戰術分析

Yveltal's great typing and bulk allow it to be a functional check to Psychic- and Ghost-types. Unlike defensive Arceus-Dark, Yveltal can serve as a soft check to Marshadow as well, while having unique moves such as Sucker Punch, which aid its defensive capabilities further. Compared to the Choice Scarf variant, defensive Yveltal has more longevity across longer games and offers more utility against opposing bulkier teams that the former would struggle against. Defensive Yveltal is rather passive against special attackers barring offensive Primal Kyogre, often being setup fodder against Eternatus and Calm Mind Arceus formes. Despite this, Yveltal is a solid check to a lot of threats in the tier for balance and bulky offense teams. Foul Play boosted by Dark Aura makes defensive Yveltal difficult to deal with for a lot of physical attackers in the tier due to its high damage, such as against Swords Dance Primal Groudon, Extreme Killer Arceus, and Mega Salamence. It also prevents Zacian-C and offensive Primal Kyogre from directly switching into Yveltal, preventing the former from setting up freely while 2HKOing the latter. Toxic allows Yveltal to wear down opposing walls, such as defensive Ho-Oh, Zygarde, Arceus-Fairy, and Arceus-Dark. Alternatively, Taunt can be used to deny setup and utility, such as Zygarde's Coil and Ferrothorn's Spikes, as well as prevent status condition-causing moves that would hinder Yveltal's longevity significantly such as Toxic from Alomomola and defensive Primal Groudon. Sucker Punch allows Yveltal to snipe frailer foes, such as Deoxys-A, Mega Mewtwo Y, and weakened Ultra Necrozma, preventing them from removing Yveltal with super effective coverage. Knock Off makes progress into bulkier teams, notably removing Heavy-Duty Boots from Ho-Oh and Alomomola, as well as Leftovers from Zygarde and Ferrothorn. It also removes offensive items from would-be switch-ins, such as Life Orb from opposing Yveltal and Eternatus as well as Choice Band from Chien-Pao, weakening them significantly for Yveltal's teammates to handle. The combination of Taunt and Toxic allows Yveltal to annoy bulky balance and stall teams by outlasting foes such as Alomomola, Chansey, and Dondozo with Roost and preventing their recovery with Taunt, making this set difficult to handle for Pokemon that cannot directly threaten it. U-turn can be considered to gain momentum against Yveltal's switch-ins such as Eternatus and Arceus-Fairy for teammates such as Necrozma-DM and Zacian-C. Defog is another option that allows Yveltal to remove entry hazards set by opposing Pokemon such as Swords Dance Primal Groudon and the more niche Landorus-T. However, Yveltal suffers from four-moveslot syndrome, so it struggles to fit all these moves effectively. The first EV spread allows Yveltal to outspeed positive-natured base 90 Speed Pokemon such as Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, and the more niche Choice Band Ho-Oh. The rest is dumped into Defense, notably preventing +1 Dragon Dance Zygarde from 2HKOing with Thousand Arrows. The second EV spread trades Speed for more Defense, allowing Yveltal to survive +2 Extreme Killer Arceus's Double Edge and +2 Arceus-Ground's Stone Edge while minimizing the odds of +1 Zacian-C's Play Rough OHKOing. The Speed EVs ensure Yveltal can outspeed Adamant Necrozma-DM. Tera Steel allows Yveltal to check Extreme Killer Arceus and Ultra Necrozma more effectively, since it notably removes Yveltal's weakness to Stone Edge from the latter. Tera Steel additionally protects Yveltal from Toxic poison inflicted by defensive Eternatus and Alomomola, improving its longevity. Tera Poison offers the same benefit but also gives a resistance to Deoxys-A's and Marshadow's Low Kick, allowing Yveltal to check them more easily. Tera Poison additionally enables Yveltal to check Play Rough variants of Zacian-C without being weak to Close Combat. However, gaining a weakness to Psychic-types Yveltal would otherwise check may not be ideal, especially against the aforementioned Deoxys-A. Tera Ghost is an alternative that can catch both Marshadow and Extreme Killer Arceus off guard, but still leaves Yveltal vulnerable to poison. This set is relatively simple to use; a physical wall that aims to punish Pokemon such as Ultra Necrozma, Swords Dance Primal Groudon, and Dragon Dance Arceus-Ground. However, Yveltal is not the most consistent physical wall in the tier, and unlike other defensive behemoths such as Zygarde and the more niche Dondozo, it is easier to overwhelm with status conditions such as burn from Ho-Oh and Toxic poison from defensive Primal Groudon. It is ideal to avoid getting statused to maintain Yveltal's longevity, ensuring it can check what it needs to without being severely weakened beforehand, as even paralysis from Zygarde's Glare can prevent Yveltal from revenge killing Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre. Yveltal's passivity against Eternatus and Calm Mind Arceus formes means offensive Ho-Oh is a strong teammate for it, since it can deal with these special attacking threats while Yveltal handles physical attackers such as Ultra Necrozma and Extreme Killer Arceus. Defensive Primal Groudon is a strong teammate too, beating Primal Kyogre and Zacian-C for Yveltal as well as offensive variants of Ho-Oh, while appreciating the two dealing with opposing Ground-types such as Arceus-Ground and Zygarde. Calm Mind Arceus-Fairy synergizes well with Yveltal, since it appreciates the latter checking Necrozma-DM for it, while Arceus-Fairy can assist Yveltal in checking Marshadow and Zygarde more easily. Marshadow itself is also a good teammate, removing Yveltal's need to run Sucker Punch for Ultra Necrozma and checking Calm Mind Arceus-Dark. In return, Yveltal helps overwhelm shared counterplay in opposing Arceus-Fairy and defensive Ho-Oh. Zacian-C checks Calm Mind Arceus formes and Eternatus for Yveltal; it appreciates Yveltal beating Necrozma-DM and wearing down Ho-Oh, similarly to Calm Mind Arceus-Fairy.

戰術分析

Choice Scarf Yveltal is an excellent revenge killer and Defogger, making it an anti-offense staple that finds place across offense, bulky offense, and balance teams that struggle to answer common setup sweepers like Zacian-C, Necrozma-DM, and Arceus-Ground. Yveltal's weakness to Stealth Rock, however, limits the number of times it can enter the field, which is exacerbated by the vulnerability of being Choice-locked. Foul Play is a very threatening move, with many relevant Pokemon in the tier being at least 3HKOed by it. Combined with Yveltal's great Speed tier, Foul Play lets it reliably revenge kill many threatening setup sweepers after a boost such as Zacian-C, Dragon Dance Arceus-Ground, Necrozma-DM, and Kyurem-B, while also 2HKOing offensive Ho-Oh, Double Dance Primal Groudon, and wallbreaker Primal Kyogre. While Foul Play's damage is considerable, it fails to threaten bulkier Pokemon such as Coil Zygarde, Eternatus, and special attacking Arceus variants, especially Arceus-Dark and Arceus-Fairy, meaning that Yveltal can be easy to take advantage of. U-turn allows Yveltal to pivot and gain momentum against switch-ins such as Zygarde and Eternatus. U-turn can also occasionally allow Yveltal to scout moves from Choice-locked Pokemon such as Marshadow and Lunala, as well as Tera Fairy from the latter. Yveltal is a situationally excellent user of Defog, as there is very little that any Pokemon can do to stop it. However, its poor longevity makes it bad at removing entry hazards multiple times, so it is often run alongside other forms of hazard control. Yveltal's final moveslot is highly flexible: Toxic gives Yveltal an option to threaten Pokemon that are otherwise undaunted by it such as Calm Mind Arceus formes that have not yet Terastallized to Poison, as well as Zygarde. Knock Off is another option that forces progress via item removal against Pokemon such as Coil Zygarde, Ho-Oh, Eternatus, Ferrothorn, and Garganacl, which rely heavily on their items. Eternatus also takes more damage from Knock Off than Foul Play, potentially opening up avenues to clean up games where Foul Play wouldn't suffice. Roost is a niche option that can help keep Yveltal healthy by taking advantage of the switches it forces. Sucker Punch lets Yveltal revenge kill weakened Ultra Necrozma and Agility Lunala after a Speed boost; otherwise, they can outspeed and KO Yveltal. 224 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature let Yveltal outspeed Dragon Dance Kyurem-B and Zygarde at +1. The remaining EVs are put into physical bulk, giving Yveltal a high chance to survive Mega Salamence's +1 Double Edge and Arceus's +2 Silk Scarf Tera Normal Extreme Speed. Additionally, Yveltal survives Primal Groudon's Stone Edge after Stealth Rock and Necrozma-DM's Searing Sunraze Smash. Tera Dark is Yveltal's most common Tera type for its ability to boost Foul Play's damage even further, letting it OHKO +3 Zacian-C, +2 Arceus, Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM, and Marshadow after any chip damage. The general power increase also has more situational applications, such as OHKOing Kyurem-B after a layer of Spikes, 2HKOing defensive Primal Kyogre after minimal chip, and to threaten Pokemon such as offensive Ho-Oh, wallbreaker Primal Kyogre, and Double Dance Primal Groudon even more. Tera Dark also lets Yveltal reliably check Ultra Necrozma lacking Outrage by keeping its Psychic immunity while removing its weakness to Stone Edge. Tera Ghost and Tera Steel are alternative options that allow Yveltal to better check Extreme Killer Arceus, with Tera Ghost protecting it completely from Extreme Speed, while Tera Steel grants a resistance to Stealth Rock and the option to throw off Pokemon such as Double Dance Primal Groudon, Ultra Necrozma, Arceus-Ground, and Mega Salamence for a turn while still providing an Extreme Speed immunity. Yveltal is very powerful against hyper offense teams, especially Sticky Web teams, not only due to its ability to clear entry hazards with ease but also because it threatens most Pokemon on these archetypes. Yveltal is best used to clear Sticky Web against opposing Yveltal and Chi-Yu, and doing so should leave it with enough health to still serve as a revenge killer later in the game. While Yveltal apreciates Tera to more easily deal with certain threats and remove its Stealth Rock weakness, it should still be used with some caution against hyper offense structures, as doing so removes its immunity to both Spikes and Sticky Web, the latter of which notably preventing it from outspeeding many key threats like Zacian-C and various boosted threats. Yveltal's anti-offense traits enable it to find occasional use on balance and bulky offense teams, as they tend to be vulnerable to Sticky Web, thus making a hazard removing core with other common hazard removers like Ho-Oh and Giratina-O, with the former helping against Calm Mind Arceus formes, while the latter eases the matchup against Coil Zygarde. Against Pokemon such as Eternatus, Arceus-Fairy, and Fezandipiti that wall Yveltal, partners such as Primal Groudon, Zacian-C, and Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM that take care of them are appreciated, so Yveltal can finish off opposing teams late-game. Mega Diancie is an especially good teammate for Yveltal on offensive structures, as it provides additional entry hazard control while being a solid wallbreaker. Additionally, U-turn alleviates Mega Diancie's lackluster longevity by providing it with a safe switch-in against foes such as Arceus-Dark and Coil Zygarde coming in on Yveltal, immediately allowing it to threaten them. Most of the Pokemon Yveltal struggles to threaten such as Zygarde, defensive Ho-Oh, and opposing Yveltal are checked by one or more Eternatus sets, making it a great partner for Yveltal, and the variety of sets Eternatus has lets it assist Yveltal on offense and balance teams. In return, Yveltal checks foes such as Zacian-C, Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM, and Deoxys-A.

戰術分析

Yveltal's amazing STAB combination, which is only resisted by Zacian-C and niche Pokemon like Mega Diancie, in conjunction with Life Orb makes it a potent wallbreaker and stallbreaker for balance, bulky offense, and hyper offense teams alike. This is to the point where it is deemed mandatory on Sticky Web teams due to its efficiency and role compression as a source of priority and strong damage dealer as well as its sheer versatility with its movepool and Terastallization options. Yveltal's Speed tier outside of Sticky Web is also fantastic, outspeeding the majority of the defensive metagame including Pokemon such as Primal Groudon, Zygarde, and Ho-Oh and only being outsped by Calm Mind Arceus formes and Eternatus. It also carries useful defensive traits against Pokemon such as Ultra Necrozma, Deoxys-A, and Marshadow, despite it being weak to Stealth Rock. This makes it more flexible compared to other wallbreakers like Rayquaza and the aforementioned Deoxys-A, which rely much more on pivot support and revenge killing opportunities; this is all while simultaneously being good against opposing offense teams and not being prediction reliant. Oblivion Wing provides Yveltal with a source of longevity, making up for its Stealth Rock weakness and the Life Orb recoil it takes while being useful against foes such as Marshadow, Alomomola, Arceus-Fairy, and Arceus-Dark, with Oblivion Wing being needed to beat the latter two under Sticky Web. Taunt is mandatory on Yveltal, since it allows it to make progress much more easily by punishing more passive Pokemon such as Coil Zygarde, Ferrothorn, and Alomomola. This lets it avoid status conditions such as paralysis and Toxic poison while preventing any setup opportunities from Zygarde, Necrozma-DM, Arceus-Ground, and Zacian-C. It also ensures that entry hazards such as Sticky Web stay up against common Defog users such as defensive Ho-Oh and Giratina-O, especially with Tera Fire for the former to resist Sacred Fire. Sucker Punch allows Yveltal to revenge kill Ultra Necrozma after a single layer of Spikes, Deoxys-A, and Mega Mewtwo Y, making Yveltal good at handling opposing offense teams. Knock Off allows for better wallbreaking against balance and stall teams, notably removing Heavy-Duty Boots from Ho-Oh and opposing defensive Yveltal alongside removing Eviolite from Chansey, all of which Yveltal's teammates can take advantage of. Heat Wave should only be used with Tera Fire and on Sticky Web teams, but it allows Yveltal to snipe Zacian-C, removing one of Yveltal's sturdy checks, but it is significantly less useful than the other two options otherwise. A Naive nature is preferred over Hasty on the first EV spread, since it allows Yveltal to withstand pressure from Marshadow more reliably. It also allows Yveltal to avoid an OHKO from Deoxys-A's Rock Slide even after Stealth Rock chip damage. The secondary EV spread allows Yveltal to avoid several OHKO rolls including Choice Band Rayquaza's Dragon Ascent, Zacian-C's Wild Charge, and Choice Specs Lunala's Moonblast; uninvested Arceus-Fairy's Judgment and defensive Primal Groudon's Overheat after one round of Life Orb recoil; and defensive Primal Kyogre's Ice Beam after Stealth Rock chip damage and one round of Life Orb recoil. This is all while still outspeeding base-95 Speed Pokemon such as Rayquaza and Kyurem-B with a Timid nature, at the cost of not outspeeding Lunala anymore. A Modest nature is not encouraged since outspeeding Rayquaza on Sticky Web teams, as well as maximum Speed Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, Kyurem-B, and Zekrom outside of Sticky Web, is heavily important for Yveltal's effectiveness as a wallbreaker. Tera Dark is the primary Tera type on Yveltal, bringing its damage to all new heights. It notably lets Yveltal OHKO Eruption Primal Groudon and Rayquaza and 2HKO defensive Primal Kyogre and Ho-Oh, all with Dark Pulse. It also lets Yveltal more reliably OHKO Ultra Necrozma with Sucker Punch, which is necessary for the second EV spread, as it runs a Timid nature. Tera Dark also removes Yveltal's weakness to Stealth Rock, giving it more longevity despite struggling slightly more against Marshadow, since it no longer takes neutral damage from Low Kick. Tera Flying boosts the power of Oblivion Wing, letting Yveltal 2HKO Arceus-Fairy after Stealth Rock and defensive Yveltal as well as have a small chance to 2HKO Calm Mind Arceus-Dark after Stealth Rock, thus allowing it to muscle through these Arceus formes under Sticky Web. Removing the Dark-type from Yveltal is especially useful to punish Arceus-Fairy harder, although Yveltal no longer resists Ghost-type attacks from Marshadow and Lunala. Tera Fire lets Heat Wave OHKO Zacian-C while letting Yveltal more safely deal with defensive Ho-Oh and the aforementioned Arceus-Fairy. This arguably makes Tera Fire the best Terastallization option for Sticky Web teams, since Yveltal is strong enough without Tera Dark, although it does not let Yveltal quickly muscle through Arceus-Fairy like Tera Flying does. Tera Fire must only be used on Sticky Web teams, however, since that's the only situation where Heat Wave is useful, and beating Ho-Oh and Arceus-Fairy is only worth exhausting Terastallization for when Yveltal is encouraged to use Taunt to maintain Sticky Web against the former and it is able to outspeed and use Taunt against the latter to win the one-on-one. It is ideal to avoid status conditions as much as possible, especially since Yveltal has poor longevity. Toxic from Eternatus and defensive Arceus-Dark reduces Yveltal's longevity drastically, while Oblivion Wing struggles to make up for it. Paralysis from Zygarde and Giratina-O means Yveltal cannot outspeed bulky targets anymore, notably Primal Groudon, Ho-Oh, and Zygarde. Burns from Ho-Oh and Giratina-O drastically weaken Sucker Punch, notably preventing it from OHKOing Mega Mewtwo Y and Ultra Necrozma, even with Tera Dark, although this weakness is heavily mitigated for Tera Fire variants. Outside of hyper offense teams, Yveltal works best early-to-mid game, where it is able to break through physically defensive walls such as Primal Groudon and Zygarde for its teammates. While it appreciates pivot support from Pokemon such as Alomomola and Landorus-T, Yveltal can be used aggressively against moves it is immune to, such as Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades and Lunala's Psyshock; this is extremely risky, however, and it is not ideal to do this frequently since Yveltal is easy to KO with Overheat from Primal Groudon or Moonblast from Lunala, with both OHKOing after one round of Life Orb damage. On Sticky Web teams, wallbreaking is Yveltal's main purpose, and so it should be used early-game to break through physically defensive walls such as Primal Groudon and Zygarde while maintaining Sticky Web and other hazards against Defog users such as Giratina-O and Ho-Oh with Taunt. Against teams with Ultra Necrozma, Deoxys-A, and Mega Mewtwo Y, it is necessary to preserve Sucker Punch Yveltal in order to revenge kill these threats and prevent them from getting out of hand. If Yveltal is running Knock Off instead, not only is it important to run another form of priority, such as Marshadow's Shadow Sneak, but Yveltal may want to play more aggressively with double switches to stop these threats from setting up safely as well as to wallbreak harder against defensive cores including Ho-Oh, Eternatus, and Zygarde. Yveltal is walled by Calm Mind Arceus-Dark, Arceus-Fairy, defensive Eternatus, and Fezandipiti. On hyper offense and bulky offense teams, Behemoth Blade Zacian-C handles all four of these and checks Extreme Killer Arceus, which would otherwise easily revenge kill Yveltal after Life Orb chip damage. Zacian-C appreciates Yveltal breaking through Primal Groudon and Dondozo for it in return. Sticky Web support from Smeargle or Shuckle helps Yveltal prevent Calm Mind Arceus-Dark from setting up on it, letting Yveltal beat it and even Arceus-Fairy as well with Tera Flying or Fire one-on-one. Smeargle also removes Stealth Rock with Mortal Spin or Rapid Spin, assisting in Yveltal's longevity. Meteor Beam Eternatus is able to break past Arceus-Fairy and opposing Eternatus and snipe Ho-Oh with Meteor Beam while appreciating Yveltal breaking through Necrozma-DM. Finally, Chi-Yu can help overwhelm common checks with Yveltal, such as Arceus-Fairy and Eternatus; it too has Taunt to maintain Sticky Web. On bulky offense and balance teams, Primal Groudon is a great partner, since it appreciates Yveltal breaking past Zygarde and Giratina-O for it and Primal Groudon can check Arceus-Fairy, Zacian-C, and defensive Primal Kyogre while supporting Yveltal with entry hazards. Offensive Ho-Oh is a similar case, checking Arceus-Fairy and Arceus-Dark, and it helps deal with Yveltal's weakness to Stealth Rock with Defog support while potentially weakening foes such as Eternatus with Thunder Wave for Yveltal to punish later. Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM and Dragon Dance Zygarde appreciate Yveltal breaking through common defensive walls such as Primal Groudon, Coil Zygarde, and Giratina-O for their late-game sweeps, while Coil Zygarde is useful for paralysis support and as a blanket check to physical threats such as Primal Groudon and offensive Ho-Oh that may want to trade with Yveltal.
