Toxic is needed to break down bulky Pokemon and wear down foes for stall. Heal Bell cures Lickilicky and its teammates of status. Seismic Toss can be used instead of Toxic or Heal Bell to get chip damage on Pokemon immune to Toxic like Bronzor, Komala, and Mareanie. It also allows Lickilicky to break Substitutes. However, using this move requires Lickilicky to forfeit the ability to either threaten rival stall teams or heal itself and its teammates of status conditions. Set Details Oblivious gives Lickilicky an immunity to Taunt, meaning it is not forced to run attacks. It also allows Lickilicky to use Toxic against stallbreakers that rely on Taunt, such as Floatzel, Vigoroth, and Oricorio-F. 248 HP is preferred over 252 HP so that Lickilicky takes less damage from status and entry hazards and to maximize Wish recovery. Usage Tips Lickilicky's Oblivious ability allows it to come in against and pressure common users of Taunt, such as Vigoroth and Floatzel. Lickilicky's naturally high Special Defense means it can easily come in on special attackers such as Kadabra, Silvally-Water, and Zebstrika. From there, it can proceed to use Wish. Protect is vital for scouting what set the foe uses, healing Lickilicky with Wish, and racking up poison damage. Lickilicky can also use Protect to weaken the damage of Z-Moves from the likes of Raichu and Simisear and heal off the damage with Wish. Lickilicky should be cautious around Choice item users with Switcheroo or Trick. Be wary about repeatedly using Heal Bell because it only has 8 PP. Team Options Lickilicky has problems with setup sweepers; therefore, Pokemon that can stop them, such as Pyukumuku and Mareanie, are good options for teammates. Lickilicky's ability to heal its team with Wish is appreciated by other Pokemon that lack reliable recovery such as Bronzor, Silvally-Ground, and Golem. Ghost-types such as Gougeist-XL and Dusclops make good partners for Lickilicky, thanks to their immunity to Fighting-type moves. Pokemon like Silvally-Ground, Silvally-Water, and Z-Move Pyukumuku are immune to Trick, which cripples Lickilicky. Entry hazard removers, such as Komala and Altaria, are also good teammates for Lickilicky. These two Pokemon also double as status absorbers for Lickilicky thanks to their abilities, and Altaria's own Heal Bell allows Lickilicky to run other options in its moveset.

Thanks to its good bulk, ability to pass enormous Wishes, and access to phazing in Dragon Tail, Lickilicky makes for an outstanding team supporter. Wish in combination with Protect allows Lickilicky to both heal itself and its teammates. With a monstrous 212 HP being passed every time Lickilicky uses Wish, the recipient will often be recovering more than half of their health. Furthermore, Protect allows Lickilicky to scout a potential Trick from a known Choice item user, such as Rotom-C, and respond accordingly. Body Slam provides Lickilicky with a reliable STAB move with a nifty chance of paralysis, while Return does more damage overall. Lastly, Dragon Tail is a fantastic move that allows Lickilicky to phaze out opposing Pokemon that try to set up on it, and it also spreads entry hazard damage. Maximum HP and Special Defense investment allows Lickilicky to pass the largest Wishes possible and makes the most use of Lickilicky's typing and defenses. A physically defensive set is largely outclassed for several reasons: Alomomola functions better as a physically defensive Wish passer; Lickilicky is weak to one of the most prominent physical types, Fighting; and there are superior physical walls available in RU, such as Dusknoir, Tangrowth, and Spiritomb. Lickilicky has many viable options on this set. Heal Bell grants Lickilicky the opportunity to act as a cleric, curing your team of status ailments. Disable is an interesting option that received a huge boost in BW; it now functions over a longer period of time, meaning that Lickilicky can lock the opponent out of using a critical move. Knock Off cripples nearly every Pokemon, ridding Eviolite users of their magnified defenses, Leftovers users of their recovery, and offensive Pokemon of their Life Orb or Choice item. Seismic Toss is usable, although it neutralizes one of Lickilicky's main draws over Clefable, a higher Attack stat and access to Body Slam. Toxic works wonders in conjunction with Protect and Wish, but Lickilicky simply doesn't have enough reason to use it over other useful moves. Physically defensive partners, especially those that resist Fighting-type moves, are capable teammates. Spiritomb and Tangrowth are both viable options and can handle the plethora of Fighting-types that can hit Lickilicky. Entry hazard support is critical for Lickilicky, as Dragon Tail's effectiveness is greatly boosted when Stealth Rock and several layers of Spikes or Toxic Spikes are up. Qwilfish has Intimidate to weaken physical assaults and can lay both Spikes and Toxic Spikes, while Uxie can set up Stealth Rock and KO opposing Fighting-types with Psychic. Both of these Pokemon do not have access to recovery moves outside of Rest, so Lickilicky's Wish support is greatly appreciated. If a more offensively inclined Spikes user is desirable, Scolipede has a 4x resistance to Fighting-type moves and can maim the opposition with STAB Megahorn. Ghost-type Pokemon such as Spiritomb, Dusknoir, and Rotom all pair well with Lickilicky, as they can easily handle obnoxious Fighting-type Pokemon and burn them with Will-O-Wisp, as well as block Rapid Spin from ridding the hazards that generally come with Lickilicky. Lastly, Steelix or bulky Water-types, such as Lanturn and Slowking, make for good partners, as they can handle Klinklang and other Steel-type Pokemon who try to set up on Lickilicky.

Though most offensive variants of Lickilicky are outclassed by Clefable, this set is an exception thanks to its higher base Attack, better coverage, and most importantly, STAB Explosion. Despite the fact that Explosion was weakened with the advent of BW, Lickilicky's is still strong enough to OHKO some of the bulkiest Pokemon in RU such as Tangrowth and Qwilfish. Furthermore, Explosion allows frail powerhouses, such as Absol or Accelgor, who usually struggle finding moves to switch into, to be brought in unscathed. Since Lickilicky's Support set is bait for Fighting-type Pokemon, it also acts as a surprise to them. Return is the main STAB move of the set, and it hits most Pokemon that don't resist it for a lot of damage. However, Body Slam is a very interesting alternative over Return, due to its chance of paralyzing the opponent's Pokemon. Power Whip and Fire Punch are used as coverage moves because they complement Return well, hitting the Rock- and Steel-type Pokemon that resist Lickilicky's STAB for super effective damage. Explosion, despite its raw power, should be used very carefully, since the opponent might predict it and switch in a Ghost-type Pokemon. The best way of stopping Choice Band Lickilicky is proper prediction. Pokemon such as Magneton or Omastar can be brought in on a Power Whip or a Fire Punch, respectively, though they're both OHKOed by the correct coverage move. They can also tank a Return or two if needed. Tangrowth is one of the Pokemon with enough bulk to wall Choice Band Lickilicky, despite its powerful Fire Punch, though it has to be aware of Explosion. Also, since Lickilicky has no way of hitting Ghost-types for super effective damage, Pokemon such as Spiritomb and Dusknoir can take everything Lickilicky throws at them and burn it with Will-O-Wisp, leaving it greatly crippled for the rest of the battle. The EV spread gives Lickilicky all the power it can get, along with a decent amount of bulk and the ability to outrun any Clefable that doesn't invest in Speed, which is very useful, since Lickilicky can 2HKO Clefable before it has the opportunity to use Soft-Boiled. Since this variant of Lickilicky causes lots of switches, entry hazard support from the likes of Accelgor is appreciated, along with a Ghost-type Pokemon to protect the entry hazards from Rapid Spin. Furthermore, both Accelgor and Ghost-types can take Fighting-type moves aimed at Lickilicky. Similarly, since Lickilicky easily lures in Fighting-types, Pokemon such as Omastar and Aerodactyl, that benefit from having them out of the way, are good partners to Lickilicky as well. Lickilicky also has access to an amount of coverage moves bigger than its tongue, including Aqua Tail, Earthquake, Hammer Arm, and Thunder Punch, but Fire Punch and Power Whip are usually superior in terms of coverage. Last but not least, Lickilicky can also be on a Trick Room team with a Brave nature and 0 Speed IVs, but Pokemon such as Druddigon hit much harder than it does, so it's not recommended.

The move selection on Lickilicky might seem a little odd at first, especially to those expecting something a little less offensive. However, this set serves its purpose well. A Life Orb-backed Power Whip almost always OHKOs 252 HP Politoed, which certainly messes around with weather. Return provides a strong STAB attack, which can hit Abomasnow for high damage, something which Power Whip and Earthquake can't do. Earthquake hits Ninetales and Steel-types for high damage, although the reduction in power caused by hitting two Pokemon makes it much less powerful than expected. Explosion is another option instead of Return, although a Normal Gem would be useful in that case to make up for the lack of a Defense drop this generation along with the spread move power reduction. Protect is useful for stalling out your opponent and scouting for dangerous moves. Lickilicky isn't anything too incredible. Its most reliable way of getting rid of Politoed, Tyranitar, and Hippowdon is Power Whip, which has a lacking 85% accuracy. Return is easy to use in simulator play, but in cartridge play, raising its happiness to the max is a long process and can be very tedious. Earthquake is weakened in doubles since it is a spread move and so it doesn't hit too hard, especially coming off of Lickilicky's base 85 attack stat. If using Explosion, be sure it will definitely KO what it needs to hit, as otherwise weather will return to normal without any benefits to your side. Without its ability, Lickilicky would probably never see much use. Lickilicky is extremely slow, only having 50 Base Speed. Because of this, it appreciates Trick Room support. If using Lickilicky under Trick Room, a 0 Speed IV is recommended in order to be sure you can outrun common threats under Trick Room. Common Trick Room setters such as Cresselia and Musharna pair well with Lickilicky because they aren't hit by Earthquake and also provide Helping Hand support. In addition to that, they also resist Fighting-type moves and can hit back with super effective Psychic-type attacks. Pokemon like Togekiss and Zapdos can also be great partners, since Zapdos has a Fighting-type resistance and and both have the ability to hit back hard. Pokemon that hit Steel-types for super effective damage, such as Heatran, Hitmontop, Garchomp, and any other Fire-, Fighting-, and Ground-types also serve as good partners. Setting up Trick Room can also counter weather as well, as weathers like rain and sun can be used to abuse Swift Swim and Chlorophyll, respectively. Against hail and sand, Lickilicky appreciates partners that can aid it in countering the setters and abusers. Pokemon such as Bronzong fill that role well, with moves such as STAB Gyro Ball to take care of Tyranitar and Abomasnow. Lickilicky loves Helping Hand support to make up for its lacking attack power against common threats. Lickilicky's best asset isn't a strong offense. Its niche in the VGC 2012 metagame is its ability: Cloud Nine. Lickilicky really just wants to stay alive and on the field for as long as possible to mess with your opponent's weather. If your team handles weather nicely, then it probably won't need Lickilicky's assistance. It serves a very specific role, and if your opponent doesn't run weather, you pretty much only have 5 other Pokemon to choose from because you won't want to be using Lickilicky.

As a Curse user, Lickilicky faces competition from other Cursers in UU, such as Registeel, Steelix, Cradily, and Miltank. However, Lickilicky offers a few perks over his competition. The first is the element of surprise, as your opponent can never know which set your Lickilicky will be utilizing. The second is that Lickilicky offers only one weakness and a higher Special Defense stat than his fellow Normal-type Curser Miltank. Lastly, Lickilicky gets nearly perfect coverage in two moves; the combination of Water / Normal is only resisted by Shedinja in UU. The major downside to using Lickilicky is his lack of reliable recovery. The EVs are designed to give Lickilicky the maximum amount of Special Defense possible, as he will be raising his Defense stat with Curse. The odd looking Defense EVs allow Lickilicky to survive a Life Orb Blaziken's Superpower or a TechniTop's Close Combat after only one Curse, KOing Blaziken in return with Aqua Tail and dealing 49.3% - 58.2% to TechniTop with Return. When using Curse Lickilicky, it is best to switch into a weak attacker that poses little threat to him, such as Chansey or Spiritomb, and begin to accumulate Curse boosts. However, you should also keep Lickilicky hidden until later in the match to be sure that the really strong hitters such as Hitmonlee, Rhyperior, and Alakazam have been eliminated from the opposing team. This Lickilicky set is more situational than the other sets, as it performs far better against stall or balanced teams than against heavily offensive teams. Rest is Lickilicky's main form of recovery and heals any status conditions Lickilicky may encounter, particularly burn and poison. Using Rest without Sleep Talk is a little risky though, as it leaves Lickilicky completely exposed to enemies who can set up and KO Lickilicky while he's asleep. Wish can be used instead, but leaves Lickilicky no way of curing status conditions. Also, without Protect, the one turn gap between using Wish and getting healed could be the difference between life and death. If coverage isn't an issue, then Aqua Tail can be replaced with Sleep Talk or Explosion to either give Lickilicky more survivability or to allow Lickilicky to go out with a bang. However, using Return as the only attack will leave Lickilicky utterly walled by Ghost-, Steel-, and Rock-types. Lickilicky's most hated enemies when using this set are Mismagius and Spiritomb with both Taunt and Will-O-Wisp, as they can burn Lickilicky and then Taunt him to prevent him from healing with Rest. Thus, Pokemon such as Skuntank or Spiritomb who can remove these pesky Ghost-types make good teammates for Curse Lickilicky. Registeel poses another obstacle to Lickilicky, as even at +6 Lickilicky will fail to 2HKO with Aqua Tail. In the meantime, Registeel is free to Thunder Wave Lickilicky and start to paraflinch with Iron Head, or worse, set up Curse itself. Teammates such as Rhyperior or Dugtrio are recommended to ensure Lickilicky can sweep unhindered.

Lickilicky has a very extensive support movepool and enough bulk to use it effectively. When considering Lickilicky for a support role on your team, you must consider his advantages over Clefable and Chansey. Even without full investment in Defense, Lickilicky is significantly bulkier physically and has a much higher Attack stat than either Chansey or Clefable, while having only slightly less special bulk than Chansey. The only thing Lickilicky truly lacks is a decent ability. Return is Lickilicky's STAB of choice and is a nice move for picking off frail special sweepers. Toxic is a great move for weakening walls and for shortening the life span of sweepers that may switch into Lickilicky. If Toxic isn't your cup of tea, Knock Off can be used in its place. Knock Off is great for removing Leftovers from walls, such as Registeel, or Life Orb from sweepers, such as Hitmonlee. The next moveslot depends on how you want Lickilicky to heal his teammates; Wish replenishes HP while Heal Bell removes status from your team. What goes in the last slot is a tough choice to make. Power Whip ensures that Lickilicky will not be completely blocked by Ghost-types and prevents them from setting up Substitute. Protect, on the other hand, has a few more uses; it allows Lickilicky to stall while Toxic damage builds up, scouts your opponent's move, and provides reliable recovery in conjunction with Wish. The given EVs give Lickilicky maximum special bulk, as he is more suited to tanking special hits since he has almost no weaknesses to exploit; special Fighting-type attacks are almost nonexistent in UU except for those that utilize Hidden Power or Focus Blast, such as Mismagius or Alakazam. Even with no Defense investment, Lickilicky is far physically bulkier than either Chansey or Clefable. An alternative spread of 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD can be used to balance Lickilicky's defenses and allows him to take physical hits better; however, this spread greatly reduces his special walling capabilities. If you want Lickilicky to take physical attacks rather than special ones, an alternate spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD can be used. If you are using Lickilicky on a stall team, he can work as a great lure for Fighting-types, using Toxic as they switch in and then switching out to a Fighting-type counter. Lickilicky is a great stop to most of the special attacking Pokemon of UU, taking only 39.9% - 46.9% from a Choice Specs Alakazam's Psychic and KOing it with Return. Lickilicky must be wary of Focus Blast from Alakazam, but is capable of surviving a Choice Specs Alakazam's Focus Blast from full health. Even though Lickilicky is more physically bulky than Chansey and Clefable, Fighting-types are still the bane of Lickilicky's existence. In order to be successful, Lickilicky must have teammates who can counter them with ease. Rotom or Mismagius make good switch-ins to most of the Fighting-types of UU; however, they must be wary of any Dark-type moves Fighting-types may carry. If using Rotom or Mismagius as a teammate, using Will-O-Wisp is not advised since the burn prevents Lickilicky from poisoning the opposing Pokemon. Instead, Rotom or Mismagius should use Substitute to stall for Toxic damage and to scout the opponent's next move. Lickilicky also has no way of damaging any of the Steel-types of UU with this set, so Pokemon who can dispose of them, such as Arcanine or Hitmontop, make good partners.

Whereas the Swords Dance set aims to boost your damage output and then sweep, this set aims to punch holes in the opposing team and to do more immediate damage. This set uses Lickilicky's movepool to its full potential, exploiting his amazing type coverage at the cost of being locked into one move. Thanks to Lickilicky's great natural bulk, he can switch into neutral hits fairly consistently and fire off his high-powered attacks. The choice of Explosion or Fire Punch is really dependent on what your team is more concerned with. If Steel-types are more of a problem, especially Registeel, then Fire Punch is worth carrying in place of Explosion. Explosion, on the other hand, will hit just about everything except Ghosts and defensive Steels for a large chunk of damage. Thanks to Lickilicky's large HP stat and solid defenses, Double-Edge is an option over Return if you really want that 27 extra Base Power when accounting for STAB. Unfortunately, Choice Band will lock you into whatever move you choose, likely causing Lickilicky to have to switch out many times, meaning that Spikes and Stealth Rock will be a problem. Due to this inconvenience, a Rapid Spinner is welcome to clear these hazards from the field. Claydol is a good choice because it resists Lickilicky's sole Fighting-type weakness. Donphan is also a good candidate because of his naturally high Defense.

Thanks to Lickilicky's great natural bulk, incredible movepool, and respectable Attack stat, he can pull off a Swords Dance set pretty efficiently. Return is an incredibly high-powered move after a Swords Dance boost and is the main weapon in this set. Power Whip helps Lickilicky KO Rock-type Pokemon such as Rhyperior and Regirock and keeps Milotic in check. Aqua Tail, however, is also a viable option, providing perfect neutral coverage alongside Return, bar Shedinja. The given EV spread will allow Lickilicky to outspeed standard Rhyperior, Registeel, and Weezing. However, the main attraction of this set is a Swords Dance-boosted Explosion. After a Swords Dance boost, Lickilicky even does 70% minimum to Choice Band Aggron. Wish is also a usable move in the last slot to fake a support set or to prolong your own sweeps. An alternate EV spread of 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD can be used to increase Lickilicky's overall bulk, letting him take some more hits. With this EV spread, Lickilicky is never OHKOed by Rhyperior's Stone Edge or Choice Specs Sceptile's Leaf Storm. Another alternate EV spread is 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe with a Jolly Nature, allowing Lickilicky to speed tie with Jolly Aggron and other positive nature base 50s as well as neutral base 60s. Earthquake is also usable in the last slot if Registeel and Fire-types like Arcanine are giving you trouble. Lastly, Substitute can be used in the final slot instead of Explosion or Wish to help Lickilicky set up more easily, while also protecting him from status. Since Ghosts are a huge problem for this set, Houndoom makes an excellent partner due to his ability to trap them. If running Power Whip instead of Aqua Tail, then Steels will be rather troublesome. Dugtrio and Arcanine make good partners for taking out these threats. Donphan is also a good partner for spinning away hazards and setting up Stealth Rock. If Lickilicky is using Power Whip instead of Aqua Tail, then Registeel and Magneton are excellent counters. Aggron can also shrug off a +2 Power Whip and hit back with a powerful Head Smash. Hitmontop is a good check to this set thanks to Intimidate and STAB Close Combat, but has difficulty switching in.

Lickilicky's biggest asset is his movepool. This set provides Lickilicky with great type coverage and amazing stallbreaking capabilities. He is capable of luring in and denting many important tanks in UU, such as Chansey, Registeel, and Milotic. Thankfully, this set has many options; it can be tailor-made to fit almost any team. Explosion is a good last-ditch move and will dent anyone who comes in who isn't a Ghost-type. Lickilicky also has access to the Thunderbolt / Ice Beam combo, but Power Whip and Fire Blast will generally be better as they hit more of the top threats of UU for super effective damage and have a higher damage output. The EVs are designed to ensure a 2HKO on Chansey with Return, 2HKOs on 252/0 Registeel and Weezing with Fire Blast (after Stealth Rock), and a 2HKO on Milotic with Power Whip. The nature is Brave as Lickilicky wants as much bulk as he can get, leaving him with no room for Speed investment. For this reason, it should be noted that Lickilicky will be slower than almost all of the base 50s in UU, leaving him exposed to status. With Lickilicky exposed to all forms of status, a cleric, such as Altaria, is recommended as a teammate. Altaria also makes a good Fighting-type counter and enjoys Lickilicky's ability to switch into Milotic's Ice Beam. Lickilicky also lacks any form of recovery with this set, so a Wish passer, such as Leafeon or Gardevoir, is also recommended as a partner. Lickilicky has just enough bulk to avoid a 2HKO from all of the walls mentioned above; however, if Stealth Rock is in play, Lickilicky's survival rate is greatly reduced, so including a Rapid Spinner on the team is a good idea. Some good Rapid Spinners to pair with Lickilicky include Claydol and Blastoise. Lickilicky also enjoys Stealth Rock on the opposite side of the field as it ensures he can obtain a 2HKO on Milotic and Registeel and an OHKO on Rhyperior. Any sweeper that is stopped by a wall in UU benefits from this set. Nasty Plot Mismagius or Alakazam love to have Registeel and Chansey out of the picture, Fire-types such as Arcanine or Moltres enjoy Milotic removed from play, and Fighting-types such as Hitmonlee or Hariyama like Weezing out of the way.
