Leech Life gives Golisopod the option to heal itself and, more importantly, check Calm Mind Reuniclus and hit Grass-, Psychic-, and Dark-types such as Celebi and Umbreon super effectively after First Impression is used. Aqua Jet makes Golisopod more difficult to revenge kill and able to revenge kill Pokemon such as Chandelure, Salazzle, and Aerodactyl. However, without a strong and reliable STAB move in Liquidation, Golisopod becomes a bit too weak against bulky Pokemon such as Registeel, Klefki, and Escavalier. Knock Off punishes Golisopod's typical switch-ins such as Noivern, Togekiss, and Milotic. In addition, removing Heavy-Duty Boots from grounded switch-ins such as Gastrodon enables Golisopod to wear them down with Spikes. Heavy-Duty Boots gives Golisopod more switch-in opportunities by negating its severe entry hazard weakness. The listed Speed EVs allow Golisopod to outspeed Pokemon with uninvested base 50 Speed such as Diancie, Registeel, and Vileplume. The remaining EVs are dumped into HP, allowing Golisopod to better switch into Metagross's and Flygon's attacks. Golisopod works well on balance and bulky offensive teams that need a reliable revenge killer for common threats such as Xurkitree, Dragon Dance Flygon, and Nasty Plot Celebi and appreciate a reliable Spikes setter. Powerful wallbreakers such as Metagross, Toxtricity, and Gardevoir appreciate Golisopod's Spikes support. In return, they handle troublesome bulky Pokemon such as Vileplume, Galarian Weezing, and Gastrodon. Golisopod finds itself a niche on Water teams thanks to its Spikes and First Impression, which revenge kills threatening Pokemon that can sweep Water-type teams such as Rillaboom, Zarude, and Alolan Raichu. Knock Off helps make progress against bulkier Pokemon that utilize Leftovers such as Celesteela, Ferrothorn, and Tapu Fini, gets rid of Rocky Helmet from Pokemon such as Slowbro, and removes Heavy-Duty Boots from Pokemon such as Victini, making Spikes more potent. Leech Life makes up for Golisopod's lack of recovery and also helps defeat the aforementioned Grass-type sweepers, alongside Psychic-type Pokemon such as Slowbro and Celebi. 172 Speed EVs allow Golisopod to outspeed Celesteela, so it can remove its Leftovers with Knock Off before potentially being forced out by Emergency Exit. Toxapex can switch into Grass-type moves such as Power Whip from Zarude reliably, stops setup sweepers such as Dragonite and Dragapult with Haze, and deals with Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini with Poison Jab. Tapu Fini provides Misty Terrain for its teammates, which helps them deal with the aforementioned Dragon-type sweepers, and Calm Mind Tapu Fini can use chip damage from Golisopod's Spikes and Swampert's Stealth Rock to sweep easily. Volcanion can also be used to deal with Grass- and Steel-type Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Aegislash, which are troublesome defensive Pokemon for Water teams to handle. Due to Golisopod's Spikes being rendered completely useless against Flying teams, Cloyster and Rotom-W make for excellent teammates, as they can easily dismantle Flying teams with Shell Smash and Nasty Plot, respectively. Slowking can switch into Psychic-type attacks from Tapu Lele, Ground-type Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Excadrill, and Garchomp, and also Kyurem's Freeze-Dry. Set Details The given EV spread with an Adamant nature makes Golisopod as powerful and as bulky as it can be while still outpacing uninvested base 50 Speed Pokemon like Registeel and Diancie. Sitrus Berry is the preferred item, since it gives Golisopod a chance to heal itself so it isn't forced out by Emergency Exit as quickly. Clerics and Healing Wish users like Wish Florges, Diancie, and Gardevoir can help keep Golisopod healthy. Steel-type teammates like Metagross, Registeel, and Bronzong are also good teammates to consider, since they can switch directly into Flying-type attacks for Golisopod and take Toxic for it. All of these Pokemon can also make a hazard stacking core with Golisopod, while it can pressure Fire-types such as Salazzle and Arcanine for them in return. Although it can come in against Fighting-types like Machamp and Bewear, Golisopod is still checked by these Pokemon, since it is threatened by their powerful moves and they resist First Impression. Teammates like Noivern, Necrozma, and Gardevoir can help keep these Pokemon in check. Other Pokemon that can threaten Toxicroak out, such as Ninetales, Arcanine, and Swellow, are also appreciated, since Toxicroak completely walls Golisopod.
