Set Details Toxic allows Quagsire to threaten Flying-types such as Noivern and Yanmega while also helping wear down Pokemon such as Gastrodon and Swampert. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Quagsire to ignore chip damage from entry hazards that might otherwise overwhelm it, while Leftovers accentuates Quagsire's longevity by giving it passive healing. Unaware allows Quagsire to ignore offensive stat boosts from Pokemon such as Terrakion, Bisharp, and Rhyperior while also ignoring defensive stat boosts from Pokemon such as Registeel and Chesnaught in order to hit them harder, though it has the downside of ignoring stat drops such as the ones Hisuian Goodra's and Noivern's Draco Meteors cause. Tera Poison allows Quagsire to resist the Grass-type moves aimed at it from Pokemon such as Breloom and Comfey, helps it check Fighting-types such as Flamigo and Terrakion, makes its own Toxic 100% accurate, and allows it to become immune to Toxic from Umbreon and Amoonguss. Tera Fairy gives Quagsire a Fighting resist whilst not leaving it weak to Ground letting it check Torterra, and not leaving it vulnerable to Ground-type attacks like from Choiced Krookodile after it Terastallizes. Quagsire fits best on bulky offense and balance teams, where it can be paired with other defensive Pokemon like Chesnaught and Chansey to help wall large amounts of the metagame. Wo-Chien pairs really well with Quagsire, as it can use Knock Off in order to help Quagsire's Spikes stacking while also switching into Pokemon such as Basculegion-F and Hisuian Goodra that threaten out Quagsire. In return, Quagsire can switch into Pokemon such as Entei and Flamigo that can threaten out Wo-Chien. Poison-immune Pokemon such as Amoonguss and Alolan Muk pair well with Quagsire, as they can not only take on the Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Hisuian Liligant that threaten it immensely but also take Toxic from Pokemon such as Umbreon and opposing Amoonguss, which Quagsire would otherwise have to Terastallize for. Specially defensive Pokemon such as Cyclizar, Chansey, and Umbreon pair well with Quagsire, as they can take on the special wallbreakers such as Reuniclus and Gengar that threaten it, while in return, Quagsire can take on Pokemon such as Bisharp and Mimikyu that threaten them. Wallbreakers such as Mamoswine and Armarouge appreciate Quagsire's chip damage helping wear down their checks. Stealth Rock setters such as Registeel and Jirachi can form entry hazard-stacking cores with Quagsire, which can heavily chip down foes.

Quagsire is a notable physical wall thanks to its ability Unaware, which allows it to ignore boosts from setup sweepers like Salamence and Scizor. Toxic puts many notable Pokemon in the tier on a timer such as Hippowdon and Gastrodon. Quagsire ideally wants Spikes over Stealth Rock to force more chip damage on potential switch-ins; however, Stealth Rock is fine as an alternative if none of its other teammates can afford to fit it into their moveset. Alternatively, Ice Beam with a Relaxed nature allows Quagsire to 2HKO Hawlucha after Stealth Rock and lets it beat Substitute + Dragon Dance Tera Flying Tyranitars. The passive recovery of Leftovers allows Quagsire to check Choice Band Tyranitar and Mimikyu more easily; however, if the team can not fit entry hazard removal, Heavy-Duty Boots is much more appealing. Quagsire only uses Terastallization defensively to check certain dangerous offensive threats. Tera Poison grants Quagsire a perfectly accurate Toxic and a poison immunity while also allowing it to handle Grass-types and offensive threats that use Grass-type moves such as Tsareena, Trailblaze Scizor, and Seed Bomb Pawmot. Tera Ghost allows Quagsire to beat Maushold by becoming immune to Population Bomb as well as check Slither Wing and Lucario more easily. Tera Ghost also has the added benefit of letting Quagsire serve as a spinblocker against spinners such as Tsareena. Quagsire primarily fits on balance, stall, and bulky offense teams as a defensive glue that holds these teams together. Common teammates for Quagsire include Stealth Rock setters such as Tinkaton and Tyranitar, which can allow Quagsire to run Spikes. Both can check Gengar, special Salamence, and Iron Jugulis, which pose a threat to Quagsire. Tinkaton can also use Knock Off on Heavy-Duty Boots users such as Sticky Hold Gastrodon, Scream Tail, and Wo-Chien to rack up more damage from Quagsire's Spikes. Scream Tail is another Pokemon that complements Quagsire, as it is able to handle special Salamence as well as Gallade, while Quagsire is able to keep Bisharp and non-Trailblaze Scizor in check. Talonflame is another ideal partner for Quagsire as it can check Tsareena and Giga Drain variants of Wo-Chien. Blissey on stall teams is also a strong partner for Quagsire by virtue of walling almost every special attacker in the tier such as Iron Jugulis, Noivern, and Sandy Shocks.

Quagsire is an excellent wall and entry hazard setter in Ubers UU, as it has Unaware, a solid defensive typing, and a vast utility movepool, allowing it to check setup sweepers like Roaring Moon and Zacian. Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Toxic Spikes allow Quagsire to support its team with hazards, reducing the team's passivity and forcing chip damage on key threats like Palkia-O and Ogerpon-H. Toxic allows Quagsire to put opposing threats such as Zacian and Great Tusk on a timer. Unaware allows Quagsire to stifle setup sweepers like Swords Dance Zacian and Dragon Dance Arceus-Poison while also allowing it to handle Nasty Plot Mewtwo fairly well. Tera Poison allows Quagsire to handle Fairy- and Grass-type attacks from Pokemon like Zacian and Arceus-Grass, respectively, while also keeping it safe from Poison. Quagsire appreciates help from special walls like Blissey and specially defensive Magearna, as they can patch up its weaker Special Defense, and they fit well alongside it on stall and balance teams, handling threats like Arceus-Dark, Palkia-O, and Dialga. Dragon- and Steel-types like Arceus-Dragon and Skarmory also pair well with Quagsire, as they can relieve it of entry hazard setting duty while also switching in on Grass-types like Rillaboom and Ogerpon formes. Quagsire enables offensive threats like Zacian, Arceus-Poison, and Deoxys with its hazard setting, putting their checks, such as Arceus-Poison and Giratina, into KO range of their attacks.

Quagsire is a decent choice on Water teams thanks to its good bulk, access to Recover, useful typing, and ability to get Spikes up against threats that it walls, like Iron Defense + Body Press Zamazenta, Dragon Dance Roaring Moon, and Iron Hands. Toxic lets Quagsire force progress on defensive Pokemon and offensive switch-ins such as Meowscarada, Latios, and the Ogerpon formes, which in conjunction with Spikes racks up a significant amount of chip damage on opposing teams over time. Spikes can wear down threatening special attackers that force out Quagsire like Ursaluna-BM and Choice Specs Flutter Mane. Alternatively, Stealth Rock can be run if Quagsire has no teammates setting it up. Heavy-Duty Boots lets Quagsire ignore treacherous entry hazards such as Spikes and Toxic Spikes, which can easily wear it down over the course of a game. Leftovers let Quagsire passively regenerate HP, which can help it conserve Recover PP. Alternatively, Rocky Helmet lets Quagsire punish common physical attacks, such as IronPress Zamazenta's Body Press and Choice Scarf Roaring Moon's U-turn, and wear down said opponents over time in conjunction with Toxic and Spikes. Toxapex is a good teammate for Quagsire, as it complements Quagsire's defensive typing well, being able to take on Grass-types like Meowscarada while Quagsire handles Electric-types like Iron Hands. Ogerpon-W and Greninja appreciate Quagsire giving them extra chip damage to force progress against answers like Archaludon and Iron Hands, respectively, with Spikes. Primarina and Keldeo appreciate Quagsire being able to scare off Poison-types like Alolan Muk, allowing them to set up, while Spikes forces very handy damage onto their answers. In return, Primarina can switch in on Dragon-types like special attacking Dragapult. Empoleon provides a nice Grass neutrality and Fairy resistance to the team, letting it take on threats like Hydrapple and Hatterene, alongside being a specially defensive tank that pairs nicely with Quagsire's Electric immunity and physical bulk. It also sets up Stealth Rock to form an entry hazard-stacking core alongside Quagsire.

Quagsire is a great option for Ground teams due to its physical bulk and Unaware, checking a wide range of physical attackers like Hisuian Samurott, Cetitan, and Choice Scarf Urshifu-R. Stealth Rock or Spikes wears down threats like Greninja, Iron Valiant, and Meowscarada. Toxic allows Quagsire to further wither down opponents alongside the entry hazards, notably putting Dragonite, Ting-Lu, and Great Tusk on a timer. Leftovers grants Quagsire passive recovery, improving its longevity and ability to repeatedly take hits more reliably. Meanwhile, Heavy-Duty Boots prevents detrimental entry hazards from wearing it down, allowing it to freely pivot. Rocky Helmet punishes multi-hit moves such as Urshifu-R's Surging Strikes and Weavile's Triple Axel as well as Roaring Moon, Hisuian Samurott, and Cinderace attempting to pivot. Quagsire's ability to wall setup sweepers like Dragonite and Ceruledge is heavily appreciated by its teammates. Water Absorb Clodsire switches into attacks from Greninja, Walking Wake, and Ogerpon-W while also contributing to entry hazard stacking via Toxic Spikes. Iron Treads removes entry hazards with Rapid Spin should Quagsire forgo Heavy-Duty Boots and checks Fairy-types like Hatterene and Flutter Mane. Great Tusk, Garchomp, and Landorus value Quagsire's entry hazards, which aid in their wallbreaking. Choice Scarf Great Tusk checks Choice Specs Flutter Mane, Greninja, and Hoopa-U while removing held items from Mandibuzz, Brambleghast, and Tornadus-T to make them more susceptible to Quagsire's entry hazards. Garchomp threatens Steel-types like Corviknight, Skarmory, and Air Balloon Gholdengo with its Fire-type coverage. Landorus checks the Ogerpon formes with Sludge Wave when using a Choice Scarf set and can utilize Rock Slide to catch Volcarona and Moltres off-guard. Ting-Lu and Quagsire make a great entry hazard-stacking core, as Ting-Lu is able to phaze opponents out with Whirlwind as well as check special attackers such as Latios, Gholdengo, and Raging Bolt. Mamoswine appreciates Quagsire's entry hazards; in return, it can fend off Ice-types such as Alolan Ninetales and Articuno while also threatening Meowscarada, Enamorus, Gliscor, and Landorus. Gliscor aids in setting up entry hazards and spreading Toxic poison while also being able to switch into opposing Toxic for Quagsire. Additionally, Gliscor provides Knock Off support to better accentuate the team's entry hazard setting while threatening opposing Gliscor and Gholdengo with its Swords Dance set.

Set Details Earthquake and Toxic synergize perfectly with each other, as the Poison- and Steel-types immune to Toxic are often weak to Earthquake, which allows Quagsire to exert some offensive pressure even as a defensive Pokemon. Protect can be used in favor of Scald to rack up as much poison damage as possible, which is extremely helpful in whittling down threats such as Rotom-C and Decidueye. 68 Special Defense EVs allow it to deal with Salazzle and Choice Scarf Heliolisk more effectively. Quagsire pairs best with other walls often found on stall teams, which may fall in the face of common stallbreakers such as Tyrantrum, Salazzle, and Drapion. Guzzlord and Escavalier take on Grass-types very nicely for Quagsire and also help make up for its poor Special Defense. Rocky Helmet Xatu and Effect Spore Vileplume can punish powerful wallbreakers like Passimian and Tauros that can overwhelm Quagsire and can switch into Toxic aimed at it. They appreciate Quagsire's Rock and Fire resistances, respectively, while providing additional partners that resist Grass.

Scald is essential for Quagsire, as it burns Grass-types that can switch into its STAB moves like Shiftry and Gourgeist-S. Toxic wears down switch-ins like Whimsicott, Ribombee, and Vikavolt. Curse is another option to provide stall teams with a bulky setup sweeper. Haze is also a good option to prevent setup opportunities from foes like Ribombee and Silvally-Fairy. Heavy-Duty Boots is preferred for its ability to nullify entry hazards, since Quagsire's bulk isn't largely impressive to begin with. Taking 48 EVs from Defense and putting them in Special Defense allows Quagsire to switch into Quiver Dance Ribombee, although it makes it easier to overwhelm on the physical side. Weezing is an outstanding partner for Quagsire, as it provides a Toxic immunity and a switch-in to Grass-types like Trevenant. Audino provides cleric support and appreciates Quagsire's abilities to handle setup sweepers that take advantage of its passiveness, like Sandaconda. Charizard or Articuno makes for a fine Defogger to pair with Quagsire, as entry hazards can severely cripple Quagsire's longevity if it loses its Heavy-Duty Boots.

Quagsire is a reliable wall thanks to its typing and access to Unaware, as it can deal with many physical threats and setup sweepers including Mimikyu, Flygon, and Cloyster. Since it has Unaware, it can afford to be passive and purely focus on not getting KOed, which is different from the playstyles of other bulky Water-types like Gastrodon and Milotic. Toxic hits Flying-types and other walls such as Togekiss or Porygon2, ensuring they do not take advantage of Quagisre's lack of offensive presence. Scald is used to threaten Pokemon such as Steelix and Bronzong and attempt to burn physical attackers such as Mimikyu, Flygon, and Cloyster. Despite being immune to stat changes itself, Quagsire can run Haze in order to beat Stored Power Reuniclus, which can otherwise set up and beat Quagsire one-on-one. Ice Beam can also be run in order to give Grass-types such as Celebi and Roserade a harder time switching in. Curse can be used to turn Quagsire into a late-game sweeper; however, it often struggles due to how vulnerable it is to special attacks. Heavy-Duty Boots are used to ensure entry hazards do not cripple it, which is often crucial since Quagsire's natural bulk isn't good enough to take multiple hits at lower percents. Running Haze over Toxic can also be effective, as Toxic isn't often necessary against what Quagsire checks. Quagsire is primarily used on stall teams because it allows them to not be overwhelmed by setup sweepers. Umbreon is a great partner for Quagsire, as it can tank the special hits that it can't, such as Toxtricity's Boomburst or Chandelure's Shadow Ball. Umbreon also often runs Heal Bell, which helps Quagsire clear any status it might receive from the likes of Metagross, Bronzong, or Raikou. Due to Quagsire's middling bulk, it often cannot deal with stronger wallbreakers of the tier such as Bewear and Guts Heracross; Galarian Weezing is a great choice of teammate, as it can wall these threats. Lucario and Pangoro can both 2HKO Quagsire with Close Combat, so having a Flying-type such as Crobat, Talonflame, or Xatu on the team to eliminate this weakness is helpful. Flying-types also help Quagsire by dealing with Grass-types such as Roserade and Celebi. Registeel also makes for a great partner as it too can wall the aforementioned Grass-types.

Scald has a good chance to burn threats such as Scizor and Tapu Bulu. Earthquake hits Pokemon such as Raikou, Jirachi, and Nihilego. Toxic cripples Pokemon attemping to set up on Quagsire like Thundurus-T as well as defensive walls like Slowking and Tangrowth. Haze is an option to stop setup sweepers such as Galarian Slowbro and Celesteela in their tracks. Heavy-Duty Boots is an option to avoid damage from Spikes and Toxic Spikes; however, Quagsire is already resistant to Stealth Rock, and the passive recovery brought by Leftovers is generally much more appreciated. The given EV spread allows Quagsire to take on special attackers such as Rotom-W more comfortably while maximizing its physical bulk. Quagsire fits best on stall teams, stopping setup sweepers with Unaware. Amoonguss and Tangrowth are excellent partners for Quagsire, as they check Grass-types such as Tapu Bulu and Zarude. Additionally, these Pokemon are able to check wallbreakers that Quagsire struggles with, such as Conkeldurr and Keldeo. Chansey forms a solid defensive core with Quagsire, being able to check special attackers such as Nihilego and Thundurus-T, while Quagsire checks physical threats for it in return. Chansey's Heal Bell also allows it to cure status that easily wear down Quagsire. Umbreon can provide Wish support and counter Gyarados for Quagsire. Salamence can help provide Defog support to remove Spikes for Quagsire. Ditto can provide offensive support and deter wallbreakers like Diggersby and Crawdaunt that Quagsire can't deal with properly.

Quagsire's remarkable defensive typing and Unaware make it a highly valuable piece on very defensive teams. After a high Defense donation, it can wall setup users like Swords Dance Rayquaza, Weavile, and Garchomp and other physically offensive Pokemon like Choice Band Victini and Zeraora. Its Ground typing stops Volt Switch from Pokemon like Rotom-W, Zeraora, and Rotom-H, which helps to prevent the defensive teams Quagsire fits into from being overwhelmed by VoltTurn strategies. Earthquake immediately threatens foes like Galarian Slowking, Volcanion, Victini, and Heatran. Scald prevents physical attackers like Rillaboom, Kartana, Zygarde-10%, and Kyurem-B from safely switching in by threatening a burn. Toxic further spreads passive damage by crippling Pokemon like Ho-Oh, Mewtwo, and Volcarona. Heavy-Duty Boots prevents Quagsire from being overwhelmed by entry hazards, which significantly cut into its walling capabilities. However, Leftovers is a viable alternative if Quagsire's team has sufficient entry hazard removal. Quagsire's defensive qualities and generally passive nature make it a perfect fit for stall teams where Giratina is its Defense donator. Tyranitar and Corviknight can compensate for Quagsire's poor special bulk; the former deals with Yveltal, Galarian Moltres, and Blacephalon, while the latter deals with Tapu Lele and some Mewtwo sets. Corviknight and Skarmory can check problematic Grass-types like Kartana and Rillaboom; they also provide Defog support so Quagsire is less reliant on its Heavy-Duty Boots and can switch into Knock Off users like Landorus-T and Weavile. Skarmory also deals with Swords Dance + Mold Breaker Pangoro, which is one of few setup sweepers able to break through Quagsire. Quagsire checks threatening Electric- and Fire-types like Zeraora, Dracozolt, Rotom-H, and Victini for Skarmory and Corviknight and stops Zamazenta-C, Zygarde-10%, and Excadrill for Tyranitar. Toxic from Gastrodon and Landorus-T cripple Quagsire, so teammates that can switch into them like Amoonguss, Corviknight, Skarmory, and Magic Bounce Xatu are appreciated; Amoonguss, in particular, also absorbs Toxic Spikes. Stored Power users like Espeon and Reuniclus can easily muscle past Quagsire, so Pokemon that can phaze them out like Dragon Tail Giratina and Whirlwind Hippowdon, respectively, make for great partners.

Quagsire is a mediocre physical wall in AG that fits on stall and bulky balance builds. It is outclassed by physical walls such as defensive Zygarde-C, Groudon, Necrozma-DM, and Lunala due to its average defense stats and passive nature. However, Quagsire holds a niche as the only Zacian-C counter in AG. Additionally, it also checks Coil and Dragon Dance variants of Glare Zygarde and Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM. Earthquake allows Quagsire to directly damage Zacian-C and chip other switch-ins such as Eternatus, Kyogre, and Necrozma-DM. Scald can be used to fish for burns against Toxic-immune Pokemon such as Eternatus, Necrozma-DM, and Ferrothorn. Haze is an alternative that allows Quagsire to act as an emergency check to setup sweepers such as Geomancy Xerneas, Dragon Dance Zekrom, and Swords Dance Groudon. Recover provides longevity throughout the game. Toxic threatens and prevents strong breakers such as Kyogre, Calyrex-S, Xerneas, and Yveltal from switching in for free. Heavy-Duty Boots prevents Quagsire from being chipped down by entry hazards and lets it remain fully healthy to switch into Zacian-C, while Rocky Helmet can be used on teams with strong entry hazard control to wear down and pressure Zacian-C and prevent Quagsire from being too passive. Quagsire needs a lot of support and is vulnerable to almost every special attacker. Thus, it must be paired with solid specially defensive walls such as Eternatus, Ferrothorn, Blissey, and Kyurem-W. Due to Quagsire's poor natural bulk, checks to naturally strong physical wallbreakers such as Marshadow, Groudon, and Zekrom are also appreciated, so teammates like Lunala, Eternatus, and Zygarde-C are solid options. Offensive Pokemon like Xerneas, Kyogre, and other setup sweepers can take advantage of Quagsire's passive nature and set up on it; Ditto is an excellent teammate to punish the aforementioned Pokemon.

Owing to its invaluable ability Unaware and its stellar defensive typing, Quagsire is the most reliable Zacian-C check in the game, as well as being adept at checking Necrozma-DM and Swords Dance Arceus formes and capable of taking on Dragon Tail Zygarde-C. Earthquake allows Quagsire to defeat Zacian-C, 2HKOing it while also damaging Primal Groudon and Necrozma-DM. Scald can be used over Earthquake for a chance to permanently cripple the aforementioned threats barring Primal Groudon, but it is less effective at forcing them out. Haze prevents Necrozma-DM from setting up on Quagsire and breaking through it with Sunsteel Strike while also providing a win condition versus Baton Pass teams and preventing Zygarde-C from freely setting up. Toxic allows Quagsire to cripple switch-ins such as Ho-Oh and support Arceus formes while chipping away at offensive Pokemon such as Mega Rayquaza, Xerneas, and Yveltal that may try to take advantage of Quagsire's passive nature. Leftovers provides passive recovery and is important to help prevent Play Rough or Close Combat Zacian-C from breaking through Quagsire, which it can with minimal chip. Shed Shell on the other hand eases the matchup versus Mega Gengar and Gothitelle, but in general the stall teams Quagsire features on cannot handle these threats regardless. Quagsire fits best on stall teams that in particular require an extremely reliable Zacian-C switch-ins. Due to Quagsire's low overall bulk, it is vulnerable to many wallbreakers. Lugia and support Arceus formes are good partners in order to help combat physical wallbreakers such as Primal Groudon, Mega Rayquaza, and Ultra Necrozma, whereas Chansey can check special ones such as Yveltal, Xerneas, Primal, Kyogre, Calm Mind Arceus formes, and Eternatus. Tyranitar is also a good partner, as it aids in checking Yveltal and Eternatus while potentially trapping Mega Gengar. Cleric support from the aformentioned Chansey and Diancie is also vital, as with just small amounts of chip damage, Zacian-C can break through Quagsire. Entry hazard removal is especially important, as Quagsire must be able to switch into Zacian-C reliably, and so Defoggers such as Ho-Oh, support Arceus formes, and Giratina are vital, and Magic Bounce users such as Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye are especially helpful for also countering Ferrothorn, which otherwise takes advantage of Quagsire.

Moves While weak, Scald has a useful 30% burn chance, which helps to wear down checks and further wall physical attackers. Earthquake is used for a decently powerful and consistent STAB move. Toxic lets Quagsire outlast both Pokemon it is supposed to be checking and Pokemon that check it. Toxic is particularly important for beating Roost Mega Charizard X and is helpful for beating and wearing down Landorus-T. Other Pokemon that threaten Quagsire such as Tangrowth can be poisoned upon switching in, which helps beat them in the long term. Recover is crucial and is what allows Quagsire to stay healthy and consistently wall and check what it needs to. Curse can be used over Toxic, as it helps Quagsire take on a select few physical attackers that it could potentially struggle with such as Alolan Marowak and Earth Plate Landorus-T. Set Details A straightforward EV spread of maximum HP and Defense investment with a Relaxed nature allows Quagsire to properly wall the physical attackers it needs to while retaining what power Scald has, as Quagsire's Speed is negligible anyways. Unaware is the only viable ability on Quagsire, as it is what allows Quagsire to wall most physical setup sweepers. Leftovers further helps with longevity and allows Quagsire to avoid important 2HKOs from Pokemon such as Adamant Landorus-T. Usage Tips Keeping Quagsire healthy with Recover or Wish passing is the most important aspect of using Quagsire. Allowing it to get weakened, get statused, have its item removed, or switch into more than one layer of entry hazards will severely hinder its ability to check threats such as Adamant Landorus-T. Generally, bring Quagsire in on something it walls and use Scald or Toxic to cripple or weaken the foe or potential switch-ins. Be cautious of double switches, as Quagsire alone cannot retaliate against powerful wallbreakers if caught off guard. Quagsire's passivity and predictability make it relatively easy to play around, so pay attention to how your opponent reacts to Quagsire and the rest of the team early-game. Be cautious of Z-Moves, which can either take Quagsire out or weaken it enough for other sweepers on the opponent's team. Proactively using Recover on common Z-Move users potentially wastes the opponent's Z-Move early. Use Curse to more reliably beat Pokemon such as offensive Z-Move Landorus-T and check Magic Guard Clefable and Swords Dance Alolan Marowak, which are very large nuisances to the passive teams on which Quagsire is found. Simply use Curse when Quagsire is healthy enough to take a subsequent attack after it has boosted, then recover off any damage. Team Options Chansey is a very good teammate for Quagsire, as it walls every special attacker in the tier bar some Tapu Lele variants, Choice Specs Hoopa-U, and other special setup sweepers with access to Psyshock. Additionally, with access to Natural Cure and Heal Bell, Chansey can act as a status absorber for Quagsire. Skarmory keeps entry hazards off the field for Quagsire, can take Grass-type attacks directed at Quagsire, and further walls physical attackers in general. It notably takes on Mega Pinsir and Tapu Bulu, which Quagsire alone cannot handle. Mega Sableye bounces back hazards and generally annoys the opposing team by crippling it with Will-O-Wisp and removing items. Tangrowth holding an Assault Vest can stomach many attacks in general and checks potential stallbreakers such as Serperior and certain Tapu Bulu sets. Tangrowth also serves as a countermeasure to situational lures such as Grass Knot Tapu Koko and shrugs off damage it takes with Regenerator.

Moves Stockpile boosts Quagsire's defenses and, when used with Normalium Z, fully heals it at the same time. With Quagsire's low speed, almost every offensive Pokemon will attack first, at which point it can shrug off any hit that doesn't OHKO, fully restore its health, and boost its defenses to ensure that it'll easily take any subsequent attacks. Recover continues to restore health after using Stockpile and is essential, as most physical attackers can continue to do enough damage to threaten Quagsire after one Stockpile, giving Quagsire the longevity it needs to continue to boost its defenses. Toxic is Quagsire's main method of doing damage and taking out the majority of Pokemon. Scald keeps Quagsire from being completely passive and gives it a chance of burning physical attackers, ensuring it will survive physical critical hits and giving it a chance against certain Pokemon such as bulky Taunt Krookodile and Mega Diancie, both of which can prevent Quagsire from using Toxic on them. Alternatively, Earthquake allows Quagsire to hit the Steel- and Poison-type Pokemon that are naturally immune to Toxic, such as Mega Metagross, Magnezone, and Mega Gengar. Additionally, having an attacking move allows Quagsire to not have to resort to Struggle if it is Taunted, and it also lets Quagsire break through Substitute users like Mega Charizard X and Landorus-T. Set Details Normalium Z is essential, as Quagsire needs Z-Stockpile's healing effect to survive more than a single attack against the majority of offensive Pokemon. Unaware allows Quagsire to ignore the stat changes of the foe when taking or dealing damage, although it leaves a vulnerability to moves like Draco Meteor from Naganadel and Fleur Cannon from Magearna, as Quagsire unfortunately ignores the stat dropping effects of these moves as well. Quagsire runs 248 HP EVs and 84 Defense EVs with a Bold or Impish nature in order to avoid an OHKO from Tectonic Rage from Landorus-T. The rest is put into Special Defense to maximize special bulk. Be sure to switch around the natures depending on the type of offensive coverage you are running. An EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD with either a Calm or Careful nature sacrifices defensive versatility for better chances against bulky special attackers like Meloetta and non-Grass Knot Greninja, but it still struggles against powerful special attacking threats such as Tapu Lele and Porygon-Z. Usage Tips On Team Preview, consider what Pokemon your opponent has that are capable of beating Quagsire. It can easily handle a plethora of bulky offense Pokemon, so if your opponent's team features the likes of Mega Metagross, Dragonite, and Mega Charizard X, Quagsire can shine. When using Quagsire against an offensive threat, your first move should always be to go for Z-Stockpile. As long as Quagsire manages to take the hit, it will completely restore its health and boost its defenses by one stage. After that, boost with Stockpile and heal with Recover accordingly, making sure Quagsire remains out of range of being KOed. After Quagsire has used Stockpile three times and is at high HP, go for Toxic and stall the foe's health away. Use Scald and Earthquake in matchups where Toxic would be ineffectual or where Scald does more damage faster, such as against Landorus-T, Krookodile, and Mega Tyranitar. Against other Toxic users, be sure to preserve Z-Stockpile as long as you can, as it allows Quagsire to survive Toxic for a few turns longer than its foe can. Always remember that Quagsire can lose to an inopportune critical hit, so if you have a more reliable way of taking out the opponent's Pokemon, it may be better to go with that instead. Team Options Teammates capable of beating Grass-types like Venusaur are appreciated, so Flyinium Z Dragonite and Landorus-T make good partners, and Quagsire can take out Pokemon such as Dragonite and Kyurem for them. Tapu Lele beats Venusaur as well as other counters such as Mega Gyarados, Haxorus, and Greninja, while Quagsire can take out some of Tapu Lele's best answers in Mega Metagross and Mega Aggron. Stall beaters such as Mega Gyarados and Zygarde help patch up Quagsire's weakness to opposing stall while letting Quagsire capitalize on the focused sets ran to beat them; however, Quagsire must be wary, as Grass coverage is often used to threaten Mega Gyarados. Specially defensive Pokemon such as Laser Focus Meloetta can also provide an answer to hyper offensive special attackers like Porygon-Z and Mega Gardevoir that threaten Quagsire's poor defenses, and in return, Quagsire can defend Meloetta against Volcarona and Magnezone, which can both effectively take it down.

Moves Scald has a chance to burn, which is particularly useful for crippling physical attackers such as Mega Gallade and Mega Scizor, allowing Quagsire to wall them more easily. Earthquake hits Electric-type Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Magnezone, and Alolan Raichu for super effective damage. Protect is extremely good on stall Water for scouting attacks, racking up Toxic damage, and giving Quagsire more Leftovers recovery; it also helps keep Quagsire out of range of Mega Gallade's Close Combat and Mega Pinsir's Return. Recover is Quagsire's form of reliable recovery and keeps it healthy throughout a battle. Toxic puts opposing walls, such as Porygon2, Mantine, and Rotom-W, on timers. Counter can be used over Toxic in order to surprise physical wallbreakers such as Choice Band Dragonite that Quagsire usually would not be able to handle. Set Details Maximum Defense investment along with an Impish nature allows Quagsire to switch into and check physical attackers such as Landorus-T, Choice Band Zeraora, and Mega Scizor with ease. It also minimizes the chances of Mega Gallade and Mega Pinsir 2HKOing Quagsire. Leftovers provides Quagsire with passive recovery and prevents it from easily being worn down throughout the battle. Unaware allows Quagsire to check threatening setup sweepers such as Zeraora, Dragonite, Landorus-T, and Bisharp. Usage Tips Protect should be used to scout for attacks, which is especially useful against Choice-locked Pokemon such as Tapu Koko and Latios. It should also be used to regain health using Leftovers and rack up Toxic damage. Quagsire should be preserved in order to check setup sweepers that threaten your team, such as Dragonite, Azumarill, and Bisharp. Recover should be used constantly in order to keep Quagsire healthy so it can keep on switching into physical and Electric-type Pokemon. Quagsire should generally prioritize keeping itself healthy over spreading status. Try to avoid status conditions, particularly poison, as they hinders Quagsire's ability to check setup sweepers by putting it on a timer. With that being said, if Quagsire does happen to get afflicted with poison, try to look for opportunities to use Heal Bell with Lanturn in order to cure its status and keep it healthy. Try to use Toxic liberally in order to catch Quagsire's checks and counters such as Hydreigon and Breloom off guard in case they switch in. This makes it a lot easier to wear down said checks and counters over time through switching. Try to remove entry hazards using Defog before Quagsire is sent out, especially if Toxic Spikes and Spikes are set, as the former will make checking setup sweepers extremely hard, while the latter makes switching directly into Pokemon that Quagsire is supposed to check difficult. In the Electric matchup, Quagsire should try to scout which Pokemon is carrying Grass Knot in order to prevent itself from getting unnecessarily knocked out. As Quagsire can typically beat Alolan Raichu without Grass Knot, it is a good switch-in to a large portion of Electric-types, which is valuable in the matchup. Against teams with Choice Band Victini, try to keep Quagsire healthy, as Quagsire is one of the few Pokemon on stall Water teams that counters it. Team Options The entirety of stall Water teams appreciate Quagsire's ability to defensively check setup sweepers such as Zeraora, Azumarill, Bisharp, and Mega Scizor. Quagsire appreciates Toxapex as a blanket defensive check and is able to switch into Grass-type Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur and Breloom while also being able to set up and remove Toxic Spikes and use Haze to remove boosts from setup sweepers Quagsire can't check such as Tapu Bulu, which it can threaten with Sludge Bomb. Lanturn is a great secondary Electric immunity due to Volt Absorb and its high Special Defense, allowing it to switch into strong Electric-type special attackers that otherwise threaten Quagsire like Choice Specs Tapu Koko and Grass Knot Alolan Raichu. Quagsire also appreciates its Heal Bell support that cures status conditions that wear it down, such as poison. Azumarill is able to switch into, trap, and beat threatening Grass-type setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Breloom and Tapu Bulu because of its ability in Sap Sipper. Mantine's special bulk and Flying typing allow it to switch into and check special attackers that Quagsire struggles with such as Landorus, Mega Charizard Y, and Celebi. Quagsire also appreciates Mantine's ability to remove entry hazards that cripple it upon switching in, such as Spikes and Toxic Spikes, using Defog. Similar to Mantine, Empoleon's special bulk and Steel typing also allow it to switch into special attackers that threaten Quagsire such as Mega Venusaur and Latios while being able to remove entry hazards using Defog. It can also check Calm Mind Mega Latias with Roar for Quagsire. Alomomola can use its much higher base HP to pass huge Wishes to Quagsire to support it if it ever gets worn down. Alomomola can also check special attackers using Mirror Coat and use Knock Off to hamper recovery by removing Leftovers and scout potentially dangerous attacks using Protect for Quagsire. Mega Slowbro's phenomenal Defense stat allows it to check physical wallbreakers that Quagsire is unable to check such as Choice Band Dragonite and Diggersby. Slowking is able to switch into a variety of special attackers such as Latios and Keldeo for Quagsire. It is also able to check Kommo-o and Mew, setup sweepers that Quagsire cannot check, with Dragon Tail.

Moves Earthquake is Quagsire's best STAB attack due to its great power and perfect accuracy, dealing good damage against most threats that do not resist it and letting Quagsire deal heavy damage to Lanturn in particular. Scald makes Quagsire slightly more difficult to switch into and can cripple physical attackers, complementing Quagsire's physical bulk nicely. Recover allows Quagsire to regain 50% of its HP regardless of weather and keeps it healthy throughout the battle. Toxic can wear down common switch-ins to Quagsire, mainly Grass-types such as Ludicolo and Lilligant. Alternatively, Curse allows Quagsire to raise its Attack and Defense, allowing to beat Pokemon it normally has to stall out such as Malamar and Audino. Curse's Defense boost also helps Quagsire against physical attackers like Tauros, Kangaskhan, Hariyama, and Guts-boosted Gurdurr so that it won't have to use Recover nearly as much. Set Details 252 EVs in HP and Defense maximize Quagsire's defensive bulk. A Relaxed nature allows both of Quagsire's STAB moves to be at full power while lowering its irrelevant Speed stat. Unaware allows Quagsire to ignore the opponent's stat changes, allowing it to check almost all setup sweepers. Leftovers provides Quagsire with some passive recovery every turn, which is important for avoiding 2HKOs from certain powerful attackers such as Tauros and Kangaskhan after switching into Spikes. Usage Tips Quagsire should be using Scald and Toxic early on to wear down the opposition. Bring Quagsire in on setup sweepers, as it can check almost all physical setup sweepers lacking a Grass-type coverage move, mainly Scyther, Samurott, and Klinklang, but also all-out-attackers such as Archeops, Kangaskhan, and Tauros. Avoid opposing Toxic and other status effects if your team has no cleric, as they hinder Quagsire's ability to continually check setup sweepers. In particular, try not to switch Quagsire into Toxic Spikes; use a grounded Poison-type or hazard removal Pokemon to remove them first. Use Recover to keep Quagsire healthy, not leaving it at the point where it can be 2HKOed after switching in. Be wary about using Recover to stall out attacks such as Hariyama's Close Combat if your team has another solid check, as this increases the likelihood of a surprise critical hit KOing Quagsire. Earthquake can hit frail Pokemon that don't mind Scald such as Jynx and Floatzel as they switch in, and can be used to rack up damage against statused targets if Quagsire doesn't need to heal up. Scout for Grass-type coverage moves like Seed Bomb from Garbodor and Hidden Power Grass from Magmortar before switching Quagsire into them if possible. While Quagsire can handle most offensive Pokemon, extremely powerful physical attackers such as Zangoose, Choice Band Hariyama, and Choice Band Golurk can easily break through Quagsire's only decent physical bulk, so don't try and switch into these foes. Team Options Pokemon that resist Grass-type attacks such as Garbodor, Charizard, and Scyther are essential teammates. Vileplume and Ferroseed are particularly helpful; the former absorbs Toxic Spikes while the latter can provide Stealth Rock support, and both are excellent responses to Grass-type setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Shiftry and Jumpluff that can break through Quagsire. Heal Bell users such as Mega Audino and Sap Sipper Miltank work well to cure status for Quagsire, with Miltank being able to use Sap Sipper to completely nullify Grass-types such as Lilligant while also dealing with Vivillon, another setup sweeper Quagsire has problems with. In general, passive Pokemon that give setup sweepers free turns highly appreciate Quagsire's support; Bronzor and Gourgeist-XL are some other notable partners. Absorbing Toxic Spikes is mandatory for keeping Quagsire healthy, so make sure to pack a grounded Poison-type such as Vileplume, Skuntank, or Garbodor; a Rapid Spin user such as Hitmonchan, Claydol, or Cryogonal; a Defog user such as Shiftry or Mantine; or Xatu to keep them off the field.

Moves Scald and Recover are essential moves for Quagsire to do its job, as they allow it to burn and then stall out physical attackers such as Belly Drum Azumarill and Swords Dance Scizor. Earthquake gives good neutral coverage in conjunction with Scald and allows Quagsire to beat Pokemon that are immune to burns such as Heatran and Mega Charizard X. Toxic is generally the best option for the fourth moveslot to punish switch-ins such as Manaphy and Latios before Quagsire is forced out, without having to rely on Scald's 30% chance to burn. Haze can be used over Earthquake to reset boosts from sweepers such as Calm Mind Clefable in a pinch, but this comes at the cost of worsening Quagsire's matchup against Heatran. Encore can also be used instead to stop Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados and Suicune from setting up on Quagsire, the former of which ignores Quagsire's Unaware, and the latter of which can stall Quagsire out. Set Details Maximum HP and Defense investment with a Defense-boosting nature lets Quagsire best check the physical threats it is meant to. A Relaxed nature is used over Impish or Bold to maximize its damage output, which is far more useful to it than its paltry Speed. Leftovers gives Quagsire valuable passive recovery. Unaware allows Quagsire to check certain setup sweepers that would otherwise destroy defensive teams. Usage Tips It is important to keep Quagsire at close-to-full health as long as there is something on the opponent's team that it is needed to check. Do not let it take any unnecessary damage, as several of the threats it is often required to check only fail to 2HKO it by a matter of a few percent. Status conditions, especially burn and poison, can cripple Quagsire and remove it as a check to certain Pokemon, so be wary around foes that can inflict them, such as Talonflame and Mega Charizard X with Will-O-Wisp. Do not overestimate Quagsire's physical bulk, either: certain physical attackers, such as Life Orb Excadrill, Choice Band Azumarill, and Mega Pinsir, can 2HKO it even with no boosts, so do not assume that it is an automatic check to any physical attacker as long as it is healthy. Quagsire should very rarely come in on a special attack, as its special bulk is very poor, though its typing allows it to counter several Electric-types in the tier. Among those it can counter are Magnezone, Raikou, and Mega Manectric, all of which it threatens back with Earthquake. Team Options Pokemon that can take on Grass-types pair well with Quagsire, as Grass-types easily force Quagsire out with their STAB moves regardless of boosts. They are especially threatening if they are not seriously hindered by a potential burn from Scald on the switch. Assault Vest Tornadus-T is one potential partner, being able to come in against the likes of Serperior, Mega Venusaur, and Celebi and generally force them out. Even outside of super effective hits, Quagsire cannot take any strong special attacks well, so bulky special walls make good partners for it. Ferrothorn is a decent option in this role, as not only does it resist Grass and take hits from strong special attackers such as Latios, but it also takes on Manaphy lacking Hidden Power Fire, which is a considerable threat to defensive teams, on which Quagsire is usually used. Quagsire is crippled by status ailments, so it greatly appreciates cleric support from Pokemon with Heal Bell or Aromatherapy such as Chansey, Clefable, and Sylveon. Quagsire is also very easily worn down by entry hazards, so ways to remove them and, preferably, keep them off the field in the first place are appreciated. Latias is a good Defogger to pair with Quagsire, as, in addition to removing entry hazards for it, it can take on several Pokemon that cause Quagsire problems, such as Mega Charizard Y, Mega Venusaur, and Manaphy, and it appreciates Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X, Bisharp, and Weavile being reliably checked and worn down.

Moves Scald allows Quagsire to burn physical attackers such as Swords Dance Lucario and Mega Absol, and Earthquake is a decently powerful secondary STAB attack that allows Quagsire to hit threats such as Chandelure and Empoleon for fair damage. Recover allows Quagsire to remain healthy throughout the match as well as stall foes out after inflicting status on them. Lastly, Toxic can be used to punish Quagsire's common switch-ins in Hydreigon and Mega Blastoise; it aids Quagsire greatly in stalling these Pokemon out. Set Details 252 EVs in HP and Defense allow Quagsire to make as much use of its physical bulk as possible and reliably tank powerful physical attacks, such as Cobalion's Close Combat and Krookodile's Earthquake. A Relaxed nature is preferred, as it further increases Quagsire's physically defensive prowess while only taking away from its Speed, which it won't often rely on. Leftovers provides Quagsire with passive recovery at the end of every turn, which is important for avoiding 2HKOs from the likes of Mamoswine and Mega Swampert and retaliating with Toxic or Scald. Usage Tip It is best to avoid status conditions when using Quagsire, as burn slowly wears it down and Toxic puts it on an undesirable timer. Quagsire should be switched into physical setup sweepers, as its impressive physical bulk and ability allow it to reliably tank the hits of most physical setup sweepers that are known to threaten stall. Unless it is resisted or immune, Quagsire should almost never come in on special attacks due to its poor Special Defense and lack of investment. Toxic and Recover are both good options when predicting the opponent to switch, as Quagsire will be able to either cripple the opponent's switch-in or recover its health and switch out. Due to narrowly avoiding 2HKOs from the likes of Jolly Lucario and Crawdaunt, Quagsire should usually be preserved and close to full health before these threats are brought out in order to adequately check them. Team Options Blissey is a great partner for Quagsire, as it is able to reliably switch into the special attacks Quagsire hates taking, such as any of Celebi's STAB attacks, Hydreigon's Dark Pulse, and Heliolisk's Grass Knot. Furthermore, Blissey is able to utilize its access to Heal Bell to heal Quagsire of any status ailments it's been hit with. Other specially bulky Pokemon, such as Porygon2 and Goodra, are also able to tank certain hits for Quagsire quite well. Pokemon that are able to tank Grass-type attacks, such as specially defensive Bronzong and Mega Aggron, are able to help compensate for Quagsire's 4x Grass weakness. Given their access to Heal Bell, Sylveon and Umbreon also make for good partners, as they are able to heal status ailments Quagsire is burdened with during a match. Additionally, both are able to provide decent offensive presence in the forms of Pixilate Hyper Voice and Foul Play, which can help compensate for Quagsire's lack of power. Quagsire is easily worn down by entry hazards, so it appreciates Defog or Rapid Spin support from the likes of Gligar, Mandibuzz, and Forretress. Roserade and Chesnaught both function as decent semi-stall partners for Quagsire, as both are able to come in on Grass-type attacks that it hates taking as well as provide it with Leech Seed support. Sableye is also able to function as a semi-stall partner for Quagsire, as it is able to invest in Special Defense and form a decent defensive core to help Quagsire with its low Special Defense. Additionally, Sableye can cripple especially powerful physical attackers that are able to break Quagsire, such as Lucario and Haxorus, with priority Will-O-Wisp.

Moves Recover is excellent for reliable recovery, as it allows Quagsire to have longevity as a wall. Scald is useful to give Quagsire the chance to burn physical attackers as well as Taunt users. Earthquake gives Quagsire passable offensive presence even when uninvested thanks to its high Base Power. Toxic is useful to wear down foes and break walls that Quagsire would normally be unable to break due to being relatively weak. Spikes is also an option, as Quagsire can set it up to support its team and accumulate some passive damage. Set Details Unaware allows Quagsire to blanket check most setup sweepers. Maximum Defense and HP investment is used for maximum physical bulk, and a Relaxed nature is used because it lowers neither offensive nor defensive stats, and Quagsire doesn't care about outpacing opposing Pokemon. Leftovers gives Quagsire additional recovery. Usage Tips Quagsire is a great answer to physical setup sweepers and can freely switch into most of them if it is healthy. It can then force them out, getting free turns to stack Spikes or deal damage. However, some particularly strong physical attackers such as Life Orb Landorus-T and Azumarill will 2HKO Quagsire, so be aware that it cannot wall them. Do not leave Quagsire in on any Grass-type, as it won't be surviving a Grass-type attack no matter how bulky it is due to its 4x weakness to them. It also generally loses to special wallbreakers such as Meloetta and Sylveon because of its mediocre special bulk. Keep Quagsire healthy if your opponent has a likely setup sweeper such as Belly Drum Talonflame because you will need it to be healthy in order to win late-game. Remember that the foe's stat drops are also ignored by Unaware, so Quagsire can't deal with moves such as Draco Meteor easily, and keep in mind that a sweeper with Mold Breaker, Teravolt, or Turboblaze such as Dragon Dance Kyurem-B will usually break Quagsire because those abilities ignore Unaware. Avoid letting Quagsire get burned or poisoned because that hampers its effectiveness as a wall. Quagsire can freely switch in on almost any Electric-type Pokemon thanks to its immunity to their STAB moves and neutrality to Hidden Power Ice, which is an Electric-type's most common coverage move. Team Options Quagsire should be used on teams that are weak to setup sweepers, though it fits on stall builds a lot more than it does offensive builds, meaning that common stall teammates such as Skarmory and Mega Sableye are good options. Most defensive Flying-types such as Skarmory are good team options because they can absorb Grass-type attacks for Quagsire, and Quagsire can absorb Electric- and Rock-type attacks for them in return. Clerics such as Togekiss are excellent partners to heal Quagsire in the event it gets inflicted with a status ailment. Quagsire is easily worn down by Spikes and Toxic Spikes, so entry hazard removers such as Latias are useful teammates. Special walls such as Chansey and Clefable are good team options because they can absorb special attacks for Quagsire, while it can absorb physical attacks for them, and Clefable can also deal with special setup sweepers because it also has Unaware.

With Recover and Unaware, Quagsire has the ability to wall threatening setup sweepers such as Swords Dance + Lum Berry Gallade. Scald is Quagsire's most important attack, as it patches up its Defense by potentially crippling a physical attacker with a burn. Earthquake is Quagsire's best shot at inflicting any serious damage on Fire-types, such as Magmortar and Entei, and makes good use out of its higher Attack stat. Toxic works exceptionally well with Recover, as the combination gives Quagsire the opportunity to outstall a plethora of defensive Pokemon such as Slowking and Uxie. Alternatively, Encore works well by snatching momentum away from setup sweepers and team supporters who attempt to set up on Quagsire. Encore also helps stop Lilligant and Sceptile from boosting, forces entry hazard users into using Stealth Rock repeatedly, and potentially limits dual screens users, such as Uxie, to one screen. Quagsire can make use of a few other moves to use in the final slot. Ice Beam can be used to dent Grass-type switch-ins, Druddigon, and offensive Sigilyph. Yawn can also prove to be useful, functioning as a phazing move, though it can sometimes interfere with Scald. Quagsire can also opt for a specially defensive spread so that it can beat Calm Mind users with greater ease; however, it's best to use Quagsire to wall physical attackers, not special attackers. Quagsire often lures in Grass-types, and as such, Sap Sipper Pokemon, such as Miltank and Bouffalant, make great partners for their ability to absorb these threats' STAB moves. Fire-types also work as acceptable partners for their ability to dispose of Grass-types; Moltres and Entei are good choices, as Quagsire can take any Rock-type moves aimed at them. Ironically, Quagsire can even work well with Grass-types themselves. Amoonguss is useful for its ability to cover Quagsire's Grass-type weakness, while Roselia can set up Spikes or Toxic Spikes to help Quagsire stall. Defensive Steel-types, such as Magneton, work quite well with Quagsire too, as they can take Grass-type moves aimed at it and it can sponge the Fire-type attacks that they loathe. Status afflictions severely cripple Quagsire, as it will be unable to stay in and repeatedly tank hits. To fix this issue, pairing Quagsire up with clerics, such as Clefable and Roselia, can prove to be useful.

战术分析
Quagsire makes an excellent user of Curse due to its ability, Unaware. This allows it to set up on many of the boosting sweepers in UU, such as Weavile, Spiritomb, and various Calm Mind users. Curse makes Quagsire even harder to take down by boosting its uninvested Defense, and increases its usable base 85 Attack to threatening levels. The Speed drops are inconsequential, since it is extremely slow anyway. Recover distinguishes it from other Curse users such as Snorlax, by allowing Quagsire to restore HP reliably. Earthquake is Quagsire's main STAB move, providing a reliable form of offense. It also hits Electric-types super effectively, which is great since most are walled handily by Quagsire. The last slot is a toss-up between Stone Edge and Waterfall. If you desire the excellent neutral coverage that EdgeQuake provides, Stone Edge is the better choice, as it hits Levitating Pokemon, such as Rotom-F, and Flying-types, such as Zapdos, that Earthquake would otherwise miss, providing the best overall coverage. However, Waterfall is still a valid choice. A reliable second STAB move, it hits the many Ground-types, such as Rhyperior and Golurk, for super effective damage. Toxic Spikes are a huge issue for Quagsire, so partners such as Roserade are great to remove them. It can also lay down its own Toxic Spikes, which complements this Curse set's survivability, and Roserade 4x resists Quagsire's dreaded Grass-type weakness. Roserade even takes down opposing Quagsire, which is not particularly troubled by this set, and can threaten a burn with Scald or poison with Toxic. Since Quagsire is neutered by status, clerics such as Roserade and Shaymin are good teammates. They can also help sponge powerful special attacks from the likes of Mismagius and Nidoking, which can take down Quagsire. Opposing Grass-types are a huge issue as well, threatening Quagsire with their super effective attacks, so Fire-types such as Darmanitan and Victini pair well with Quagsire to eliminate them and switch in on resisted attacks. The EV spread maximizes bulk, with full investment in HP and Special Defense to make Quagsire a great mixed wall after a few turns of setup. A more offensive EV spread of 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD is possible, but this is not recommended for a few reasons. First of all, Quagsire's Attack, even invested, is too low for the investment to be justified. Secondly, it severely detracts from Quagsire's special bulk, which is almost a necessity for Quagsire to stick around.

Quagsire is a great answer to most non-Choice Band physical attackers thanks to Unaware. Recover helps it in this role, allowing it to heal off the damage from attacks that fail to OHKO or 2HKO, such as Weavile's Ice Punch. Scald spreads burns, crippling most physical attackers. However, it should not be used in an offensive manner, as coming off a base 65 Special Attack means it will be very weak. While Toxic might seem counterproductive with Scald, it certainly earns its keep in the third slot. It is useful when predicting defensive switch-ins that might want to use Quagsire as setup fodder. Earthquake is the best option for the last slot; it is a reliable STAB move and hits Electric-type Pokemon such as Electivire that generally cannot do anything to Quagsire. Since Quagsire is using both special and physical attacks, a Relaxed nature with the given EVs is best to maximize physical bulk; the fact that it lowers Speed hardly matters, as Quagsire is very slow to begin with. Alternatively, you can use a specially defensive set to counter most special attackers (without a Grass-type move, of course), especially Electric-types such as Jolteon, Zapdos, and Raikou. This choice wholly depends on your team. Stockpile over Earthquake is viable, but this leaves Quagsire nearly hopeless against Taunt, and strong moves will still KO. Yawn can be used as a phazing move over Toxic, but is a lesser option because of Sleep Clause. Swagger is a decent choice over Earthquake if Quagsire uses Toxic, as it will be able to stall out the opponent with confusion and steady damage from Toxic while ignoring the Attack boosts with Unaware. However, it is rather unreliable and easily PP stalled. Entry hazards on the opponent's side of the field are rather useful for Quagsire, as Unaware will force the opponent to switch when Quagsire cannot be taken down. Roserade is once again a great teammate, setting up entry hazards and tanking Grass-type moves. Zapdos provides nice support to Quagsire by both taking Grass-type moves and frying opponents with Heat Wave. Your own Water-types will like the opponent's Electric-types removed; Swords Dance Samurott and Feraligatr will put pressure on the opponent when fast, threatening Electric-types are gone.

Quagsire's stats are admittedly below average, but its access to Encore, Recover, and Water Absorb, in addition to its relatively rare Ground sub-typing, give it some decent perks over other bulky Water-types. For what it's worth, Quagsire is one of the few hard counters to Life Orb Starmie; it is immune to both Hydro Pump and Thunderbolt, while Ice Beam can't even muster a 3HKO factoring in Leftovers. Quagsire also fares quite well against physical threats such as Metagross, Tyranitar, and Gyarados, as well as several Water- and Electric-type attackers that lack a Grass-type move to deal with it. Earthquake is a great STAB move which helps make up for Quagsire's rather disappointing Attack stat, garnering super effective hits on various important threats, including the aforementioned Metagross and Tyranitar. Recover and Encore are what set Quagsire apart from most other Water-types, allowing Quagsire a reliable instant recovery move with decent PP and a particularly creative method to force switches, respectively. Toxic is used in the final slot for when Earthquake just doesn't cut it, allowing Quagsire to Toxic stall with Recover like Gliscor does with Roost. On the other hand, Ice Punch gets almost perfect coverage with Earthquake and allows Quagsire to check Flygon and Dragonite with greater ease. The given EV spread maximizes Quagsire's effective bulk, and is largely geared towards Special Defense since many of the Pokemon Quagsire can check are specially based, such as Starmie. Enough is invested into Special Defense that Life Orb Starmie's Ice Beam never 3HKOes Quagsire, while the hint in Defense helps cushion against physical attackers such as Metagross and Flygon. A physically geared EV spread is viable, but it leaves Quagsire largely outclassed by Swampert. As a bulky Water-type, Quagsire works excellently alongside Grass- and Fire-types as part of a team core. Roserade, in particular, works marvelously for its ability to absorb any stray Toxic Spikes, which absolutely cripple Quagsire, and set up Spikes, which will undoubtedly get their money's worth thanks to Quagsire's ability to force switches with Encore. Similarly, other entry hazard supporters, such as Skarmory and Forretress, also work well with Quagsire, both being x4 resistant to its Grass-type weakness, while it in return is at least resistant to all of their weaknesses. Forretress is also able to Rapid Spin away entry hazards, which is great since Quagsire can find itself Spikes fodder quite easily. Mixed Infernape can be used as the Fire-type in the core that serves as a pivot to break through the bulkier Pokemon that give Quagsire problems. Quagsire's Encore also makes it considerably easier for Infernape to switch in and wreak havoc. Pokemon with a similar lack of resistances or bulk will also appreciate Quagsire's Encore.

Quagsire makes an excellent defensive Pokemon due to its great typing and ability. Thanks to its Water / Ground typing, Quagsire has resistances to Fire-, Poison-, Rock-, and Steel-type moves, immunities to Electric- and Water-type moves (due to Water Absorb), and a lone 4x weakness to Grass-type moves. With Recover and its high HP and Defense stats, Quagsire is able to stall out opponents and take repeated hits without trouble. During this time, Quagsire can support its teammates and cripple opposing Pokemon with its great support options. Earthquake and Waterfall provide reliable STAB attacks and have good type coverage together, netting solid damage on most of the UU tier. Alternatively, Stone Edge may be used to hit Flying-types harder, though the only notable ones that Waterfall does not already hit for at least neutral damage are Mantine and Altaria. The EVs listed focus on Quagsire's higher defensive stat. 252 EVs in HP give Quagsire the highest possible overall bulk, while max Defense EVs are a must, allowing Quagsire to survive some of the most powerful physical assaults in the tier with little trouble. The remaining EVs are placed into Attack, giving Quagsire's attacks a small boost in power. Quagsire encounters major problems when faced with Grass-type Pokemon, as they are able to exploit its 4x weakness with their STAB attacks and OHKO it while switching in with near impunity thanks to their resistances to both of Quagsire's STAB moves. Flying-types, such as Altaria, are great partners for Quagsire, as they resist Grass-type moves. Altaria also has the ability Natural Cure, allowing it to absorb status moves aimed at Quagsire and be cured upon switching out. Moltres is another option to pair with Quagsire, as it can switch into Grass attacks with ease and threaten to OHKO opposing Grass-types with its STAB Fire- and Flying-type moves. Moltres's 4x Stealth Rock weakness should be taken into account, however, as it cannot switch in nearly as freely without Rapid Spin support.

Quagsire has access to an overlooked stat-boosting move, Curse, which allows it to boost its average Attack and Defense stats. A base 65 Special Defense stat doesn't look too impressive at first glance, but with immunities to the commonly used Electric- and Water-type moves and only one weakness in Grass-type attacks, Quagsire can be tough to take down after a few boosts from Curse. After a couple of Curses, Quagsire becomes a fearsome tank, capable of tearing holes in any Pokemon that don't resist or aren't immune to its STAB Earthquake. Curse is a given on this set to boost Quagsire's Attack and Defense, Recover allows Quagsire to restore half of its HP in a single turn, and Earthquake and Waterfall provide Quagsire with powerful STAB moves that hit most threats in UU for at least neutral damage. Stone Edge can be used over Waterfall to hit Flying-types for super effective damage, but Waterfall provides better overall type coverage. The EVs on this set focus on Quagsire's Special Defense stat. 252 HP EVs give Quagsire a large amount of bulk and allow it to survive both physical and special moves with little trouble. Max Special Defense is a must to allow Quagsire to survive most neutral special attacks aimed at it. The remaining EVs are placed into Attack to give Quagsire a small boost in power. Again, Grass-types are an obstacle for Quagsire, meaning Flying- and Fire-types, such as Altaria and Moltres, are needed to remove these threats before Quagsire can safely set up. Scyther is another good option to destroy Grass-types thanks to its STAB Bug- and Flying-type moves and resistance to Grass-type attacks. Weezing is a problem for this set as well, since Will-O-Wisp can cripple Quagsire and render all of its attacking options worthless. To ensure this doesn't happen, Houndoom is a great addition to your team, being able to switch in on Will-O-Wisp, net a Flash Fire boost, and instantly OHKO Weezing with Fire Blast. Drapion makes an excellent partner for Quagsire, as it can absorb Toxic Spikes set up by the opponent while being able to set up its own; this helps Quagsire by crippling walls such as Slowbro and Tangrowth. Drapion's typing also makes it an ideal switch-in to most Grass-types, though it should beware of Venusaur's Earthquake. Funnily enough, Venusaur is another good option, as it can absorb Toxic Spikes on the switch-in, then proceed to cripple the opposing Pokemon with Sleep Powder.

Quagsire's excellent typing, above average HP stat, and Water Absorb ability make it a solid support Pokemon in Ubers. Quagsire is an excellent counter to all Kyogre sets due to its immunity to the Water- and Electric-type moves Kyogre throws around. If Kyogre tries to set up Calm Mind or Substitute, Quagsire can cripple it with Encore and force it to switch out. However, many Kyogre use Choice items, forcing them to switch out immediately. Encore is a staple on this set, as it allows Quagsire to cripple any Pokemon who tries to set up, like Rock Polish Groudon. Not only that, but it's also helpful because it forces Pokemon such as Kyogre to use Ice Beam repeatedly, which allows you to bring in a Pokemon who will take little damage from it. Earthquake is used to hit Heatran (who shuts Quagsire down with Taunt) and Dialga super effectively, while gaining a boost from STAB. Yawn is an excellent move to force switches and rack up damage from entry hazards. Toxic can be used to wear down bulky opponents such as Groudon, Kyogre, and Wobbuffet. You may consider using a Shed Shell to escape Wobbuffet, as it can Encore a status move and make them useless with Safeguard. The EVs listed are geared towards Special Defense, due to the specially-based nature of the Uber tier. Max HP gives Quagsire an excellent level of bulk, while max Special Defense allows it to survive powerful special moves, such as Choice Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend and even Choice Specs Kyogre's Ice Beam. The remaining EVs are placed into Defense, giving Quagsire an extra point in its defenses. Below are some damage calculations showing Quagsire's ability to take hits. 252 SpA Timid Choice Scarf Kyogre Ice Beam = 27.4% - 32.5% 252 SpA Hasty Palkia Choice Scarf Spacial Rend = 43.4% - 51.3% 252 SpA Timid Dialga Choice Scarf Dragon Pulse = 39.1% - 46.4% A Pokemon to set up entry hazards is a necessity, as Quagsire's ability to cause switches with both Yawn and Encore will rack up a lot of residual damage. Deoxys-S is one of the best options in the Uber tier due to its insane Speed stat, access to Taunt, and the choice of Stealth Rock, Spikes, or both. Forretress is another fine option thanks to its amazing typing and Rapid Spin. Unlike Deoxys-S, Forretress also has access to Toxic Spikes, which allow it to cripple grounded walls such as Groudon and Blissey. Skarmory is another excellent choice as it can switch into Pokemon like Choiced Shaymin-S or Rayquaza locked into Outrage, then set up Spikes or Stealth Rock.

Set Description Quagsire switches into Swampert, Milotic, and Starmie to nullify the progress they aim to make with Water-type STAB moves. It is also strong against non-Ice Beam Suicune, making it a valuable counter to Sleep Talk variants. Against Roar Suicune with Spikes down, however, it will eventually be worn down if the player is not careful. Rest allows it to absorb Toxic from Swampert, Milotic, Rest Zapdos, Hidden Power Fire Magneton, and even defensive Jirachi sets, while Curse enables it to set up and threaten progress after Skarmory has been KOed. Earthquake offers a strong STAB attack and a means of pressuring the grounded backbone Pokemon Quagsire is tasked directly with countering, as well as their common partner in Blissey. Ice Beam allows it to wear down Zapdos, Celebi, Flygon, and Skarmory, which halt its momentum, and keep physical attacking Salamence sets at bay. With its Water / Ground typing, Quagsire is able to comfortably tank physical attacks from Metagross, Tyranitar, Aerodactyl, and Salamence, just as Swampert does. However, without Protect and with worse stats, it struggles to pivot in on powerful, often Choice Band-boosted, attacks or KO any of them from comparable HP ranges. 40 Special Defense EVs allow Quagsire to tank Hidden Power Grass from maximum Special Attack Tyranitar, and more investment can be considered to better tank attacks like Ice Beam from Blissey and Swampert; however, as Quagsire is desired for bringing physical bulk, it is important to keep heavy investment in Defense. Team Options Quagsire is not a direct substitute for Swampert. It lacks a strong STAB attack that hits Skarmory, and it struggles to make progress against certain other important Pokemon in the tier due to lacking breaking power. As a result, Quagsire is best supported by Spikes and a means of stifling the opponent's Spikes, making Pokemon like Skarmory, Forretress, Magneton, Starmie, and Claydol good teammates. Claydol in particular is desirable for its support in checking many of the same physical attackers as Quagsire while offering more special bulk against the mixed attackers of the tier. Bulky attacking Tyranitar has strong synergy with Quagsire, as its sand helps Quagsire make progress against defensive Celebi, Zapdos, and Water-type Pokemon, while Quagsire all but nullifies its premier counter in Swampert. Physical Tyranitar also switches in on Celebi and Zapdos, while Pursuit Tyranitar can trap Gengar, which counters Quagsire. Blissey offers defensive utility against special and mixed attackers, brings cleric support with Wish or Aromatherapy, and can use Thunder Wave to slow down physical threats. In return, Quagsire is able to handle Sleep Talk Suicune for Tyranitar and Blissey. Metagross is similar to Tyranitar in its usefulness to Quagsire, as it is able to switch into Celebi, draw in bulky Water-type Pokemon, and trade with Zapdos and sometimes Celebi. One must also take care when playing against opposing mixed Metagross, since even Psychic threatens to 2HKO Quagsire lacking significant Special Defense investment.

The UU Swampert, except with Water Absorb. Still, Swampert is better in standard play unless you have a big weakness to Water. Curse up, launch STAB Earthquakes, hit Flying types with Ice Beam or Hidden Power Rock, and Rest when health is low or you've been statused. Chesto Berry is an option, because Quagsire doesn't have quite the staying power of Snorlax and Swampert to Rest without support, though I always use Leftovers.

Counter is awesome on Quagsire. About every Choice Bander in the game, from Aerodactyl to Salamence to Tauros will fail to OHKO Quagsire and be killed by a Counter. You can use Haze to make Quagsire a Suicune counter of sorts, and to force physical attackers to hit you instead of stat up. Toxic is awesome if you're playing UU, since Rest isn't as common there. Last move, either Ice Beam or Surf, is to hit stuff like Gengar and Donphan. Remember, you can counter all Hidden Power, even Hidden Power Grass.

战术分析
You can thank Raikou, Zapdos, and the fairly recent (circa 2009) unbanning of Hidden Power on these Pokemon for Quagsire's emergence as a legitimate threat in GSC OU. The most common Hidden Power types used by Zapdos and Raikou are Ice and Water; Quagsire is neutral to both, which gives it the edge relative to other Ground-types that might be used to check Electric-types. It should be noted that Hidden Power Grass, while hypothetically possible, is rare and leaves the legendary Electric-type Pokemon vulnerable to Nidoking switch-ins. Quagsire walls these Electric-types impeccably, but it also serves as a fantastic mixed wall for threats such as Tyranitar, Dragonite, and Nidoking. Quagsire is also a solid check to Tentacruel, and at decently high health, it can survive a 999 Attack Charizard Earthquake and KO back with Hidden Power Rock. Because of its important defensive capabilities, Rest is recommended on Quagsire so it can keep switching in to wall what it can. However, while Quagsire's walling capabilities are certainly handy, decent mixed walls such as Raikou, Suicune, and Miltank are a dime a dozen. What truly makes Quagsire stand out is its access to Belly Drum. With Belly Drum, Quagsire can threaten to sweep the opposing team, something the aforementioned mixed walls cannot boast. Furthermore, it's capable of setting up Belly Drum safely in the face of the ever-present Hidden Power Zapdos and Raikou, something even the mighty Snorlax cannot accomplish. STAB Earthquake is the main move Quagsire will be using after setting up. Meanwhile, Hidden Power Rock hurts the Flying-types that are immune to Earthquake. After a turn of setup, Hidden Power Rock can OHKO Zapdos and 3HKO Skarmory, one of Quagsire's most prominent checks. It should be noted that unlike other offensive sweepers such as Snorlax and Marowak, Quagsire isn't capable of threatening much of anything without a turn of setup. Quagsire likes support to help it wear down its most prominent checks. Tyranitar with Pursuit is one of the best teammates, as it can be used to snipe Exeggutor, which is otherwise a hard counter for Quagsire. Seismic Toss Heracross and Belly Drum Snorlax are other solid teammates that lure in Skarmory, arguably Quagsire's number one check, and hit it for heavy damage. Quagsire's biggest issues as an offensive contributor are its very low Speed and inability to instantly threaten switch-ins the way Marowak can. For this reason, a lot of general support is essential for Quagsire to ever get an opportunity to sweep. In particular, support from Stun Spore Exeggutor and Body Slam Snorlax helps to target key walls such as Skarmory and Suicune with paralysis and to give Quagsire general paralysis support against "random" Pokemon such as Miltank and Starmie that can otherwise stop a sweep with a little luck. Spikes support is also handy for forcing Pokemon such as Exeggutor and Suicune to Explode or Rest, thereby giving Quagsire an opening to set up Belly Drum. Rapid Spin is essential, too; having to switch into Spikes really limits Quagsire's ability to set up Belly Drum, and unless the field is clear of Spikes, Quagsire can't go for the kill against Water-types that use STAB Surf to put Quagsire at extremely low health after using Belly Drum. Furthermore, Quagsire appreciates Heal Bell support from the likes of Miltank just as the most popular Belly Drum sweeper, Snorlax, does. With Heal Bell support, Quagsire can Rest off any residual damage, then have its sleep turns negated to allow it to switch immediately back in to threaten another Belly Drum sweep. Quagsire is a fantastic teammate for teams that need its defensive talents, too. A team without Raikou definitely appreciates Quagsire's ability to hard-counter Electric-types that lack the rare Hidden Power Grass; Snorlax may be on every team, but Snorlax alone can't take STAB Thunders from Zapdos and Raikou all day. In addition, Quagsire is also an extremely potent mixed wall that counters key offensive threats such as Tyranitar, Nidoking, and Dragonite. Unlike mixed walls such as Miltank and Suicune, Quagsire does not have an exploitable weakness to a move type commonly used by the most prominent mixed attackers in GSC.

Set Description This set works best as a Baton Pass recipient, utilizing boosts to set up with Belly Drum and more consistently sweep. It can also work outside of Baton Pass teams as a bulky setup sweeper that appreciates Heal Bell and paralysis support. Belly Drum is Quagsire's biggest asset, allowing it to do massive damage. Earthquake's STAB and high-Base Power make it a fantastic attack for a Belly Drum user, as it allows Quagsire to deal much more damage both before and after boosting than competing Belly Drum users such as Politoed and Poliwrath. It can threaten Pokemon such as Qwilfish, Nidoqueen, and Haunter significantly even before Belly Drum. After a Belly Drum, Quagsire has a small chance to OHKO even Slowbro, one of the most physically bulky Pokemon available. Hidden Power Rock targets Flying-types that otherwise wall Quagsire such as Scyther, Crobat, and Jumpluff, as well as Pinsir. Sludge Bomb gives coverage for the likes of Bellossom, which otherwise walls Quagsire. Alternatively, Amnesia allows Quagsire to set up on Hypno and Slowbro more reliably and can make Quagsire much more difficult to finish off. It is especially useful when Quagsire is forced to use Belly Drum when under 50% health. Finally, Protect is a solid option, as it allows Quagsire more Leftovers recovery and a way to block Explosion from the likes of Electrode and Haunter. However, remember that dropping Sludge Bomb for these options leaves Quagsire totally walled by Bellossom. Team Options A Baton Pass user is a great option if you plan on running Quagsire. Girafarig can pass a crucial Speed boost with Agility as well as defensive boosts with Amnesia or Curse, which can make it easier to set up. Scyther can supply Speed and Attack boosts, which immediately enhances Quagsire's offensive power. However, Scyther's lack of immediate power leaves it more susceptible to Haze users. Mr. Mime is another useful Baton Pass teammate, as it can threaten Haze users, set up with Barrier, induce paralysis, and lock foes into setup moves with Encore. Politoed and Poliwrath are other good Baton Pass recipients that can assist Quagsire by using Lovely Kiss on Haze users such as Qwilfish, preventing them from ruining a potential sweep. Hypno is also a good teammate, as it can spread paralysis to Quagsire's checks and potentially absorb status. Jumpluff and Bellossom can also spread paralysis. Granbull appreciates the paralysis support that is often paired with Quagsire and can use Lovely Kiss on checks such as Haze Qwilfish.
