Groudon should prioritize conserving its health to maximize the power of its Fire-type STAB move. Toxic is a great way to punish incoming defensive threats that can take on any of Primal Groudon's attacking options; however, be mindful of potential Magic Bounce users again, as Primal Groudon does not appreciate having the status condition afflicted upon itself. Team Options Additional wallbreakers such as Cameruptite Magearna and Tapu Lele can help provide additional offensive pressure to Primal Groudon's checks like Lucarionite Zygarde, Giratina, and Latiasite Toxapex, while the aforementioned threats also appreciate Primal Groudon's ability to set up Stealth Rock in return. Checks to opposing Ground-types, which include Gliscor, Golisopod, and Ho-Oh, can be extremely useful for Primal Groudon, as they can help cover its sole weakness when factoring in the effects of the harsh sunlight. Sticky Web support from setters like Shuckle may also be useful in order to enable Primal Groudon to outpace threats such as Terrakion, Kartana, and Tapu Lele; however, it should be noted that Primal Groudon should be running a Naughty nature if used in conjunction with Sticky Web. Partners that can set up Stealth Rock may be necessary if Primal Groudon chooses to forego the option itself, as the extra entry hazard chip damage can be crucial at times to secure certain 2HKOs against targets such as Mew and Zygarde. Good setters include Terrakion, Landorus-T, and Skarmory. Alternatively, team members that can remove entry hazards such as Arceus-Ground, Zapdos, and Mew aid Primal Groudon by removing entry hazards that can wear it down over time. Partners that can combat offensive Sticky Web teams may also provide utility considering Primal Groudon's weakness to the aforementioned archetype. Good examples include Altarianite Zygarde, Pinsirite Kartana, and Yveltal. Cleric and Wish support from partners like Blissey, Magearna, Shaymin-S, and Jirachi can be used to great effect especially if Primal Groudon is running Eruption due to its lack of reliable recovery, prolonging its longevity immensely and increasing the power of its STAB move as well.

Moves Stealth Rock is a great utility move that provides both Primal Groudon and its teammates immense support by chipping down opposing threats. Precipice Blades acts as Primal Groudon's primary STAB move, allowing it to target the Fire-, Steel-, and Electric-types it's intended to check such as Raikou, Victini, and Magearna while still dealing consistent damage against most neutral targets. Overheat is a powerful secondary STAB option especially under the harsh sunlight that can break through threats that would like to come into Primal Groudon's Ground-type attacks such as Arceus-Ground and Aggronite Buzzwole. The burst damage also aids Primal Groudon in providing immediate offensive momentum to its team, as it usually forces out offensive threats due to the fear of Overheat. Lava Plume is a more reliable yet considerably weaker option that provides Primal Groudon the chance to burn its targets, letting it check physical threats slightly better. Toxic is a great utility move that can cripple opposing walls such as Gliscor, Mew, and most support Arceus formes, preventing them from switching into Primal Groudon repeatedly throughout the match. Primal Groudon can run Roar over either Overheat or Toxic to phaze certain setup boosting threats such as Manaphy, Xerneas, and Altarianite Zygarde, preventing the aforementioned threats from sweeping its team. However, it generally offers much less utility compared to its other supportive options, making it less desirable as a result. Set Details 160 EVs are invested in Defense with a Relaxed nature to ensure that Primal Groudon avoids the 2HKO from threats such as Lucarionite Terrakion and Necrozma-DM. The rest of its EVs are invested in both HP and Special Defense to turn Primal Groudon into a respectable specially defensive tank that can check certain attackers such as Magearna, Azelf, Raikou, and Manaphy more consistently, allowing it to avoid the 2HKO from their coverage moves. Primal Groudon can still choose to run maximum investment in Special Defense with a Sassy nature to better check threats such as Manaphy, Magearna, and Volcarona, but the lack in physically defensive investment means that certain physical wallbreakers like Kartana and Zeraora have a slightly easier time breaking through it. Desolate Land sets harsh sunlight, granting Primal Groudon a crucial immunity to Water-type moves, permitting it to come into threats it otherwise would be unable to such as Golisopod and Manaphy. Red Orb is required to undergo Primal Reversion, granting Groudon an additional Fire typing that lets it check Fairy- and Fire-types. Usage Tips Primal Groudon is best used as a defensive pivot that is able to come in against most specially attacking threats such as Raikou, Azelf, Magearna, and Volcarona, force them out, and proceed to set up Stealth Rock reliably. However, due to Primal Groudon's lack of reliable recovery, it is advised to preserve its HP as much as possible so it can pivot in against threats such as Entei and Magearna without being worn down. Therefore, sacrificing a teammate may be necessary at times to bring in Primal Groudon safely. Moreover, Primal Groudon should set Stealth Rock whenever it is able to force a switch, as it can otherwise be worn down rather quickly if it chooses to set it up versus threats such as Terrakion and Kartana. Overheat is best used to hit key targets that would like to switch into Precipice Blades such as Zapdos, Arceus-Ground, and Landorus-T. However, one should not mindlessly spam the move, as the drop in Special Attack often forces Primal Groudon out alongside the fear of potentially letting in Blue Orb users in for free. Toxic should be used to cripple opposing defensive walls such as Venusaurite Zapdos and Arceus-Fairy, severely hampering their longevity as they come in in an attempt to check Primal Groudon. Be mindful of common Magic Bounce users such as Mew, Mandibuzz, and Blissey, as they can reflect Stealth Rock and Toxic, which can leave Primal Groudon in an unfavorable spot. Team Options Checks to opposing Ground-types such as Manectite Mew, Skarmory, and Giratina-O can all be useful partners for Primal Groudon, as they help deal with the threats that can break through it like Lucarionite Zygarde, Arceus-Ground, Landorus-T, and Gliscor. Wallbreakers that can capitalize on Primal Groudon's ability to set up Stealth Rock such as Kartana, Tapu Lele, and Zygarde may be considered as well due to the entry hazard chip weakening down their respective checks. Entry hazard removal can be very useful for Primal Groudon, as it is often pivoted in against many attacks, and the chip damage can wear it down significantly. Good partners for this role include Mew, support Arceus formes, and Zapdos. Due to Primal Groudon's ability to check most Magearna variants, teammates that are otherwise weak to Magearna such as Darkrai, Tapu Lele, and Arceus-Fairy pair well with it. Cleric support from teammates like Blissey and Magearna is also recommended due to Primal Groudon's tendency to be statused by the threats it usually comes in against such as Arceus-Fairy and Golisopod. Blissey is especially useful for passing Wish to Primal Groudon, which can help increase its longevity immensely.

Moves Rock Polish enhances Primal Groudon's Speed to respectable levels, enabling it to outpace key threats such as Diancite Tapu Lele, Terrakion, and Darkrai after one boost. Fire Blast is an incredibly powerful STAB move when used in conjunction with the harsh sunlight, permitting Primal Groudon to heavily dent most neutral targets that it hits, including most support Arceus formes. Precipice Blades acts as Primal Groudon's secondary STAB move, hitting the specially defensive walls that otherwise stomach its primary STAB move such as Blissey and opposing defensive Primal Groudon for considerable damage. Hidden Power Ice is a great coverage option that covers the Dragon and Flying-types that can otherwise wall Primal Groudon's STAB moves such as Zygarde, Mega Salamence, and Giratina-O. Stone Edge may be used instead to hit specific targets such as Ho-Oh and Golisopod for more considerable damage; however, Hidden Power Ice generally provides more coverage. Set Details EVs are fully invested in Primal Groudon's Special Attack and Speed in order to maximize its offensive capabilities. A Naughty nature is preferred, as the reduced Defense from a Lonely nature would give Primal Groudon a slightly harder time checking threats such as Entei, and it still lets Primal Groudon hit as hard as possible both physically and specially. The Speed investment allows Primal Groudon to outspeed Necrozma-DM without any boosts and outspeed key threats such as Lucarionite Terrakion and Ultra Necrozma with Sticky Web support. Desolate Land amps up the power of Primal Groudon's Fire-type moves, letting it hit most neutral targets incredibly hard under the harsh sunlight. It also lets Primal Groudon soak up any Water-type moves used against it, enabling it to check threats it would otherwise be unable to like Primal Kyogre and Manaphy. Red Orb is equipped to allow Groudon to undergo Primal Reversion, turning it into one of the best mixed wallbreakers in the tier. Usage Tips Primal Groudon should only set up once checks such as Venusaurite Hippowdon, Blissey, Ho-Oh, Lunala, Gliscor, and Arceus-Ground have been properly weakened beforehand, as it can otherwise lose the offensive momentum it needs if the aforementioned threats are kept relatively healthy beforehand. Its STAB moves should be spammed the majority of the time due to how much damage they can do against most neutral targets, where coverage options such as Hidden Power Ice and Stone Edge should be used to hit threats such as Zygarde and Ho-Oh, respectively. Team Options Due to this set's lack of Stealth Rock, partners that can set up the entry hazard are extremely beneficial, as they can wear down Primal Groudon's checks in Ho-Oh, Golisopod, and Zapdos. Good setters include Landorus-T, Arceus-Fairy, and Terrakion. Offensive threats such as Tapu Lele, Kartana, and Darkrai appreciate Primal Groudon's ability to break through most defensive cores, where the aforementioned threats can often clean up late-game once Primal Groudon has broken down walls such as Mew and Skarmory. Partners that can cover Primal Groudon's sole weakness to Ground-type threats when factoring in the effects of Desolate Land such as Golisopod, Landorus-T, and Pinsirite Cobalion may be useful, as they provide Primal Groudon a fail-safe option in covering Pokemon such as Arceus-Ground and opposing Primal Groudon. Entry hazard removers like Zapdos and Arceus-Ground can provide utility in eliminating the entry hazard chip damage that may severely weaken Primal Groudon throughout the match and leave it prone to being revenge killed. They also relieve it from the potential Speed drop of Sticky Web, which can otherwise hamper its sweeping capabilities.

Moves Stealth Rock provides both Primal Groudon and its teammates with immense support by chipping down opposing threats. Swords Dance enables Primal Groudon to break through some of its checks that may attempt to wall it such as Hippowdon and Sablenite Blissey, meaning it can set up and keep entry hazards on the opposing side more reliably. Precipice Blades acts as Primal Groudon's primary STAB move, dealing a significant amount of damage against most targets with the slight drawback of it being inaccurate. Earthquake can be used as a more reliable option; however, the decrease in power can be noticeable at times especially when facing threats such as Buzzwole, Arceus-Ground, and Mew. Rock-type coverage complements Primal Groudon's STAB Ground-type moves perfectly, hitting the Flying-and Grass-types that would attempt to switch into Precipice Blades such as Mega Salamence and Celebi. Smack Down is useful in grounding Flying-types and Pokemon with Levitate such as Skarmory and Latiasite Toxapex, respectively, so that Primal Groudon can hit them with its Ground-type STAB move the following turn. Stone Edge is a much more powerful option that can deal more immediate damage against threats where the effects of Smack Down would not matter as much, such as Ho-Oh and Golisopod. Set Details This set calls for maximized investment in Attack EVs with an Adamant nature to fully capitalize on Primal Groudon's amazing offensive presence, allowing it to 2HKO the likes of Lucarionite Zygarde and Altarianite Landorus-T with Precipice Blades. The given Special Defense and HP investment ensures that Primal Groudon can survive a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas as well as avoid being KOed by Altarianite Landorus-T's Earthquake and Arceus-Ground's Judgment. More Speed investment can be given to enable Primal Groudon to outpace certain threats such as Necrozma-DM, Gliscor, and opposing Primal Groudon; however, forfeiting defensive investment means that it can struggle to properly check the threats it's supposed to. Alternatively, Primal Groudon can run more Special Defense by forfeiting investment in Attack to better check threats such as Magearna and Primal Kyogre. Red Orb is required for Primal Reversion, turning Groudon into a devastating wallbreaker with Desolate Land to activate harsh sunlight and blessing it with a crucial immunity to Water-type moves that permits it to come into threats it otherwise would be unable to such as Golisopod and Manaphy. Usage Tips Stealth Rock should be set up as soon as possible, as the extra chip damage it provides can be extremely beneficial in breaking through the opposing team much more consistently. Primal Groudon can often find the opportunity to set it up due to the numerous switches it can force when facing threats such as Magearna and Raikou. However, one must be mindful of potential Magic Bounce users that can reflect Stealth Rock such as Blissey, Mew, and Buzzwole. In this case, Primal Groudon should primarily attempt to properly break through the aforementioned threats by using its attacking moves or setting up a Swords Dance so that it can threaten common Sablenite users subsequently on the switch. Smack Down can be properly used to lure in and exploit threats that can switch into Primal Groudon's Ground-type STAB moves such as Zapdos, Latiasite Toxapex, and Skarmory, as it can scare out the aforementioned threats after grounding them, potentially giving it an opportunity to setup entry hazards or boost its Attack via Swords Dance. Team Options Primal Groudon appreciates partners that can check opposing Ground-types such as Zapdos, Skarmory, and Golisopod, as the aforementioned Pokemon cover Primal Groudon's sole weakness. Special attackers such as Magearna, Lunala, Darkrai, and Tapu Lele appreciate Primal Groudon's ability to break through walls like Blissey, Sablenite Magerana, and Gyaradosite Toxapex, while the aforementioned wallbreakers can dent walls that Primal Groudon may struggle with such as Hippowdon, Buzzwole, and Giratina. Other physical wallbreakers can help apply additional offensive pressure to Primal Groudon's checks, overwhelming the opposing team. Good examples include Terrakion, Ho-Oh, Entei, and Lucarionite Zygarde. While Primal Groudon can switch into certain neutral special attacks due to the small investment in special bulk, it can still be easily worn down if repeatedly brought in against threats such as Magearna and Raikou. Therefore, teammates that can ease its burden such as Entei and Aggronite Mew may be beneficial as well. Pokemon that can use Primal Groudon's checks as setup fodder may also be handy in potentially securing a sweep late-game as well, while Primal Groudon is able to cover their own checks as a result. Good examples of this include Celebi, Giratina-O, and Altarianite Zygarde. Entry hazard removal or reflection from partners such as Arceus-Fairy, Sablenite Blissey, and Mew can aid Primal Groudon in coming in more frequently, as it can avoid entry hazard chip damage. Blissey is particularly useful, as it can provide both Wish and Heal Bell support for Primal Groudon as well, increasing its longevity immensely.

Moves V-create deals fatal damage to targets that do not resist it such as Dialga, Mega Audino, and Xerneas, letting Primal Groudon check these threats. Shore Up keeps Primal Groudon's HP high, letting it continually check threatening Pokemon such as Regigigas and Mega Diancie. It has double the PP of Morning Sun, making it preferable for longer games. Stealth Rock is also viable, as Primal Groudon forces many switches, and the move gives it something to do as Prankster Dragon-types such as Giratina and Zygarde-C switch in. Alternatively, Bolt Strike deals heavy damage to Mega Slowbro, Celesteela, Ho-Oh, and other Fire-immune Steel-types like Celesteela. When boosted by Electric Terrain, Bolt Strike is a 2HKO against Mega Slowbro. Anchor Shot traps some defensive switch-ins, such as Primordial Sea Celesteela, Mega Slowbro, and Ho-Oh, preventing them from escaping the followup move. It also threatens to trap Imposter users that are not running Shed Shell, preventing them from safely switching into or staying in against Primal Groudon. Will-O-Wisp deals useful chip damage to common switch-ins such as Giratina, Zygarde-C, and Mega Slowbro and KOes Sturdy Shedinja. Thousand Arrows may be run instead of Bolt Strike as another strong STAB move that can invalidate Ho-Oh and Celesteela as checks. Primal Groudon can set other entry hazards such as Spikes if your team already has a Stealth Rock setter, but this mandates a Magic Bounce teammate to prevent Imposters from doing the same. Set Details Intimidate can soften physical blows the first time Primal Groudon comes in, allowing it to be a better check to some physical attackers that might otherwise deal fatal damage to it, such as opposing Primal Groudon. Electric Surge powers up Bolt Strike and prevents Primal Groudon from being put to sleep. Lastly, Download is useful if Primal Groudon gets an Attack raise, but this boost is often removed or stolen by its counters via Haze or Spectral Thief. Red Orb gives Primal Groudon a far more useful defensive typing, higher physical bulk, and greater power behind its attacks. An Impish nature is preferred to bolster Primal Groudon's Defense so it can better take boosted and super effective hits, notably guaranteeing that it survives Regigigas's +1 Facade after Stealth Rock damage and giving it a good chance to avoid the 2HKO from Mega Diancie's Precipice Blades. A Careful nature allows Primal Groudon to handle Mega Diancie's Boomburst better but results in Primal Groudon being 2HKOed by Precipice Blades on the switch. Usage Tips This Primal Groudon set usually plays as a defensive pivot by forcing switches that its teammates can capitalize on. Early-game, Anchor Shot is a risk-free move to click, as the only common Pokemon that can safely avoid being trapped are Zygarde-C, Giratina, Shed Shell Imposter users, and Flash Fire Aegislash. Giratina is a fairly passive Pokemon and Aegislash cannot risk taking a possible Ground-type attack, but Primal Groudon should scout Imposter users for a possible Shed Shell, which can cause them to deplete Primal Groudon's PP if they successfully trap Primal Groudon. Most other switch-ins can easily be trapped and then removed the next turn with Bolt Strike or have Stealth Rock set up on them as they pivot out. If running Stealth Rock, it is important to scout for Magic Bounce Pokemon by using Will-O-Wisp if Primal Groudon has it or by analyzing how your opponent responds to Primal Groudon. Most teams are forced to switch the same Pokemon into Primal Groudon as it comes in, making your opponent more predictable. You can use this tendency to dictate your opponent's plays, maintain momentum, and wear their team down with entry hazard damage and double switches. Be mindful of the low PP of V-create and Bolt Strike, as after either move is used up, Primal Groudon becomes far easier to switch into for the opponent. If you need Primal Groudon to check a threatening Pokemon such as Mega Diancie, Mega Beedrill, or a Poison Heal user like Regigigas or Xerneas, play more carefully with it and ensure that its HP stays high enough to take them on. Team Options This set fits on many balance teams thanks to its ability to force predictable switches. Powerful special or mixed wallbreakers, such as Choice Specs Mega Diancie, Ash-Greninja, and Pixilate Mega Mewtwo X can threaten Primal Groudon's common checks such as Shedinja, Zygarde-C, Flash Fire Steel-types, Mega Garchomp, and Giratina, and they appreciate Primal Groudon trapping and KOing their standard defensive answers such as Soundproof Mega Slowbro and Celesteela. Primal Groudon can Imposter-proof Mega Diancie and Ash-Greninja if they do not carry a Ground-type attack, as well as Pixilate Mega Mewtwo X. Setup checks such as Prankster Zygarde-C, Prankster + Haze Registeel, and Choice Scarf Imposter users can give the team a safety net against unexpected setup Pokemon, allowing Primal Groudon to play more defensively against setup-heavy teams. RegenVest Pokemon such as Dialga and Primal Kyogre check special attackers and pivot Primal Groudon in safely with U-turn. Poison Heal users such as Xerneas, Mega Tyranitar, and Regigigas provide an additional layer of protection against status, can remove items such as Shed Shell and Leftovers with Knock Off, and spread their own status to help Primal Groudon, while Primal Groudon can check powerful wallbreakers that might force them out. If Primal Groudon is running Stealth Rock, a Magic Bounce teammate that resists V-create such as Zygarde-C or Giratina can prevent Imposters from setting up Stealth Rock against your team.

Moves Shell Smash sets Primal Groudon up to sweep the opposing team and outspeed the entire unboosted metagame. V-create deals enormous damage to targets neutral to it such as Mega Audino and Arceus, and, at +2, it can even land OHKOs on targets that resist it such as Primal Kyogre and Mega Gyarados. However, the Speed- and Defense-lowering effects leave Primal Groudon slightly more vulnerable to revenge killing from Choice Scarf and priority users. Thousand Arrows allows Primal Groudon to hit Flying-types with its STAB Ground-type move and has respectable power at +2. Alternatively, Precipice Blades has a noticeably higher damage output against bulky neutral targets such as Flash Fire Ferrothorn but cannot hit Flying-types, which may allow a daring opponent to more easily pivot around Primal Groudon with immunities. +2 Precipice Blades also is a guaranteed OHKO against both Mega Mewtwo formes, sparing Primal Groudon from having to use V-create on them. Power Trip is another option that hits Mega Slowbro, Giratina, Ho-Oh, Flash Fire Celesteela, and Flash Fire Ferrothorn hard. Fleur Cannon is the best move to complement Fire-type coverage, severely damaging physically defensive Pokemon that can take Thousand Arrows and V-create such as Giratina, Zygarde-C, and Mega Slowbro. +2 Fleur Cannon has a chance to OHKO non-Assault Vest Giratina after Stealth Rock damage. Ice Beam is viable alongside Power Trip, as it hits Dragon- and Ground-types super effectively, notably OHKOing Zygarde-C at +2 regardless of its set. However, Primal Groudon loses the ability to OHKO Giratina. Core Enforcer can allow Primal Groudon to stay in against Prankster + Haze Dragon-types such as Zygarde-C, though Primal Groudon will take severe damage from the opponent's Core Enforcer if it sets up a second time, and its ability will be suppressed, degrading V-create's power. Bonemerang is another niche option that allows Primal Groudon to break through Focus Sash and Substitute users, but it is only marginally more powerful than Thousand Arrows and has lower accuracy. Set Details It is best to use a Naughty nature so that Primal Groudon's offenses are not degraded. Most priority moves are physical, and Primal Groudon can tank a few of them if it's healthy. Primal Groudon is still able to outspeed base 140 Speed Pokemon, such as Mega Mewtwo Y, after Shell Smash followed by a Speed drop from V-create. Even with a Naughty nature, Primal Groudon is still able to survive special priority moves from full HP. Red Orb is mandatory for Primal Reversion, which increases Primal Groudon's Attack, Defense, and subpar Special Attack. Download gives Primal Groudon a boost to one of its offensive stats, which synergizes well with Shell Smash. +3 Special Attack is enough to OHKO all variants of Giratina with Fleur Cannon except Assault Vest ones, which can still be KOed after Stealth Rock damage. +3 Attack allows Primal Groudon to OHKO non-Fur Coat Giratina with Precipice Blades. Usage Tips This set operates mainly as a late-game sweeper, but against teams without reliable checks to it, it can be used as a wallbreaker or an emergency check to a physical attacker. It is a good idea to keep Primal Groudon healthy enough to take priority moves such as Fake Out + Extreme Speed from Kyurem-B. Scout for status moves such as Mega Steelix's Glare and Assault Vest users' Poison Fang so that Primal Groudon does not recklessly switch into them and get crippled. Slow pivots are great for scouting for such moves and can get Primal Groudon in safely throughout the game, and Primal Groudon's threatening presence and low list of switch-ins help to maintain momentum. Utilize entry hazard damage and make offensive double switches to wear down Primal Groudon's checks, such as Giratina and Zygarde-C. Several other sorts of checks must be dealt with as well. Prankster users can remove Primal Groudon's boosts, shut it down with Encore, or force an unfavorable trade with Destiny Bond. Focus Sash users with Spectral Thief such as Mega Mewtwo X can stop Primal Groudon's sweep as well and must be worn down before Primal Groudon can sweep. Once Primal Groudon's checks have been dealt with, pivot Primal Groudon in against something that it forces out, such as a Steel-type, for a free setup turn. Be very wary of Imposter users, because they can easily countersweep or, at best, force a two-for-one trade with your Prankster Destiny Bond user. Try not to reveal Primal Groudon's set to Imposter users before it is ready to set up, as your opponent will then be unsure of what they must preserve to check it. If you have a teammate to Imposter-proof this set, keep it alive to protect yourself from being counterswept by Imposters. Be careful of faster attackers such as priority and Choice Scarf users, which can accumulate significant chip damage on Primal Groudon after its defenses have been lowered with Shell Smash or or V-create. Do not be afraid to switch Primal Groudon out after it sets up and KOes a Pokemon to save it for later, as its bulk, especially physically, is surprisingly good and might allow it to set up again. Team Options This Primal Groudon set functions as a late-game sweeper and cleaner for both offensive and balance teams, as it can easily gain a free turn to set up. Wallbreakers are key to setting the stage for its sweep. Examples include Mega Garchomp and Choice Band Mega Mewtwo X. These Pokemon can chip Primal Groudon's standard checks such as Giratina and Zygarde-C into KO range of Fleur Cannon or Ice Beam, force trades with Prankster users, defeat Sturdy Shedinja with Moongeist Beam or Photon Geyser, and wear down Imposter users that switch in to scout their sets. Imposter-proofing this set depends entirely on the coverage. For example, Shedinja can Imposter-proof all variants and keep up pressure by using U-turn on the Imposter's forced switch. Primordial Sea Celesteela can handle variants with Precipice Blades. Hyper offensive teams may not want to lose momentum switching into an Imposter-proofer, so a Focus Sash user such as Magic Guard Mega Diancie can use Spectral Thief to steal the boosts from an Imposter that copies Primal Groudon and continue sweeping with them. Offensive entry hazard setters like Stealth Rock Mega Diancie, Mold Breaker Spikes Mega Gengar, Spikes Kartana, and Spikes Xerneas can help weaken walls and break Focus Sashes with their hazards. Kartana and Mold Breaker Gengar with Pursuit can threaten Shedinja, one of the most reliable checks to this set. Flash Fire Steel-types like Registeel can switch into -ate users and threaten to trap Imposters that switch into them, both of which are otherwise threatening to Primal Groudon. Another setup sweeper such as Shell Smash Mega Tyranitar, Shell Smash Mega Gengar, or Belly Drum Necrozma-DM can finish sweeping where Primal Groudon leaves off if it is somehow KOed. Since many teams carry just a single Prankster user, trading for it can allow the other sweeper to sweep unhindered. Mega Tyranitar and Necrozma-DM can also weaken walls like Giratina and Zygarde-C early-game so Primal Groudon can KO them later. Bulky entry hazard control Pokemon such as Defog Giratina and Pixilate Rapid Spin Mega Diancie are useful as partners to allow Primal Groudon to survive priority moves. They can also pivot Primal Groudon in with a slow U-turn and absorb status moves aimed at your offensive Pokemon. Giratina can also opt to run Z-Parting Shot to give Primal Groudon a second chance at sweeping. A way to offensively check Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Gengar is useful, as they heavily damage and outspeed Primal Groudon before it sets up. Choice Scarf Adaptability Mega Gengar and Tough Claws Mega Beedrill check these threats and can use U-turn on predicted switches. Choice Band Adaptability Mega Tyranitar can Pursuit trap Giratina, Mega Gengar, and Mega Mewtwo Y to help Primal Groudon.

Moves Rest is Primal Groudon's best method of recovering HP on its own. Passive teams often rely on poison or other residual damage to take down Primal Groudon, making this set a potential stallbreaker. Sleep Talk is used so that Primal Groudon's sleeping turns aren't a total loss. Lava Plume hits several Ground-immune targets well and spreads burns that are irritating for several common Primal Groudon checks. Precipice Blades is the primary STAB move, dealing solid damage against Pokemon such as Primal Kyogre, opposing Primal Groudon, Steel-types, and Rock-types despite the Attack stat being uninvested. Roar is used to prevent the opposing Pokemon from boosting stats. It also allows this set to phaze Geomancy Xerneas consistently. Stone Edge can also be used as a coverage move, primarily for teams that struggle against Ho-Oh, but it also has use against some other Ground-immune targets. Set Details The maximum Special Defense investment offsets Primal Groudon's lackluster natural special bulk. This investment is also helpful against key threats such as Xerneas, Primal Kyogre, and Mega Diancie. A Sassy nature is to be used with Lava Plume so that both offensive stats are left intact, as Speed isn't especially important for this set. If you're not using Precipice Blades, the preferred nature becomes Calm. An Impish nature can be used to further boost Primal Groudon's physical bulk; this can be situationally helpful against threats such as Ho-Oh, Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, and opposing Primal Groudon. Usage Tips This Primal Groudon should be played similarly to the defensive Stealth Rock set, except that it doesn't have to worry quite as much when it comes to taking damage, since it can recover with Rest. Use this set to sponge status against Pokemon that rely on Toxic alone to break Primal Groudon. Understand that a sleeping Primal Groudon is mostly useless even with Sleep Talk; this can be reduced to a single turn by Resting and then creating an opening for cleric use. Maintain enough breathing room to Rest again by burning sleep turns against Pokemon that can't deal much damage to Primal Groudon while it is immune to Toxic. Team Options A reliable defensive Stealth Rock setter such as Tyranitar is a must for teams that utilize this Primal Groudon set. A Ground-immune Pokemon such as Lugia, Mega Salamence, Latios, or Latias is also needed for proper defensive support. A support Arceus is typically paired with this set, one example being Arceus-Water. Mega Sableye pairs well with Primal Groudon, as it can handle several Primal Groudon checks, can bounce entry hazards, and fits well on defensive teams. A backup check to Primal Kyogre is greatly desired if this set forgoes running Precipice Blades, as the only thing Primal Groudon can do against it is Roar. Spikes support from Ferrothorn, Skarmory, or Klefki pairs well when this set runs Roar to rack up residual damage. A cleric is a good idea so that Primal Groudon can be awakened and spend fewer turns wasted when asleep.

Moves Rather than boosting Speed or running high investment in the Speed stat, this set uses Thunder Wave to gain the Speed advantage against opposing threats. The move also has use against Primal Groudon switch-ins such as Latios, Mega Salamence, and Rayquaza and is used to check Xerneas. Swords Dance allows Primal Groudon to deal massive damage against Pokemon such as support Arceus, Lugia, Primal Kyogre, and Pokemon that typically fall short of being OHKOed by unboosted Primal Groudon. Rock Slide is used as the coverage move, which hits most Ground-immune targets well. Combined with the paralysis induced by Thunder Wave, the flinch rate of Rock Slide makes it difficult for targets to move successfully. Precipice Blades is the strongest Ground-type STAB move available and meets important KOs against some of the aforementioned threats. Set Details EVs maximize the Attack stat and the 12 Speed EVs make Primal Groudon faster than Mega Diancie before Mega Evolution. The remaining EVs maximize mixed bulk and allow Primal Groudon to survive a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas after Stealth Rock and a +1 Double-Edge from Adamant Mega Salamence after Stealth Rock. An EV spread of 152 HP / 236 Atk / 44 SpD / 76 Spe with an Adamant nature sacrifices some Attack investment in order to outspeed uninvested Xerneas and Yveltal. This spread also lets Primal Groudon survive a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas after Stealth Rock and a +1 Double-Edge from Adamant Mega Salamence after Stealth Rock. Usage Tips This set functions less as a wincon and more as an intermediate wallbreaker, so focus on dismantling cores with Thunder Wave and +2 boosted attacks. Thunder Wave combined with Primal Groudon's bulk can be used to emergency check a variety of setup sweepers when facing offense teams. Focus on paralyzing faster defensive Pokemon first and setting up Swords Dance later. With their Speed advantage eliminated, Primal Groudon can break through several Pokemon when at +2 Attack. Team Options Since this Primal Groudon set doesn't have room for Stealth Rock, an alternate setter such as Dialga, Tyranitar, Mega Diancie, Excadrill, or Bronzong is required. An alternative setup sweeper such as Swords Dance Arceus, Geomancy Xerneas, Mega Salamence, or Rayquaza can greatly benefit from this Primal Groudon's ability to weaken their checks. Pokemon that are immune Ground and resist Water such as Latios, Latias, Mega Salamence, and Giratina-O cover Primal Groudon's most exploitable weaknesses. A secondary Xerneas check such as Ho-Oh, Klefki, or Bronzong is desired, as this Primal Groudon can be worn down and left unable to check Xerneas on its own. Zekrom is useful for threatening physically defensive Pokemon such as Arceus-Water and Lugia as well as threaten Mega Salamence and Primal Kyogre. A Healing Wish user such as Latias or Shaymin-S can give Primal Groudon a second chance to bust through the opposing team.

Moves Rock Polish offsets Primal Groudon's lackluster Speed and turns it into one of the most dangerous setup sweepers in the tier. Precipice Blades is the preferred Ground-type STAB move, as it maximizes damage output and meets several key KOs. Although it can be difficult to set up both Swords Dance and Rock Polish, Swords Dance provides Primal Groudon with the offensive power to break certain defensive threats that Rock Polish alone cannot trump. Dragon Claw hits several Primal Groudon checks such as Latios, Latias, Giratina-O, and Flygon. Stone Edge hits most Ground-immune Pokemon for high damage such as Ho-Oh, Lugia, Mega Salamence, and Yveltal. Rock Slide can be used as Rock-type coverage for its better accuracy and flinch rate. Fire Punch's low Base Power is mitigated by STAB and Desolate Land, and the move works in lieu of Rock-type coverage to take out Ground-immune Steel-types while still hitting most other Ground-immune targets hard. Set Details 252 Attack EVs with an Adamant nature maximize damage output and allow Primal Groudon to OHKO opposing Primal Groudon that don't run Defense investment, OHKO defensive Primal Kyogre with Precipice Blades at +2, and OHKO standard Mega Salamence with Stone Edge when at +1. 56 Speed EVs are used so that Primal Groudon will be faster than base 90 Choice Scarf users when at +2. The remaining EVs maximize physical bulk while still enabling Primal Groudon to survive +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas after Stealth Rock; the physical bulk is also sufficient to survive a +1 Adamant Double-Edge from Mega Salamence after Stealth Rock. An EV spread of 208 Atk / 144 SpD / 156 Spe with an Adamant nature makes +2 Primal Groudon faster than +1 252 Mega Salamence and standard +2 Xerneas. This EV spread still survives a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas after Stealth Rock. An EV spread of 248 HP / 204 Atk / 56 Spe with an Adamant nature can be used with a set that features Swords Dance for higher mixed bulk. This spread also survives a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas after Stealth Rock and a +1 Adamant Mega Salamence Double-Edge after Stealth Rock. Usage Tips Setting up Rock Polish or Swords Dance is best when forcing a switch. Setup can be accomplished without forcing a switch due to Primal Groudon's natural bulk, but this should only be done when the ensuing trade is assured to be beneficial. If using both Rock Polish and Swords Dance, set up one first on a forced switch and then boost the other stat while surviving the ensuing attack. Focus on checking opposing threats without letting this set sponge attacks so that Primal Groudon has enough bulk to set up or keep from being revenge killed. If this set is used as the wincon, focus on pressuring the opposing Pokemon that need to be damaged or eliminated in order for Primal Groudon to successfully clean. Team Options An offensive Stealth Rock setter is a mandatory partner with this set, with some examples including Deoxys-S, Dialga, Excadrill, Mega Diancie, Tyranitar, and Mega Aerodactyl. An offensive teammate with a Ground immunity such as Mega Salamence or Rayquaza is desired to offset Primal Groudon's weakness to Ground. The appropriate Arceus forme to pair with Rock Polish Primal Groudon is one that runs Swords Dance or one that runs another form of offensive set. An offensive Fairy-type such as Xerneas or Mega Diancie is desired for the immunity to Draco Meteor and ability to keep offensive Dragon- and Dark-types in check. An offensive Ghost- or Dark-type such as Mega Gengar, Darkrai, or Yveltal is effective for pressuring defensive components of certain teams.

Moves This set utilizes Primal Groudon's large Special Attack in conjunction with the Speed-boosting effects of Rock Polish to create a setup sweeper that is effective against a variety of typical Primal Groudon checks. With maximum Special Attack investment and the effects of Desolate Land, Fire Blast deals more damage than Precipice Blades on this set. Fire Blast is notable for usually OHKOing defensive Yveltal after Stealth Rock, dealing upwards of 87% against Arceus-Ground, and 2HKOing Lugia after Stealth Rock. Dragon Pulse usually OHKOes Mega Salamence after Stealth Rock, and it 2HKOes Giratina-O, Latios, and Flygon. Precipice Blades is used handle Primal Kyogre, Blissey, and Rock-types. Set Details 56 Speed EVs ensure that Primal Groudon is faster than Choice Scarf base 90 Pokemon after using Rock Polish. 252 Special Attack EVs with a Mild nature maximize the damage output of Fire Blast and Dragon Pulse. The nature is chosen as Mild so that it does not impair the damage output of Precipice Blades. 144 Special Defense EVs allow Primal Groudon to survive a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas after Stealth Rock. The remaining EVs are slotted into Attack. Usage Tips This set is only to be used for certain offense teams that appreciate its ability to beat certain otherwise solid Primal Groudon checks. Precipice Blades should be used to bluff a physical set or one that isn't highly invested in offensive stats. Setting up is best when forcing a switch against a Steel-type. While it can also be done when not forcing a switch thanks to Primal Groudon's natural bulk, this should only be done when necessary. This set is not really intended to check big threats except when absolutely necessary, so teammates should sponge attacks instead so that Primal Groudon has enough bulk to set up or keep from being revenge killed. Team Options An offensive Stealth Rock setter such as Deoxys-S, Dialga, Excadrill, Mega Diancie, Tyranitar, or Mega Aerodactyl is required, as this Primal Groudon does not have room for the move. An additional entry hazard setter, one that can lay Spikes or Toxic Spikes, is especially helpful for breaking down threats for this set. A Ground-immune teammate such as Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, or Shaymin-S helps cover Primal Groudon's weakness to Ground. Offensive Fairy-types such as Xerneas and Mega Diancie help cover Latios, and Ghost- or Dark-types such as Mega Gengar, Arceus-Ghost, Darkrai, and Yveltal help threaten the physically defensive backbones of teams.

Moves Primal Groudon can set Stealth Rock rather easily thanks to its high bulk and ability to force out a variety of Pokemon. Precipice Blades 2HKOes standard Xerneas and inflicts higher damage than Earthquake, which is important in a tier where many Pokemon are physically bulky. Lava Plume, supported by STAB and Desolate Land, deals strong damage to many Ground-immune targets, eases prediction, and can burn Pokemon such as Lugia and support Arceus formes, which makes them much easier to break in the long run. Rock Slide hits a variety of Ground-immune targets; it cannot burn like Lava Plume and runs off the Attack stat, but it OHKOes Ho-Oh. Roar phazes Xerneas and several other setup sweepers such as Mega Salamence, Swords Dance Arceus, and the rarer Calm Mind Arceus. It has other utility in being able to cause additional passive damage when the opponent switches to a Primal Groudon check. Thunder Wave is best used with Rock Slide, as the combination of moves does well against a variety of Ground-immune targets due to paralysis combined with the flinch rate of Rock Slide. Thunder Wave is also used to remove the Speed advantage of setup sweepers such as Xerneas and Mega Salamence. Similar to Roar but unable to phaze Xerneas, Dragon Tail has the benefit of smacking Latios, Latias, and Giratina-O switch-ins while still being able to phaze other setup sweepers such as Mega Salamence and Arceus formes. Toxic is worthwhile, as several Primal Groudon switch-ins such as Lugia, support Arceus, and Giratina-O cannot function properly when badly poisoned. Set Details Due to having a naturally low Special Defense, this Primal Groudon set runs maximum Special Defense investment. This special bulk is helpful against key threats such as Xerneas, Primal Kyogre, and Mega Diancie. A Sassy nature is to be used with Lava Plume so that both offensive stats are left intact, as Speed is less important. If not using Lava Plume, the preferred nature becomes Careful. An Impish nature can be used to further boost Primal Groudon's physical bulk; this can be situationally helpful against threats such as Ho-Oh, Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, and opposing Primal Groudon. Usage Tips Primal Groudon has no method of recovery and requires efficient play, especially since it is used to check several big threats such as Xerneas, Primal Kyogre, and Ho-Oh but fails to do so when damaged. Stealth Rock needs to be set early, but not at the expense of being reckless. Lava Plume is one of the most readily clicked moves here, since it covers a variety of Primal Groudon switch-ins and spreads burns. Assume that Primal Groudon is slower than the opposing base 90 Speed Pokemon, since this set runs no investment and this Speed tier often invests. While Primal Groudon checks Ho-Oh, it does not want to switch into it, especially if it isn't running an Impish nature or Rock-type coverage. Be wary of Toxic as Primal Groudon switches in, especially against Pokemon like Klefki. Team Options Pokemon such as Mega Salamence, Giratina-O, Latios, and Latias that are able to Defog and provide a Ground immunity naturally pair well with Primal Groudon. Ho-Oh is a strong partner for this defensive Stealth Rock set due to the potency of Ho-Oh balance, Ho-Oh's ability to sponge a variety of special attacks, and its Ground immunity. Other Ground-immune teammates such as Lugia and Yveltal can make good partners on a balance team. Certain Fairy-types such as Klefki, Xerneas, and Mega Diancie provide a switch-in to Primal Groudon checks such as Latios, Latias, and Giratina-O. An appropriate Arceus forme should be run with this particular Primal Groudon, such as Arceus-Water, Extreme Killer Arceus, or Swords Dance Arceus-Ground. Mega Gengar is a strong partner choice that reaps the benefits of Primal Groudon status spam via Hex. Mega Sableye is handy for bouncing Toxic back at several common Primal Groudon checks. A Toxic immunity or Steel-type in general is useful for protecting Primal Groudon from being poisoned. Aromatherapy and Heal Bell from Xerneas or Diancie are options for removing status from Primal Groudon, while Wish or Healing Wish from Shaymin-S or Latias can give Primal Groudon an additional breath in battle.

Moves Primal Groudon can serve as a setter of Stealth Rock for a variety of offense arrangements thanks to its natural bulk and offensive potency. Precipice Blades is preferred for maximum damage output and can 2HKO physically bulky Xerneas, can 2HKO maximum Defense Primal Kyogre, and can OHKO opposing Primal Groudon that don't invest in Defense. Dragon Tail smacks several common Primal Groudon switch-ins and forces them back out such as Latios, Latias, Mega Salamence, Giratina-O, and support Arceus. Fire Punch cannot phaze or hit the above threats quite as hard, but it is more consistent than Dragon Tail, eases prediction, and is the only option on this set that can destroy Skarmory and Bronzong. Fire Punch also has the benefit of being almost as strong as Precipice Blades versus neutral targets while being accurate. Stone Edge OHKOes Ho-Oh and deals high damage to most other Ground-immune Pokemon. Rock Tomb can still OHKO Ho-Oh and has the benefit of lowering the Speed of opposing Pokemon by one stage, which is very useful against certain switch-ins such as Mega Salamence and Latios. Set Details 76 Speed EVs beat everything up to uninvested Xerneas and Yveltal. 152 HP EVs with 44 Special Defense EVs maximize the amount of HP Primal Groudon can run with the remaining EVs while still surviving a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas after Stealth Rock. This also is enough to survive a +1 Double-Edge from Adamant Mega Salamence after Stealth Rock. The remaining EVs are slotted to Attack: 236 Attack EVs with an Adamant nature can let Primal Groudon 2HKO physically bulky Xerneas, 2HKO maximum Defense Primal Kyogre, and OHKO opposing Primal Groudon that don't invest in Defense. An EV spread of 244 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Spe with an Adamant nature sacrifices some Speed investment while still retaining Attack in order to raise the HP stat enough to where it still survives a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas but has the benefit of higher physical bulk. Usage Tips Lack of recovery, use as a setter of Stealth Rock, and use as a check to Pokemon such as Xerneas and Primal Kyogre require that Primal Groudon be played with minimal risk. Stealth Rock is best set when Primal Groudon forces a switch. Dragon Tail should be used when the opponent attempts to bring in a Defogger or thinks they have forced a switch and will set up. If you're using Fire Punch, it is generally a safe option when you are not sure what Pokemon the opponent will switch to, as it deals good damage against a variety of targets. By using Rock Tomb on the opponent's switch, Pokemon such as Latios can now be dispatched by Primal Groudon before they have a chance to attack. Team Options Offensive Pokemon with a Ground immunity such as Mega Salamence, Latios, Giratina-O, and Rayquaza synergize well with this Primal Groudon set. Ho-Oh works well with this set on a bulky offense team and covers some of Primal Groudon's weaknesses to special attacks and Ground-type attacks. The appropriate Arceus forme to pair with this Primal Groudon is one that utilizes Swords Dance or another offensive technique. A Fairy-type such as Xerneas, Mega Diancie, or Klefki is desired in order to check offensive Dragon-types that threaten Primal Groudon. An offensive Ghost- or Dark-type such as Mega Gengar, Darkrai, or Yveltal can threaten key components of balanced or stall teams. Lastly, Shaymin-S can provide a Ground immunity and soft check a variety of Pokemon that threaten Primal Groudon.

Moves This Primal Groudon set functions as both an entry hazard setter and a stallbreaker by offsetting its low natural Speed with high investment. Swords Dance doubles Primal Groudon's Attack, allowing it to 2HKO most Pokemon in the tier. Precipice Blades is the best STAB move for this set, as it maximizes damage output. The remaining slot is used for Rock-type coverage to hit Ground-immune targets. Stone Edge is preferred for its higher power. Rock Slide can also be used due to being slightly more consistent and this Primal Groudon being fast enough to make use of the flinch effects. Set Details 196 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature are sufficient to outspeed fully invested base 90 Speed Pokemon and below. 144 Special Defense EVs are used in order to survive a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas after Stealth Rock. The remaining EVs are slotted into the Attack stat. An EV spread of 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe with a Jolly nature maximizes Primal Groudon's Speed and runs more Attack at the cost of not meeting the +2 Xerneas benchmark. Usage Tips This set is best used on balance or bulky offense teams that need to combine a Stealth Rock setter and wallbreaker into one teamslot. Set up Stealth Rock when forcing a switch, and set it early. This Primal Groudon can also bluff a support set or an offensive Stealth Rock set so long as it hasn't revealed Swords Dance yet. Set up Swords Dance against an incoming Defog Arceus or if you manage to force a switch while Stealth Rock is up. If a Pokemon that can successfully Defog against this set even when it is boosted is going to switch in, double switch to a Pokemon that won't allow it to Defog. In order to function as a check to Pokemon such as Geomancy Xerneas, this Primal Groudon must remain healthy. Team Options An alternative setup sweeper such as Swords Dance Arceus, Geomancy Xerneas, or Mega Salamence pairs well with this set and serves to increase a team's ability to strip down opposing defensive cores. Ground-immune or Water-resistant teammates such as Latios, Latias, Mega Salamence, and Giratina-O provide Primal Groudon with needed support against common Ground-type attacks and against Primal Kyogre. Fairy-types such as Xerneas, Klefki, and Mega Diancie are partners that are able to check Dragon-types that threaten Primal Groudon. A Steel-type such as Jirachi or Ferrothorn is able to simultaneously serve as a check to Latios and Xerneas. Jirachi can support Primal Groudon with Wish, while Ferrothorn benefits from this Primal Groudon's ability to take down anti-entry hazard cores employed by passive teams. Ferrothorn also supports Primal Groudon by being able to handle Primal Kyogre well. Offensive Ghost- or Dark-types such as Mega Gengar, Giratina-O, Darkrai, and Yveltal can check certain offensive Psychic-types and also stallbreak well. A secondary Xerneas check such as Ho-Oh, Klefki, or Bronzong is also desired, as this Primal Groudon doesn't have much room for taking damage without losing its ability to check Xerneas.

Moves Stealth Rock allows Primal Groudon to support itself and its teammates by applying chip damage to any foe that switches in. Stealth Rock is especially easy to set up when combined with Primal Groudon's ability to force switches against almost any Pokemon. Precipice Blades is Primal Groudon's primary STAB move and lets it maintain a great offensive presence, 2HKOing Xerneas and Arceus. Earthquake can be used as a more accurate alternative to Precipice Blades at the cost of power; however, the drop in power is often very noticeable, notably not being able to 2HKO Xerneas and Arceus. Lava Plume is Primal Groudon's other STAB move and has great power under Desolate Land, and when used in tandem with a 30% burn chance, it lets Primal Groudon cripple a plethora of physical attackers by burning them as well as weaken down walls. Stone Edge can be used over Lava Plume to hit Ho-Oh, mostly because non-Rock-type coverage variants are forced out by Ho-Oh. However, just keep in mind this is only recommended if you are running this set on a Ho-Oh-weak team. Roar is used to phaze setup sweepers like Xerneas, Mega Rayquaza, and Arceus, and it helps rack up residual damage with Stealth Rock. Thunder Wave can be used over Roar to cripple fast threats, which help Primal Groudon and its teammates deal with threatening wallbreakers. Dragon Tail can be used over Roar as well to phaze Ground-immune Dragon-types like Mega Rayquaza and Giratina-O and can specifically hit Mega Rayquaza for a lot of damage while phazing it. However, one disadvantage of running Dragon Tail over Roar is the inability to phaze Xerneas, which is one of AG's most prevalent setup sweepers, and even if Primal Groudon is running Thunder Wave, it can at least lower Xerneas's Speed. Set Details The given EVs let Primal Groudon survive a Focus Blast from a +2 Xerneas, even after taking chip damage from Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes. If you're running Stone Edge on Primal Groudon, use an Impish nature instead. In addition to that, the EVs allow Primal Groudon to avoid the 2HKO from Primal Kyogre's Ice Beam, Arceus-Rock's Judgment, and Giratina-O's Shadow Force. A Relaxed nature lets Primal Groudon survive an Earthquake from +2 Arceus and a Precipice Blades from opposing support Primal Groudon. A Careful nature with an EV spread of 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD could be used instead to let Primal Groudon face Xerneas and Primal Kyogre more easily but makes it harder for Primal Groudon to take physical attacks. Usage Tips Use Primal Groudon to support its teammates by setting up Stealth Rock and crippling foes with Thunder Wave; this is the main focus of the set. Don't rely solely on Primal Groudon to set up Stealth Rock and paralyze foes, as its vulnerability to all forms of entry hazards and ability to get pressured by Arceus make it difficult to set up Stealth Rock repeatedly. Try to spam Lava Plume because of its incredible chance of burning foes. Be wary of using Primal Groudon's Ground-type STAB move if the opponent still has a Ground-immune Pokemon on their team, as they can switch it in on Primal Groudon and attempt to capitalize off of it. Set up Stealth Rock early-game for as much residual damage on the opponent's team throughout the match. Use Primal Groudon as a phazer to setup sweepers like Mega Rayquaza, Arceus, and Xerneas. Try to avoid a situation where Primal Kyogre can switch in on Primal Groudon to allow the harsh sun to stay up and to avoid Primal Groudon getting forced out, giving Primal Kyogre a free KO; the same applies for Mega Rayquaza coming in on Primal Groudon and making it setup bait. Team Options Primal Groudon doesn't like facing Ground-immune Dragon-types like Mega Rayquaza and Giratina-O, with the latter being able to remove Primal Groudon's Stealth Rock with Defog; Fairy-types like Xerneas, Mega Diancie, and Arceus-Fairy can be used to take care of them, and they appreciate Primal Groudon's ability to take care of the Steel-types that threaten them. Klefki can be a decent teammate because it can set up Spikes to complete a Stealth Rock + Spikes entry hazard setting core to further help cripple the foes that Primal Groudon cripples with its moves and Stealth Rock, and it additionally can take care of most of Primal Groudon's checks with Swagger + Foul Play. Arceus-Ground is also very threatening because a +1 Judgment OHKOes Primal Groudon and a +2 Earthquake 2HKOes it; Skarmory, Lugia, and Mega Rayquaza can check it. Aromatherapy and Heal Bell support from Xerneas, Blissey, Mega Diancie, and Chansey is useful to help Primal Groudon get rid of status ailments. Ho-Oh checks like Mega Diancie, Arceus-Rock, and Arceus-Water are good because Ho-Oh threatens Primal Groudon with Earthquake and it can't do anything in return. Entry hazard removers like Giratina-O and Arceus-Fairy get rid of the entry hazards that severely weaken Primal Groudon. Pokemon that can take down support Arceus formes, such as Ho-Oh, are good, considering that a lot of support Arceus formes are weak to Ho-Oh's STAB and coverage moves. Pokemon that benefit from Stealth Rock support like Xerneas, Mega Rayquaza, and Arceus are good teammates because it helps them turn would-be 2HKOs into OHKOs.

Moves Earthquake is Groudon's main STAB move and allows it to dent most neutral targets, even without Attack investment, and is much more reliable than Precipice Blades on a support set. Stealth Rock gives Groudon the ability to indirectly weaken foes for it or its teammates to finish off. Thunder Wave lets Groudon cripple fast wallbreakers like Darkrai and Ho-Oh on the switch. Rock Tomb can be used over Thunder Wave to deal decent damage to Ho-Oh and still act as a form of speed control. Dragon Tail is Groudon's main phazing move because it can damage Mega Rayquaza and isn't stopped by taunt. Roar is an alternative phazing move to Dragon Tail that hits behind Substitute, evades Protect, and hits Fairy-types. Set Details 248 HP and Defense EVs let Groudon act as a bulky tank that can survive powerful physical attacks from Mega Rayquaza, Arceus, and Primal Groudon. 12 Speed EVs let Groudon outspeed Mega Diancie before or on the turn that it Mega Evolves. Lum Berry lets Groudon check status spreaders like Klefki and Darkrai temporarily. Usage Tips Utilize defensive Groudon as a lead to efficiently set up Stealth Rock and cripple any non-Ground-type foes with Thunder Wave. Use this set to capitalize on Swagger + Foul Play Klefki and OHKO it in return or to check sleep inducers like Darkrai and surprise them with an attack. Don't try to switch Groudon in on powerful special attackers like Xerneas due to its lack of special bulk that leaves it 2HKOed or OHKOed often. Be wary of Flying-types like Mega Rayquaza and Lugia because they can often take advantage of Groudon's lack of coverage. Spam Thunder Wave when the Ground-types on the opponent's team are gone to support teammates by crippling fast foes. Team Options Regular Groudon has trouble dealing with Water-types due to the lack of Desolate Land, so teammates like Mega Rayquaza are almost mandatory. Special walls like Clefable are good teammates because they can cover Groudon's low Special Defense and provide Wish support to give Groudon a form of recovery. Pokemon that appreciate entry hazard support to get easier KOs like Mega Rayquaza and Arceus are good teammates. Fairy-type checks like Mega Gengar, Ho-Oh, and Arceus-Poison are great for taking care of Xerneas. Options for dealing with Primal Kyogre such as Primal Groudon are recommended, as this set struggles immensely with Primal Kyogre, contrary to the other listed sets.

Moves Swords Dance gives Primal Groudon a way to boost its Attack to monstrous levels, letting it break through many bulky walls like Lugia. Thunder Wave is a great utility move that allows Primal Groudon to cripple and set up on a plethora of faster foes like Xerneas, Lugia, and Arceus-Water. Precipice Blades is Primal Groudon's main STAB move because it gives it the ability to OHKO many neutrally effected foes after one Swords Dance. Rock Slide lets Primal Groudon hit Ground-immune foes like Lugia, Ho-Oh, and Yveltal; paraflinch foes when used in tandem with Thunder Wave; and it is more accurate than Stone Edge at the cost of less power. Fire Punch can be used as a secondary STAB move, but the lack of a way to reliably hit Flying-types is quite noticeable when Primal Groudon uses dual STAB over Precipice Blades + Rock Slide. Set Details Maximum HP EVs and 48 Special Defense EVs allow Primal Groudon to survive a Focus Blast from a +2 Xerneas after Stealth Rock Damage. 12 Speed EVs allow Primal Groudon to outspeed maximum Speed Diancie before it Mega Evolves. 196 Attack EVs and an Adamant nature let Primal Groudon maximize its power while maintaining enough bulk to survive moves from threatening foes. Usage Tips Use Primal Groudon early-game to paralyze as many foes as possible to make it easier to keep Primal Groudon's Swords Dance boosts for longer periods of time later on in the match and to break through walls for teammates to finish off later. Try to set up on more passive Fairy- and Steel-types like Clefable and Ferrothorn to take minimal damage while completing the set up. Setting up will likely force the passive foes out, so try to paralyze the switch-in. Don't spam Thunder Wave too often until all opposing Ground-types are eliminated, as the lack of momentum can be detrimental later on in the match. Try to avoid setting up on Toxic users like Arceus-Water if possible; however, this may be required to remove Arceus-Water from the match. Primal Groudon should be played offensively so Pokemon like Mega Rayquaza can't freely pivot into it and ruin its sweep. Team Options Stealth Rock setters like Dialga and Deoxys-S are good teammates for weakening foes to give Primal Groudon more KOs against bulkier Pokemon like Arceus-Water and Lugia. Other setup sweepers like Geomancy Xerneas, Swords Dance Mega Rayquaza, and Extreme Killer Arceus can potentially sweep after Primal Groudon cripples, weakens, or KOes their checks. Primal Groudon gets checked by Dragon-types and Ho-Oh easily if it runs Fire Punch, so teammates like Klefki, Mega Diancie, and Arceus-Rock are great teammates to deal with them. Healing Wish users like Jirachi and Latias are good to fully heal Primal Groudon to let it have a chance at sweeping again. Pokemon that appreciate support Arceus formes being gone like Mega Rayquaza and Extreme Killer Arceus are good teammates for this set as well. Mega Gengar is a good teammate for removing Skarmory for non-Fire Punch variants.

Moves Rock Polish helps Primal Groudon outspeed the entire neutral metagame after one boost, which makes it a deadly late-game sweeper. Precipice Blades is Primal Groudon's main STAB move and allows it to hit opposing Primal Groudon, Mega Gengar, and Arceus-Poison super effectively and deal a lot of damage to threatening foes like Arceus. Dragon Claw can be used to let Primal Groudon 2HKO the Dragon-types that normally wall it such as Giratina-O and Mega Rayquaza. Swords Dance can be used to give Primal Groudon a double dance set to let it perform as an insanely fast and strong attacker, allowing it to deal with bulkier threats like Lugia and Arceus-Water more reliably. Stone Edge lets Primal Groudon hit Flying-types like Ho-Oh and Yveltal super effectively and is optimal with Swords Dance because it can easily KO the aforementioned Lugia. Fire Punch can be used over Stone Edge to let Primal Groudon hit Steel-types like Skarmory and Ferrothorn super effectively, provides great neutral coverage in general, and is more reliable than Precipice Blades in the sun; however, it gives Primal Groudon the burden of not being able to hit Flying-types as reliably. Set Details Maximum Attack EVs and an Adamant nature grant Primal Groudon an outrageous offensive presence. 56 Speed EVs guarantee that Primal Groudon outspeeds Choice Scarf base 90 Speed Pokemon like Dialga, Kyogre, and Zekrom after a Rock Polish boost. 104 HP EVs and 96 Special Defense EVs let Primal Groudon survive a +2 Focus Blast from Xerneas. 124 Speed EVs can be used instead to let Primal Groudon outspeed faster Choice Scarf users like Jirachi and Genesect, but it sacrifices either Primal Groudon's ability to check Geomancy Xerneas or a substantial amount of damage. Usage Tips Use Primal Groudon to force out Pokemon like Xerneas and set up Rock Polish (and Swords Dance if you're running it) on said switches. Try to get rid of or weaken opposing Mega Rayquaza and Giratina-O before sending Primal Groudon in to sweep. Swords Dance can be a good option for pressuring support Defoggers like Arceus-Water but is less reliable against Mega Rayquaza. Non-Swords Dance variants need support Arceus formes and other physically bulky teammates gone to successfully sweep. Keep Primal Groudon healthy if it's needed for checking Fairy-types. Team Options Primal Groudon pairs well with offensive Pokemon like Mega Gengar, Yveltal, another Primal Groudon, and Arceus-Water to take care of Lugia, defensive Primal Kyogre, and Ground Arceus. Mega Gengar is an especially useful teammate for variants of this set that lack Fire Punch to give your team a way of trapping and KOing support Arceus formes and Skarmory. Darkrai is a good teammate because it can outspeed and put all of Primal Groudon's checks to sleep to help it set up later in the match. Powerful wallbreakers like Mega Rayquaza and Ho-Oh can weaken walls like Lugia to help Primal Groudon wear down the opposing team easily. Stealth Rock support from Pokemon like Arceus-Fairy and Deoxys-S is important to chip at the health of Flying-type foes and break Focus Sashes on common users like Smeargle, as the former can reliably check Mega Rayquaza and the latter can easily fit onto most offensive archetypes.

Moves Stealth Rock allows Primal Groudon to support itself and its teammates by turning more 2HKOs into OHKOs due to chip damage, and it is easy to set up thanks to Primal Groudon's ability to force foes out with its offensive pressure. Precipice Blades is Primal Groudon's main STAB move, as it lets it 2HKO most of the AG metagame. Dragon Tail lets Primal Groudon phaze most setup sweepers; it is particularly useful against Mega Rayquaza due to its Dragon weakness and decent power. However, it leaves Primal Groudon without a way to phaze Geomancy Xerneas due to its immunity to Dragon-type moves. Fire Punch can be used over Dragon Tail to give Primal Groudon a strong, sun-boosted secondary STAB move, letting it easily damage a vast majority of the metagame neutrally, as well as being able to OHKO Skarmory, Ferrothorn, and Bronzong. Stone Edge lets Primal Groudon hit threatening Flying-types like Yveltal, Lugia, and Ho-Oh super effectively. Rock Tomb can be used over Stone Edge to give Primal Groudon a more accurate Rock-type move, but the power drop is quite noticeable; however, it still lets Primal Groudon OHKO Ho-Oh and has the benefit of lowering the foe's Speed. Set Details 76 Speed EVs let Primal Groudon outspeed every Pokemon up to uninvested Xerneas and Yveltal. 152 HP EVs and 44 Special Defense EVs let Primal Groudon survive a +2 Focus Blast from Geomancy Xerneas after Stealth Rock and an Earthquake from +1 Mega Rayquaza. 236 Attack EVs and an Adamant nature let Primal Groudon 3HKO physically defensive Xerneas and 2HKO opposing Primal Groudon. Usage Tips Play Primal Groudon with minimal risk if it needs to perform both as a Geomancy Xerneas check and as a Stealth Rock setter reliably. Try to set up Stealth Rock early-game to have as much of an effect throughout the match as possible, or when Primal Groudon is forcing a switch. Use Dragon Tail when you predict that the opponent is trying to bring in an entry hazard clearer or a foe is trying to set up. If you're running Fire Punch on Primal Groudon instead, it's safe to use the move when you aren't sure what Pokemon is going to be brought in because of the decent damage it deals after the sun and STAB boosts. If you can predict that a faster foe is switching in, try to use Rock Tomb because it can cause normally threatening Pokemon to switch back out or get KOed. Team Options Offensive Ground-immune Pokemon like Mega Rayquaza and Giratina-O are good teammates for switching in on opposing Ground-types like Primal Groudon. Ho-Oh helps with covering some of Primal Groudon's weaknesses to special attacks and Ground-type moves. Fairy-types like Xerneas and Mega Diancie are helpful for taking care of the Dragon-types that threaten Primal Groudon, like Arceus-Dragon and Mega Rayquaza. Ghost- and Dark-types like Mega Gengar, Darkrai, and Yveltal are useful for threatening stall and balance teams, which Primal Groudon otherwise struggles with. All of the aforementioned teammates appreciate Stealth Rock support from Primal Groudon in return. A more reliable Xerneas check is recommended due to Primal Groudon being unable to do so after being whittled down by other attacks.

Moves V-create is an incredibly powerful STAB move but comes at the cost of a Defense, Special Defense, and Speed drop; however, the OHKO potential is usually worth it. Sacred Fire is a good alternative option because it does not lower Primal Groudon's stats and can burn the foe; this residual damage is very useful against Giratina and Mega Slowbro, whose Poison Heal sets are particularly crippled if their Toxic Orb has not yet been activated. Thousand Arrows has neutral coverage on the whole metagame, and it is a more spammable move than V-create. Precipice Blades is an alternative option for more damage, and it also can be used to better deal with Imposter users because one's own Flying-types do not have to worry about the Smack Down effect that is a component of Thousand Arrows. U-turn can be used to gain momentum and slowly wear down Primal Groudon's counters. Synthesis is a recovery move that benefits greatly from Desolate Land, enabling Groudon to heal 2/3 of its HP, at the cost of having only 8 PP. Stealth Rock and other support moves can be run effectively in Primal Groudon's last moveslot. Set Details Holding Red Orb is currently the only way to access Primal Groudon due to Primal Groudon's ban. 252 Attack EVs and a boosting nature make Primal Groudon hit as hard and possible, and maximum HP investment makes Primal Groudon as bulky as possible, while 8 Speed EVs allow it to outspeed Pokemon of the same base Speed with 0 or 4 Speed EVs. Download can boost Groudon's Attack once before Red Orb triggers; however, Primal Groudon must be switched into a Pokemon whose Special Defense is higher than its Defense, or else Download will provide a useless Special Attack boost. Intimidate is an alternative that can be used to force out fast physical attackers like Mega Mewtwo X. Primal Groudon's ability after Primal Reversion is Desolate Land, which provides a boost to Fire-type moves and a Water immunity. Usage Tips V-create should be used carefully because it has few PP and Groudon is often forced to switch after using it as a result of the stat drops. Thousand Arrows is Primal Groudon's primary means of attacking, and zero relevant Pokemon resist it thanks to its inherent Smack Down effect. U-turn is highly useful, as momentum and scouting are extremely important elements of Balanced Hackmons, and U-turn provides both. Burns from Sacred Fire help Primal Groudon wear down its checks and counters, like Mega Slowbro, faster. Stealth Rock is ideally used on the switch, but be careful of Magic Bounce from random defensive Pokemon. Primal Groudon generally can safely switch into passive walls such as Registeel and Regirock. If possible, try to scout the foe's abilities first, as Levitate and Flash Fire, for instance, can be devastating to Primal Groudon under certain circumstances. Team Options Mega Rayquaza is an excellent partner for Primal Groudon, as they can beat each other's counters. Mega Rayquaza can eliminate Giratina and Mega Slowbro, while Primal Groudon can significantly damage Steel-types and Fur Coat Chansey, both of which inconvenience Mega Rayquaza. Mega Gengar beats both of Primal Groudon's main counters, Mega Slowbro and Giratina; however, it is not a great switch-in due to its low bulk. It is highly recommended you run a counter to Primal Groudon on your team, such as Mega Slowbro or Giratina, so that Imposter users cannot exploit your set.

Moves Thousand Arrows is the best STAB option and pressures frail Pokemon. Thousand Waves is an alternative STAB option that can trap the foe, but it cannot hit Flying-type Pokemon. U-turn gains momentum, and it can slowly wear down Groudon's switch-ins. Reliable recovery is essential to all walls and other defensive Pokemon in Balanced Hackmons, so make sure you run Recover or one of its clones. Stealth Rock and other team support moves can be run effectively in Groudon's last moveslot. Leech Seed can siphon HP from the foe (a function that is particularly useful against Imposter Chansey, which has a high HP stat) and KO Sturdy Shedinja. Set Details The given EV spread makes Groudon as physically bulky as possible in order to minimize damage from moves such as Mega Mewtwo X's V-create. Safety Goggles protects Groudon from Spore and other powder moves and, less importantly, Hail. Toxic Orb is used to trigger Poison Heal, which gives Groudon additional recovery and turns Groudon into a means of blocking status. Usage Tips Groudon is an excellent counter to Tyranitar, Regigigas, and Mega Mewtwo X. These Pokemon frequently trouble Registeel + Giratina cores, making Groudon a good supplemental option. While unlikely, it is possible for fast special attackers like Mega Mewtwo Y to carry Water- or Ice-type coverage, which may be able to beat Groudon, so scouting is recommended if possible. Poison Heal is preferred for countering Tyranitar and Regigigas because these sweepers often carry Knock Off and status-inflicting moves such as Sacred Fire and Spore, neither of which matters much provided that Toxic Orb has already been activated, so it is important to get Poison Heal Groudon a safe switch so that it can be badly poisoned. Team Options Giratina can switch into highly threatening Water- and Grass-type attacks for Groudon. Gengar can check Mega Slowbro and Giratina. Chansey can deal with several of the strong specially attacking threats that can threaten defensive Groudon sets. Chansey's Imposter set is also very helpful for scouting for coverage moves that might threaten Groudon, such as the aforementioned uncommon Water- and Ice-type moves from Mega Mewtwo Y. Registeel is a good counter to Pokemon with -ate abilities, which can easily threaten Groudon with Boomburst.

戰術分析
Groudon is quite a good physical wall. With the given EVs, it can take powerful physical hits such as a +2 Outrage from Garchomp, a +2 Dragon Claw from Rayquaza, a +2 Close Combat from Lucario and Terrakion, and repeated Outrages from Zekrom, and deal with them easily with either Earthquake or Stone Edge, depending on what is appropriate. Groudon also isn't setup bait either, thanks to its base 150 Attack stat and Dragon Tail, making it a good defensive back up for stall and balanced teams alike. Earthquake provides STAB, and allows Groudon to take a decent chunk out of anything that doesn't resist it. Stone Edge is mainly there for Rayquaza and Ho-Oh, OHKOing the former after Stealth Rock damage and one turn of Life Orb recoil, and always OHKOing the latter. Fire Blast is also an option to hit other Groudon and Gliscor harder while also busting up Ferrothorn and Skarmory. Stealth Rock is Groudon's preferred support option as it is one of the few viable users of the move in Ubers, and Groudon doesn't have any other notable supporting moves to replace it with. However, Fire Blast should only be used if Groudon also runs Dragon Tail and if the team has reliable ways around Ho-Oh. Dragon Tail provides Groudon with the ability to phaze while also nailing Giratina-O, Rayquaza, Zekrom, and Palkia for decent damage. Thunder Wave and Toxic can also be used to cripple Lugia switch-ins and to provide general team support. The given EVs provide Groudon with the best possible physical defense, but if you would prefer to have Groudon be able to survive more special attacks, an EV spread of 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 SpD with a Careful nature is an option. This spread allows Groudon to take 2 Spacial Rends from Choice Scarf Palkia and live to tell the tale, and it also makes it capable of taking a Draco Meteor from Mixed Zekrom more effectively. Not even an unboosted Seed Flare from Shaymin-S can OHKO a specially defensive Groudon. Groudon will also still have enough Defense to survive a Life Orb-boosted Outrage from Rayquaza after it has used Dragon Dance once. Overheat and Fire Punch are two other Fire-type attacks Groudon can consider using on this set. Overheat does more damage than Fire Blast, but the drop in Special Attack that comes after using it will make it easier to stall out. Fire Punch runs off of Groudon's higher Attack stat and is guaranteed to OHKO a specially defensive Ferrothorn, but it isn't of much help against Gliscor, Skarmory, or other Groudon. This set is more troubled by Shaymin-S, Wobbuffet, and Kyogre than Groudon's other sets; they can switch in and proceed to trap Groudon with Shadow Tag (in Wobbuffet's case), or OHKO it with a powerful STAB attack. Forretress can help against Wobbuffet by setting up Toxic Spikes, which will limit the number of times it can come in. Zekrom can handle Shaymin-S and defensive variants of Kyogre easily with Bolt Strike, while Palkia can come in on offensive Kyogre variants and 2HKO with Thunder. Blissey is also a good teammate in general, as it can sponge the inevitable special attacks aimed at Groudon's hide with its vast rolls of pink fat.

戰術分析
This is one of Groudon's more versatile sets, for it can both sweep and support the rest of the team. This set also lets it beat some of its counters. When first bringing Groudon in early game, you should usually use Thunder Wave. Generally, most things that switch into Groudon, such as Lugia, Shaymin-S, Kyogre, and Arceus-Grass, are neither Ground-types nor very slow, and therefore loathe paralysis. Late game, when a sufficient amount of your foe's team is paralyzed, Groudon can waltz right back in and set up a Swords Dance on something that doesn't threaten it, and proceed to sweep. Even Lugia will be taken down by a boosted Stone Edge after Stealth Rock damage has been taken into account, and it should hopefully be paralyzed and therefore slower than Groudon so it cannot use Roost to negate its weakness to Rock-type attacks. The given EVs look complicated but are actually very straightforward. 200 HP EVs afford Groudon the ability to take more hits while rounding down residual damage incurred from poison or Spikes. 200 Attack EVs usually guarantee that Lugia will be felled by a +2 Stone Edge after Stealth Rock damage. The rest of the EVs go to Defense for durability. For example, this Groudon set is still capable of surviving a +1 Outrage from a Rayquaza toting Life Orb. This set generally likes teammates that benefit from the paralysis it spreads, as well as those that appreciate having Lugia out of the way. Mixed Dialga, in additional to loving paralysis support, can easily destroy Giratina-O and Skarmory, two things that can take on this set. Choice Specs Kyogre also loves having Arceus-Grass paralyzed so that it cannot Recover before the bloated blue whale defeats it with Ice Beam. Kyogre is also a wonderful counter for Cresselia, another Pokemon that gives this set trouble. Most other slow yet strong Pokemon such as Giratina-O, Reshiram, and Zekrom, will cherish the paralysis support Groudon provides as well.

When equipped with a Choice Band, Groudon reaches a titanic 657 Attack stat, allowing it to OHKO or 2HKO pretty much everything in the game thanks to its great type coverage. Earthquake is extremely powerful, and allows Groudon to OHKO even Kyogre after Stealth Rock damage. Dragon Claw destroys Giratina-O and Rayquaza switch-ins, and is a nice move to use when you have no idea what's coming in due to the great neutral coverage Dragon-type attacks possess. Stone Edge 2HKOes Lugia, and OHKOes Ho-Oh and Shaymin-S. Fire Punch gains pseudo-STAB courtesy of Drought, which makes it a very powerful attack capable of OHKOing Ferrothorn and 2HKOing Skarmory, Bronzong, and Arceus-Grass. Shadow Claw is also an option as it is Groudon's best attack against Cresselia, but even then it probably won't 2HKO the celestial duck. Generally, Groudon should open up with one of its coverage moves as the first strike. Your opponent will generally switch in something that is immune to or resists Earthquake, such as Lugia, Arceus-Grass, Giratina-O or Skarmory, so something like throwing out a simple Stone Edge can gash them badly, making them easier for Groudon to break through if they try to come back in. It is a bad idea to mindlessly spam Earthquake should your opponent still have Pokemon with immunities to Ground-type attacks, otherwise Groudon risks becoming setup bait. Generally, this set will appreciate the same teammates as the Rock Polish set, but paralysis support is also recommended to use alongside this set to make up for the low Speed. Lugia, Dialga, Kyogre, Arceus-Grass, and Ferrothorn can all make good use of Thunder Wave to slow down your opponent's team, paving the way for a Groudon sweep. Jirachi also gets special mention as its Body Slam can paralyze Ground-types such as Garchomp and enemy Groudon.

Groudon's enormous Attack and middling Speed stats allow it to capitalize on Rock Polish quite effectively. After one use, Groudon reaches 520 Speed, enough to outrun anything slower than Choice Scarf Terrakion. From there, Groudon can sweep pretty easily with its mighty STAB Earthquake. Dragon Claw enables Groudon to hit the Dragon-types that are immune to Earthquake, such as Latias, Latios, Rayquaza, and Giratina-O, while having a much higher chance of OHKOing the likes of Palkia and Garchomp. Stone Edge's main purpose is to 2HKO Lugia, but it is useful for hitting Flying-types in general, such as Ho-Oh. Overheat, however, provides completely unresisted coverage, and easily OHKOes Skarmory and Ferrothorn while 2HKOing Bronzong. It also cooks bulky Grass-types such as Arceus-Grass to a delicious crisp. Swords Dance is also an option over Dragon Claw. Groudon has excellent two-move coverage in Earthquake and Stone Edge, so it can use Swords Dance to increase its already great Attack stat to a jaw-dropping 872, letting it OHKO pretty much everything that doesn't resist its attacks. Swords Dance also lets Groudon break through stall teams more easily, but it can be difficult to get in both a Swords Dance and a Rock Polish without assistance from Wobbuffet or dual screens. The EVs give Groudon as much power as possible while giving Groudon enough Speed to hit the magic number of 520 after a Rock Polish. The remaining EVs are placed in HP to provide some extra bulk. An Adamant nature is used to make the most out of Groudon's beefy Attack stat. However, a Jolly nature with an EV spread of 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spe can be used to outrun certain Pokemon that could otherwise revenge kill Groudon, such as Choice Scarf Shaymin-S. Be warned, however, that using Jolly will cost Groudon a significant amount of power. The main Pokemon Groudon will have trouble breaking past are Giratina, Lugia, Skarmory, and Arceus-Grass. Giratina can handle all of Groudon's attacks without any problems whatsoever, and cripple it with Will-O-Wisp. Lugia is weak to Stone Edge, and will lose if Groudon is packing Swords Dance as well, but a miss can allow Lugia time to use Toxic. Skarmory can handle all of Groudon's attacks except for the occasional Overheat, and either use Toxic, or set up Spikes. Arceus-Grass is bulky enough to survive an Overheat from Groudon, and doesn't care about any of its other moves. Groudon will be forced to switch out lest it feels like being OHKOed by STAB Judgment from Arceus-Grass. Defensive Kyogre, Wobbuffet, and Giratina-O also pose a threat to Groudon, as they can handle one hit from the Continent Pokemon and OHKO back with Surf, Counter, or Draco Meteor, respectively. Finally, Choice Scarf Shaymin-S can also outspeed Groudon unless it is Jolly, and OHKO with Seed Flare. Zekrom is an excellent teammate for Rock Polish Groudon. Lugia, Skarmory, and Kyogre are all dealt with by a quick Bolt Strike while Giratina and Giratina-O get crushed by a mighty Draco Meteor. Zekrom also resists Shaymin-S's Seed Flare, and is capable of OHKOing it with Bolt Strike. Palkia is notable for being able to switch in on Kyogre more easily, but it fares worse against Lugia than Zekrom does. Ho-Oh benefits from the sunlight Groudon provides and easily wrecks Arceus-Grass, Shaymin-S, and Skarmory with its powerful STAB Sacred Fire. Heatran can also take down Arceus-Grass, Skarmory, and Shaymin-S easily with Fire Blast, and it is also a great check to Giratina-O that lack Earthquake. Tyranitar can also remove Giratina-O from the match permanently, and its powerful STAB Crunch also gives Lugia a tough time. Entry hazards in the form of Stealth Rock and Spikes are also helpful to weaken Groudon's checks more quickly, easing its sweep.

This set chooses to forgo the common Groudon ideals of supporting, tanking, and boosting; instead, it chooses to become an offensive lead capable of beating all users of Rapid Spin and the all-too-common lead Dialga. This set is also a nasty surprise for physically defensive Kyogre, which likes to switch in on support Groudon, 2HKOing it without fail; Chansey, who is capable of walling the support set, cannot take two Earthquakes from this beast. Stealth Rock is that all-important hazard that every team requires, and this set excels at setting it up after tearing some serious holes in the opposition. Earthquake is the obligatory STAB move, and Groudon actually possesses the strongest one in the game! Fire Punch allows Groudon to OHKO Ferrothorn and Forretress (provided Sturdy isn't active), and also deals heavy damage to Skarmory. Stone Edge paired with Earthquake provides almost impeccable neutral coverage, and is also capable of 2HKOing Pressure Lugia provided Groudon is using a Life Orb. Dragon Claw hits Giratina-O, Latias, and Latios hard, OHKOing the latter two and doing over 60% to the former, provided a Life Orb is used. This set's EVs eschew Groudon's great physical bulk, and instead are poured into Attack and Speed to maximize its offensive presence. However, when running a Jolly nature, 96 EVs can be moved from Speed into HP to give Groudon a bit of extra bulk; this spread outspeeds Mixed Dancer Rayquaza and all neutral-natured base 90 Speed Pokemon. A Life Orb is the preferred item to give a solid boost to all of Groudon's attacks, and is needed in order to 2HKO Lugia with Stone Edge and Giratina-O with Dragon Claw. However, Earth Plate is usable when running an Adamant nature, as it nabs the OHKO on support Dialga with Earthquake and bluffs a Choice Band set. Keep in mind Earth Plate should not be used with a Jolly nature, as Groudon can fail to OHKO 252 HP Dialga with Earthquake if it is not running an Adamant nature. Froslass makes a good teammate for this set, as the Spikes that it sets up can be kept on the field thanks to Groudon's ability to outspeed and OHKO all spinners under the sunlight. Ironically, the Pokemon that this very set aims to beat is also an excellent teammate; Dialga switches into Giratina, Lugia, Arceus-Grass, and Choice Scarf Kyogre relatively easily, and is capable of scaring all of them out with its powerful attacks. Chansey and Blissey also synergize well with Groudon, sponging special attacks coming from Shaymin-S, Mewtwo, Kyurem-W, and Darkrai, all of which outspeed Groudon and can either OHKO or incapacitate it. Groudon can choose to run Thunder Wave or Toxic over one of its coverage moves, but it is usually better off attacking. Swords Dance can also be run in the same slot, as it allows Groudon to pack some serious punch behind its attacks. Opposing support Groudon and Hippowdon are only 3HKOed by Life Orb Earthquake, so the former can set up Stealth Rock and then switch out while the latter can set up Stealth Rock and sandstorm, recover lost HP with Slack Off, and then phaze Groudon out whenever it pleases. Arceus-Grass resists Earthquake and isn't even close to being OHKOed by Fire Punch, and can OHKO Groudon in return with its STAB Judgment or Grass Knot. A physically defensive Giratina isn't 2HKOed by Life Orb Dragon Claw and can phaze or burn Groudon with Will-O-Wisp in return. A fast Lugia with Reflect won't be 2HKOed by Stone Edge, and can Ice Beam or Toxic Groudon to wear it down. Any super effective special attack or strong Draco Meteor will immediately obliterate this set, so play to this set's Speed investment and don't let Groudon take hits it doesn't have to.

Moves For all of Groudon's offensive merits, its defenses are instrumental in enabling sets that lack immediate power; finding opportunities to leverage its incredible bulk proves rather easy. Groudon makes for a fantastic Stealth Rock user, as it leverages its bulk to set entry hazards against the more passive Pokemon in the tier and frees up a moveslot for other Pokemon like Blissey and Heatran. With Groudon's Attack, Earthquake does solid damage to even neutral targets such as Kyogre, Mewtwo, Darkrai, and Scizor, aided greatly by the help of Stealth Rock that Groudon finds so many chances to set up. Dragon Claw is the primary coverage on Groudon to not get walled out by the likes of Giratina-O, Latios, Latias, and Rayquaza. Thunder Wave brings out the best of Groudon's talents as a supporting team member, with the capacity to shut down potential faster switch-ins that take advantage of the lack of Speed and power on this set. Paralysis support can also be leveraged by other teammates that don't quite have enough Speed to sweep through fairly healthy teams, giving them openings to break offensive structures far more effectively. Lava Plume is a great tool for messing with Steel-types like Bronzong and Skarmory while still giving Groudon the option to make progress against Giratina, and it is typically run over Thunder Wave. There are some other move options that can be explored on this set; one of Groudon's best traits is its flexibility. Roar is great on entry hazard-stacking teams looking for a way to mess with mixed attackers with setup moves like Rayquaza, as well as giving the teams that appreciate support Groudon another way to deal with the ever-irritating Ho-Oh. Protect functions well alongside Toxic Spikes to allow Groudon to even wear down some of its counters, and Toxic can be more immediately helpful against opposing Groudon or Giratina, which might carry Will-O-Wisp. Rock Slide is an alternative option to Dragon Claw to turn Groudon into a great Ho-Oh lure, but it can also be used to deal with Lugia, as allowing Lugia to freely use Substitute against bulkier teams can be fatal once Blissey is either removed or weakened. Set Details Fully specially defensive Groudon is the standard choice for a support set, as it is particularly suited for the metagame due to its preference for taking special attacks. Groudon uses its rather impressive Special Defense to check a myriad of special attackers, including Giratina-O, non-Choice Specs Dialga, and Darkrai if a teammate is already asleep. Additionally, sun further accents Groudon's defensive traits by weakening the common Surf used by Kyogre and Palkia, and even a Grass Knot from Latios and Latias doesn't threaten an OHKO after Stealth Rock damage. Activating sun is also made easier with special bulk and makes winning the weather war more consistent. When opting for the main EV spread, a Sassy nature best fits a set running Lava Plume. As an alternative EV option, 112 Speed EVs with a neutral nature allow Groudon outrun Jolly Tyranitar. This can be used when pairing Groudon with a lead Deoxys-S or Deoxys-A as a reliable method of revenge killing Tyranitar, as well as giving Deoxys forms the flexibility to fit another move onto its set, since Groudon can set up Stealth Rock instead. Usage Tips Support Groudon's Achilles' heel is its lack of reliable recovery, often relying on either Wish support or pivoting into a potential Thunder or expected switches. As a result, one should be careful not to let it switch into too many big hits, especially with multiple entry hazards set, as it serves as the glue for many bulky teams that can't afford to take hits with rain active or simply need an Electric immune teammate. Bringing it in to switch the weather is often a risky proposition, as rain teams aren't short of ways to hit Groudon hard, so positioning your team to send it into Pokemon like Bronzong and support Dialga that can't threaten it easily is key. Additionally, the turn when Groudon uses Stealth Rock is very important, as it will either sponge a hit in doing so or let in a Pokemon like Kyogre that can put on far more pressure when given a free turn to switch in. The damage it takes is difficult to heal off, so the Groudon user often tries to create opportunities to recover through Leftovers. This is made somewhat easier by Groudon’s resistance to Stealth Rock, which allows it to gain net health two turns after switching in. Support Groudon is at its best when facilitating other teammates through spreading paralysis and getting damage on key targets; this set should be used as an enabler and not a wall. Team Options Groudon is markedly usable on many different team structures. Sun offense structures can be built around Groudon and take advantage of sun beneficiaries such as Ho-Oh, Shiftry, and Victreebel, and unlike Kyogre for its rain teams, Groudon's Stealth Rock resistance is key in being able to set up sun or pivot into other Pokemon several times throughout a battle. Forretress and Skarmory make for great partners, as their Spikes is one of the most reliable methods of wearing down Kyogre and its many teammates; having other entry hazard setters on the team eases up Groudon's job and makes winning the weather war an easier task. Heatran is also a fantastic partner due to its immunities to burn and poison, two ways of crippling Groudon, and switches into the Ice-, Grass-, and even Water-type moves that Groudon would be hesitant to soak up, with its Fire-type moves doing respectable damage without investment in sun. Jirachi works well in providing Wish support to remedy Groudon's lack of reliable healing and can potentially take a hit from Pokemon like Latios or Palkia lacking a Fire-type move in order to spread paralysis, and Groudon can help check Pokemon such as Lucario, Rayquaza, and Garchomp that Jirachi would run from. Kyogre is a surprisingly good teammate as well, as it appreciates Groudon's ability to weaken or remove Dialga, one of Kyogre's biggest enemies, and Kyogre can help with Skarmory or Bronzong, which non-Lava Plume Groudon struggles to deal with. Groudon is also the backbone of sun stall teams, which have become very prominent in recent years along with the rise of specially defensive Groudon sets. Cresselia greatly appreciates sun, as its Moonlight, coupled with Leftovers, heals a massive 73%, and Blissey enjoys having a teammate that can handily respond to physical attackers. Groudon also serves as a decent answer to mixed Giratina-O, which is otherwise very threatening to stall structures. Rayquaza works well on more offensive structures for its ability to remove Steel-types that most Groudon sets don't appreciate dealing with, and it can help against rain teams by picking off weakened Kyogre or beating Swift Swim sweepers thanks to its Air Lock. Latias is used as the Kyogre check on sun teams, as most structures don't require Latios's immediate power, but Latios can also accompany Groudon if the team being used is more fast-paced. Additionally, Groudon is rarely seen without Giratina-O, as it can spinblock and helps Groudon by chipping checks such as Latios and Mewtwo with its Shadow Sneak.

Sample set before we work on new analyses; up to date as of 09/17/2024. The EV spread is almost completely geared to the defensive side, with 56 EVs invested into Speed so Groudon can beat Timid Choice Scarf Kyogre, as well as other base 90 Speed Pokemon at +1, after a Rock Polish. Further investment in Speed can be useful, but it detracts from the main draw of the set, which is bulk. Not to mention, the less bulk Groudon has, the likelier it is your opponent will figure out it's not running a purely defensive set. Still, investing 124 EVs in Speed will allow Groudon to outspeed base 100 Speed Pokemon with a Choice Scarf; most notably Palkia, who could otherwise 2HKO with Draco Meteor; which can be useful. This Groudon is not the kind of Pokemon you should base your team around. In fact, it plays almost identically to a support set besides the potential boosting. If anything, though, Groudon appreciates entry hazard support, particularly Toxic Spikes, so that it may better deal with opposing Groudon and Kyogre. This does not mean that you need to go out of your way to set it up though; many Pokemon enjoy entry hazard support. Forretress is generally the best Toxic Spikes user in Ubers; it can also set up the other entry hazards too or spin them away from your own side of the field as needed. Skarmory, Lugia, and Giratina are troublesome for Groudon to deal with; a combination of Tickle Wobbuffet and Pursuit Scizor can handle the latter two, while Skarmory can be dealt with by a powerful special attacker like Heatran. The aforementioned Wobbuffet is also useful for eliminating Choice Scarf revenge killers such as Shaymin-S and Palkia, among others.

Choice Band Groudon is commonly used to hit and run, setting up the sunlight while it's at it. With Choice Band boosting its already massive Attack stat, it can easily exploit the generally lower physical defensive Pokemon found in Ubers. With this set, Groudon is capable of striking many Ubers very hard. Earthquake is a general STAB attack that leaves a huge dent in any Pokemon not immune or resistant to it. The other three attacks cover every type that Earthquake does not. Stone Edge damages Lugia badly and easily KOs Ho-Oh, while Dragon Claw destroys Latias and Latios, and also provides some extra power against Giratina and Palkia. Fire Punch wrecks Skarmory, Forretress, and Bronzong and receives what is tantamount to a STAB boost thanks to Drought. While Overheat is an option to OHKO Skarmory, Fire Punch works off Groudon's enormous Attack, doesn't carry an annoying side effect such as a Special Attack drop, and helps in situations where prediction is required, such as between Skarmory and Blissey. Fire Punch will still take down Skarmory in two hits however. The EVs given for this set allow for a combination of durability and power. The combination of HP and Defense EVs allows this Groudon to survive a Rayquaza Outrage that is boosted by both a Life Orb and a Dragon Dance. Meanwhile, the small amount in Speed helps it outrun fellow Ubers that rarely invest in Speed, such as Giratina and Dialga. What stops Choice Band Groudon from dominating the physically frail Uber metagame is its less than staggering Speed. As such, a team that can provide paralysis support will greatly aid Groudon's sweep. Pokemon such as Lugia, which usually lure in special attackers such as Darkrai, Kyogre, and Palkia, can neutralize all such threats with a Thunder Wave on the switch. Similarly, a Kyogre of your own can help lure in Palkia, Latias, and Latios, while also utilizing an uncommon move in Thunder Wave. While Stealth Rock is a great addition to any sweeper, it presents a pseudo Rock / Ground coverage, a two-type combination that hits hard. For example, Lugia, Shaymin-S, and Rayquaza can switch in to an Earthquake with impunity; however, with Stealth Rock in place, the three will lose 25% of their hit points when switching in. Dialga makes a good candidate for setting up Stealth Rock as it is also capable of slowing down various threats with Thunder Wave. It can also lure in Lugia and cripple it with Toxic. Moreover, there are ways to take advantage of these switch-ins as well. In Lugia's case, Taunt Mewtwo can switch in and use Lugia as setup time as long as it avoids Toxic. In a similar manner, Darkrai can switch in, put Lugia to sleep, and set up on it. For Rayquaza, Choice Scarf Dialga can put an end to Swords Dance Rayquaza, while Dragon Dance Rayquaza will be beaten by Choice Scarf Palkia. Choice Scarf Gengar has the ability to beat both Dragon Dance and Swords Dance Rayquaza. Mixed Rayquaza is far more difficult to deal with -- the best bet against it is a Bold Lugia with 248 Speed EVs. Finally, Shaymin-S's plans are foiled by Choice Scarf Dialga, which sports a 4x resistance to Seed Flare and can OHKO with Draco Meteor. Offensively, Groudon pairs well with mixed Rayquaza, which can switch in on Grass- and Water-type attacks reasonably well, lure in standard physical walls such as opposing Bulky Groudon or Lugia, and batter them down with Draco Meteor. Likewise, the unpredictable mixed Dialga sets work well at luring in physical walls, then smacking them hard. Wobbuffet with Tickle, alongside a Pursuit user, can also effectively break Lugia and/or Giratina.

Groudon's modest Speed and massive Attack stats make it a fantastic user of Rock Polish. This set is best used as a late-game sweeper as you will still need residual damage splashed upon the more bulky Pokemon that are neutral against its attacks. After using Rock Polish, Groudon hits a Speed stat of 500, enough to outrun Choice Scarf Garchomp with a Jolly nature. You can then pick one of Groudon's many options to tear up the field with. STAB Earthquake is mandatory and destroys Dialga, Metagross, and any Pokemon that does not resist Ground yet dares to switch in. Fire Punch allows Groudon to break Bronzong after setting up. Dragon Claw is the best option in the last slot, as it allows Groudon to destroy Latias, Latios, Giratina-O, and Rayquaza. Swords Dance, on the other hand, is extremely useful if you can create two turns of setup for Groudon. After both a Rock Polish and a Swords Dance, your opponent will more than likely have to rely on Stone Edge missing if they hope to stop Groudon's rampage. In addition, Swords Dance gives Groudon a reliable way of defeating Wobbuffet barring an untimely Encore, as a +2 Earthquake will always OHKO. The HP EVs allow the maximum number of Life Orb uses and give enough defenses on both sides to take hits if needed. As previously mentioned, the Speed EVs allow Groudon to reach a Speed stat of 500, while the remaining 8 EVs are placed in Defense for slightly more bulk. However, another EV spread to consider is 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe with a Jolly nature. This will allow Groudon to outspeed even a Choice Scarf Mewtwo, which also means that Choice Scarf Shaymin-S and Darkrai can no longer stop Groudon's sweep. Unfortunately, this results in a power loss, meaning Groudon has a far lower chance of obtaining vital OHKOs on Pokemon such as Palkia. This becomes a non-issue when using Swords Dance though, as almost every single Pokemon in the game will be OHKOed regardless of the nature. In fact, the only common Pokemon in Ubers that don't have to rely on Stone Edge's accuracy to beat this Groudon are Cresselia and Giratina. There are three main walls in Ubers that will give Groudon trouble: Cresselia, Lugia (if Groudon lacks Stone Edge), and Giratina. Even when Groudon uses Stone Edge, its shaky accuracy can give Lugia the advantage if it misses. In addition, there are still a few Pokemon capable of revenge killing it: Choice Scarf Darkrai, Choice Scarf Mewtwo, Choice Scarf Shaymin-S, and Wobbuffet. A Timid Darkrai can KO Groudon with Dark Pulse if Groudon is below 40% health, but the threat of sleep is what makes Darkrai truly problematic, as Dark Void gives it a very reliable way of crippling Groudon. Similarly, Timid Mewtwo can do 85% - 100% to Groudon with Grass Knot. Choice Scarf Shaymin-S is a particularly large problem, because not only can it switch into Earthquake, but it can also OHKO Groudon with Seed Flare. Finally, if Wobbuffet switches into Groudon, Groudon will eventually be forced to attack Wobbuffet, and will thus be KOed by Counter. Scizor is a fantastic partner for Rock Polish Groudon. It can easily take Dark Pulses and Grass Knots from Darkrai and Mewtwo, respectively, and can shrug off Shaymin-S's Seed Flare like nothing. Scizor can then threaten to OHKO both Darkrai and Mewtwo with U-turn, and do a serious amount of damage to Shaymin-S. It can also use Pursuit to do a heavy amount of damage to Mewtwo and Shaymin-S as they switch out. Pairing Scizor with Wobbuffet can also spell doom for Giratina and Lugia. Wobbuffet can Encore a support move and use multiple Tickles to allow Scizor to come in and Pursuit the fleeing Pokemon. Kyogre is also a great teammate for Groudon, as its gargantuan Special Defense will easily allow it to take attacks from Mewtwo and Darkrai and use the time to set up Calm Minds or to launch off powerful Water-type attacks. It also has very little to fear from Skarmory, Lugia, and Giratina, and can use them as setup fodder or unleash its powerful attacks on them. Spikes should always be considered in conjunction with Stealth Rock support when using Rock Polish Groudon. With Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes, Palkia will always be OHKOed by Dragon Claw, while 4 HP / 0 Def Mewtwo and Kyogre will also be KOed by Earthquake. Garchomp will have a 92.3% chance of being OHKOed by Groudon's Dragon Claw after Stealth Rock and Spikes, a much more favorable position than the meager 7% chance with only Stealth Rock. Deoxys-S is a good choice for laying down Spikes and Stealth Rock, and makes a good lead for many offensive teams. If Deoxys-S is not a suitable option for your team, Forretress makes another excellent choice as a teammate. Forretress can easily set up Spikes and Stealth Rock on Lugia and Skarmory, both of whom are common switch-ins to Groudon.

戰術分析
This set looks unusual at first but it is effective when used properly. The main idea is to figure out what Pokemon switches into Groudon. Lugia is the prime example as it attempts to stall Groudon out with Reflect and Roost, leaving it useless. This set proposes a different idea than the normal 'hit and run' or 'cripple everything in sight' strategy. Instead, it meshes the ideas together to create quite the imposing threat. It's best to Thunder Wave early in the game when almost every Pokemon is faster than Groudon. Most Pokemon that switch in to take Groudon's attacks aren't usually of the Ground-type, which makes the strategy even more appealing. After crippling some Pokemon, use Swords Dance while the opponent switches, or on Pokemon that don't pose an immediate threat to Groudon. After that, Groudon can tear apart every Pokemon with STAB Earthquake and a boosted Stone Edge. Keep in mind that Stealth Rock is necessary on this set to help generate necessary OHKOs and 2HKOs after a Swords Dance. Without Stealth Rock, Groudon will have a harder time beating down its usual counters even with paralysis on its side. Paralysis is the crux of this set for many reasons. First off, Lugia has a more difficult time blocking Stone Edges as Roost will not remove the Rock-type weakness. Then, the 25% chance of being fully paralyzed is also a benefit and allows free Swords Dances or even more spamming of Groudon's attacks. Finally, having a Pokemon slower than Groudon is always a benefit for you and trouble for your opponent. The EVs here seem somewhat complicated but they actually work well together. 200 HP EVs grant 391 HP, effectively minimizing damage taken by poison, burn, and Spikes while retaining a medium amount of Leftovers recovery. The Attack EVs guarantee that Lugia is taken down after a Swords Danced Stone Edge. The rest is thrown into Defense for durability, although 84 EVs can be taken out of Attack and placed in Speed to generate 237 Speed, which is just enough to outpace neutral base 100s with no Speed. ParaDance Groudon's focus on paralysis not only helps itself sweep, but is also extremely helpful to the many powerful but slow Pokemon of the Uber environment. A great example of this kind of partner is Choice Specs Kyogre. Some people will be tempted to predict an Earthquake, and switch in either Latias or Shaymin-S. With Shaymin-S crippled by paralysis, it will no longer be able to revenge kill Kyogre. Latias will also be unable to use Recover in time before two Ice Beams from Choice Specs Kyogre finishes it off. Giratina-O benefits in a similar way, as a paralyzed Latias has no chance of stopping a Calm Mind Giratina-O from sweeping. If Lugia is paralyzed, then Swords Dance Rayquaza can outspeed Lugia and OHKO it with a +2 Outrage. Most offensive Dialga of any kind will greatly appreciate the paralysis support, especially mixed Dialga. Mixed Dialga can also destroy both Skarmory and Giratina with almost no problems, which means that Groudon itself will have a much easier time sweeping. Additionally, Wobbuffet can benefit from the paralysis. If Groudon paralyzes a Pokemon such as Lugia, it may attempt to use Reflect. However, if you switch Wobbuffet in, it can use Encore before Lugia moves due to the paralysis Speed drop, and thus easily set up a Pokemon such as Darkrai to sweep.

Only use Roar with a few layers of Spikes down. Once you have these in place, you can send Groudon out versus something like Blissey and Roar as they go to Lugia. This will bring in anything but Lugia, which generally means something Groudon takes on fairly well. This set completely walls just about any Blissey, non-Calm Mind Lugia, and physical Deoxys-A. Toxic can be used to actually do something to Lugia, and then you can Rest off its Toxic and use Earthquake to keep Blissey from coming in and using Aromatherapy. The EVs given make Choice Band Metagross's Meteor Mash a 3HKO but still leave Groudon with some attacking power.

Choice Band Groudon works really well. Hidden Power Bug and Hidden Power Ghost both hit Latias and Latios. Hidden Power Bug also OHKOes Exeggutor and Celebi however, while Hidden Power Ghost will not. Overheat really rampages through Skarmory, Forretress, and Exeggutor. This means Hidden Power Ghost eases up predicting the switch to Lugia and also does more to stuff like Rayquaza and Ho-Oh should you not predict them coming in.

Overheat is used to kill Skarmory and Forretress and can also be used to kill Exeggutor. It's used over Flamethrower and Fire Blast because Flamethrower fails to OHKO all but Forretress if Groudon doesn't have Special Attack EVs and Fire Blast has less accuracy. Fire Blast can be used to avoid the Special Attack drop, but you almost never need it for multiple Pokemon on the enemy's team. Use Hidden Power Ghost with Overheat and Hidden Power Bug with Rock Slide generally, although you can use Overheat with Rock Slide if you want. Hidden Power Ghost fails to OHKO Exeggutor on the switch in, though, so beware of that. Other than that, however, Hidden Power Ghost and Hidden Power Bug both hit Latias and Latios equally hard. Hidden Power Ghost also hits Lugia, so Rock Slide isn't as useful. Rock Slide hits Rayquaza, Lugia, and Ho-Oh. For a single physical supplementary attack, however, Hidden Power Ghost is usually used over Rock Slide and Hidden Power Bug because it hits Latias, Latios, and Lugia. Ho-Oh is much less common than Latias, Latios, and Lugia, three of the most common Ubers, so you get better coverage with Overheat than with Rock Slide.

Groudon can come in on the likes of Blissey, set up a Substitute as the opponent switches, and then proceed to Swords Dance. Groudon can continue to Substitute until it gets the Salac Berry boost, allowing it to outspeed positive natured Deoxys-A. Earthquake gets STAB and hurts Forretress and Mewtwo after a Swords Dance or two, while Hidden Power Ghost hurts Lugia, Latias, and Latios. The 204 Speed EVs allow Groudon to outspeed Deoxys-A and normal Deoxys after the Salac Berry boost, and maximum Attack is obvious on a sweeper. 44 HP EVs mean the Salac boost comes on the third Substitute, and the additional 8 EVs are relegated to Special Defense.
