Also, make sure to remove faster Choice Scarf users, such as Scyther and Primeape. Try to set up on a special attacker, as Regice can take a hit from most of them. Remember that Regice's insane natural bulk can be used to keep sweepers like Nasty Plot Alolan Persian in check. Also, attempt to remove entry hazards before setting up with Regice, as it is weak to Stealth Rock and its chances of setting up are improved when it is at full health. Afterwards, use the Z-Move when faced with a check to Regice that would stop its sweep if it doesn't hit Focus Blast, such as Alolan Sandslash. Team Options Hazard control is almost mandatory when using Regice, as it is vulnerable to almost all forms of entry hazards and weak to Stealth Rock. Hitmonchan can check Rock-types like Lycanroc, while Kabutops and Swanna take on either Fire- or Fighting-types for Regice while also providing hazard removal. In order to wear down its checks and counters, Regice also appreciates hazard support. This makes Spikes setters like Qwilfish as well as Stealth Rock setters like Torterra and Regirock great partners. Toxic Spikes are especially helpful to wear down Pokemon like Lanturn and Musharna. Lanturn is the biggest common obstacle to a Regice sweep. While wearing it down with hazards helps, Pokemon that pressure Lanturn like Oricorio-G and Floatzel make good teammates. It also lands a reliable neutral hit on Fire-types, dealing a lot of damage to Charizard in particular. Focus Blast completes Regice's coverage by hitting other Ice-types harder, particularly Aurorus and Abomasnow, while also hitting many Pokemon that resist BoltBeam coverage, such as Piloswine and Rotom-F, as well as generally bulky foes such as Regirock for good damage. Toxic can also be used to deter defensive threats such as Lanturn, Hariyama, and Grumpig, as well as setup sweepers such as Mega Audino, from attempting to take advantage of Regice's slight lack of power. Thunder Wave lets Regice paralyze opposing Pokemon reliably, making threats such as Ludicolo and Tauros vulnerable to a follow-up attack, as Regice outspeeds them, or making them a target for a teammate to pick off later. Protect can also be used, netting Regice more Leftovers recovery and potentially racking up Toxic damage on bulky foes such as Musharna that Regice can't deal with otherwise. Set Details 52 Speed EVs allow Regice to outspeed defensive Torterra and Gourgeist-XL before they can respond with a strong STAB attack or status move respectively. Maximum Special Attack investment alongside a Modest nature maximizes Regice's damage output, and the remaining EVs are invested in HP to improve Regice's general bulk, letting it take even powerful super effective hits such as Pyroar's Fire Blast. Leftovers is necessary to compensate for Regice's lack of recovery, ensuring it can act as a pivot for a larger portion of the game. Clear Body, while situational, is useful to let Regice switch into Memento users with impunity and hopefully stop any setup sweepers that switch in by using Thunder Wave or Toxic afterwards. It also prevents defensive stat drops from certain attacks such as Razor Shell and Psychic. Usage Tips Regice should switch into special attackers that can't threaten it, such as Ludicolo, Floatzel, and Swellow. It should then either use Thunder Wave to paralyze them or the opponent's switch-in, or use Ice Beam or a coverage move to go straight for the KO if status has already been inflicted on them. Thunder Wave should also be used if the opponent sends in a setup sweeper that can't block the move, to either cripple the Pokemon or stop it from setting up altogether if it switches. It's also a good move to throw out in general when the opponent has a Fire-type Pokemon that they are likely to switch in. Toxic should be used when the opponent brings in a bulky wall or setup sweeper to try to take advantage of Regice's modest damage output, and Regice can then chip away at it with Ice Beam or switch to a more appropriate teammate to take advantage of the crippled foe. Regice should be preserved for later if Stealth Rock is present on its side of the field, as losing 25% of its health every time it switches in is extremely detrimental, especially if the opponent packs a consistent response to Regice, such as Lanturn. Even though Regice has a good Defense stat, it takes enough damage from physical attackers to prevent it being an effective pivot against things it normally beats such as Swellow and Floatzel in the late-game, so use it against them only if absolutely necessary. Team Options Entry hazard control is highly appreciated so that Regice can keep switching into foes throughout the battle and attack or spread status effectively. Pelipper and Mantine can use Defog and resist Fire- and Fighting-type attacks while appreciating Regice's resistance to Freeze-Dry. Hitmonchan and Claydol can use Rapid Spin while dealing with Steel-types more effectively and resisting Rock-type attacks. Physically defensive partners are useful for handling foes that can exploit Regice's weaker Defense stat. Mesprit and Musharna can deal with Fighting-types reliably, while Weezing can also use Will-O-Wisp to cripple physical attackers and Taunt to shut down setup sweepers such as Mega Audino. Steelix also makes for an excellent response to Calm Mind Psychic-types, such as Musharna and Mesprit, that can set up on Regice lacking Toxic. Slow wallbreakers highly appreciate Regice paralyzing fast offensive threats that could otherwise beat them, such as Swellow and Archeops. Magmortar and Samurott can handle other Ice- and Fire-types, respectively, and will take chunks out of most switch-ins with their powerful STAB attacks. Fire-types such as Pyroar appreciate Regice's ability to cripple common defensive switch-ins such as Hariyama and Lanturn with Toxic, while also dealing with faster offensive threats such as Swellow and Archeops that can otherwise outspeed and KO it.

Regice's Speed is the only thing holding it back from performing a sweep against other teams; Rock Polish fixes that. With access to Rock Polish, great overall bulk, and a decent Special Attack, Regice stands as a bulky sweeper that can inflict damage and take a hit in the process. Regice has perfect coverage with its three attacking moves, allowing it to hit every Pokemon in NU for neutral damage. It works best as a late-game sweeper, as it doesn't quite have the offensive presence to KO bulky Pokemon early- or mid-game. Rock Polish is what makes the magic happen in this set; at +2, Regice can outspeed positive-natured base 125 Pokemon or below, such as Swellow and Floatzel, which is mind-blowing. Regice wields a BoltBeam combination in this set as well; Ice Beam is Regice's STAB, and when paired with Thunderbolt, it gives Regice a nearly perfect coverage. Focus Blast is the final coverage move, as it hits Pokemon such as Probopass, Rotom-F, and Piloswine for more damage. Regice has 252 EVs in Special Attack, a Life Orb, and a Modest nature to give it as much offensive potential as possible. 32 HP EVs give Regice 309 HP, meaning it'll take 30 damage from Life Orb recoil instead of 31. The Speed EVs allow it to outrun Swellow at +2. Leftovers can be used over Life Orb for consistent healing, but the lack of power makes Regice less effective as a sweeper. There aren't any viable alternative move selections for this set. Entry hazard users are appreciated alongside Regice with this set; because Regice is a late-game sweeper, having Pokemon weakened will benefit it, as some Pokemon, specifically Samurott and Sawk, can only be KOed with entry hazard damage. Roselia, while sharing a Fire-type weakness with Regice, can take the physical Fighting-type attacks that Regice can't stand and lay down Spikes. Golurk can check Fighting-types for Regice and set up Stealth Rock. Rapid Spin support is recommended, as Regice is revenge killed more easily after taking residual damage. Wartortle is a good option, as it can take the Fire-type attacks aimed at Regice while having good defensive synergy. U-turn or Volt Switch support is appreciated, as it gets Regice on the field safely. Pokemon such as Swellow, Braviary, and Eelektross are good options, as the former two can deal with bulky Pokemon Regice can't beat, such as Musharna, while the latter has Coil to raise its Defense, making it good backup against physically offensive Pokemon Regice has issues with. If Regice gets paralyzed, its chances of sweeping are ruined. Heal Bell support from Pokemon such as Flareon, Lickilicky, and Miltank is appreciated; Flareon and Lickilicky can also offer Wish support. Ironically, opposing Regice with Thunder Wave can paralyze Regice, rendering Rock Polish useless. Fighting-types such as Gurdurr can demolish opposing Regice.

Regice's amazing special bulk and acceptable base 100 Special Attack are combined to form an offensive tank set. It doesn't exactly fit the role of a support Pokemon, but with its near-perfect coverage and a recovery option in Rest, it makes for a great balanced Pokemon. Rest is Regice's only recovery move, healing it in a pinch. Sleep Talk provides the second half of the RestTalk strategy, which allows Regice to check threats it needs to while maintaining its longevity. One notable issue with RestTalk is that it is much easier to switch into, and must rely on the luck of Sleep Talk to inflict damage. The final two moveslots give Regice the famous BoltBeam combination, which hits almost every Pokemon for neutral damage. Leftovers is the ideal item for this set for extended longevity. However, a Chesto Berry can be used to wake up Regice from Rest. What makes Chesto Berry a situational choice is that it only wakes Regice from sleep once; after the Chesto Berry has been eaten and Rest is used a second time, Regice is forced to rely on Sleep Talk in order to avoid becoming setup fodder. 248 HP EVs are so that Regice can come in four times with Stealth Rock on the field. 252 Special Attack EVs with a Modest nature maximizes Regice's damage output when using its special attacks. An EV spread focusing on Special Defense can be used to allow Regice to tank special hits much easier, but with its huge base 200 Special Defense, it's rarely needed. Toxic can be used in this set, as it's great at crippling bulky Pokemon that Regice has difficulties getting past, such as Piloswine and Eelektross. Thunder Wave can also be used to cripple faster Pokemon that Regice walls such as Ludicolo, Samurott, and Haunter, as well support the team by giving slower Pokemon such as Choice Band Sawk and Braviary the ability to outspeed Pokemon they normally would not. Focus Blast can be used instead of Rest—forgoing Sleep Talk and Chesto Berry as well—to hit Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Probopass harder; however, it's not recommended, as Rest's recovery allows Regice to last longer in the match. Entry hazards, especially Stealth Rock, can easily wear Regice down. Because of this, Rapid Spin support is appreciated. Wartortle is a great spinner, as it has good defensive synergy with Regice. If you want Regice to wake up from Rest sooner, Heal Bell support is recommended; Lickilicky, Flareon, and Musharna are great options in this department, as they all have great bulk to tank hits alongside Regice; the first two can even offer Wish support when Rest's sleep effect is unwanted. Because foes usually opt to target Regice's Defense, physically defensive Pokemon such as Alomomola and Tangela are great partners. The former can offer Wish and the latter offers Leech Seed; Regice appreciates all the recovery it can get. Samurott and Seismitoad have good synergy with Regice, as they deal with each others weaknesses quite well. Sawk and Gurdurr can punch through either set easily; Misdreavus and Garbodor are great partners to handle not only them, but other Fighting-types as well.

Set Description Ice Beam forces Zapdos out by threatening to OHKO it under sand. It also allows Regice to turn the tables on Celebi, which is usually used to gain momentum on special walls. Other auxiliary uses of Ice Beam are providing a weak Salamence and Flygon check, especially on offensive teams that don't have good answers to physical threats; hitting Tyranitar and Swampert hard; and forcing Claydol out. Notably, Ice Beam puts Tyranitar into the KO range of Dugtrio's Earthquake and Swampert's Hydro Pump. Deterring Swampert's repeated entry into Regice as a sacrificial check is helpful if an astute opponent deduces that Regice is supporting a specially offensive team that Swampert is ineffective against anyway. The Electric coverage move primarily hits Skarmory to deny too many layers of Spikes, places Suicune in range of Explosion with the possibility of a Dugtrio follow-up, and forces Starmie out. It also allows Regice to be a weak check to Gyarados on the frail, specially offensive teams it frequently ends up on. Thunderbolt is by far more consistent, and its accuracy may be vital when facing key threats like Gyarados and Starmie, but Thunder pressures Skarmory more with the certain 2HKO, assuming it hits. When using Hidden Power Fire, the paralysis rate of Thunder can also serve to compress Electric coverage and Thunder Wave into one move. Explosion severely damages special walls like Blissey that switch into Regice. Additionally, it limits the setup opportunities of Curse Snorlax, Dragon Dance Tyranitar, and Calm Mind Jirachi by getting a check like Swampert or Dugtrio in without taking any damage and denting them just enough for a follow-up KO. Explosion with 104 Attack EVs allows Dugtrio to follow up on most Curse Snorlax under sand with a guaranteed KO. Note that Explosion on teams without Dugtrio can be pretty dismal, so Hidden Power Fire can be used over Explosion to pressure offensive teams more readily, as long as one plans to exert offensive pressure on Blissey or Snorlax through some other means. Hidden Power Fire also reduces Metagross's ease of switching in and makes quick work of Magneton, which can potentially nullify Regice with Toxic + Protect. It also prevents Forretress from setting Spikes indefinitely. Thunder Wave reliably forces Jolteon and non-Substitute offensive variants of Jirachi out while paralyzing checks with average Speed like Tyranitar, Metagross, and defensive Jirachi. While paralyzing these bulky Pokemon may seem innocuous at first glance, the Speed drop gives one's own Metagross and Tyranitar the assurance of outspeeding the foe and maintains offensive momentum. Finally, Hidden Power Fire can also be an option over Thunder Wave for reasons above. Team Options Regice has two roles: a lure for special walls and pivot into special threats and out of bulky Pokemon. In its role as a lure, it appreciates Dugtrio finishing off the weakened wall after Explosion. Regice, however, can still function perfectly fine without Dugtrio if the team can maintain momentum on the walls. Note that without Dugtrio, these frail offensive teams that Regice tends to end up on need a way to prevent Dragon Dance Tyranitar from running amok. Regice paves the way for either fast special sweepers like Ludicolo and Starmie or Calm Mind sweepers like Suicune, Raikou, and Jirachi. In its role as an offensive pivot, Regice can easily switch or double switch to Choice Band Metagross upon the entrance of Blissey, Snorlax, or Tyranitar. It can also pivot to Moltres or Charizard in anticipation of Metagross. Calm Mind + Baton Pass Celebi is particularly synergistic with Regice; Celebi acts as a secondary special check against Zapdos, Starmie, and Suicune and can pass boosts to Regice to really press Blissey or Snorlax to come in. Giga Drain and Hidden Power Fire are also great for chunking Tyranitar and Metagross, and it helps that these Pokemon are frequently very willing to stay in on Celebi to hit it back with Hidden Power Bug or Meteor Mash.
