Good physical bulk, solid Attack, and plenty of utility make Sandslash an excellent hazard remover and role compressor. Knock Off deters spinblockers like Trevenant, nails Mesprit, and punishes Ground-immune Pokemon like Vikavolt, Charizard, and Orthworm. Knock Off's item removal helps soften up Hattrem and renders Heavy-Duty Boots users like Charizard, Beartic, and Arboliva vulnerable to hazards set by Sandslash or its teammates. Sandslash is a solid hazard setter itself thanks to its good bulk and opportunities to set up against Rock-types like Naclstack and Regirock, Choice item Electric-types like Jolteon, and Poison-types like Muk and Hisuian Sneasel. Stealth Rock is more useful than Spikes for hitting all non-Heavy-Duty Boots users, and it targets Ground-immune Pokemon like Mesprit and Vikavolt that try to take advantage of Sandslash. If one of Sandslash's teammates runs Stealth Rock instead, then it can use Spikes to wear down foes like Dipplin and Orthworm. Alternatively, Gunk Shot makes Sandslash much less passive against Grass-types like Lurantis, Arboliva, and Virizion. Heavy-Duty Boots keep Sandslash from being worn down by the hazards it's frequently tasked with removing. For alternative utility, Sandslash can hold Rocky Helmet to chip away at contact move users like Mesprit and Toxicroak that may use Knock Off to remove Sandslash's item anyway. Leftovers is Sandslash's only option for recovery, and the healing is nice against passive foes like Regirock and Naclstack. Tera Ghost enables Sandslash to spinblock for itself, and the Fighting immunity is a nice perk against Fighting-types like Toxicroak and Hisuian Sneasel, Lycanroc's Close Combat, and Body Press users like Regirock and Orthworm. Alterantively, the Grass and Fairy resistances provided by Tera Poison improve Sandslash's matchups against threats like Choice Specs Jolteon and Whimsicott, and Gunk Shot variants have a strong Poison-type move to capitalize on Tera Poison. Tera Poison Sandslash becomes even better as a spinner by absorbing Toxic Spikes, and its matchup against Virizion and other Grass-types become even better. Sandslash's access to Rapid Spin earns it a spot on many styles of teams thanks to the utility it provides. Defensive Pokemon that rely on items other than Heavy-Duty Boots, including Regirock, Orthworm, and Dipplin all appreciate Sandslash spinning to keep them from being worn down. Whiscash enjoys being able to run items other than Heavy-Duty Boots, Poliwrath depends on Leftovers for recovery, and both of them can handle Water-types like Clawitzer for Sandslash. Rock-weak offensive Pokemon like Belly Drum Charizard, Choice Band Sneasel, and Minior all depend on Sandslash to keep Stealth Rock out of the picture. Pivots like Magneton, Vikavolt, and Jolteon appreciate Sandslash removing hazards to reduce the residual damage they take from constantly pivoting, earning Sandslash a spot on VoltTurn teams. Knock Off users like Toxicroak and Mesprit can help remove Heavy-Duty Boots from foes to maximize the impact of Sandslash's hazards. Typhlosion relies on being in pristine condition to maximize Eruption's power, so it's another beneficiary of Sandslash as a spinner. Sandslash's ability to remove hazards without removing Aurora Veil puts it ahead of Defog users for pairing with Abomasnow, and Abomasnow itself can disrupt troublesome Grass-types like Arboliva and Dipplin for Sandslash. Hattrem can deter entry hazards to relieve Sandslash of some of its duty as a remover and enable it to work more as a hazard setter, and Hattrem appreciates being able to fall back on Sandslash in the event that it cannot deter hazards. Other hazard setters like Mesprit and Weezing can create hazard stacking cores with Sandslash, and Sandslash's Rapid Spin doesn't remove its own team's hazards. Sandslash's Spikes can wear down defensive walls like Whiscash, Regirock, and Orthworm that lack recovery, which can ease sweeping attempts by setup users like Mesprit and Jolteon. Spinblockers like Trevenant and Spiritomb can ensure that Sandslash's own hazards remain on the field. Sandslash depends greatly on its teammates to answer the Grass-types like Arboliva and Dipplin it invites in, so Pokemon like Whimsicott, Hisuian Sneasel, and Articuno make great partners to Sandslash. Sandslash's own Grass-type partners, including ones like Virizion and Venusaur, appreciate its ability to defensively answer Poison-types like Weezing and Muk. Variants of Sandslash that lack Heavy-Duty Boots become vulnerable to Toxic Spikes, making grounded Poison-types like Hisuian Sneasel and Muk even better teammates than usual.

Sandslash is potent wallbreaker thanks to its decent bulk and good defensive typing that create opportunities for it to set up with Swords Dance and open holes in teams with its great offensive coverage and blistering Speed under sand. Knock Off is Sandslash's best blanket coverage move for complementing Earthquake, and it's especially helpful against the most common Ground-immune Pokemon in the tier, Mesprit. Gunk Shot covers Grass-types like Arboliva, Whimsicott, and Virizion that could otherwise switch into Sandslash. However, Leech Life is another option for a coverage move against Grass-types like Arboliva that provides Sandslash with improved consistency and some recovery. It's possible to concede coverage moves to run Rapid Spin for some role compression in Sandslash's last moveslot, and the Speed boost lets Sandslash outspeed threats with middling Speed like Mesprit and Magneton when sand runs out, but forgoing other coverage moves leaves Sandslash quite helpless against Grass-types like Dipplin and Arboliva. Stone Edge is one last coverage option, and it improves Sandslash's matchups against Vikavolt and Flying-types like Charizard at the cost of hurting it in others against Virizion and other Grass-types. Equipping Sandslash with a Life Orb makes it even more threatening, and Sandslash can make good use of the extra power for sweeping with sand support on sand teams. However, Heavy-Duty Boots makes Sandslash a more reliable support Pokemon on sand teams if it runs Rapid Spin. Investing 128 EVs into Sandslash's Speed helps it to get the jump on uninvested base 80 Speed Pokemon like Mesprit before any Speed boosts; with a boost from Sand Rush or two uses of Rapid Spin, Sandslash will outspeed Jolteon and the rest of the unboosted metagame. With Tera Dark, Sandslash becomes immune to Prankster-boosted moves from Sableye and Grafaiai, enabling it to freely set up with Swords Dance without fear of Will-O-Wisp or Encore. Additionally, the immunity and resistances provided by Tera Dark can be useful for tanking Psychic- and Dark-type attacks from foes like Farigiraf and Alolan Persian. Lastly, Tera Dark boosts the power of Knock Off, helping Sandslash to secure KOs more easily against threats like Vikavolt, Trevenant, and Minior. Alternatively, Sandslash can use Tera Poison to power up Gunk Shot and flip its Grass weakness into a resistance. Tera Bug functions similarly to Tera Poison by powering up Sandslash's coverage move, Leech Life, and granting it a Grass resistance. Swords Dance Sandslash overwhelmingly depends on support from Hippopotas to function as a sweeper, and it's capable of compressing utility onto these more offensive teams thanks to its access to Knock Off and Rapid Spin. Other offensive threats on sand teams, including Lycanroc, Minior, and Probopass, can team up with Sandslash to overwhelm defensive cores that include Mesprit, Regirock, and Whiscash so that one of them can break through. Healing Wish users like Mesprit and Hattrem can support Sandslash by giving it a second attempt at sweeping, and Sandslash especially appreciates having this support to fall back on if it's statused or opts to run Life Orb. Grass-types are a major obstacle for Sandslash, but Lilligant is capable of using many as setup fodder with Quiver Dance. Whimsicott is another potential partner for Sandslash that can deal with problematic Grass-types like Dipplin and Virizion. Slow pivots like Magneton and Mesprit are greatly appreciated by Sandslash for getting it in safely.

Set Details With this set, +2 Earthquake can KO even bulky threats like Vaporeon, Sylveon, and Escavalier after Stealth Rock. Knock Off targets Decidueye and Dhelmise while crippling switch-ins like Vaporeon and Tsareena. Alternatively, Leech Life has a good chance to OHKO Rotom-C after Stealth Rock and 2HKOes Tsareena. Lum Berry can be run instead to use status users like Talonflame, Mudsdale, and defensive Guzzlord as setup fodder, though without Life Orb, Sandslash loses much of its OHKO potential. Gigalith is a necessary teammate for Sandslash to use Sand Rush and effectively sweep or wallbreak. Lycanroc can work alongside Sandslash to overwhelm the opposition, with both capitalizing on the sand turns Gigalith provides. Pivots like Alolan Exeggutor and Rotom-C help Sandslash get on the field more safely; Alolan Exeggutor also covers Sandslash's vulnerability to Grass- and Water-type attacks, while Rotom-C applies additional pressure to Ground- and Water-types. Starmie can provide reliable entry hazard removal with Rapid Spin and switch into Water- and Ice-type attacks as well.

戰術分析
Knock Off makes typical Sandslash switch-ins like Eldegoss and Wishiwashi more susceptible to residual damage, including Sandslash's own Spikes, by removing their Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers and discouraging spinblockers like Trevenant from switching in. Spikes are chosen to wear down grounded targets, forming an entry hazard-stacking core with Gigalith. If you choose to not use Gigalith, Stealth Rock is a viable option. Leftovers give Sandslash a bit of passive recovery, improving its longevity. Heavy-Duty Boots is an alternative that protects Sandslash from entry hazards, particularly Toxic Spikes. Sandslash's EV spread is quite flexible and it can easily run some Speed investment to outpace certain threats according to its team's needs. One of the possibilities is a spread of 248 HP / 124 Def / 136 Spe to outpace Adamant Perrserker outside of sand, while outspeeding Jolteon in sand. Although this set does not necessarily require sand in order to function, Gigalith is still recommended. With a Sand Rush boost, Sandslash is far less passive, and it can be situationally used to revenge kill Pokemon like Magmortar. Gigalith can also take care of most special attackers, including Charizard and Ribombee. Pokemon that can switch into bulky Grass- and Water-types are necessary, as these will often come in on Sandslash to remove its Spikes, block Rapid Spin, or gain momentum. Weezing is a solid switch-in to Grass-types and can help wear down the opposition with Toxic Spikes. Eldegoss can deal with most Water-types and provide cleric support. Running Eldegoss along with Sandslash also allows you to free up a moveslot that is typically occupied by Rapid Spin on either of the two Pokemon. Wallbreakers like Magneton and Galarian Articuno can take advantage of the likes of Eldegoss and Weezing. Doublade has good typing synergy with both Sandslash and Gigalith, can effectively spinblock and, as a late-game sweeper, benefits from Spikes wearing down its checks.

Most Rock-weak Ground-resistant Pokemon like Ribombee, Charizard, and Archeops are already OHKOed by Rock Slide; as such, it is preferred over the stronger, but less accurate Stone Edge. Stone Edge can still be used to deal more damage to neutral targets when not running Leech Life or Poison Jab. After using Swords Dance, Leech Life in conjunction with Life Orb allows Sandslash to OHKO Eldegoss. It also allows Sandslash to threaten Tangela. With Knock Off, Sandslash can OHKO Trevenant and weaken Pokémon that wall it, namely Levitate Weezing, Quagsire, and Tangela. Sandslash can perform as an effective offensive spinner. Rapid Spin is also useful for boosting its Speed outside of sand. Instead of Leech Life, Poison Jab can be used to OHKO defensive Whimsicott. Life Orb is the most powerful choice of an item for a dedicated sweeper set, notably allowing Sandslash to OHKO Eldegoss. Leftovers and Heavy-Duty Boots can be used to improve Sandslash's longevity instead, particularly if an utility move is chosen as the last moveslot. A Jolly Nature can be considered to outspeed Choice Scarf Togedemaru and a few other uncommon Choice Scarf users like Gourgeist-S in sand, and Modest Magneton when unboosted, but this is typically not worth the drop in power. Swords Dance Sandslash should be ran with Gigalith, as it is the only viable sand setter in the tier. Spikes or Toxic Spikes support from the likes of Ferroseed, Weezing, or Qwilfish is appreciated to help Sandslash break through physically defensive walls like Sandaconda, Jellicent, and Wishiwashi. Ribombee and Whimsicott are useful utility Pokemon that can use U-turn to bring Sandslash safely into their typical Steel- and Rock-type switch-ins, like Togedemaru, Aggron, and Gigalith. Galarian Articuno and Vikavolt can switch in on Grass-types that check Sandslash and fire off powerful attacks or pivot with U-turn and Volt Switch, respectively. Charizard is a great Gigalith magnet that also counters most Grass-types and wears down Wishiwashi and Jellicent with Toxic. Wallbreakers like Gallade can weaken walls like Tangela, while Sandslash itself can benefit sweepers such as Doublade, dealing heavy damage to their shared checks.

This set allows Sandslash to do its job as an entry hazard remover while allowing it to either spread status or set Stealth Rock. It also allows Sandslash to hit Ghost-types with Knock Off, which are a common switch-in to block Rapid Spin. However, Sandslash still finds itself outclassed by Alolan Sandslash, as it has the benefit of its typing, good bulk, and having great matchups against Pokemon like Aurorus and Oricorio-E lacking Hidden Power Fighting. Hitmonchan is also a superior spinner due to its typing, and it has more moveset flexibility than Sandslash.

Moves Rapid Spin allows Sandslash to remove entry hazards from its side of the field. Earthquake allows Sandslash to threaten Pokemon such as Electivire, Golem, Rapidash, and Muk. Knock Off provides Sandslash with a way to chip switch-ins as well as threaten spinblockers such as Dusclops and Misdreavus. Additionally, it allows Sandslash to remove important items from Pokemon that check it such as Bronzor's Eviolite and Poliwrath's Leftovers. If the team already has a Stealth Rock user or Knock Off support, Toxic can be used to wear down common switch-ins such as Gourgeist-XL and several Silvally formes. Set Details Figy Berry provides Sandslash with a one-time recovery option that can increase its survivability and allows it to stay in on physical attackers like Electivire without crippled by Ice Punch while also improving its matchup against other physical attackers like Swords Dance Combusken. Alternatively, Leftovers provide Sandslash with passive recovery, which somewhat negates the damage it takes when switching into entry hazards in order to use Rapid Spin and serves Sandslash better against slower teams. Maximum HP investment is essential for allowing Sandslash to remove entry hazards as effectively as possible. In order to outspeed Golem, the most common Stealth Rock user in ZU, Sandslash requires 96 Speed EVs. Lastly, 160 Defense EVs grant Sandslash greater bulk so it can remain unthreatened by physical Pokemon that it's trying to check. Usage Tips Sandslash's main role is to remove entry hazards, so it should come in on Pokemon that set them like Golem, Crustle, and Carbink. Sandslash should prioritize setting Stealth Rock on physical Pokemon it is able to wall such as Crustle, Electivire, and Mawile. Leftovers is Sandslash’s main form of recovery, so Sandslash should avoid being hit with Knock Off. In the same vein, Sandslash should not repeatedly switch into physical attackers such as Rapidash and Golem because of how easy it is to wear down. Sandslash should also be wary of special coverage moves such as Ice Beam on Kecleon and Silvally-Fighting due to its lackluster Special Defense. If using Toxic, Sandslash should try to cripple common switch-ins such as Gourgeist-XL, Poliwrath, and Silvally formes that may try to use Defog. Sandslash should avoid becoming crippled with status from Pokemon such as Golem, Mawile, Rapidash, and Bronzor, as this greatly reduces its ability to remove hazards. Team Options Sandslash fits best on balance or bulky offense teams that lack entry hazard support or a dedicated remover. Thus, Pokemon that are weak to entry hazards such as Swanna, Combusken, and Pinsir all pair well with Sandslash, as do Pokemon that appreciate Stealth Rock support such as Exeggutor, Swanna, and Toucannon. These Pokemon also appreciate Sandslash's ability to check Rapidash, Electivire, and Muk. Due to Sandslash's poor Special Defense stat, it pairs well with Pokemon that wall special attackers, such as Lickilicky, Komala, Kecleon, Bronzor, and Muk. Lickilicky and Komala are worth a special mention because of their access to Wish. Pokemon that can absorb or remove status effects for Sandslash such as Komala, Heal Bell Lickilicky, and Guts Machoke make particularly effective partners. Ghost-type Pokemon such as Gourgeist-XL and Dusclops are able to block Sandslash from removing hazards; wallbreakers that can remove these Ghost-types include Exeggutor, Swanna, and Simipour. Sandslash is threatened by Grass-types such as Exeggutor, Leafeon, and Shiinotic, so Pokemon that check them such as Rapidash, Combusken, and Swanna make for great partners. Torterra is an especially notable Grass-type, as it's one of the few Stealth Rock users that Sandslash is unable to check. Pokemon like Toucannon that can handle Torterra make for ideal partners as a result. This is also true of Bronzor, especially if Knock Off is not being run. Lastly, Sandslash appreciates Pokemon that can check prominent Water-types that threaten it such as Swanna and Silvally-Water. Electivire is the most notable, as it checks both of these Pokemon, while Sandslash is able to check Golem for Electivire in return.

Set Information Stealth Rock is important for every team, and Sandslash is a reliable setter of the entry hazard thanks to its great physical bulk. Earthquake is a reliable STAB move that hits Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Alolan Muk very hard. Rock Slide gives Sandslash great neutral coverage with its STAB Earthquake, hitting Pokemon like Dragonite, Zapdos, and Mega Charizard Y for super effective damage. Toxic allows Sandslash to cripple Pokemon that would otherwise take it on, like Starmie, Mew, and Reflect Zapdos. An Impish nature is chosen over Adamant to give Sandslash an easier time switching into the likes of Rhydon and Mega Beedrill. Usage Tips Sandslash can come in on Pokemon like Mega Aerodactyl and Rhydon to try to find opportunities to set up Stealth Rock. Toxic should be used liberally early-game to cripple Sandslash's main checks like Mew and Starmie. Once Sandslash has managed to set up Stealth Rock, it can start throwing off attacks to weaken switch-ins like Poliwrath, Mega Gyarados, and Zapdos. Team Options Pokemon that can deal with bulky Water-types and Mew are important teammates, as Sandslash can't get through them on its own. Zapdos is a good teammate that can easily muscle past Pokemon like Starmie, Poliwrath, and Mega Gyarados, and it appreciates the support Sandslash's Stealth Rock provides as well as its ability to check Mega Aerodactyl. Alolan Muk can check Psychic-types like Mega Alakazam, Starmie, and Mew for Sandslash, and it enjoys Sandslash's ability to handle Pokemon like Mega Aerodactyl and Alolan Dugtrio. Mew is a great teammate that can check many Pokemon Sandslash struggles with Pokemon like Mega Venusaur and Starmie; Mega Venusaur can also check Water-types, but it has trouble with Starmie and Mew. Melmetal can check Pokemon like Mega Alakazam for Sandslash and spread paralysis, giving Sandslash an easier time against fast Pokemon like both Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y.

Moves Earthquake is Sandslash's STAB attack and cleaning tool, giving Sandslash very reliable damage output. Stone Edge lets Sandslash beat down Flying-types such as Charizard, Archeops, and Scyther while also allowing it to 2HKO Colbur Berry Xatu. Knock Off hits Ghost-types looking to block Rapid Spin and is a good coverage move in general due to its decent neutral coverage with Ground as well as its disruptive item removal effect. Swords Dance bolsters Sandslash's power and greatly improves its sweeping potential as well as its ability to punch holes into bulkier Pokemon, particularly by beating down the frailer Colbur Berry spinblockers with +2 Knock Off. Rapid Spin is a good option if Sandslash's team has many alternative sweepers, as it clears the field of entry hazards, particularly Toxic Spikes, which can be dangerous for its teammates. Set Details Maximum Attack investment maximizes Sandslash's damage output, enhancing its sweeping ability with Sand Rush. Maximum Speed investment and a Jolly nature allow Sandslash to outrun base 95 Speed Choice Scarf users such as Jynx, Haunter, and Primeape, as well as +2 Speed Adamant Barbaracle, after the Sand Rush boost. When outside of sand, Sandslash can outrun Hasty Abomasnow and neutral-natured Samurott and Ludicolo, as well as Speed tie with offensive Adamant Hitmonchan. An Adamant nature can be used for more power in exchange for failing to outspeed the likes of Choice Scarf Rotom, Jynx, Haunter and +2 Barbaracle. Sandslash can adopt an alternative bulkier spread, incorporating maximum Attack investment alongside an Adamant nature, 136 Speed EVs, and the remaining EVs into HP. This gives Sandslash more opportunities to set up Swords Dance and sweep while still allowing it to naturally outrun Adamant Aggron and outspeed up to Swellow with the aid of Sand Rush. Life Orb maximizes Sandslash's power and KO potential, but Earth Plate can be considered so Sandslash doesn't incur recoil damage, especially when using Rapid Spin. Usage Tips Sandslash should aim to sweep with Earthquakes, preferably Swords Dance-boosted ones, after the opposing team has been sufficiently weakened mid- to late-game. Sandslash can also throw out Earthquakes to weaken or take out bulky Rock- and Steel-types early-game if a Swords Dance boost isn't necessary, and it helps to maintain offensive presence as well as support Stoutland. It can gain Swords Dance opportunities by scaring out Pokemon it can OHKO, such as Pyroar, Magmortar, Garbodor, Skuntank, and Aggron, or against Pokemon that aren't strong enough to threaten it, such as Steelix, Regirock, and Clefairy. Sandslash can also be brought in directly on the likes of Regirock and non-Grass move Garbodor to start attacking or setting up. Sandslash can also use Rapid Spin if entry hazards need to be cleared to ease switching. Because spinning isn't a particularly high priority for Sandslash, the Sandslash user can afford to bluff the spin and lure in the opponent's spinblocker to get free turns or attacks off. Team Options Smooth Rock Hippopotas is absolutely mandatory as a teammate, as Sandslash badly needs Sand Rush active in order to function adequately. Stoutland is an important partner for Sandslash as well, as they complement each other well offensively and form a powerful, speedy core, with Stoutland functioning as the immediate holepuncher among the duo. Mesprit can be a very appealing teammate, as it has the bulk and Speed to be able to perform supportive roles such as Stealth Rock and Healing Wish, as well as being a switch-in for Fighting- and Ground-type attacks. Though novel, Mesprit can even act as a backup Sandstorm setter with Smooth Rock. Teammates that can deal with Pokemon that Sandslash, and by extension Stoutland, have difficulty breaking through are recommended. Powerful wallbreakers such as Magmortar, Charizard, Aurorus, Jynx, Shiftry, Will-O-Wisp + Hex Rotom, and Haunter can pummel the likes of Weezing, Gourgeist-XL, and Pelipper, while Sandslash can provide Rapid Spin support for most of these wallbreakers, which are weak to Stealth Rock. Aurorus even receives a Special Defense boost from sand, though it must obviously forgo Snow Warning. Attackers that resist Sandslash's weaknesses to Grass, Ice, and Water, or simply can help take special attacks for it, are especially notable partners.

This is Sandslash's best bet at accomplishing anything in RU. While Kabutops and Cryogonal are significantly better choices on a vast majority of teams, Sandslash aims to be used sparingly, enduring physical hits while using Rapid Spin when it's necessary. It also serves as an emergency check to physical sweepers at full health, and it doesn't have a Volt Switch or Stealth Rock weakness, unlike Kabutops and Cryogonal. Rapid Spin is the sole reason Sandslash should be used, and as such, it finds itself a spot in this set, allowing Sandslash to remove entry hazards that may cripple its team. Earthquake serves as a powerful and reliable STAB move for Sandslash to hit fairly hard with, especially against Spiritomb. Be wary though, Sandslash can potentially lure in Grass-types, such as Sceptile, Lilligant, and Rotom-C, that will easily score a KO. Stone Edge provides good coverage alongside Earthquake, while Night Slash allows Sandslash to also nail Rotom and Misdreavus. Swords Dance is useful because it allows Sandslash to handle Pokemon such as Spiritomb, Rotom, and Misdreavus more effectively. Stealth Rock is another option for the final moveslot, as it enables Sandslash to provide extra support for its team. The EV spread gives Sandslash enough power to 2HKO standard Spiritomb while 3HKOing defensive variants, both after Stealth Rock, while the Speed EVs allow Sandslash to outspeed minimum Speed Lanturn. A Lum Berry is the preferred item, allowing Sandslash to bypass status conditions from opposing Pokemon once. Leftovers, however, is useful for recovery, although this leaves Sandslash prone to being burned by Ghost-types. An Adamant nature is chosen to further enhance Sandslash's Attack, allowing it to beat Spiritomb. Toxic is a viable option in the last slot to wear down Alomomola and Poliwrath while crippling incoming spinblockers. Aside from Spiritomb, Absol can Pursuit trap opposing Ghost-types; this is quite useful as Sandslash is helpless against the majority of them. Sandslash also needs Wish support to keep it from being worn out; Alomomola and Clefable are both viable options to this end. Sandslash also needs a cleric such as Clefable, Misdreavus, or Roselia if it isn't using a Lum Berry. Roselia can also take Water- and Grass-type moves aimed at Sandslash. Sandslash also appreciates Pokemon that can take on Grass-types as it is typically helpless against them. Emboar, Roselia, Druddigon, and Scolipede are all very good options for this. Pokemon that appreciate Rapid Spin support, such as Moltres and Scyther, are good partners for Sandslash as well. All things considered, supporting Sandslash is probably more trouble than it's worth.

Set Description Shadow Claw provides coverage for Ghost-types like Drifblim and Haunter that would otherwise try to spinblock Sandslash, preventing them from gaining free Substitutes. Stone Edge is an alternative move that hits Drifblim harder and is Sandslash's best move to consistently OHKO Charizard and hit Articuno very hard as well. Stealth Rock allows Sandslash to compress roles alongside being a Rapid Spinner, gaining safe opportunities to use it against Regirock and Skuntank. Toxic can be used with another Stealth Rock setter to hinder the longevity of bulky Pokemon like Slowking, Cradily, Dusclops, and Meganium that can sit on Sandslash. This provides great synergy with Earthquake, as Sandslash can threaten Toxic-immune Pokemon such as Skuntank, Nidoqueen, and Magneton. The given EV spread maximizes Sandslash's ability to take on physical attackers, but 92 Speed EVs can be used to outspeed uninvested Nidoqueen and pressure it. Team Options Although Sandslash can compete with Hitmonchan as a Rapid Spin user due to the latter's greater offensive presence and priority, having Sandslash as a teammate means Hitmonchan can forgo using Rapid Spin in favor of better coverage and greater offensive potential, making up for Sandslash's passivity. Medicham is also a strong Fighting-type wallbreaker that can be used on teams using Sandslash as a Rapid Spin user instead of Hitmonchan, avoiding the shared Fighting typing. Sandslash is a great fit on Charizard teams, as Charizard loves the fact that Sandslash can reliably switch in and use Rapid Spin against Regirock to mitigate its Stealth Rock weakness while also providing Stealth Rock support. In turn, Charizard helps against Grass-types that would give Sandslash trouble and can lure Slowking with Substitute + Toxic or Hidden Power Grass. Since Sandslash has trouble with spinblockers and Slowking, Pursuit support from Skuntank is very beneficial. Skuntank is also helpful against Pokemon that can threaten Sandslash, such as Vileplume, Cacturne, Shiftry, and Jynx. If Sandslash opts to run Toxic over Stealth Rock, it appreciates another user of Stealth Rock such as Regirock or Cradliy, both of which provide a solid defensive backbone against Tauros, Charizard, and Drifbllim. Since Sandslash is vulnerable to Toxic from Regirock and Tauros, and Will-O-Wisp from Dusclops, it appreciates cleric support from Lickilicky, Articuno, and Meganium on stall teams to increase its longevity. Lickilicky also comes packed with Wish support to give Sandslash a way to recover damage outside of Leftovers, while Sandslash helps with Lickilicky's vulnerability to entry hazards.

Sandslash can put his good defenses to use by serving as a solid Ground-type support Pokemon. Not only is Sandslash capable of removing entry hazards, but his above-average physical bulk allows him to check prominent physical sweepers such as Rhyperior, Swords Dance Toxicroak, and Hitmonlee. Stealth Rock provides immediate support for the team, aiding your team's sweepers with much appreciated residual damage. Rapid Spin helps Sandslash's teammates preserve their health by clearing away entry hazards. Earthquake is his main STAB attack and is at least strong enough to noticeably hurt frail Pokemon. Access to Night Slash makes it somewhat difficult for Ghost-types to block Sandslash's Rapid Spin, as Night Slash hits Rotom and Mismagius hard even with no EV investment in Attack. You can replace Night Slash with Stone Edge so that Sandslash can better deal with powerful Flying-types who would otherwise easily switch into him. Unfortunately, replacing Night Slash removes one of Sandslash's niche advantages over Donphan: the advantage of being able to reliably hit Levitating Ghost- and Psychic-types for super effective damage. An alternative EV spread of 252 HP / 204 Def / 32 SpD / 20 Spe can be used in order for Sandslash to outrun any Lanturn who does not invest in Speed, survive a Surf, and 2HKO back with Earthquake. Sandslash pairs up well with bulky Water- and Grass-types like Milotic and Venusaur, as they can take incoming Water- and Ice-type attacks and Grass-type attacks respectively. Moltres is also a good partner, as it appreciates the removal of Stealth Rock and threatens Grass-types with its STAB moves. Wish support is also helpful for this Sandslash, as without a reliable way to restore his HP, he will be worn out quickly. Leafeon, Clefable, and Chansey are great examples of Wish users who have decent synergy with Sandslash. Although he shares an Ice weakness, Leafeon has the advantage of attacking Water-types for super effective damage. Clefable and Chansey have Thunder Wave to slow down faster threats for Sandslash to outspeed.

Sandslash's unique access to both Swords Dance and Rapid Spin helps him differentiate himself from Donphan as a bulky Ground-type Rapid Spinner. Sandslash is typically used as a physical wall and spinner, acting similarly to Donphan but having the ability to go on the offensive at any given time. Swords Dance boosts Sandslash's already decent Attack stat to powerful levels, making him capable of doing some serious damage to even the bulkiest of walls. Rapid Spin allows Sandslash to remove entry hazards on his side of the field, which greatly aids his team. Earthquake is his primary STAB move and deals solid damage after a Swords Dance boost, even without an Attack-boosting item; Earthquake cleanly OHKOes standard Registeel and, with a little residual damage, OHKOes Steelix and defensively oriented Rhyperior as well. Night Slash is useful for dealing with Ghost-type Pokemon who attempt to block Sandslash's Rapid Spin. After a Swords Dance, even the bulkiest Rotom sets are OHKOed by +2 Night Slash. Stone Edge, on the other hand, is useful for taking out Flying-type Pokemon who attempt to switch into Earthquake. Leftovers is the item of choice since it gives Sandslash significantly more staying power, but Lum Berry is useful for avoiding status momentarily and allows Sandslash to consistently beat bulky Ghost-types who attempt to cripple him with Will-O-Wisp. An alternative EV Spread of 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def with an Impish nature may be used for a weaker but bulkier Sandslash. By doing so, Sandslash may gain more chances of setting up Swords Dance, which could either help negate the power lost or make Sandslash even stronger than before. Sandslash is easily countered by bulky Water-types like Milotic and Slowbro, as they can easily take a boosted Earthquake and OHKO Sandslash in return with their STAB Water-type moves. A bulky Grass-type is an effective partner for dealing with the aforementioned threats, so pairing Sandslash with Venusaur or Torterra is recommended. Strong special attackers like Moltres have an easy time switching into Sandslash on a Swords Dance, Earthquake, or Rapid Spin and obliterating him with powerful STAB attacks. Chansey can help safeguard against special attackers with her incredible special bulk while also paralyzing them with Thunder Wave. Grass-types can deal with Sandslash without much trouble as they resist Earthquake, allowing them to freely set up on him. Torterra and Leafeon can either destroy Sandslash with their STAB moves of choice or set up with Rock Polish or Swords Dance, respectively. Weezing can also switch in with ease and threaten Sandslash with Will-O-Wisp. Moltres himself is a fine partner to Sandslash, as it can switch into most Grass-types and Weezing easily, and roast them with STAB Fire Blast, while Sandslash can return the favor by removing Stealth Rock from the field with Rapid Spin.

戰術分析
Despite facing serious competition from other Ground-type Sword Dancers, Sandslash is able to set himself apart due to Sand Veil. The evasion boost from Sand Veil is highly important to his success, as it gives him the ability to beat his counters by potentially avoiding attacks that would otherwise be fatal. Swords Dance increases Sandslash's Attack to an impressive 656, which allows him to 2HKO all of his counters and become a significant threat to the opposing team. Earthquake is the bread and butter STAB attack of choice that deals amazing damage to any Pokemon not resistant or immune to it. Stone Edge is an excellent coverage move when paired alongside Earthquake, as it gives Sandslash a way to deal with troublesome Flying-types and Levitating Pokemon. Substitute is highly important to this set's success, as it lets Sandslash scout for his counters and gives him an opportunity to dodge an incoming attack without risking his own life if he fails. If Sandslash succeeds in dodging his counter's attack, then he can freely set up a Swords Dance. Bright Powder is the main item on this set, as it goes hand in hand with Sand Veil. The combined evasion boosts give Sandslash a 28% chance to dodge incoming attacks, and that's just against those with otherwise perfect accuracy. The evasion boost is compounded even further versus attacks with less than perfect accuracy, such as Power Whip and Will-O-Wisp. Leftovers can be used if you want a bulkier Sandslash, and it's useful for healing HP lost from Substitute. The EVs are pretty straightforward: 252 Atk EVs and an Adamant nature are used for maximum power, 212 Speed EVs are used to outspeed nearly all defensive variants of Milotic, and the rest is dumped into HP for more bulk. This set absolutely requires Hippopotas support to provide permanent sandstorm in order to function. Despite the rather large evasion boost, keep in mind that bulky Water- and Grass-types are still effective counters to Sandslash 72% of time. Weezing is also a pain for Sandslash to deal with if he is carrying Flamethrower or Fire Blast. Should a counter switch into Sandslash while he is behind a Substitute, Sandslash can opt to Substitute again to increase the odds of the opposing Pokemon eventually missing. Conventional Weezing counters like Houndoom and Moltres are not as effective with this set, as sandstorm adds unwanted residual damage and limits their effectiveness. Cradily is an excellent partner to Sandslash, as it receives a sizable Special Defense boost in sandstorm and is capable of beating both bulky Water- and Grass types. As a bonus, Cradily is capable of taking on Moltres, who otherwise threatens to OHKO Sandslash. Excessive use of Substitute will quickly wear out Sandslash, so pairing Sandslash with a Wish user is recommended in order to replenish lost HP. Clefable, Chansey, and Leafeon are all recommended due to their ability to deal with some of Sandslash's counters. Clefable stands out as the only Pokemon of the aforementioned three whom is immune to sandstorm, and she is also capable of dealing with most of the above threats with ease.

戰術分析
This set is designed to specifically counter some of the biggest threats in the UU metagame, while still being able to get most of the 2HKOs and OHKOs that it needs to. Counter is a great addition to the sweeper set, as it allows Sandslash to destroy many of the Grass-type Pokemon which normally stop it, since their strongest move is Hidden Power Grass, which can be Countered. The basic strategy is to bring Sandslash in on a weak physical attack such as Rock Slide, or any Electric attack. Swords Dance on the switch and then start sweeping. This set allows you to take out Blastoise, Walrein, and Meganium - all common switch-ins to Sandslash -and continue sweeping what you can. Greedy Gligars also get taken out it they try to KO with only +2 or +4 Atk (depending on EVs and nature of the Gligar). Another bonus is that with the 252 HP EVs, and 36 SpD EVs you always survive various STAB Surfs and Ice Beams, while being faster and being able to 2HKO. For example, you can Swords Dance on your opponent's switch to Walrein or Blastoise, and then hit it for a 2HKO with Rock Slide (only on Walrein) or Earthquake, and live through the Surf / Ice Beam to hit them for the KO. Additionally, Sandslash will always survive a Timid Manectric's Hidden Power even after a Petaya boost, as well as almost always surviving a Timid Electabuzz's Ice Punch after a Petaya boost. Rock Slide is the preferred move in the 4th slot, because it has the flinch rate, and Sandslash is able to outspeed most walls. It also allows Sandslash to take out fliers and Levitators that would not take themselves out with Counter, such as Misdreavus and Xatu, but more importantly, Altaria (which is outsped by this variant of Sandslash, allowing you to Rock Slide and possibly flinch before you get hit with Haze or Perish Song). Furthermore, it helps with Scyther and Yanma, not allowing them to set up while you try to Counter. Hidden Power Bug hits Grass types that do not attack with Hidden Power Grass, such as Bellosom and Tangela, and can hit Meganium hard if it uses Light Screen or Leech Seed. Hidden Power Bug also hits Solrock / Lunatone for super effective damage. Hidden Power Ghost, on the other hand, hits not only the previously mentioned Lunatone / Solrock for super effective damage, but also Misdreavus and Xatu as well. Counter takes care of Fearow, so it is not a big trouble if it walls those two attacks. It should be noted, however, that Rock Slide does have lower accuracy than Hidden Power

Return helps to 2HKO most Gligar, but that's the only Pokemon it's hitting, so Rapid Spin is an option if you really want to get rid of Spikes. Don't use this set in OU, however, because Donphan outclasses it there.

This set is recommended for both standard and UU play. Sandslash is easy to bring in on physical attacks, preferably a Rock Slide so it can spare some health. Hit your counters on the switch: Earthquake for Waters like Milotic, Swampert, Suicune in standard or Quagsire and Blastoise in UU, and Hidden Power Bug for Celebi in standard and Solrock in UU. Take note of how much damage you do. When they take two more hits to finish off, Swords Dance on the switch, then take them out.

Swords Dance obviously gives Sandslash some more attacking power and the Earthquake + Rock Slide combo is a given. Substitute provides some more setup time for Sandslash. Its Speed is high enough to get a Substitute up before Exeggutor can hit Sandslash with Sleep Powder or Giga Drain, for example. This set works best with plenty of paralysis support from the rest of your team.

戰術分析
Set Description Earthquake is Sandslash's best STAB move and can hit Pokemon such as Nidoqueen, Ampharos, and Haunter for super effective damage. Rock Slide is mandatory for hitting Flying-types, such as Scyther, Dodrio, Gyarados, and Jumpluff, while also hitting Pinsir. Swords Dance lets Sandslash 2HKO almost the entire metagame after a single boost, notably including Slowbro and Granbull. Lastly, Substitute works especially well with paralysis support, letting Sandslash fish for full paralysis. It also works well against foes that might try to pivot around Sandslash's attacks, as well as Counter Gligar and Toxic Crobat. Substitute also improves Sandslash's odds of breaking through Water-types using Sleep Talk. Alternatively, Hidden Power Bug hits Bellossom, which otherwise is a great answer to Sandslash, but it is limited beyond that. Team Options Paralysis support is incredibly useful due to Sandslash's low Speed and benefit from a potential free setup turn, meaning Pokemon such as Jumpluff, Mr. Mime, and Hypno pair well with Sandslash. Jumpluff and Mr. Mime can both use Encore to let Sandslash switch in for free, and Hypno can support it with Light Screen and Reflect. Other setup sweepers such as Scyther, Pinsir, and Kabutops can be paired alongside Sandslash for an offensive assault that can be tough to wall for defensive teams, especially when supported by screens. Slowking, Chansey, and Hypno are useful teammates due to their good special bulk and ability to take Water-type attacks aimed at Sandslash. They also reinforce its strengths; Hypno and Slowking provide more consistency against Nidoqueen, and Chansey does the same against Electric-types. Scyther can support Sandslash by passing Swords Dance or Agility to it with Baton Pass. Electrode supports Sandslash well, as it can spread paralysis, set up screens, and use Explosion to provide Sandslash a free switch in. Bellossom can spread paralysis for Sandslash, sponge Water-type attacks, and notably lure in and paralyze Qwilfish. Ampharos can support Sandslash with screens or Thunder Wave and also switch into Water-types. Ampharos also lures in Nidoqueen, which can give Sandslash a setup opportunity if Nidoqueen lacks Lovely Kiss. Finally, Spikes support from Qwilfish maximizes the pressure that Sandslash exerts. Curse Qwilfish can also make progress against Blastoise if it tries to spin away Spikes.

戰術分析
Set Description Swords Dance is obligatory for Sandslash's niche. STAB Earthquake provides great neutral coverage and heavily chunks the majority of the metagame after a boost. If running Body Slam, Sandslash can use it into Hyper Beam for the best odds to 2HKO Exeggutor at +2, one of its advantages over Golem and Rhydon. Body Slam also allows Sandslash to fish for paralysis on its common switch-ins, which can help it or Tauros sweep late-game. Alternatively, Rock Slide can cover Flying-types and the rare Pinsir, but it's no stronger than Earthquake against Pokemon like Cloyster, Lapras, and Exeggutor. Furthermore, Body Slam into Hyper Beam still 2HKOes Zapdos at +2. Despite its poor accuracy, Submission allows Sandslash to secure an OHKO on Tauros at +4, which is important because Tauros can impede a Sandslash sweep; it also occasionally OHKOes Chansey at +2 and Snorlax at +4. Substitute can be used over a coverage move, as it can afford Sandslash a free turn against a paralyzed foe, though it can be difficult to set up. Substitute further amplifies Sandslash's unique ability among Swords Dance users to defeat Zapdos, as Drill Peck only breaks Substitute around 30% of the time, allowing Sandslash to safely set up and sweep more effectively. If not used in the third moveslot, Body Slam can also be used in exchange for Hyper Beam due to the danger of Sandslash needing to recharge. Sandslash can reliably check most Rock- and Electric-types, with the exception of Jolteon, but doing so will usually prevent it from sweeping late-game. Therefore, you must determine whether a trade or the potential for a sweep is more valuable. To stay healthy to sweep, Sandslash is best brought in on Thunder Wave, via partial-trapping pivots, or with double switches. It benefits from being hidden until late in the game when it is in a position to sweep. If Sandslash is forced onto the field before a sweep is likely, it should generally lead with Body Slam to chip and potentially paralyze its checks, as using Swords Dance is rarely useful before the opponent's team has been fully scouted. When saved until late in the game, Sandslash can greatly benefit from an opportunity to boost to +4, which allows Earthquake to secure OHKOs on Chansey and Starmie and OHKO Tauros a majority of the time. Additionally, +4 Hyper Beam OHKOes Zapdos about 60% of the time and Exeggutor about 40% of the time, limiting their ability to impede a sweep. Be aware that calculations for +4 Hyper Beam assume it hits and doesn't critically hit, a combined 78.09% chance, so it's riskier in practice. Sandslash is at its most dangerous with paralysis support, and it has good synergy with many paralysis spreaders, including Zapdos, Starmie, Snorlax, and Chansey. The offensive prowess of Zapdos and Starmie in particular often forces paralysis on the opponent's team, either neutralizing foes like Jynx, Alakazam, and opposing Starmie or providing setup opportunities against slower foes like Chansey, Snorlax and Exeggutor, which Sandslash enjoys coming in on. In return, Sandslash can set up and threaten the slow special tanks that limit them offensively, as well as effectively checking the Rock- and Electric- types that threaten them if a Sandslash sweep seems infeasible. Its reduced physical tanking capabilities versus Golem and Rhydon and weakness to Ice-type moves make Cloyster an ideal defensive partner, and Sandslash synergizes well by switching in on the Thunderbolts Cloyster draws in. Sandslash shares many switch-ins with Tauros, including Cloyster, Exeggutor, Slowbro, Snorlax, and Starmie; it often clears the way for a late-game Tauros sweep even if it cannot sweep. Lastly, Sandslash is prone to being crippled by Body Slam paralysis, so Reflect Snorlax can also be effective to block that paralysis and generally help with tanking physical hits despite its lower immediate physical bulk. In return, Sandslash threatens an immediate OHKO on Gengar and heavily pressures Golem and Rhydon, which can give mono-Normal attacking Snorlax sets issues. Snorlax is also invaluable for drawing in, pressuring, and paralyzing Cloyster throughout a match, which is essential to the success of Sandslash.
