Abomasnow is a chilling offensive tank courtesy of its offensive typing and the combination of Snow Warning and Blizzard. Giga Drain provides consistent recovery for Abomasnow and hits Water-types like Clawitzer and Poliwrath, though Leaf Storm can be used for immediate burst damage at the cost of lowering its offensive stats and forgoing healing. Earth Power is Abomasnow's strongest option against Steel-types like Magneton as well as Typhlosion. Heavy-Duty Boots covers Abomasnow's Stealth Rock vulnerability so it can effectively tank attacks and set up Aurora Veil. While other Pokemon are preferred for Terastallization, Tera Water can help in a pinch to shield Abomasnow from Fire-types like Charizard and Typhlosion. Abomasnow tends to fit on offensive and balanced builds thanks to its offensive typing and the support provided by Aurora Veil. Offensive pivots like Mesprit and Jolteon appreciate it to better take damage from potential Choice Scarf users like opposing Mesprit and Hisuian Sneasel; Jolteon also benefits from having a more threatening coverage move under snow with Ice-type Weather Ball. Beartic particularly stands out as a partner, benefiting from the Defense boost under snow and having its sweeping capabilities enabled with Slush Rush. Other setup sweepers like Minor, Hisuian Sneasel, and Nasty Plot Mesprit benefit from the extra bulk under Aurora Veil giving them more opportunities to break or sweep. Abomasnow's plethora of weaknesses leaves it vulnerable to U-turn users and Fire-types; defensive backbones like Poliwrath, Mesprit, and Muk can provide support with their bulk and utility moves. Abomasnow can, in return, switch into weaker walls like Dipplin and Sandslash to threaten them away with powerful STAB moves. Hazard deterrents like Hattrem and Sandslash stand out as notable teammates, with the former providing Magic Bounce, paralysis, and Healing Wish support, while the latter can remove hazards and provide Knock Off utility.

Thanks to its ability to set snow and Aurora Veil, Abomasnow is a valuable choice for Ice-type teams. Its Grass typing provides a way to deal with Water-types such as Azumarill, Basculegion, and Quagsire. Giga Drain is its main STAB move, dealing damage while providing recovery for Abomasnow. Alternatively, it can use Grass Knot in replacement of Giga Drain, allowing it to 2HKO Dondozo. Earth Power allows Abomasnow to hit Steel- and Fire-types, 2HKOing Archaludon and Torkoal and OHKOing offensive Heatran on the switch. The given EV spread allows Abomasnow to outspeed defensive Rotom-W, some defensive Gholdengo spreads, and Adamant Azumarill. Abomasnow can run either Icy Rock for more snow turns, which is preferred in Cetitan teams, or Light Clay for more Aurora Veil turns. Abomasnow best acts as a secondary hail setter alongside Alolan Ninetales. Cetitan highly appreciates Abomasnow's snow, as it can utilize Slush Rush to outspeed threats such as Iron Moth, Walking Wake, and Iron Treads. With Earthquake, it serves as a good sweeper against Poison, Steel, and Fire teams, which Abomasnow struggles to go against. Other setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Glastrier and Cloyster enjoy the Defense boost in snow, increasing their survivability and letting them set up and sweep the opposing team. Froslass provides team support in Taunt and its own hazards in Spikes, as well as Destiny Bond, which can take out a foe and give Abomasnow a free switch-in. Avalugg's great Defense and access to Rapid Spin make it a great teammate under snow, checking the likes of Bisharp, Iron Treads, and Urshifu-R while also acting as hazard control for its team.

Abomasnow fulfills a unique niche on Grass teams as the best dual screens setter that the type has access to. With Aurora Veil and its ability Snow Warning, it can significantly decrease the amount of damage common setup sweepers on Grass teams take, such as Sinistcha and the Ogerpon formes. Blizzard's perfect accuracy in snow and high Base Power threatens Flying- and Grass-types like Mandibuzz, Amoonguss, and Sinistcha. Avalanche is also a viable option due to its boosted Base Power being very easy for Abomasnow to activate, which makes it a great option against Pokemon like Dragonite who have lower Physical Defense than Special Defense. Ice Shard's priority hits fast, Ice-weak Pokemon like Landorus, Garchomp, and Gliscor and picks off weakened foes. Body Press offers some form of offensive threat potential against Steel-types like Hisuian Goodra and Ice-types like Cetitan and Weavile. Leech Seed is also another good option to prevent passivity, as it allows Abomasnow to apply some chip damage and recovery that can also be transferred to its teammates. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Abomasnow to come into the field more often in the face of entry hazards. Alternatively, Light Clay's three extra turns of Aurora Veil give you more turns to make your setup sweepers tankier. Ogerpon-H greatly benefits from Abomasnow's dual screens, as it allows it to easily set up in front of threats like Garchomp, Roaring Moon, and Power Gem Heatran. Ogerpon-C similarly benefits from Aurora Veil and Snow Warning, allowing it to set up in front of Fire-type attackers like Volcarona after a Quiver Dance and Iron Moth. Both Ogerpon formes also greatly enjoy the additional bulk in conjunction with Horn Leech healing, making them harder to revenge kill. Sinistcha enjoys the additional bulk Abomasnow grants it and, in return, it can switch into Fighting-type attacks from the likes of Urshifu-R, Keldeo, and Skarmory that threaten to KO Abomasnow. Hisuian Lilligant appreciates Abomasnow's Aurora Veil support, as after a Victory Dance, it can be harder for it to be revenge killed by Ice Shard from foes like Mamoswine and Weavile. Hydrapple loves the additional bulk granted by Aurora Veil and especially appreciates Abomasnow's ability to take Ice-type attacks for it. In return, it can switch into the Fire-type attacks that heavily threaten Abomasnow and manage to heal the damage off through Regenerator. Meowscarada likes having Aurora Veil support so that it can be harder to revenge kill through priority like Ice Shard from the previously mentioned Mamoswine and Weavile. Torterra makes great use of Aurora Veil, as after a Shell Smash, it can easily stomach a retaliatory hit and potentially get another one off before proceeding to sweep. Brambleghast makes use of the extra bulk to remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin against Pokemon like Great Tusk and Skarmory, which in return makes it easier for Abomasnow to repeatedly switch onto the field if it is holding Light Clay.

Choice Scarf grants Abomasnow more opportunities to wallbreak and check foes like Galarian Articuno and Charizard that would otherwise outspeed it. Earth Power has good coverage alongside Abomasnow's STAB moves, letting it hit Steel-types such as Doublade and Togedemaru. Alternatively, Focus Blast leaves Abomasnow reliant on Blizzard to wear down Doublade but hits Audino harder. Rock Slide allows Abomasnow to OHKO Charizard and Frosmoth. Wood Hammer can be run with a Naive nature to 2HKO Gigalith after Stealth Rock, but be wary of recoil, especially given Abomasnow's Stealth Rock weakness. Gallade makes for a solid partner, as it can beat foes like Audino and Togedemaru that Abomasnow can struggle to get past due to their bulk and ability to scout. Other special attackers such as Jolteon and Ribombee appreciate Abomasnow's ability to wear down Gigalith. As Abomasnow is a Grass-type that provides very little defensive utility, Pokemon that can provide a secondary Water or Electric resistance like Wishiwashi and Sandslash are useful. Sandslash is also able to provide entry hazard removal.

While its poor Speed and reliance on prediction make it inconsistent, Abomasnow is a powerful wallbreaker with Choice Specs equipped. Its perfectly accurate Blizzard shreds through walls like Altaria, Tangela, and Rhydon, while its STAB Leaf Storm crushes switch-ins to Ice-type attacks like Poliwrath and Piloswine. Earth Power allows Abomasnow to break through Fire- and Steel-types like Rapidash and Klinklang. Focus Blast nails Miltank, who can switch into Blizzard with Thick Fat or Leaf Storm with Sap Sipper. The read-heavy nature of Abomasnow's playstyle makes it very appreciative of VoltTurn support. Offensive pivots like Rotom, Kabutops, and the Silvally formes can chip down foes and provide as many safe opportunities for Abomasnow to attack as possible. This chip damage is further accentuated by entry hazard support from Rhydon, Uxie, and Qwilfish. To prevent Abomasnow itself from being worn down by entry hazards, teammates that can remove them like Silvally-Poison, Altaria, and Cramorant prove to be extremely helpful. Morpeko is an offensive entry hazard remover that can also use Parting Shot to get Abomasnow onto the field after entry hazards have been cleared. Because of its long list of weaknesses, a strong defensive backbone is necessary. Checks to notable Fire-, Steel-, and Poison-types include Miltank, Stunfisk, and Throh, respectively.

战术分析
Abomasnow becomes a threatening physical wallbreaker after a Swords Dance boost, thanks to its fierce STAB combination and good coverage. A boosted Wood Hammer completely demolishes common walls, like Poliwrath, Rhydon, and Clefairy. That said, its poor Speed and defensive profile make it hard to consistently set up. It usually is only able to reliably switch into extremely passive walls, like Miltank and Clefairy, and Choice-locked attackers like Thwackey and Rotom; otherwise, faster threats like Sawk and Rapidash prevent it from setting up. Ice Shard catches revenge killers like Rotom and Thwackey after a boost and, despite its low power, is still good enough coverage against Altaria and Gourgeist-S. Earthquake is a necessary coverage move, hitting Steel- and Fire-type Pokemon on the switch. Vital parts of facilitating Abomasnow's breaking ability are keeping hazards up and chipping down foes. Because of that, Spikes-stacking offense teams are very capable of supporting Abomasnow's capabilities. Qwilfish, Coalossal, and Froslass are some key Spikers, with Qwilfish resisting many of Abomasnow's biggest weaknesses. VoltTurn users like Manectric, Rotom, Kabutops, and the Silvally formes similarly bring down foes' health while keeping up momentum. These Pokemon can also revenge kill faster threats that may threaten Abomasnow, including Sawk and Rapidash. There also are some defensive teammates that can handle revenge killers, like Rapidash and Froslass, including Stealth Rock setters such as Miltank and Rhydon. Walls like Clefairy and Stunfisk can spread paralysis, which lets Abomasnow sweep more easily against Alolan Persian and the Silvally formes.

Moves Swords Dance gives Mega Abomasnow a very useful power boost, making Wood Hammer remarkably hard to switch into. Wood Hammer is the preferred Grass-type STAB attack, as it hits the hardest out of any Grass-type STAB moves Mega Abomasnow has in its arsenal. Ice Shard also becomes a lot more useful after a Swords Dance boost, letting it pick off weakened offensive teams, prevent frail Pokemon such as Heliolisk and Accelgor from revenge killing Mega Abomasnow, and hit the likes of Sceptile and Braviary hard courtesy of their weakness to Ice. Lastly, Earthquake is Mega Abomasnow's best bet against Incineroar, Delphox, and Silvally-Steel. Set Details Soundproof helps Mega Abomasnow handle Heliolisk and Vikavolt before Mega Evolution, whereas Snow Warning is Mega Abomasnow's only ability after Mega Evolution and can spread chip damage. Maximum Attack and Speed investment amplifies Mega Abomasnow's firepower and quickness. A Jolly nature is ideal to outrun Vaporeon; however, Adamant can be used for extra power, which is especially important to pick up the OHKO on Heliolisk with +2 Ice Shard after Stealth Rock and always 2HKO offensive Incineroar with Earthquake at -1. Usage Tips This set can either break through bulkier teams or pick off weakened offensive ones, so make sure to identify what role it should play. Pokemon packing Protect like Vaporeon and Xatu will often use the move in front of Mega Abomasnow, so if you know they have the move and they don't know what Mega Abomasnow set you are, it could be really helpful to Swords Dance while they use Protect. There's also not too much room to punish this move even if they don't, as both the aforementioned Pokemon are forced out. Try catching the likes of Delphox, Silvally-Steel, and Incineroar with an Earthquake, as they'll likely switch into Mega Abomasnow. You can also lure and take out Hariyama, as it switches into mixed sets just fine but gets throttled by a +2 Wood Hammer. Switching into Water-types like Vaporeon and Slowking may seem like a good plan, but be very mindful of a potential Scald burn, as well as Fire-type coverage from the latter. Make sure to Mega Evolve when the time is right, as if your opponent has a Heliolisk or a Vikavolt, it can be helpful to preserve regular Abomasnow's Soundproof ability. Likewise, outspeeding the likes of Golbat and Garbodor could be helpful prior to Mega Evolution, so keep that in mind. Team Options Xatu provides essential entry hazard control, but Defoggers like Rotom and Silvally-Steel are just as reasonable. Note that all three can also bring Mega Abomasnow in via their respective pivoting moves. Fast teammates like Heliolisk and Choice Scarf Passimian make up for Mega Abomasnow's lack of speed and appreciate it punching holes in the opposing team for them to clean up late-game. Vaporeon is a great teammate, as it handles most Pokemon that switch into Mega Abomasnow and can pass Wishes to it and provide cleric support. Teammates such as Swords Dance Samurott, Swords Dance Absol, and Accelgor can weaken Passimian to get it in range of a boosted Ice Shard. Lastly, reliable Stealth Rock setters, such as Rhydon, Druddigon, and Piloswine, prevent the likes of Incineroar and Delphox from reliably checking Abomasnow. Druddigon also provides speed control with Glare.

Moves Blizzard is Mega Abomasnow's go-to choice for an attacking move, as it has plenty of power and perfect accuracy under hail. Giga Drain is the preferred option for mixed sets, as it gives Mega Abomasnow some valuable longevity, which is important, since Mega Abomasnow is susceptible to residual damage from entry hazards and status conditions. Focus Blast has great coverage alongside Blizzard and hits the likes of Incineroar, Silvally-Steel, and Cryogonal for great damage. Earthquake can be used instead for a harder hit on Delphox and Togedemaru, but it does a lot less damage to the three aforementioned Focus Blast targets. Substitute helps Mega Abomasnow avoid revenge killing from Pokemon such as Passimian and Aerodactyl and eases prediction. Alternatively, Ice Shard mitigates Mega Abomasnow's measly Speed and can be helpful to pick off the likes of weakened Braviary and Heliolisk. Set Details Soundproof is the preferred ability before Mega Evolution, as it lets Abomasnow switch into Heliolisk and Vikavolt. It also means Mega Abomasnow gets to summon hail instead of its regular counterpart, which gives more hail turns and also means teammates won't take unnecessary hail damage. Maximum Special Attack investment with a boosting nature is preferred to boost the power of its STAB moves. Maximum Speed investment lets Mega Abomasnow outspeed pivot Incineroar. A Mild nature should be picked over Rash, as Mega Abomasnow is much more likely to be tanking special hits, such as Heliolisk's Thunderbolt and Seismitoad or Vaporeon's Scald. Usage Tips Mega Abomasnow should come into walls it doesn't mind, such as Xatu and Vaporeon; however, it should scout for Toxic from them. Xatu and Vaporeon also often pack Protect, which mandates being careful with PP and is yet another reason Toxic should be feared. Blizzard is generally low risk and should be used frequently early-game, as most of Mega Abomasnow's checks lack reliable recovery. Incineroar and Delphox are also vulnerable to entry hazards, so they can't afford to switch into Blizzard too often when hazards are up. Checks like Incineroar, Delphox, and Silvally-Steel are likely to switch in, so if your team struggles to get up hazards against your opponent's or they have some sort of Wish support, it might be worthwhile to predict their switch-ins and go for Mega Abomasnow's coverage moves. Make sure to pressure hazard setters with Mega Abomasnow and attempt to keep it healthy via Giga Drain, as hazards harm Mega Abomasnow's ability to switch in. Finally, a point important to keep in mind is whether or not to Mega Evolve; for example, if your opponent has a Heliolisk or a Vikavolt, it might be smart to keep Abomasnow at its regular forme to handle those, and the same applies to the likes of Dhelmise, which Abomasnow will only outspeed prior to Mega Evolution. Team Options Xatu prevents entry hazards from going up and provides U-turn support for Mega Abomasnow. Likewise, Defoggers like Rotom and Silvally-Steel are plausible picks as well. They also can bring Mega Abomasnow in safely via Volt Switch and Parting Shot, respectively. Faster teammates that appreciate Mega Abomasnow's wallbreaking efforts such as Heliolisk and Choice Scarf Passimian are great allies, and they also make up for Mega Abomasnow's lackluster Speed and provide VoltTurn support. Cleaners like Comfey are also notable for similar reasons. Hazard setters are also important teammates, especially those that can get hazards up against a plenitude of Defoggers and Xatu, such as Rhydon, Curse Steelix, and Piloswine. Lastly, Vaporeon is a very valuable teammate, as it provides Wish and Heal Bell support while covering many foes that threaten Mega Abomasnow, such as Passimian and Fire-types. Delphox and Slowking also help in a similar vein, as both check the aforementioned Passimian and Fire-types, whereas the former can also provide Wish support.

Moves Blizzard is Abomasnow's strongest STAB option, and it hits Pokemon such as Dodrio and Oricorio-E super effectively. Giga Drain is Abomasnow's Grass-type STAB attack that gives it a form of recovery and hits some Pokemon that resist Blizzard such as Jellicent, Kabutops, and Aurorus. Focus Blast gives Abomasnow coverage for Steel-types like Alolan Sandslash that would otherwise wall Abomasnow. Earthquake hits Fire-types such as Simisear and Combusken and can hit Steel-types like Aggron more reliably than Focus Blast. It also allows Abomasnow to 2HKO physically frail Pokemon such as Jynx. Energy Ball can be run over Giga Drain for slightly more power, but Abomasnow prefers the ability to regain health. Set Details 252 EVs in Special Attack and Speed maximize Abomasnow's offensive presence. A Choice Scarf, when combined with a Naive nature, allows Abomasnow to outspeed everything under base 115 Speed, such as Oricorio-E, and it also lets Abomasnow outspeed some boosted Pokemon such as +2 Carracosta. Snow Warning, on top of giving Blizzard perfect accuracy, can be used to stop opposing weathers, which lets Abomasnow revenge kill weather sweepers such as Kabutops and Shiftry. A Naive nature is used so that Abomasnow does not weaken Earthquake and takes decreased damage from priority attacks such as Lycanroc's Accelerock. Usage Tips With a Choice Scarf, Abomasnow can serve as a decently fast wallbreaker; it is especially effective against hyper offensive teams, as they often struggle to have a reliable switch-in for Abomasnow's attacks. It does well against weather-based teams, as it can be brought in on a free switch or on a predicted move like Swords Dance on Pokemon such as Kabutops and Leafeon. By negating the weather, Abomasnow is able to outspeed them and pick up the KO. Its Speed also allows Abomasnow to serve as an overall decent revenge killer and cleaner. On top of being brought in after a teammate is KOed, it can also be brought in with the help of a slow pivot such as Eelektross or Lanturn. These methods are used to bring Abomasnow in because it is rather frail and needs to stay healthy to perform its role optimally. Your opponent can struggle to predict Abomasnow's item from Team Preview, so it can take advantage of this to lure in otherwise faster threats such as Simisear that would generally stay in against it or come in to revenge kill it. However, be wary that without an item that boosts its power, Abomasnow's damage output can be somewhat underwhelming at times, and it often requires foes to be weakened before it can KO them. Also be aware that once Abomasnow's Choice Scarf has been revealed, it becomes much easier for the opponent to play around. Team Options Setup sweepers such as Oricorio-G and Alolan Raticate appreciate Abomasnow's ability to lure in and take out faster threats such as Dodrio. In return, these setup sweepers can weaken the opposing team before Abomasnow comes in to clean. Wallbreakers like Simisear are also good partners for this reason. Alolan Raticate can also support Abomasnow by using Knock Off on faster Choice Scarf users like Skuntank and Alolan Sandslash. Entry hazard setters such as Mudsdale and Golurk can help whittle down the opposing team, making it even easier for Abomasnow to clean. Eelektross is another good partner that can support Abomasnow with Knock Off and bring it in safely with a slow Volt Switch. While Abomasnow can serve as a decent revenge killer and cleaner, it is not the best way to keep faster foes in check, so teams may want a second Choice Scarf user to more reliably fulfill that role, such as Primeape. Due to its weakness to Stealth Rock and other hazards, Abomasnow appreciates having a form of hazard removal on its team, such as Skuntank or Silvally-Fairy.

Moves Swords Dance boosts Abomasnow's Attack stat, allowing it to more easily break through certain walls such as Clefairy and Eelektross. Wood Hammer serves as Abomasnow's main Grass-type STAB attack, hitting Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types such as Carracosta, Regirock, and Mudsdale, although using it comes at the cost of taking a good amount of recoil. Bloom Doom coming from Wood Hammer more easily breaks through bulky foes such as Gurdurr and Type: Null, and it also ignores the recoil of Wood Hammer. Seed Bomb is an alternate option over Wood Hammer when running a Life Orb because it does not deal additional recoil damage. Ice Shard is Abomasnow's best way to make up for its lackluster Speed; it hits Pokemon such as Dodrio and Oricorio-G and can be decently powerful when combined with a Swords Dance boost. Earthquake hits Steel-types such as Aggron and Probopass, which can otherwise take any attack except +2 Bloom Doom. It can also be used to hit faster Fire- and Steel-types such as Simisear and Alolan Sandslash on the switch. Blizzard is an alternative option that can serve as a decently powerful Ice-type STAB attack; in particular, it hits physically bulky Pokemon like Tangela and Lurantis that would otherwise wall Abomasnow. However, this leaves it much more vulnerable to Fire- and Steel-types. Set Details 252 EVs in Attack and Speed allow Abomasnow to more easily sweep and break through walls. A Jolly or Hasty nature enables Abomasnow to outspeed Pokemon such as Timid Aurorus and Jolly Golurk. While a Jolly nature is run when using Earthquake, a Hasty nature is used alongside Blizzard to maximize its power. An Adamant or Lonely nature can be run to further raise Abomasnow’s Attack, but this leaves it unable to outspeed the aforementioned Aurorus and Golurk. Grassium Z with Wood Hammer lets Abomasnow use a 190-Base Power Bloom Doom, which lacks the recoil of Wood Hammer and can break past walls like Type: Null. If the team has another Z-Move user, Abomasnow can instead run a Life Orb to boost its overall power. It is run along with Seed Bomb, as Wood Hammer's recoil would otherwise stack with the Life Orb's. Usage Tips Abomasnow should take advantage of the Attack boost from Swords Dance to break through bulkier Pokemon such as Clefairy and Musharna so a teammate can come in to clean up. Through a combination of Swords Dance and Ice Shard, Abomasnow can also serve as a decent late-game cleaner, and it can also be used as a setup sweeper, ideally after threats such as Primeape and Stoutland have been KOed or at least put in range of Ice Shard. Abomasnow should set up against bulkier Pokemon that can do little to it, such as Claydol and Audino, although it should stay wary of moves such as Encore and Toxic. Abomasnow can also take advantage of its overall unpredictability to lure in certain Pokemon that can give its other sets trouble such as Clefairy and Type: Null, and it can scare away Pokemon that can deal with the Swords Dance set, such as Tangela. If running Blizzard, Abomasnow can further attempt to bluff its mixed wallbreaker set. Even without a Swords Dance boost, Abomasnow can still put a dent in the opponent's team due to the high Base Power of Wood Hammer and Blizzard, and it can serve as a decent revenge killer with Ice Shard. Abomasnow should be brought onto the field with the help of a slow pivot such as Eelektross or Lanturn, after a teammate has been KOed, or against a predicted non-damaging move such as Clefairy's Stealth Rock or Soft-Boiled. Team Options Fast Pokemon such as Alolan Persian appreciate Abomasnow's ability to weaken specially defensive walls that give them trouble such as Gastrodon and Audino, while they in return can help clean up weakened Pokemon and break down physical walls that can potentially stop Abomasnow from sweeping, such as Tangela and Sableye. Thunder Wave users such as Regirock and Clefairy can help cripple faster threats such as Primeape and Floatzel, allowing Abomasnow to outspeed them, but be aware that Abomasnow needs to run a positive Speed nature to outspeed a paralyzed Choice Scarf Primeape. Regirock and Clefairy can also help wear the opponent's team down with Stealth Rock and can serve as soft checks for Fire-types. Probopass stacks a weakness to Fighting-type attacks, but it can serve as a slow pivot and can trap Steel-types that give Abomasnow trouble, such as Alolan Sandslash. Due to Abomasnow's weakness to entry hazards, Pokemon that can provide hazard removal such as Skuntank and Silvally-Water are also appreciated.

Moves Blizzard serves as Abomasnow's main STAB attack, and its high Base Power allows Abomasnow to hit bulky Pokemon such as Tangela. It also does not have to worry about missing thanks to Snow Warning. Giga Drain is another STAB move that supplies coverage against Water-types and some other Ice-resistant Pokemon, such as Carracosta, Lanturn, Qwilfish, and Aurorus. It also gives Abomasnow a form of recovery that pairs well with Life Orb. Wood Hammer is an alternative Grass-type STAB move that can hit certain specially defensive threats such as Clefairy and Eelektross, but it causes Abomasnow to take significant recoil damage. Earthquake gives Abomasnow a way to hit Fire- and Steel-types such as Simisear and Alolan Sandslash on the switch in. Focus Blast is an alternate coverage option over Earthquake that still hits Steel-types and also hits certain Pokemon that are neutral to Earthquake like Type: Null and Munchlax, though at the cost of lower accuracy. Ice Shard allows Abomasnow to threaten faster foes and KO frailer or weakened Pokemon, such as Oricorio-G, boosted Torterra, and Dodrio. Set Details 252 EVs in Special Attack and Speed and a Life Orb let Abomasnow hit as strong and fast as possible. A Hasty nature allows it to outspeed Pokemon such as Timid Aurorus and Modest Ludicolo. Abomasnow can also run a Mild nature in order to hit harder at the cost of being outsped by the aforementioned threats. In both cases, a Defense-lowering nature is used over a Special Defense-lowering one so Abomasnow can more easily check certain special Water- and Grass-types, such as non-Hidden Power Fire Lanturn and Bellossom, without weakening its physical attacks. Snow Warning increases the accuracy of Blizzard, whittles down foes, and restricts the recovery of Pokemon like Musharna to ease Abomasnow's attempts to break through them. Usage Tips Abomasnow should be used to break slower and bulkier foes such as Drampa, Gastrodon, and Sableye. This should be done early- to mid-game so that late-game sweepers and cleaners can have an easier time fulfilling their roles. Be wary that many of these bulkier Pokemon will switch out immediately when Abomasnow is brought in, so be prepared to double switch or use Earthquake or Focus Blast in order to KO a predicted Fire- or Steel-type switch-in. Abomasnow can also wear them down over time, as they take a decent amount from Blizzard and hail's chip damage. Abomasnow should not switch directly into attacks, as it needs to stay as healthy as possible in order to effectively wallbreak. It can be brought in with a slow U-turn or Volt Switch user, such as Type: Null or Lanturn, or after a teammate has been KOed. Abomasnow can also make use of aggressive double switches to come in safely. Ice Shard should be used to revenge kill weakened faster foes such as Scyther and Dodrio. Abomasnow can take advantage of Giga Drain to regain health lost from Life Orb recoil, entry hazards, or any other forms of damage. Team Options Fast Pokemon such as Floatzel and setup sweepers such as Alolan Raichu, Carracosta, and Lycanroc appreciate Abomasnow's ability to break down bulkier foes such as Regirock and Eelektross so that they can more easily clean late-game. Fire-type checks such as Silvally-Dragon and Lanturn can help against Pokemon such as Simisear that can give Abomasnow trouble. Fighting-types such as Primeape and Hitmonchan can also give Abomasnow issues, so Pokemon such as Jellicent, Oricorio-G, and Silvally-Fairy can come in handy. Slow pivots such as Eelektross and Lanturn can take hits in order to bring Abomasnow in safely. Stealth Rock and other entry hazards work well with hail to whittle down foes such as Regirock and Lanturn, making them easier for Abomasnow to break through. Good examples of hazard setters include Mudsdale and Qwilfish. Conversely, Abomasnow dislikes having to take damage from entry hazards, especially Stealth Rock, so hazard removers such as Skuntank and Hitmonchan can keep Abomasnow healthy. Finally, Abomasnow can form a decent core with Alolan Sandslash, which takes advantage of Snow Warning thanks to Slush Rush, can remove entry hazards for Abomasnow using Rapid Spin, and breaks through certain special walls such as Clefairy. In return, Abomasnow can break through certain physical walls like Jellicent.

Moves Swords Dance boosts Abomasnow's Attack to incredible levels, making it extremely difficult to come into safely. Wood Hammer is an immensely powerful STAB move with few reliable switch-ins. Ice Shard slightly patches up Abomasnow's poor Speed and gives it some sort of defense versus faster threats, and it also gives it a way to clean weakened teams. Earthquake hits Steel- and Fire-types for more damage than anything else that Abomasnow has to offer. Set Details Investing 252 EVs into Speed lets Abomasnow outpace uninvested base 50 Speed Pokemon such as Registeel and other threats such as Dragalge and Rhyperior. The investment also allows base Abomasnow to outspeed uninvested Milotic so that it OHKOes Milotic with Wood Hammer before it can potentially be burned by Scald. Soundproof gives base Abomasnow the ability to pivot into attacks like Swellow's Boomburst. Usage Tips Set up Swords Dance on Pokemon threatened by Abomasnow's STAB moves, such as Rhyperior, Donphan, and Roserade. Abomasnow can also use its decent resistances and solid bulk to set up on a few offensive Pokemon, such as Zygarde-10% and Shaymin. After setting up, Abomasnow is devastatingly strong; use its immense power to blow huge holes in the opposition. Swords Dance Abomasnow can punish teams that rely on Registeel to check Abomasnow, as it is not a reliable answer to this set. Abomasnow can also function as a late-game cleaner with Swords Dance-boosted Ice Shard, so preserving it to do so is not a bad idea. Abomasnow has a few qualities that give choosing when to Mega Evolve a strategic component, such as choosing to Mega Evolve after an opposing weather setter has hit the field to disrupt the opposing team, or holding off on doing so to hit Milotic with Wood Hammer before it is able to attack. Be wary when switching Abomasnow into Pokemon that use sound moves, as they are all capable of OHKOing Abomasnow—some examples are Swellow with Heat Wave and Yanmega with Air Slash. Team Options This Mega Abomasnow set focuses on breaking through balance teams; as such, cleaners such as Zygarde-10%, Swellow, and Choice Scarf Gardevoir take advantage of the holes Abomasnow leaves in the opposition. Fire-type checks, such as Milotic, Flygon, Tyrantrum, and Rhyperior, are essential to cover Abomasnow's crippling Fire weakness. Partners with hazard control such as Mandibuzz and Flygon help to mitigate Abomasnow's weakness to entry hazards. Checks to Fighting-types such as Noivern, Slowbro, and Xatu are recommended to cover Abomasnow's other major weakness. Teammates that share mutual checks like Registeel with Abomasnow, including Gardevoir, Shaymin, and Goodra, appreciate Abomasnow's ability to heavily dent their mutual checks. Choice Scarf Tyrantrum is an especially notable partner, as it easily checks one of the biggest Fire-type threats in Salazzle and is extremely potent after opposing bulky Steel-types are weakened or removed by Abomasnow. Pokemon to draw in bulky Water- and Grass-types, such as Araquanid and Flygon, bring in the type of Pokemon that Abomasnow can set up on well.

Moves Blizzard is a powerful STAB move with no drawbacks under hail and few reliable switch-ins. Wood Hammer is another strong STAB move that nails Water-types that resist Blizzard. Giga Drain is less powerful, but it has the boon of giving Abomasnow more longevity, allowing it to come onto the field more often. Ice Shard somewhat mitigates Abomasnow's crippling Speed, and it is especially valuable in picking off threats such as Swellow, Roserade, Zygarde-10%, and Flygon. Focus Blast hits Steel-types like Registeel and Bronzong and is Abomasnow's strongest tool versus Porygon2, Snorlax, and Umbreon, which otherwise wall it. Earthquake is an option to hit Steel- and Fire-types with more reliable accuracy, with the cost of being weaker versus all relevant Steel-types and missing out on Pokemon such as Porygon2 and Snorlax. Set Details 164 Speed EVs allow Abomasnow to outpace uninvested base 50 Speed Pokemon, most notably Registeel. Maximum Special Attack gives Abomasnow's primary STAB move, Blizzard, the most power; a Rash or Mild nature being used so that the power of Ice Shard and Earthquake is not compromised, and not weakening its ability to switch into Pokemon such as Zygarde-10% and Donphan in the case of Rash variants, while Mild variants can more comfortably switch into threats like Raikou and Slowbro. The rest of the EVs go into Attack, guaranteeing that Registeel is 3HKOed by Earthquake and that Flygon is KOed by the combination of Ice Shard and hail damage. Soundproof is used as the ability, as it can potentially give Abomasnow free switches into attacks such as Swellow's Boomburst and Yanmega's Bug Buzz, although both have super-effective coverage that can heavily weaken Abomasnow. Usage Tips Bring Abomasnow into weaker attacks, especially those it resists, such as Steelix's Earthquake and Milotic's Scald, and use its powerful STAB moves to break down teams. However, be wary of Scald burns if using Wood Hammer. Note that Earthquake is only necessary to use for Fire- and Steel-types aside from Bronzong; otherwise, prioritize throwing out stronger STAB attacks. Ice Shard is a fantastic tool that allows Abomasnow to threaten a lot of Pokemon that would otherwise be unafraid of it, especially faster Ice-weak Pokemon such as Roserade, Nidoqueen, and Flygon. Abomasnow has a few qualities that give choosing when to Mega Evolve a strategic component, such as choosing to Mega Evolve after an opposing weather setter has hit the field to disrupt the opposing team, or remaining in base forme to hit Milotic with a Grass-type move before it is able to attack. Note that outspeeding minimum Speed Milotic with non-Mega Abomasnow requires 172 Speed EVs. Be wary when switching Abomasnow into Pokemon that use sound moves, as they are all capable of OHKOing Abomasnow—Swellow with Heat Wave and Ribombee with Hidden Power Fire are some examples. Team Options Fire-type checks such as Snorlax, Diancie, and Dragalge are able to switch into the greatest threats to Abomasnow. Checks to Fighting-types such as Uxie, Golbat, and Gardevoir are recommended to cover Abomasnow's other major weakness. Partners with hazard control such as Sigilyph and Espeon help to mitigate Abomasnow's weakness to entry hazards. Cleaners such as Zygarde-10%, Swellow, and Choice Scarf Tyrantrum make good teammates to take advantage of the holes Abomasnow leaves in the opposition. Pokemon to draw in bulky Water- and Grass-types, such as Metagross and Flygon, bring in the type of Pokemon that Abomasnow can switch in to well. U-turn or Volt Switch users like Uxie, Raikou, and Flygon are useful to give Abomasnow more opportunities to get on the field.

Moves Blizzard is Mega Abomasnow's main STAB attack, which provides powerful spread coverage and is perfectly accurate in hail. Giga Drain is a secondary STAB attack that allows Mega Abomasnow to beat Water-types, such as Tapu Fini and Gastrodon, while also providing health recovery. In a pinch, Ice Shard lets Mega Abomasnow snipe down a weakened target, notably Zygarde or Landorus-T, outside of Trick Room. Hidden Power Fire is another option to lure and hit Steel-types like Genesect, Mega Metagross, and Mega Scizor for super effective damage. Protect allows Abomasnow to stall out a turn while its partner deals with anything threatening, and it is also useful for keeping Abomasnow safe while its teammate sets Trick Room. Set Details The given spread maximizes bulk and power behind Blizzard, with the remaining 4 EVs dumped into Attack to power up Ice Shard. A Quiet nature with 0 Speed IVs allows Mega Abomasnow to move as fast as possible inside of Trick Room. Snow Warning is the preferred pre-Mega ability, as it gives Abomasnow two chances to set hail against opposing weather teams before being forced to switch out. Usage Tips Mega Abomasnow is typically most effective as a mid-game sweeper, being sent in to attack after Trick Room has been set up. You should typically wait until you have a safe switch to bring in Abomasnow; in many cases, this means waiting until a teammate faints before you bring it in. Abomasnow is quite frail in comparison to Mega Abomasnow and shares its large number of weaknesses. In some situations, however, it makes sense to lead with Abomasnow to set hail early on. For example, if you expect your opponent to lead with a frail Focus Sash holder like Deoxys-A, leading with Abomasnow pressures these Pokemon to switch out or risk incurring chip damage from Hail. If they don't switch out, Abomasnow can also snipe them down on the following turn with Ice Shard. With an immunity to powder moves and access to strong Ice STAB, Abomasnow makes a decent answer to Amoonguss, a Pokemon that otherwise troubles Trick Room teams when Misty or Electric Terrain isn't activated. Team Options Trick Room setters like Porygon2, Bronzong, and Diancie are necessary to unlock Mega Abomasnow's full potential, since its low speed severely hinders it outside of Trick Room. Fire-types like Incineroar and Volcanion have fantastic synergy with Abomasnow, clearing out the Steel-types that Abomasnow doesn't want to deal with. In return, Abomasnow helps deal with opposing Water-types like Tapu Fini and Suicune and Ground-types like Landorus-T and Zygarde. Tapu Fini or Tapu Lele are the preferred Island Guardians to pair with Mega Abomasnow; Tapu Bulu, while an option for powering up Grass-type attacks, shares many common weaknesses with Abomasnow, while Tapu Koko's high Speed tier makes it awkward on most Trick Room teams that Mega Abomasnow would find itself on. Tapu Fini has particularly fantastic type synergy with Abomasnow, dealing with Fire-types like Incineroar, which Abomasnow can't stand.

Moves Swords Dance allows Abomasnow to become a deadly physical threat, allowing its Ice Shard to pick off a much wider range of targets that outspeed it and letting it break through most defensive Pokemon without prediction. Ice Shard allows Abomasnow to potentially sweep after a boost or two due to its priority and lack of resistances, and it hits faster targets such as Shiftry, Lilligant, Swellow, and Archeops. It also lets Abomasnow force out other setup sweepers, such as Vivillon, Scyther, and Lilligant, providing itself with opportunities to set up instead. Seed Bomb is a consistent Grass-type attack that deals good damage after a boost, doesn't inflict recoil like Wood Hammer does, is usually powerful enough to get the job done, and lets Abomasnow KO multiple Pokemon without KOing itself afterwards. However, even at +2 Seed Bomb requires Stealth Rock, a round of Hail damage, or an Adamant or Lonely nature to OHKO Hariyama. Blizzard is used to let Abomasnow 2HKO physically bulky threats such as Weezing and Steelix without boosting, as well as OHKO bulky Grass-types such as Vileplume and Gourgeist-XL that could otherwise take a +2 Ice Shard. It also provides Abomasnow with a strong Ice-type attack for immediate use when boosting or priority isn't required. Earthquake can be used instead so that Abomasnow can hit Fire- and Steel-types such as Pyroar, Combusken, and Klinklang as they attempt to switch in, providing better coverage in general, but it isn't too useful after the first turn, as most of its targets can outspeed and KO Abomasnow before it can use it, boosted or not. Set Details Maximum Speed investment with a Hasty nature is used to surprise threats such as Samurott and Barbaracle and either KO them with Seed Bomb or force them out and secure a Swords Dance boost. The nature also preserves Abomasnow's Special Attack stat, as it shouldn't be taking too many physical hits anyway and doesn't need the extra Defense, but a Jolly nature can be used to preserve its Defense stat instead if Blizzard isn't used. Attack is then fully invested in so that Abomasnow has as much power as possible to sweep or wallbreak with. A Lonely nature, or an Adamant nature if not using Blizzard, can be used to boost Abomasnow's Attack stat if the extra damage is more useful to you than outspeeding Samurott and Barbaracle. For example, an Attack-boosting nature gives Abomasnow a good chance to OHKO Aurorus with Seed Bomb without a boost. Life Orb is the best item choice because it helps Abomasnow inflict more damage against neutral targets than the likes of Expert Belt and Never-Melt Ice. Lum Berry is also a decent choice, as it lets Abomasnow switch into Scald users, as well as threats such as Mismagius and Rotom, and set up Swords Dance semi-reliably against these targets. Snow Warning is an obvious choice when using Blizzard, but it is also an option when running a different move in that slot, as it still increases residual damage as well as breaking Steelix's Sturdy and diminishing Musharna's recovery from Moonlight. However, Swords Dance Abomasnow is more likely to OHKO opponents outright and doesn't appreciate this as much as mixed Abomasnow does. Soundproof is a good alternative if Blizzard isn't being used that provides Abomasnow with some unusual setup opportunities, such as against Swellow's Boomburst and Choice Specs Pyroar's and Aurorus's Hyper Voice. Usage Tips Swords Dance Abomasnow should be conserved until Pokemon that can threaten its sweep, such as Kangaskhan, Magmortar, and Will-O-Wisp users, have been dealt with. Earthquake can be used to hit Fire-types if they attempt to switch in, but the opponent will most likely bring them into a boosted Abomasnow after it has KOed a teammate, as it is unlikely to KO them with Ice Shard after they have come in. Abomasnow should generally aim to blow holes in the opponent's team so that a more consistent sweeper or cleaner can have an easier time with its defensive checks weakened or removed. Abomasnow can also use a boosted Ice Shard to seriously cripple offensive responses, such as Choice Scarf Primeape, so that a teammate such as Kangaskhan, Samurott, or Skuntank can break through them later with another priority attack. Abomasnow should use Swords Dance when it forces a switch against an Ice Shard target such as Swellow or when it is against a passive defensive Pokemon that can't hit it for good damage, such as Calm Mind Musharna or Mega Audino without Fire Blast. Team Options Follow-up sweepers and cleaners really appreciate Abomasnow's ability to break through bulky Pokemon and wear down speedier responses with Ice Shard. Swellow can KO physically defensive Pokemon that can take Abomasnow's attacks while also appreciating the pressure on Rock- and Steel-types due to Abomasnow's coverage. Meanwhile, other wallbreakers of your own such as Magmortar and Samurott are useful for softening up the opponent's defensive checks to Abomasnow, making it easier for it to sweep on its own. This is important because many threats that Abomasnow fails to beat can KO it in return due to its many weaknesses. Pokemon such as Hitmonchan and Claydol can remove entry hazards from Abomasnow's path and let it use Wood Hammer more often before KOing itself with the recoil, as well as tank certain attacks such as Hydro Pump. Entry hazards of your own can complement Abomasnow's sweeping capabilities, drawing offensive targets closer to Ice Shard's KO range. Omastar can reliably set up both Stealth Rock and Spikes for an offensive team, whereas Archeops can provide Stealth Rock support while dealing with other hazard teams and blowing holes in teams with STAB Head Smash and Endeavor. Healing Wish users such as Mesprit and Mega Audino are also highly useful for giving Abomasnow more opportunities to sweep or wallbreak in a match. These two candidates can also provide Thunder Wave support so that Abomasnow can use its more powerful attacks against vulnerable foes.

Moves Blizzard is Abomasnow's most powerful attack, and it hits a lot of physically defensive targets, such as Vileplume, Steelix, and Musharna, for good damage, as well as most other offensive Pokemon. Giga Drain provides Abomasnow with a strong Grass-type STAB move that doesn't inflict heavy recoil, unlike Wood Hammer, and generally deals enough damage to common targets such as Lanturn, Samurott, and opposing Ice-types such as Aurorus to be effective. Earthquake is a useful physical coverage move that hits Fire-types such as Assault Vest Magmortar, Pyroar, and Combusken as they attempt to switch into Abomasnow and KO it. It also deals a decent amount of damage to Assault Vest Hariyama, which can otherwise handle specially based Abomasnow. Ice Shard provides a countermeasure against faster offensive threats that might try to revenge kill Abomasnow, such as Shiftry, Lilligant, Swellow, and Archeops, as well as deterring setup sweepers such as Vivillon and Lilligant. Wood Hammer is a powerful physical attack that hits the specially defensive targets that can take Abomasnow's special attacks, particularly Assault Vest Hariyama, extremely hard. However, the extreme recoil from Wood Hammer combined with the high HP of Abomasnow's targets often prevents it from attacking more than once with the move without KOing itself, and Giga Drain's recovery generally makes it more useful as a Grass-type attack. Set Details 252 Speed EVs and a Hasty nature allow Abomasnow to outspeed neutral-natured Samurott and Barbaracle, preventing them from setting up or KOing it. The Special Attack stat is then maximized to ensure that Abomasnow's main STAB attacks hit as hard as possible, and the remaining EVs are invested in Attack to improve the power of its physical coverage options. A Hasty nature is similarly chosen to preserve its Attack stat, as Abomasnow will rarely utilize its Defense stat effectively due to its type weaknesses. A Mild nature can be used to give Abomasnow's main attacks more power, particularly against bulky neutral targets such as Mega Audino, but it doesn't secure any more notable KOs and losing against physical Samurott and Barbaracle is not pleasant. Snow Warning is the ability of choice, as it not only allows Blizzard to be used with 100% accuracy but also lets Abomasnow inflict chip damage after it attacks, breaking Focus Sashes and Sturdy while increasing damage output in general, for both itself and its teammates for Hail's duration. Life Orb is used to maximize Abomasnow's damage output against neutral targets. Usage Tips Abomasnow should be used early in the game to break down balanced defensive cores that rely on a physically defensive Pokemon, such as Weezing, paired with a specially defensive Pokemon, such as Magmortar. Abomasnow can deal good damage to either member on its weak defensive stat if you predict correctly, forcing the opponent into a 50-50 situation. Abomasnow should not usually try to switch into foes, unless it is obvious that the opponent will use a move that can't directly hurt it, such as Stealth Rock or Taunt. Abomasnow can also switch into Water-, Grass-, and Electric-type attacks, such as Lilligant's Giga Drain, but it should avoid switching into Scald or Volt Switch for fear of being burned and of the opponent switching in a deadly response. Abomasnow should usually come in either after a teammate has been KOed by a vulnerable threat (such as Swellow or Quagsire) or after a teammate uses U-turn, Volt Switch, Healing Wish, or Memento, to minimize Abomasnow's chances of being KOed by a stray coverage move. Giga Drain should be used when Abomasnow is at low health to prevent it from KOing itself with recoil from Stealth Rock, Life Orb, and potential Scald burns if it switches into bulky Water-types. Team Options Abomasnow is highly vulnerable to entry hazards, but it also appreciates having them on the opposing team's side to give it an easier time with wallbreaking. Rapid Spin users such as Hitmonchan and Claydol can keep them off the field while providing good offensive synergy with their STAB attacks. Defog users such as Pelipper and Mantine can also be good teammates, boasting better defensive synergy with Abomasnow while still threatening most Fire-types, and Pelipper can also use its slow U-turn to bring Abomasnow into battle safely. Entry hazard setters can help Abomasnow's team capitalize on the hail it provides by inflicting masses of chip damage as foes try to switch into Abomasnow's attacks. Garbodor and Weezing can take on Fighting-types while laying Spikes or Toxic Spikes, while Mesprit can similarly lay Stealth Rock. Teammates that can use a slow U-turn or Volt Switch, such as Pelipper, Mesprit, and Lanturn, can help Abomasnow enter combat and start tearing up teams without risking being hit by a coverage move. Mesprit is a particularly good choice, as it can also provide Stealth Rock support, a solid Fighting-type resistance, Thunder Wave support to paralyze faster threats and make them vulnerable to Abomasnow's strongest moves, and Healing Wish to give Abomasnow more chances to wallbreak throughout the match. Lanturn and Mega Audino can also provide Thunder Wave support, while the latter can additionally use Healing Wish while luring in Steel-types and KOing them with Fire Blast. Finally, teammates that can capitalize on hail support, such as Rotom-F, Clefairy, and offensive cleaners and setup sweepers that appreciate the residual damage, such as Kangaskhan and Jynx, also appreciate Abomasnow's presence.

Moves Abomasnow takes advantage of its fantastic coverage and ability to freely spam Blizzard to break down slower teams. Blizzard is used as one of its main STAB moves; it is Abomasnow's hardest-hitting attack and can be difficult for a foe to switch into. Giga Drain is used as Abomasnow's second STAB move and works really well in collaboration with Blizzard. Not only does it hit the many bulky Water-types in RU that Blizzard would not dent, but it also helps make up for Life Orb recoil. Ice Shard is used as a tool to revenge kill weakened threats as well as just generally threaten Pokemon that would be used to revenge kill Abomasnow if it lacked Ice Shard such as Virizion, Flygon, and Aerodactyl. Focus Blast and Earthquake are used in attempt to cover Pokemon that resist both Grass- and Ice-type coverage. Focus Blast is good to hit bulky Steel-types such as Registeel and Bronzong either for neutral or super effective damage but comes with the great risk of misses. Earthquake hits almost the same Pokemon but can also catch Pokemon such as Delphox on the switch in and can not miss, although it does not hit Bronzong. Furthermore, Earthquake does not hit Registeel as hard. Set Details Maximum Speed and Special Attack EVs make Abomasnow as strong and as fast as possible. For the nature, you can either run Mild, which adds some always appreciated extra power to Blizzard, or Hasty, which can be used to catch Pokemon such as Exploud and neutral-natured Samurott of guard. Life Orb is the preferred item to maximize Abomasnow's power and the recoil damage does not really matter because it gains back a lot of HP by using Giga Drain. Usage Tips When using Abomasnow, you should attempt to get it in as early as possible to try to put dents into teams early in the game. Abomasnow should be put onto teams that are looking for a strong wallbreaker that also has priority, since it is one of the only Pokemon that fit this description in RU. If Abomasnow risks taking a lot of damage without picking up a KO, it is often better to switch out and preserve Abomasnow's HP. Furthermore, Abomasnow should almost never be used as a switch-in unless the opponent is obviously going to do something that does a very small amount of damage to it. It should also not be used as a switch-in to Volt Switch users even though it does resist this move because that just gives the opponent a free switch into a Pokemon that can KO Abomasnow. Abomasnow can only really switch into bulky Water-types such as Alomomola, Slowking, and Jellicent, since most of the time they will only be clicking Scald and the burn for the most part does not matter, since this set is mostly special attacks. That being said, even switching into these Pokemon can be risky, since they can also use moves that hinder Abomasnow such as Thunder Wave, Knock Off, and Toxic. Team Options Abomasnow is bothered by entry hazards with its weakness to Stealth Rock as well as its vulnerability to Toxic Spikes and Spikes. Because of this, Abomasnow appreciates being paired with Rapid Spin or Defog users such as Flygon, Pelipper, and Blastoise. With this being said, Abomasnow also appreciates hazard users of its own such as Qwilfish, Garbodor, and Roselia, which help further weaken and wear down its switch-ins. It is worth mentioning that the combination of Spikes and Defog is counterintuitive, so a spinner is preferred if going down this route. Abomasnow, as well as with most wallbreakers, appreciates Pokemon that can use Volt Switch or U-turn such as Flygon, Choice Specs Meloetta, Eelektross, and Manectric to gain momentum, as they can lure Pokemon in and let Abomasnow get a free attack off. Abomasnow's main checks and switch-ins are Steel-types, so Magnet Rise Magneton can work pretty well with Abomasnow by trapping Pokemon such as Escavalier and Bronzong. If you use Magneton, make sure to add Pokemon that deal with Fighting-types, since you are doubling up on that weakness.

Moves Swords Dance is the boosting move of choice, skyrocketing Abomasnow's Attack to a scary level. Wood Hammer is used to hit bulky Water-types hard, albeit with nasty recoil damage. Seed Bomb can be used instead if you don't like the recoil Wood Hammer brings, but you lose a lot of power. Ice Shard gives Abomasnow a powerful STAB move after Swords Dance and a form of priority. Earthquake hits the Steel-types that commonly switch into Mega Abomasnow. Set Details Maximum Attack EVs are used to take advantage of Mega Abomasnow's amazing power while 180 Speed EVs allow Mega Abomasnow to outspeed Relaxed Swampert. Abomasite is obligatory so that Abomasnow can Mega Evolve. An Adamant nature allows Mega Abomasnow to hit as hard as possible, especially after a Swords Dance boost. Soundproof isn't useful on this set, but it can come in handy for setup opportunities, as it blocks sound moves such as Bug Buzz, Hyper Voice, and Boomburst. Usage Tips This set can work as both a wallbreaker and a win condition, as it hits hard initially and can proceed to overpower the opponent's team thanks to its access to Swords Dance. This set needs a ton of support to be truly effective, as its slow Speed stat and its bulk can only take it so far. Team Options This set appreciates wallbreakers, such as Choice Band Entei or Life Orb Darmanitan, to wear down Steel-types while also hitting a lot of foes for a massive amount of damage. This set really appreciates Spikes support from Pokemon such as Chesnaught or Roserade to wear down the Steel-types that commonly switch in, as Mega Abomasnow can force a lot of switches thanks to its STAB coverage. This set also appreciates entry hazard removal from Tentacruel or Crobat, as Mega Abomasnow has no reliable recovery and is susceptible to all entry hazards.

Moves Blizzard is Abomasnow's most reliable STAB move in hail and is its most powerful STAB move. Wood Hammer is used to nail special walls trying to switch into Blizzard. Giga Drain is an option, however, to have a way of recovering and still hits targets that are weak to it such as Swampert and Alomomola pretty hard. Ice Shard gives Abomasnow a priority move that can nail a lot of faster threats that may threaten it. Earthquake is used to get around Steel-types not named Mega Aggron and Fire-types that try to switch into Abomasnow's STAB moves. Focus Blast can be used instead to hit Mega Aggron a bit harder, but it loses out on coverage against Fire-types. Set Details Maximum Special Attack EVs are used to let Abomasnow hit as hard as it can with its most powerful STAB move, Blizzard. 180 Speed EVs allow Abomasnow to outspeed Relaxed Swampert. 8 HP EVs hit a Stealth Rock number, and the rest is dumped into Attack to let Abomasnow's other moves hit as hard as possible. Abomasite is given item, as otherwise Abomasnow cannot proceed to Mega Evolve. A Mild nature is used to boost Abomasnow's Special Attack while lowering its less important Defense, as Abomasnow's resistances are usually more specially based. Soundproof is used before Mega Evolution to avoid sound moves such as Yanmega's Bug Buzz or Exploud's Boomburst. It also allows for more hail turns for Mega Abomasnow to spam Blizzard. Usage Tips This set should be used on a bulky offensive team looking for a decent wallbreaker with priority. Abomasnow must be wary of any Pokemon faster than it that resists its priority or that it cannot afford to take a hit from, such as Entei or Darmanitan. Plan to bring this set out early- or mid-game to punch holes while softening up bulky foes. Team Options Trick Room is a great option, as Mega Abomasnow's base 30 Speed allows it to outspeed almost everything in UU under Trick Room. Slowking is a particularly good partner as it has excellent defensive synergy with Mega Abomasnow, resisting Fire, Fighting, and Steel while Mega Abomasnow resists Grass and Electric; it can also set up Trick Room multiple times thanks to its ability Regenerator and its access to Slack Off. Entei is a good partner to form a wallbreaking core and it has great offensive and defensive synergy with Abomasnow. Abomasnow appreciates entry hazard removal from the likes of Tentacruel or Crobat, as both can get rid of all entry hazards fairly easily without compounding Abomasnow's weaknesses.

Moves Blizzard is Abomasnow's strongest STAB attack and is its most spammed move. Giga Drain is Abomasnow's Grass-type STAB move that provides coverage against Water-types and also provides longevity. Wood Hammer is a great choice against more specially defensive Pokemon, such as Sylveon, which can tank a Blizzard nicely. It isn't recommended, however, to use it with Focus Sash because that will be counterproductive due to recoil damage. Ice Shard lets Abomasnow pick off weakened Pokemon, such as Landorus-T, outside of Trick Room. Protect is to scout and save Abomasnow from attacks such as Brave Bird from Talonflame, which will then allow Abomasnow's partner to KO or weaken the Pokemon. Set Details Maximum Special Attack EVs with a Quiet nature and 0 IVs in Speed are for maximum damage output and because Abomasnow should have the lowest Speed possible for Trick Room. Maximum HP EVs give Abomasnow some bulk because investing in Speed wouldn't be necessary. Focus Sash is the preferred item for Abomasnow, as it frees up your Trick Room team to use a different Mega Evolution such as Mega Camerupt or Mega Mawile. Abomasite is an option so that Abomasnow can Mega Evolve and gain boosted offenses and defenses. Life Orb boosts Abomasnow's attacks without the use of Abomasite. If Abomasnow is running Wood Hammer, switch its item to Life Orb and change its EV spread to 252 HP / 52 Atk / 204 SpA so that Abomasnow will always OHKO 252 HP / 44 Def Rotom-W with Wood Hammer. Usage Tips Most of the time, Abomasnow should be spamming Blizzard. Giga Drain or Wood Hammer should be used when there is a Water-type out. Due to Abomasnow's many weaknesses, it isn't recommended to switch it in unless it's into an Electric- or Water-type attack. Generally, Abomasnow can take Electric- and Water-type attacks very well, which allows it to switch in against Pokemon such as Thundurus and Suicune very easily. Leading with a Trick Room setter alongside Abomasnow works well, as you'll be able to abuse Abomasnow's slow Speed right from the start without having to find an opportunity to switch it in safely. Team Options Pairing Abomasnow with a partner that has access to Helping Hand and Trick Room, such as Cresselia, will benefit Abomasnow a lot, as Cresselia will be able to boost the power of Blizzard. Cresselia is also able to get rid of Fighting-types that threaten Abomasnow. Other Trick Room setters that pair up well with Abomasnow are Gothitelle, which can check Fighting-types and provide Helping Hand support, and Jellicent, which checks Fire-types and Aegislash. Heatran is another great partner, as its Flash Fire ability will discourage the use of Heat Wave and it can also check Steel- and Rock-types that threaten Abomasnow. Heatran is benefited by Abomasnow because it checks bulky Water-types, such as Rotom-W, which usually give Heatran trouble. Terrakion, although a bit fast for Trick Room, helps Abomasnow out by checking Steel- and Flying-types. Abomasnow, in turn, can get rid of Landorus-T, which gives Terrakion problems. Other Pokemon that can make use of Blizzard, such as Gastrodon, Swampert, and Milotic, are great partners. Gastrodon is benefited by Abomasnow's removal of Grass-types, while Gastrodon helps by checking Fire-types that threaten Abomasnow. Swampert is essentially the same as Gastrodon, but because it has access to Wide Guard, it can protect Abomasnow from Heat Wave or Rock Slide. If you're using Abomasnow outside of Trick Room, Greninja is a really niche option for a teammate, as it synergizes really well with Abomasnow. Greninja checks Aegislash and Fire-types, while the hail and Blizzard can make it a pretty decent hail attacker. Abomasnow also gets rid of bulky Water-types that Greninja generally has trouble breaking through.

Moves When combined with Abomasnow's hail, Blizzard becomes a very strong and spammable move that hits slower walls such as Skarmory and Ferrothorn for heavy damage and threatens a 2HKO on Reuniclus switching in. Combining this with Wood Hammer, Abomasnow becomes incredibly hard to switch into. Wood Hammer threatens the plethora of bulky Water-types that would want to come in on Blizzard such as Politoed, Rotom-W, and Jellicent and hits Tyranitar switching in trying to reset the weather. Focus Punch threatens damage on Clefable, Tyranitar, Heatran, and, when outside of hail, Ferrothorn switching in. Earthquake can be used as a surprise option to threaten heavy damage on Heatran, which otherwise would check Abomasnow, and hits Tyranitar and Tentacruel hard without taking the recoil damage Wood Hammer has. Hidden Power Fire is used to threaten KOs on Forretress and Scizor and deals heavy damage to Ferrothorn and Air Balloon Magnezone. Ice Shard picks off weakened Dragon-Types such as Latios, Garchomp, Dragonite, and Salamence, as well as breaking Alakazam's Focus Sash. Set Details 212 Speed EVs allow Abomasnow to outspeed Rotom-W. Maximum Special Attack investment maximizes Blizzard's damage. The remaining EVs are put into Attack to give Abomasnow's coverage and priority moves as much power as possible. Alternatively, Abomasnow can run 252 Speed EVs in order to outrun Modest Hidden Power Fire Magnezone and to guarantee at least a Speed tie versus other neutral-natured Abomasnow. Team Options Mixed Abomasnow's best archetype is hyper offense, as it hits very hard and is immediately threatening early-game, which sets the pace well for aggressive teams. Dragon-type partners such as Dragonite, Latios, Garchomp, and Salamence all appreciate the hail chipping their Steel-type checks such as Ferrothorn, Skarmory, and Jirachi. Dragonite can hold Leftovers to keep its Multiscale intact in hail. In return, Abomasnow has priority Ice Shard to revenge kill Choice Scarf Dragon-types. Physical threats Mamoswine and Kyurem-B also appreciate Abomasnow's hail, as it chips their Steel-type checks such as Skarmory and Forretress while not damaging themselves. On top of that, Mamoswine can provide utility for its team with Stealth Rock if it's required. Gyarados grants hail teams a check to Keldeo and Excadrill, which both outspeed andOHKO Abomasnow once its Focus Sash is broken, as well as providing an offensive check to Volcarona, which can threaten to sweep with Quiver Dance against Abomasnow. Starmie provides Rapid Spin support, which is required for Abomasnow to keep its Focus Sash intact and to let it switch in and out throughout the game. In return, Starmie appreciates the hail chipping down Ferrothorn or denying its Leftovers recovery. Starmie also appreciates Abomasnow removing rain, letting it more easily run Hidden Power Fire over Ice Beam to further chip down Steel-types, further enabling Dragon-type teammates. Jirachi or Scizor can be used alongside Abomasnow as a switch-in for Dragon-type moves that would threaten Abomasnow and can provide pivoting with U-turn.

Moves Abomasnow's Snow Warning grants the powerful Blizzard perfect accuracy, whose power can OHKO metagame staples like Latios and Gliscor while reliably doing great damage to common switch-ins such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory. Giga Drain is used as the second STAB option to stay healthy throughout the game while also hitting the bulky Water-types that will switch into Blizzard such as Politoed and Rotom-W. Leech Seed can disrupt any non-immune switch-in, providing significant chip damage and keeping Abomasnow healthy to win the weather war. The health drain allows Abomasnow to sit on walls trying to outlast it , such as Blissey and Jirachi, while the chip damage alongside hail will put Ice-resistant sweepers like Volcarona and Scizor on a much faster timer. Ice Shard can be used to revenge kill Dragon-type threats such as Latios, Dragonite, Garchomp, and Salamence, as well as breaking Alakazam's Focus Sash. Protect is used to get Leftovers recovery, rack up Leech Seed and hail damage, and scout Choice-locked Pokemon such as Keldeo, Scizor and, Terrakion. Set Details The bulk EVs allow Abomasnow to survive Secret Sword from Keldeo from full HP. 84 Special Defense EVs allow Abomasnow to take one Focus Blast from Modest Thundurus-T. The rest of the EVs and nature are dedicated to making Abomasnow as powerful as possible, with a Quiet nature chosen if it is utilizing Ice Shard. Alternatively, an EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD with a Sassy nature allows Abomasnow to survive a Modest Thundurus-T's Focus Blast after Stealth Rock damage. Team Options This Abomasnow set prefers to be used on more balanced or stall archetypes where residual damage is the aim of the game. Forretress is a great partner for Abomasnow, as it is immune to hail thanks to Overcoat and provides both Spikes and Rapid Spin support, which is required for Abomasnow due to its Ice typing. Special walls such as Blissey, Clefable, and Heatran can take on special attackers that threaten Abomasnow such as Latios, Volcarona, and Alakazam. Blissey and Heatran can also both provide Stealth Rock, which can provide even more residual damage when combined with hail and Leech Seed. Other Steel-types such as Scizor and Jirachi are also good options to check Latios and, other Dragon-types that Abomasnow's Ice Shard is not enough to cover such as Kyurem-B and Yache Berry Dragonite. Reuniclus is immune to hail with its Magic Guard ability, and its pure Psychic typing lets it switch into the Fighting-types Keldeo and Terrakion that would otherwise threaten Abomasnow with heavy damage or a KO. Gliscor also brings a resistance to Fighting, can offset hail damage with Poison Heal, and can accrue hail damage on foes in many ways such as with Knock Off, Stealth Rock, and Swords Dance; these sets also appreciate counters such as Skarmory taking additional damage. Tentacruel, though niche, can also be partnered with Abomasnow to provide Knock Off , Rapid Spin, and Toxic Spikes, as well as being able to switch into common threats that would otherwise threaten Abomasnow such as Volcarona, Heatran, and Latios carrying Hidden Power Fire, though it doesn't appreciate the Hail cutting into its longevity.

Bring Abomasnow in on a Choice-locked Ground- or Grass-type move from the likes of Krookodile or Roserade and proceed to set up Substitute. Thanks to its Ice-type STAB move in Ice Beam, Abomasnow can't be walled by other Grass-types, and its ability Soundproof means it can't be phazed out by Roar either. Overall, however, Abomasnow lacks anything substantial other than an annoyance factor over its competition, so even this set is going to be done better by Shaymin or Roserade.

With a Choice Scarf, Abomasnow can overcome its mediocre Speed in order to spam its powerful STAB Blizzard. As Blizzard is such a good offensive move, hitting both opponents, it should be Abomasnow's main move. Giga Drain allows Abomasnow to take out Water-types that resist Blizzard, as well as Tyranitar, which might switch in to prevent consistent usage of Blizzard. Grass Knot, despite hitting Rotom-W for only a measly 20 Base Power, does a huge amount of damage to Tyranitar. Although it may seem strange to use it on a Choice Scarf set, Ice Shard is used because Abomasnow is not extremely fast even after the Choice Scarf boost. Sheer Cold is a desperation move, and should only be used when Abomasnow would otherwise have to freeze the opponent with Blizzard to win. Because Sheer Cold's 30% accuracy is still higher than Blizzard's 10% chance to freeze, it can increase your chances of winning in certain circumstances. Light Screen, while unorthodox, can allow Abomasnow's teammates to survive important attacks. It should only be used if it is vital that a teammate survives or if both opponents resist all of Abomasnow's other moves. The EVs and nature maximize Abomasnow's Speed in order to take advantage of the Choice Scarf boost. The rest of the EVs go into Special Attack so Abomasnow can deal as much damage as possible with Blizzard. Helping Hand helps the Choice Scarf set much more, as Abomasnow will usually be able to use Blizzard with the Choice Scarf Speed boost. Terrakion, while usually not seen running Helping Hand, is a great partner for Abomasnow, as it can defeat Tyranitar and Ninetales without much trouble—two Pokemon that prevent Abomasnow from using Blizzard. Garchomp also works well with Abomasnow, as it enjoys the lack of Flying-types created by Blizzard in order to use Earthquake more effectively; this strategy becomes even more effective as Abomasnow resists Earthquake.

With this set, Abomasnow can abuse its most useful quality in Snow Warning while dishing out large amounts of damage to many Pokemon in the metagame. Blizzard is an amazing move, hitting both opponents. In addition, it hits common Pokemon such as Zapdos and Garchomp for super effective damage. Giga Drain is a secondary STAB attack, hitting Water-types, which resist Blizzard, super effectively. Grass Knot can be used to hit heavy Pokemon such as Tyranitar harder, but Abomasnow will miss the healing provided by Giga Drain. Although this Abomasnow has no EVs in Attack, Ice Shard is still an excellent STAB priority attack and can finish off weakened Pokemon, especially with added damage from hail; it can also do a reasonable amount of damage to Pokemon that it hits super effectively. Ice Beam is an option if you are concerned about the weather changing after Abomasnow has been sent out, and also hits a single opponent harder than Blizzard due to the power drop caused when multiple Pokemon are targeted. Protect is a standard move on many Pokemon in the metagame, and Abomasnow is no exception—not only does it allow Abomasnow to avoid Fake Out, but it also allows Abomasnow to preserve its Focus Sash for an extra turn and add extra residual damage via hail. A Quiet nature and 0 Speed IVs give Abomasnow a better chance of getting hail up on a double switch or at the beginning of the battle. The EVs maximize Abomasnow's Special Attack, as it is somewhat mediocre; the rest of the EVs go into HP, as Abomasnow does not want Speed. If being faster than opposing Abomasnow is a more important priority than getting hail up, an alternative EV spread of 156 HP / 252 SpA / 100 Spe with a Modest nature can be used. If you still want to be faster than opposing Abomasnow while not giving up too much weather control, Abomasnow can run 2 Speed IVs to outspeed standard Abomasnow. Focus Sash allows Abomasnow to survive nearly any hit. Even though this set uses HP EVs, Abomasnow is still extremely frail; Focus Sash alleviates this to some degree, however. Because this Abomasnow is quite slow, it works well in Trick Room. Cresselia is an excellent partner for this reason—not only can it set up Trick Room, but it can also use Helping Hand to strengthen the power of Abomasnow's Blizzard, and Psychic to weaken pesky Fighting-types that would otherwise easily OHKO Abomasnow. Fire- and Steel-types wall every one of Abomasnow's moves, so a Water-type, such as Rotom-W, or a Ground-type can be a good partner to help to take out these Pokemon.

Abomasnow's most successful result has been operating under the effects of Trick Room, letting it turn its bad base 60 Speed into a positive. Blizzard is Abomasnow's best STAB option, super effectively hitting Thundurus, Tornadus, Landorus, Latios, and Amoonguss and threatening a reasonable chance to freeze targets. Giga Drain hits bulky Water-types super effectively, and it's especially useful against rain teams. Ice Shard offers useful chip damage when Abomasnow is about to be KOed. Because defensive EVs are useless on a Focus Sash user, 252 EVs are allocated into Attack to strengthen Abomasnow's Ice Shard. Focus Sash ensures Abomasnow can get off one or two Blizzards, which is especially helpful since it is very easy to OHKO Abomasnow. Other Options Choice Scarf or a Mild nature with 252 Speed EVs can let Abomasnow operate outside of Trick Room. Ice Gem lets Abomasnow regularly OHKO bulky Thundurus of the time with Blizzard, a feat few special attackers can boast. Wood Hammer can be used to hit specially defensive bulky Water-types like Rotom-Wash, Suicune, and Politoed harder, although it makes Abomasnow more susceptible to Intimidate and breaks Focus Sash. Icy Wind can be used to provide speed control. Sheer Cold is a last-ditch effort to KO troublesome threats, especially Cresselia and Ice-resistant foes like Heatran and Metagross. Common Partners Jellicent is the most common Trick Room setter for Abomasnow, as it checks the Fire- and Rock-types which give Abomasnow trouble like Heatran, Volcarona, and Tyranitar. In return, Abomasnow threatens Thundurus and bulky Water-types, like Suicune and Rotom-Wash, which give Jellicent issue. Heatran and Abomasnow cover each other's weaknesses fairly well, with Heatran removing Steel-types and threatening opposing Heatran, and Abomasnow removing the Water-types that Heatran performs poorly against. Checks and Counters Steel-types and Fire-types such as Metagross, Heatran, and Volcarona resist both of Abomasnow's STAB moves and can OHKO back with their STAB moves, although Metagross does have to be mindful of freezing from Blizzard. Although Tyranitar is weak to Grass, it is expected to beat Abomasnow one-on-one, especially if sand is up. Landorus-T is a soft check to Abomasnow. It is faster and can safely use U-turn to deal massive damage, although it has to be mindful of an Ice Shard.

Abomasnow's unique typing and ability grant it the coverage and power to check the ubiquitous sand and rain archetypes by OHKOing Tyranitar and Politoed with Wood Hammer and make it a notable Trick Room attacker with its decently powerful Blizzard. However, its typing also leaves it weak to Stealth Rock and many common attacking types, and its bulk and dependence on Trick Room leave it prone to being picked off by strong neutral hits, which means it isn't as effective in weather wars as the other setters. Grass Gem-boosted Wood Hammer OHKOes Tyranitar and Politoed, forcing them to switch out and leaving Abomasnow with the weather advantage. It also OHKOes Jellicent. Abomasnow's Snow Warning guarantees Blizzard always hits both foes, notably OHKOing Landorus-T and 2HKOing Latios. Ice Shard is an option to chip away at the aforementioned Ice-weak foes whenever Abomasnow is at a Speed disadvantage. The given EV spread lets Abomasnow take a Low Kick from bulky Tyranitar and OHKO it with a Grass Gem-boosted Wood Hammer. The rest of the EVs are spent in Special Attack. 0 Speed IVs are necessary to move before Tyranitar in Trick Room. Abomasnow uses Wood Hammer as its Grass-type attack to guarantee the OHKO on Tyranitar, while other options like Energy Ball and Giga Drain do not. Another option for Abomasnow is Life Orb with a Quiet nature, making it a stronger Trick Room attacker that can OHKO Latios with Blizzard. Jellicent is a most natural partner for Abomasnow, as it sets up Trick Room and beats Heatran, which resists all of Abomasnow's attacks. Jellicent may even opt into a more offensive set such as Water Gem Water Spout, as Abomasnow beats common counterplay such as Tyranitar and opposing Jellicent, making a powerful offensive duo with their combined spread attacks. Cresselia may be used as an additional Trick Room setter that can boost Abomasnow's middling damage output with Helping Hand or run Expert Belt as to beat Fighting-types like Conkeldurr. Heatran is another natural partner, as Abomasnow beats Water-types and Latios and Heatran beats Steel-types such as Metagross and Scizor. Eruption Heatran works especially well, as nearly nothing can switch into a Blizzard and Charcoal-boosted Eruption at the same time. Slow Fighting-types like Conkeldurr and Scrafty work well in Trick Room and provide another way of beating Kyurem-B and Steel-types, especially Heatran.

Moves This variant of Abomasnow aims to offer as much utility as it can get into a single set. Leech Seed is Abomasnow's main recovery move and provides passive damage in addition to hail, a combination that wears down the opposing Pokemon at a significant rate. The recovery granted by Leech Seed also aids Abomasnow's teammates if it is forced out by a powerful Pokemon such as Infernape. Abomasnow is also a good user of this move because its secondary Ice typing can discourage opposing Grass-types from trying to absorb Leech Seed. Protect pairs nicely with Leech Seed, as it allows Abomasnow to gain additional recovery for free while the opposing Pokemon is slowly losing its health. It also scouts which move a Choice item user will lock into, which is especially useful against strong super effective attackers like Choice Band Tyranitar and Scizor, and can also be a nice tool against Gyarados lacking Stone Edge and Taunt, as it ensures that Abomasnow can't be hit by Bounce. Wood Hammer is the strongest Grass-type STAB attack available to hit Water-types that Abomasnow is supposed to counter. It also threatens Tyranitar with a potential OHKO and 2HKOes maximum HP Clefable, which could be tempted to switch in and deny Abomasnow's Leech Seed. Ice Shard OHKOes Flygon and non-Yache Berry Dragonite after Stealth Rock damage and a round of hail while dealing substantial damage to Pokemon such as Gliscor, Roserade, and Latias and threatening to revenge kill severely weakened Pokemon. Blizzard is an option to punish defensive variants of Zapdos, Skarmory, Togekiss, and Hidden Power Fire Celebi in case they're trying to fight Abomasnow while being a significantly stronger move overall. Set Details The recovery provided by Leftovers is invaluable for Abomasnow's survivability. 252 EVs in Attack and an Adamant nature are needed to get the aforementioned KOs with Wood Hammer and Ice Shard. The remaining EVs are placed into HP and Special Defense to retain sufficient bulk to handle most Water-types. Investing in Speed can be considered to get the jump on uninvested Swampert, Clefable, and Tyranitar. 16 EVs in Speed is usually the minimum if outspeeding those Pokemon is desired, but more EVs can be spent to outspeed Skarmory and Pokemon that sit around the base 70 Speed tier, mainly Tyranitar. Alternatively, if Blizzard is chosen over Ice Shard, Abomasnow can use a more bulky spread of 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD and a Sassy nature to get as much special bulk as possible, which allows Abomasnow to check Rain Dance Kingdra, Choice Scarf Latias, and offensive variants of Rotom-A more effectively. Usage Tips Bring Abomasnow in on foes it is suited to handle, mainly Water-types such as Starmie, Swampert, Suicune, Empoleon, and Milotic. Abomasnow can also take care of Raikou lacking Aura Sphere, Zapdos without Heat Wave or Hidden Power Flying, and most variants of Gliscor. From there, it can spread Leech Seed and get chip damage on the opposing Pokemon, which, in tandem with hail and Protect, can quickly wear down Steel-types, which are tempted to come in on Abomasnow. Depending on the opposing team, sending Abomasnow out as soon as possible to set up hail early can be a good idea, especially if the opponent hasn't set up Stealth Rock yet and cannot change the weather. The ability to induce hail upon entry can be critical against Pokemon such as Kingdra in an emergency situation. If Abomasnow packs Ice Shard, it can be used as a revenge killer to weakened Pokemon and make sure that Flygon and non-Yache Berry Dragonite locked into Outrage won't cause any more trouble. Team Options Abomasnow has a much easier time coming onto a field cleared of Stealth Rock and any other form of entry hazards. Therefore, Starmie makes for a great teammate due to its access to Rapid Spin and ability to keep Infernape, Heatran, and some Jirachi variants in check. Tentacruel is another notable spinner that pairs nicely with Abomasnow, as it is also able to deal with Fire-types, can set up and absorb Toxic Spikes, and can make use of Knock Off to remove the opposing Pokemon's Leftovers, which, if combined with hail and Leech Seed damage, wears down opposing Pokemon at an extremely fast rate. Nidoqueen is a good partner as well to absorb and set Toxic Spikes while serving as a check to Tyranitar and Fighting-types like Lucario and Infernape. Gliscor also does a good job at handling these threats and benefits from hail damage, as the residual damage enhances its stallbreaking capabilities. Defensive Jirachi is another noteworthy stallbreaker that appreciates hail support when trying to wear down the opposing team with Iron Head, as even opposing Steel-types such as Bronzong have trouble dealing with it if their Leftovers recovery is denied by hail. It also handles dangerous Pokemon such as Gengar and Latias and can support Abomasnow with Wish. Unlike most Pokemon, Clefable isn't bothered by hail at all due to its ability Magic Guard and can make good use of Knock Off, heal its teammates with Wish, and serve as an answer to Pokemon such as Heatran, Zapdos, and Latias that could force Abomasnow out. Skarmory brings another form of passive damage in Spikes and can check a large number of physical threats, namely Metagross, Scizor, and Gyarados. Since Abomasnow is unable to discourage opposing Skarmory from setting Spikes freely without Blizzard, Magnezone can be considered to circumvent this issue and to deal with other troublesome Steel-types such as Scizor and Jirachi. Other good defensive teammates for Abomasnow include Latias, which serves as a competent answer to Infernape, Breloom, Heatran, and Zapdos while passing Wish. Rotom-A is also a valuable teammate due to its reliability at spinblocking and checking Steel-types such as Metagross, Scizor, physical Jirachi, and Bronzong. Zapdos also deals nicely with the aforementioned Steel-types and Fighting-types like Breloom. Finally, a dedicated hail team featuring Walrein is doable, although stacking Ice-types that share several weakness, mainly to Stealth Rock, comes with synergy issues.

Moves Abomasnow's dual STAB coverage is fit to break through common bulky Pokemon such as Swampert, Gliscor, Milotic, Hippowdon, and Celebi, allowing it to act as an efficient wallbreaker that still retains some defensive utility. Wood Hammer pressures bulky Water-types, OHKOes most Tyranitar variants, and 2HKOes maximum HP Clefable and Bold Blissey after Stealth Rock. Blizzard is perfectly accurate under hail, OHKOes Breloom, and heavily cripples the likes of Skarmory, Zapdos, Rotom-A, Gengar, and Celebi. Ice Shard is a very useful priority move, as it allows Abomasnow to finish off Flygon and Dragonite once they have been weakened a bit and does substantial damage to Gliscor, Roserade, Latias, and offensive Zapdos. Earthquake hurts Steel-types such as Heatran, Jirachi, and Metagross as well as Infernape, which resist Abomasnow's STAB moves. Focus Punch can be used if Clefable and Blissey prove to be real issues, seeing that it spares Abomasnow from taking too much recoil from Wood Hammer when they repeatedly use recovery moves, and it is especially useful against Bold Calm Mind Clefable. It also hits Tyranitar and Heatran extremely hard and does a good amount of damage to Bronzong, Scizor, and Skarmory as it heals with Roost. Its unreliable nature and reliance on prediction should be kept in mind, however. Hidden Power Fire can be considered, as it invalidates Scizor and Forretress as counters and damages Bronzong. Set Details Leftovers is recommended because Abomasnow can hardly afford to hamper its longevity with Life Orb and highly benefits from the passive recovery when switching into Ground- and Water-types. Leftovers also alleviates the recoil induced by Wood Hammer. Maximum Attack enables Abomasnow to net an important OHKO with Ice Shard on Flygon and Dragonite after Stealth Rock damage and a round of hail, a 2HKO on Clefable, and an OHKO on most Tyranitar with Wood Hammer. The EVs in Speed allow Abomasnow to outspeed Skarmory without investment. The remaining EVs are dumped into Special Attack to enhance Blizzard's damage, 2HKOing maximum HP Rotom-A after Stealth Rock and hail damage. Putting only 16 EVs in Speed is enough to get the edge over uninvested Tyranitar, Swampert, and Clefable. This can also be achieved with 76 Spe and a Brave nature if lowering Defense is deemed to be too bothersome, seeing that Abomasnow wants to take advantage of the likes of Swampert, Gliscor, and Hippowdon. Usage Tips Without investment in defensive stats and Leech Seed, Abomasnow cannot take too many hits and should mostly be switching into defensively oriented Pokemon such as bulky variants of Starmie, Swampert, Hippowdon, non-Flamethrower Nidoqueen, and Milotic. Bringing Abomasnow out early-game to induce hail can be rewarding, especially if Stealth Rock isn't up. Offensive Abomasnow can be difficult to switch into for some teams due to its powerful STAB attacks and coverage. However, be wary of using Wood Hammer too many times, as the recoil can significantly wear Abomasnow down if it's used too recklessly against Pokemon such as Blissey. Since Abomasnow is slow and suffers from a plethora of exploitable weaknesses, its success can be reliant on prediction; it will likely have to catch Steel- and Fire-type switch-ins with Earthquake to get past them, for instance. Abomasnow can also prevent attempts to sweep from Pokemon such as non-Yache Berry and non-Extreme Speed Dragon Dance Dragonite and Rain Dance Kingdra thanks to Ice Shard and hail. In a similar manner, Abomasnow can also serve as an offensive check to Water-types like offensive Calm Mind Suicune, Agility Empoleon, and Starmie thanks to its typing. Team Options Abomasnow struggles to get past Steel-types such as Scizor, bulky Jirachi, Bronzong, Forretress, and, to a lesser extent, specially defensive Skarmory. Therefore, Heatran is a partner of choice, as it can keep them in check and can set up Stealth Rock to enhance Abomasnow's wallbreaking capabilities. Choice Scarf variants in particular are effective at revenge killing Lucario and appreciate Abomasnow's Ice Shard to handle Dragon Dance Dragonite. In return, Abomasnow can take on Water-types that cause Heatran trouble. Starmie is a very valuable partner as the most reliable spinner available and can help Abomasnow by getting rid of entry hazards and keeping Fire- and some Steel-type Pokemon in check. Tentacruel is another spinner to consider because it can absorb and set Toxic Spikes while keeping Fire-types in check. Skarmory is another Pokemon suited to take advantage of the aforementioned Steel-types by using them as Spikes fodder. It is also a very solid defensive teammate for Abomasnow due to its ability to check the likes of Metagross and Gyarados. On a more offensive team, Bronzong can help Abomasnow by setting up Trick Room to enhance the matchup against fast-paced teams. Offensive Abomasnow cannot take hits from the offensive Water-types such as Starmie, Suicune, and Empoleon forever. Therefore, specially defensive Pokemon such as Clefable and Jirachi make good partners, especially since they have an easier time crippling the opposing team with hail active. They also bring Wish support that Abomasnow appreciates. Nidoqueen and Gliscor can support Abomasnow by laying down entry hazards and stallbreaking, respectively, while keeping dangerous Pokemon such as Tyranitar and most Fighting-types in check. Due to Abomasnow's Speed and huge number of exploitable weaknesses, Pokemon that have good type synergy with it such as Latias, Zapdos, and Rotom-A are ideal teammates.
