Set Details The listed Attack EVs and an Adamant nature maximize Aron's offensive potential, and the defensive investment allows Aron to hit Eviolite numbers. By running 36 Speed EVs, Aron is able to outpace Spritzee and smack it with Heavy Slam. Eviolite can be used alongside Wish support, as it greatly increases Aron's longevity and bulk. Berry Juice forms a wonderful combination with Sturdy because when Aron is at 1 HP, Berry Juice will bring it back to full health. However, using a Life Orb is justifiable when running Rock Polish for a boost in power to all of Aron's moves at the expense of a bit of health loss. Usage Tips Aron makes for a great counter and switch-in to Fletchling thanks to its 4x resistance to Fletchling's Flying-type moves. Head Smash is capable of denting even Pokemon that resist Rock-type moves, so simply using it on predicted switches is a good idea; however, one must remember that it only has 8 PP and should not be wasted. Team Options Pokemon that often force switches pair well with Aron due to its ability to provide Stealth Rock support. Pokemon that can handle Aron's weakness to Fighting-types, such as Spritzee and Slowpoke, make for good partners. Spritzee can also pass Wishes or use Aromatherapy to keep Aron healthy throughout the match; this is especially useful when Aron chooses to run an Eviolite. Meanwhile, Slowpoke has the ability to beat Drilbur, another problem for Aron. Foongus makes for a good partner because it can soak up Water-type attacks from Pokemon such as Chinchou and Staryu.

Metal Burst works well in tandem with Aron's low Speed stat and Sturdy, which allows it to survive one hit from full health and potentially deal a lot of damage in return. Alternatively, Stealth Rock is another option for the last slot that can be used to wear down switch-ins and provide team support. Set Details The listed EVs maximize Aron's damage output while retaining its good physical bulk. No HP EVs are used so that Aron is able to recover all of its health from Berry Juice at 1 HP. 0 Speed IVs and a Brave nature ensure that Aron is as slow as possible so that it will be able to use Metal Burst after the foe attacks, as the move will fail if Aron moves first. Usage Tips Aron is usually able to take at least two hits thanks to Sturdy and Berry Juice, which brings Aron back to full health in order to withstand another attack. Because Berry Juice is Aron's only form of recovery, you should be wary of Knock Off users. Pokemon with the Mold Breaker ability, such as Drilbur, are able to ignore Sturdy, making it unwise for Aron to stay in on these Pokemon. Another Pokemon that Aron can set up on is Spritzee, which fails to do anything to Aron and is OHKOed by Heavy Slam. Similarly, Heavy Slam should be used on practically everything thanks to its high Base Power, which allows it to dent anything that does not resist it. Using coverage moves where appropriate is what Aron should do otherwise, but mainly spamming Heavy Slam is usually a good option. Team Options A Sticky Web setter, such as Surskit or Spinarak, is a necessity and is what this set revolves around. Another Pokemon that can set up entry hazards, such as Drilbur, is a useful partner because entry hazards can turn some 2HKOs into OHKOs. Preventing entry hazard removal is equally as important; Pawniard can deter Defog, while Ghost-types such as Gastly are able to block Rapid Spin. Pawniard in particular stands out for its ability to get rid of Gastly, which is unaffected by Sticky Web and threatens Aron with Shadow Ball or Destiny Bond.

With a Choice Band equipped, Aron becomes an immediate threat, boasting an Attack stat of 26 and a STAB 150 Base Power attack in Head Smash. The power of this set allows Aron to 2HKO almost everything in the tier, making it extremely hard to check. However, because this set trades Speed for power, Aron must be wary of any Pokemon faster than it, or else it will be revenge killed rather quickly. Head Smash has the sheer power and ability to break through many walls that Aron would usually have trouble with, such as Slowpoke. Iron Head, while not as powerful as Head Smash, still hits hard and is able to hit any Fighting- or Ground-types that resist Head Smash. Earthquake has great coverage with Head Smash and Iron Head, OHKOing most, if not all, Steel-types. Superpower is mainly on this set for its ability to hit Bronzor and Ferroseed, which otherwise wall this set. Still, Bronzor only takes a maximum of 40% from Superpower, so packing another Pokemon to beat Bronzor is recommended. The EV spread is the same as the above set. The Speed EVs allow Aron to hit 12 Speed, which isn't fast at all, but it allows Aron to outspeed many walls such as Frillish and Slowpoke. Max Attack is for as much power as possible, and the remaining EVs are used to increase Aron's mediocre Special Defense. Thunder Wave support is helpful, because it allows Aron to outspeed and KO Pokemon that usually are able to OHKO it first, such as Gastly. Natu is still a great partner for Aron for the same reasons as before: it can defeat most Fighting-types. Wynaut can dispose of Choice Scarf users and other fast Pokemon. Entry hazard support is also greatly appreciated, but no significant OHKOs result from Stealth Rock or one layer of Spikes.

This set is Aron's best shot at sweeping. Aron's horrible Speed stat significantly limits its sweeping potential, and Rock Polish is a great solution to this problem. After a single Rock Polish, Aron hits 26 Speed assuming a Jolly nature, outspeeding all unboosted Pokemon in Little Cup while getting the jump on Choice Scarf users with up to 17 Speed. This turns Aron into a formidable late-game sweeper. Sadly, setting up a Rock Polish is not easily accomplished because of the plethora of Fighting-types running around. Thanks to Aron's many resistances, though, it is possible with the correct team support. Head Smash is what makes Aron so dangerous, as it seriously dents anything that doesn't resist it. Iron Head is used for secondary STAB and has decent neutral coverage with Head Smash. Earthquake rounds out the coverage nicely, hitting any Steel-types except Bronzor. Life Orb is needed to do as much damage as possible, as Aron has no way to boost its Attack on this set. The EV spread maxes out Attack and Speed, while the rest of the EVs are dumped into Special Defense. A Jolly nature is preferred over Adamant, so Aron can outspeed Choice Scarf users with up to 17 Speed, such as Chinchou. However, Adamant is an option as Aron will still be able to outspeed every unboosted Pokemon in the metagame. Bulky walls such as Ferroseed take little damage from any of Aron's attacks, so they must be removed before Aron attempts to set up. Fighting-types are also very threatening to Aron, most notably Timburr, which has priority Mach Punch. Natu is a great partner for Aron because it can eliminate Fighting-types. Natu can also set up dual screens, helping Aron to set up more easily. Magnemite can get rid of many walls, including Bronzor, Ferroseed, and Slowpoke. A Fighting-type of your own, such as Mienfoo, can lure out Flying-types such as Taillow for Aron to use as setup fodder.

Aron's high physical bulk, good Attack, and unique Steel / Rock typing give it a niche as a tank. Protect lets it stall for Leftovers recovery and scout which move Choice Band users like Aipom and Pidgeotto lock themselves into. Double-Edge is Aron's strongest attack against neutral targets, dealing sizable damage to offensive foes like Aipom and Pokemon like Staryu and Seaking. Rock Slide primarily targets Flying-types like Pidgeotto and Taillow and Bug-types like Dustox and Butterfree. Earthquake mainly hits Rock-types like Rhyhorn and Nosepass, Electric-types like Elekid and Magnemite, and some Poison-types like Grimer. This EV spread maximizes Aron's Attack while giving it enough Speed investment to outspeed and revenge kill lure Rhyhorn, with the rest being dumped into HP. An EV spread of 40 HP / 252 Attack / 216 Spe can be used instead to outspeed all variants of Rhyhorn, though the loss in bulk is noticeable. Aron fits on balance teams that appreciate its unique defensive utility, taking advantage of other balance and some defensive teams. It stonewalls CurseTalk Grimer thanks to its immunity to Poison, making it a natural partner for teammates Grimer can otherwise take advantage of, like Delcatty and Elekid. Another notable Poison-type Aron does extremely well against is Dustox, making it pair nicely with special attackers that struggle against it like Elekid and Chinchou. It is also an excellent check to Choice Band Double-Edge users like Aipom, Pidgeotto, and Taillow, as it can switch into most of their attacks with ease, though it must be wary of their Fighting- and Ground-type coverage. Aron also must be wary of Ground-types such as Rhyhorn and Cubone, as well as Mankey, as they can easily OHKO it using their 4x super effective STAB attacks. Certain physical walls such as Bayleef and Koffing make good partners for their ability to switch into the Normal-types' coverage and check Ground- and Fighting-types. Most special attackers such as Chinchou and Growlithe have little trouble taking out Aron, so special walls and tanks like Delcatty and Castform are essential teammates. Aron struggles to break through Lileep and Koffing, so it appreciates wallbreakers like Substitute Delibird and mixed wallbreaker Seaking that work excellently in eliminating these foes. Chinchou deserves a special mention, as it can break through most physical walls, switch into and beat Water-types trying to eliminate Aron, and mitigate Aron's Speed issues using Thunder Wave.
