With the combination of Substitute and Toxic, Manectric is a good lure for Ground-types like Rhydon and Piloswine, both of which safely switch into Choice item sets. While it faces competition with Will-O-Wisp Rotom, Manectric's higher Speed, Electric immunity, and Fire-type coverage allow it to stand out. Flamethrower targets Grass-types like Tangela, Exeggutor, and Lurantis, as well as Ground-types immune to Toxic such as Alolan Dugtrio and Galarian Stunfisk. Balance and bulky teams enjoy Manectric revenge killing foes like Klinklang, Jynx, and Qwilfish without being Choice locked. To help it defensively, physically bulky Pokemon like Poliwrath, Tangela, and Miltank can better stomach hits from Ground-types like Rhydon and Piloswine, faster Pokemon like Alolan Dugtrio and Froslass, and Choice Scarf users like Sawk and Gourgeist-S. Slow VoltTurn pivots such as Clefairy, Uxie, and Articuno can help bring Manectric in safely; outside of predicted Electric-type attacks, Manectric cannot switch in safely due to its low bulk. Late-game sweepers such as Klinklang, Lunatone, and Silvally formes can capitalize on Manectric whittling down their checks and counters with Toxic, like Stunfisk, Silvally-Dark, and Rhydon, to help them break through.

Manectric is a potent Choice Scarf user thanks to its high Speed letting it outspeed sweepers like +1 Silvally formes and Choice Scarf Sawk, great Electric + Fire coverage, and Volt Switch. Additionally, it brings a valuable Electric immunity thanks to Lightning Rod letting it absorb Volt Switch from Rotom formes. Overheat provides coverage for Electric-resistant foes like Thwackey, Galarian Stunfisk, and Tangela. If Manectric's high Speed tier isn't needed anymore, it can use Switcheroo to cripple special walls such as Stunfisk, Clefairy, and Rhydon. Manectric is a great choice for VoltTurn teams looking for a revenge killer and Electric immunity. Additional VoltTurn users such as Uxie, Articuno, and Alolan Persian are appreciated. The aforementioned ones are especially great, as they can sponge hits for Manectric, making up for its lackluster bulk, and wear down Ground-types such as Rhydon, Stunfisk, and Piloswine. Physical wallbreakers like Thwackey, Kangaskhan, and Sawk can take advantage of special walls that Manectric forces in and pivots against with Volt Switch. Entry hazard support from partners like Rhydon, Coalossal, and Qwilfish benefits Manectric by letting it take more advantage of Volt Switch and guaranteeing OHKOs against Tangela.

Manectric is a powerful Choice Specs user thanks to its great offensive stats and Electric + Fire coverage, which let it threaten common defensive cores like Articuno + Qwilfish + Galarian Stunfisk. Choice Specs-boosted Volt Switch whittles down special walls like Clefairy, Throh, and Appletun while retaining momentum. Overheat allows Manectric to OHKO threats like Flapple and Rotom and break down Ground-types such as Galarian Stunfisk. Flamethrower is an alternative that doesn't drop Manectric's Special Attack, which makes it more spammable, but it does not break down Volt Switch switch-ins as effectively as Overheat. Switcheroo lets Manectric cripple checks like Piloswine, Rhydon, and Coalossal which it is unable to break through, at the cost giving up Choice Specs. Manectric fits at best on VoltTurn cores with partners like Thwackey, Articuno, and Uxie, chipping down the opposing team through constant pivoting. Spikes support from Qwilfish or Coalossal helps this process by further weakening the foes, putting foes like Sawk and Flapple into OHKO range. Physical wallbreakers like Sawk, Thwackey, and Shiftry can take advantange of special walls and Ground-types that Manectric forces in and benefit from its ability to safely bring them in. Special cleaners like Calm Mind Galarian Rapidash, Nasty Plot Liepard, and Skuntank enjoy Manectric weakening special walls, making it easier for them to clean late-game.

Moves Volt Switch allows Manectric to pivot out against Pokemon it cannot adequately deal with, gaining momentum in the process. Overheat hits the Grass-types that resist Electric-type attacks such as Victreebel, Abomasnow, and Shiftry. Hidden Power Grass hits Gastrodon and Lanturn, which Manectric otherwise can't touch. Switcheroo can incapacitate walls such as Audino and Altaria, removing their usefulness for the remainder of the match. Set Details Choice Scarf enables Manectric to outspeed the majority of the metagame, including +1 Jynx, Alolan Sandslash under hail, and +2 Carracosta. Lightning Rod allows Manectric to safely switch into predicted Electric-type attacks while simultaneously boosting its Special Attack by one stage. Usage Tips Choice Scarf Manectric is typically the main way to check faster foes for a team, as it is one of the fastest Choice Scarf users in the tier. Keeping Manectric around until mid- or late-game is most optimal for maximum cleaning potential. Manectric is pretty frail, so its usually advised to not directly switch it in unless on a resisted attack, on an Electric-type attack, or you are predicting the opponent to switch. Sets utilizing Switcheroo should be cautious to not switch items too early, as switching away its Choice Scarf too early in the match can mean Manectric is no longer able to revenge kill Pokemon like Primeape and +2 Omastar. Try not to lock Manectric into Electric-type moves when the opponent still has Electric-immune Pokemon around. It is usually better to lock Manectric into a coverage move to prevent it from losing momentum. Manectric is a decent revenge killer, picking off weakened Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Primeape. Volt Switch should be used to pivot and gain momentum for your team while dealing chip damage at the same time. Team Options Manectric appreciates having another VoltTurn partner, such as Primeape or Silvally-Fairy, to help chip away at the opponent's Pokemon so another teammate can clean up late-game. Water- and Flying-types like Carracosta, Swanna, and Oricorio-G appreciate the Electric-type immunity Manectric provides. In turn, Water-types deal super effective damage to the Ground-types Manectric is weak to, while Flying-types are immune to Ground-type attacks. Manectric appreciates teammates that set up Stealth Rock and Spikes, such as Aggron and Qwilfish. With support from entry hazards, Manectric has an easier time chipping away at the opponent's Pokemon, especially Pokemon like Lanturn and Hitmonchan, which it has a hard time wearing down. Grass-types like Lurantis and Ludicolo make for good partners for Manectric, as they can switch into Ground-types that trouble Manectric. This is especially important if Manectric makes a misprediction and is locked into an Electric-type move against an opposing Ground-type. Pursuit trappers such as Skuntank and Spiritomb assist Manectric in removing troublesome checks, most notably Lanturn. Wallbreakers like Drampa also assist with wearing down Manectric's checks by severely denting them.

Moves Volt Switch is Mega Manectric's primary STAB attack and the move it should aim to use the most throughout the course of a match, as it allows Mega Manectric to gain momentum for your team while dealing chip damage to foes. Overheat allows Mega Manectric to OHKO Pokemon like Celebi after Stealth Rock damage, Cobalion, and physically defensive Klefki at the cost of having low accuracy and halving Mega Manectric's Special Attack after use. Flamethrower is an alternative, more reliable Fire-type coverage move, but it loses out on the many KOs listed earlier. Thunderbolt is Mega Manectric's stronger STAB attack that it uses to KO Pokemon without needing to switch out afterwards. Thunderbolt also gains some KOs that Volt Switch does not, like OHKOing Alomomola and Slowbro after Stealth Rock damage. Hidden Power Ice lets Mega Manectric hit Ground- and Dragon-types like Hydreigon, Latias, Nidoqueen, Gligar, and Krookodile for super effective damage. Hidden Power Grass allows Mega Manectric to deal heavy damage to Ground-types like Swampert, Quagsire, and Rhyperior but loses out on hitting Dragon-types like Hydreigon and Latias. Alternatively, Signal Beam can be used in the last moveslot in order to hit Krookodile, Hydreigon, Celebi, and Latias harder than any other move, but this causes Mega Manectric to lose out on the ability to hit any other Ground-type super effectively. Set Details Maximum investment in Special Attack and Speed with a Timid nature allows Mega Manectric to hit as hard as possible while outspeeding Pokemon like Crobat and Mega Pidgeot. Lightning Rod is the preferred ability before Manectric Mega Evolves, as it lets Manectric pivot into and block one predicted Volt Switch from Rotom-C, Zeraora, or opposing Mega Manectric to gain a boost to its Special Attack and shift momentum to your side. Intimidate is used frequently throughout a match in order to weaken physically offensive foes. Manectite gives Manectric the ability to Mega Evolve. Usage Tips Mega Manectric should use Volt Switch as much as possible to gain momentum for your team while also dealing damage. Volt Switch is also a generally safe middle-ground play for when you do not know whether your opponent will switch out or not, although you must be mindful of Ground-type switch-ins like Hippowdon, Gligar, and Krookodile, which block Volt Switch. Because of its subpar bulk, Mega Manectric should primarily be brought in with pivoting from fellow U-turn or Volt Switch users like Scizor and Hydreigon, and it can also be brought in on a free switch to attempt to revenge kill a slower foe like Cobalion or Scizor. Mega Manectric can be brought in on some weak predicted hits, however, such as a predicted Bullet Punch from a bulky Scizor, or on Electric-type attacks if not yet Mega Evolved. You can use Intimidate as a form of utility by sending Mega Manectric in on a physical attacker like Cobalion and then pivoting out in an attempt to weaken them for your other team members. Try to keep Mega Manectric as healthy as possible throughout a match because it lacks any way to regain health and needs to be as healthy as possible to revenge kill priority attackers such as Crawdaunt and offensive Scizor. This involves switching Mega Manectric in as few times as possible when there are entry hazards up, since they will wear it down very quickly. Team Options Mega Manectric fits best on VoltTurn offense due to its nature as an offensive pivot and revenge killer, but it can also fit just generally on hyper offense and bulky offense. Other users of Volt Switch and U-turn like Scizor, Hydreigon, and Infernape make great partners for Mega Manectric because they can give it many opportunities to come in throughout the course of a match. Stealth Rock support from Pokemon like Cobalion and Krookodile and Spikes support from Klefki will make Mega Manectric's job of revenge killing much easier. Because of Mega Manectric's nature of switching in and out often, it enjoys entry hazard removal support from Pokemon like Starmie, Hydreigon, and Empoleon to keep Mega Manectric from taking too much residual damage. Wallbreakers like Mamoswine, Crawdaunt, and Lucario appreciate the free switches that Mega Manectric provides from Volt Switch in order to break defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Florges that Mega Manectric cannot. Pokemon such as Mamoswine, Starmie, and Primarina that are capable of damaging bulky Ground-types like Hippowdon and Gligar, which would otherwise block Volt Switch, make good partners for Mega Manectric. If not opting for Hidden Power Grass, Grass-types like Celebi and Amoonguss are especially good partners, as they can break past Rhyperior and Water / Ground Pokemon like Swampert and Quagsire. Pursuit users like Krookodile, Scizor, and Bisharp can help to take out bulky Psychic-type Pokemon that resist Volt Switch like Latias and Celebi.

Moves Volt Switch is one of the key features of using Mega Manectric, allowing it to quickly pivot out of foes into teammates that can more readily handle them. Thunderbolt is Mega Manectric's most spammable attack, hitting many foes hard with its great Special Attack. Hidden Power Ice allows Mega Manectric to hit Ground-types that are immune to its STAB attacks such as Landorus and Garchomp as well as Dragon-types such as Latios and Dragonite. Overheat is a very powerful Fire-type attack, allowing Mega Manectric to blast back Steel- and Grass-types such as Excadrill, Ferrothorn, and Celebi. Flamethrower is an alternative to Overheat, as it doesn't reduce Mega Manectric's Special Attack after a hit, as well as having 100% accuracy. However, the drop in Base Power is noticeable in missing several OHKOs such as against Excadrill and specially defensive Ferrothorn. Set Details Maximum Speed along with a Timid nature allows Mega Manectric to be as fast as possible, allowing it to Speed tie Mega Lopunny as well as outspeed Pokemon such as Greninja and +1 Mega Tyranitar. Maximum Special Attack enables Mega Manectric to be as strong as possible, while 4 Special Defense EVs are used so opposing Download Pokemon such as Porygon2 do not get a Special Attack boost. Lightning Rod allows Manectric to switch into predicted Electric-type attacks such as Volt Switch and gain a Special Attack boost before Mega Evolving. Manectite grants Manectric the ability to Mega Evolve, boosting its stats greatly. After Mega Evolving, Mega Manectric gains the ability Intimidate, lowering its foes' Attack by one stage upon switch in. This is very useful in conjunction with Volt Switch to disrupt slower physical attackers and bring in its defensive teammates more reliably. Usage Tips As Mega Manectric is an offensive pivot, use Volt Switch liberally against teams that lack an Electric-immune Pokemon in order to keep Mega Manectric safe from attacks while whittling down opposing Pokemon and switching into its defensive teammates. Be sure to use Volt Switch against walls that Mega Manectric cannot take on such as Chansey in order to bring in a teammate that can deal with it such as Thundurus while gaining some chip damage. Bring Mega Manectric in on weak physical attackers such as Ferrothorn, as they do little damage after a drop in Attack from Intimidate while forcing it either to switch out or get OHKOed by Mega Manectric's Fire-type coverage. In addition, bring in Manectric before it Mega Evolves against Pokemon that commonly use Volt Switch such as Tapu Koko and Zapdos in order to disrupt their pivot and gain a Special Attack boost. However, be wary of their other coverage moves, as Manectric's poor bulk leads it to being worn down very quickly. Due to Mega Manectric's lackluster bulk, keep entry hazards off of the field as much as possible throughout the battle in order to preserve its health as it tries to pivot out. Thanks to its amazing Speed, utilize Mega Manectric to revenge kill slower threats such as Landorus and Choice Band Terrakion after a teammate has fainted. Team Options Tapu Koko forms an amazing pivot combo along with Mega Manectric, allowing them to chip down opposing Pokemon quickly with VoltTurn. Tapu Koko also sets Electric Terrain for Mega Manectric, amplifying its Electric-type attacks' power. Additionally, running Mega Manectric as an offensive pivot enables Tapu Koko to take advantage of moves that it normally cannot afford to run such as Grass Knot and U-turn. Rotom-W and Zapdos form a great defensive pair for Mega Manectric to pivot into, as they appreciate Mega Manectric's Intimidate to more readily absorb foes' attacks. Rotom-W can also utilize Will-O-Wisp to nullify physical attackers for Mega Manectric, and Zapdos can provide Defog support. Alolan Golem sets Stealth Rock for Mega Manectric, allowing it to further chip down foes upon switch in as they try to deal with Mega Manectric's ability to work as a fast pivot. Alolan Raichu is a fantastic revenge killer with amazing coverage options that takes on Pokemon that Mega Manectric cannot cover. Notably, it helps by dealing with Mega Venusaur, which walls all of Mega Manectric's attacks. Thundurus assists Mega Manectric by dealing with the troublesome Normal defensive core of Porygon2 and Chansey with Knock Off, which otherwise absorb all of Mega Manectric's attacks. It also acts as a strong physical attacker to take on other specially defensive Pokemon that Mega Manectric can not handle on its own like Cradily.

Moves Volt Switch is key to make Mega Manectric the reliable pivot it is, enabling it to switch out while dealing decent damage. Snarl punishes special attackers, being notably helpful to let teammates shrug off moves. Overheat hits Grass-types like Tapu Bulu, Amoonguss, and Ferrothorn, as well as Mega Metagross, a powerful and popular pick. Hidden Power Ice hits foes 4x weak to Ice, most notably Zygarde, Landorus-T, and Mega Salamence, the former two of which wall any set lacking the move. Hidden Power Ice could replace either Snarl or Overheat. Giving up Overheat makes Mega Manectric lose important coverage on Grass-types and Mega Metagross, whereas losing out on Snarl reduces some of its utility against special attackers; choosing which move to give up depends a lot on Mega Manectric's teammates, making it important to evaluate Mega Manectric's choice of moves on a case-by-case basis. Finally, Protect not only keeps Mega Manectric safe from attacks that could be troublesome but also lets it stall out methods of speed control such as Tailwind and Trick Room. Set Details Maximum Speed EVs alongside a Timid nature let Mega Manectric outrun +1 Modest Kommo-o and Rash Deoxys-A while still tying with opposing Mega Manectric. Its bulk investment enables it to take a Psychic from Choice Scarf Tapu Lele in Psychic Terrain or a Stomping Tantrum from Mega Metagross. The rest of EVs are invested into Special Attack. Alternatively, 252 SpA EVs and 252 Spe EVs can be used to increase firepower, but this makes Mega Manectric a less reliable pivot. Lightning Rod is the preferred ability before Mega Evolution to redirect Electric-type moves, which not only can improve its firepower considerably but also helps teammates take on threats like Tapu Koko. Usage Tips Mega Manectric is quite a solid lead, providing not only Intimidate but also a reliable method of pivoting and scouting thanks to its fast Volt Switch. It's important to try to undergo Mega Evolution early if Lightning Rod won't have much use, as this allows it to offer Intimidate support on the switch. Nonetheless, it's always nice to attempt to preserve Mega Manectric for late-game, as it can be quite helpful to seal a match with the combination of Intimidate and Snarl to keep faster foes in check. Pivot Mega Manectric into physical attackers to reduce their firepower with Intimidate. Decent effective bulk after Intimidate lets it come in a couple times on a match, so make sure to make the best use of that bulk by constantly utilizing Volt Switch and Intimidate against your opponent. Speaking of Volt Switch, be careful not to use it when the opponent predicts it and sends in a Ground-type; this will leave Mega Manectric vulnerable to damage it might not have intended to take during that turn. If running Overheat, it's usually ideal to pivot out afterward due to the resulting Special Attack drop. Allies with a setup move can take advantage of Intimidate and Snarl, giving them a lot more opportunities, so try to pivot Mega Manectric in when attempting to set up with them. Lastly, if your opponent has a strong Electric-type like Tapu Koko, it could be ideal to hold off on Mega Evolving for a turn or two to redirect its Electric move; just keep the lack of Intimidate, power, and Speed in mind. Team Options Setup sweepers like Zygarde and Kommo-o greatly appreciate Intimidate and Snarl giving them more opportunities to set up. Pokemon with U-turn like Genesect and Incineroar have great synergy with Mega Manectric, enabling constant pivoting and a continually changing board state. In a similar manner, a secondary Intimidate user like Landorus-T or the aforementioned Incineroar is a good choice to annoy opposing physical attackers with a lot more effectiveness by constantly pivoting back and forth. Pokemon that take on Dragon-types like Kyurem-B and Kommo-o that would otherwise wall Mega Manectric are great partners; examples include Tapu Fini and the aforementioned Genesect. Tailwind users like Suicune and Mew greatly appreciate Intimidate and Snarl giving them more opportunities to set up. Similarly, speed control in Icy Wind or Electroweb is also appreciated, making up for Mega Manectric's susceptibility to opposing speed control. Notable users include Assault Vest Kyurem-B and Porygon2, especially since both have great matchups against Landorus-T and Zygarde. A countermeasure to Trick Room is important, as most frameworks with Mega Manectric can be quite susceptible to it otherwise; Roar Suicune is a sound pick, also compressing the role of a Tailwind setter, but Taunt users such as Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele also excel at this role. Gothitelle can trap opposing Pokemon whose stats were lowered by Intimidate or Snarl while also being able to reset opposing Trick Room.

Moves Thunderbolt is a mandatory STAB move that lets Mega Manectric hit prevalent Water-types such as Tapu Fini and Toxapex hard, while Volt Switch is important so that Mega Manectric can generate momentum for its team. Overheat or Flamethrower alongside Hidden Power Ice is vital because Fire- and Ice-type coverage on one set allows Manectric to hit Ground-types such as Landorus-T and Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Aegislash, which would otherwise wall Mega Manectric. This coverage also gives Mega Manectric a niche over Tapu Koko. Flamethrower is an option over Overheat that does not miss and conserves Manectric's Special Attack, though the power drop is very noticeable. Flamethrower misses out on the 50% chance Overheat has to OHKO Mega Metagross, and it cannot OHKO specially defensive Ferrothorn or Mega Mawile. Set Details Maximum Speed investment allows Mega Manectric to outspeed most of the unboosted Battle Spot metagame, giving as much momentum to its teammates as possible. A Timid nature is vital to let Manectric outspeed the likes of Tapu Koko and Mega Gengar. The Special Attack investment lets Mega Manectric hit as hard as possible, while the 4 Special Defense EVs ensure Porygon2 receives an Attack boost from Download. Lightning Rod is the preferred pre-Mega ability so that Manectric can easily switch into Electric-type moves. Usage Tips Mega Manectric likes to lead battles and immediately use Volt Switch so that you can gain the upper hand or preserve Mega Manectric's health for a Pokemon that threatens its teammates. Throughout the match, Mega Manectric is best used to weaken physical attackers and provide chip damage for its teammates. While it may be tempting to Mega Evolve immediately, keeping regular Manectric's Lightning Rod is occasionally more beneficial to discourage opposing Electric-types such as Thundurus-T and Tapu Koko from spamming STAB moves; however, not Mega Evolving can be a risky play because normal Manectric is slower and very frail. Team Options Mega Manectric likes having Landorus-T as a partner because it provides a double Intimidate core and is immune to Ground. Landorus-T also can provide chip damage to opponents with Stealth Rock, Rocky Helmet, and U-turn, which lets it form a VoltTurn core with Mega Manectric. Similarly, Gyarados and Celesteela are good teammates because they are immune to Ground and Lightning Rod Manectric can switch into Electric-type attacks aimed at them and get a free Special Attack boost.

Moves Thunderbolt makes good use of Manectric's high Special Attack, and Volt Switch is able to grab momentum. Overheat is a great coverage move to hit common switch-ins to Electric-types such as Vileplume, Steelix, and Ferroseed. The former two cannot survive an Overheat (unless Steelix still has Sturdy intact), which means Manectric has a big niche over Electivire, which fails to OHKO either of them with Flamethrower. Flamethrower can be used over Overheat to avoid becoming setup fodder for Lilligant or Rhydon, as Manectric can't do much to either of them when at -2 Special Attack, but two Overheats are still stronger than two Flamethrowers, which makes it a better pick in most situations. Flamethrower also fails to OHKO Steelix and Vileplume after Stealth Rock damage. Hidden Power Grass is used to hit Rhydon, Gastrodon, and Lanturn, which can otherwise wall Manectric. Set Details Lightning Rod gives Manectric an Electric immunity while also boosting its Special Attack, making it the superior ability over Static. Maximum Speed and a Timid nature make Manectric hit a very important Speed tier, outspeeding Charizard, Jynx, and Primeape, as well as allowing it to Speed tie with Mismagius and Scyther, which is something it couldn't achieve with a Modest nature. Life Orb is usually chosen over Choice Specs because Manectric heavily prefers being able to switch up moves, as it may otherwise lose you momentum, such as if your opponent switches in their Lanturn on a Volt Switch. Life Orb also overshadows Expert Belt, since Manectric needs the extra damage on neutral targets like Primeape and Kangaskhan. Usage Tips Use Volt Switch a lot early-game to whittle down and cripple the opponent's team quickly. Thunderbolt should be used when the opponent is likely to sacrifice a Pokemon to an incoming Volt Switch to get the advantage on the next Pokemon coming out; this lets you keep up the offensive pressure. Try to predict the opponent switching in Electric-immune Pokemon such as Lanturn and Rhydon and hit them with Hidden Power Grass, or with Fire coverage in Steelix's case; this is very important because once they have been weakened or removed Manectric can use its STAB moves without any drawback. Manectric should attempt to come in on predicted Electric-type moves such as Rotom's and Lanturn's Volt Switch to acquire a Lightning Rod boost. However, you should only do this if Manectric can OHKO the foe at +1, as it is extremely frail and struggles to stomach neutral hits. Manectric should be played aggressively and utilize its coverage to break apart balance cores and maintain offensive pressure. Team Options Pokemon that are able to switch in on Electric-immune foes and pressure them such as Rotom and Vileplume are good partners for Manectric because they help wear down one another's checks and counters. Spikes and Toxic Spikes setters like Garbodor help wear down Manectric's checks such as Lanturn, and the residual damage allows it to KO Pokemon that could otherwise take a hit from it, such as Rhydon and specially defensive Vileplume. Stealth Rock setters also help to chip the opponent's team and break Steelix's Sturdy and any random Focus Sashes; these Pokemon are typically Flying-type checks as well, like Archeops and Rhydon, which help versus Swellow and opposing Archeops, Pokemon that Manectric struggles to beat one-on-one. Other VoltTurn users to accompany Manectric like Primeape and Scyther help to wear down the opposing team really quickly. Choice Band Primeape also helps to pressure a lot of Manectric's switch-ins like Rhydon and Gastrodon. Fire-types such as Charizard and Pyroar like having Water-types like Kabutops and Samurott dealt with, and they both work together to break down Gastrodon and Rhydon with Hidden Power Grass.

Moves Volt Switch allows Mega Manectric to pivot out of unfavorable matchups and ease prediction when the foe also switches out. Thunderbolt is the preferred STAB move when going for maximum power and KOs. A Fire-type coverage move is used to hit bulky Steel-types as well as hit Grass-types harder than Hidden Power Ice; Flamethrower is more consistent than Overheat because it does not miss and does not induce a Special Attack drop, but Overheat is more powerful, netting the OHKO on Mega Metagross and Excadrill, as well as guaranteeing the OHKO on Ferrothorn. Hidden Power Ice completes the BoltBeam coverage, providing a way to hit Ground- and Dragon-types. Set Details Maximum Speed EVs with a Timid nature make Mega Manectric as fast as possible, outspeeding threats such as Tornadus-T and Weavile while Speed tying Jolly Mega Lopunny. Maximum Special Attack is used to hit as hard as possible. Lightning Rod allows Manectric to get a Special Attack boost in its pre-Mega forme if it is hit by an Electric-type move. Usage Tips It is generally advisable to Mega Evolve Manectric early in the match so that it can utilize its excellent Speed and apply pressure from the get-go. Volt Switch is the move of choice early- and mid-game to soften up the opponent's team and provide yourself with the switch advantage. One should try to identify potential Choice Scarf users on the opposing team and consider hard switching Manectric if faced with one such as Landorus-T. If the opposing team is carrying a significant number of priority moves, limit the number of times Mega Manectric switches into entry hazards so that it can survive these moves late-game. Team Options Mega Manectric really appreciates entry hazard support, so Pokemon like Garchomp, Heatran, and Landorus-T all make for fine partners to set up Stealth Rock and tank attacks directed towards it. In a similar vein, Klefki, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn can stack Spikes, which can be deadly in tandem with Volt Switch. Water-, Grass-, and Ice-types are very beneficial to Mega Manectric for their ability to defeat Ground-types that wall it. Keldeo in particular is also able to pressure blanket special walls such as Chansey thanks to Secret Sword, and it also checks Bisharp, which gets a Defiant boost from Mega Manectric's Intimidate. Azumarill is also a great partner because it checks Mega Charizard X, which takes very little damage from Mega Manectric's attacks, while also being an answer to weather-based offense, which Mega Manectric struggles against. Breloom also checks weather-based offense and can use Mach Punch to clean up teams that Mega Manectric has weakened. Many bulky Psychic-types such as Celebi, Latias, and Mew can wall Mega Manectric, so it really enjoys Pursuit support from the likes of Tyranitar, Weavile, Bisharp, and Assault Vest Metagross. Weavile especially synergizes well with Mega Manectric for also defeating Ground- and Grass-types that wall it, while Mega Manectric defeats some of Weavile's best checks in bulky Steel-types such as Mega Scizor. Gengar is also a nice partner for generally pressuring defensive Pokemon that can take hits from Mega Manectric, and Mega Manectric can check Tornadus-T, which is a major annoyance to Gengar. Crawdaunt is a solid partner for many of the same reasons as Azumarill and Weavile. Talonflame can work well with Mega Manectric by overloading similar checks such as Hippowdon and hard checking Clefable, and Mega Manectric can threaten bulky Water-types such as Slowbro in return. Mega Manectric can fit onto rain offense with a powerful Thunder and the ability to pivot to reset weather and threaten bulky Water-types, which are typically annoying for rain. Tornadus-T is also a solid partner, as it forms a VoltTurn core with Mega Manectric and threatens Grass-types, which check or wall Mega Manectric.

Moves A simple attacking set gets the most out of Manectric's coverage, speed, and power in order to allow it to pressure more balanced teams significantly. Volt Switch allows Manectric to wear down the likes of Diancie, Aromatisse, and Meloetta into KO range of the proper move later while also building or maintaining offensive momentum for its team. Thunderbolt allows Manectric to stay in later in the game when its checks and counters are sufficiently weakened, and it's also useful for when the opponent simply lacks a reliable switch-in. Manectric's choice of Fire-type coverage comes down to whether the team needs Manectric to have a better chance of cleaning or to have a stronger move off the bat to wear down or KO walls quicker. Flamethrower is generally preferred for its accuracy and it keeps Manectric from becoming setup fodder. However, Overheat hits much harder on the first turn, thus making it better for teams that simply need Manectric to quickly remove Steel- and Grass-type Pokemon. Hidden Power Ice rounds off the coverage by allowing Manectric to deal with Flygon and also to hit Druddigon harder than any other move on this set. Hidden Power Grass is an option if Manectric's team is weak to Rhyperior and Seismitoad, while Hidden Power Water can be used to maintain coverage on Rhyperior and also KO Mega Camerupt, one of Manectric's most feared offensive checks, after it has been lured in. Keep in mind that Manectric needs some chip damage to KO specially defensive Rhyperior with the proper Hidden Power thanks to Solid Rock. Although it sounds a bit unorthodox, Ice Fang can be used over Volt Switch or Thunderbolt to allow Manectric to run Hidden Power Grass in order to cover both Flygon and Rhyperior, but it usually isn't worth giving up the utility of Volt Switch or the power of Thunderbolt. Set Details There isn't much of a point in going with anything other than maximum Speed and Special Attack, as Manectric is quite frail. Life Orb is the primary item choice thanks to the overall power boost that it gives to Manectric's moves. Manectric won't be standing up to many hits anyway, so the recoil doesn't matter. Expert Belt is a viable alternative due to the super effective coverage Manectric possesses and can be especially useful if Manectric is the team's offensive check to Fletchinder. Lightning Rod should be the only ability to consider, as it gives Manectric a Special Attack boost if it finds the chance to switch into a stray Electric-type move like Volt Switch or Thunder Wave. Usage Tips Manectric is quite frail and won't survive many attacks, so try to switch it in after a KO, via Volt Switch or U-turn, or on predicted double switches by the opponent. Stray Electric-type moves, such as Thunder Wave from Uxie and Slowking, can also give Manectric opportunities to switch in and a boost to its Special Attack via Lightning Rod. Alomomola and Qwilfish are generally two of the very few Pokemon that Manectric fears very little from offensively due to their tendency to run Scald as their only attacking move. Volt Switch is a good move to use early on to see what the opponent intends to do against Manectric. Should Manectric have the ability to push past the initial response, keep that in mind for when Manectric comes in next time. Although Manectric's primary role should be a balance breaker, it can reliably clean should it be running Flamethrower once faster Pokemon are removed. When using Overheat, Manectric should aggressively try to eliminate or heavily damage Venusaur and Registeel after they've taken a little bit of chip damage from entry hazards or Thunderbolt. Manectric's Hidden Power type should not be revealed until the proper target switches into battle, as it's quite a weak move against most Pokemon that aren't 4x weak to it. Team Options Manectric is able to reliably remove bulky Grass- and Steel-type Pokemon, so it stands to reason that its teammates should be able to take advantage of this. Aerodactyl and Fletchinder can greatly benefit from a fallen or severely damaged Steelix and Registeel while a KOed or weakened Venusaur can help Virizion flourish offensively. Manectric struggles to get past Rhyperior, Seismitoad, and Mega Camerupt due to their Electric-type immunity and its tendency to not run the proper Hidden Power for them in order to cover Flygon. Grass-types, Virizion in particular, generally fare well against Rhyperior and Seismitoad. Venusaur is a more offensive answer, but it's a bit shakier against Rhyperior than the former two Grass-types. Flygon and Slowking can stomach Mega Camerupt's STAB moves reliably. In particular, Flygon can work especially well with Manectric due to being able to form an offensive VoltTurn core with Manectric and it can also run a Choice Scarf set with Tailwind to let Manectric clean up offensive teams late-game with a crucial Speed boost. Other Pokemon to consider for a VoltTurn core are Scyther and Magneton, as Scyther appreciates Steel- and bulky Water-type Pokemon being removed and Magneton shares similar checks and counters to Manectric. Although it isn't weak to Stealth Rock, Manectric likes to switch in and out a lot and is vulnerable to all forms of entry hazards. This makes Flygon, Blastoise, and Hitmontop solid options, as they can utilize Defog and Rapid Spin to get rid of entry hazards. Meloetta and Diancie are key specially bulky Pokemon that can take a hit or two from Manectric and hit back pretty hard. Spiritomb makes Meloetta's life miserable due to being immune to both of its STAB moves, while Choice Band Escavalier can maintain offensive pressure against both of them as well as less common specially bulky checks to Manectric, such as Mega Audino and regular Audino. Although they are not as common as they used to be, Toxic Spikes can be a big help to Manectric in wearing down common answers, such as Mega Camerupt and Seismitoad. Qwilfish is most notable, as it can use Mega Audino and Aromatisse as Toxic Spikes fodder, even able to Taunt the former to keep it from setting up Calm Minds or supporting its team, while also drawing in Electric-type moves for Manectric to switch into.

Moves Thunderbolt is Mega Manectric's most reliable STAB option, and it's ideal for heavily damaging several common Flying- and Water-types such as Mega Charizard Y, Tomohawk, Naviathan, and Manaphy. Volt Switch is also quite strong with STAB, allowing Mega Manectric to gain momentum against its switch-ins as long as they aren't immune to the move. Overheat provides strong coverage against Grass- and Steel-types, such as Ferrothorn, Necturna, Mega Scizor, Mega Metagross, and Cawmodore. Flamethrower can be used instead for its increased reliability, as it's 100% accurate and doesn't cause a Special Attack drop, but the power drop is noticeable against most of the previously mentioned targets. Hidden Power Ice rounds off the set by providing pseudo-BoltBeam coverage, hitting Dragon- and Ground-types such as Cyclohm, Latias, Latios, Mega Altaria, Garchomp, Gliscor, and Hippowdon super effectively. Set Details Maximum investment in Special Attack and Speed ensures that Mega Manectric hits as hard and as fast as possible. A Timid nature is preferred to make the best use out of Mega Manectric's excellent Speed tier. A Modest nature would leave it outsped by positive-natured Syclant, Stratagem, and Weavile, so it's not recommended. Lightning Rod is Manectric's most useful ability prior to Mega Evolving, allowing it to nab a Special Attack boost from a foe's Electric-type move. Usage Tips With its high Speed and access to Volt Switch, Mega Manectric mainly functions as a scout and a momentum grabber earlier on in the match. As the match goes on, Mega Manectric can be brought in as needed for revenge killing. Be wary of Ground-types that can block Volt Switch and thus prevent Mega Manectric from gaining momentum, and catch them on the switch with Hidden Power Ice. If there are speedy foes, such as Cawmodore, on the opposing team that you suspect Mega Manectric will be required to check later on in the match, try to Mega Evolve Manectric as soon as possible so that it will have the Speed required to check these foes. Even after being significantly weakened, Mega Manectric can remain useful with Intimidate to weaken physically offensive foes and potentially give a teammate a setup opportunity later on in the match. Team Options Ground-types, especially Colossoil, can be quite problematic for Mega Manectric, so it needs teammates to take these foes on. Flying-types such as Tomohawk and Skarmory function quite well in this regard and can provide entry hazard support, as well as entry hazard removal to prevent Mega Manectric from being worn down too quickly. Landorus-T can also check Ground-types quite well and provides Stealth Rock support, and it also has U-turn and Intimidate to support its team even further. Other U-turn users such as Scizor, Tornadus-T, and Kitsunoh can form potent VoltTurn cores with Mega Manectric. Colossoil also makes for a nice partner, as it can control entry hazards with Rebound or Rapid Spin and also has access to U-turn to form a VoltTurn core with Mega Manectric. Other entry hazard removers, such as Tomohawk and Scizor, can pair well with Mega Manectric. Mega Manectric has trouble breaking through bulky special walls, so it pairs well with a strong wallbreaker to pivot into such as Azumarill or Volkraken to help bring them down. Gothitelle is also helpful to trap, cripple, and remove opposing walls; just beware of the compounded Colossoil weakness your team will have.

Moves Although Manectric's movepool is small, the moves that it has access to are quite varied in typing. Thunderbolt is the main choice for Manectric as it is a strong Electric-type STAB move. Volt Switch is another option that allows Manectric to deal a good chunk of damage due to its high base Special Attack, and then switch out so it can reactivate Intimidate when brought back in. Manectric has two options for the next moveslot: Overheat and Flamethrower. Flamethrower is a strong Fire-type move that deals a lot damage without any drawbacks. Overheat, on the other hand, is stronger, but lowers Manectric's Special Attack, which is a price that it may be unwilling to pay. The third slot is dependent on personal preference. Hidden Power Ice is the main choice as it can remove Ground-types that usually wall Manectric, and comes in handy when dealing with Garchomp. Manectric can try Snarl, which deals damage and cripples opposing special attackers. For the last slot, Protect is a must as it provides all the useful utilities that come with it in double battles. Set Details Most of the set is quite standard. Since this set is meant for Mega Manectric, Manectite is obviously the item of choice. The ability Manectric has prior to Mega Evolution should be Lightning Rod, as it allows Manectric to take advantage of Electric-type attacks. The other abilities are not useful, as Static is based on chance and relies on Manectric being attacked to activate, and Minus is completely useless. The EV spread is standard for special attackers and sweepers. 252 EVs in Special Attack are used to maximize Manectric's Special Attack, while the 252 EVs in Speed help to boost up its Speed. Lastly, both Timid and Modest natures are good on Mega Manectric. A Modest nature maximizes its Special Attack and is viable as Manectric already has a high base Speed, while a Timid nature helps it outspeed certain Pokemon prior to Mega Evolution, mainly Garchomp and Charizard. Usage Tips Manectric works nicely as a lead and can also keep momentum going with Volt Switch. If they have several physical attackers, it's recommended you lead off with Manectric and activate Intimidate. This is useful as after Manectric has Mega-Evolved, Intimidate will reactivate every time it is brought back into play. Using this, you can completely cripple opposing physical sweepers and render them useless. If your opponent's Pokemon are likely to fire off Electric-type moves, you should hold off on Mega Evolving since Manectric can take advantage of them with Lightning Rod. Team Options Manectric has some really good teammates that can complement its versatility. Gyarados works very well with Manectric, as it can take care of Ground-type Pokemon that normally scare Manectric. In addition, they both have Intimidate, and a double Intimidate core severely hampers Pokemon that depend on physical moves. Another good teammate for Manectric is Amoonguss, as it does not fear Pokemon that normally target Manectric and can offer good support thanks to its access to Rage Powder and Spore. Ground-types are nice teammates and allow Manectric to spam Discharge, as they do not take any damage due to their immunity to Electric-type moves. Lastly, Politoed works nicely due to Drizzle, which overrides other weather conditions and raises Thunder's accuracy to 100%.

Moves Volt Switch can be used to pivot out of Mega Manectric's checks as well as gain momentum by forcing switches. Thunderbolt is a secondary STAB move and is stronger than Volt Switch that also doesn't force Mega Manectric to switch. Hidden Power Ice is used to hit Ground- and Dragon-types that resist or are immune to Mega Manectric's other moves, such as Landorus and Dragonite. Flamethrower hits Grass-types such as Breloom harder than Hidden Power Ice. Overheat can be used instead for more power and to OHKO Ferrothorn and Excadrill, but it lowers Mega Manectric's Special Attack, which can force it to switch out. Set Details 252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature are used to maximize Mega Manectric's Speed to better revenge kill opposing Pokemon. 252 Special Attack EVs are used to hit as hard as possible. Static gives Manectric a chance to paralyze Pokemon making contact with it. Manectite is required to Mega Evolve, which gives Mega Manectric a huge Speed increase and Intimidate, enabling it to outspeed threats such as Mega Diancie and patch up its poor Defense, respectively. Usage Tips It is better to Mega Evolve Manectric early-game to gain the Speed increase and force Pokemon such as Landorus out. Intimidate helps force out frail physical attackers such as Weavile, but bringing Mega Manectric into attacks isn’t a good idea because it has a bad defensive typing and is frail even with Intimidate. However, Mega Manectric can still Intimidate the foe and then use Volt Switch to gain momentum by switching to another Pokemon that can deal with the foe's weakened attacks. Instead of trying to unsuccessfully break through walls, Mega Manectric should use Volt Switch to switch to a teammate that can break through the opposing Pokemon. If the opponent has an Electric immunity, be careful when using STAB attacks because Manectric is unlikely to OHKO most Ground-types with Hidden Power Ice if they switch into an Electric-type attack, and Mega Manectric will be KOed in return. Bringing Mega Manectric in before entry hazards have been removed is generally a bad idea because it will easily get worn down by them and, when combined with constant damage from status, left susceptible to priority such as Weavile's Ice Shard. Team Options Mega Manectric forms a great VoltTurn core with most Electric-types. It can apply constant pressure by pivoting into wallbreaking teammates such as Thundurus and Magnezone with Volt Switch. Magnezone is an invaluable teammate because, with Choice Specs, it can break through walls that Mega Manectric cannot and also 2HKOes Mega Venusaur with Flash Cannon. Life Orb Thundurus is a good partner because it can cripple faster threats to Mega Manectric with Prankster Thunder Wave. Thundurus can also use Grass Knot, which hits most Ground-type Pokemon relatively hard, or use a physical set to help beat the Porygon2 plus Chansey core. Thundurus and Mega Manectric can also allow one of them to sweep by the other weakening their similar checks. Zapdos is a great partner for Mega Manectric because it is bulky enough to take attacks that are directed at Mega Manectric, especially after Intimidate. Zapdos is immune to Ground-type moves, can Defog the entry hazards that would chip away at it, and can spread status with Toxic, which can break walls Mega Manectric can't such as Gastrodon. Rotom-W has Levitate and can use its STAB Hydro Pump to deal with Ground-type Pokemon that would threaten Mega Manectric, as well as spread burns with Will-O-Wisp while greatly appreciating Mega Manectric's Intimidate. Eelektross has Levitate and is a physical attacker with access to Knock Off and Drain Punch, allowing it to pressure Porygon2 and Chansey.

Moves Thunderbolt is simply Mega Manectric's reliable STAB move. Overheat lets Mega Manectric get quick major damage on Steel- and Grass-types such as Jirachi, Aegislash, and Amoonguss and lets it get the OHKO on Ferrothorn. Hidden Power Ice lets Mega Manectric cover Dragon- and Ground-types such as Hydreigon, Latios, and Landorus-T. Protect shields Mega Manectric from attacks, letting it safely Mega Evolve, stall out field conditions such as Trick Room, and position as needed. Set Details Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment and a Timid nature are used in order to maximize Mega Manectric's offensive potential and let it outrun Mega Gengar. Lightning Rod is the selected ability in order to let Manectric provide some utility and possibly nab a Special Attack boost pre-Mega. Usage Tips Mega Manectric should mostly be used as a last-hitter of foes that are in KO range, as, while it is fast, it is also quite frail. Thanks to its Speed and wide coverage, Mega Manectric does well as a cleaner late-game when most foes are already weakened. It can also provide support by threatening KOs on numerous faster foes that ordinarily would be threats to its teammates; an example is it threatening a Keldeo that's pressuring a Heatran partner. While it does have Intimidate to support teammates with, it should be utilized carefully, as Mega Manectric can't take many hits due to its frailty. It can also use its Lightning Rod ability pre-Mega in order to protect teammates from Electric-type attacks and nab a boost; still, it should Mega Evolve as soon as possible because its base 105 Speed leaves it threatened by a good number of foes. Team Options Teammates that can effectively deal with Landorus-T are strongly recommended; Kyurem-B and Water-types such as Keldeo and Rotom-W can all KO it with their respective STAB moves. Spread attackers are also good teammates because they can efficiently weaken an opposing team enough for Mega Manectric to be able to KO effectively; Volcanion and Heatran can do good damage with Heat Wave, Sylveon can hit hard with Hyper Voice, and Terrakion can effectively spread damage around with Rock Slide. Landorus-T can also work, but using both can bring the team a deadly weakness to Bisharp, which can take advantage of the duo's Intimidates. Talonflame is also an effective partner, as they can effectively form a one-two punch that can finish off foes with ease with their high Speed and power.

Moves Volt Switch allows Mega Manectric to Intimidate shuffle and reset its stat reductions from Overheat. Thunderbolt, a stronger alternative, can be handy as it doesn't switch Mega Manectric out; it is also an option over Overheat, should Mega Manectric not need the Fire-type coverage. Hidden Power Ice allows Mega Manectric to hit Ground-types, mainly Garchomp and Landorus-T. Overheat is the preferred Fire-type coverage move because it has more power than Flamethrower and has nice synergy with Mega Manectric's role as a hit-and-run Pokemon. However, Flamethrower allows Mega Manectric to stay in and attack. Protect is mandatory because it allows Manectric to gain the Speed boost from its Mega Evolution. Set Details Maximum Speed EVs with a Timid nature are used to take advantage of Mega Manectric's good Speed tier. 244 Special Attack EVs are used because a fast, frail attacker like Mega Manectric prefers having max Speed. 12 HP EVs allow Mega Manectric to always survive a spread reduced Earthquake from a -1 maximum Attack Choice Scarf Adamant Landorus-T and retaliate with an OHKO via Hidden Power Ice. A Timid nature is preferred because Mega Manectric prefers higher Speed, however a Modest nature could be used to increase Mega Manectric's damage output. Lightning Rod is the preferred ability because it allows Mega Manectric to switch into opposing Electric-type attacks and gain a Special Attack boost. Usage Tips Mega Manectric performs as a hit-and-run Pokemon. Hit your opponent with a strong attack and Volt Switch out when there is a Pokemon that threatens Mega Manectric. This works really well with Intimidate, as it allows Mega Manectric to Intimidate shuffle and cripple the opponent's physical attackers. There are times when delaying its Mega Evolution is better because Lightning Rod can redirect potential Electric-type attacks aimed at Mega Manectric's partners. Mega Manectric doesn't have the bulk that most Intimidate users have, so it cannot switch into many attacks. Team Options Mega Manectric has nice synergy with Water-types such as Gyarados. Gyarados checks Rotom-H and Ground-types while also forming a nice Intimidate core with Mega Manectric. Mega Manectric can switch into Electric-type attacks aimed at Gyarados and gain a free boost due to Lightning Rod. Mega Manectric can also check bulky Water-types that Gyarados has trouble beating. Milotic can check the same Pokemon that Gyarados checks while also discouraging Landorus-T from being sent out due to Milotic's Competitive ability. Talonflame can help break through Venusaur, Amoonguss, and common Assault Vest users such as Conkeldurr and Ludicolo and benefits from Mega Manectric's ability to remove most bulky Water-types. Landorus-T, despite being a Ground-type itself, synergizes really well with Mega Manectric, as it can switch into Ground-type attacks aimed at Mega Manectric while being able to force out Pokemon that Mega Manectric has trouble hitting for massive damage, such as Rotom-H and Heatran. Mega Manectric, in turn, checks bulky Water-types that Landorus-T has trouble hitting and Ferrothorn with its Fire-type coverage move.

Moves Thunderbolt is powerful enough to get many 2HKOs on frail Pokemon along with getting rid of Flying- and Water-types. Volt Switch allows for Mega Manectric to get some damage off against the foe before switching out. This is rather helpful against physical attackers when combined with Intimidate, as you can then send out a wall. Overheat is a very powerful Fire-type move and has nice coverage against Grass-, Ice-, and Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Mega Glalie, and Scizor. Flamethrower can be used as an alternative to Overheat, which forces Mega Manectric to use Volt Switch or switch out after a -2 drop in Special Attack. While Flamethrower may not cripple Manectric the same way Overheat does, it should be noted that Flamethrower is a weaker Fire-type move, which means Aegislash can avoid a 2HKO. Hidden Power Ice targets Dragon- and Ground-types such as Dragonite, Hydreigon, and Landorus-T and can possibly OHKO non-specially defensive Garchomp and Mega Salamence. Set Details Manectite allows Manectric to Mega Evolve into Mega Manectric, boosting its Speed and Special Attack along with granting it Intimidate. This is very useful when going against a physical attacker. Lightning Rod gives Manectric immunity to Electric-type moves, allowing it to switch into a predicted Electric-type move and gain a boost in Special Attack. This allows Manectric to OHKO threats such as Mega Salamence and Garchomp after Mega Evolving. A Timid nature is used to outspeed base 100 Speed Pokemon before mega evolution, along with Talonflame and Greninja after mega evolution. It also lets Mega Manectric Speed tie with Mega Lopunny. A Modest nature can be used for more damage; it gives Mega Manectric a higher chance to OHKO uninvested Mega Salamence and Garchomp than a Timid nature does. Hidden Power Ice 2HKOes Hydreigon with a Modest nature, while Timid loses the guaranteed 2HKO. As a cost of using Modest nature, Mega Manectric will lose out on its chance to outspeed Mega Gengar, Mega Salamence, Mega Blaziken, and Greninja, so Timid nature is often preferred. The remaining EVs are invested in Special Defense to prevent Porygon2 and Porygon-Z from getting an increase in Special Attack from their ability, Download. Usage Tips Mega Manectric is better off as a lead Pokemon because of its Speed and access to Volt Switch. This allows it to hit-and-run against powerful threats that can easily KO it. Also, it can assist with breaking any Focus Sash the foe might hold. It should be noted that Manectric should always Mega Evolve as soon as it is out on the field to take advantage of Mega Manectric's increased base stats. Do not switch Mega Manectric in continuously while entry hazards are out on the field because it lacks recovery and its bulk isn't very good. Do not keep Mega Manectric in on special walls because it's a wasted effort, as it can't KO Pokemon such as Chansey and Cresselia. Remember that when Manectric Mega Evolves into Mega Manectric, it doesn't get a huge boost in bulk; it is still frail, so it should avoid getting hit by any attack in general. Even though Mega Manectric can work great as a lead, it needs to watch out for common leads such as Garchomp; Garchomp's Earthquake can still OHKO Mega Manectric even after Intimidate, and although it has Hidden Power Ice to hit Garchomp for a lot of damage, the latter often carries a Focus Sash and will survive the attack anyway. Team Options Gyarados is a great partner because it can switch in from Mega Manectric and get an extra Intimidate off on physical attackers. Gyarados's Flying typing gives it immunity to Ground-type moves and provides resistance to Bug-, Fighting-, Fire-, and Water-type moves. Despite having a 4x weakness to Electric-type moves, Mega Manectric can switch in on a predicted Electric move and get a boost in Special Attack from Lightning Rod before Mega Evolving. Landorus-T is immune to any Ground-type move and can act as a double Intimidate user to soften attacks. It can also help form a VoltTurn core as well. Latios and Latias are both immune to Ground-type attacks because of Levitate. Latios can use a Choice Scarf to outspeed Choice Scarf Garchomp and OHKO it with its Dragon-type STAB moves. Talonflame can assist in getting rid of Fighting-types with its STAB Flying-type moves. It also has access to Will-O-Wisp for punishing physical attackers, which can be combined with Mega Manectric's Intimidate. Also, they both can form a VoltTurn core, just like with Landorus-T. Dragonite can be used to set up Dragon Dance on physical attackers after an Intimidate from Mega Manectric. Hydreigon is immune to Cresselia's Psychic attacks and resists Aegislash's Shadow Ball, and can hit both of these Pokemon hard with Dark Pulse.

Manectric has all of the qualities necessary to be a solid Choice Scarf user. Equipped with a momentum-building move, Switcheroo, and the ability to revenge kill serious threats that few other Choice Scarf users can, Manectric is the best example of an "insurance" Pokemon for offensive teams to use. Volt Switch allows Manectric to build or maintain offensive momentum while scouting for possible checks and counters. Overheat is an incredibly useful tool for Manectric, as it OHKOes +1 Lilligant, something almost no other Choice Scarf user can do without taking a hit first. Thunderbolt is a great cleaning move for Manectric and also allows it to use a STAB move and stay on the field if the need arises. Switcheroo rounds out the set and allows Manectric to cripple an opposing wall that it might have difficulty beating otherwise, such as Rhydon or Clefable. Lightning Rod should always be used as it grants Manectric an immunity to all Electric-type moves, including Thunder Wave. The resulting Special Attack boost can even aid a possible late-game sweep. Hidden Power Grass can be used to deal with Rock Polish Rhydon and Golurk, but both are quite rare and Golurk is hit just as hard by Overheat. Hidden Power Ice is an option if Druddigon is really annoying you, but it will fail to 2HKO most variants. Flamethrower can be used over Overheat if you find yourself using Switcheroo a lot, and if you don't like the Special Attack drop that is caused by Overheat. However, you must be wary that Flamethrower misses the OHKO on +1 Lilligant, a major target that Manectric can KO with Overheat. As mentioned previously, Manectric is more of an "insurance" Pokemon to use when threats get out of control, so it doesn't require a lot of support to function at optimal capacity. Manectric has a hard time with Druddigon, as even Switcheroo will only limit Druddigon's effectiveness. For this reason, Steel-types such as Aggron and Escavalier make for good partners to sponge its powerful Dragon-type attacks while immediately threatening Druddigon with their STAB moves. Rapid Spin support is welcome as it will let Manectric use Volt Switch with much more freedom. Kabutops fits the bill nicely as it can lure in Electric-type moves for Manectric to switch in on. Cryogonal isn't bad either as it's immune to Ground-type moves, but it does struggle against the most common spinblocker in the tier, Spiritomb. Mesprit is a solid partner, in particular its Choice Specs set. Mesprit is immune to Ground-type moves and can quickly weaken the special walls that may try to stop Manectric from revenge killing or going on a late-game sweep with Choice Specs-boosted Psyshocks. Manectric also functions well on VoltTurn teams. Braviary, Rotom-C, Eelektross, and the aforementioned Mesprit can all use either Volt Switch or U-turn if you choose to use a VoltTurn core.

This set aims to capitalize on Manectric's great coverage and solid Speed to turn it into a wallbreaker that can still pose a legitimate sweeping threat with its base 105 Speed and Special Attack. Volt Switch is Manectric's main STAB move on this set, as it allows Manectric to scout out how the opponent wants to play against it, thus giving you an advantage the next time Manectric comes in. Flamethrower is used for its consistency and lack of Special Attack drops. It allows Manectric to easily get past the likes of Ferroseed, Steelix, and Tangrowth, all of which may come in to take Manectric's Electric-type STAB moves. Thunderbolt provides Manectric with a reliable STAB move that allows it to stay in and clean up late-game when the chance arises. In the last slot, a Hidden Power type needs to be chosen. Due to how common Druddigon is, Hidden Power Ice is generally preferred to allow Manectric to 2HKO all but specially defensive variants of Druddigon. However, Hidden Power Grass is an option to OHKO Rhydon, a serious threat that can easily demolish Manectric otherwise. The item choice is a tough one, but the ability to switch moves and bluff a Choice item with Expert Belt is generally preferred. Choice Specs is still a solid option for the significant power boost Manectric gains, especially on bulkier targets it can't hit for super effective damage, such as Uxie, Spiritomb, and Mesprit. Life Orb might seem like a middle ground of sorts, but it wears down Manectric way too quickly. Overheat and Switcheroo are two options to consider if you use Choice Specs. Overheat can destroy Cryogonal, but it has little use outside of that. Switcheroo can cripple walls, but Manectric can just as easily use Expert Belt, or even Life Orb, to break them down with its great coverage. This set is one of the best Regenerator core killers in the entire tier, so Pokemon that appreciate not having to deal with these types of Pokemon are great teammates. Fire-types such as Emboar and Entei enjoy having Slowking and Alomomola removed from play so they can use their powerful STAB moves with more freedom. Kabutops provides Rapid Spin support, draws in Electric-type moves, and enjoys not having to deal with Tangrowth and Ferroseed. Fighting-types such as Gallade and Hitmonlee are more than capable of taking out Clefable and Cryogonal, which can open the door for Manectric to sweep late-game. Rhydon can be a pretty big pain for this set if Manectric lacks Hidden Power Grass, so having something that can take its powerful moves can be helpful. For this reason, Torterra can be a pretty solid partner as it resists Ground-type moves and it appreciates having Tangrowth removed since it matches up well against most other defensive Pokemon in the tier. Manectric still performs well on VoltTurn teams, so pairing it with Pokemon such as Braviary and Mesprit can be worthwhile. Braviary appreciates Manectric's ability to remove most Steel-type Pokemon while Choice Specs Mesprit can easily break down special walls, such as Clefable and Lanturn, with its STAB Psyshock.

Thunderbolt is Manectric's most reliable STAB move, and also has a useful paralysis chance. Overheat destroys most Grass- and Steel-types, but the drop in Special Attack drastically reduces Manectric's offensive clout, meaning Flamethrower is a viable alternative; it is much weaker, but is more reliable as it maintains its Base Power and still does reasonable damage to the aforementioned Grass- and Steel-types. Hidden Power Ice is the preferred option for the third moveslot as it provides valuable coverage on Dragon- and Ground-types, but Hidden Power Grass can be used so that Manectric isn't walled cold by Gastrodon. Protect is, as always, helpful in VGC as it enables Manectric to save itself from an attack, provide an opening for your partner, or scout for whatever move your opponent will use. Due to Manectric's frailty, Focus Sash is the item of choice as it guarantees that Manectric will be able to attack for at least two turns, but Life Orb is usable if you prefer the extra power it delivers. The EV spread simply maximizes Manectric's Special Attack and Speed, with a Timid nature being used as it allows Manectric to outpace a majority of threats in VGC, such as Garchomp, but you can run Modest if you prefer the extra power and have a means of countering these fast threats. In case you decide to use Hidden Power Grass, you should shift 4 EVs from Special Attack to Defense to compensate for a Special Attack IV of 30, as 248 Special Attack EVs round up to the same Special Attack value as it would if it had 252 EVs. Also, the extra 4 EVs in Defense gives Manectric a slightly better chance of surviving most priority moves. Lightning Rod is useful for teams that are weak to Electric-types and Thunder Wave, as Manectric can draw their STAB moves toward itself for a free special attack boost. Due to this benefit, Water- and Flying-types such as Gyarados enjoy having Manectric as a partner, as its presence eliminates one of their main weaknesses, while they can in return aid Manectric by clearing out the Ground- and Grass-types that give it trouble. You can also pair up Manectric with a Volt Absorb user such as Jolteon, and they can both spam Discharge to benefit each other while having a good chance to paralyze both targets. Thundurus makes a good partner too as it is immune to Ground-type attacks, and by being faster than Manectric, it can use Discharge to give Manectric a Lightning Rod boost before it moves. Zapdos makes a good partner as well for the same reason, but it also has access to Tailwind to ensure that both Manectric and itself can outspeed faster threats such as Terrakion, Thundurus, and Latios.

Due to its ability to outspeed all other common Choice Scarf users and revenge kill setup sweepers like Dragon Dance Whiscash and Charizard, Rock Polish Rhydon, and Vileplume and neutral Speed nature Victreebel under sun, Manectric is an excellent Choice Scarf user in NU. Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, and Hidden Power Grass are needed to eliminate the Pokemon listed above and provide good coverage overall. Overheat isn't a good move to be locked into to due to the Special Attack drop, but it can prove to be very useful if you happen to need the additional power to take out opposing Meganium or Vileplume. Switcheroo cripples common defensive answers to Manectric, including Cradily, Lickilicky, and Hypno. Manectric needs as much Speed and Special Attack investment as possible in order to fulfill its job. This variant is able to hinder Cradily, Camerupt, Nidoqueen, Lickilicky, and Hypno with Switcheroo, which is greatly appreciated by Offensive Pokemon such as Tauros, Magmortar, and Charizard. However, Manectric still fears Sucker Punch from Shiftry and Skuntank, the latter of which can also punish it with Pursuit if it attempts to switch out. Thus, Vileplume and Nidoqueen make for good partners. While this variant can cripple most of Manectric's initial switch-ins, it also benefits from wallbreakers like Medicham and Pinsir getting them out of the way for Manectric to spam Thunderbolt more freely.

Thunderbolt is a reliable STAB move that hits Slowking, arguably the most common special wall in the tier, super effectively. Flamethrower invalidates Magneton, Vileplume, and Meganium as answers to Manectric, as well as less common Pokemon like Piloswine and Regice. Overheat is an alternative that hits much harder at the cost of essentially forcing Manectric out afterwards. It has some notable merits, such as OHKOing most Vileplume variants. The third slot is dedicated to hitting Ground-types as hard as possible. Hidden Power Grass OHKOes Whiscash, Quagsire, and Rhydon, all of which would wall Manectric otherwise and use it as setup fodder in the case of Whiscash, whereas Hidden Power Ice OHKOes Gligar and is Manectric's best way to damage Nidoqueen and Cradily. Finally, Substitute allows you to play around Sucker Punch users like Skuntank and Shiftry and ease predictions on switch-ins. Charge Beam, while unreliable, can boost Manectric's Special Attack, making it more threatening, but you generally won't find too many opportunities to use it. Manectric's EV spread aims to maximize its Speed and damage output, the latter of which is further enhanced by Life Orb. However, Expert Belt can be considered if you don't want Manectric to be worn down too quickly by recoil and the use of Substitute. Just like many frail offensive Pokemon, Manectric has a hard time getting onto the field safely. This is why you should use it as a revenge killer to pressure slower Pokemon like Charizard, punish predicted switch-ins, or force Pokemon like Slowking to use recovery moves. Due to Manectric's tendency to attract Ground-types that use it as Stealth Rock bait like Camerupt and Nidoqueen, spinners like Hitmonchan and Sandslash make for good partners. Other dangerous Pokemon that can take advantage of them like Charizard, Sharpedo, and Drifblim are teammates of choice as well. Other special walls like Cradily and Lickilicky are troublesome for Manectric, so strong physical attackers like Medicham, Pinsir, and Poliwrath can be considered. Finally, Manectric is forced out by faster threats like Tauros and Floatzel and by strong priority users like Skuntank and Shiftry, especially if it's not running Substitute. Thus, having some defensive presence from a Pokemon like Cradily, Vileplume, or Meganium is advised.

Manectric's fantastic Speed, exceptional type coverage, and above-average Special Attack make it a natural candidate for a Life Orb set. Thunderbolt is the primary option and main draw of this set, being one of the most potent STAB attacks in the game. Flamethrower and Hidden Power Grass complement Thunderbolt well by hitting Pokemon who can safely take a hit from it; the former hits Registeel, Steelix, and Grass-types such as Venusaur and Torterra, while the latter hits Lanturn and Ground-types including Rhyperior, Claydol, and Donphan. Charge Beam rounds off the set by providing Manectric with a means of raising its Special Attack for greater offensive potential. Overheat is a viable alternative to Flamethrower despite lowering Special Attack, as its incredible Base Power can secure some important KOs which would otherwise be impossible with Flamethrower. For example, a combination of Thunderbolt and Overheat has a high chance of OHKOing specially defensive Venusaur after Stealth Rock damage, while Registeel takes a minimum of 78% (factoring in Leftovers recovery) when switching into Charge Beam followed by a +1 Overheat. In general, Overheat is useful for hit-and-run approaches rather than sweeping. Substitute can replace Charge Beam in the final slot to minimize prediction and protect Manectric from status and revenge killers. It will also make your opponent think twice before switching in Dugtrio in an attempt to trap and OHKO Manectric with Earthquake. Expert Belt is an alternative item option, as it allows Manectric to bluff a Choice item and increases its survivability. This is especially handy when running Substitute, as Life Orb's recoil in conjunction with Substitute will whittle down Manectric's health in no time. While these are good perks, Life Orb is still the superior option in most cases due to its greater power and consistency. Hidden Power Ice can be used over Hidden Power Grass to hit Altaria, Torterra, Nidoqueen, and Nidoking harder while still maintaining coverage on Ground-types; however, this allows Rhyperior, Lanturn, and Quagsire to completely stop Manectric in its tracks. Chansey, Clefable, and Registeel are among the most common counters to Manectric thanks to their high Special Defense and ability to cripple with status or recover health. Pokemon such as Rhyperior, Hitmonlee, and Torterra make ideal teammates for Manectric due to their Thunder Wave immunity while also appreciating the free switch-in to wreck havoc. Dugtrio is another option to handle them, being able to trap and 2HKO all three with Earthquake, which allows Manectric to sweep more easily. Specially defensive Venusaur and Torterra counter this set effectively, stalling out Life Orb's recoil with Synthesis (although they must be wary of Overheat). Likewise, specially defensive Arcanine can take Thunderbolt well, recover with Morning Sun, and hit back with Extreme Speed. Uxie, with a Ground immunity and amazing defenses to sponge priority attacks, is a valuable teammate who can also set up Stealth Rock and use Yawn + U-turn to allow Manectric to switch in safely. Weezing, Altaria, and Mesprit are similar options for this role who can also switch into the aforementioned Grass-types. This set definitely appreciates Spikes support. It's a highly valuable weapon to wear down all of Manectric's usual counters, turning some important 3HKOs into 2HKOs. Qwilfish can set up Spikes in the lead position for offensive momentum, while defensively Omastar can take advantage of Chansey and Registeel switch-ins for setup opportunities. Of course, this comes with the need to carry a spinblocker; Mismagius's Ground-type immunity and tendency to lure Manectric's counters makes it one of the best options. With Manectric taking Life Orb's recoil and being vulnerable to entry hazards, Rapid Spin support from Pokemon such as Donphan or Hitmontop is certainly handy to help it survive longer.

105 base Special Attack and Speed, access to important coverage with access to important coverage moves, and Switcheroo to hinder special walls that try to sponge his attacks all enable Manectric to run a Choice Specs set well. This set is best used with a hit-and-run strategy in mind and for revenge killing. Manectric can also disrupt the opponent's strategy with Switcheroo and potentially cripple one of his or her Pokemon. Thunderbolt is Manectric's primary STAB attack and does serious damage to anything that doesn't resist it. Access to both Overheat and Flamethrower separate Manectric from its fellow Electric-types, as they allow him to hit Grass-, Steel-, Ice-, and Bug-type Pokemon for super effective damage. Overheat is the better option over two turns if you don't mind the Special Attack drop; however, Flamethrower is more accurate and won't drop the power of Manectric's other moves, which is relevant once you have used Switcheroo. Hidden Power Grass is used to round off Manectric's coverage by allowing him to hit 8 types for super effective damage and everything else for neutral damage. An alternative Hidden Power type could be used here if you have a special need for it on your team. Switcheroo allows Manectric to cripple potential counters, most notably Clefable, Registeel, and Chansey, by handing them Manectric's Choice Specs. The EVs are self-explanatory; Speed and Special Attack are maximized to make the best use of Manectric's potential, while 4 EVs are placed in Special Defense so that the rare Download Porygon2 doesn't get a Special Attack boost. Alternatively, you can run 216 Speed to outrun positive base 100 Speed Pokemon, only losing the ability to Speed tie other Manectric, Scyther, and Mismagius. This will allow you to put 32 EVs into HP, which is a Life Orb number--that is, if Manectric picks one up with Switcheroo. A Timid nature is necessary on this set, as otherwise the many positive base 95 Speed Pokemon in UU will outrun Manectric. Choice Specs Manectric really appreciates Rapid Spin support due to its frailness and how often it will be switching in and out. Like all sweepers, entry hazard support is also helpful for securing KOs. Claydol makes a great partner since it is immune to Manectric's Ground-type weakness, absorbs Thunder Wave, has access to Rapid Spin, and can set up Stealth Rock. Bulky Blastoise can come in on most Ground-types, threaten them with a STAB Water-type attack, and Rapid Spin entry hazards away. Blaziken is an excellent offensive partner for Manectric because it eliminates the special walls that Manectric has trouble with, while Manectric can threaten Milotic and other Water-types in return.

This set is fairly self explanatory. You want to have your HP divisible by 4 so you only need three Substitutes to reach 25%, and when you do, Petaya Berry activates. Proceed to sweep with boosted Special Attack and a nice Speed to boot. Thunderbolt almost everything in sight, Crunch is for Pokemon such as Hypno and Grumpig that can usually wall you if you don't have a super effective attack. The choice of Hidden Power can be a tad tough though. Hidden Power Grass is so you don't get totally walled by Lanturn and Quagsire, and so you can use it on Golem. Hidden Power Ice will hit Gligar however, and now it doesn't get walled by Meganium and other Grass Pokemon. Hidden Power Water hits Gligar harder than Crunch, but not as hard as Hidden Power Ice, as well as being your best bet against Camerupt.
