Due to Weavile's subpar bulk, it appreciates Pokemon which can pivot into it to allow it opportunities to set up or deal damage, such as Landorus-T and Corviknight. While it can wear down most of its common checks like Buzzwole and Corviknight in the long term, a teammate which can force progress versus these checks such as Tapu Koko or Magnezone is valued. The latter in particular is an excellent teammate for Weavile, as it can trap and eliminate Steel-types Weavile struggles against while providing a slow Volt Switch to give Weavile more opportunities to come in. Pokemon that can provide entry hazard support like Ferrothorn and Heatran are great teammates for Weavile, giving it the ability to soften its checks faster and apply more pressure. Ice Shard lets Weavile pick off some weakened faster Pokemon in the tier, including setup sweepers like Zekrom and Zygarde. Pressure is useful to deplete the PP of common attacks, most notably Calyrex-S's Astral Barrage and Eternatus's Dynamax Cannon. Pickpocket can have situational utility after taking Yveltal's Knock Off, but Pressure is often more useful, especially since Pickpocket can give an item Weavile doesn't want like Choice Specs or Choice Scarf. A strong defensive backbone formed from Pokemon such as Latias, Slowbro, and Tangrowth is helpful to absorb the strong priority moves directed at Weavile such as Mach Punch and Extreme Speed. Magnezone, specifically, is a stellar partner, as it removes Steel-types such as Scizor and Skarmory, making Weavile much harder to deal with defensively. Other physical attackers such as Garchomp and Breloom work well with Weavile, as they can overwhelm their shared checks together.

With Choice Band, Weavile turns into an extremely threatening wallbreaker and cleaner for Dark teams. Triple Axel 2HKOes switch-ins such as Gastrodon, Celesteela, and Duraludon. Dragon Dance Tyranitar wears down Weavile's checks such as Celesteela and Toxapex, and it appreciates Weavile's ability to remove its checks like Landorus-T, Kommo-o, and Choice Scarf Galarian Zapdos. Alternatively, specially defensive Tyranitar supports Weavile by setting Stealth Rock, spreading paralysis, and checking special attackers such as Hatterene and Volcarona. Grimmsnarl facilitates Weavile's sweeps with dual screens. Choice Scarf Zarude checks threats such as Urshifu-R for Weavile, and it benefits from Weavile pressuring Zapdos, Mamoswine, and Celesteela, which lets Zarude better pressure types such as Electric, Ground, and Steel. Sableye provides a Fighting immunity, checks Iron Defense Kommo-o and Corviknight, and wears down the opposing team with Knock Off and Will-O-Wisp. Drapion sets Toxic Spikes, which wears down defensive Pokemon such as Gastrodon and Slowbro, and checks bulky setup sweepers such as Clefable and Hatterene.

Entry hazard setters like Cloyster, Piloswine, and Mamoswine are encouraged to help Weavile pick up KOs on defensive Pokemon like Slowbro and Heatran. Cloyster sets Spikes and Toxic Spikes, removes entry hazards, and wears down physical attackers like Melmetal, Urshifu-R, and Victini thanks to Rocky Helmet. Additionally, Cloyster's access to Teleport can bring Weavile in safely without sacking a Pokemon or making a prediction.

An Adamant nature further accentuates the wallbreaking capabilities that Weavile has, allowing it to always 2HKO specially defensive Heatran with Knock Off, but a Jolly nature allows it to outspeed Tornadus-T, Gengar, and Latios, which can otherwise survive an Ice Shard and revenge kill it. Jolly also lets it outspeed Cinderace to threaten it with Knock Off. Strong entry hazard control is important, but a majority of the Rapid Spin and Defog users like Clefable and Corviknight have low Attack, so while they are good partners for Low Kick sets, Beat Up sets would prefer options like Thundurus-T and Tornadus-T. Other high Attack Pokemon like Buzzwole and Rillaboom, which can also pivot, are strong partners to help wear down physical walls for each other.

Other Pokemon that work well as teammates are Water-types such as Blastoise and Tapu Fini that help deal with opposing Fire-types, as well as Fairy-type Pokemon like Tapu Fini and Togekiss to deal with Fighting-type Pokemon. Another solid teammate is Galarian Zapdos, which is able to clear out Rock- and Steel-types, as well as dissuade Intimidate users such as Incineroar. Due to Weavile's poor bulk and defensive typing, it is incredibly weak to Pokemon that outspeed it. Pokemon like Regieleki, Zeraora, and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele make it extremely difficult for Weavile to get any attacks off, so Weavile can also benefit from immediate Tailwind support from Talonflame, which can also help deal with Fire-, Steel-, and Fighting-type Pokemon, especially hitting Pheromosa with a priority Brave Bird thanks to Gale Wings.

Weavile's powerful STAB combination, coupled with a fearsome Attack stat and great Speed tier, allow it to function as a solid weapon against offensive teams. Weavile is also one of the few Pursuit trappers in the National Dex tier, and it sets itself apart from Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar due to its heightened Speed, allowing Weavile to fit on teams that are much more offensive than the bulky offense teams that Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar are found on. Triple Axel threatens to OHKO common offensive Pokemon like Kartana, Mega Latias, and Mega Charizard Y. Knock Off helps Weavile cripple its defensive answers such as Toxapex, Alomomola, and Tapu Fini while hitting offensive Pokemon like Mega Medicham and Aegislash rather hard. Additionally, Pursuit allows Weavile to trap Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokemon like Mega Latias, Reuniclus, and Gengar. Offensive Pokemon that Weavile forces out are also good Pursuit targets, such as Mega Medicham, Serperior, and Mega Charizard Y. Ice Shard is useful for revenge killing Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Scale Shot Mega Garchomp, and Rillaboom. Ice Shard is also useful in revenge killing neutrally hit faster threats, such as Mega Lopunny and Tapu Koko, after a considerable amount of chip damage. Weavile fits best on offensive teams that appreciate the Pursuit support it provides. Pokemon that struggle against Mega Latias, Reuniclus, and Aegislash appreciate Pursuit, such as Kartana, Mega Medicham, and Toxapex. Pivots such as Slowbro and Blissey help Weavile get into play without being forced to take a hit while also luring in Aegislash and Gengar for Weavile to take advantage of. Weavile's frailty and typing leave quite a bit to be desired defensively, making it vulnerable to priority users and faster offensive threats such as Rillaboom, Ash-Greninja, and Mega Lopunny. Pokemon that can pivot into these threats like Toxapex, Corviknight, and Clefable fit well alongside Weavile. Also, Weavile's susceptibility to Stealth Rock necessitates Defog support from the likes of Corviknight and Zapdos. Corviknight is especially noteworthy because it invites in Garchomp and offensive Landorus-T in order to pivot out with U-turn into Weavile. Additionally, Mega Scizor and Toxapex counter Weavile, so Pokemon that threaten them such as Taunt Heatran and Mega Medicham make for excellent partners. Heatran and Toxapex are especially good partners because they appreciate Weavile's ability to Pursuit trap Mega Latios and Mega Latias and threaten Gliscor, Garchomp, and Landorus-T with Triple Axel.

Weavile's access to Swords Dance in tandem with its powerful offensive typing and great Attack and Speed stats let it act as a wallbreaker, revenge killer, and late game cleaner. Very few of its checks function in the long term; since Weavile uses Heavy-Duty Boots to ignore chip damage from entry hazards its often able to outlast its checks, and it only needs minimal chip damage to break through physical walls like Skarmory, Buzzwole, and Clefable. However, Weavile's lack of immediate power allows offensive threats such as Mega Mawile and Urshifu-R to switch in freely while additionally losing out on the ability to Pursuit trap susceptible foes. Triple Axel is the preferred Ice-type option due to its power, notably doing significantly more damage to Clefable and Corviknight, whereas Icicle Crash is more accurate, does not make contact, and has a handy flinch chance at the cost of a significant power drop. Knock Off is the Dark-type move of choice due to its excellent secondary effect of item removal, allowing Weavile to weaken foes like Heatran, Corviknight, and Tapu Fini, which helps with its ability to clean in the late game. Meanwhile, Ice Shard allows Weavile to pick off faster targets like Choice Scarf Landorus-T and weakened Tapu Koko, while also being able to revenge kill sweepers like Hawlucha and Mega Garchomp. Weavile's amazing offensive profile nets it a role on teams that appreciate its offensive capability and have the defensive backbone to support its subpar bulk. However, Weavile's inability to directly switch into attacks during games makes it difficult for Weavile to consistently break down teams. As such, Pokemon that can help safely pivot Weavile onto the field such as Landorus-T, Corviknight, and Mega Lopunny make for excellent teammates. Magnezone is an excellent pairing for Weavile due to its ability to trap Steel-types like Corviknight and Ferrothorn which Weavile might have trouble breaking through, as well as providing a strong Volt Switch which can potentially allow Weavile a free switch-in. Due to its potency as a late-game cleaner, Weavile appreciates being paired up with powerful wallbreakers like Kartana, Ash-Greninja, and Mega Mawile which can help it sweep after overwhelming shared checks like Corviknight, Tapu Fini, and Ferrothorn. Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Heatran which can provide support in the form of entry hazards make Weavile's job against Pokemon like Corviknight and Melmetal much easier. Furthermore, these Pokemon help to defensively check Pokemon that might try to revenge kill Weavile, such as Tapu Koko and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele. In return, Weavile is able to Knock Off Heavy-Duty Boots from the likes of Volcarona, Clefable, and opposing Weavile, helping their hazards matter more in the long term.

Moves Pursuit allows Weavile to take out Pokemon like Mega Latios, Pajantom, and Choice-locked Tapu Lele while also ensuring that it gets off damage on Tornadus-T if it is expected to switch out. Knock Off is a spammable move that can remove important items from Pokemon like Arghonaut, Chansey, and Assault Vest Magearna. Ice Shard is notably used to KO Necturna after it has used Shell Smash. It can also potentially pick off weakened faster threats like Mega Alakazam and Tapu Koko. Set Details Choice Band is preferred over Life Orb because Weavile can't OHKO -1 Necturna with Ice Shard otherwise. Additionally, Weavile tends to get chipped down very fast with its susceptibility to Life Orb recoil and entry hazards. Pickpocket is preferred over Pressure to not reveal anything about Weavile's Speed against Pokemon like Landorus-T. Usage Tips Weavile should look to spam Knock Off early-game to cripple checks like Arghonaut and Assault Vest Magearna as well as check for Z-Moves, which can make playing around Pokemon like Magearna significantly easier. Due to Weavile's inability to directly switch into play on Pokemon it wants to Pursuit trap like Mega Latios and Pajantom, you should look to switch it into play on predicted switches on these Pokemon. Be wary of Stealth Rock, however, as it severely cuts into Weavile's health. It should be noted that Weavile can switch into most Pajantom lacking Outrage. While Weavile is threatened by Pokemon like Tapu Lele and Kitsunoh, they often run Choice items, meaning that if they lock themselves into a Psychic-type or Ghost-type move, they can be Pursuit trapped if you directly switch in Weavile. In a similar vein, Weavile should be switched into Necturna if it's predicted to set up. Team Options Weavile's ability to remove Pokemon such as Mega Latios and Pajantom from the match makes Pokemon like Mega Medicham, Smokomodo, and Volkraken good teammates, as they generally tend to struggle against them. Because Weavile is worn down so easily by entry hazards, Defoggers that can easily remove them like Tornadus-T and Zapdos are good teammates. Ash-Greninja is a great Pokemon to pair with Weavile, since it appreciates Weavile's ability to remove the items from checks like Toxapex, Arghonaut, and Magearna. While Weavile can punish Arghonaut with Knock Off, Pokemon that can further punish it like Mega Mawile, Tornadus-T, and Magearna are notable teammates, as Arghonaut will still be able to take on Weavile. Pokemon that can check Magearna and Mega Mawile like Heatran and your own Assault Vest Magearna are valuable teammates because these Pokemon will often attempt to use Weavile as bait to switch in. Necturna is an option that benefits from Weavile because it forces Choice Scarf users like Greninja and Kitsunoh to lock into Ice Beam and Shadow Strike, respectively, which Weavile can take advantage of and Pursuit trap them for Necturna.

Moves Icicle Crash is Weavile's most powerful STAB move and is used to hit Flying-, Ground-, and Dragon-type Pokemon like Tornadus-T, Landorus, and Kommo-o. Ice Shard can be used to revenge kill faster Pokemon like Choice Scarf Latios and Landorus-T as well as boosted Rock Polish Landorus. Knock Off is Weavile's main Dark-type STAB move that primarily hits Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokemon like Mew and Gengar for super effective damage. It is also useful as a utility move to remove key items from certain Pokemon, such Porygon2's Eviolite and Alolan Muk's Berry. Pursuit is used to trap and punish switches from Pokemon like Latios, Mega Gallade, and Victini after a V-create. Set Details Maximum Attack EVs allows Weavile to do as much damage as possible. Maximum Speed EVs with a Jolly nature allow Weavile to be as fast as possible, outspeeding the likes of non-Choice Scarf Greninja and Dugtrio. Life Orb allows Weavile to deal as much damage as possible while being able to switch moves. Usage Tips As Weavile is a revenge killer, it should be sent in if a teammate has fainted or if you predict a double switch. This allows it to preserve as much of its health as possible over time, significantly increasing its longevity during battle. Try to use Knock Off as much as possible early-game to remove items like Leftovers and Eviolite from most switch-ins to Weavile. Try to use Pursuit when a Pokemon is weakened and would naturally be forced out by Weavile, such as Gallade after a Close Combat or Latios after a Draco Meteor. Avoid leaving Weavile in on Pokemon like Scizor and Nihilego, as they can take hits from Weavile and OHKO it in return with priority moves or outspeed it with Choice Scarf. Refrain from getting any status conditions on Weavile, as they will hinder its usefulness in battle drastically. Try to clear entry hazards from your side of the field before sending in Weavile, as its vulnerability to Stealth Rock and generally poor defenses don't allow it to function well with extra chip damage. You must be extra wary about how much chip damage Weavile takes; as Weavile relies on Life Orb for damage, you want to maximize the number of times it can attack. Team Options Mega Sableye helps take hits for Weavile and reflects any incoming status moves or entry hazards thanks to Magic Bounce. It also provides a handy switch-in to Fighting-types like Mega Gallade and can use Knock Off to remove items from opposing Pokemon, making it easier for Weavile to KO them. Mandibuzz can use Defog to get rid of hazards so that Weavile can come in more often and helps defensively check threats to Weavile like Mega Scizor and Dragonite. With U-turn, it can also serve as a nice defensive pivot to safely switch Weavile into the fight. Alolan Muk takes special hits from the likes of Nihilego and Blacephelon for Weavile and also takes care of Fairy-types like Tapu Bulu and Tapu Koko for it. Tyranitar is a great asset to Weavile, as it can set Stealth Rock to chip down opposing Pokemon, allowing Weavile to revenge kill them more easily. Its Sand Stream also provides additional chip damage, and in return it appreciates Weavile's ability to check threats like Mega Gallade and Kommo-o. Similarly, Krookodile benefits Weavile with its access to Stealth Rock, and its access to Knock Off and Earthquake allows it to provide additional utility in removing items and taking out threatening Fire-types like Heatran. Mega Tyranitar also appreciates Weavile's ability to remove items from the opposing team as well as weaken certain walls, which allows it to be able to sweep much more easily late-game. Hydreigon and Greninja are both great assisting sweepers that can revenge kill threats Weavile can't, taking down threats to Weavile like Choice Scarf Excadrill with a Choice Scarf and their diverse movepool. They in turn appreciate Weavile's ability to check threats to them like Mega Gallade after a Close Combat and Landorus after a Rock Polish. Bisharp helps break through walls like Celesteela and Toxapex, which otherwise threaten Weavile immensely.

Moves Knock Off allows Weavile to hit Psychic- and Ghost-types such as Slowbro and Jelicent while also having the added utility of removing items. Icicle Crash is Weavile's powerful STAB Ice-type attack, which has a nice chance to flinch. Ice Shard enables Weavile to pick off weakened threats and check faster Flying- and Ground-types such as Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Choice Scarf Garchomp. Low Kick can be used to hit Steel-, Ice-, and Rock-types such as Heatran, Mamoswine, and Tyranitar. Pursuit allows Weavile to trap Psychic-types such as -1 Victini and Latios, but it loses out on the added coverage from Low Kick. Set Details Maximum Speed investment in conjunction with a Jolly nature allows Weavile to be as fast as possible, able to outspeed fast threats such as Greninja and Dugtrio. Maximum Attack investment is used so that Weavile hits as hard as possible. Life Orb is used to increase Weavile's damage output at the cost of some of its HP. Pressure is preferred ability over Pickpocket because it enables Weavile to stall out PP. Usage Tips Avoid switching Weavile in on powerful attacks, even ones that it resists, as it is extremely frail. Switch in Weavile after a teammate has fainted or on a predicted double switch so that it doesn't have to take any unnecessary damage and can revenge kill fast threats with ease. Use Weavile to sweep late-game once its counters such as Scizor, Keldeo, and Alomomola are removed. When Stealth Rock is up, it is best to remove it before switching Weavile in because it lowers the number of rounds of recoil Weavile can take from Life Orb. Avoid status conditions, namely burns and paralysis, because burns halve Weavile's Attack stat, while paralysis halves its Speed. Spam Knock Off early-game to remove as many items as possible. Use Pursuit to eliminate Psychic-types and weakened Pokemon, most notably -1 Victini. Weavile should avoid staying in against priority users such as Scizor and Breloom because they can KO it. Team Options Avalugg is a solid switch-in to most physical attacks while also having access to Rapid Spin, which allows it to remove Stealth Rock. In return, Weavile can eliminate fast special attackers such as Latios and Alakazam. Kyurem-B can deal with bulky Water-types such as Toxapex and some Steel-types such as Heatran with Fusion Bolt and Earth Power, respectively, while Weavile deals with bulky Psychic-types such as Mew and Jirachi. Weavile struggles against Fighting-types, so Alolan Ninetales is a great teammate because it checks Pokemon such as Keldeo and Terrakion with Moonblast. Mamoswine and Piloswine can both set up Stealth Rock, which allows Weavile to always OHKO Jellicent and Mew. Mamoswine can also check Steel-types such as Heatran and Klefki with its Ground-type attacks. In return, Weavile checks bulky Psychic-types such as Mew and Slowbro, which can cripple Mamoswine. Both Walrein and Lapras can check Mega Scizor and can safely switch into Fire-type attacks. Lapras can also check bulky Water-types such as Swampert and Alomomola with Freeze-Dry. Weavile can trap bulky Psychic-types such as Slowbro and Mew with Pursuit, which gives Cloyster more opportunities to sweep with Shell Smash.

Moves Fake Out is Refrigerate-boosted; it provides Weavile with a great way to revenge kill Pokemon weak to Ice, particularly Zygarde, and it breaks Lunala's Shadow Shield. Swords Dance boosts Weavile's Attack to extreme levels, giving it significant wallbreaking potential. Frustration is Weavile's most spammable attack, having no drawbacks while being Refrigerate- and STAB-boosted. Double-Edge allows Weavile deal greater damage at the cost of taking recoil damage; for example, it is able to 2HKO offensive variants of Primal Groudon and 4HKO Cameruptite Magearna. Double-Edge also pressures Steel-types significantly more than Frustration, but it should not be run with Pursuit. Pursuit allows Weavile to trap Pokemon that it can beat like Lunala while also threatening or damaging the Pokemon it forces out, such as Landorus-T and Zygarde, with its other attacks. Feint is a secondary form of priority but is often somewhat weak. Feint is used over Quick Attack, as it allows Weavile to finish off Zygarde before getting hit with Extreme Speed due to Feint's +2 priority. Throat Chop can be used as another STAB-boosted attack to help deal with some Ice-resistant Pokemon while not having to deal with the lackluster damage of unboosted Pursuit. Set Details Maximum Speed investment along with a Jolly Nature allows Weavile to outspeed as many Pokemon as possible. After Mega Evolving, Weavile is able to outspeed Pokemon like non-Diancite Terrakion, Red Orb Shaymin-S, and Darkrai. 252 Attack EVs along with Weavile's increased Attack from Glalitite ensure that Weavile hits as hard as possible. Refrigerate is the main draw of this set, boosting the power of Weavile's Normal-type moves as well as changing them to Ice-type, thus adding an extra STAB boost. Usage Tips Weavile should be used to revenge kill a huge amount of the Ice-weak Pokemon in the tier, such as Zygarde, Landorus-T, and most Flying-types. Fake Out should be used to damage Pokemon that outspeed Weavile, allowing it to either pick off weakened foes or get chip damage before switching out. Swords Dance should be used to allow Weavile to function as a wallbreaker and setup sweeper, but Weavile's lacking defenses often make it difficult to set up. Pursuit should be used both against Ghost- and Psychic-types that Weavile can force out, such as Lunala and Azelf, and to get useful chip damage on the Ice-weak Pokemon that it forces out. Weavile needs to avoid opposing priority itself, as its pitiful defenses leave it extremely vulnerable. Weavile should boost with caution, only after all opposing priority users and faster Pokemon have been removed. Team Options Weavile appreciates Pokemon that can beat the Steel- and Fire-types that it has trouble breaking. Some great examples of these Pokemon include Primal Groudon, Terrakion, Entei, Victini, and Zygarde. Primal Groudon and Golisopod help take care of the Fire-types that Weavile struggles with. Weavile also appreciates Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Kartana, and Shaymin-S that beat the Water-types that it dislikes. Weavile's weakness to Stealth Rock is troublesome, so entry hazard removal from the likes of Arceus-Fairy, Gliscor, Arceus-Ground, and Zapdos can help preserve Weavile. Pokemon holding Diancite or Sablenite such as Terrakion and Magearna, respectively, are useful teammates because their Magic Bounce ability is helpful to bounce back hazards.

Moves Fake Out is a great utility move that prevents the target from acting, letting Weavile's partner set up or deal with the foe without much pressure. Knock Off removes the foe's item and works especially well against certain Pokemon such as Power Herb Xerneas, Sitrus Berry Dialga and Palkia, and Shuca Berry Dialga. Icicle Crash is a decently powerful STAB move that allows Weavile to easily deal with some of the most relevant Pokemon of the metagame, such as Mega Salamence and Rayquaza. Feint provides great utility, allowing Weavile to break through Protect and Quick Guard. Weavile is also the only Feint user that acts before Mega Rayquaza's Extreme Speed, allowing the latter to use the move after Weavile has broken the foe's Quick Guard. Low Kick provides additional coverage and can be used if you need answers to certain Pokemon such as Dialga and Mega Kangaskhan. Set Details Maximum Attack and Speed investment alongside a Jolly nature ensures that Weavile hits as hard and as fast as possible, whereas 4 HP EVs slightly increase Weavile's bulk. Focus Sash is almost a necessity, as Weavile won't be able to survive any attack most of the times. However, Life Orb can be used if more power is preferred, but it leaves Weavile even more vulnerable to priority moves. Pressure is the chosen ability, as Pickpocket is too unreliable to be competitively viable. Usage Tips Weavile has to be brought onto the field safely, either in a leading position or after a teammate has fainted. Weavile should also be used against Trick Room setters such as Cresselia and Dialga, as it can deal fairly well with most of them thanks to the combination of Fake Out and its other moves. More generally, use Fake Out as soon as Weavile is on the battlefield to prevent one of the foes from acting and allow Weavile's partner to set up or deal with the foes more easily. If running it, use Protect to scout for the opponent's intentions; however, Protect is usually quite risky to use, as it gives the foes the opportunity to set up Tailwind, Trick Room, or boosting moves. Team Options Primal Kyogre greatly benefits from Weavile being able to deal with Thundurus and physical attackers such as Mega Salamence and Rayquaza. On a similar note, Xerneas appreciates Weavile's Fake Out support to set up more easily, as well as its ability to deal with the two Dragons. Like for any other Fake Out user, wallbreakers can take advantage of one of the foes not moving; Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, Rayquaza, and Mega Kangaskhan are good teammates for this. Allied Mega Salamence and Rayquaza can take advantage of Weavile dealing with opposing Dragons, which also allows them to avoid mind games and Speed ties. Yveltal can be used to form a powerful Dark-type core thanks to Dark Aura, but the duo is very weak to common threats such as Xerneas.

Choice Band increases Weavile's wallbreaking potential, allowing it to often 2HKO physically defensive Rotom-W after Stealth Rock with Knock Off. Weavile can revenge kill weakened threats and check problematic Flying- and Ground-types such as Hawlucha, Landorus, Gliscor, and Garchomp. It also helps wear down offensive threats to Dark teams like Mega Charizard Y and bulky Mega Gardevoir. Mandibuzz is a Defogger that can provide pivot support and switch into physical attackers like Mega Lopunny, Excadrill, and Choice Scarf Victini. With its Prankster-enhanced Will-O-Wisp and Taunt, Sableye can deter entry hazards, deal with most Fighting-types, and cripple physical attackers like Mega Scizor, Mamoswine, and Mega Swampert. Mega Tyranitar can either run a Dragon Dance sweeper set or a utility set with Special Defense investment. The former helps wear down shared answers such as Porygon2 and Skarmory, while the latter sets Stealth Rock and cripples foes with Thunder Wave. Krookodile is an alternative Stealth Rock setter that can annoy physical attackers with Intimidate and run Choice Scarf to check Mega Charizard Y with Stone Edge. Hydreigon checks Mega Scizor and demolishes physically defensive walls like Skarmory and Rotom-W. Bisharp can switch into Mega Aerodactyl, check Choice Scarf Victini after prior chip damage, and revenge kill weakened threats with Sucker Punch. Cacturne's Water immunity and STAB Grass-type coverage let it situationally come in on and threaten Choice-locked Kingdra and slower Water-types like Politoed and Swampert. It also sets Spikes, allowing Weavile to pick up KOs more easily.

Moves Knock Off is Weavile's strongest attack and gets rid of the foe's item. It also beats Psychic-types like Jirachi, Victini, and Mew and Ghost-types like Jellicent and Gengar. Icicle Crash is Weavile's secondary STAB move; it has a decent flinch chance and lets it threaten Dragon- and Flying-type Pokemon like Dragonite, Zapdos, Hydreigon, and Landorus while also hitting Fighting-types and Mega Evolutions such as Mega Gallade. Ice Shard is a good priority move that lets Weavile revenge kill weakened Pokemon and deal massive damage to Choice Scarf users such as Garchomp and Landorus-T. Low Kick allows Weavile to beat Steel- and Rock-type Pokemon like Heatran and Tyranitar. Pursuit can be used to hit retreating foes like Gengar, Victini, or and Chandelure, all of which are threats to Ice teams. Set Details Maximum Speed investment with a Jolly nature lets Weavile outspeed threats like Latios, Mega Diancie, and Mega Gallade, while maximum Attack investment lets Weavile hit as hard as it can without a boosting nature. Life Orb is used to increase Weavile's damage output even more at the cost of losing a bit of HP at the end of every successful attack. Pressure is used over Pickpocket, as Weavile would have to first lose its own item to effectively make use of it. On the other hand, Pressure can drain Stone Edge and Close Combat PP, both of which are problems for Ice-type teams. Usage Tips As Weavile has poor bulk, it should be sent out when a teammate faints or against weakened foes to revenge kill them with Ice Shard. Weavile functions as great late-game cleaner due to its excellent Speed and Attack. Most defensive Pokemon hate losing their item, so Weavile can easily capitalize on that and weaken them. It should not be sent in when Stealth Rock is on the field, as it will get worn very easily when combined with Life Orb damage. Weavile should be wary of any type of status effect, as they heavily reduce its offensive presence. Weavile can be worn down easily, making it very vulnerable to priority moves like Infernape's Mach Punch and Mega Scizor's Bullet Punch. Team Options Mamoswine is a fantastic partner for Weavile, as it can set up Stealth Rock and pressure Fire- and Steel-type Pokemon like Heatran. On the other hand, Weavile can make up for Mamoswine's average Speed and take out faster threats like Latios. Piloswine can be used as a bulkier version of Mamoswine to pivot into attacks more easily. Running Piloswine also allows Mamoswine to use a more offensive set. Avalugg gets rid of entry hazards for Weavile while acting as a defensive backbone for it. Aurorus can spread paralysis through Thunder Wave and act as an alternative Stealth Rock user. Froslass provides a Fighting-type immunity and can set up Spikes to help Weavile break through certain Pokemon more easily. Kyurem-B is a great wallbreaker and can easily weaken most Pokemon so that Weavile can clean up later. It can also threaten Fairy- and Water-type Pokemon for Weavile through Iron Head and Fusion Bolt. Lapras greatly helps Weavile deal with Water-type Pokemon, as its access to Freeze-Dry lets it easily break the Water-types that Weavile has a hard time against, such as Mega Swampert, Gyarados, Azumarill, and Quagsire. Walrein threatens Fire-type Pokemon like Victini, Torkoal, and Darmanitan, all of which are annoying for Weavile. It also beats Scizor with a Choice Specs-boosted Hidden Power Fire, which is especially helpful. Cloyster appreciates Weavile's ability to weaken Pokemon and remove their items, as it runs a setup sweeper set. Rotom-F can pivot with Volt Switch and safely bring in Weavile. It also beats and cripples bulky Water-type Pokemon like Gyarados and Azumarill through Thunderbolt and Will-O-Wisp, respectively. Both Mega Glalie and Abomasnow are good partners, as they help Weavile against Water-type Pokemon through Freeze-Dry and Giga Drain, respectively.

Moves Knock Off is Weavile's strongest Dark-type STAB attack and also removes items such as Leftovers, Eviolite, and Shed Shell. Icicle Crash is Weavile's best Ice-type STAB attack and hits common threats such as Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Thundurus hard. It also has a decent chance to make the foe flinch and allows Weavile to avoid taking damage from Iron Barbs, Rough Skin, or Rocky Helmet. Sucker Punch picks off naturally faster Pokemon such as Aerodactyl as well as Choice Scarf users such as Hoopa-U. Low Kick hits Rock-, Ice-, and Steel-types such as Tyranitar, Kyurem-B, Ferrothorn, and Bisharp hard. Pursuit allows Weavile to trap opposing Pokemon, especially Psychic- and Ghost-types such as Meloetta, Latios, and Gengar. It works very well alongside Sucker Punch. Ice Shard leaves Weavile less reliant on prediction than Sucker Punch, but it is only half as powerful against neutral foes. Parting Shot allows Weavile to pivot out of its counters and give its teammates setup opportunities, but Weavile struggles to use it effectively, as it is frail and vulnerable to entry hazards. Swords Dance allows Weavile to heavily threaten typical switch-ins such as Rotom-W and clean up teams late-game with Sucker Punch. However, Weavile struggles to find setup opportunities and can be easily revenge killed by Extreme Speed users. Set Details Weavile's Attack and Speed EVs are maximized to increase its power and make the most of its excellent Speed stat. Life Orb boosts Weavile's power without locking it into one move. While it is rarely helpful, Pressure allows Weavile to quickly drain the PP of moves such as Extreme Speed and Close Combat before it is KOed. Usage Tips Weavile should never be switched directly into an attack, as it is far too frail to take even neutral hits. Instead, it should be brought in after a teammate has fainted or with the use of a pivoting move. Once Weavile is on the field, Knock Off should be used a lot to wear down teams and cripple foes. However, Weavile needs to avoid priority users, which easily revenge kill it, and status inducers, as they can often cripple it for the remainder of the match. Team Options As it is vulnerable to entry hazards, Weavile appreciates Rapid Spin or Defog support from Pokemon such as Excadrill, Mega Lopunny, Starmie, Latios, and Landorus-T. Entry hazard setters such as Terrakion, Garchomp, and Klefki limit the number of Pokemon that can switch into Weavile. Psychic- and Flying-types such as Starmie, Latios, and Tornadus-T threaten the Fighting-types, especially Keldeo, that Weavile hates. Steel- and Poison-types such as Excadrill, Scizor, and Gengar take on bulky Fairy-types. Ground- and Fighting-type attackers such as Landorus-T and Mega Lopunny threaten opposing Steel-types. Offensive Fire-types such as Heatran and both Mega Charizard formes are especially notable for their ability to break through Steel-types and beat most Fairy-types. Offensive Electric- and Grass-types such as Thundurus and Serperior handle the bulky Water-types that Weavile cannot break. Volt Switch, U-turn, and Parting Shot from the likes of Thundurus, Landorus-T, and Sableye allow Weavile to get onto the field safely, while Weavile can fit into these chains with its own Parting Shot. Weavile can reliably Pursuit trap Psychic-types, which Pokemon such as Keldeo and Mega Medicham appreciate, and Ghost-types, which Extreme Speed users such as Ursaring appreciate. These Pokemon can also revenge kill the setup sweepers that take advantage of Weavile with Vacuum Wave, Fake Out + Mach Punch, and Fake Out + Extreme Speed, respectively.

Moves Weavile is a great user of Fake Out because it outspeeds many other Pokemon with Fake Out or Quick Guard. Fake Out is very useful for giving allies a free turn. Knock Off is Weavile's go-to move; it does good damage and is useful for getting rid of a Pokemon's item. Icicle Crash hits many Pokemon super effectively and deals with big threats such as Landorus-T and Mega Salamence. Low Kick is Weavile's best option for coverage and deals with Steel-types that would normally give it trouble, such as Bisharp and Heatran. Protect can be used over Low Kick for the good utility it provides. Set Details A simple spread of maximum Attack and Speed is used to allow Weavile to hit as hard and as quickly as possible. Focus Sash is used because Weavile is frail and normally would be OHKOed by many strong Pokemon in Battle Spot Doubles. Pressure is not a very useful ability, but it provides some utility over Pickpocket by whittling down select moves' PP; this is especially useful against moves with only 5-8 PP, such as Close Combat. Pickpocket is also generally bad because Weavile can potentially take a bad item with it, such as a Choice item. Usage Tips Weavile is used well as a lead, immediately providing Fake Out support. After using Fake Out, Weavile should be dealing as much damage as possible throughout the match. Weavile can use its good STAB coverage to knock out or weaken Pokemon that its teammates have trouble with. Knock Off should be used to cripple Pokemon that like their item, such as Choice Scarf and Sitrus Berry users. Don't be afraid to switch out Weavile when it's in a bad position, as its Fake Out support can be useful again later on in a match as well. Team Options Weavile is a good teammate for Fighting-types because it can deal with Ghost- and Psychic-types for them. Sylveon is a good teammate because it can get a free turn to use Hyper Voice with Fake Out support, while Weavile has Low Kick to deal with Steel-types that threaten Sylveon. Mega Charizard Y appreciates Weavile's ability to deal with Landorus-T so that it won't have to fear the fast Rock Slide coming its way. Mega Charizard Y also appreciates Weavile's Fake Out support so it can get free turns to use Heat Wave. Strong physical attackers, such as Kangaskhan, Terrakion, and Talonflame, also appreciate Weavile's ability to get rid of Landorus-T easily.

Moves Fake Out lets Weavile get relatively safe chip damage on the foe, breaking potential Focus Sash leads and possibly bringing the foe down to KO range for one of Weavile's other moves. Knock Off is Weavile's primary STAB move and is useful for taking down Gengar, Aegislash, and Cresselia or removing items from foes that might switch in as a result of the offensive pressure Weavile provides. Unless the opposing team has a Mega Evolution that doesn't mind Dark-type moves, Knock Off is generally a very safe move to use. Low Kick provides great coverage alongside Knock Off, threatening Rock-types such as Tyranitar as well as hitting Mega Kangaskhan and Mamoswine harder than Weavile's STAB moves. Low Kick can also KO Mega Kangaskhan variants that don't invest in bulk after a bit of prior damage, which Fake Out can provide. Ice Shard is commonly used in the final slot for beating boosted Mega Salamence, Choice Scarf Landorus-T, and Choice Scarf Garchomp, which all KO Weavile otherwise. Ice Shard is also necessary to beat lead Breloom before it can OHKO Weavile back with Mach Punch, and it's generally a great move for picking off a weakened foe without fear of being revenge killed. Alternatively, Icicle Crash is a more powerful Ice-type STAB move that can take on sturdier Pokemon that otherwise can take an Ice Shard and threaten to KO back, such as Zapdos and Hippowdon. It also gives Weavile a strong STAB attack that doesn't make contact or rely on the foe having an item. However, Fake Out can be dropped to run both Ice Shard and Icicle Crash at the cost of being unable to effectively threaten opposing leads. Set Details The EV spread is designed to maximize Weavile's offensive potential. Maximum investment in Attack and Speed with a Jolly nature is needed to outpace base 110 Speed Pokemon such as Latios and Gengar. Life Orb is the preferred item because Weavile wants all the power it can get without having to compromise its important Speed tier, and it won't be able to take a hit if the foe survives anyway, so the recoil isn't a huge concern. Focus Sash is an alternative that can help Weavile reliably revenge kill at least one threat, although the loss in power is significant. Usage Tips Weavile is best used as an anti-lead with Fake Out to pick off Focus Sash leads such as Garchomp, Mamoswine, and Breloom. However, be careful not to mindlessly click Fake Out if the foe might have Rocky Helmet, as that can result in Weavile taking more damage than Fake Out does to the foe. Dark / Ice coverage forces a lot of switches, so don't be afraid to click Knock Off or even switch out to take advantage of the offensive pressure that Weavile provides. If Weavile doesn't lead, it can still function as an effective late-game cleaner or revenge killer. However, while it is capable of cleaning weakened teams on its own, remember that Weavile is very frail and will struggle to break through bulkier Pokemon on its own. Unless you're sure it can sweep, don't rely on Weavile to be your sweeper. Weavile also depends greatly on type advantage to do its job effectively. If the opposing team isn't particularly weak to Weavile's STAB moves, Weavile should probably sit out for the battle. Team Options Weavile greatly appreciates Stealth Rock support from Hippowdon or Garchomp to help it secure KOs on threats such as Mega Kangaskhan and Greninja. Weavile is also capable of KOing Talonflame with the combination of Fake Out and Ice Shard after Stealth Rock damage. Hippowdon and Garchomp also threaten Blaziken, which fears little from Weavile. Talonflame itself pairs well with Weavile, threatening the Fighting-types that give Weavile trouble. Fire-types that threaten Mawile and Skarmory also make for strong partners, while Weavile can take on Ground-types such as Landorus-T and Garchomp in return. In particular, Mega Charizard Y and Heatran also beat Aegislash reliably, which is important because Weavile can't OHKO Shield forme Aegislash with Knock Off and risks facing King's Shield or activating Weakness Policy. Grass-types such as Serperior help with Weavile's fear of Azumarill while also threatening the other bulky Water-types that Weavile struggles to break. In return, Weavile can deal with Mega Salamence and other Flying-types that keep Grass-types away. Weavile also appreciates support from slow U-turn and Volt Switch users to give it an easier time coming in if it doesn't lead. Rotom-W in particular deals with Talonflame, while Weavile threatens Grass-types that will want to switch into Rotom-W.

Weavile is arguably the best late-game sweeper available to the Underused metagame, as its unique dual STAB, amazing Speed and sheer power make it difficult to beat once set up. With maximum Speed investment, Weavile is capable of outspeeding all unboosted Pokemon bar Crobat, making it one of the fastest Pokemon available to the tier. Swords Dance brings Weavile's already potent Attack stat to monstrous levels, allowing it to 2HKO and even OHKO many top defensive threats, such as Cofagrigus, Gligar, and Rhyperior. Ice Shard holds a lot of utility in the second slot, as it allows Weavile to check and OHKO Choice Scarf Flygon, which would otherwise outspeed and significantly threaten Weavile, while also allowing it to pick off weakened opponents. After a Swords Dance, Ice Shard OHKOes and 2HKOes many other opposing threats, even those using Choice Scarf. Night Slash acts as Weavile's Dark-type STAB move of choice, allowing it to tear opposing Psychic- and Ghost-types apart. Night Slash also has solid neutral coverage in UU, so it's useful for powering through the opposition mid-sweep. Low Kick occupies the fourth slot to flatten opposing Steel- and Rock-types with the former resisting Weavile's dual STAB, as their cumbersome weight means they'll be taking a lot of damage after a Swords Dance, potentially opening up the opposition for a game-clinching sweep. Low Kick is also effective at removing Snorlax, which stomachs Weavile's STAB attacks with relative ease due to its supreme bulk. A Jolly nature is a must in order to outspeed positively-natured base 115s, such as Raikou and Azelf. A bulkier EV spread of 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe can be used to give Weavile the chance to set up on stray Ice Beams or Shadow Balls, but now Weavile can only tie with opposing Crobat. If Life Orb recoil isn't your cup of tea, an Expert Belt can be used instead. However, there will be a noticeable drop of damage done to neutrally-hit opponents. Ice Punch can be used over Ice Shard in favor of more damage output, as it is Weavile's strongest physical Ice-type STAB attack, but prevents Weavile from beating the multiple Choice Scarf users that would otherwise outspeed and beat Weavile. Pokemon capable of keeping the field free of entry hazards, specifically Stealth Rock, make for excellent partners, as Weavile cannot afford to continuously switch in on them. Xatu, Blastoise, and Hitmontop all make for great choices, with the latter of the two also resisting Fire- and Rock-type attacks aimed at Weavile. Victini can be used to lure in Pursuit users wielding a Choice Band, such as Snorlax, and give Weavile a free turn to set up Swords Dance. The removal of bulky Water-types also makes Weavile's life easier, making Zapdos and Shaymin useful teammates, as their powerful STAB attacks will make quick work of any opposing Water-type. Powerful attackers that can freely switch in on or lure bulky Water-types, specifically Choice Specs Kingdra, Arcanine, and Choice Band Heracross, are also capable of heavily damaging them, giving Weavile room to pull off a sweep.

Thanks to its sky-high Speed and Attack, Weavile performs exceptionally well as a revenge killer thanks to the abundance of Ghost- and Psychic-types in the tier and access to Pursuit. Pursuit allows Weavile to put opposing Ghost- and Psychic-types such as Mismagius and Azelf into a checkmate situation, preventing them from switching and doing heavy amounts of damage and 2HKOing both without Stealth Rock damage or the bonus damage from switching. Ice Shard is Weavile's main STAB, allowing it to bust faster opposing threats, such as Choice Scarf Flygon or Choice Scarf Zapdos, wide open. Low Kick is handy for breaking through opposing Rock-, Ice-, and Steel-type opponents that would otherwise resist Pursuit or Ice Shard, potentially opening holes throughout the opposition's defenses. The last slot is more preference-based, as both Ice Punch and Night Slash are acceptable options. Ice Punch deals more damage to slower Flying-, Grass-, and Ground-types than Ice Shard does, but Night Slash is capable of inflicting more damage against opposing Fire-types. Night Slash also guarantees the OHKO on many of the Ghost- and Psychic-types that Pursuit is designed to trap, but when the opponent decides not to switch. A bulkier spread of 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe can be used in order to take weaker ineffective attacks better while still maintaining the jump on positively-natured base 115s. The choice in item is a personal preference, with Choice Band allowing Weavile to deal more damage and embrace a revenge killer role while Life Orb gives Weavile free reign over its moves at the cost of HP. Do note that if you choose Choice Band, Rapid Spin or Magic Bounce support is mandatory. Teammates capable of keeping entry hazards away from Weavile, such as Blastoise, Hitmontop, and Xatu, all make for great partners. Depending on your choice of move in the fourth slot, Weavile will require some custom support. If you opted for Ice Punch, teammates capable of removing bulky Water- and Fire-type Pokemon are greatly appreciated. Kingdra, Zapdos, and Rhyperior are all capable of removing at least one of those two types from battle. If Night Slash was chosen, partners capable of removing Fighting-types will be desired. Cofagrigus, Slowbro, and Togekiss are all good candidates for removing Fighting-types and can help ease Weavile's need to come in and defeat the opposition.

Weavile is used similar to most other Fake Out users: use Fake Out on the bigger threat to your team and attack with Weavile's teammate. However, it excels at grabbing OHKOs after turn one, something which many other Fake Out users fail at. STAB-boosted Night Slash does heavy damage to common VGC 2012 walls such as Cresselia, Latias, and Dusknoir. Ice Punch is a fantastic STAB attack to have coming off of base 125 Speed, as Garchomp, Zapdos, and other Dragon- and Flying-type Pokemon are on almost every team. Ice Punch also gives coverage on Amoonguss, one of the most annoying defensive walls in the metagame. Ice Shard is another STAB option, and its added priority is a useful tool against faster Pokemon, such as Aerodactyl and Choice Scarf Garchomp. However, Ice Shard's lower Base Power is an issue, and it thus does not get the same KOs that Ice Punch does. Low Kick hits Steel- and Rock-type Pokemon for serious damage, and serves as a decently powerful coverage option as most of them are heavy and are hit by Low Kick at 120 Base Power. Weavile will always win the Fake Out war against Hitmontop, Infernape, and Scrafty due to its higher Speed. Pickpocket is the better ability choice over Pressure, allowing Weavile to actually get some use out of it's ability. However it only finds use when holding items such as Focus Sash and other consumable items. A Jolly nature and 252 Speed EVs are used to Speed tie with other Weavile and positive-natured Swellow. Maximum Attack EVs allow Weavile to net more KOs with Expert Belt; Focus Sash is also an item option to give gives Weavile two turns to attack. Fake Out + Ice Punch vs. 4/0 Yache Berry Garchomp 95.7% - 114.1% Fake Out + Ice Punch vs. 140/0 Zapdos 106.01 - 126.23% Fake Out + Low Kick vs. 4/0 Heatran 95.21 - 113.77% Ice Punch vs. 4/0 Thundurus 127.74% - 150.97% Night Slash vs. 4/0 Latios 102.6% - 124.4% Low Kick vs. 252/0 Tyranitar 139.13% - 164.25% Weavile struggles with Fire-type opponents such as Choice Scarf Chandelure and Speed Boost Blaziken. Chandelure is immune to Fake Out, giving it a free turn to OHKO Weavile, while in addition to resisting both Weavile's STAB attacks, Blaziken can Protect against Fake Out, outspeed and OHKO the next turn. Water-type Pokemon work very well with Weavile, as they provide a Heat Wave resistance and appreciate the removal of Zapdos. Tailwind users or slower Pokemon that use strong spread attacks can also benefit from Weavile's fast Fake Out.

This set takes full advantage of Weavile's unique combination of niches, allowing it to act as a potent revenge killer in multiple scenarios. Ice Shard is a very useful STAB move, allowing Weavile to revenge kill Garchomp, Dragonite, and Salamence with ease. Weavile can even revenge kill Breloom with a small amount of prior damage, beating Breloom to the literal punch with priority of its own. Pursuit is also an incredibly important asset, allowing Weavile to eliminate dangerous threats such as Latios, Starmie, and Choice Scarf Chandelure, assuming Chandelure is not locked into a Fire-type move. Pursuit can also be used to deal damage to Dragon-types attempting to switch out in order to avoid Ice Shard. Low Kick provides needed coverage against Steel-types, and also deals heavy amounts of damage to Tyranitar. Weavile's last move is its choice of an offensive STAB move. Night Slash is preferred, as it allows Weavile to pose a serious threats to walls such as Slowbro and Jellicent, who, so long as they didn't switch out, would not be overly bothered by Pursuit and could simply burn Weavile with Will-O-Wisp and Scald, respectively, before healing off the damage. However, Ice Punch is marginally stronger than Night Slash and provides useful coverage, so it is a considerable option. One of Weavile's biggest draws is its versatility, and as such Life Orb is an excellent item for it. However, Weavile can be a bit lacking in terms of offensive presence, which a Choice Band helps to mitigate. It restricts Weavile's utility a bit though, and makes it more likely that the opponent will find an opportunity to set up on Weavile. An Expert Belt is another option to consider, allowing Weavile to bluff a Choice Band while still providing a power boost, without the drawback of Life Orb's recoil. Brick Break is nearly as strong as Low Kick in some situations, and can break the dual screens of a Deoxys-S or Latios. Fake Out can assist in revenge killing threatening sweepers resistant to Ice Shard, such as Keldeo or Volcarona. Weavile wants entry hazard support badly, but also hates having to deal with the opponent's. Deoxys-S can provide Stealth Rock and Spikes while also blocking the opponent's entry hazards with Taunt or Magic Coat. Forretress performs similarly, setting down any entry hazard and spinning the opponent's away with Rapid Spin. Weavile also dislikes passive damage from weather, so Politoed and Abomasnow can be considered for partners. Politoed removes Weavile's Fire-type weakness, and Weavile can dispose of threats such as Dragonite, Latios, and Starmie, who would otherwise trouble Politoed. Abomasnow provides passive damage to soften up Weavile's opponents in the form of hail, and greatly benefits from having Chandelure removed. Similarly, Pokemon such as Breloom and Serperior are more threatening after an opposing Chandelure is disposed of. These two also greatly benefit from having the opponent's Dragon-types dispatched. Weavile's weakness to U-turn is a concern, so Pokemon who can switch into the move with little issue, such as Skarmory and Keldeo, are necessary. Weavile is also generally unable to get past Steel-types, so partners such as Chandelure and Excadrill are all appreciated.
