Ursaluna (Bloodmoon) Movesets & Competitive Sets

Ursaluna-B has great offensive prowess thanks to its STAB combination, threatening Pokemon like Raging Bolt, Miraidon, Incineroar, and Calyrex-S with its Normal / Ground typing and Mind's Eye ability. Blood Moon is used to OHKO Pokemon like Urshifu-R and Ogerpon-W, while Hyper Voice is a consistent Normal-type STAB spread move that can be used while Blood Moon is disabled. Earth Power threatens Pokemon like Incineroar, Miraidon, Raging Bolt, and Gholdengo while also pressuring Pokemon that run Tera Fire like Calyrex-I and Rillaboom. Life Orb allows Ursaluna-B to pick up OHKOs on Pokemon like Urshifu-R with Tera Normal Hyper Voice, while it lets Earth Power OHKO Gholdengo as well as Zacian-C. A Timid nature allows Ursaluna-B to outspeed Pokemon like Calyrex-S, Choice Scarf Urshifu-R, and Miraidon in Tailwind and threaten huge damage. Tera Normal is used to amplify Ursaluna-B's damage, allowing for guaranteed OHKOs on Flutter Mane, Amoonguss, and Incineroar, and Calyrex-S with Blood Moon while also becoming neutral to previously super effective attacks like Surging Strikes from Urshifu-R and Wood Hammer from Rillaboom. Trick Room teams with slower Pokemon like Amoonguss create trouble for Ursaluna-B, as it can put it to sleep with Spore. Ursaluna-B also faces difficulty against Urshifu-S and Chien-Pao, as both utilize Focus Sash to survive one hit and OHKO Ursaluna-B with Close Combat and Icicle Crash respectively. Iron Hands is a good partner for Ursaluna-B, as it is able to easily tank the attacks from Urshifu-S and Chien-Pao and slow their momentum down with Fake Out. Pokemon with Prankster Tailwind like Whimsicott make for strong partners, allowing Ursaluna-B to take full advantage of its Timid nature, helping it outspeed Calyrex-S and Choice Scarf Urshifu-R. Farigiraf is a great partner for Ursaluna-B thanks to its ability to set up Trick Room for more flexibility and negate Fake Out with Armor Tail. Miraidon synergizes well with Ursaluna-B due to its immunity to Discharge while also preventing the aforementioned Spore from affecting Ursaluna-B thanks to Electric Terrain. It also OHKOes Urshifu-R and brings Pokemon like Mienshao down to their Focus Sash, helping Ursaluna-B sweep more easily.

Hyper Voice provides Ursaluna-B with a more spammable Normal-type STAB attack, especially during Blood Moon's cooldown. Life Orb is recommended, as it provides Ursaluna-B with a boost to its attacks, and Ursaluna-B doesn't mind the recoil due to its great bulk and ability to consistently move first under Trick Room. The given EV spread lets it live a Tera Fairy Moonblast from a Special Attack Booster Energy Flutter Mane. 0 Speed IVs and a Quiet nature allow it to function better under Trick Room. Ursaluna-B may opt for an EV spread of 84 HP / 252 SpA / 172 Spe to outspeed Adamant Chien-Pao under Tailwind. Tera Normal can be used to boost the damage output of Blood Moon and Hyper Voice to nuclear levels.

Leftovers Ursaluna-B can slowly stall and weaken foes with its solid bulk, access to a sleep move, and a form of recovery. Yawn is a great way of slowing down and threatening sleep on setup sweepers such as Volcarona and Annihilape, forcing them to switch. This synergizes well with Protect, keeping Ursaluna-B safe right after using Yawn as the foe falls asleep the next turn. Yawn and Blood Moon also have some synergy, as a drowsy foe is tempted to switch to avoid sleeping, giving Ursaluna-B a chance to deal a good chunk of damage for free with Blood Moon. Ursaluna-B appreciates Leftovers when stalling foes with Yawn, as it provides passive recovery when Ursaluna-B uses Protect. Leftovers can also be paired with Rillaboom's Grassy Terrain, providing a stronger and secure form of recovery. Tera Electric grants a resistance against Gholdengo's Make It Rain as well as a neutrality to Fighting- and Water-type attacks like Sneasler and Annihilape's Close Combats, Pelipper's Weather Ball, and Rillaboom and Sinistcha's Grass-type attacks. Tera Electric also retains Ursaluna-B's good matchup against Electric-type moves, most notably Electro Shot from Archaludon. On the other hand, Tera Water resists Water-type attacks from Basculegion-M and Pelipper unlike Tera Electric, but it gives Ursaluna-B a weakness to Electro Shot from Archaludon. The HP and Defense investment guarantees Ursaluna-B's survival against Jolly Sneasler's Close Combat, and with the Special Defense investment, Ursaluna-B can survive devastating special attacks like Life Orb Hatterene's Expanding Force under Psychic Terrain, +2 Gholdengo's Make It Rain, and Choice Specs Alolan Ninetales's Ice Beam. The combination of Yawn and Leftover's slow HP recovery can be quite overwhelming if the opponent isn't cautious, letting Ursaluna-B chip foes for its teammates to secure KOs or put foes to sleep, allowing Ursaluna-B's teammates to safely attack or set up. Taunt and Encore can disturb Ursaluna-B's strategy of using Yawn and Protect, ruining its main form of pressure. This set's attacks also aren't quite as threatening as others due to the lack of investment and Life Orb, making Ursaluna-B far easier to switch into.

With an Assault Vest, Ursaluna-B can fix its poor Special Defense, giving itself more opportunities to switch in and stay out longer on the field to dish out more damage. Vacuum Wave grants Ursaluna-B a reliable priority move that can pick off weakened foes while also dealing good chunks of damage against Kingambit, Gholdengo, Archaludon, and opposing Ursaluna-B. Tera Water grants Ursaluna-B helpful resistances to Gholdengo's Make It Rain, Charizard and Torkoal's devastating Fire-type attacks, and Basculegion-M and Pelipper's Water-type attacks while becoming neutral to Sneasler's and Annilhilape's Close Combats. Tera Ghost provides an immunity to Fighting-type attacks like Archaludon's Body Press and Tyranitar's Low Kick as well as a neutrality to Rillaboom's Grass-type attacks. It also grants an immunity to Fake Out from Incineroar and Rillaboom, which is especially important because Assault Vest Ursaluna-B cannot use Protect. However, Tera Ghost makes Ursaluna-B vulnerable to Ghost- and Dark-type attacks from Gholdengo, Basculegion-M, Incineroar, and Kingambit. The HP and Defense investment is enough to let Ursaluna-B almost always survive a Close Combat from Jolly Sneasler, and with the special bulk investment and Assault Vest, Ursaluna-B can survive powerful special moves it wouldn't otherwise, such as opposing Life Orb Ursaluna-B's Blood Moon, +2 Life Orb Gholdengo's Make It Rain, Choice Specs Charizard's Heat Wave under sun, and Torkoal's Eruption under sun. The Speed investment helps Ursaluna-B outspeed uninvested Incineroar and, in Tailwind, non-Choice Scarf Hisuian Typhlosion. The Special Attack investment enables Earth Power to OHKO uninvested Gholdengo and almost always OHKO Tera Fire or Steel Garchomp with low bulk investment. Thanks to Assault Vest, Ursaluna-B can do much better against special attackers like Gholdengo and Archaludon it would've feared otherwise and inflict consistent damage back with its effective Normal- and Ground-type coverage. Becuase it lacks Protect, Assault Vest Ursaluna-B can be chipped down for foes to KO; most notably, flinching to Fake Out can leave Ursaluna-B vulnerable to other attacks. Assault Vest Ursaluna-B also has a loss of damage output due to dropping Life Orb, becoming less of an immediate threat.

Ursaluna-B is a powerful damage dealer that can break through teams with its STAB moves, which are reinforced by Mind's Eye and Life Orb, smashing through foes like Annihilape and opposing Ursaluna-B with Blood Moon. Blood Moon can rip apart more defensive teams and cleanly OHKO less bulkier Pokemon such as Garchomp, while Hyper Voice is a spread move that still can really hit frailer foes such as Sneasler, Pelipper, and Whimsicott hard. Wide Guard can block Hyper Voice, but Blood Moon being a single-target attack can get around this. Ursaluna-B can also utilize Hyper Voice on turns where it can't use Blood Moon to further threaten foes. Earth Power OHKOes or heavily damages Steel-types, which resist Ursaluna-B's Normal-type moves, such as Gholdengo, Archaludon, and Kingambit. Life Orb lets Ursaluna-B achieve OHKOs against bulkier Pokemon such as opposing non-Assault Vest Ursaluna-B with Blood Moon and non-Assault Vest Kingambit with Earth Power. Tera Normal removes Ursaluna-B's Grass- and Water-type weaknesses against Rillaboom, Basculegion-M, and Pelipper while letting Ursaluna-B OHKO the latter two of the aforementioned Pokemon with Blood Moon and 2HKO opposing Ursaluna-B with Hyper Voice. Both EV spreads have maximum Special Attack investment with a Modest Nature, maximizing Ursaluna-B's damage potential. The first spread's Speed investment is used to outspeed Adamant Dragapult under Tailwind, while the second spread is preferred on slower teams that utilize Trick Room instead of Tailwind. Any remaining EVs in both spreads were invested to maximize bulk. Life Orb Ursaluna-B has incredible damage potential; it's capable of obliterating most Pokemon, including its checks if they aren't careful. Life Orb Ursaluna-B relies heavily on speed control to do its job; it can easily be threatened by much faster threats such as Dondozo, Sneasler, boosted Gholdengo, and Alolan Ninetales without said speed control. Life Orb Ursaluna-B also doesn't invest in much bulk as other sets in favor of power, so it can be tricky to find opportunities to bring Ursaluna-B onto the field without taking a huge chunk of damage.

Life Orb boosts Ursaluna-B's already immense wallbreaking power, allowing it to pick up KOs on Pokemon it would normally be shy of OHKOing such as Landorus and Gholdengo. Protect provides Ursaluna-B with a way to stall out remaining Tailwind or Trick Room turns, which can be crucial for momentum and offensive pressure. Tera Normal is the premier choice for Life Orb Ursaluna-B, boosting STAB attacks for more damage and removing weaknesses to Ice, Water, and Grass; however, it keeps its weakness to Fighting, making it vulnerable to foes like Iron Hands. Tera Ghost provides an important Fake Out and Fighting immunity but makes Ursaluna-B weaker to common threats like Chien-Pao and Chi-Yu and reduces overall damage output compared to Tera Normal. Tera Ghost is also beneficial because common threats like Iron Hands, Diancie, and Ursaluna can underspeed Ursaluna-B in Trick Room, so it benefits from an immunity to Fighting- and Normal-type moves from these Pokemon. Speed control is a necessity due to its low Speed. Pokemon like Sinistcha, Diancie, and Cresselia provide Trick Room, and Roaring Moon and Tornadus set Tailwind to help Ursaluna-B's offensive pressure. The first EV spread allows Ursaluna-B to outspeed both the Ogerpon formes and Tornadus in Tailwind, as well as survive an Adamant Icicle Crash from Chien-Pao and Heat Wave from Modest Tera Fire Chi-Yu. No Speed investment allows Ursaluna-B to underspeed most common threats in the tier and should be run on Trick Room sets. However, Iron Hands, Diancie, and Ursaluna can underspeed it in Trick Room.

Assault Vest allows Ursaluna-B to enhance its immense natural bulk and improve matchups against faster special attackers like Gholdengo, Chi-Yu, and Landorus. Vacuum Wave priority allows Ursaluna-B to pick off Pokemon that commonly run Focus Sash like Chi-Yu, Tornadus, and Chien-Pao, threatening an OHKO on the latter after any Stealth Rock or Fake Out chip damage. Vacuum Wave also allows Ursaluna-B to maneuver around Sucker Punch users like Chien-Pao and Kingambit, which it 2HKOes. The best Tera types for Assault Vest Ursaluna-B are Ghost, Fairy, and Normal. Tera Ghost provides an important Fake Out and Fighting immunity, while Fairy is a strong defensive option for teams that may be weak to Chien-Pao and other Dark-types. Tera Normal boosts its already strong STAB moves, allowing it to OHKO Sinistcha, Ogerpon-W, and Dragonite after Stealth Rock chip damage. Sinistcha is a natural partner, providing healing and redirection for attacks that would threaten Ursaluna-B, such as Iron Hands's Fighting-type moves and Ogerpon-W's STAB moves after Terastallization. Ogerpon-W is a common partner due to its ability to redirect opposing attacks and its Water immunity. Speed control is a necessity with Ursaluna-B due to its low Speed tier. Pokemon like Sinistcha and Tornadus provide Trick Room or Tailwind to help its offensive pressure. The first EV spread allows Ursaluna-B to outspeed Tornadus and the Ogerpon formes in Tailwind. 100 HP EVs with the help of Assault Vest allow it to survive +2 Make It Rain from Gholdengo, Overheat from Modest Chi-Yu, and Icicle Crash from Adamant Chien-Pao. On more Trick Room-dominant teams, Ursaluna-B can opt to run no Speed EVs and invest fully in its HP.

Ursaluna-B is an unusual combination of wallbreaker and physical wall, leveraging its outstanding bulk with Fluffy to check important threats like Roaring Moon and Kingambit, set up with Calm Mind, and break open defensive cores that usually cannot slow pivot against it with boosted Blood Moon. With Fluffy, it can even tank hits from Zamazenta and Great Tusk and OHKO back with Blood Moon. Water Absorb is an alternative that lets it block Flip Turn from Swampert and Primarina, turn Manaphy into setup fodder, and check Choice Specs Primordial Sea users, but makes it much less reliable of a physical check. Blood Moon and Earth Power have excellent neutral coverage, letting it run both Calm Mind and Moonlight to set up comfortably on more passive teams. With 13 Speed IVs, it underspeeds level 99 Corviknight; this turns what would be a reliable pivot into setup fodder, as Corviknight cannot Roost or pivot safely without the switch-in risking a Blood Moon. Ursaluna-B fits well on balance and offensive teams, as it provides a notable defensive presence while still putting pressure on or holes in opposing teams. Faster special attackers like Deoxys-S, Zapdos, and Gholdengo appreciate Ursaluna-B wearing down and potentially breaking through common shared checks like RegenVest Manaphy. Even physical attackers benefit from it, as Corviknight and Great Tusk will commonly come in on it to recover or attempt to revenge kill it, only to find themselves chipped, KOed, or set up on. Ursaluna-B's special bulk is very poor, even with a Calm Mind up, so solid specially defensive teammates like its own RegenVest Manaphy are highly appreciated. Due to Fluffy's drawbacks, Ursaluna-B is unable to check some common physical attackers, especially the Ogerpon formes, Chien-Pao, and Pyro Ball Cinderace; at least one other reliable secondary physically defensive Pokemon like Pecharunt, Corviknight, or Regenerator Primarina is near-mandatory. Ursaluna-B is unable to hit Earth Eater / Levitate Ghost-types like Pecharunt and Gholdengo, so a Dark-type like Roaring Moon or Ting-Lu is also recommended.

With its great bulk, power, and coverage thanks to high-powered Normal-type STAB moves and amazing ability in Mind’s Eye, Ursaluna-B is a formidable special attacker. Blood Moon: Blood Moon gives Ursaluna-B incredibly high neutral damage. It's a great way to cover a switch or predicted Terastallization, but it requires some forethought to maximize efficiency because it cannot be used on consecutive turns. Vacuum Wave: Vacuum Wave is highly valuable for revenge killing foes, notably hitting Chien-Pao. It can hit Calyrex-S due to Mind's Eye. Earth Power: Earth Power gives great coverage against the Steel-types that resist Blood Moon, making Ursaluna-B nearly unwallable except by non-grounded Steel-types like Corviknight. Hyper Voice: Hyper Voice is a more spammable Normal-type STAB move that can bypass Substitute, allowing Ursaluna-B to thwart attempts to Substitute stall out Blood Moon, like Tera Garganacl. Items Assault Vest: Assault Vest remedies Ursaluna-B's middling Special Defense, allowing this slow but hard-hitting Pokemon to survive longer. Silk Scarf: Silk Scarf can be used instead of Assault Vest to boost the power of Ursaluna-B’s Normal-type STAB attacks, making it more difficult to switch into, though this makes match-ups against special attackers like Flutter Mane shakier. Life Orb: If using Ursaluna-B on a Trick Room team, Life Orb can be worth the recoil for the highest possible chance of sweeping. Focus Sash: Focus Sash may sound absurd with Ursaluna-B's bulk, but it can allow more offensive variants to turn the tables on extremely powerful Special Attackers like Choice Specs Flutter Mane, and more easily justify faster EV spreads. Assault Vest EV Spreads 36 HP / 228 SpA / 244 SpD with Modest: This spread survives an opposing Life Orb Ursaluna-B's Tera Normal Blood Moon. 100 HP / 164 SpA / 244 SpD with Modest: This spread survives Timid Tera Water Iron Bundle's Hydro Pump, even if Ursaluna-B doesn't Terastallize! 244 HP / 52 Def / 196 SpA / 12 SpD / 4 Spe with Modest: This spread will never be OHKOed by Adamant Choice Scarf Urshifu-R's Surging Strikes unless it Terastallizes. Other Item EV Spreads 148 HP / 4 Def / 132 SpA / 220 SpD / 4 Spe with Modest: This EV spread gives Ursaluna-B enough bulk to survive Tera boosted Choice Specs Timid Flutter Mane's Moonblast on all but the highest damage roll, as well as the same odds for surviving Jolly Urshifu-R's Close Combat. If used with paralysis support, 32 EVs can be moved from Special Attack to Speed to outspeed paralyzed Modest Chi-Yu. 20 HP / 4 Def / 172 SpA / 60 SpD / 252 Spe with Timid This outspeeds up to -1 Speed Garchomp, and also often outspeeds Pokemon that focus on bulk such as Dragonite, Scizor, and Primarina. The defensive EVs survive Choice Specs Timid Flutter Mane's Moonblast and Life Orb Adamant Chien-Pao's Sacred Sword if Ursaluna-B sticks with Tera Normal. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: Ursaluna-B often uses Terastallization to compensate for its lackluster defensive typing; however, it is often capable of functioning without Tera. Because many different Tera types are viable on it, it can play guessing games with opponents. Normal: Tera Normal removes all weaknesses associated with Ursaluna-B’s Ground typing and boosts Blood Moon to phenomenal levels of power, making it ideal on Trick Room teams. Fairy: Tera Fairy allows Ursaluna-B to handle the Urshifu formes and Choice Band Dragon-types like Dragonite and Koraidon better while generally being a very solid defensive Tera type. Poison: Tera Poison improves Ursaluna-B’s matchup against Flutter Mane, all Ogerpon formes' Horn Leech, and all Urshifu formes, while preventing Toxic from wearing Ursaluna-B down. Water: Tera Water allows Ursaluna-B to fare better against the likes of Urshifu-R, Chien-Pao, and Chi-Yu.

Yawn doesn't transform Ursaluna-B into just a mere support Pokemon. When used in conjunction with Blood Moon, the bloodmoon beast becomes a master of putting offensive teams between a rock and a hard place: either the opponent's check falls asleep, or they switch out and something far less suited against Ursaluna-B gets shredded by Blood Moon! Moonlight: Moonlight will require sacrificing either coverage or priority, but it makes Ursaluna-B far longer lasting and less vulnerable to lures like Grass Knot Landorus-T. It's a particularly strong choice on teams with strong hit-and-run Pokemon like Choice Specs Flutter Mane. Vacuum Wave: While not amazingly powerful, Vacuum Wave is lovely for picking off Chien-Pao and cleaning up late-game in general. This is to the point where giving up reliable recovery can make sense for some more offensive teams that often can't afford to switch Ursaluna-B out often. Leftovers versus Sitrus Berry: Leftovers is best paired with Moonlight, giving Ursaluna-B maximum longevity. If using Vacuum Wave, Sitrus Berry's quicker burst of recovery suits Ursaluna-B better and provides a better matchup against Urshifu-R. Sitrus Berry is also a reasonable alternative to Leftovers if another teammate needs it. EV Spread: The HP investment ensures Annihilape will not OHKO Ursaluna-B with Final Gambit, and the Defense EVs stop Choice Band Tera Water Urshifu-R from OHKOing Terastallized Ursaluna-B. This spread survives Modest Choice Scarf Chi-Yu's Overheat and Tera-boosted Moonblast from Timid Choice Specs Flutter Mane on all but the highest damage roll. Offensively, the Special Attack EVs ensure that Blood Moon OHKOes offensive Urshifu formes. Other Options 20 Speed EVs: 20 Speed EVs let Ursaluna-B outspeed paralyzed Adamant Urshifu formes at the cost of some bulk. This may seem to conflict with Yawn, but paralysis is often a viable secondary playstyle for teams with this set to deal with more offensive threats. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: Ursaluna-B's typing is fairly good, but its weakness to common threats like Chien-Pao and Urshifu-R means Terastallization is often needed. Poison: Tera Poison has excellent synergy with Ursaluna-B's playstyle, not only granting it an important resistance to Urshifu-R's Close Combat and Flutter Mane's Moonblast but also ensuring that poison status will not wear it down. Fairy: Tera Fairy doesn't help against Flutter Mane, but it does transform Ursaluna-B into a very strong Urshifu-S check, in addition to avoiding Choice Specs Miraidon's wrath. Normal: Tera Normal only helps defensively against Ice, Grass, and Water types, but the power boost to Blood Moon makes Ursaluna-B far more difficult to wall, with defensive Primarina in particular usually being put into Earth Power's KO range. Water: Tera Water offers a useful Ice resistance to flip Chien-Pao matchups more easily, but it doesn't help against Raging Bolt and Grass Knot users like Landorus-T.

Backed by Terastallization, Ursaluna-B can use its incredible physical bulk to wall even the mighty Koraidon! Moonlight: Under Koraidon's sun, Moonlight's increased recovery makes Ursaluna-B that much harder to topple! Earth Power: Earth Power is strong against Steel-types like Scizor and Archaludon that otherwise resist Blood Moon, and it's also super effective against many of Koraidon's most popular Tera types. Hyper Voice: While it doesn't provide extra coverage, Hyper Voice is the best option to prevent Substitute Gliscor from completely shutting down Ursaluna-B. Vacuum Wave: Vacuum Wave is a solid option for picking off weakened threats, especially Chien-Pao and Chi-Yu. Calm Mind: Weaker physical attackers like Assault Vest Koraidon provide great opportunities to set up with Calm Mind. EV Spread: With full defensive investment and a neutral Tera type, a five-hit Scale Shot from +2 Koraidon only has about a 25% chance to OHKO. Even without Terastallization, this Ursaluna-B is so bulky that Adamant Chien-Pao's Icicle Crash into Ice Shard only has about a 6.25% chance to knock out Ursaluna-B! The leftover EVs are usually allocated to Speed; keep in mind that Ursaluna-B often Speed creeps, so reallocating some EVs for even a few more points in Speed can be useful in the mirror matchup. Items Rocky Helmet: Rocky Helmet punishes many common attacks from Koraidon and Zacian-C, though Scale Shot from Koraidon is a notable exception. Sitrus Berry: Sitrus Berry's burst recovery can be useful against Swords Dance Koraidon, guaranteeing that Ursaluna-B survives a +2 Scale Shot at five hits even if one of the hits is a critical hit. Tera Types Tera Dependency - High: Ursaluna-B has to change its typing in order to properly take on Koraidon and other physical threats it targets. Fire: Tera Fire deters Koraidon from spamming its destructive Tera Fire Flare Blitz while remaining neutral against its powerful STAB attacks. Beyond that, it helps Ursaluna-B wall a litany of other physical threats like Calyrex-I, Zacian-C that lack an appropriate Tera Blast, Ogerpon-H, and Assault Vest Rillaboom. The Fairy-type resistance is also excellent against Flutter Mane, a common Koraidon teammate. Water: Compared to Tera Fire, Tera Water is an alternative for resisting Koraidon's Flare Blitz that doesn't sacrifice Ground-type matchups like Landorus-T. It also helps Ursaluna-B against Urshifu-R when used against other types of teams. But without Tera Fire's Fairy-type resistance, Flutter Mane becomes harder to withstand if Ursaluna-B is not running Calm Mind, and Grass-types such as Ogerpon and Rillaboom will be much more threatening.

With its immense defensive profile and access to reliable recovery, Ursaluna-B lends itself very well to a Calm Mind set. Blood Moon: Even though the cool down time can be annoying for a Calm Mind set, the massive amount of power is still strongly recommended for being able to OHKO Urshifu-R without a boost using the given EV spread. Other Options Taunt: Taunt can be used to shut down utility moves and attempts to stall out Ursaluna-B from the likes of Ting-Lu and slow Dragonite.
