Bolt Beak is Dracozolt's most dangerous move, as its Base Power is doubled if Dracozolt attacks first, and is heavily enhanced with Hustle and a Choice Scarf. Dragon Claw is used to hit Dragon-type Pokemon and Pokemon that resist or are immune to Bolt Beak, such as Grass-type Pokemon and Seismitoad. Outrage can be used along with Dragon Claw, as it has more base power but locks Dracozolt. Earthquake can be used as an alternative move to deal with Pokemon like Excadrill outside of sand and Aegislash. Fire Fang helps with Steel-type Pokemon that resists Bolt Beak, such as Ferrothorn. Vikavolt is a fantastic teammate, as it can set up Sticky Web for Dracozolt. With Sticky Web up, Dracozolt can outspeed common Choice Scarf users such as Excadrill and Dracovish safely. Vikavolt also carries Grass-type coverage in Energy Ball, which is useful to break past common walls Dracozolt struggles against, such as Hippowdon and Seismitoad. The slow Volt Switch from Vikavolt also helps Dracozolt to come in safely to the field. Toxtricity forms an excellent offensive core with Dracozolt, as it can severely weaken the opposing team with a Choice Specs set and its Sludge Wave can handle Fairy- and Grass-types. Pincurchin provides a handful of utility options to Dracozolt. It can set up Electric Terrain, which boosts the power of Bolt Beak even further. It also learns Spikes and Toxic Spikes, which allows Dracozolt to break more consistently. Rotom-C is another decent partner for Dracozolt, as it can break through Ground-type Pokemon with Leaf Storm, provide momentum with Volt Switch, and pivot into Ground-type attacks with Levitate. Morpeko can form an offensive core with Dracozolt while providing utility options such as Parting Shot and Rapid Spin. Its access to Seed Bomb allows it to break past Ground-type Pokemon such as Gastrodon and Seismitoad, Parting Shot can be used to pivot while reducing offensive stats of opposing Pokemon, and Rapid Spin removes entry hazards to prevent getting Dracozolt crippled.

Due to its high Attack and Speed-doubling ability Sand Rush, Dracozolt is a strong wallbreaker on sand teams. Already able to outspeed nearly the entire metagame in sand, including Pokemon like Urshifu-R and Salamence, Dracozolt can outrun nearly any Pokemon with Dragon Dance while boosting its Attack. Dracozolt leverages this massive Speed to double the Base Power of Bolt Beak and tear through walls like Toxapex and Clefable. Dragon Darts hits Dragon-types like Latios and Salamence super effectively, and it hits Ground-types like Seismitoad. Fire Fang allows Dracozolt to threaten Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Excadrill. Substitute can be run instead of Fire Fang to protect Dracozolt from revenge killers and status, making it harder to switch around. If Substitute is run, Leftovers should replace Life Orb to allow Dracozolt more uses of Substitute. Dracozolt is appreciated by slower defensive teammates like Seismitoad and Skarmory for outspeeding and KOing opposing threats. Because Dracozolt relies on sand to perform effectively, a Sand Stream Pokemon like Tyranitar and Hippowdon is necessary. Spikes setters like Ferrothorn and Knock Off users like Tyranitar and Tornadus-T can wear down Ground-types, with Knock Off removing Heavy-Duty Boots to rack up Spikes damage, making them easier for Dracozolt to break through. Pokemon like Rillaboom and Rotom-Wash that can switch into Ground-type moves and offensively threaten Ground-types are also valuable, especially since Dracozolt's average defensive stats make it struggle to take hits. Dracozolt is also vulnerable to getting worn down by entry hazards on top of Life Orb recoil, so it appreciates entry hazard removers like Corviknight and Clefable. Excadrill is also a notably good partner for Dracozolt, as they both enjoy sand with Sand Rush and Excadrill can weaken opposing Ground-types for Dracozolt to finish off and vice versa.

Leftovers is preferred with Substitute, and Life Orb without it. Dracozolt likes receiving high Attack stats from gods like Ho-Oh and Calyrex-I. Ho-Oh stands out as a particularly good pick, as it can remove entry hazards, switch into Ground-types that threaten Dracozolt, and deal with Tangrowth, which walls Dracozolt. A sand setter in Tyranitar or Hippowdon is mandatory for Dracozolt to function; their Stealth Rock also aids Dracozolt in wearing down Tangrowth and Landorus-T. Fellow sand sweepers, most notably Excadrill, can create potent wallbreaking cores with Dracozolt, capable of quickly overwhelming many defensive Pokemon and tearing teams apart. Dracozolt also puts pressure on Skarmory and Corviknight, two Pokemon that Excadrill has a tough time getting past. Dracozolt is quite frail, so it appreciates pivots like Rotom-W bringing it in safely. Rotom-W also provides a switch-in to Rayquaza and Groudon, which can revenge kill Dracozolt. Similarly, Tangrowth deals with Kyogre, which poses a big threat to the sand core. Dracozolt is also quite susceptible to entry hazards because, when combined with Life Orb recoil, they accumulate a lot of chip damage very quickly. Therefore, it loves having hazard removers like the aforementioned Ho-Oh, Rotom-W, and Excadrill around.

Fire Blast hits the Grass-types that resist Bolt Beak, which includes Tangrowth, Ferrothorn, and Kartana. Draco Meteor hits Garchomp, Mega Latias, and Hydreigon, all of which can take Bolt Beak. The given EV spread coupled with a Naughty nature allow Dracozolt to outspeed Choice Scarf Landorus-T while sand is active and OHKO Tangrowth with Fire Blast after Stealth Rock damage. Due to Dracozolt's reliance on sand to pose a major threat, it requires sand support from Hippowdon or Tyranitar. Additonally, Dracozolt's ability to threaten Corviknight, Tangrowth, and Skarmory enables fellow Sand Rush sweeper Excadrill to wreak havoc. Dracozolt's susceptibilty to Ground-types such as Gliscor and Gastrodon mean that sturdy Ground-immune or -resistant partners are essential, which includes Corviknight, Mega Latias, and Tangrowth. Dracozolt is very susceptible to being chipped down by entry hazards on top of Substitute and Life Orb recoil. As such, entry hazard removal from teammates like Corviknight, Tapu Fini, and Excadrill are needed.
