Annihilape Movesets & Competitive Sets

Annihilape is a solid setup sweeper due to its good Attack stat, decent bulk, and unresisted STAB combination. It can take advantage of Pokemon such as Corviknight, Blissey, and Clodsire. Bulk Up gives Annihilape the potential to sweep while also making it progressively harder to KO. Taunt allows Annihilape to stay healthy and also stops bulkier Pokemon such as Corviknight, Clodsire, and Toxapex from recovering their health. Rest can alternatively be used with Chesto Berry to get rid of status and recover health, but it fails when Electric Terrain is up. Drain Punch allows Annihilape to recover health and damage foes such as Ting-Lu and Iron Treads. Rage Fist, along with Taunt, makes Annihilape incredibly threatening for slow walls such as Dondozo and Ting-Lu, as their attacks do little damage to Annilhilape while also boosting Rage Fist's power. Tera Water allows Annihilape to take hits from special attackers such as Iron Bundle, Chi-Yu, and Flutter Mane while also letting it resist Flare Blitz from Koraidon. Tera Fairy gives Annihilape an immunity against Dragon-type moves from Koraidon and Miraidon while also letting Annihilape take neutral damage from Ghost-type moves from Gholdengo and Flutter Mane, OHKOing them in return with boosted Rage Fist. Annihilape reaches its full potential on dual screens hyper offense teams, where it can easily take hits while setting up. Special walls such as Ting-Lu and Corviknight are good teammates on balance teams, as Pokemon such as Miraidon, Flutter Mane, and Iron Bundle threaten Annihilape. Corviknight is also able to remove entry hazards for Annihilape. Kingambit as a teammate overwhelms Alomomola and Skeledirge, which are common checks to it and Annihilape. Entry hazard setters such as Glimmora, Froslass, Toxapex, and Clodsire can lure in Corviknight, presenting Annhilape with a great setup opportunity by forcing Corviknight to either use Defog and activate Annihilape's Defiant or give Rage Fist a boost by attacking.

Annihilape finds a good niche in the metagame, as it fares well against Pokemon such as Chi-Yu, Incineroar, and Zamazenta-C. Final Gambit deals immense damage if Annihilape cannot pick up an OHKO. Shadow Claw deals decent damage without needing to be hit like Rage Fist. Coaching has the ability to boost the power of allies like Calyrex-I, while U-turn helps with positioning, chipping Rillaboom in the process. Choice Scarf allows Annihilape to outspeed and deal damage to faster foes such as Calyrex-S, which faints to a Shadow Claw. Tera Grass allows it to ignore Spore and Rage Powder from Amoonguss, which can survive a Final Gambit and support its allies. Choice Scarf Annihilape struggles against strong priority moves like Raging Bolt's Thunderclap and Rillaboom's Grassy Glide, which weaken Final Gambit. Farigiraf is also an issue, as it is a bulky Pokemon that is immune to Shadow Claw, deals great damage to Annihilape with Psychic, and has enough HP to survive a Final Gambit. Calyrex-I is a great partner for Annihilape, as Annihilape is able to either give it a Coaching boost or remove an annoying or powerful foe to Calyrex-I like Zamazenta-C or Calyrex-S with Final Gambit or Shadow Claw, respectively. In return, Calyrex-I is able to threaten Raging Bolt and Rillaboom for great damage. Smeargle is also a favorable partner, as it can redirect attacks away from Annihilape with Follow Me, allowing for a full-HP Final Gambit.

Set Details Annihilape is primarily used in Regulation I to use Final Gambit to trade with an opposing Restricted Pokemon, including tanky metagame staples such as Zamazenta-C, Calyrex-I, and Terapagos, and threaten Calyrex-S and Lunala with an OHKO or heavy damage with its Ghost-type coverage attacks. Shadow Claw immediately pressures an OHKO onto Calyrex-S, whereas Rage Fist will be stronger after Annihilape is hit once; 100-Base Power Rage Fist can KO a Lunala that doesn't have Shadow Shield active. Close Combat is less committal than Final Gambit and can punish Incineroar's Intimidate by dealing huge damage to it after Defiant is activated. Coaching can bolster the offense of teammates such as Calyrex-I and Zamazenta-C while also making them harder to remove; thanks to its boosts, Zamazenta-C with Dauntless Shield active can OHKO Terapagos-S with Body Press the vast majority of the time, while offensive Calyrex-I can OHKO Calyrex-S with Glacial Lance. It also has the added benefit of letting Annihilape avoid Sucker Punch from Chien-Pao. U-turn can let Annihilape bait out Terastallization such as Tera Dark from Calyrex-S and retreat to safety, preserving its health for late in the game. Choice Scarf allows Annihilape to outspeed the majority of the metagame, including Calyrex-S and Miraidon, possibly OHKOing them before they move. It also enables Annihilape to quickly grant Coaching's Attack boost to teammates such as Zamazenta-C and the Urshifu formes before they move. 220 HP EVs are used to guarantee an OHKO on maximum HP Calyrex-I with a full-health Final Gambit. The extra EVs are placed into Attack to improve the chances to OHKO physically defensive Incineroar with +1 Close Combat and Lunala without Shadow Shield active with Shadow Claw. The Speed investment guarantees that Annihilape outspeeds Calyrex-S, Modest Choice Scarf Chi-Yu, and Adamant Choice Scarf Urshifu-R. Tera Dark is helpful against STAB attacks from both Calyrex-S and Lunala, letting Annihilape tank their Ghost-type attacks to boost Rage Fist and threaten to return with an OHKO, while also resisting Sucker Punch from Chien-Pao and granting an immunity to Thunder Wave from Prankster Grimmsnarl. Tera Grass grants an immunity to Spore and ignores Rage Powder, preventing Amoonguss from saving its teammate. It also resists common priority moves such as Grassy Glide from Rillaboom and Thunderclap from Raging Bolt, thus allowing Annihilape to bait attacks into it to boost Rage Fist or keep Final Gambit's damage output higher. Teambuilding Faster threats such as Choice Scarf Miraidon, Speed Booster Energy Flutter Mane, and Speed Booster Energy Roaring Moon can outspeed and OHKO Annihilape before it accomplishes anything or remove enough of its health such that Final Gambit is no longer threatening. The aforementioned priority attacks from Rillaboom and Raging Bolt are likely to cut down Final Gambit's power if Annihilape is not in a position to Terastallize. Follow Me and Rage Powder from the Ogerpon formes and Amoonguss generally will prevent Annihilape from targeting the Restricted Pokemon it would ideally want to trade with. Follow Me from Tera Ghost Smeargle can make Annihilape waste its turns after locking into Final Gambit or Close Combat, forcing it to switch out and lose momentum. Final Gambit does not OHKO Farigiraf or Amoonguss; thus, Annihilape cannot stop them from getting off a Trick Room or Spore on its own. Calyrex-I appreciates Annihilape's Coaching boosts and ability to pressure opposing Calyrex-I and Calyrex-S with an OHKO. In turn, Calyrex-I threatens Rillaboom, Raging Bolt, Roaring Moon, and Amoonguss. Additionally, Calyrex-I provides a Trick Room mode for the team, so Annihilape can round out a faster mode. Miraidon can remove Rillaboom's Grassy Terrain, preventing it from hitting Annihilape with priority-boosted Grassy Glide, while Annihilape can OHKO Rillaboom with Final Gambit to keep Electric Terrain on the field for the game. Annihilape can also OHKO opposing Miraidon, which prevents Miraidon from fainting to their Draco Meteor and allows it to continue using Electric-type attacks. Miraidon can OHKO Farigiraf and dissuade the opponent from bringing Amoonguss due to Electric Terrain hampering Spore.

Annihilape uses its high base HP paired with Final Gambit to trade with and eliminate important bulky metagame threats, such as Porygon2, Archaludon, and some Volcarona. Final Gambit and Taunt make Annihilape one of the most effective counters to Trick Room in the metagame, and the combination of Defiant, a Fake Out immunity, and a STAB-boosted Close Combat makes Annihilape an amazing counter against Incineroar. Final Gambit is the most important move in Annihilape's kit, being able to immediately remove bulky supportive and offensive threats. Coaching can be used to boost teammates like Sneasler and Dragonite. Close Combat allows Annihilape to threaten Incineroar, the Ursaluna formes, and Kingambit without knocking itself out. Rage Fist can stack up Base Power to become a huge threat, as it's able to remove foes like Rillaboom and Primarina in one hit at 250 Base Power. Taunt is a great counter to Trick Room setters like Indeedee-F, Porygon2, and Farigiraf, as well as checking Amoonguss. Safety Goggles makes it easier for Annihilape to remove Pokemon like Porygon2 and Incineroar that are being supported by Amoonguss by bypassing its Spore and Rage Powder, although Amoonguss can still survive Final Gambit. The Focus Sash makes it easier for Annihilape to trade damage with Gholdengo, Ursaluna-B, and opposing Annihilape, ensuring Annihilape can tank a hit and gain power on Rage Fist. The 100 HP EVs allow Final Gambit to OHKO Volcarona, Porygon2, and some Rillaboom. The Speed investment lets Annihilape outspeed Rillaboom, Gholdengo, and Archaludon. The EVs in Attack allow Annihilape to OHKO all Incineroar with Close Combat after a Defiant boost and OHKO Basculegion-M with a 100-Base Power Rage Fist. The immediate value of the glass cannon set is amazing to support its partners and threaten immediate knockouts, although it lacks the ability to completely run through foes that setup Annihilape has. This set also lacks the bulk and support to survive for long, so it struggles more against faster threats like Basculegion-M and Tera Flying Sneasler.

This set allows Annihilape to boost its stats with Bulk Up while gaining Base Power on Rage Fist, giving it the power it needs to sweep through teams. Its Ghost typing and Defiant ability help Annihilape roll over teams unchecked, as it can't be slowed down by Fake Out or Intimidate. It has a very strong matchup against many slower teams that try to pivot to Rillaboom and Incineroar, creating pockets through their passive switches to set up. Rage Fist easily reaches 250 Base Power, giving it an incredible option to OHKO almost any Pokemon that doesn't resist Ghost. Drain Punch hits Pokemon that Rage Fist is ineffective against like Incineroar and Ursaluna-B for big damage while giving Annihilape significant HP recovery, which makes it extremely difficult to knock out. Bulk Up gives Annihilape an Attack boost that is critical for knocking Ammonguss out with a 250-Base Power Rage Fist; it also increases Annihilape's physical bulk enough to give it a chance of surviving 200-Base Power Last Respects from Basculegion-M. Leftovers is more useful in matchups where Annihilape wants to sit on the field the whole game and recover consistently, while Sitrus Berry allows Annihilape to trade damage more aggressively against Pokemon like Ursaluna-B and opposing Annihilape. Tera Fire makes it easier for Annihilape to beat balance teams—giving it better matchups against Rillaboom, Volcarona, Gholdengo, and Alolan Ninetales while also making it immune to burns from Incineroar's Will-O-Wisp and Volcarona's and Magmar's Flame Body. Tera Water gives Annihilape a better matchup against teams centered around rain or sun, granting it crucial resistances to Basculegion-M's Wave Crash and Charizard's Heat Wave as well as removing its weaknesses to Pelipper's Hurricane and Basculegion-M's Last Respects. 180 HP EVs optimize the amount of healing that Annihilape gets from Leftovers and Grassy Terrain while giving it enough bulk to survive key attacks like Sneasler's Acrobatics and Ursaluna-B's Blood Moon with Maushold's Friend Guard active. The Attack EVs allow Annihilape to OHKO Tyranitar with Drain Punch, as well as giving it a good chance to OHKO most Rillaboom with 250-Base Power Rage Fist. Maximum Speed allows Annihilape to run over slower balance teams, letting it outspeed Gholdengo, Rillaboom, and Volcarona in order to OHKO them. Taunt: Taunt helps you deal with annoying support Pokemon like Whirlwind Ting-Lu, Thunder Wave Archaludon, and Hippowdon to mention a few, forcing them to attack and boost Rage Fist. This can work on Toxapex, but be warned that Toxapex commonly carries Mental Herb, which could get Annihilape poisoned if it doesn't Terastallize. Encore: Encore is an interesting alternative to Taunt, not able to directly shut down defensive answers to Annihilape, but it severely punishes them when Annihilape switches into a support move. Defiant versus Vital Spirit: Defiant is the best option for this set, stopping Charm Flutter Mane from eeking out a win, and punishing common ways of dropping Annihilape's Attack such as Intimidate Landorus-T and Breaking Swipe Gouging Fire. Vital Spirit is easier to stop, but, it lets Annihilape can absorb sleep moves from foes like Yawn Ursaluna-B, Yawn Hippowdon, and Spore Breloom without needing Taunt. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: Terastallization is quite helpful at saving Annihilape from certain extremely powerful wallbreakers such as Chien-Pao, Chi-Yu, and Flutter Mane, but Annihilape is perfectly functional without it. Poison: Tera Poison offers a better matchup against Flutter Mane, does well against Meowscarada's Flower Trick, and lets Annihilape freely switch into Toxic and Toxic Spikes later in the match. This also drastically reduces the risk of Taunting Toxapex, which makes this Tera type a menace against stall teams! Fire: In addition to giving a useful resistance to Fairy-, Fire-, and Ice-type attacks from dangerous foes like Flutter Mane, Ogerpon-H, and Chien-Pao, Tera Fire also protects Annihilape from burns. Water: Tera Water is a fantastic response to Urshifu-R, who otherwise can use Tera Water Surging Strikes to break through Annihilape regardless of Bulk Up boosts. It also works great against Chien-Pao and Chi-Yu, two powerful wallbreakers. Steel: Steel turns Annihilape's Psychic , Flying,and Fairy weakness into resistances, as well as being an excellent defensive type overall. It lets Annihilape deal with foes like Flutter Mane, Latios, and Iron Crown far more effectively at the cost of having issues with Ogerpon-H and Urshifu formes. Flying: Flying is an effective Tera against stall teams for avoiding Fissure from Dondozo , forcing it to attack with moves that boost Rage Fist. Items Leftovers: Leftovers's residual recovery eases the long-game of setting up. Sitrus Berry and 244 HP EVs: Reducing the HP EVs to 244 gives Annihilape an even HP stat, which lets Annihilape recover its health with Sitrus Berry the moment it gets hit by Ruination. This makes dealing with Ting-Lu and Wo-Chien an easier task. Covert Cloak: Covert Cloak makes Annihilape immune to being Salt Cured, making it a great check against Garganacl if using Taunt to prevent the deadly Tera Ghost Curse. It also gives peace of mind, avoiding potential flinches from Chien-Pao and Chi-Yu, or Special Defense drops from Flutter Mane's Shadow Ball. EV Spreads 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe with Jolly: Maximum Speed mainly helps Annihilape outspeed Timid Archaludon, Timid Gholdengo, Adamant Urshifu formes, and Modest Chi-Yu. The 4 Special Defense EVs are just enough to avoid being OHKOed by Timid Flutter Mane's Moonblast. 252 HP / 244 SpD / 12 Spe with Careful: More special bulk can make it much more difficult for special attackers such as Flutter Mane and Chi-Yu to revenge kill Annihilape. This spread in particular has a 62.5% chance of surviving Timid Choice Specs Flutter Mane's Moonblast. 244 HP / 164 Def / 100 SpD with Careful: This EV spread avoids an OHKO from +2 Chien-Pao, which can be especially helpful with Covert Cloak blocking the flinch chance. 252 HP / 156 SpD / 100 Spe with Careful: This EV spread outspeeds Adamant Breloom while still giving Annihilape good special bulk.

This set's write-up has not started yet, but here's some basic info to get you started! 252 HP / 76 Atk / 180 Spe with Jolly: This spread outspeeds Jolly Dragonite and survives Timid Choice Specs Flutter Mane's Moonblast. 244 HP / 196 SpD / 68 Spe with Careful: This survives Timid Choice Specs Flutter Mane's Tera-boosted Moonblast on all but the highest damage roll, while outspeeding Jolly Ogerpon formes after a Speed drop from Rock Tomb.

Thanks to Final Gambit and a decent Speed stat, Choice Scarf Annihilape can cause shocking upsets by revenge killing even bulky sweepers, such as Dragonite and Gouging Fire! Shadow Claw versus Rage Fist: Shadow Claw is weak, but it's a reliable Ghost-type STAB move that can reliably OHKO offensive Flutter Mane even when using minimum Attack investment. Rage Fist is still preferred for being the more flexible option though, letting Annihilape potentially clean a weakened team if Final Gambit doesn't work out. Defiant: While Vital Spirit's Sleep immunity increases Annihilape's switch-in potential, Defiant is the better ability for protecting it from being set up on by Charm Flutter Mane. U-turn U-turn turns Annihilape into a reasonable pivot and gets it out of unpredictable lead situations against unpredictable early-game offensive foes like Chien-Pao and Dragonite, though this will often lead your opponent to assume Annihilape is holding Choice Scarf even against naturally slower Pokemon. Stealth Rock: Stealth Rock is risky on a Choice Scarf Pokemon, but it can be useful early-game if Annihilape leads against foes it commonly scares out like Ting-Lu. Encore: Encore is an emergency way to punish set-up Pokemon Annihilape can switch into, such as Dragonite and Urshifu-S. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Low: Since Annihilape often sacrifices itself with Final Gambit, Terastallization should only be done if Final Gambit isn't the path to winning the match, and is usually better with Rage Fist's increased late-game potential. Water: Tera Water stops Choice Scarf Urshifu-R from OHKOing Annihilape with Tera Water Surging Strikes, potentially turning a check into a sweeping vector with the now 200 BP Rage Fist! Steel: Tera Steel covers Annihilape's weakness to Fairy, Psychic, and Flying, all weaknesses that some potentially faster Speed boosted threats like Booster Energy Flutter Mane, Choice Scarf Landorus-T, and Choice Scarf Latios seek to exploit. Normal: Tera Normal gives Annihilape an immunity to Ghost-type attacks, potentially getting it a revenge kill against a bulky Flutter Mane it wouldn't otherwise. Ghost: While not very useful defensively, Tera Ghost seriously juices up Rage Fist's late-game sweeping potential, while still maintaining an important Normal-type priority immunity against Dragonite, Ogerpon-H, and Entei.

Annihilape's great bulk, fearsome offensive presence with Rage Fist, and wide support movepool make it an unpredictable and dangerous foe early-game! Stealth Rock: Annihilape is among the most reliable offensive setters of Stealth Rock in the metagame, though it isn't required for Annihilape to be an effective early-game Pokemon for every team. Final Gambit: Annihilape's impressive HP stat makes Final Gambit into a powerful KO trading tool, being able to take out bulky foes like Dragonite, Garganacl, Hippowdon, and Stamina Archaludon. Make sure to run at least 236 HP EVs when using Final Gambit to OHKO Hippowdon. Rock Tomb: Rock Tomb is an excellent Speed control option for its ability to punish Dragonite, Ogerpon-H, and Gouging Fire. Taunt: Taunt gives Annihilape a strong matchup into bulky support Pokemon such as Ting-Lu and Archaludon. Fling and Light Ball: This gives Annihilape a chance to paralyze a foe, including Gholdengo that lack Covert Cloak, and turn the tables on fast Focus Sash foes like Flutter Mane and Urshifu formes. Other Options Close Combat: If using Focus Sash, Close Combat's Defense drop isn't as devastating, though it leaves more offensive Annihilape vulnerable to getting revenge killed by multi-hit users like Urshifu-R and Loaded Dice Scale Shot foes like Dragonite, Gouging Fire, and Garchomp. Encore: Encore is an incredibly powerful move that can lock the opponent into an attacking move to boost Rage Fist's power. Alternatively, it can lock the opponent into a status move. Curse: This is an excellent way for Annihilape to retire itself from the battle while putting significant pressure on the opponent to switch out and shutting down gimmicks such as Baton Pass. Endeavor: When paired with Focus Sash, Endeavor lets Annihilape massive amounts of damage before going down, though Annihilape's own bulk can lessen its effectiveness. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Low: This Annihilape is often used quite early in the game so Terastallization is often not needed unless it must check a specific threat. Fire: Beyond offering a valuable Fairy resistance, the Ice and Fire resistances make Chien-Pao, Ogerpon-H, and Chi-Yu easier to deal with. Steel: Tera Steel has excellent defensive synergy with Annihilape thanks to the Fairy resistance and doing particularly well on spreads that are faster than -1 Chien-Pao to move before Sacred Sword lands. Water: Tera Water lets Annihilape withstand Urshifu-R's Tera Water Surging Strike with any item on either Pokemon. Poison: Tera Poison has a good matchup against Flutter Mane, and lets Annihilape deal with Toxic and Toxic Spikes without needing to Taunt or worry about Toxapex's Mental Herb. Abilities Defiant: Defiant gives Annihilape the widest variety of winning match-ups, doing great against Intimidate Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Incineroar, punishing common Speed control foes like Rock Tomb Ogerpon-H, and ensuring that Charm Flutter Mane will not set up on Annihilape. Vital Spirit: Vital Spirit adds to Annihilape’s flexibility against dangerous sleep inducers such as Yawn Ursaluna-B and Spore Breloom. Inner Focus: This niche ability prevents flinches from Chien-Pao and Dragonite from happening, as well as stopping an Attack drop from Intimidate. Items Sitrus Berry: Sitrus Berry can be used with specialized spreads to avoid certain 2HKOs and protect Annihilape from Urshifu-R's Tera-boosted Surging Strikes.
