Urshifu Movesets & Competitive Sets

Close Combat hits common Dark-resistant Pokemon such as Incineroar and Kingambit. Sucker Punch provides priority and makes up for Urshifu-S's average Speed tier. Urshifu-S uses Tera Dark to fire off strong Wicked Blows or Tera Stellar to boost the damage output of its STAB moves. Tera-boosted Close Combat OHKOes common Incineroar at -1 Attack, and both Tera types will allow Urshifu-S to OHKO Flutter Mane, provided its boost is still intact for Dark-type moves. Focus Sash allows Urshifu-S to survive any one attack, making up for its poor defensive typing. In contrast to Choice items, it gives Urshifu-S the freedom to switch moves and use Detect when threatened, which is especially strong against Fake Out leads. The extra EVs in Defense are to maximize Urshifu-S's chance of surviving a use of Surging Strikes from Tera Water Mystic Water Urshifu-R.

Choice Band is used to guarantee an OHKO on common targets like Landorus, Ogerpon-H, Flutter Mane, and even Tornadus that are not invested heavily in physical bulk. Even naturally bulky Pokemon such as Dragonite and Walking Wake can be OHKOed or put in the range for minimal damage to KO them. Poison Jab is excellent coverage, hitting the problematic Fairy-types that Urshifu-S normally struggles with. After Terastallization, you can guarantee an OHKO on almost all Rillaboom, Terastallized Flutter mane, and even bulkier pokemon like Tera Fairy Indeedee-F. U-turn is also a viable move as a pivot option. The Attack investment and Adamant nature are necessary to get the KOs mentioned earlier, such as the OHKO on Landorus and Tornadus. The Defense investment allows Urshifu-S to survive the combination of Tera Normal Choice Band Dragonite's Extreme Speed and Sucker Punch from Adamant Chien-Pao. The Special Defense EVs allow Urshifu-S to take a variety of strong attacks such as Earth Power from Landorus and Bleakwind Storm from Tornadus. The remaining EVs are placed in Speed. Tera Poison is chosen to resist the Fighting- and Fairy-type moves that would otherwise hit Urshifu-S super effectively. Urshifu-S is naturally immune to Psychic and has Dark-type moves to cover for the weakness, and it also naturally threatens Psychic-types like Farigiraf. Tera Dark is also an option, as the extra damage combined with Choice Band is absurd and, combined with good Tailwind support and redirection, is a good choice. However, it requires more careful positioning around threats, as Urshifu-S won't be able to Terastallize out of it's Fairy- and Fighting-type weaknesses.

Urshifu-S is used as a generally strong attacker, its Wicked Blow deals massive damage to much of the metagame and ignores Attack drops and Protect, minimizing counterplay. It is a versatile pick on many compositions, as its kit does not need much support and is mainly used to enhance a team's offensive pressure with strong attacks. With Tera Dark, Urshifu-S is capable of OHKOing Pokemon such as both Calyrex formes and Flutter Mane as well as bringing most other targets down to low HP, such as Miraidon and Tornadus. Focus Sash helps Urshifu-S remedy its poor defensive typing, while Sucker Punch is able to somewhat bypass Urshifu-S's middling Speed tier. Urshifu-S functions well on many teams, but those with strong speed control are where Urshifu-S shines, particularly Trick Room compositions with Calyrex-I, which appreciate the immediate pressure. Trick Room lets Urshifu-S outspeed threats such as Flutter Mane and Zamazenta-C. Additionally, Unseen Fist ignoring Protect means that it is more risky for foes to attempt to stall out Trick Room turns. Urshifu-S struggles against Pokemon that resist Dark, such as opposing Incineroar and Urshifu, as they nullify Urshifu-S's main benefit in dealing big damage with Wicked Blow. While Close Combat is strong, it's less consistent because it doesnt bypass Intimidate and drops Urshifu-S's defenses. Additionally, many of these threats also outspeed and Urshifu-S for super effective damage, such as the Zamazenta-C and Urshifu-R. However, Pokemon like Amoonguss and Incineroar are able to somewhat make up for these weaknesses. Amoonguss provides redirection, resists Fairy and Fighting, and threatens foes with Spore, while Incineroar offers general utility and Fake Out, which foes can't block with Protect at risk of a attack from Urshifu-S. Tera Fairy is also a popular Tera type, used by foes like Raging Bolt and Calyrex-S, which are problematic for Urshifu-S as it cannot break through Tera Fairy users because they resist its STAB combination

Set Details Choice Band Urshifu-S uses Wicked Blow to reliably OHKO foes like Calyrex-I, Lunala, Volcarona, and Farigiraf while maintaining its naturally good matchups against Calyrex-S and Indeedee-F. With Close Combat, Urshifu-S is able to threaten KOs on Incineroar, Ursaluna, and even Defense Protosynthesis-boosted Brute Bonnet. U-turn allows Urshifu-S to pivot out in situations that may not be favorable for it while doing significant damage to Brute Bonnet and Indeedee-F. Additionally, U-turn can be used to play around defensive Terastallization from Pokemon like Calyrex-I, Lunala, and Farigiraf. While Choice Band does have the obvious downside of locking Urshifu-S into a move, its newfound ability to OHKO Calyrex-I and Lunala with Wicked Blow, alongside its generally higher damage output, allows it to be much more threatening. Urshifu-S should use either a Brave Nature with 252 HP and Attack EVs or an Adamant Nature with 252 Attack and Speed EVs depending on if it is being used on a team that focuses on Trick Room or not. Trick Room teams should run 0 IVs in Speed, while teams not utilizing Trick Room should use 31 IVs in Speed. Tera Grass is the most common Tera type, as it allows Urshifu-S to avoid Rage Powder and Spore from opposing Pokemon like Volcarona and Amoonguss, respectively. Teambuilding Choice Band Urshifu-S is weak to Fighting-types like Urshifu-R, Iron Hands, and Zamazenta-C, as they can all survive Urshifu's Close Combat and OHKO it back. However, Urshifu-S can OHKO Zamazenta-C with Close Combat if its Dauntless Shield boost is no longer active. Choice Band Urshifu-S is also susceptible to opposing Pokemon's use of Terastallization, as Pokemon like Calyrex-I and Lunala can use a defensive Tera type to survive a hit from Urshifu-S. Lunala is especially scary for Urshifu-S in these scenarios, as it can sometimes run Tera Fairy and Moonblast to survive a hit and OHKO Urshifu-S in return. Choice Band Urshifu-S is strongest on Trick Room teams that feature Restricted Pokemon like Lunala and Calyrex-I, as those teams can use it to threaten OHKOs on Pokemon like Calyrex-I, Calyrex-S, and Lunala. Lunala and Calyrex-I can assist Urshifu-S in return by setting up Trick Room and allowing it to move before Pokemon like Chi-Yu and Zamazenta-C. Another good teammate for Urshifu-S is Indeedee-F, as it appreciates Urshifu-S's ability to threaten Ursaluna before Trick Room goes up. Indeedee-F supports Urshifu-S well by providing Trick Room and redirection, which both allow Urshifu-S to more effectively take KOs.

Set Details Urshifu-S utilizes its STAB attacks to threaten Restricted Pokemon like Calyrex-S, Calyrex-I, and Terapagos alongside other metagame staples like Chien-Pao, Ursaluna, and Chi-Yu. Focus Sash allows Urshifu-S to take two attacks before it is KOed to maximize its on-field presence. This spread is designed to let Urshifu-S survive at least two Astral Barrages from Life Orb-boosted Calyrex-S and outrun maximum Speed Incineroar, with the remainder of the EVs invested into Attack and Defense. Tera Stellar guarantees Urshifu-S's Wicked Blow OHKOes Lunala through Shadow Shield. Teambuilding Urshifu-S struggles to sufficiently damage Tera Fairy foes such as Miraidon, Lunala, and Raging Bolt, as well as being threatened by Fairy-type attacks like Dazzling Gleam from Miraidon, Moonblast from Lunala and Flutter Mane, and Play Rough from Zacian-C. Fighting-type attacks are problematic for Urshifu-S. Koraidon and Zamazenta-C outspeed and easily KO Urshifu-S with Collision Course and Body Press after its Focus Sash has been broken. Choice Band Urshifu-S is a potent offensive wallbreaker with an excellent STAB combination against the metagame. With a Speed donation, Urshifu-S is able to threaten out a lot of frail Pokemon that it wouldn't otherwise. Urshifu-S can choose to inherit in the Attack slot, becoming far stronger, but it prefers the Speed slot because it is relatively slow, it already has high Attack, and Attack-inheriting sets are more awkward to fit onto teams. In terms of moves, Wicked Blow and Close Combat are mandatory. U-turn allows Urshifu-S to generate momentum off the many switches it can force. Poison Jab is great at threatening Fairy-types such as physically defensive Clefable and Primarina, while Sucker Punch is a viable alternative to provide speed control in a pinch, and it is preferred when inheriting from gods slower than Eternatus. Tera Dark is preferred to further boost damage on Wicked Blow and Sucker Punch, allowing Urshifu-S to OHKO fully invested Arceus-Ghost. Tera Poison boosts Poison Jab to achieve a 2HKO on Arceus-Fairy and Clefable with base 115 Defense and it is a good defensive Tera for Urshifu-S. Finally, Tera Fighting boosts the damage of Close Combat. Zacian-C and Eternatus are excellent gods for Urshifu-S to inherit from. Zacian-C appreciates having a strong offensive wallbreaking partner to overwhelm shared checks such as Clodsire and Skarmory, while Eternatus provides Urshifu-S with a partner that can inherit great Special Attack such as Hisuian Electrode or Landorus, taking advantage of the physically defensive walls Urshifu-S invites in and being a solid progress maker itself. Finally, Arceus is rarely a bad choice of a god, and Urshifu-S fits comfortably onto Arceus structures as a fast wallbreaker. Urshifu-S is quite frail, so it appreciates having solid defensive pieces, like Clodsire and Skarmory, to swap into powerful attacks it cannot take itself—especially Fairy-type attacks. Pokemon like Landorus-T, Pecharunt, and Rotom-W can bring Urshifu-S in safely by forming a VoltTurn core with it so it doesn't have to worry about using its middling bulk to hit the field. These three in particular can take on Zacian-C and Zamazenta, two Pokemon Urshifu-S cannot usually beat. Urshifu-S also likes to be paired with physical attackers that can clean easily, like Sneasler, that benefit greatly from the holes it punches in the opposing team. Finally, entry hazard support from the likes of Hisuian Samurott, Great Tusk, Glimmora, and so forth isn't necessarily mandatory but helps Urshifu-S secure key rolls against walls, such as HP-inheriting Skarmory and physically defensive Primarina.

Urshifu-S can punch holes in the opposing team with its strong combination of STAB moves. Additionally, Urshifu-S can benefit from team preview against opponents who mistakenly assume it to be Urshifu-R. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: Generally, Urshifu-S will utilize Terastallization offensively in order to extend the reach of its signature move Wicked Blow. Dark: Tera Dark allows Urshifu-S to supercharge its Wicked Blow and muscle its way past various physically defensive foes. Notably, it gives Choice Band Urshifu-S a high chance to 2HKO Dondozo through Leftovers recovery, giving Urshifu-S an advantage against many stall teams. Poison: This is a defensive Tera type that removes Fairy-type and Fighting-type weaknesses, and also absorbs Toxic Spikes. Steel: This Tera type allows Urshifu-S to resist Fairy-type attacks and additionally boosts the power of Iron Head.

After boosting its power through Swords Dance, Urshifu-S can leverage its complementary set of STAB moves to smash through the opposing team. Close Combat versus Drain Punch: Close Combat offers Urshifu-S the maximum sweeping power. However, if using Focus Sash or a defensive Tera type, Drain Punch is handy for restoring enough health after a boost to prevent priority attacks from easily knocking Urshifu-S out. Items Focus Sash: Focus Sash can help Urshifu-S more reliably get off a Swords Dance boost. It can survive hits from Fairy-types like Flutter Mane as well as powerful special attackers like Iron Bundle. With an Adamant nature, Urshifu-S can reliably beat offensive Tera Fairy Flutter Mane with Wicked Blow + Sucker Punch, provided Focus Sash is still intact. Black Glasses versus Punching Glove: Both items boost the power of Urshifu-S's signature move, Wicked Blow. Black Glasses gives a slightly stronger boost, while Punching Glove helps to protect Urshifu-S from contact effects like Rocky Helmet and Zapdos's Static. Urshifu-S is much less vulnerable to these effects compared to Urshifu-R due to lack of a multi-hit move. Finally, despite the name, Punching Glove does not boost the power of Sucker Punch, while Black Glasses does. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: Typically, Urshifu-S will utilize Terastallization offensively to bolster the power of its Dark-type moves, but this set can benefit more from a defensive Tera type in order to stay on the field longer and make use of its ability to switch moves, which the Choice-locked attacker set cannot. Dark: Tera Dark strengthens Wicked Blow and allows Urshifu-S to power its way through opposing walls. After a Swords Dance boost, Tera Dark-boosted Wicked Blow is a guaranteed OHKO on physically defensive Zapdos, while Close Combat has a high chance to OHKO Ting-Lu. Poison: This Tera type allows Urshifu-S to survive common Fairy-type and Fighting-type attacks that would otherwise threaten to KO Urshifu-S. Ghost: For Focus Sash sets, Tera Ghost blocks Normal-type priority from the likes of Dragonite, Ogerpon formes, or Entei from picking Urshifu-S off.
