Clefairy offers incredible utility, giving teams a sturdy Knock Off user that can also establish Stealth Rock and disrupt foes with Thunder Wave, all valuable tools that help against the premier entry hazard removal option in the tier, Quaxwell. Encore can similarly disrupt the opponent, though it is prediction-reliant, as most things will be faster than Clefairy without being paralyzed. Night Shade can be used to provide consistent damage output, though it can't hit Dunsparce and Girafarig, giving them opportunities to set up in front of Clefairy. Magic Guard allows Clefairy to sponge status moves and other forms of residual damage for its teammates, such as Toxic from Dunsparce, Salt Cure from Naclstack, and Will-O-Wisp from Drakloak, though it does still suffer the effects of paralysis and takes boosted damage from Hex while statused. A specially defensive EV spread with a Calm nature lets Clefairy focus on checking Pokemon like Drakloak, Frogadier, and Choice Specs Drakloak, while a physically defensive EV spread with a Bold nature can let it check Monferno and Piloswine. A natural fit on balance and bulky offense teams, Clefairy can use its utility to free up a moveslot on teammates like Dunsparce, Gabite, and Piloswine. Clefairy uses its bulk and general longevity to disrupt the opposition drastically, allowing offensive teammates, like Frogadier and Girafarig, to clean late-game after Eviolites are removed from walls such as Dunsparce and Tinkatuff. Frogadier is a notable partner for Clefairy, as it uses Spikes to create an entry hazard-stacking core that, with Drakloak as a spinblocker, can rack up hazard chip damage. While Clefairy is fairly bulky and can use Moonlight to stick around for longer, it is generally frail once its Eviolite is removed and can struggle to wall the stronger setup sweepers and wallbreakers in the tier, such as Nasty Plot Girafarig, Contrary + Leaf Storm Servine, and Swords Dance Thwackey. To help with this, Hisuian Sliggoo can cover a lot of these threats because of its own bulk and Steel typing, and it can capitalize on Clefairy removing Eviolites on foes to maximize the damage output of its own strong STAB attacks like Draco Meteor and Flash Cannon. Koffing and Pawniard can also help sponge Knock Offs for Clefairy, with Koffing providing great offensive pressure with Toxic Spikes and Pawniard being a reliable wallbreaker. Fighting-types like Pignite can help Clefairy break through the bulkier Normal- and Steel-types that it can struggle against, like Dunsparce and Hisuian Sliggoo. Gabite can similarly help break through these Pokemon while also threatening Koffing and other Poison-types like Glimmet.

Clefairy is an excellent support Pokemon that utilizes its combination of Friend Guard and Follow Me to support frail partners. Sing is used to disable foes, while After You helps fast teams by letting its allies move before common checks like Calyrex-I in Trick Room. Clefairy can also opt for Heal Pulse to keep its team healthy. This particular EV spread allows Clefairy to almost always survive Mystic Water Urshifu-R's Tera Water-boosted Surging Strikes and cleanly survive Tera Electric Discharge from Choice Specs Miraidon. Tera Grass is preferred to redirect Amoonguss's Spore. A good partner for Clefairy is Calyrex-S, which appreciates After You to deal with Trick Room and Clefairy's defensive options mitigating its frailty, and helping it set up with Nasty Plot. Clefairy is also a good partner for Restricted Pokemon like Terapagos, Zamazenta, and Calyrex-I, with Follow Me and Friend Guard working in tandem with their naturally high bulk. Checks to Clefairy include Taunt users, notably Tornadus and Incineroar, which completely shut it down. It is also extremely passive, needing strong partners to make up for its passivity.

Set Details Clefairy is a great support tool for partners like setup Calyrex-S due to its ability Friend Guard and access to Follow Me to redirect attacks. After You is a good tool in Trick Room thanks to Clefairy's low Speed, allowing Calyrex-S to move before threats such as Calyrex-I, Iron Hands, and Ursaluna. Encore can lock a foe into an undesirable move such as Fake Out or Protect, allowing its partner to set up or focus on the other foe. Eviolite boosts the bulk of Clefairy, preventing it from being OHKOed by Electro Drift from Miraidon and allowing it to support its partner longer. The spread allows Clefairy to survive an Electro Drift from Miraidon and two Glacial Lances from Calyrex-I. It also lets Clefairy survive Sword of Ruin-boosted Behemoth Bash from Zamazenta-C. 0 Speed IVs let Clefairy underspeed Amoonguss and Calyrex-I so it can use After You in Trick Room before they can move. Tera Grass is used for ignoring powder moves so Clefairy can't be put to sleep with Spore from Amoonguss while letting Clefairy resist Electro Drift from Miraidon and Wood Hammer from Rillaboom. Tera Water is good for extra survivability against Steel-type moves like Behemoth Blade from Zacian-C and reduces the amount of damage taken by Flare Blitz from Koraidon. Teambuilding Taunt is a very strong counter to Clefairy, as it removes any of the support that Clefairy can provide, forcing Clefairy to swap out. Amoongus can put Clefairy to sleep using Spore, since it moves first outside of Trick Room, or hit it with STAB Sludge Bomb, which can also threaten Tera Grass Clefairy. Calyrex-I using Glacial Lance and Calyrex-S using Astral Barrage can hit both targets, which makes Follow Me useless. Zacian-C with Behemoth Blade can OHKO Clefairy and Zamazenta-C with Behemoth Bash and Heavy Slam can 2HKO Clefairy. Calyrex-S is a great partner for Clefairy, since Clefairy can offer support with Friend Guard, Helping Hand, and Follow Me. Calyrex-S lacks bulk, so the redirection from Clefairy can let Calyrex-S live longer. After You can help Calyrex-S move first in Trick Room, where it normally struggles due to its high Speed. Calyrex-S also handles Calyrex-I, Amoonguss, and opposing Calyrex-S, all of which Clefairy struggles against. Calyrex-S has an easier time setting up next to Clefairy due to the support it offers.

Moonblast lets Clefairy hit foes like Thievul and Absol, while Seismic Toss deals consistent damage to targets with high Special Defense like Gigalith and Steel-types like Aggron. Knock Off cripples Pokemon heavily reliant on their items like Doublade and Charizard. Encore prevents setup and can deter recovery moves from being used. Thunder Wave cripples faster foes like Galarian Articuno and Jellicent. Running 10 Speed IVs is an option to always avoid the 2HKO from Gyro Ball Ferroseed; however, this means that Clefairy underspeeds important Pokemon like Gigalith and Quagsire. Clefairy struggles against Poison- and Steel-types like Weezing and Ferroseed, so switch-ins to them like Wishiwashi and Charizard are heavily appreciated. Wishiwashi sponges Knock Off from Gallade and Sandslash for Clefairy, while in return, Clefairy is able to take on its checks like Lanturn; as for Charizard, Clefairy switches into Rock-types like Gigalith and Regirock for it.

战术分析
Clefairy is an excellent special wall in ZU due to its awesome Eviolite-boosted bulk, coveted Fairy typing, and its wonderful ability in Magic Guard. Magic Guard makes it hard to weaken Clefairy through normal means like entry hazards and Toxic. Knock Off lets it cripple its switch-ins that rely on their item to check Clefairy in the long run like Klinklang, Skuntank, and Rapidash. Toxic is Clefairy's best way to wear down opposing walls, as its Moonblast is really weak but most opposing walls are heavily threatened by Toxic and cannot threaten Clefairy back. Teleport is an option to let Clefairy act as a defensive pivot and bring a partner on the field, however it is incompatible with Knock Off and Soft-Boiled, meaning Clefairy has to rely on the Moonlight, which has more limited PP and prevents Clefairy from checking Choice Specs Abomasnow. Clefairy can also run Stealth Rock if one of its partner isn't running it. Clefairy works best on the more defensive teams like stall and balance. Ground-types like Alolan Dugtrio, Stunfisk, and Galarian Stunfisk make for amazing partners for Clefairy; they can check Steel- and Poison-types like Klinklang and Silvally-Poison for it, run Stealth Rock which frees up one of Clefairy's moveslot for Toxic, and also bring an Electric-immunity that prevents the likes of Rotom and Manectric from freely using Volt Switch on Clefairy. In return, Clefairy can check attackers like Jynx, Thievul, and Exeggutor. Physical walls such as Tangela and Miltank help Clefairy dealing with physical attackers like Silvally, Thwackey, and Kangaskhan; Knock Off absorbers like Alcremie, Sableye, and Poliwrath are also invaluable. Fast but frail attackers like Froslass, Liepard, and Accelgor appreciate Clefairy's ability to use Teleport to bring them safely.

With a solid defensive typing, above average bulk, and Magic Guard to absorb status, Clefairy makes for a great physical defensive wall which provides teams with reliable utility. Moonblast is Clefairy's primary attack, dealing solid damage to common Fighting- and Dark-types such as Gurdurr, Vullaby, and Machoke, although it should be wary of Machoke's Heavy Slam. Soft-Boiled gives Clefairy the longevity to be a reliable defensive wall throughout the game as well as a scouting tool. Knock Off removes opposing Eviolites, weakening the defensive capability of foes like Klang and Hattrem. Thunder Wave cripples setup sweepers like Wartortle and faster attackers like Thwackey that try to take advantage of Clefairy's passive nature. Alternatively, if the team is lacking a Stealth Rock user, Clefairy can fulfill that role while Flamethrower can be used to deal some damage to Steel-types such as Ferroseed, which typically switch in on Clefairy. Clefairy should use Soft-Boiled to remain as healthy in order reliably check physical threats like Piloswine and Fraxure. Clefairy's Eviolite should be preserved, as it requires its item to perform its role as a wall. If Clefairy is running Stealth Rock, it should only try to set it up once an opposing Hattrem is removed. Knock Off should be used often early-game to remove as many Eviolites as possible to help with cleaners like Gurdurr and Wartortle. Wallbreakers, such as Rufflet and Piloswine, also appreciate Knock Off support as well as Clefairy's ability to lower the speed of opposing Pokemon with Thunder Wave. Specially defensive walls like Klang, Mareanie, and Ferroseed make for solid partners and are reliable switch-ins to Gastly so that Clefairy is not as easily revenge killed by it. Clefairy is very passive and works best when paired with U-turn and Parting Shot users such as Raboot and Galarian Linoone to avoid losing too much momentum.

Clefairy is a reliable Wish passer due to its great HP stat, defensive typing, and Teleport for slow pivoting. Moonblast is this set's only attacking move, dealing with Dark-, Dragon-, and Fighting-types and stopping it from being completely susceptible to Taunt. Wish can heal both Clefairy and its teammates like Machoke and Hattrem that lack recovery. Protect allows Clefairy to guarantee it receives its Wish as well as scout common Choice item holders such as Raboot and Hattrem. Alternatively, Moonlight works for its instantaneous recovery. Clefairy should switch into physical attackers, such as Gurdurr and Piloswine, or relatively passive Pokemon like Galarian Corsola in order to heal its teammates safely. Wallbreakers that lack recovery such as Lampent, Piloswine, and Raboot all benefit from the healing provided by Clefairy to enable them to switch in more reliably; these three may also switch into anticipated Poison- and Steel-type attacks that target Clefairy. Fighting- and Fire-types like Gurdurr and Raboot can cover for Clefairy's Steel-type weakness, and in return Clefairy is able to keep them healthy. Clefairy's passivity makes it vulnerable to setup sweepers like Klang and Wartortle, so use Teleport to safely bring in wallbreakers and revenge killers like Raboot and Thwackey to deal with these sweepers.

Moves Seismic Toss makes up for Clefairy's passivity by giving it a consistent source of damage against switch-ins like Steelix and Garbodor. Soft-Boiled lets Clefairy consistently switch into threats like Slowking, Rotom, and Sigilyph and recover health afterwards. Knock Off enables Clefairy to cripple remove items from Pokemon like Weezing, Vaporeon, and Golbat. Thunder Wave is helpful to slow down faster attackers like Aerodactyl and Sigilyph, although Toxic can be used to cripple Pokemon like Rhydon, Rotom, and Dhelmise instead. Wish is also a good option so Clefairy can support teammates such as Steelix and Garbodor. Moonblast has a small niche as an option to hit Scrafty and Pangoro for heavy damage, although Clefairy will generally prefer the utility its other options provide it with. Set Details The HP and Defense investment alongside an Eviolite lets Clefairy survive two Stone Edges from non-Choice Band Aerodactyl, while the remaining EVs go into Special Defense with a Calm nature so Clefairy can consistently check special attackers such as Heliolisk, Sigilyph, and Magmortar. Magic Guard enables Clefairy to switch into bulky Water-types like Slowking, Blastoise, and Vaporeon without needing to worry about being poisoned by Toxic or burned by Scald.

战术分析
Moves Calm Mind increases Clefairy's Special Attack and Special Defense, which gives it an easier time taking special attacks from Pokemon such as Aurorus and Ludicolo and makes Moonblast harder to switch into. Soft-Boiled gives Clefairy the ability to regain any lost HP, allowing it to continuously switch into special attackers like Swanna and Rotom-F throughout the match. Thunder Wave can be used instead of Toxic to cripple checks like Victreebel and Alolan Sandslash as well as give Clefairy an easier time setting up against Pokemon like Jellicent. Thunder Wave also supports Clefairy's team by providing speed control. Knock Off is another alternative that cripples Pokemon that are reliant on their item for either bulk or longevity such as opposing Clefairy, Type: Null, and Regirock as well as Choice Specs users like Aurorus and Jellicent. Knock Off also allows Clefairy to scout for Z-Crystals. Seismic Toss is another option that can be useful for preserving Moonblast's PP against Pokemon like Alolan Sandslash and Aggron. Toxic can also be used to put opposing Pokemon on timers to give Clefairy an easier time KOing them with Moonblast. Set Details An alternative EV spread with maximum investment in HP and Defense using a Relaxed nature can be used in order to give Clefairy an easier time taking hits from Pokemon like physical Skuntank that become rather annoying to take down due to Calm Mind increasing its Special Defense, though Clefairy is outclassed as a physical wall by Pokemon like Tangela due to its Defense being rather lackluster even with investment. Furthermore, this leaves Clefairy more vulnerable to stronger special attackers like Drampa, which 2HKOes it with Hyper Voice. Either speed-reducing nature and 0 Speed IVs minimize the damage that Clefairy takes from Ferroseed's Gyro Ball. Magic Guard blocks all forms of residual damage, including hail from Aurorus, which gives Clefairy an easier time switching into strong special attacks if entry hazards are up. Magic Guard also allows Clefairy to avoid being damaged by status conditions. Usage Tips Clefairy should prioritize setting up Stealth Rock or crippling foes with one of either Thunder Wave or Knock Off early-game, as it is unsafe to set up Calm Mind before threats that can take out Clefairy like Victreebel and Aggron have been removed. Late-game, once these physical attackers are gone, Clefairy can safely use Calm Mind, as there won't be much that can pressure it out of setting up and sweeping by this point. Against more defensive teams that can't pressure Clefairy offensively, however, it has more opportunities to set up. Clefairy finds setting up against stall teams much easier due to Magic Guard preventing damage from Toxic and their inability to effectively pressure it. Clefairy should primarily switch into special attackers, since they more than likely won't be doing much damage to it and can give it a chance to set up. Because of Magic Guard nullifying passive damage, use Clefairy as a status absorber for teams that are vulnerable to moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Toxic from Pokemon like Regirock and Poliwrath. Clefairy should mainly set up on passive Pokemon such as Tangela or Regirock. Be cautious of Knock Off, as even though Clefairy resists it, it loses quite a bit of its bulk and is unable to reliably switch into stronger special attackers like Choice Specs Drampa if it loses its Eviolite. Scouting for Taunt from foes such as Oricorio-E and Jellicent is important, since they can take Clefairy by surprise, prevent it from recovering, and KO it if it has been weakened enough. Team Options Balance teams appreciate the solid role compression that Clefairy provides, since it can set up Stealth Rock while also serving as a wincon against opposing balance and stall teams. Jellicent is a great partner for Clefairy due to its ability to check and cripple most physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp, most notably physical Skuntank, and can create setup opportunities for Clefairy with Taunt. In a similar vein, other physically bulky Pokemon such as Mudsdale, Tangela, Sableye, and Ferroseed pair well with Clefairy, since they are capable of taking on many of the physical attackers that threaten Clefairy while it handles stronger Ice- and Fire-types in return. Due to its weaknesses to Poison and Steel, Clefairy appreciates being paired with Ground-types like Gastrodon and Mudsdale due to their ability to check foes with these typings and also wear down specially bulky Pokemon like Encore Audino with Toxic. Wallbreakers such as Aggron, Simisear, and Kangaskhan are appreciated, since they heavily pressure Pokemon like Aggron and Skuntank for Clefairy. In return, Clefairy can switch into status conditions and potentially weaken or slow down their offensive checks with Stealth Rock and Thunder Wave.

Moves Soft-Boiled gives Clefairy the ability to keep itself healthy, allowing it to check special attackers consistently throughout the match. Seismic Toss gives Clefairy a way of dealing a fixed amount of damage to all targets barring Ghost-types, including some of Clefairy's checks such as Alolan Sandslash. Moonblast, on the other hand, gives Clefairy a STAB option that deals super effective damage to Dark-types such as Absol and Spiritomb, as well as Fighting-types such as Hitmonchan and Primeape. Should the team already have a Stealth Rock user, Knock Off should be used for crippling Assault Vest and Eviolite users, such as Eelektross, opposing Clefairy, and Type: Null; Pokemon reliant on their Leftovers or Black Sludge for recovery such as Regirock, Alolan Sandslash, and Skuntank; and Choice-locked wallbreakers such as Stoutland by removing their item. Knock Off also allows Clefairy to scout for Z-Moves. Toxic is used to cripple opposing Pokemon by putting them on timers, preventing Pokemon such as Musharna from freely setting up on Clefairy, and gives it the ability to wear down Pokemon with reliable recovery that aren't weak to Moonblast without resorting to PP stalling. Alternatively, Thunder Wave can be opted for to slow opposing Pokemon down and provide speed control. Set Details A Sassy nature and 0 Speed IVs minimize the damage Clefairy takes from Ferroseed's Gyro Ball. Magic Guard is Clefairy's only viable ability, and it prevents Clefairy from taking any damage from entry hazards, status conditions, and weather, giving it a much easier time switching into special attacks and allowing it to absorb status. Usage Tips Clefairy should primarily pivot into special attackers such as Silvally-Dragon and Swanna. Take advantage of how Clefairy forces these Pokemon out by setting up Stealth Rock or firing off one of Toxic and Thunder Wave on the turn that they switch, as this applies immediate pressure. Use Soft-Boiled once Clefairy begins taking damage to keep it consistently healthy, allowing it to better take on special attackers. Soft-Boiled can also be used to stall out attackers once they've been put on a timer by Toxic. Clefairy should prioritize remaining healthy rather than crippling a Pokemon that's switching out if it has already taken prior damage, as this leaves it unable to switch in on Pokemon like Choice Scarf Aurorus as reliably. Because of Magic Guard, Clefairy can also act as a status absorber for teams, so switch it in on Toxic or Will-O-Wisp from Pokemon such as Gastrodon and Spiritomb to avoid letting another member get crippled. Magic Guard and Clefairy's aforementioned coverage options allow Clefairy to serve as a good pivot against stall teams due to Clefairy not being affected by chip damage from status and entry hazards. Due to Clefairy's susceptibility to Knock Off, Clefairy also is not a reliable Dark-type answer and should generally not be switched in on Dark-types or Pokemon that commonly run Knock Off either. Team Options Physically defensive Pokemon such as Ferroseed, Regirock, Jellicent, and Mudsdale can handle stronger physical attackers for Clefairy, while Clefairy can switch into special attackers that threaten them such as Aurorus and Articuno. Additionally, Jellicent and Sableye both have access to Will-O-Wisp, which is useful for weakening physical attackers such as Aggron. Checks to Poison- and Steel-types are important, since they are immune to Toxic, resist Moonblast, and can still KO Clefairy even if they take a Knock Off, so Pokemon such as Ferroseed, Mudsdale, and Jellicent make for good partners. Wallbreakers that can take advantage of opposing Pokemon being slowed down by Thunder Wave such as Aggron and Crabominable are good partners, as Clefairy eases the matchup against their offensive checks. In return, these wallbreakers break through Poison- and Steel-types that Clefairy struggles with. Slower wallbreakers with better physical bulk such as Aggron appreciate having Clefairy to fall back on when a special attacker such as Alolan Raichu switches in to revenge kill them. Clefairy also fits well on stall because of its solid defensive capabilities, and Pokemon that are most common on stall teams such as Audino and Articuno can benefit from Clefairy soaking up status.

Friend Guard Clefairy has a niche as a redirector in its ability to reduce the damage its partner receives from spread damage. The EVs make Timid Mega Charizard Y’s Heat Wave and Landorus-T’s Earthquake a 3HKO. Icy Wind is a good speed control option, although Trick Room teams can make use of After You thanks to Clefairy’s low Speed. Heal Pulse is often chosen for its synergy with Friend Guard, especially on PerishTrap teams, where Shadow Tag Mega Gengar and Gothitelle must remain healthy to maintain the trap. Setup sweepers such as Quiver Dance Volcarona and Dragon Dance Mega Salamence also appreciate Clefairy.

Moves Moonblast is Clefairy's most powerful and reliable STAB move that targets Fighting- and Dark-type Pokemon such as Hariyama, Hitmonchan, and Shiftry and has a decent chance to lower the foe's Special Attack, letting it tank hits much more comfortably. Seismic Toss is an alternative to deal more damage to the likes of Steelix, Weezing, and Garbodor. Make sure to use it in tandem with Knock Off as Clefairy cannot touch Rotom otherwise. Soft-Boiled grants Clefairy reliable recovery, ensuring it stays healthy throughout the match. Thunder Wave cripples Pokemon that attempt to use Clefairy as setup bait and is also useful for slowing down speedy threats such as Pyroar and Swellow. Stealth Rock supports the entire team by racking up chip damage. If the team already has another Pokemon with Stealth Rock, Knock Off lets Clefairy remove items, which is beneficial to weaken wallbreakers that use Life Orb or Choice items and hinder defensive Pokemon that rely on their item for longevity such as Steelix, Weezing, and Rhydon. Healing Wish can be used to give a weakened Pokemon a second shot at sweeping. Set Details The given EV spread and a Calm nature maximize Clefairy's special bulk, enabling it to switch into powerful special attackers such as Pyroar, Magmortar, and Samurott. Eviolite increases Clefairy's defenses further, letting it take special hits more effectively and additionally letting it soft check some Fighting-types. Magic Guard is chosen to make it immune to status such as burn and poison and all entry hazards. Usage Tips Use Clefairy to pivot into powerful special attackers such as Magmortar and Samurott. Just be sure to scout for Samurott's set before switching into it, as Clefairy loses to its Swords Dance set. Clefairy can also be brought in on status moves such as Rotom's Will-O-Wisp, letting it act as a status sponge for the team. Once Clefairy is brought in, it's generally best to throw out Thunder Wave, crippling potential switch-ins. Try to keep Clefairy healthy with Soft-Boiled and use it in situations where the foe cannot deal much damage in return. However, when at low HP and pinned up against a setup sweeper, do not use Soft-Boiled, as this gives the opponent a free setup opportunity; instead, either use Thunder Wave or switch out to the appropriate teammate. When a free turn presents itself, use it as an opportunity to set up Stealth Rock if Clefairy has not already done so. Healing Wish should be used carefully; it may be tempting to bring back a weakened teammate to full health, but its use should generally be avoided if Clefairy is needed to check a specific threat. Team Options Bulky Water-types such as Pelipper and Poliwrath pair best with this set, as they are able to switch into Steelix, one of Clefairy's best and most common answers, and can check other Steel-types such as Klinklang and Mawile. Samurott functions in a similar manner, being able to threaten Steelix and Rhydon while also appreciating Clefairy's ability to give it a second shot at sweeping with Healing Wish or slow down faster foes with Thunder Wave. Weezing also switches into Steelix freely and can burn it with Will-O-Wisp; it also switches into Fighting-types reliably, while Clefairy is able to switch into powerful special attackers that take advantage of Weezing's mediocre Special Defense. Rotom switches into Steelix, Klinklang, and Scyther very well, burns all of them with Will-O-Wisp, and takes advantage of Clefairy's ability to spread Thunder Wave, not only slowing down faster threats for Rotom but also providing it with a full-powered Hex without the need for it to spread status of its own. Slower wallbreakers such as Magmortar and Aurorus also pair well with Clefairy, as both appreciate its ability to slow down faster threats with Thunder Wave.

Moves Calm Mind lets Clefairy simultaneously boost its Special Attack and Special Defense, making it difficult for the opposing team to manage after a couple boosts. Moonblast is a reliable STAB move that has good neutral coverage, notably hitting Dark- and Fighting-type Pokemon such as Shiftry, Hariyama, and Hitmonchan, as well as a nice chance the lower the foe's Special Attack. Soft-Boiled is mandatory to ensure Clefairy is able to stay healthy so it can keep setting up Calm Mind. Thunder Wave lets Clefairy slow down its checks, such as Garbodor, Weezing, and Klinklang, while also potentially netting free turns. Fire Blast is an alternative that lets Clefairy hit Steel-types, which wall this set otherwise, and is used over Flamethrower to score the 2HKO on Steelix after a Calm Mind boost. Set Details The given EV spread plus Eviolite lets Clefairy avoid the 2HKO from Choice Band Primeape's Earthquake and Stone Edge, Choice Specs Swellow's Boomburst, and non-Life Orb Magmortar's Fire Blast. Magic Guard is used to grant Clefairy an immunity to all forms of passive damage, ensuring that it can keep setting up even after inflicted with poison or burn. Usage Tips While Clefairy's checks and counters are still present, use Thunder Wave to catch them on the switch so it has a better shot at cleaning through teams. When matched up against Steelix, though, switch into teammates that are able to check it, as Clefairy has no means of dealing with it. If Fire Blast is used, however, use it to catch Steel-types on the switch to wear them down to the point where they cannot check Clefairy anymore. Once Clefairy's checks have been crippled or weakened, set up Calm Mind to initiate a sweep mid- to late-game. When setting up Calm Mind, try not to be greedy with the boosts, as the more turns it wastes, the more likely it is to be KOed with a critical hit. Use Soft-Boiled to stay healthy throughout the game, and use it on turns that it is its safe to do so. In some situations where Clefairy has around half of its HP, the opponent might try to take advantage of Clefairy using Soft-Boiled that turn to get a free switch in. Respond to this by using Thunder Wave or attacking. Try to avoid being hit by Knock Off, as without Eviolite, Clefairy is left vulnerable to more physical attackers and cannot set up Calm Mind as comfortably against special attackers. Team Options Weezing is a great partner, as it can burn foes with Will-O-Wisp, letting Clefairy set up Calm Mind against physical attackers much more comfortably, as well as switch into Steelix, one of the biggest stops to this set without Fire Blast. Weezing's access to Toxic Spikes also aids Clefairy when setting up, letting it stall out foes it cannot beat otherwise such as Musharna. Rotom also works well at dismantling Steelix and supports Clefairy by spreading burns as well. Steelix can switch into a multitude of physical attackers that can heavily damage Clefairy such as Klinklang, Garbodor, Tauros, Kangaskhan, and Archeops. It also hard stops Musharna and Mega Audino, which can otherwise win a Calm Mind war versus Clefairy. Pelipper can switch into Steelix by virtue of its typing and switches into Fighting-types semi-reliably. Vileplume functions in a similar manner, except that it tends to invite Fire-types that Clefairy can use as setup bait. Fire-types such as Magmortar and Pyroar are useful for breaking past Steel-types that otherwise are a hard stop to this set. Magmortar in particular appreciates Thunder Wave support, letting it threaten faster threats.

Moves Calm Mind allows Clefairy to boost its Special Attack and Special Defense, making it tank hits better while also allowing it to set up with more ease. Soft-Boiled provides recovery, as without Leftovers, Clefairy will get worn down easily. Moonblast, Clefairy's primary STAB move, has decent coverage in the PU metagame. Thunder Wave cripples faster threats and allows Clefairy to set up on Pokemon such as Roselia and Probopass, whereas Stored Power hits Poison- and Fire-types and is fairly strong after a few uses of Calm Mind. Flamethrower hits Steel-types and Roselia and can do decent damage to switch-ins, but running it over Stored Power makes Clefairy lose to Fire-types. Set Details Maximum HP and Defense investment increases Clefairy's physical bulk to allow it to take both physical and special hits well after Calm Mind boosts. Eviolite increases Clefairy's bulk even more, allowing it to take physical hits decently well. Usage Tips Clefairy should set up on walls, such as Altaria. It is best used late-game, when stronger threats and Pokemon that resist Fairy are gone. Clefairy should spam Calm Mind and Soft-Boiled until it has enough boosts to sweep. Clefairy should try not to take a Knock Off, as without its Eviolite, Clefairy is fairly frail and easier to revenge kill. Team Options Toxic Spikes from Roselia allows Clefairy to pressure the opposing team when setting up and stall out strong Pokemon that can only knock Clefairy down to half its HP with Soft-Boiled. Ground-types, such as Camerupt and Golem, can threaten Poison-, Steel-, and Fire-types for Clefairy. Water-type Pokemon, such as Prinplup, check Fire-types, which can set up on Clefairy. Monferno is a particularly good teammate, as it checks Fire- and Steel-types while also being able to take a Knock Off. Other physical walls, such as Solrock, Tangela, and Stunfisk, which beat strong Pokemon such as Stoutland, are appreciated. Clefairy fits better on defensive teams due to its passive nature, but it can be used on balanced teams.

Moves Soft-Boiled is Clefairy's main form of reliable recovery; however, it doesn't allow Clefairy to fully support its teammates like Wish does. Moonblast is Clefairy's main STAB move and only offensive tool, and it is useful to hit Fighting- and Dragon-types hard, even without Special Attack investment whereas Seismic Toss does more reliable damage. Thunder Wave can cripple fast threats, such as Ninetales and Simipour, and support slower teammates. Stealth Rock is useful to passively damage the enemy's team every time a foe switches in, making it easier for teammates to get KOs. Knock Off provides even more utility, as it allows Clefairy to cripple Pokemon that rely on their items, especially bulky Eviolite users that usually switch in on Clefairy, such as opposing Clefairy. Healing Wish is an option to let Clefairy fully heal a wounded teammate, potentially giving them a second shot at sweeping Set Details Maximum HP and Special Defensive investment with a Calm nature allows Clefairy to be as durable as possible to tank hits even from strong and common special attackers such as Simipour and Ninetales without much trouble. 4 Defense EVs make Clefairy a bit bulkier physically. Eviolite provides Clefairy with a great source of bulk, allowing it to be a specially defensive wall, but it also makes Clefairy rely on its item. Magic Guard prevents Clefairy from taking residual damage from status and entry hazards, which is greatly appreciated, especially when it has to switch in multiple times. Usage Tips Try to set up Stealth Rock as soon as possible to rack up as much residual damage as possible on foes. Clefairy isn't supposed to switch in on strong physical attackers, such as Stoutland and Ursaring, as its physical bulk isn't that good, even with the boost that Eviolite gives. Clefairy should pivot in on weak attackers or specially based ones, such as Grumpig and Zebstrika, as they deal little damage to it, and make use of free turns by using utility moves such as Thunder Wave to cripple foes. Be wary to Knock Off users, such as Pawniard and Simipour, as they can remove Clefairy's Eviolite, reducing its bulk and limiting its opportunities to switch in. Clefairy has to stay healthy throughout the match to keep pivoting in on strong special attackers, such as Simipour and Kadabra, so it should use Soft-Boiled often. Team Options Clefairy fits best on stall and balanced teams, as it is a good special wall with access to decent coverage and utility moves, which allows it to support teammates effectively, but it is too passive to work well on offensively oriented teams. Misdreavus fits well on defensively oriented teams, as it blocks Rapid Spin and threatens strong physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp and Foul Play. Camerupt synergizes well with Clefairy, as it is able to check Fire- and Steel-types, which wall Clefairy. Because Clefairy struggles with physical attackers, physical walls such as Tangela and Stunfisk are good partners, thanks to their high Defense stat.

Moves Moonblast lets Clefairy beat the offensive Pokemon that it checks and hits Dragon-types for decent damage, but it has disappointing power otherwise. Soft-Boiled lets Clefairy keep itself healthy, and Healing Wish is the main reason to use Clefairy over other Fairy-types, restoring a teammate to full HP. Finally, Thunder Wave allows Clefairy to cripple most of its switch-ins, such as Crobat and Entei, and prevent Pokemon like Feraligatr and Slurpuff from setting up on it freely. Stealth Rock may be used if none of Clefairy's teammates have it already, and Encore is a viable option in the fourth slot to temporarily deter slower setup sweepers such as Reuniclus and Snorlax. Set Details Clefairy's Special Defense is maximized with the given EV spread and a Calm nature in order to take hits from the likes of Mega Blastoise, Mega Sceptile, and Choice Specs Kyurem. Magic Guard negates entry hazard and status damage, allowing Clefairy to switch into and avoid the 2HKO from the above Pokemon. Eviolite is the only viable item on Clefairy, giving it a much-needed increase in bulk. Usage Tips Clefairy works best on bulky offense teams as a pivot into special attackers such as Hydreigon and Mega Sceptile and as a tool to revive a weakened teammate. Clefairy should use Thunder Wave on expected switches to the likes of Cobalion and Crobat, crippling them and making them vastly easier for a teammate to deal with. Clefairy's offensive teammtes should be preserved in order to revive them late-game with Healing Wish. Team Options Sweepers such as Swords Dance Mega Abomasnow and Nasty Plot Lucario can take full advantage of Healing Wish and Thunder Wave. Clefairy appreciates teammates that can deal with Fire- and Steel-types; offensive Suicune can deal with many of these threats and also benefits from Healing Wish. Cobalion and Acrobatics Crobat can be useful to switch into Knock Off to help Clefairy preserve its Eviolite against threats such as Krookodile and Mega Absol. Clefairy needs the support of wallbreakers such as Choice Band Tyrantrum that can KO the bulky setup sweepers, such as Suicune and Reuniclus, that it tends to draw in.

Moves Follow Me can provide free turns for Clefairy's teammates by redirecting attacks and keeping them healthy. Clefairy has very low offensive presence; however, Icy Wind allows it to slow down opposing Pokemon and prevents it from being forced out, even after it has been hit by Taunt. Heal Pulse allows Clefairy to heal its teammates by 50% and help them stay on the field longer when combined with Friend Guard. Alternatively, Helping Hand helps Clefairy's teammates deal more damage and potentially net OHKOs that they usually couldn't get. Protect gives Clefairy longevity, can help provide free turns, and keeps Friend Guard active for longer. Set Details 252 HP EVs and 192 Defense EVs coupled with Eviolite allow Clefairy to always survive Life Orb Bisharp's Iron Head, while the remaining EVs are placed into Special Defense to allow Clefairy to survive Aegislash's Flash Cannon. Eviolite provides Clefairy with slightly more bulk than Clefable. Friend Guard boosts Clefairy's teammates' bulk and gives it a niche over Clefable. An EV spread of 252 HP / 152 Def / 104 SpD with a Calm nature can be used, as it allows Clefairy to still survive Adamant Mega Kangaskhan's Double-Edge and provides a lot more special bulk. Usage Tips Clefairy should only be used for Friend Guard to help its teammates set up; otherwise, a different Follow Me user such as Clefable or Togekiss should be used. Friend Guard is only active when Clefairy is on the field, so keeping it safe by using Protect against powerful opposing Pokemon such as Bisharp and Mega Metagross can give its teammate an opportunity to heavily damage them. Follow Me should be used to allow teammates to set up or prevent them from taking damage from powerful attacks. If there is an opportunity for Clefairy's teammate to OHKO an opposing Pokemon, use Helping Hand. Do not be afraid to lose Clefairy, as it has only one job in supporting its teammates, and if it faints while doing so, it means that it has done its job. Team Options Strong attackers that have good bulk such as Mega Charizard Y and Mega Kangaskhan work well with Follow Me and Friend Guard support. Mega Charizard Y can take out the Steel-types that threaten Clefairy and has more opportunities to spam Heat Wave when aided by Clefairy's redirection support. Mega Kangaskhan can set up with Power-Up Punch against the opposing team while Clefairy redirects their moves. Substitute users such as Heatran and Kyurem-B appreciate the ability to set up for free with redirection support, and both of them are very bulky with Friend Guard active. Belly Drum Azumarill can get free turns to set up with Belly Drum and becomes difficult to take down because Friend Guard boosts its already good bulk. Clefairy fits best on offensive teams because it has next to no offensive presence and its teammates appreciate the extra bulk.

Moves Follow Me lets Clefairy redirect and tank hits for its partner. Helping Hand lets Clefairy boost its partner's offenses and makes up somewhat for its bad offenses. Moonblast is Clefairy's strongest and most reliable attack, while Icy Wind is a much weaker attack that provides speed control. Protect shields Clefairy for a turn. Set Details Friend Guard is the main reason to use Clefairy over Clefable or Togekiss. The ability reduces the damage Clefairy's partner Pokemon receives, making Clefairy's partner very hard to deal with. 252 HP / 172 Def lets Clefairy always survive Adamant maximum Attack Mega Kangaskhan's Double-Edge. The Special Attack investment allows Clefairy's Moonblast to OHKO 4 SpD Hydreigon 100% of the time. If using Icy Wind, move the Special Attack EVs to Special Defense. Usage Tips Follow Me is used to protect Clefairy's partner from attacks, and Helping Hand is used occasionally to boost the partner's offenses. Don't be afraid to let Clefairy go down if it's taking a lot of nasty hits. It's better for Clefairy to do its job for a little while than sit around and not do anything later on. Team Options Pokemon that can set up with Substitute or boosting moves, such as Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Metagross, Mega Salamence, Swords Dance Terrakion, Nasty Plot Thundurus, and Heatran, are all great partners. Tailwind and Trick Room users such as Suicune and Jellicent greatly appreciate Follow Me's redirectional support and Friend Guard's defensive boost. Pokemon that can take out Steel-types, such as Heatran and Mega Charizard Y, are also good partners. Dragon-types such as Hydreigon and Steel-types such as Aegislash and Heatran naturally compliment Clefairy. A rule of thumb when using Clefairy is to make sure that its partner is able to make up for Clefairy's extreme lack of offensive presence.

Moves Follow Me lets Clefairy redirect and tank hits for its partner. Snatch is an excellent support move, stealing Tailwind, Wide Guard, and Quick Guard for Clefairy's more offensive teammates. Protect lets Clefairy stick around for a bit longer, allowing your other two Pokemon to further take advantage of Friend Guard. The last slot can be somewhat tricky to choose, as Clefairy has plenty of viable options. Heal Pulse allows Clefairy to give any of its teammates a second chance at life, which is especially deadly when paired with Friend Guard's defense-boosting power and Trick Room, under which Clefairy suddenly becomes a speed demon. Helping Hand lets Clefairy boost a partner's offenses and makes up somewhat for its bad offenses, and it is especially useful if your team is full of spread move users. Icy Wind is rather weak, but it gives non-Trick Room based teams another form of speed control, while Moonblast is Clefairy's strongest and most reliable STAB attack. Set Details Friend Guard is the main reason to use Clefairy over Amoonguss or Togekiss. The ability reduces the damage that Clefairy's partner Pokemon receive, making them very hard to deal with. 252 HP EVs and 172 Defense EVs let Clefairy always survive Adamant maximum Attack Mega Kangaskhan's Double-Edge, while the rest of the EVs are put in Special Defense for maximum special tanking power. If your team is especially worried about Hydreigon, you can invest 20 Special Attack EVs, which allows Clefairy to OHKO Hydreigon with Moonblast. 12 Special Attack EVs also allow Clefairy to 2HKO Terrakion with the moves. A Sassy nature with 0 Speed IVs is also a good choice for Clefairy, allowing it to take deadly special attacks such as Sylveon's Hyper Voice better and making it fairly fast under Trick Room. If your team uses other forms of speed control such as Tailwind and Icy Wind, a Calm nature may be preferable. If you are more concerned about surviving powerful Steel-type attacks, a Relaxed or Bold nature with an EV spread of 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 SpD allows Clefairy to survive a Life Orb-boosted Iron Head from Bisharp. Usage Tips Follow Me is used to protect Clefairy's partners from attacks, and it should be used often to give Clefairy's teammates the chance to set up. If your team encounters Quick Guard or Wide Guard, use Snatch to steal them for your own team, aiding Clefairy's teammates' offensive presence. Snatch is also a great move to use against a predicted Tailwind. Meanwhile, Heal Pulse should be used often to keep Clefairy's bulky teammates on the battlefield longer. If using Helping Hand, targeting spread attack teammates maximizes your team's chance of dealing massive damage. Don't be afraid to let Clefairy go down if it's taking a lot of nasty hits. It's better for Clefairy to do its job for a little while than sit around and not do anything later on. Positioning is an especially important aspect of Clefairy in Battle Spot Triples. It may be tempting to place Clefairy in the middle to make maximum use of Follow Me, but be warned: getting hit by three attacks will often knock Clefairy out, meaning that your team will lose its Friend Guard support in one turn. To make the best use of Friend Guard and Follow Me, you'll usually want Clefairy on either the left or the right side of your team. Just make sure that the Pokemon in the middle benefits from Clefairy's Helping Hand if you're using that. If you find that Clefairy's usefulness is going down, you're late in the game, or you just feel that Clefairy has one particularly good shot of shifting the match's momentum to your favor, this is when sending out Clefairy to the middle can be a good choice. This allows Clefairy to use Helping Hand on either partner and target any Pokemon with Snatch. Because this makes Clefairy a big target, using Protect to delay attempts to KO Clefairy is especially useful when in the middle. Team Options Pokemon that can set up with Substitute or boosting moves, such as Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Metagross, Mega Salamence, Whimsicott + Terrakion, and Heatran, are all great partners. Tailwind and Trick Room users such as Suicune and Jellicent greatly appreciate Follow Me's redirection support and Friend Guard's defensive boosts. Given that Clefairy has access to Snatch, Pokemon that strongly dislike Wide Guard and Quick Guard such as Sylveon, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Camerupt, Talonflame, and Hitmontop are great teammates. Fire-types, such as Heatran and Mega Charizard Y, can take out opposing Steel-types. Dragon-types such as Hydreigon and Steel-types such as Aegislash and Heatran naturally complement Clefairy. A rule of thumb when using Clefairy is to make sure that its partners are able to make up for Clefairy's extreme lack of offensive presence. An important aspect of Clefairy's Follow Me support is that it will redirect placement-ignoring moves such as Brave Bird, Dark Pulse, Aura Sphere, and Dragon Pulse. This makes Pokemon such as Hariyama, Aegislash, Mega Metagross, Bisharp, Mega Kangaskhan, Hydreigon, and Mega Salamence great partners, as Follow Me allows them to avoid these moves. As a special note, Clefairy especially loves Trick Room support, as it gives it the Speed to use Heal Pulse to support teammates, and slow spread attackers such as Sylveon and Mega Camerupt are especially deadly under Trick Room. Some good Trick Room users to consider include Cresselia, Meowstic-M (which can use Safeguard to save Clefairy from Dark Void), Gothitelle, and Jellicent. Another special teammate to consider is Mega Blastoise. Clefairy supports Mega Blastoise with the very valuable Heal Pulse to restore Water Spout's power (the move is especially deadly under Trick Room) and Clefairy can also remove Wide Guard with Snatch, while Mega Blastoise supports Clefairy by slamming Bisharp and Aegislash with its Mega Launcher-boosted Aura Sphere and Dark Pulse, respectively.

With maximum investment in Special Defense, Clefairy is nearly unparalleled in its ability to check special attackers long term. Magic Guard leaves Clefairy unaffected by the status and entry hazards that hamper Grumpig and Meganium, making it an ideal special wall on stall teams. Seismic Toss gives Clefairy a move to output consistent damage regardless of its attacking stats. Knock Off allows Clefairy to permanently cripple any non-Muk switch-in, cutting off healing from Pokemon reliant on Leftovers or softening walls reliant on Eviolite. Removing a boosting item as a Pokemon switches in can also nullify threats that need the item to break through a wall, such as Light Ball Pikachu and Choice Band Slaking. Soft-Boiled is necessary to keep Clefairy healthy, and it can be used alongside Wish for reliability. Thunder Wave allows Clefairy to hamper offensive Pokemon that could otherwise take advantage of it, like Mienfoo or Muk. Encore is a good option to prevent setup from any Pokemon lacking Taunt, allowing a teammate to switch in without risk. Wish provides support to the team, restoring the health of Pokemon without recovery like Muk, Grumpig, and Simisear. Stealth Rock and Heal Bell are two other potential options, but it isn't difficult to fit those moves on other Pokemon and utility moves like Encore and Wish are very powerful. This Clefairy set fits best on defensive and stall teams that have physically defensive support options, as they allow Clefairy to invest fully in Special Defense to take on hugely powerful special attackers like Nasty Plot Simisear, Calm Mind Grumpig, and Substitute Walrein. Solrock is an all-purpose physical wall that helps answer the Normal- and Poison-types that threaten to break stall teams. Clefairy safeguards Solrock against burns and poison while answering the Grass- and Water-types that switch into Solrock like Meganium, Frillish, and Staryu. Meganium is another excellent defensive staple that pairs quite well with Clefairy. Its incredible mixed bulk and typing let it check the few special sweepers that Clefairy cannot answer, namely Nasty Plot Mr. Mime and Raichu, while securing its team against the dangerous Kingler. In exchange, Clefairy's immunity to residual damage lets it absorb any Scald or Toxic aimed at Meganium, maximizing Meganium's bulk instead of forcing it to waste Aromatherapy PP to keep itself healthy. Wormadam-S is another fixture on stall teams that is especially bolstered by Clefairy's Wish support and ability to easily switch into Scald and Will-O-Wisp. It makes the most out of this support by using its great bulk and typing to check a huge range of threats, notably physical attackers it resists like Shelgon and Persian, as well as Grumpig and Mr. Mime, which can do huge damage to Clefairy with a boosted Focus Blast.

Despite its unimpressive stats and a typing barren of resistances, Clefairy nevertheless is an elite Pokemon in ZU, thanks in huge part to its incredible ability, Magic Guard. A complete immunity to entry hazards and other residual damage, as well as a defensive boost from Eviolite, lets Clefairy become an all-purpose wall, capable of spreading status, disrupting the opponent, and setting up hazards. Seismic Toss is a necessary attack to ensure Clefairy is never too passive, and a guaranteed 100 damage a turn is surprisingly difficult to handle in a tier with low HP totals and where many Pokemon can't afford Leftovers. Knock Off allows Clefairy to remove items from opposing Pokemon, crippling item-reliant staples like Meganium and Grumpig, while absolutely ruining other Eviolite walls like opposing Clefairy, Mienfoo, and Hippopotas. Thunder Wave is a solid alternative that pressures walls as well as allowing Clefairy and its team to outspeed opposing offensive Pokemon. Soft-Boiled is a required move for a wall like Clefairy, keeping it healthy over the course of a game. The last move is very flexible and allows Clefairy to support its team in a myriad of ways. Clefairy can fulfill the necessary function of a Stealth Rock setter for its team, which it is especially effective at thanks to how it dominates Staryu, the best Rapid Spin user in the tier. Encore is one of Clefairy's best tools against offense, preventing even Substitute users like Walrein or Muk from using Clefairy as setup fodder. It also allows Clefairy to generate momentum by forcing Pokemon to repeat utility moves like Stealth Rock or Recover. Heal Bell is another good option if a team cannot fit a different cleric like Aromatherapy Meganium. Wish is an alternative cleric option that keeps Clefairy's team healthy in a more direct way, which Clefairy can afford since it doesn't mind switching around in the face of hazards. The focus on physical bulk allows Clefairy to check the widest range of threats possible thanks to maximum investment and naturally good Special Defense, consistently withstanding even boosted attacks from threats like Swords Dance Kingler and Dragon Dance Shelgon. However, a more mixed spread of 168 Defense and 88 Special Defense with a Careful Nature allows Clefairy to more reliably check special attackers like Walrein while retaining sizeable physical bulk. Clefairy fits best on balance and defensive teams, which make good use of Clefairy's ability to blanket check a huge portion of the tier's attackers while offering a wide range of utility. Solrock is an excellent partner, as it can switch into and cripple the physical attackers that can break past Clefairy's bulk, namely Mienfoo and Muk. Solrock is also not reliant on its item to function and can afford to switch into a Knock Off aimed at Clefairy. In turn, Clefairy comfortably switches into the status moves that try to cripple Solrock such as Scald, Toxic, and Will-O-Wisp. Muk also has good synergy with Clefairy. Muk can switch into Mienfoo and various Knock Off and Trick users targeting Clefairy. In turn, Clefairy can easily switch into the status used to check Muk while supporting Muk with Thunder Wave or Knock Off. If Clefairy lacks Encore, it is liable to become setup fodder for sweepers that can ignore Thunder Wave, like Whiscash or Lum Berry users. Reliable revenge killers like Persian or Choice Scarf Grumpig allow Clefairy to support its team with moves like Stealth Rock and Wish without letting certain threats get out of hand.
