Lunala is a strong, bulky special attacker that uses Shadow Shield to safely set up with Calm Mind. Due to its typing, bulk, and ability, Lunala has a positive matchup into Zamazenta-C and threatens to KO the Calyrex formes with Moongeist Beam. Lunala uses Moonblast to hit Dark-types like Chien-Pao and Urshifu-S that resist Moongeist Beam. Calm Mind gives Lunala more bulk to survive against special attackers like Calyrex-S and Miraidon and boosts its damage output, making it a threat. Leftovers provides recovery for Lunala to help it regain Shadow Shield. The defensive investment allows Lunala to live Dark Pulse from Chi-Yu, Shadow Ball from Choice Specs Flutter Mane, and Astral Barrage from Calyrex-S. The offensive investment allows Lunala to OHKO Calyrex-I after a Calm Mind, OHKO Gholdengo, and nearly OHKO bulky Flutter Mane, all with Moongeist Beam. The Speed EVs help outspeed bulky Gholdengo and paralyzed Choice Scarf Urshifu-R. Lunala uses Tera Fairy to remove its weaknesses to Dark- and Ghost-type attacks like Knock Off and Astral Barrage from Incineroar and Calyrex-S, respectively. Tera Fairy also boosts the damage from Moonblast, which helps threaten Dark-types. Dark- and Ghost-types such as Incineroar, Chi-Yu, and Calyrex-S threaten Lunala with their STAB moves like Knock Off, Snarl, and Astral Barrage, respectively. Amoonguss threatens Lunala with Spore while tanking its attacks. Miraidon threatens Lunala with immediate offensive pressure, preventing Lunala from setting up in front of it. Pelipper helps against Koraidon, Incineroar, and Chi-Yu with Drizzle, threatens to OHKO the latter two with Weather Ball, and helps against Amoonguss with Hurricane. Pelipper's access to Wide Guard protects Lunala from Calyrex-S's Astral Barrage and Chi-Yu's Snarl. Rillaboom is another great option for Lunala thanks to Grassy Terrain, which offers recovery and a way to override Miraidon's Electric Terrain, and Fake Out, allowing Lunala to set up with Calm Mind. Urshifu-R provides offensive pressure on a lot of Lunala's threats like Chi-Yu, Incineroar, Chien-Pao, Calyrex-S, Terapagos, and Ursaluna-B and synergizes well with Pelipper thanks to rain boosting Surging Strikes and Rillaboom because it handles Fire-types that threaten Rillaboom. Incineroar can use Taunt to shut down Amoonguss, has Intimidate to weaken physical threats such as Zacian-C and Chien-Pao, and has access to Fake Out, making it a great partner for Lunala to set up next to. Grimmsnarl helps Lunala survive against offensive threats such as Miraidon, Koraidon, and the Calyrex formes thanks to Prankster Light Screen and Reflect reducing the damage Lunala and its allies will be taking while providing speed control in Thunder Wave.

战术分析
Lunala is a strong bulky attacker with a great defensive ability in Shadow Shield, valuable support tools in Wide Guard and Trick Room, and the threatening Power Herb + Meteor Beam combination. Meteor Beam gives Lunala a strong setup option while having the extra benefit of doing major damage to Incineroar and other Pokemon weak to Rock. Lunala's access to Wide Guard paired with its Ghost typing gives it a favorable matchup into popular restricted Pokemon like Calyrex-I and Zamazenta-C by blocking their strong STAB moves in Body Press and Glacial Lance, respectively. Trick Room allows Lunala to set the pace of the match to its favor, with Moonblast being a solid alternative to cover for Dark-types when speed control isn't necessary. The EV spread allows Lunala to take Wicked Blow and Life Orb-boosted Astral Barrage from Urshifu-S and Calyrex-S with Shadow Shield active. Tera Fairy removes Lunala's Dark and Ghost weaknesses while being a strong defensive typing itself, giving Lunala the opportunity to safely stay in against would-be checks like Incineroar and Flutter Mane while having the extra benefit of boosting Moonblast. Lunala naturally struggles against Dark- and Normal-types like Incineroar and Terapagos, both taking negligible to no damage from Moongeist Beam once Power Herb is used up by Meteor Beam. Calyrex-S also forces Lunala to either use Wide Guard or Terastallize to avoid major damage. Urshifu-R is a phenomenal partner for Lunala, as it's able to cover Lunala's weaknesses and OHKO threatening Pokemon like Incineroar, Terapagos, and Calyrex-S; it is also protected by Lunala's Wide Guard from strong spread moves like Bleakwind Storm and Astral Barrage. Incineroar also forms a solid defensive backbone when paired with Urshifu-R as well as generating opportunities for Lunala to set up Trick Room with Fake Out. Amoonguss provides redirection support as well as Pollen Puff healing to keep Lunala at full HP for Shadow Shield; it also synergizes extremely well with Lunala's other common partners like Urshifu-R and Incineroar. Tailwind + Trick Room teams that run Lunala also benefit from strong Tailwind setters like Tornadus and Whimsicott, giving Lunala the flexibility to go for a fast game mode in specific matchups.

Set Details Calm Mind Lunala is able to easily set up thanks to Shadow Shield and can just as easily run away with the game. With its naturally good matchups into Zamazenta-C, Calyrex-I, and Iron Hands, Calm Mind Lunala finds itself as a strong piece in the metagame. Moonblast is an amazing coverage move for Lunala, letting it threaten Dark-types that resist Moongeist Beam like Grimmsnarl and Urshifu-S while also providing a way to hit the Ghost-immune Normal-types like Farigiraf. Leftovers grants Lunala passive recovery, letting it slowly patch up its Shadow Shield and making it even harder to take down. The HP EVs are optimized for Leftovers recovery. When combined with the given Defense EVs, Lunala has a very high chance to survive a Tera Water Surging Strikes from Mystic Water Urshifu-R in the rain as well as a Life Orb-boosted Sucker Punch from Chien-Pao. The Special Defense allows Lunala to survive a Life Orb-boosted Astral Barrage from Calyrex-S. An important thing to keep in mind is that all of these are taking Shadow Shield into account, which greatly boosts Lunala's survivability. The Special Attack investment lets Lunala cleanly OHKO non-Focus Sash Chien-Pao with Moonblast. Tera Fairy is a great Tera type for Lunala, letting it resist the STAB moves of Dark-types like Chi-Yu that formerly threatened it. On top of this, Lunala is able to shed its weakness to Ghost-type moves of threats like Flutter Mane, gain an immunity to Draco Meteor from the likes of Miraidon and Raging Bolt, and boost the power of Moonblast, notably OHKOing Miraidon after a Calm Mind. Teambuilding Since this set doesn't have the space to contain Wide Guard, Calyrex-S becomes a very tough matchup for Lunala, especially when it can use Encore to force Lunala to use Calm Mind over and over again. Lunala can also struggle to take hits from strong physical attackers like Koraidon and Calyrex-I due to its rather mediocre Defense stat. Without Tera Fairy, Dark-types like Urshifu, Incineroar, and Chi-Yu are all still very problematic for Lunala, hitting hard with Wicked Blow, Knock Off, and Dark Pulse, respectively, and not taking much from Lunala's Moongeist Beam in return. Snarl users like Raging Bolt and sometimes Miraidon are also annoying, preventing Lunala from gaining Special Attack boosts from Calm Mind. Miraidon is a good option to partner up with Calm Mind Lunala, nuking any Dark-types with Electro Drift or Dazzling Gleam or neutering strong special attackers like Calyrex-S and opposing Lunala with Snarl. Thanks to Choice Scarf, Miraidon can also easily outspeed opposing Miraidon and Raging Bolt and KO them with Draco Meteor. Koraidon is also able to deal with Dark-types but struggles a bit more into other Restricted Pokemon when Koraidon cannot move before its foes. Rillaboom is a great partner for Lunala, using Fake Out to disrupt foes to let Lunala freely set up and setting up Grassy Terrain, which not only overrides Miraidon's Terrain but also provides Lunala with even more passive recovery. Incineroar can also use Fake Out to support Lunala, with other options like Intimidate and Will-O-Wisp to better disrupt physical attackers. Other forms of damage reduction such as Grimmsnarl's dual screens and Volcarona's Struggle Bug can also help protect Lunala. The same goes for redirection support, with Pokemon like Ogerpon-C and the aforementioned Volcarona providing Lunala with a free turn to use Calm Mind. Incineroar highly benefits Lunala, as it threatens Calyrex-S with Knock Off, punishing it for trying to use Encore into Lunala, while resisting and mitigating the damage of many strong physical attackers, namely Calyrex-I, Chien-Pao, and Rillaboom. In return, Lunala is able to pressure the Fig Wide Guard support from the likes of Zamazenta-C is a great option to keep Lunala safe, notably blocking powerful moves such as Astral Barrage and Glacial Lance from Calyrex-S and Calyrex-I, respectively.

Set Details Lunala leverages its high bulk with Shadow Shield and wide movepool to support its team, mainly protecting it from spread attacks such as Astral Barrage and Glacial Lance with Wide Guard. Its high Special Attack and strong Ghost- and Fairy-type attacks allow it to weaken the opposing team over the course of a game, allowing its partners to clean up after it. Moonblast is a great option to hit Dark-types such as Incineroar and Normal-types like Ursaluna, as well as OHKO both Urshifu formes. Electric Seed allows Lunala to feel much less threatened by strong physical attacks such as Glacial Lance from Calyrex-I, Flare Blitz from Koraidon, and Headlong Rush from Ursaluna. This lets Lunala both set up and take down Trick Room or continue dealing damage. Lunala's Special Attack investment allows it to 3HKO many bulky Pokemon, such as Zamazenta-C, Calyrex-I after Terastallization, and Amoonguss with Moongeist Beam. Its bulk allows it to survive Tera Fire Flare Blitz from Ability Shield Koraidon under Neutralizing Gas and Timid Choice Specs Miraidon Electro Drift half of the time. Tera Fairy allows Lunala to resist Dark-type attacks such as Knock Off from Incineroar while being immune to Draco Meteor from Miraidon and removing Lunala's weakness to Ghost. It also allows Lunala to 3HKO Incineroar with Tera Fairy Moonblast. Teambuilding Lunala often struggles to stay safe without Terastallizing, mainly due to Dark- and Ghost-type attacks from Incineroar, Chi-Yu, Lunala, and Calyrex-S. As such, it is not hard to force it to Terastallize. It can also struggle against Urshifu-R, ignoring the Defense boost with Surging Strikes and only being affected by Shadow Shield on the first hit. After Shadow Shield is broken, it can be quickly knocked out with strong neutral attacks such as Astral Barrage from Calyrex-S after Lunala has Terastallized, Electro Drift from Miraidon, and Flare Blitz from Koraidon. Lunala can also become very passive when weakened by moves such as Spirit Break, Parting Shot, and Snarl from Grimmsnarl and Incineroar. Lunala requires Miraidon as a partner to activate its Electric Seed and appreciates bulky partners to protect itself, such as Incineroar. It works very well with Assault Vest Miraidon, as it allows both Restricted Pokemon on the team to soak up damage and use consistent strong attacks to chunk down foes, and Lunala can protect Miraidon from Glacial Lance with Wide Guard. Ursaluna is also a great partner for it, as it can be very difficult to deny Trick Room from Lunala, allowing Ursaluna to get on the field and devastate with Facade or Headlong Rush, while Lunala cleans up foes that Ursaluna may not be able to take out in one hit. It also appreciates Pokemon that can clean up foes that are chipped down by Lunala, such as Urshifu-R.

Set Details Equipped with versatile support options, a phenomenal defensive ability paired with great bulk, and solid offensive coverage, Lunala can be an extremely flexible option for many teams. Utilizing the combination of its Ghost typing and Wide Guard, Lunala can have very advantageous matchups into popular Restricted Pokemon like the Calyrex formes, Kyogre, Zamazenta-C, and Koraidon by blocking their strong STAB moves like Glacial Lance, Astral Barrage, and Water Spout with Wide Guard and being immune to Body Press and Close Combat thanks to its typing. Using Meteor Beam paired with Power Herb gives Lunala a strong but risky burst option versus Pokemon like Incineroar and Ho-Oh that also increases the damage of its Moongeist Beam. Trick Room serves as a consistent speed control option thanks to Shadow Shield, allowing Lunala and its team to have more favorable matchups into faster-paced team compositions. Expanding Force is another choice when paired with Indeedee-F to deal consistent STAB spread damage, with Moonblast being a solid alternative for extra coverage against opposing Dark-types such as Chien-Pao, Grimmsnarl, and Urshifu-S. The bulk investment allows Lunala to survive Throat Chop from Chien-Pao and Astral Barrage from Calyrex-S with Shadow Shield active. The Speed investment is enough to still function both inside and outside of Trick Room; for example, it outspeeds threats like Rillaboom and maximum Speed Incineroar when Trick Room is not active while getting the jump on Urshifu when Trick Room is active. The remaining EVs are dumped into Special Attack. Tera Water provides a strong neutral typing while also giving it key resistances to powerful Fire- and Ice-type moves such as Koraidon's Tera Fire-boosted Flare Blitz and Calyrex-I's Glacial Lance. Tera Fairy acts as a strong alternative option, turning Lunala's Dark weakness into a resistance and increasing the damage of its Moonblasts, allowing it to pick up OHKOs on Pokemon such as Miraidon and Urshifu-R at +1. Teambuilding Lunala mainly struggles against Dark- and Normal-type Pokemon like Terapagos, Ursaluna, and Incineroar that Lunala is unable to do reliable damage to if Meteor Beam has already been used. Grimmsnarl can also pose a major threat to Lunala, using Spirit Break and Light Screen to lower Lunala's already non-extraordinary damage while also potentially threatening huge damage if it has Foul Play. Farigiraf is especially an issue for Lunala, being able to tank a Meteor Beam and immune to Moongeist Beam. Farigiraf can also threaten good damage with Foul Play and deny Lunala of its Trick Room with a Trick Room of its own. Fighting-type Pokemon like Koraidon and Urshifu-R that also want a solid bulky partner serve as great teammates to cover for the Dark- and Normal-types that Lunala struggles with. Incineroar also works as a solid partner, providing Fake Out pressure to let Lunala set Trick Room or use Meteor Beam as well as Intimidate complementing Lunala's already superb bulk. Grimmsnarl also makes for a great partner for Lunala; setting up both Light Screen and Reflect to allow Lunala to stick on the field longer and fire off consistent damage with Moongeist Beam. Chi-Yu is another solid pair with Lunala, threatening opposing Ghost-types like Calyrex-S that Lunala could occasionally struggle against while having Beads of Ruin increasing Lunala's overall damage output. Indeedee-F also provides a lot of helpful tools for Lunala in the form of Follow Me, which redirects threatening attacks, and Psychic Terrain, which both blocks important priority moves in Trick Room like Sucker Punch and enables the use of Expanding Force.

战术分析
Meteor Beam Lunala is an essential wallbreaker on Psyspam teams that works in conjunction with other Pokemon such as Meteor Beam Deoxys-A and Ultra Necrozma to overwhelm shared counterplay such as Arceus-Dark and Yveltal. Despite appearing to be a good option as a standalone wallbreaker for balance and bulky offense, it should only be used on Psyspam teams; without the full support of a Psyspam team, Meteor Beam Lunala is outclassed by other wallbreakers such as Eternatus and specially offensive Yveltal, which are more consistent and require little support to be effective wallbreakers. These Pokemon, Eternatus in particular, are substantially more difficult to revenge kill due to their defensive typing and higher Speed. Meteor Beam is used to OHKO Pokemon that would otherwise wall Lunala such as Yveltal and Ho-Oh. The Special Attack boost provided by Meteor Beam makes it difficult to check Lunala defensively; for example, defensive Primal Groudon and utility Arceus formes are 2HKOed by +1 Moongeist Beam, while defensive Primal Kyogre and Ho-Oh are 2HKOed by +1 Psyshock in Psychic Terrain. Moongeist Beam and Psyshock provide strong neutral coverage. Moonblast rounds out Lunala's moveset and makes Dark-types such as Yveltal, Arceus-Dark, and Chien-Pao hesitate to swith in. Psyshock is run over Psychic to enable Lunala to deal with special walls such as Ho-Oh and more niche Pokemon such as Chansey that shrug off Moongeist Beam. Lunala frequently utilizes Tera Fairy for defensive purposes and to wallbreak for its teammates. Tera Fairy enables it to effortlessly remove one of the biggest threats to Psyspam teams, Choice Scarf Yveltal. Since Yveltal poses no threat to it after Tera, Lunala can opt to OHKO with either Meteor Beam and get a boost or with Tera Fairy Moonblast after Stealth Rock. Additionally, +1 Tera Fairy Moonblast OHKOes utility Arceus-Dark after Stealth Rock. Lunala is best used as a mid-game wallbreaker. It often uses Tera Fairy to remove Pokemon that can be a headache to Psyspam teams, such as Yveltal, Arceus-Dark, and Marshadow. Using Tera to remove these threats is a worthwhile expenditure, as this often enables teammates such as Deoxys-A and Ultra Necrozma to sweep. Tapu Lele is a mandatory teammate to set Psychic Terrain. Tapu Lele's Moonblast also relieves Lunala of some of the burden of handling Dark-types such as Yveltal and Arceus-Dark. Glimmora is commonly used as a dedicated lead, as it can consistently set and remove entry hazards to keep Shadow Shield intact. Additionally, Smeargle and Shuckle can be used instead of or alongside Glimmora to provide Sticky Web support to enable Lunala to outspeed Pokemon such as Marshadow, Eternatus, and Zacian-C. Deoxys-A and Ultra Necrozma round out an offensive core that is difficult for many teams to withstand. Deoxys-A provides speed control to help with Pokemon such as Chien-Pao and Zacian-C, and it also provides a second Meteor Beam that can be useful in case Lunala misses or when the opposing team has multiple targets such as Ho-Oh and Yveltal. Ultra Necrozma adds a physical attacker and a potent win condition after a Dragon Dance. Furthermore, it has some resilience to Ditto, as it needs to be heavily chipped to be revenge killed. Additionally, Ditto makes an excellent teammate itself, as it can revenge kill boosted threats such as Dragon Dance Arceus-Ground and Rock Polish Primal Groudon, which can easily slice through Psyspam teams if given an opportunity to boost.

战术分析
Choice Specs Lunala is an excellent wallbreaker on bulky offensive or balance teams. Its combination of Moongeist Beam and Moonblast allows it to OHKO or 2HKO a majority of the tier, with only a few exceptions such as Ho-Oh and defensive Primal Kyogre. Blissey and Chansey also cannot get 2HKOed, but they are more niche. It can muscle through defensive Pokemon, sponging neutral hits with ease because it possesses high natural bulk for an offensive Pokemon. With Tera Ghost, no viable Pokemon in the tier can safely switch into it. Moonblast is invaluable to Lunala, as it makes Dark-types a shaky switch-in. It 2HKOes defensive Yveltal and Arceus-Dark, and it has a high roll to OHKO specially offensive Yveltal. Moonblast can also be used as a midground option if the opposing team has a Dark-type in order to ease prediction. Unlike Psychic, Psyshock allows Lunala to chunk Pokemon with high Special Defense, such as defensive Primal Kyogre and Ho-Oh. Psyshock also OHKOes defensive Eternatus after Stealth Rock and a single layer of Spikes. Another big advantage to Psyshock is that it allows Lunala to save PP on its Moongeist Beam while still dealing meaningful damage. Trick allows Lunala to punish defensive Pokemon like Ho-Oh and defensive Yveltal that otherwise freely switch into it. This does come with the caveat of making it unable to 2HKO Pokemon like Arceus-Fairy, defensive Primal Groudon, defensive Necrozma-DM after Tera, and Zygarde after Tera once it loses its Choice Specs. It also misses out on OHKOing offensive Necrozma-DM, offensive Eternatus, and Giratina-O. Tera Ghost enhances Lunala's wallbreaking potential. After Tera, it is now able to consistently 2HKO Ho-Oh and specially offensive Yveltal. It also gains the ability to OHKO offensive Primal Groudon while also 3HKOing Arceus-Dark, making it unable to switch in. Tera Ghost also provides defensive merit to Lunala, as without the extra weakness to Ghost and Dark, it can now tank a Hex from special utility Giratina-O, a Foul Play from defensive Arceus-Dark, and a Poltergeist from Life Orb Marshadow without Shadow Shield. At full HP, Lunala is able to tank a Poltergeist from Tera Ghost Life Orb Marshadow, a Poltergeist from Choice Band Marshadow, a Dark Pulse or Knock Off from Tera Dark specially offensive Yveltal, and a Poltergeist from Giratina-O. Tera Fairy is also an option to consider over Tera Ghost. Terastallizing into a Fairy-type gives it an outstanding defensive typing, This also provides Lunala the capacity to take hits from Arceus-Dark, Giratina-O, Marshadow, and Yveltal, as well as allowing it to OHKO defensive Yveltal and Arceus-Dark with Moonblast. Tera Fairy should be considered on bulky offense teams that may lack the backbone to handle Lunala's threats. Lunala thrives against bulkier team structures. It is able to punish defensive Pokemon fairly reliably given the right prediction. Unfortunately, hyper offense teams have Pokemon that tend to overwhelm Lunala. Being Choice-locked allows Pokemon like Zacian-C, Arceus, and Ultra Necrozma a free setup opportunity, conceding momentum. If Shadow Shield remains intact, Lunala can often trade with some Pokemon such as offensive Primal Groudon, Ultra Necrozma, and Zacian-C. Otherwise, Lunala is reliant upon its teammates during these matchups. Lunala struggles against the tier's Ghost- and Dark-types, so having defensive Pokemon that are able to handle them means that Lunala's potential as a wallbreaker can be fully materialized. On a balance or bulky offense team structure, Coil Zygarde, defensive Arceus-Fairy, and defensive Arceus-Dark are three such examples that help assist in dealing with Pokemon that would otherwise capitalize on Lunala, such as Marshadow, Yveltal, physical utility Giratina-O, Arceus-Dark, and Ho-Oh. Pokemon that synergize well with Lunala offensively can punish foes that otherwise brush off Lunala's hits. Zacian-C used in conjunction with Lunala can create an excellent offensive core on bulkier teams. Lunala deals with Primal Groudon, Dondozo, Necrozma-DM, and Alomomola, which otherwise check Zacian-C. Zacian-C supports it in return by dealing with Marshadow and Yveltal. Choice Band Rayquaza can also be considered as an offensive partner due to its ability to 2HKO Ho-Oh and defensive Primal Kyogre.

Roost provides Lunala with reliable recovery and, in tandem with Heavy-Duty Boots, lets it consistently maintain Shadow Shield, even in the face of entry hazards. The choice of status move comes down to teammate choice. Will-O-Wisp covers more threats, allowing Lunala to check Zekrom and cripple Groudon and Necrozma-DM for the rest of the game. Thunder Wave stops Mewtwo lacking the rare Shadow Ball, and it is useful to take advantage of common switch-ins such as Yveltal and Eternatus. It notably makes Lunala much less reliable at checking Zekrom, though. Ice Beam does massive damage to Zygarde and Rayquaza, and it does great damage to Groudon and Zekrom. Hex is generally the preferred last move, as it makes Lunala less passive. Even without status, Hex can OHKO Calyrex-S and do good damage to Marshadow. With status, it allows Lunala to decently damage Necrozma-DM and Ferrothorn. Roar is useful for Zygarde, which can otherwise pressure Lunala through Substitute and status. It can also be useful in an emergency to stop a runaway sweep from Lum Berry Necrozma-DM, Geomancy Xerneas, or another sweeper with several boosts. Defog is a decent option for the Sticky Web matchup thanks to Heavy-Duty Boots and Lunala's good Speed. It is otherwise not recommended, as most entry hazard setters can cripple Lunala through Knock Off or status. The given EV spread outspeeds all base 95 Speed Pokemon such as Rayquaza and Galarian Darmanitan. Teammate choice depends on which moves Lunala has. Will-O-Wisp provides more security against Zekrom and Groudon, which is appreciated by teammates like Zygarde. Groudon makes for a great teammate for Thunder Wave sets, as it can check Zekrom, which Thunder Wave Lunala can't do well, and Lunala can paralyze Yveltal on the switch in return. Defensive Xerneas, Buzzwole, Zarude are also good partners, as they can take pressure off Lunala to stay healthy enough to check Zekrom and Zygarde. Yveltal is nigh-mandatory to switch into Calyrex-S. Offensive Yveltal in particular likes Defog Lunala, which prevents it from taking Stealth Rock damage. Eternatus, Zygarde, Xerneas, and Buzzwole can check Marshadow, and the former three can check Hone Claws Yveltal. Hex sets appreciate any teammate that can spread status, such as Thunder Wave Necrozma-DM. Ferrothorn can check Zekrom reliably and provide Spikes support, so it works great with any Thunder Wave or Roar set. Cleric support from Pokemon like Calyrex-S is much appreciated if available, as any form of status can ruin Lunala's day.

Lunala naturally attracts switch-ins such as Yveltal and Ho-Oh, which makes an offensive Meteor Beam set a viable option. With great base Special Attack and a strong Moongeist Beam, Lunala can be a force to be reckoned with, especially at +1. Unfortunately, this set very much relies on the surprise factor of Meteor Beam, as it can easily be forced out by Calyrex-S, Marshadow, or Mystical Fire Eternatus, which severely limits its ability to sweep. A perk of this set is that, with Roost and Shadow Shield, Lunala can still provide useful defensive utility, even without significant HP investment. Ice Beam is Lunala's best coverage option, hitting Yveltal, Eternatus, and Zygarde hard. The combination of Ice Beam and Roost can let Lunala feign a defensive set, although a smart player will be able to tell the difference by using a damage calculator when Lunala deals or takes damage. This set works best when it can appear to be regular defensive Lunala at Team Preview. Due to this, it's not recommended on hyper offense builds such as Sticky Web teams, as that would ruin the surprise. This Lunala set can significantly weaken or outright KO Ho-Oh and Yveltal, which makes Calyrex-S an obvious option. Other options include Marshadow without Rock Tomb, Buzzwole, Urshifu-S, and Mewtwo. While Ghost-types work well together offensively, keep in mind that defensively they multiply weaknesses to opposing Ghost- and Dark-types. Yveltal and Ho-Oh help this matchup. Both Pokemon also offer Defog, which is mandatory for this set; Lunala being affected by entry hazards will instantly reveal that it has an offensive set.

Lunala sports good bulk, a great ability, and a neutrality to most attacks, letting it blanket check numerous threats such as Rayquaza and Kyurem-W. Roost helps keep Shadow Shield intact, with Lunala's Speed meaning it can often go before these wallbreakers should they stay in. Depending on team choices, Lunala can either opt for Will-O-Wisp or Thunder Wave. The former immediately deters dangerous physical attackers such as Necrozma-DM and Kyurem-B, while the latter facilitates slower teammates like Obstagoon, Urshifu-R, and its Speed receivers. Hex's higher PP and synergy with Lunala's status spreading are usually preferred over Moongeist Beam's initial power. Ice Beam OHKOes Rayquaza and Landorus-T, while Toxic annoys Gastrodon, Tangrowth, and specially defensive Tyranitar, which don't mind its other options. Defog is another alternative for role compression. Heavy-Duty Boots ensures entry hazards don't break Shadow Shield. With well-rounded stats, Lunala lends itself to bulky offense and balance teams. Common defensive Pokemon in Rotom-W, Tangrowth, Clefable, and Landorus-T all benefit from Lunala's defensive stat donations, and they bolster Lunala's Hex with their status moves. Tapu Koko, Tapu Fini, Celesteela, and Galarian Moltres make great use of its impressive Special Attack; its Speed donation, while not stellar, is enough to outpace Rayquaza and Kyurem-W, thus allowing slower teammates like Galarian Slowking and Dhelmise to pressure foes more easily. Dark-type teammates are necessary to cover for Lunala's weaknesses. Galarian Moltres and Bisharp check Dhelmise and benefit from Lunala spreading paralysis to make up for their middling Speed; defensive ones such as Mandibuzz and Alolan Persian also provide pivoting to make up for Lunala's predictability and momentum drain. Skarmory and Ferrothorn cover faster physical threats that can 2HKO it through Shadow Shield like Urshifu-R and Weavile. Lunala's middling Speed can be problematic against fast teams, making Choice Scarf Urshifu-R and Kartana great partners. Since Lunala can be overwhelmed due to its reliance on Roost and fear of chip damage, Clefable, Gastrodon, and Corviknight alleviate some pressure by dealing with foes such as Tyranitar, Zeraora, and Kartana. They can also absorb Knock Off and status effects that Lunala wants to avoid.

Fur Coat Lunala is an excellent wall that can check the majority of physical attackers in the tier, with its typing leaving very few weaknesses and Fur Coat allowing it to easily withstand powerful attacks like V-create and Glacial Lance. Nuzzle provides speed control that can threaten out powerful attackers like Eternatus and Zacian, while Glare still paralyses Groudon and Zygarde-C. Hex is a strong STAB attack that is unresisted by most of the tier and has good synergy with Nuzzle's paralysis to clean up weakened teams. Core Enforcer negates Regigigas's Poison Heal and forces it to switch out, which, when combined with Lunala's immunity to Normal allows it to reliably switch in and scare out Regigigas lacking Wicked Blow. Entrainment improves the matchup against Xerneas and makes Lunala harder to pivot around. Recover provides a reliable recovery option which keeps Lunala in good enough condition to check threats over longer games. Lunala's glaring weakness to Dark-type attacks, most commonly Wicked Blow and Knock Off from Regigigas, makes Zygarde-C a good teammate, as the pair has the physical bulk to withstand threats carrying coverage for the other. Lunala's speed control and ability to scare out offensive threats can be exploited by slower wallbreakers such as Kyurem-B and Groudon. Lunala can self-Imposter-proof to an extent, as a boosted Hex will always 2HKO Eviolite Imposter Chansey, but Ground-type teammates can help negate the Imposter user's Nuzzle to prevent boosting Hex's power.

Lunala's typing and great Special Attack allow it to fully exploit No Retreat - Psychic offers an excellent STAB Stored Power and Ghost makes Lunala immune to trapping, allowing it to safely switch out of Spectral Thiefs and attempt multiple sweeps. With Simple, No Retreat not only offers a massive bulk increase, but also raises Stored Power's Base Power to 220, which when combined with a +2 Special Attack boost is sufficient to OHKO the majority of the metagame. Final Gambit is used alongside Lunala's high HP to heavily damage Prankster users like Groudon and Ho-Oh who look to remove Lunala's boosts. 0 Special Defense EVs, 5 Special Defense IVs, and a Rash nature allow Lunala to always OHKO Imposter Eviolite Chansey with Astral Barrage, whereas using maximum Special Defense allows set up in front of most special attackers. Sweepers like Shift Gear Kyurem-B and Simple Eternatus synergize well with Lunala, as they can exploit Prankster users being absent or heavily injured due to Final Gambit, giving them an easier time cleaning up a team. Pixilate Xerneas makes a good teammate, as it can pressure foes that Lunala is unable to break past such as Yveltal and Ice Scales users like Zamazenta-C. Yveltal also partners well with Lunala as it can safely Imposter-proof with Spectral Thief and has STAB Knock Off to remove Assault Vest, which allows certain targets like Kyogre and Melmetal to survive boosted Stored Power and Astral Barrage, respectively.

Lunala is a niche defensive Pokemon in the metagame thanks to its good bulk, great ability in Shadow Shield, and rare Psychic / Ghost typing, which allow it to check scary threats like Zacian-C lacking Assurance or Crunch, non-Choice Band Mega Rayquaza, and Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM, Ultra Necrozma, and Zekrom while being immune to trapping from Shadow Tag users such as Mega Gengar and Gothitelle. Moongeist Beam is Lunala's primary attacking move, hitting Necrozma-DM, Ultra Necrozma, and Mewtwo super effectively and having good overall neutral coverage. Hex is an alternative that has more PP and deals more damage to statused foes. Will-O-Wisp allows Lunala to cripple physical attackers like Zacian-C, Necrozma-DM, and Mega Rayquaza. Toxic allows Lunala to punish Ho-Oh, Yveltal, and Primal Kyogre, which could otherwise switch into it freely. Alternatively, Defog is an option to remove entry hazards, given Lunala's passable matchup against common setters like Primal Groudon and Necrozma-DM. Roar allows Lunala to phaze setup sweepers like Xerneas in a pinch if they haven't Dynamaxed and potentially rack up damage from entry hazards. Roost is essential to maintain Lunala's longevity and reactivate Shadow Shield. Maximum HP and Defense investment with a Bold nature gives Lunala the best chance of stalling Zacian-C out of Behemoth Blade PP by switching in and repeatedly using Roost, assuming said foe lacks Assurance and Crunch and is running a Jolly nature. Heavy-Duty Boots negates entry hazard damage, allowing Shadow Shield to stay intact without mandating additional Defog support from teammates. Lunala is very vulnerable to status from the likes of Ho-Oh and support Arceus formes, so status absorbers such as defensive Zygarde-C, Eternatus, and Refresh Arceus forms are good teammates. Yveltal is also very troublesome for Lunala, so Ho-Oh, Xerneas, Tyranitar, and Chansey are good partners, since they can pivot into it or Dynamax in order to revenge kill it; Chansey can also provide cleric support. Knock Off absorbers such as Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre and, if Lunala is running Defog, checks to Xerneas such as Necrozma-DM are also very helpful teammates. Pokemon that are vulnerable to Zacian-C such as Eternatus and Mega Rayquaza really appreciate Lunala's ability to soft check it. Backup checks to Zacian-C like Necrozma-DM, Primal Groudon, and Ditto are suggested, as it can potentially break past Lunala with Assurance, Crunch, an Adamant nature, or high damage rolls.

Lunala is a potent wallbreaker in AG due to a good Special Attack stat, a strong STAB move, and multiple coverage options to severely dent several Pokemon that may try to pivot into it. Additionally, its typing and a phenomenal ability in Shadow Shield can allow it to be an emergency check to the likes of Dragon Dance Ultra Necrozma, Necrozma-DM, Mega Rayquaza, and Zygarde-C. Moongeist Beam has few resistances and therefore hits most Pokemon for a 2HKO, including most support Arceus formes. Focus Blast perfectly complements Moongeist Beam by severely crippling, if not outright OHKOing, Dark- and Normal-types such as Tyranitar, Arceus-Dark, and Arceus while also hitting Ferrothorn harder than Moongeist Beam. Ice Beam KOs Yveltal after Stealth Rock damage, OHKOs an untransformed Zygarde-C, and revenge kills a boosted Mega Rayquaza in a pinch after a Dragon Ascent Special Defense drop, if Shadow Shield is intact. Alternatively, Moonblast still hits the same benchmarks against Yveltal and Mega Rayquaza while also providing Lunala with a more reliable way to hit Dark-types than Focus Blast. Trick is the preferred option in the last moveslot, as it cripples Ho-Oh and Chansey beyond repair, one of which will often be the main Lunala counterplay on the foe's team. However, Trick is completely negated by common Pokemon such as Arceus formes, Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Zacian-C, and Mega Evolutions bar Mega Rayquaza, so it should be used with care. Alternatively, Psyshock hits specially defensive Ho-Oh and Chansey harder than anything else. It also delivers a more reliable hit against Normal-types than Focus Blast and picks off a weakened boosted Xerneas, provided that Shadow Shield is intact. On the other hand, Thunder may be used in order to OHKO Yveltal on the switch in and hit physically defensive Ho-Oh, Arceus-Water, and Primal Kyogre harder than anything else. A Modest nature allows Lunala to always 2HKO support Arceus formes, 2HKO Ferrothorn with Moongeist Beam after Stealth Rock damage, and OHKO Yveltal with Thunder, Tyranitar with Focus Blast, and Necrozma-DM with Moongeist Beam after Stealth Rock. A Timid nature may be used in order to outspeed neutral-natured Yveltal and Xerneas, as well as Timid Kyogre. However, Timid Lunala misses out on the aforementioned benchmarks. Lunala fits best on bulky offense teams that enjoy its wallbreaking prowess as well as its ability to situationally revenge kill a plethora of setup sweepers in a pinch, such as Xerneas, Dragon Dance Mega Rayquaza, Necrozma-DM, Ultra Necrozma, various Swords Dance Arceus forms, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Zekrom. However, it can only perform such revenge kills if its Shadow Shield is unbroken, which makes Defog support from Ho-Oh or a support Arceus forme mandatory. Stealth Rock support from the likes of Necrozma-DM and Primal Groudon is handy as well, ensuring an OHKO on the likes of Yveltal and Mega Tyranitar and helping Timid Lunala hit important benchmarks that it would otherwise miss. As Lunala is a fairly prediction-reliant wallbreaker, it may situationally give dangerous Pokemon such as Yveltal, Zacian-C, and Primal Kyogre a free switch in, depending on the move it locks itself into. Thus, pairing it with a strong defensive backbone that can check these threats via the likes of Ho-Oh, Necrozma-DM, and Primal Groudon is a sensible choice. Sturdy checks to Yveltal such as Chansey, Tyranitar, Arceus-Dark, Arceus-Fairy, and Diancie are particularly important because Yveltal can come in rather freely on Lunala. However, be careful with Tyranitar, as its Sand Stream can waste Shadow Shield. Strong late-game cleaners that can take advantage of Lunala's wallbreaking prowess, such as Zacian-C, Yveltal, and Xerneas, are recommended teammates as well.

Moves Calm Mind boosts Lunala's Special Attack and Special Defense, giving it a needed boost in damage output to take full advantage of its great coverage options and making it difficult to revenge kill with faster foes like support Arceus formes and Choice Scarf Xerneas. A boost in Special Defense also gives Lunala a chance to take on Yveltal, as after a Calm Mind boost, Yveltal's Dark Pulse fails to OHKO Lunala with Shadow Shield intact. Moongeist Beam has neutral coverage against many common Pokemon in the tier and is strong enough to 2HKO many offensive foes. With Calm Mind and Lunalium Z, Lunala can threaten to OHKO most neutral targets with Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom. Note that Moongeist Beam and Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom can bypass abilities like Multiscale. Psyshock is a secondary STAB move that has significantly higher damage output against specially bulky foes like Primal Kyogre and enables Lunala to break past Chansey and Blissey. Focus Blast provides Lunala with perfect offensive coverage along with Moongeist Beam, enabling it to hit Dark-types super effectively as well as deal with Steel-types better without relying on boosted Moongeist Beam or Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom. Moonblast compresses coverage against Dark- and Dragon-types when Lunala is running Psyshock, but it has less damage output against Arceus-Dark than Focus Blast. Moonblast also doesn't take out Zygarde as fast as Ice Beam does. Ice Beam allows Lunala to weaken Yveltal on the switch and, more importantly, offensively check Dragon-types like Zygarde, Mega Salamence, and Rayquaza without using its Z-Move. Ice Beam generally has better coverage against offensive teams, but many Pokemon that are taken out by Ice Beam are already vulnerable to Moongeist Beam. Roost can be considered for Lunala to fully take advantage of support Arceus formes lacking status and pose a greater threat to slower teams, but it is hard to justify over other attacks. Set Details 12 Special Defense EVs allow Lunala to survive mixed Rock Polish Primal Groudon's Fire Blast after Stealth Rock damage. The rest of the EVs are invested in Special Attack and Speed to make Lunala hit as hard as possible and outspeed as many foes as possible. Though a Modest nature gives Lunala extra power and significantly improves the chance to OHKO Arceus-Dark with +1 Focus Blast after Stealth Rock damage, a Timid nature mostly outweighs this due to it enabling Lunala to outspeed base 90 Speed Pokemon like Primal Groudon. Lunalium Z enables the use of Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom with Moongeist Beam. The sheer power of the Z-Move is one of the most important aspects of this set, as when boosted it becomes so powerful that very few neutral targets can escape the OHKO and even resisted targets like Yveltal can be overpowered with Stealth Rock up. Though it is a much less effective option, if a Z-Move user already exists on the team, Spooky Plate can be considered to improve Moongeist Beam's damage output, guaranteeing a 2HKO on offensive Primal Groudon and, after Stealth Rock, an OHKO on Giratina-O. Spooky Plate-boosted Moongeist Beam also becomes powerful enough to force recovery moves from support Arceus formes. Shadow Shield halves the incoming damage when Lunala's HP is full, making it significantly harder to take down. Note that unlike Multiscale, moves like Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam and users of abilities like Mold Breaker, Teravolt, and Turboblaze cannot ignore Shadow Shield. Usage Tips It is generally recommended for Lunala to wallbreak early-game to weaken defensive cores. Weakening foes like support Arceus formes early is going to be beneficial for teammates that will attempt to clean up late-game, but making aggressive plays early on also reduces the odds that Lunala will have to enter the field when entry hazards are up and lose its Shadow Shield. Though Lunala might lack the firepower to immediately threaten bulkier foes, it is capable of 2HKOing most Pokemon found on offensive teams with the appropriate moves. Lunala can also threaten many neutral targets with an unboosted Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom. Avoid solely focusing on setting up Calm Mind and ensure that Lunala nets as much damage as possible before going down. This can pressure opponents into excessively focusing on breaking Lunala's Shadow Shield. As Lunala is quite hard to take on for most offensive Pokemon in a one-on-one situation due to its offensive coverage and ability to score a potential OHKO with Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom, Lunala is difficult to take down even after Stealth Rock damage, so the opponent will likely prioritize setting up Stealth Rock. This means Lunala can switch into possible Stealth Rock users like Primal Groudon and Lunala's teammates can potentially take advantage of the turn the opponent uses to set entry hazards. Leading against suicide leads can also be a good idea, as Lunala will often force opponents to choose between breaking Lunala's Shadow Shield or setting entry hazards that they may need for other Pokemon. Avoid setting up recklessly without fully scouting a foe's moveset. Though it is extremely rare for Lunala's common setup targets to have Dark- and Ghost-type coverage moves, there are other factors to be wary about. Support Arceus formes may have Thunder Wave, which makes Lunala vulnerable to slower foes that it can otherwise overpower without worrying about retaliation. Though Lunala can threaten most Primal Groudon variants, note that Primal Groudon with Rock Tomb can remove Lunala's Speed advantage and break Shadow Shield at the same time and throw a heavy blow before going down, weakening Lunala to the point where it can be picked off by weaker attacks like Arceus formes' Judgment or other slower foes that can outspeed Lunala after Rock Tomb. Lunala with Shadow Shield intact can survive a hit from setup sweepers like Rock Polish Primal Groudon and Mega Salamence and retaliate. With Lunalium Z available, it can OHKO most of the setup sweepers that it aims to hold back. Team Options Fairy-type teammates are recommended, as Lunala needs protection against Dark-types in situations where it is forced out against them. Xerneas and Arceus-Fairy are primary options to consider due to their ability to switch into Dark-types like Yveltal and Arceus-Dark as well as Marshadow, which is one of the most threatening offensive checks to Lunala. Choice Scarf variants of Xerneas can take on faster foes that Lunala cannot effectively combat, while Arceus-Fairy can viably run Stealth Rock to pressure offensive Ho-Oh and allow Lunala's +1 Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom to meet various benchmarks. Magearna is another Fairy-type that checks Yveltal and can bring Lunala safely into the field using Volt Switch. Lunala desires entry hazards to OHKO foes like Ho-Oh after Calm Mind boosts. Offensive teams can use various leads, including Cloyster, which can provide Rapid Spin support, and Smeargle, which can set up Sticky Web and remove Arceus formes' Speed advantage against Lunala. Various Stealth Rock users like Primal Groudon and Arceus-Ground that can threaten a good portion of the tier can be employed to keep offensive pressure, giving Lunala more room to prey on teams that defensively react to its teammates. There are also instances where keeping Lunala's Shadow Shield intact should be prioritized over setting entry hazards for its breakthrough. Defog users like Mega Salamence and Arceus-Ground can make managing entry hazards more flexible. Priority move users like Rayquaza and Extreme Killer Arceus can improve Lunala's matchup against faster offensive foes and provide its team with extra security against faster foes when Lunala focuses on wallbreaking instead of preserving its Shadow Shield. Yveltal's ability to threaten Mega Gengar and Ultra Necrozma with Sucker Punch, in addition to its resistance to Dark and Ghost, makes it a noteworthy offensive partner as well. Offensive partners like Necrozma-DM and Mega Salamence can benefit from Lunala's ability to massively pressure Steel-types and other problematic foes like Primal Groudon. Mega Salamence's Defog support and ability to pivot into Ho-Oh can be handy for Lunala.

Moves Moongeist Beam does a good amount of damage to neutral foes, 2HKOing Necrozma-DM and OHKOing Ultra Necrozma without investment. Roost gives Lunala a reliable form of recovery, enabling it to stay healthy and reactivate Shadow Shield when fully restoring its health. Lunala's immunity to Shadow Tag and ability to survive an attack with Shadow Shield intact makes it an appropriate Defog user on defensive teams. While Lunala's matchup against bulky entry hazard setters isn't favorable, its conventional teammates like Ho-Oh and Giratina can limit their usefulness, while Lunala can deal with dedicated leads like Deoxys-S better. Toxic prevents Ho-Oh and support Arceus formes from effortlessly walling this set for free while allowing Lunala to potentially stall foes that cannot 2HKO it by continually reactivating its Shadow Shield with Roost. Will-O-Wisp can be used instead to cripple Pursuit trappers and make Lunala a more reliable check to physically-oriented Primal Kyogre. Ice Beam allows Lunala to offensively check Zygarde, but it has little reason to be used over other moves. Set Details 200 Speed EVs with a Timid nature allow Lunala to outspeed base 90 Speed Pokemon, enabling it to move faster than foes it can blanket check like Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre. The rest of the EVs allow Lunala to survive Necrozma-DM's +2 Searing Sunraze Smash and Modest Primal Kyogre's +1 Water Spout with Shadow Shield intact. Leftovers provides Lunala with passive recovery. Shadow Shield allows Lunala to function as a wall despite its lack of useful resistances, as it has good natural bulk and can survive many boosted hits with Shadow Shield halving incoming damage when Lunala's HP is full. Usage Tips The bulkier version of Lunala is usually employed in defensive teams that desire a blanket check to dangerous Pokemon like Primal Groudon, Necrozma-DM, and physical Primal Kyogre. While it can take them on better with investment in bulk, it will be reliant on prior damage or Toxic stalling to keep them in control due to the lack of offensive investment and Lunalium Z. Despite the reduced offensive presence, switching into this set can actually be harder as Toxic serves as one of the ways to punish bulky foes like support Arceus formes. Offensive entry hazard setters like Swords Dance + Stealth Rock Primal Groudon will also struggle to combat Lunala unless its Shadow Shield is already broken, as many of them are slower than Lunala and have to remain healthy to survive Lunala's attacks. Defensive teams that this Lunala set finds itself on will typically rely on residual damage to wear foes down, using entry hazards or status. Many Steel-types can easily switch into Toxic from Lunala and its teammates, and Xerneas has access to Aromatherapy. This may make it quite difficult to wear down foes by solely relying on status. For this reason, Lunala's team may need countermeasures against passive foes, such as Ho-Oh, and assistance from entry hazards. Note that entry hazards won't be the most reliable solution to outlast the opposing team, as setting them will cause Lunala's teammates to often run into situations where they will have to decide between trading entry hazards to wear down opposing teams faster or entirely avoiding entry hazards until a threat that requires a healthy Lunala to be kept in control goes down. There is also a risk that Lunala will be hit by Toxic after it directly switches into opposing Pokemon or removes entry hazards with Defog. Trading Toxic with entry hazard setters like Primal Groudon can be an acceptable strategy if Lunala's team has strong cleric support, but it is better to avoid status in general. Spending multiple turns to cure Lunala of status and ensuring Lunala stays at full health without being statused to check threats will end up taking away momentum. Against offensive teams, leading with Lunala is generally a sensible idea, as dedicated leads like Cloyster and Excadrill will have to choose between setting entry hazards, which Lunala can easily remove with Defog, or breaking Lunala's Shadow Shield before they get 2HKOed by Moongeist Beam. Though leading with Mega Sableye can invalidate other leads like Smeargle, Deoxys-S and Excadrill can bypass Magic Bounce with Skill Swap and Mold Breaker, respectively, and Cloyster can overpower Mega Sableye with correct predictions. Thus, Lunala is a better option of entry hazard control against them. Pursuit trappers are problematic to this set as well, as this variant of Lunala struggles to punish Dark-types apart from poisoning them with Toxic. Alolan Muk can limit Lunala's effectiveness, Tyranitar can easily dispose of Lunala lacking Will-O-Wisp, and Marshadow carrying Pursuit can potentially eliminate Lunala. Make sure to exercise caution against these threats. Team Options Defensive Lunala's effectiveness depends on the availability of Shadow Shield under offensive pressure, so entry hazard removal is very important. Ho-Oh, Mega Sableye, and Lunala together can deal with most entry hazard setters in the tier. Mega Sableye can discourage the use of Toxic and shut down passive foes like Ferrothorn, Ho-Oh can handle certain Primal Groudon variants with Stealth Rock, and Lunala can effectively use Defog even under offensive pressure. Lunala will mostly be reliant on Magearna when Dark-types switch in and proceed to threaten it. Magearna's access to Heal Bell is also helpful for Lunala, as a number of foes that Lunala takes on are likely going to have Toxic. Blissey is another viable cleric that can fit with Lunala. It can pivot into many support Arceus formes that attempt to status Lunala and check many special attackers that Lunala cannot actively take on while preserving its Shadow Shield. Arceus-Dark is an acceptable check to Yveltal and Ghost-types, and it can viably run Stealth Rock to apply pressure to the opposing team. Variants with Ice Beam can check foes like Ultra Necrozma and Zygarde, which Lunala will have a shakier matchup against should it lack Shadow Shield. Arceus-Fairy is a considerable alternative that can fulfill the same role apart from handling Ghost-types, instead checking Marshadow and posing a greater threat to Yveltal, but note that it can be a hindrance for Lunala's team, which typically employs Pokemon that are not vulnerable to Shadow Tag trapping. Bulkier walls like Zygarde and Lugia can be considered to handle Swords Dance Arceus formes and offensive Primal Groudon variants. Note that Zygarde counters Ho-Oh and makes faster foes more manageable with Glare. Lunala will be reliant on the target being frail or weakened enough to fall to Moongeist Beam when attempting to revenge kill a foe. Pokemon like Necrozma-DM and Primal Kyogre that can offensively check setup sweepers like Xerneas and Primal Groudon can be considered to have extra layers of security against them while reducing the team's overall passivity.

战术分析
Moves Moongeist Beam is capable of doing enough damage to revenge kill slower threats and pressuring many neutral targets. Focus Blast provides Lunala with a coverage move to hit Dark- and Normal-types. With Choice Scarf, Lunala can effectively revenge kill many threats like Zygarde, Mega Salamence, and a weakened Swords Dance Arceus-Ground with Ice Beam. Psyshock prevents Lunala from being completely walled by Blissey and 2HKOes Toxapex and offensive Primal Kyogre after Stealth Rock. Trick can be used to permanently cripple a persistent switch-in like defensive Ho-Oh and Chansey and is helpful in matchups against defensive teams where Lunala's Speed advantage over other Pokemon isn't needed. Thunder can be considered due to its higher damage output against Yveltal, Ho-Oh, Primal Kyogre, Arceus-Water, and Celesteela, though it is not the best move to be locked into and is unreliable due to its inaccuracy. Defog can remove entry hazards in a pinch, and Lunala's ability to force switches can make this handy utility on offensive teams, but it is hard to fit. Set Details Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment is the most ideal EV spread for Lunala holding Choice Scarf so damage output is maximized and Lunala outspeeds as many foes as possible. A Modest nature is typically preferred due to it improving the odds for Lunala to 2HKO support Arceus formes with Stealth Rock support, although a Timid nature is also possible to let Lunala fully take advantage of Choice Scarf. This also enables Lunala to outspeed Modest Choice Scarf Xerneas and Yveltal. Choice Scarf increases Lunala's Speed, significantly improving Lunala's performance against offense when combined with its impressive coverage options. Shadow Shield further amplifies Lunala's effectiveness as a revenge killer by allowing Lunala to survive many strong hits with the ability intact. Usage Tips Lunala performs significantly better as a revenge killer with Choice Scarf, as it will not be overly reliant on the availability of Shadow Shield and will outspeed primary targets like Ultra Necrozma, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Zygarde at +1. As long as Shadow Shield is intact, Marshadow can be revenge killed as well. Opposing setup sweepers might be caught off guard with a false sense of security that Lunala lacking Shadow Shield will not survive their attack. This can lead an opponent to meaninglessly let one of their Pokemon go down if they don't expect Lunala to be holding a Choice Scarf. This can be seen against threats like boosted Ultra Necrozma and Rayquaza, which can OHKO Lunala lacking Shadow Shield but are vulnerable to Choice Scarf Lunala, which attacks first. Though preserving Shadow Shield can be useful, Choice Scarf Lunala isn't overly reliant on it. It will focus on revenge killing a foe, so it will switch into a threat that it outspeeds even if entry hazards are present on the field. The speed advantage Lunala gains from Choice Scarf further diminishes the necessity to preserve Shadow Shield, so be aggressive with this set. Switch Lunala into powerful foes like Ultra Necrozma that struggle to OHKO Lunala and slower foes like Extreme Killer Arceus should they be in range of Lunala's attacks. Note that Lunala will have some difficulties facing defensive teams with Choice Scarf due to its inability to switch moves. This means Pokemon like Ho-Oh, Arceus-Dark, and Blissey can switch into Lunala to scout what move it will lock itself into and proceed to switch out to a different Pokemon, forcing Lunala's team to make aggressive double switches to retain momentum. Though Trick can cripple a defensive Pokemon, the move has only a single chance to cripple a switch-in, cannot cripple support Arceus formes, and will remove Lunala's speed advantage against them. Pursuit users also become problematic for Choice Scarf Lunala due to it not being able to switch moves. While Alolan Muk poses a problem to all sets, Tyranitar can be harder to deal with due to it forcing Lunala to lock itself into Focus Blast to avoid getting trapped and removed by Pursuit after sandstorm damage breaks Shadow Shield on the switch. Should there be any foe that can harshly punish Lunala locked into Moongeist Beam, consider making double switches and aiming to wear down potential switch-ins until they are removed or weakened enough to be unreliable. Team Options Choice Scarf Lunala is an effective anti-offense Pokemon that can pressure offensive teams by exploiting their general lack of reliable switch-ins to Ghost-types. Thus, it fits in well with balanced cores that can provide entry hazard support to punish switch-ins and check a good number of Pokemon that can exploit Lunala locked into a wrong move. More offensive Stealth Rock users like Stealth Rock + Swords Dance Primal Groudon can be considered to pressure bulkier foes early-game. Pressuring teams early-game increases the chances that Lunala can potentially clean up weakened foes after its checks have been removed or sufficiently weakened. Various slower foes like Ferrothorn and Toxapex can pivot into support Arceus formes and set Spikes and Toxic Spikes to punish grounded foes harder than Stealth Rock would. Toxapex can also check Marshadow. In return, Lunala can take out faster foes like Mega Gengar and Mega Mewtwo Y that have the ability to remove these Pokemon. Wallbreakers like Primal Kyogre that struggle against faster foes due to their middling Speed can also benefit from this set as well while pressuring bulkier teams in return. Pivots to Dark-types like Xerneas and Magearna are needed. Xerneas has more room to customize its moveset, as Lunala performs the role of a revenge killer holding Choice Scarf, meaning it can run Geomancy to clean up weakened teams, which Lunala may struggle to do because of its lower damage output. Magearna is a reliable answer to many Dark-types that may get out of hand if they are not immediately dealt with after Lunala locks itself into Moongeist Beam against them.
