Tapu Koko also enjoys having Pokemon like Corviknight, Landorus-T, and Tornadus-T as teammates, as they can help mitigate Tapu Koko's inability to break through Ground-types. Since it will often pivot in and out of the field, Pokemon that can offer entry hazard removal, like Landorus-T and Corviknight, make good teammates for Tapu Koko. These Pokemon also offer a solid defensive backbone to support Tapu Koko's frailty.

Tapu Koko can struggle to beat specially defensive Pokemon like Gastrodon, Assault Vest Tangrowth, and Ferrothorn, which offensive Pokemon like Kartana, Weavile, and Victini can help eliminate. Tapu Koko has mediocre bulk and enjoys having a sturdy defensive core to back it up. Its weakness to Ground- and Poison-type attacks make Landorus-T, Skarmory, and Corviknight excellent partners that can handle these attacks, in addition to providing entry hazard and pivot support. Dazzling Gleam gives Tapu Koko a good neutral option against Pokemon that resist Thunderbolt but aren't very threatened by Hidden Power, like opposing Tapu Koko, Hydreigon, and Kyurem. Alternatively, it can run Roost to improve its longevity in more drawn-out games against Pokemon that it forces out, such as Toxapex, Corviknight, and Slowbro. However, Roost forces Tapu Koko to switch out, thereby losing momentum. Grass Knot is another option that lends Tapu Koko the ability to pressure Gastrodon and Mega Swampert much harder, but it is inferior to Dazzling Gleam otherwise. Due to its role as a fast pivot that can generally keep up momentum well, Tapu Koko fits very well on more offensive teams, but it's a fine fit on balanced teams as well. Such teammates include the likes of Heatran, Ash-Greninja, Greninja, Mega Lopunny, Rillaboom, and Mega Scizor. Moreover, all of these partners bar Heatran are capable of creating pivoting cores with Tapu Koko courtesy of their access to U-turn, with Greninja and Ash-Greninja amplifying progress made through pivoting with Spikes as well. Water-, Grass-, and Ice-types such as Ash-Greninja, Kartana, Rillaboom, and Kyurem can easily pressure most of the metagame's Ground-types, including the ones that are particularly annoying for Tapu Koko such as Gastrodon, Mega Swampert, and Excadrill. On the other hand, Fire-types such as Mega Charizard Y and Heatran take advantage of Grass-types such as Ferrothorn, Tangrowth, and Amoonguss, which can otherwise keep Tapu Koko at bay for extended amounts of time. Due to Tapu Koko's tendency to force plenty of switches and rack up damage with Volt Switch, good entry hazard setters such as Landorus-T, Garchomp, and the aforementioned Heatran, Greninja, and Ash-Greninja make for good teammates that can greatly speed up the rate at which Tapu Koko can break teams down. Tapu Koko also likes having strong physical wallbreakers on its side to deal with the more specially defensive Pokemon that check it such as Blissey, Ferrothorn, Amoonguss, and Gastrodon. Pokemon like Mega Mawile, Mega Medicham, and Hawlucha make for great teammates to pressure these special walls, with the latter two also having great synergy with Electric Terrain. Lastly, as Tapu Koko is quite frail and prone to revenge killers such as Mega Lopunny, Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Rillaboom, and Ash-Greninja as a result, it appreciates a defensive backbone that can sponge up hits from these threats. On bulky offense teams, Pokemon such as bulky Landorus-T, Slowbro, Corviknight, and Blissey can provide said backbone while also maintaining momentum with their pivoting moves. On balanced teams, the likes of Toxapex, Clefable, and Corviknight can fulfill the same objective.

Dazzling Gleam can be run instead to hit Dragon-types like Kyurem, Kommo-o, and Hydreigon, but at the cost of a much worse matchup against Landorus-T and Gliscor. Heavy-Duty Boots allows for Tapu Koko to switch in without having to take damage from entry hazards, giving it more longevity and letting it to function as a better pivot. The given EV spread lets it always live an unboosted Gliscor Earthquake from full health. Tapu Koko tends to fit best on offense teams where it can be paired up with powerful wallbreakers such as Mega Medicham, Kartana, and Kyurem that appreciate it pivoting them in safely. The former also appreciates the Electric Terrain boost making its Thunder Punch stronger, while the latter are able to take advantage of the Ground-types that Tapu Koko lures in. Teammates such as Garchomp, Landorus-T, Greninja, and Kartana appreciate Tapu Koko's ability to pressure Water- and Flying-types, such as Skarmory, Toxapex, Corviknight, and Slowbro. Due to Tapu Koko's susceptibility to bulky Ground- and Grass-type Pokemon like Gliscor, Ferrothorn, Tangrowth, Hippowdon, and Gastrodon, it needs teammates that can handle these such as Kyurem, Heatran, and Rillaboom.

Volt Switch allows Tapu Koko to pivot out of unfavorable matchups like Heatran while hitting Corviknight and Toxapex super effectively; Thunderbolt allows it to actually beat the aforementioned Corviknight and Toxapex, as they can otherwise use a recovery move as Tapu Koko uses Volt Switch. Roost is mandatory to offset burn and entry hazard damage. Taunt prevents its switch-ins like Volt Absorb Corviknight from healing and pairs very well with Volt Switch to weaken foes. Work Up is usable to boost both of Tapu Koko's attacking stats, allowing it to function as a cleaner, though Facade is already strong enough to pick off weakened foes, and boosted Thunderbolt is still weak. A Jolly nature is preferred to preserve bulk; Hasty nature is also an option on Work Up variants, notably being able to 2HKO Toxapex. Tapu Koko fits on most balance and offense teams thanks to its top-notch Speed tier and its ability to keep opposing walls at low health. Zygarde-10% is a prime partner to form a core with Tapu Koko where they both can either wallbreak or clean up; Tapu Koko can Taunt shared checks like Dauntless Shield Mew and keep them at low health, while using Volt Switch against checks like Heatran and Jirachi to bring in Zygarde-10%. Tapu Koko is frail, especially considering burn damage, so it appreciates a defensive pivot to safely bring it in. Vaporeon is remarkably a good partner as it can use Wish + Flip Turn to reliably heal Tapu Koko. A Flying-type like Landorus-T or Zapdos is also essential to alleviate Tapu Koko's glaring weakness to Ground-types; they are also helpful in checking Heatran, which is the single largest roadblock to Tapu Koko given its 4x Fairy resistance.

Tapu Koko fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that can offer support as it tries to set up a sweep in the late-game. Teammates like Zarude and Heatran offer pivoting momentum and entry hazard support, while they appreciate Tapu Koko's ability to offensively check threats like Talonflame and Galarian Zapdos. Talonflame and Galarian Zapdos also benefit from being paired with Tapu Koko, as they capitalize on Ferrothorn and RegenVest Jirachi trying to switch into Tapu Koko. Tapu Koko struggles to break RegenVest Swampert and Landorus-T, so it does well with partners that can repeatedly switch into them like Regenerator Ferrothorn and Wandering Spirit Corviknight. Water-types like Suicune, Toxapex, and Tapu Fini prevent Barraskewda from revenge killing Tapu Koko, and Suicune, in particular, is also able to form a Calm Mind core with Tapu Koko that continuously pressures opposing teams.

Maximum HP and Speed investment allow Tapu Koko to be as bulky as possible while outspeeding every Pokemon up to Talonflame to set up screens before the opponent attacks. 248 Speed EVs is also an option to move after opposing Tapu Koko, allowing it to bring in teammates safely. In return, Tapu Koko threatens their checks like Tapu Fini and Corviknight. Heatran also deserves special mention, as it is one of the best Stealth Rock setters in the tier and is able to chip down special walls like Landorus-T and Blissey. Furthermore, it lures in and poisons Zapdos, which lets Tapu Koko beat non-Weather Ball variants more reliably. Tapu Koko struggles with Ground-types in general, especially Choice Scarf Landorus-T, so it is necessary to pair it with Flying-types like your own Landorus-T and Corviknight. Wandering Spirit variants are especially helpful, as they can remove Regenerator from Swampert's and Landorus-T, eventually chipping them into KO range of Dazzling Gleam. Both Landorus-T and Corviknight also form potent VoltTurn cores with Tapu Koko and can switch into faster threats like Choice Scarf Azelf and Zarude.

Tapu Koko is the fastest Fairy-type available and is a great offensive pivot. Thunderbolt is Tapu Koko's most consistent special STAB attack and has a high damage output thanks to boosts from Electric Terrain and Magnet. Hidden Power Ice lets Tapu Koko hit Ground-types that would otherwise be problematic for Fairy teams, such as Landorus and Gliscor. U-turn gives Tapu Koko a way to pivot other teammates in reliably and generate momentum. Taunt is great utility to help Tapu Koko shut down walls such as Zapdos and Blissey, making it easier to bring in a teammate that handles them effectively. Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment allows Tapu Koko to hit as hard and pivot as fast as possible, and 4 Defense EVs let it survive an Earthquake from defensive Gliscor at full health. Tapu Koko's role as a pivot is appreciated by all of its teammates. Klefki provides a much-needed Poison-type immunity and can be brought in safely to reliably set dual screens and entry hazards that can wear down foes for Tapu Koko to clean up late-game. Tapu Lele makes for a great teammate because it's a powerful wallbreaker that can power through specially defensive walls Tapu Koko struggles with, such as Swampert, with its STAB attacks. Tapu Bulu takes on most Ground-types that Tapu Koko struggles with, such as Hippowdon, Gastrodon, and Swampert. Azumarill provides valuable priority in Aqua Jet and is also a very strong setup sweeper with Belly Drum while being able to take on all of the Ground-types that Tapu Koko struggles with. Mega Diancie is another good teammate because it can keep entry hazards off of your side that would otherwise wear Tapu Koko down, and it synergizes well with Tapu Koko in the Flying and Fire matchups. Mimikyu is able to break through the Psychic and Ghost teams, and Togekiss helps break through bulky threatening Grass-types such as Mega Venusaur.

An amazing ability in Electric Surge that sets up Electric Terrain, bolstering Electric-type attacks of both itself and its teammates, along with an above average Speed tier and a great secondary typing in Fairy makes Tapu Koko a primary threat on Electric-type teams. Thunderbolt is amplified thanks to Electric Terrain. Dazzling Gleam helps deal with troublesome Dragon-, Fighting-, and Dark-type Pokemon such as unboosted Mega Altaria, Mega Gallade, and Zarude. Hidden Power Ice deals with troublesome Ground-types like Landorus and Gliscor, which freely switch in against Electric-type attacks. Volt Switch allows Tapu Koko to act as a great offensive pivot to maintain offensive pressure while to bring teammates safely into the field. Grass Knot can be used to better deal with Ground-types like Hippowdon and Swampert, which otherwise freely switch in against Tapu Koko. 4 Defense EVs ensure Tapu Koko always survives an Earthquake from Gliscor at full HP. Maximum Special Attack investment along with Choice Specs makes Tapu Koko a reliable wallbreaker, while maximum Speed along with a Timid nature ensures it outspeeds Pokemon like Weavile and Cinderace. Zapdos is a great teammate for Tapu Koko, as it provides a much needed Ground immunity and Defog support while also dealing with physical threats like Mega Scizor, Rillaboom, and Tapu Bulu. Defog helps Tapu Koko pivot freely, but Choice Specs Zapdos can also be a great teammate, as it comfortably deals with bulky Grass-types like Mega Venusaur and Cradily. Rotom-W provides a secondary Ground immunity with Levitate, can deal with Ground-types like Hippowdon and Mamoswine thanks to Hydro Pump, provides a switch-in against Fire- and Water-types like Choice Scarf Blacephalon and Mega Swampert, and cripples physical attackers like Mega Swampert thanks to Will-O-Wisp. Alolan Raichu easily benefits the most from Electric Terrain set up by Tapu Koko while also using it to revenge kill faster threats like Sand Rush Excadrill, Choice Scarf Greninja, and Mega Aerodactyl, which Tapu Koko fails to deal with. Alolan Raichu's Psychic can beat troublesome Poison-types like Mega Venusaur, while Focus Blast can get rid of troublesome walls like Ferrothorn, for Tapu Koko and Grass Knot can cover for Tapu Koko not running a move. Tapu Koko in return deals with troublesome Dark- and Dragon-types like Krookodile and Mega Latias. Zeraora is the best available physical attacker for Electric-type teams and can help greatly in the Normal-, Ghost-, and Dragon-type matchups thanks to Close Combat, Knock Off, and Play Rough, respectively, while also dealing with walls in Blissey and Ferrothorn that Tapu Koko falls short against. Choice Specs Regieleki pairs well as a monstrous wallbreaker with Rising Voltage when paired with Tapu Koko's Electric Terrain, being able to 2HKO major threats to Tapu Koko such as Mega Venusaur and Blissey and providing a secondary hazard control thanks to Rapid Spin. Magnezone is able to trap and deal with Steel-types that Tapu Koko fails to do anything significant against, such as Excadrill and Ferrothorn, and act as a reliable switch-in to Poison-type attacks directed at Tapu Koko. Similar to Magnezone, Alolan Golem is capable of trapping and dealing with the aforementioned troublesome Steel-types while also being able to provide Stealth Rock support.

This set competes heavily with Regieleki's superior speed and Explosion in terms of setting up screens, but Tapu Koko's Electric Surge gives it a viable niche, since it stops grounded Pokemon from falling asleep. Thunderbolt provides reliable power, but Volt Switch can make Tapu Koko a viable pivot. Taunt cripples passive Pokemon, a rare feature for Dual Screeners. Alternately, Nature's Madness provides reliable damage early game. The given EVs allow Tapu Koko to avoid a 2HKO from Hippowdon and Swampert's Earthquake after Reflect is set up. A more offensive spread is possible, but it does make Tapu Koko a less safe lead against these two. Items Light Clay is the obvious choice for setting up screens that last a longer time. Shuca Berry can let Tapu Koko more safely Taunt against Hippowdon and Swampert, letting it set up both Reflect and Light Screen even if they use Earthquake as Tapu Koko Taunts.

Tapu Koko has a lot of competition from other Electric-types, but its Speed and Electric Surge give it a place in the metagame. Grass Knot is Tapu Koko's best shot at dealing damage to Hippowdon and Swampert, who otherwise wall it. Volt Switch is Tapu Koko's hardest hitting pivoting attack, but U-turn can be considered for letting Tapu Koko scout Ground-type switch-ins. When not using Choice Specs, Taunt is also a good option for stopping foes such as Cresselia and Raikou from setting up. Items Choice Specs gives Tapu Koko as much power as possible, and pairs especially well with Volt Switch to make Tapu Koko a good pivot. Life Orb should still be considered for making Tapu Koko a better Dynamax user.

Tapu Koko may have a shallow physical movepool, but it has a decently high Attack stat, and access to Brave Bird can make it a surprising Max Airstream user while Dynamaxed. U-turn allows Tapu Koko to scout for Ground-type switch-ins, which is especially important since Landorus-T and Hippowdon do very well against this set. Iron Head gives Tapu Koko Max Steelspike while Dynamaxed, useful for boosting its Defense stat. However, with a Naive nature, Grass Knot can be used to deal plenty of damage to Hippowdon and Swampert.

Moves Tapu Koko's ability to anti-lead Smeargle, outspeed and Taunt many Pokemon, and potentially generate momentum using U-turn makes it an acceptable user of dual screens. Reflect is the optimal screen to be set against leads with physical attackers to ease Tapu Koko's teammates' matchup against them and reducing the damage of many priority moves. Light Screen is a better screen to set against special attackers to hinder their ability to inflict damage. It can be helpful against support Arceus formes, Xerneas, and more. Taunt is used to shut down slower Pokemon like Smeargle and Ferrothorn, preventing them from setting their own entry hazards. Shutting down defensive threats can also provide Tapu Koko's team with a better opportunity to set up, as Taunted foes will struggle to damage setup sweepers behind screens support. U-turn is used to bring in a teammate after Tapu Koko has successfully set up screens, potentially catching a foe switching out in the process and thus helping to create a favorable matchup. The chip damage can also be handy with breaking Focus Sash from opposing leads like Smeargle that have been crippled by Taunt. Set Details Maximum Speed investment with a Jolly nature enables Tapu Koko to take full advantage of its high Speed, letting it outspeed Arceus formes, reliably set Reflect in front of Marshadow, and prevent slower foes like Mega Salamence from setting up on it. Maximum HP investment gives Tapu Koko a small but needed bulk boost, giving it a good chance to survive Precipice Blades from offensive Primal Groudon and enabling it to always survive said move from defensive variants behind Reflect. Other crucial benchmarks for maximum HP include guaranteed survival of Xerneas's Moonblast and the 2HKO from support Arceus formes' neutral Judgment in a one-on-one scenario. Light Clay makes Reflect and Light Screen last for eight turns instead of five, aiding setup sweepers like Zygarde that may take a bit longer to set up. Electric Surge summons Electric Terrain, which can benefit teammates like Xerneas using Electric-type coverage moves and prevents sleep. Usage Tips This set serves one purpose: setting screens to ease teammates' attempts to set up and sweep effectively. Set appropriate screens and safely bring in an appropriate teammate with U-turn. Depending on what foe an opponent leads with, it may be difficult to decide which screen will be appropriate to set. For example, Arceus-Ground and Primal Kyogre can potentially be running a physical or special set, and many Primal Groudon variants are mixed, so a wrong prediction will usually limit Tapu Koko to setting only one screen. Analyze what attacks can Tapu Koko's teammates can take better and set screens to weaken attacks that teammates can't take well. This means setting Reflect against Primal Groudon lacking Hidden Power Ice can be better for teammates like Zygarde and Rayquaza that can easily take Overheat, and setting Light Screen against support Arceus formes can be helpful for Xerneas and Extreme Killer Arceus attempting to set up on them. Note that while using Taunt can prevent Defog users from removing screens and setup sweepers from getting out of hand, this often involves a risk. Tapu Koko has enough bulk to survive an attack and prevent the likes of Geomancy Xerneas and bulkier Zygarde from setting up on it, but it is usually safer to set screens on threats like Primal Groudon and Arceus-Ground instead despite their ability to carry setup moves. While this set's lack of offensive presence may make it seem helpless against defensive teams, it can prove to be useful by crippling defensive foes with Taunt, hindering certain Pokemon by preventing Rest with Electric Terrain, and drawing in Mega Sableye and making a favorable matchup with U-turn. Defensive teams also tend to rely on support Arceus formes to shut down dangerous threats like such as Zygarde, Arceus-Ground, and Primal Groudon, so screens can come in handy by making them much harder to stop. Screens support is especially beneficial for the former two due to their ability to fully take advantage of screens behind Substitute. Team Options The damage reduction from dual screens is very helpful to most offensive archetypes, as it potentially allows many Pokemon to set up on threats without taking too much damage. Setup sweepers that are naturally bulky, such as Primal Groudon and Xerneas, will be significantly harder to take down when they are behind screens. Primal Groudon can potentially benefit from defensive Zygarde and Giratina's reduced longevity due to Electric Terrain preventing Rest, while Xerneas can use Electric Terrain-boosted Thunder after Geomancy boosts to bypass Ho-Oh and offensive Necrozma-DM. Substitute users like Zygarde and Arceus-Ground become even more problematic to offensive teams, as they can reliably set up on various foes while avoiding status. Arceus-Dark and Arceus-Flying packing Refresh are also worthy of consideration in certain matchups where the opposing team doesn't have much security against bulky setup sweepers. Various wallbreakers can find room to breathe with dual screen support. This means powerhouses like Primal Kyogre and Yveltal will be harder to handle and will have a superior matchup against their usual checks. Primal Kyogre is especially helpful with punishing Ground-types that Tapu Koko draws in. Entry hazards facilitate any setup sweepers' attempt to sweep. Offensive setters like Primal Groudon and Dialga can have their matchup against support Arceus formes significantly improved with dual screen support. Pokemon that can provide some security against setup sweepers are needed, as foes like Rock Polish Primal Groudon and offensive Zygarde and Arceus-Ground variants may get out of hand while Tapu Koko attempts to set the screen. Priority move users like Marshadow and Extreme Killer Arceus can be considered to alleviate this issue.

Moves Thunder threatens a good number of threats with Electric Terrain active, and it is chosen over Thunderbolt to strengthen Tapu Koko's Z-Move as much as possible. Taunt prevents passive foes like Ferrothorn, Blissey, and Toxapex from using their utility options and can be used to hinder support Arceus formes and prevent setup in a pinch. U-turn makes Tapu Koko an effective pivot against any foe and helps it generate momentum on forced switches. As a lot of Pokemon can easily pivot into Tapu Koko's Electric-type attacks and they require different countermeasures for Tapu Koko to punish, Nature's Madness becomes a useful tool to punish just about every switch-in to Tapu Koko's checks in one move. Checks that lack reliable recovery, such as Primal Groudon and Giratina-O, are especially punished harsher if switched into said move. Roost can be considered to let Tapu Koko be a more reliable switch-in to Yveltal and worry less about passive foes' retaliation after Taunt, but it is hard to fit into this set. Set Details Maximized Speed EVs and a Timid nature make Tapu Koko as fast as possible, letting it outspeed support Arceus formes and Mega Salamence while Speed tying with Mega Gengar. 8 Defense EVs let Tapu Koko survive +1 Double-Edge from Adamant Mega Salamence from full HP. The rest of the EVs are invested into Special Attack to maximize Tapu Koko's damage output. Electric Surge strengthens Tapu Koko's Electric-type STAB attacks and hinders Pokemon like Giratina that rely on Rest. Usage Tips This variant of Tapu Koko primarily focuses on offensively checking threats it can hit hard with Electric-type attacks and generating momentum on forced switches. However, due to a large number of Pokemon that can easily take Electric-type attacks, this task will demand a series of accurate predictions to be successful. Tapu Koko will rely on the inaccurate Thunder after using Gigavolt Havoc. This means prioritize observing how an opponent reacts to Tapu Koko, and Tapu Koko should rather focus on securing momentum, as most of its checks like Primal Groudon and Zygarde can become very threatening with a single misprediction. In some cases, instead of relying on making correct predictions, it is better to weaken foes that check Tapu Koko, particularly Ground-types, to ease Tapu Koko's pivoting. Consider using U-turn to create favorable matchups and Nature's Madness to weaken checks on the switch. As Tapu Koko draws in many threatening setup sweepers, use Taunt to prevent them from gaining enough boosts to make a sweep. This is a worthwhile move, especially if Tapu Koko made a misprediction and gave a free switch. Lack of much defensive presence means Tapu Koko will naturally make its team weaker to Ground-types by its typing and the conventional teammates it has to be used with. Use sources like entry hazards and aggressive predictions to prevent Ground-types from switching into Tapu Koko too liberally. Defensive teams will have multiple Pokemon that Tapu Koko can easily prey on. Taunt can shut down various walls, Electric Terrain can hinder Rest users like Giratina, and Electric-type attacks can threaten Ho-Oh, Lugia, Skarmory, and Arceus-Water. While the consequences for misprediction aren't as dire as against offensive teams, it is crucially important to take more thoughtful actions to allow Tapu Koko to fulfill its role. Team Options Tapu Koko's tendency to draw in Ground-types and other foes that resist Electric can somewhat help it support its team, as it can pivot out with U-turn on predicted switches and create favorable matchups. Offensive partners like Zygarde, Arceus-Ground, and Mega Salamence can take advantage of Primal Groudon that Tapu Koko lures in or even additionally weakens with Nature's Madness, while Primal Kyogre can additionally punish opposing Arceus-Ground. Most of the checks for the aforementioned teammates can be weakened by Nature's Madness. Entry hazards can help Tapu Koko punish forced switches and wear down a good portion of its checks. As Tapu Koko typically finds its place on offensive teams, Cloyster and Deoxys-S can provide entry hazard support. Primal Groudon, depending on the variant, can provide Stealth Rock support, overpower Tapu Koko's checks with Swords Dance, or destroy offensive teams with Rock Polish. From bulkier teams' perspective, counterplay against Primal Groudon generally becomes narrower, as Giratina and Zygarde-C cannot heal themselves with Rest due to Electric Terrain. Tapu Koko can threaten Arceus-Water, Primal Kyogre, and Ho-Oh and put a huge dent in Giratina-O with Nature's Madness. As Tapu Koko struggles to do much against faster foes, and it can weaken bulky foes like support Arceus formes and Giratina-O, offensive partners like Marshadow and Extreme Killer Arceus can improve the matchup against offensive teams. More specialized teammates like Zekrom and Arceus-Electric can benefit from Electric Terrain, as it makes their STAB Electric-type attacks immensely powerful. Note that both of them stack weaknesses with Tapu Koko and thus make the team more loose against Ground-types overall.

Moves Thunderbolt is Tapu Koko's primary STAB attack, as it is the most powerful and reliable move Tapu Koko has access to. Dazzling Gleam offers yet another STAB option, 2HKOing otherwise troublesome Pokemon such as Garchomp and Krookodile. It also functions as a moderately powerful spread attack. Volt Switch takes advantage of Tapu Koko's great Speed to quickly withdraw itself from trouble, dealing solid damage in the process. It can be used to reposition Tapu Koko's ally to avoid attacks targeted at that slot and re-activate its on-entry ability if it has one. Discharge allows Tapu Koko to bypass Lightning Rod, but be wary, as it also damages allies. Protect shields Tapu Koko from double targeting and increases its longevity. Set Details Maximum Speed EVs with a Timid nature allow Tapu Koko to Speed tie with opposing Tapu Koko, as well as outrunning Salazzle, Alolan Persian, Weavile, and Alakazam. Maximum Special Attack EVs maximize the damage it can deal. Modest is a viable nature alternative, as the aforementioned Pokemon are uncommon, and there are ways to play against opposing Tapu Koko even if yours underspeeds it. The increase in power is not insignificant—Tapu Koko can 2HKO Assault Vest Kartana much more frequently with Modest. Life Orb is the preferred item, as it provides a consistent increase in damage. Some of Tapu Koko's most common partners, Gyarados and Garchomp, often hold a Z-Crystal, as it tends to benefit them more. However, Tapu Koko is not a bad user of Z-Moves. Electrium Z turns Thunderbolt into a powerful Gigavolt Havoc that OHKOes even a +1 Tapu Fini in Electric Terrain, or an unboosted Tapu Fini in Misty Terrain. Additionally, Gigavolt Havoc easily OHKOes Maximum HP Arcanine, dealing 110% minimum. Fairium Z gives Tapu Koko a strong single target Fairy-type attack, allowing it to OHKO Assault Vest Garchomp and deal 95% minimum to opposing Tapu Koko. Since most Tapu Koko are Life Orb, Fairium Z Tapu Koko often comes out on top, as the opposing one will knock itself out thanks to Life Orb recoil. Usage Tips Tapu Koko is a solid presence at all game stages. If it has Volt Switch, it exerts more pressure as a lead, as it can pivot out of any unfavorable matchups. If it has Discharge, it is a better late-game cleaner. When selecting the four Pokemon in Team Preview, it may be preferable to keep Tapu Koko in the back if it lacks Volt Switch. Do not be reckless when it comes to firing off Thunderbolts; a target may Protect itself and its partner may retaliate. If Tapu Koko has Volt Switch, it is preferable to use it often early-game, wearing down would-be checks such as Alolan Muk and certain Arcanine. The beauty of Volt Switch is that its targeting option is more flexible than Thunderbolt thanks to its switch-out effect. Volt Switch can be used to reposition Tapu Koko's ally—switch that Pokemon out, then have Tapu Koko use Volt Switch to bring it into Tapu Koko's slot on the same turn. By doing this, you can quickly re-activate on-entry abilities such as Intimidate or Drizzle without having to take two turns to do so. This also helps clear any negative stat changes. Tapu Koko is difficult to switch in due to its poor bulk. Predicting when your opponent will play a turn passively switch to gain an immediate advantage off your current board position helps bring Tapu Koko back onto the field. Conditioning your opponent to not target a specific Pokemon slot is also another way to send Tapu Koko back out. Team Options Tapu Koko is a great partner to many Pokemon due to being a standout threat, but it prefers fast, offensive Pokemon next to it to threaten quick KOs. Examples of these Pokemon include Kartana, Nihilego, Garchomp, and Alolan Raichu. When facing a team with a Pokemon with Lightning Rod such as Alolan Marowak, Tapu Koko should often be positioned with a Pokemon such as Garchomp or Krookodile that can commonly defeat it. Keep in mind, however, that Tapu Koko is not an airborne Pokemon and can be struck by their Earthquake. Bulky Pokemon such as Porygon2, Tapu Fini, and Arcanine are good Pokemon to serve as buffers to hits as Tapu Koko pivots out. Additionally, all of these Pokemon possess on-entry abilities, which Tapu Koko can help reset using Volt Switch. Intimidate is helpful for Tapu Koko, as it prevents Tapu Koko from getting OHKOed by Choice Scarf Garchomp's Earthquake. Gyarados, Krookodile, and Arcanine are solid options. Simply think about what kind of Pokemon Tapu Koko can remove and pair it with Pokemon that would normally struggle against them.

Choice Specs maximizes Tapu Koko’s consecutive damage output, allowing Tapu Koko to deal a great deal of damage even when pivoting out with Volt Switch. Dazzling Gleam is often preferred in the third moveslot for providing a STAB spread move, despite being weak. Hidden Power Ice is an alternative for foes such as Landorus-T, although using it disallows the use of Hidden Power Fire to hit the likes of Ferrothorn. Grass Knot has a chance to OHKO troublesome foes such as Tyranitar and Swampert. As this set lacks Protect, Intimidate users such as Landorus-T and Salamence can be valuable to help Tapu Koko remain on the field for longer.

Electric Terrain boosting Electric attacks and low defensive stats incentivize Tapu Koko to go for an all-out offensive set, and Electrium Z and Life Orb provide the greatest increase to damage output while letting Tapu Koko retain the ability to switch moves. Volt Switch is useful to switch out of dangerous situations, though Taunt stops speed control such as Tailwind and Trick Room. Dazzling Gleam is quite weak, but is useful in being both a spread and secondary STAB move. Hidden Power Ice primarily takes care of Landorus-T. Pelipper makes for a good teammate, as it can check Grass- and Ground-type foes which care little for Electric attacks.

Moves Thunderbolt is Tapu Koko's most spammable attack, as it hits very hard, OHKOing threats to Fairy like Celesteela and potentially 2HKOing Zapdos under Electric Terrain. Hidden Power Ice rounds out Thunderbolt's coverage and allows Tapu Koko to hit Ground-type Pokemon such as Gliscor, Garchomp, and Landorus. U-turn allows Tapu Koko to pivot out of Pokemon it cannot handle such as Hippowdon in order to bring in more ideal teammates such as Tapu Bulu. Taunt prevents walls from recovering off damage or spreading status, prevents entry hazard setters from setting up their hazards, and prevents Pokemon such as Mega Scizor from setting up. Set Details Maximum EVs in Special Attack and Speed alongside a Timid nature allow Tapu Koko to hit as hard and fast as possible, outspeeding threats such as Alakazam and non-Choice Scarf Greninja. 4 Defense EVs allows Tapu Koko to always take uninvested Gliscor's Earthquake from full health. Electric Surge sets Electric Terrain, boosting the power of its Electric-type moves. Magnet slightly increases the power of Tapu Koko's Electric-type attacks, allowing Thunderbolt to pick up some 2HKOs in Electric Terrain such as Zapdos. Usage Tips Due to Tapu Koko's great natural Speed, it should be used as a lead, as it can use Taunt to prevent other leads like Cobalion from setting entry hazards, safely pivot out with U-turn, or fire off a powerful attack. Thanks to its function as an anti-lead, it is also a fantastic revenge killer that can clean late-game against teams such as Water once its checks such as Swampert have been removed from battle. At the same time, Tapu Koko should use Taunt to make sure that walls such as Chansey can't recover off damage and setup sweepers such as Mega Gallade can’t set up. Tapu Koko applies an insane amount of pressure against Water and Flying teams and as such should be preserved in those matchups. It should spam Thunderbolt once all Ground-type Pokemon have been removed, namely Gliscor, Landorus-T, Swampert, and Gastrodon. In the Water matchup, Tapu Koko should always pivot out of battle with U-turn while Swampert or Gastrodon is still around to bring in Tapu Bulu to better deal with it. Team Options Mega Diancie and Tapu Koko form a very deadly Flying breaker core, as Tapu Koko can take on threats to Diancie such as Celesteela, while Mega Diancie can spam Diamond Storm and Moonblast against threats such as Zapdos and Dragonite. Mega Diancie can also provide Stealth Rock support, which gives Tapu Koko an easier time to break Pokemon such as Porygon2 late-game. Tapu Bulu takes care of troublesome Ground-type Pokemon for Tapu Koko such as Hippowdon and Swampert, while Tapu Koko can get rid of annoying Flying-types for Tapu Bulu such as Mandibuzz and Celesteela. Swords Dance Tapu Bulu also can break past Poison-type Pokemon for Tapu Koko such as Mega Venusaur with a boosted Zen Headbutt. Mimikyu can break past Psychic-type Pokemon that wall Tapu Koko such as Mega Latias and can sweep late-game against Psychic teams with boosted Shadow Sneak once Tapu Koko has weakened key threats. Mimikyu can also break past special walls that Tapu Koko cannot deal with such as Chansey. Klefki provides Spikes, which wears down Tapu Koko's checks each time they switch in, letting it clean more easily late-game. Tapu Koko also appreciates Klefki's ability to switch into Poison-type attacks such as Mega Venusaur's Sludge Bomb and Nihilego's Sludge Wave, as well as its dual screens support, since Tapu Koko's natural bulk is rather poor. Taunt acts as an anti-lead option, preventing entry hazards such as Stealth Rock and Sticky Web from Chansey and Ribombee, setup from Mega Latias and Volcarona, and utility moves such as Zapdos's Substitute and Toxic. U-turn is the main pivoting option over Volt Switch, enabling Tapu Koko to pivot out of foes such as Dugtrio, which can trap Tapu Koko and take advantage of it for using an Electric-type move. Set Details Maximum Speed and Special Attack EVs allow Tapu Koko to hit as hard and fast as possible. The last 4 Defense EVs prevent Gliscor from OHKOing Tapu Koko with Earthquake. A Timid nature permits Tapu Koko to Speed tie with Aerodactyl and Crobat while also outspeeding Greninja and Dugtrio. Magnet provides extra power to an already Electric Terrain-boosted Thunderbolt, hitting anything that doesn't resist it very hard without worrying about recoil damage from a Life Orb. Electric Surge is Tapu Koko's only usable ability, setting up Electric Terrain and boosting all Electric-type moves by 50%. Usage Tips Tapu Koko is generally a great lead, since it can set Electric Terrain, shut down utility foes such as Chansey and Forretress with Taunt, and pivot out of unfavorable lead matchups with U-turn because it's naturally faster than almost everything. However, other Terrain setters such as Tapu Bulu, Tapu Fini, and Mewnium Z Mew can remove Tapu Koko's Electric Terrain. Also, the Electric Terrain fades away after a few turns. Make sure you pivot out to another teammate consistently to keep your momentum and reset the Terrain if need be. Avoid extra chip damage from entry hazards and status, especially from Toxic Spikes, as consistent exposure to them cripples Tapu Koko and lessens its ability to freely set Electric Terrain. Continuously pivoting out with Tapu Koko and its teammates is key to have the opposing team take constant chip damage and keep momentum. Keeping Electric Terrain up is critical for the success of any Electric team, as this set lacks the power of Choice Specs and relies on its teammates to break faster foes. Because of its natural Speed, Tapu Koko can revenge kill weakened threats with Thunderbolt. While Tapu Koko must constantly provide Electric Terrain for its teammates, it should not take excess damage, especially since its bulk is rather subpar. Team Options Alolan Raichu benefits immensely with Tapu Koko around, as Electric Terrain doubles its Speed, making it the fastest presence on the field. During the time Electric Terrain is up, Alolan Raichu can check common Choice Scarf users such as Greninja and Nihilego as well as weather sweepers such as Excadrill and Alolan Sandslash. Tapu Koko further provides aid by Taunting utility foes and pivoting back to Alolan Raichu, creating opportunities for Alolan Raichu to set up a Nasty Plot. Rotom-W provides Tapu Koko with a check to Ground-types through Hydro Pump, as well as an additional immunity to their STAB attacks in the form of Levitate and the ability to cripple physical attackers such as Scizor and Mamoswine with Will-O-Wisp. In return, Tapu Koko can use Taunt against anti-leads and Defog users looking to prevent Stealth Rock, such as lead Aerodactyl and defensive Mew. Thundurus is another physical attacker available to Electric teams, primarily assisting Tapu Koko in breaking the Normal core of Chansey and Porygon2 through the use of Knock Off and Superpower. It also helps against Steel- and Psychic-types such as Excadrill and Latios. Mega Manectric provides a more immediate answer to physical attackers in the form of Intimidate. Its additional access to Fire-type moves such as Flamethrower and Overheat provides more of an offensive measure to bulkier Grass-types such as Ferrothorn and Tapu Bulu. Zeraora stands out from others for being incredibly fast, naturally outspeeding offensive threats such as Mega Lopunny. It's greatly appreciated in the Normal matchup for its great Speed and its combination of Knock Off and Close Combat.

Maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature allows Tapu Koko to outspeed threats such as Dugtrio and Alakazam. The remaining 4 EVs are placed into Defense so that Tapu Koko has just enough bulk to take an Earthquake from uninvested Gliscor. Electric Surge is very crucial, as all Electric-type moves from grounded Pokemon are boosted by 50% under the summoned Electric Terrain. Choice Specs significantly boosts the power of Tapu Koko's attacks; however, locking it into a move that the foe resists can be taken advantage of by opposing Pokemon. Usage Tips When using Tapu Koko, it is often important to lead with it, as setting Electric terrain early sets itself and its teammates up for success by applying immediate offensive pressure. Be cautious of other Terrain setters such as Tapu Bulu and Mewnium Z Mew. While the latter requires a good amount of setup in order to function, the former can immediately be switched into Tapu Koko, switching the Terrain and lessening the prowess of Electric-types overall. Tapu Koko needs to continuously pivot out through the use of Volt Switch in order to keep momentum and reset the Electric Terrain if necessary. Tapu Koko also functions well as a revenge killer, so bring it in on slower, weakened foes and pivot out with Volt Switch to maintain momentum while also taking minimal damage from the opposing Pokemon's attacks. Tapu Koko is very threatening to Dragon teams for its capability to revenge kill nearly any unboosted Dragon-type such as Kyurem-B, Hydreigon, or Garchomp with the combination of Dazzling Gleam and Hidden Power Ice. Pivoting back and forth between Tapu Koko and its teammates through VoltTurn is also beneficial gradually chip at the foe, as well as to escape foes looking to switch into Tapu Koko such as Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur and swap to a teammate such as Magnezone or Alolan Raichu that could better handle them. Zapdos is another physically defensive partner that can avoid Ground-type attacks while also checking physical setup sweepers such as Mega Scizor and Tapu Bulu because of its excellent defensive typing. It also provides solid Defog support for Tapu Koko, allowing it to take as little damage as possible from them. Magnezone is able to trap problematic Steel-types such as Excadrill, Celesteela, Klefki, and Ferrothorn and revenge kill them with Hidden Power Fire or an Electric-type move. The former two are especially important to trap, as Choice Scarf Excadrill has the capacity to revenge kill Tapu Koko with Earthquake, while Celesteela can scout for any move Tapu Koko locks itself into by using Protect. Alolan Golem provides solid Stealth Rock support that can break Focus Sashes and chip opposing Pokemon for Tapu Koko to sweep. Alolan Golem also provides physical prowess for Electric teams, being able to check specially defensive Pokemon that Tapu Koko can't break through easily, such as Chansey and Alolan Muk. Thundurus is a mixed attacker that can assist Tapu Koko in besting Steel teams with the combination of Superpower and Thunderbolt while also having the potential to play a support role through Prankster Thunder Wave and Taunt. The combination of Thundurus and Tapu Koko forms a fast, offensive VoltTurn core as a result. Zeraora is one of the few physical attackers available to Electric teams, and it is greatly appreciated in the Normal matchup due to its combination of Knock Off and Close Combat.

Moves Naturally high speed and access to Volt Switch make Tapu Koko an excellent pivot. When in an unfavorable position, it can easily score some chip damage on an opposing Pokemon while rotating into a Pokemon that can more effectively deal with the situation at hand. Nature's Madness provides a means of consistent damage output, covering for this set's lack of offensive investment and powerful attacks. Electroweb provides Tapu Koko with a way to give itself and its teammates speed initiative as well as knock out severely weakened Pokemon. Sky Drop can be used in lieu of Electroweb to disrupt opposing teams and give Tapu Koko's partner a chance to set up at a lesser risk. Taunt lets Tapu Koko shut down opposing status moves, preventing foes from utilizing speed control options like Trick Room and Tailwind or boosting their stats with attacks like Swords Dance and Dragon Dance. The combination of Taunt and Nature's Madness also makes Tapu Koko a very good check to Pokemon like Chansey and Cresselia, which rely on their bulk and recovery moves to be effective. Defog should be chosen when Tapu Koko is used alongside Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona, which will be severely hindered by taking Stealth Rock damage. Set Details The given Speed EVs and Timid nature allow Tapu Koko to outspeed Mega Salamence, one of the fastest threats in the Doubles OU tier. Thanks to its investment in HP and Defense, Tapu Koko will survive a Stomping Tantrum from Mega Metagross after Stealth Rock or a -1 Kyurem-B's Subzero Slammer. The remaining EVs are dumped into Special Defense, letting Tapu Koko survive a Psychic from Modest Tapu Lele in Psychic Terrain. Wiki Berry is used for recovery, but Assault Vest is another option if a status move like Taunt or Defog is not required. When Assault Vest is the item of choice, an EV spread of 252 HP / 24 Def / 56 SpD / 176 Spe should be used to guarantee survival of sun-boosted Overheat from Mega Charizard Y and Subzero Slammer from -1 Kyurem-B while maintaining the same Speed. The fourth move on Assault Vest Tapu Koko could be the previously unchosen Sky Drop or Electroweb, Thunderbolt for slightly better damage output overall, or Hidden Power Fire to OHKO Kartana. Usage Tips Starting off a battle with Tapu Koko as a lead can be advantageous, since it can easily pivot into a better matchup and the Speed stats of opposing Pokemon like Tapu Koko and Landorus-T can be checked by following the order of ability activation. Scoring some early damage with Nature's Madness can also be very helpful, as chipping targets down to 50% immediately can leave them crippled for the remainder of the battle. If Tapu Koko is used in conjuction with a Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y or Volcarona that desperately requires Stealth Rock to be cleared, Tapu Koko should be preserved until it can enter the field against two Pokemon that either are slower than it or cannot knock it out so it can guarantee a Defog. Electroweb can be spammed when Tapu Koko is in a relatively safe position for some chip damage and, more importantly, speed control. If Tapu Koko is in a position where it can claim a knockout on a severely weakened Pokemon, it is often more advantageous to take the knockout with Electroweb instead of Volt Switch so you get more out of that turn by lowering the Speed of the knocked-out Pokemon's partner. Nature's Madness combines incredibly well with strong attacks from Tapu Koko's partner, often resulting in knockouts. Generally, it is advisable to position yourself in such a way that you can use Nature's Madness and the aforementioned strong attack on the same turn such that your opponent cannot switch or Protect the weakened Pokemon to prevent a knockout on the next turn. If Sky Drop is chosen, the most efficient use of the pickup turn of Sky Drop is either setting up with a partner or switching in a Pokemon with a favorable matchup against the picked up Pokemon. This way, the Pokemon that was picked up cannot use Protect on the following turn before being dropped, and Tapu Koko's partner can secure an all-but-guaranteed knockout. Tapu Koko still isn't the bulkiest of Pokemon in general, so you must be sure not to be careless when using Tapu Koko as a damage sponge. If you lose Tapu Koko before it was able to perform an essential function, such as clearing Stealth Rock for its partners, you may find yourself at a stark disadvantage. Team Options Bulky Tapu Koko is best used on teams that already have ample firepower; since Tapu Koko generally fits the role of a strong, fast attacker, the bulky set requires teammates that can maintain offensive pressure. Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona greatly appreciate the support provided by Tapu Koko because their 4x weaknesses to Stealth Rock all but necessitate entry hazard removal. Additionally, their strong Heat Waves can take advantage of Nature's Madness's ability to prime opposing Pokemon for knockouts. Life Orb Kyurem-B also synergizes well with Tapu Koko thanks to its fantastic BoltBeam + Ground coverage. Ice Beam handles the Ground-types that threaten Tapu Koko, while Electric Terrain and Nature's Madness both combine very well with Kyurem-B's powerful attacks. When Sky Drop is chosen, Pokemon with stat-boosting moves like Calm Mind and Swords Dance are fantastic partners. Common Swords Dance users include Tapu Bulu and Mega Scizor, which both additionally appreciate Tapu Koko's ability to outspeed and significantly damage Mega Charizard Y, while the most effective Calm Mind users are Tapu Fini and Cresselia. Cresselia deserves special mention thanks to Tapu Koko's Electric Surge ability, which allows Cresselia to consume its commonly chosen Electric Seed item and boost its Defense. Choice Band Zygarde makes for an interesting partner, since it benefits from the support provided by Nature's Madness and Electroweb while also being able to smack foes that have been picked up by Sky Drop with Thousand Arrows. Sky Drop also has a unique interaction with Trick Room—if Tapu Koko picks up a Pokemon slower than it while its partner uses Trick Room, its partner can use Trick Room again the following turn as Tapu Koko drops the opposing Pokemon to effectively remove it from battle for two turns. This technique is best used to stall out certain field conditions like rain or force opposing Pokemon to take more residual damage from sources like Toxic and Sand.

Moves Tapu Koko's Thunderbolt is powerful and difficult to switch into with Electric Terrain; this is the move you're probably using the most. Dazzling Gleam, while much weaker, gives Tapu Koko a relatively strong spread STAB move that hits Pokemon such as Kommo-o and Hoopa-U hard while decently damaging Zygarde. Hidden Power Ice allows Tapu Koko to hit Landorus-T, Zygarde, and Mega Salamence much harder than Dazzling Gleam. Volt Switch gives Tapu Koko a strong move that can be used to scout switches or get another Pokemon in easily. Alternatively, Taunt stops the foe from setting up, including stat boosting moves and speed control like Tailwind or Trick Room. Protect lets Tapu Koko block powerful attacks headed its way and do all the other wonderful things Protect does, such as stall out field conditions, but you should use it wisely, as it uses up a turn of Electric Terrain. Set Details Maximum Speed EVs with a Timid nature make use of Tapu Koko's blistering Speed and ensure that it outruns the most Pokemon it can while being able to Speed tie opposing Tapu Koko. Maximum Special Attack EVs with a Life Orb boost Tapu Koko's otherwise mediocre Special Attack stat and make it hit as hard as possible. Alternatively, Electrium Z allows Tapu Koko to use a strong Gigavolt Havoc, picking up a notable OHKO on Mega Metagross. Choice Specs provides another possibility for boosting Tapu Koko's power, with access to Volt Switch easing the troubles of being locked into a move. Teams with enough assurance against Mega Salamence and Naganadel might benefit more from Modest Tapu Koko; aside from those two threats, Tapu Koko doesn't lose any of its ability to outspeed other prevalent threats and the added power can be very useful. Usage Tips Most of the time Tapu Koko will be using Thunderbolt. Typically, switch out if Electric Terrain is gone, as Tapu Koko is somewhat weak without it. Use Protect when Tapu Koko is immediately threatened, thus letting Tapu Koko's partner soften up whatever is on the other side to put it into Thunderbolt's KO range. Moves other than Thunderbolt are typically more situational. Dazzling Gleam is a good move to use when Tapu Koko or its partner can possibly pick up two KOs or when you're staring down a Kommo-o or Scrafty. Hidden Power Ice snipes down Pokemon 4x weak to Ice, but shouldn't be used much otherwise. Thunderbolt will almost always do more damage to each target unless it's resisted. If Thunderbolt is resisted and Dazzling Gleam is super effective, such as against Kyurem-B, or Dazzling Gleam is 4x effective, such as against Scrafty, Dazzling Gleam will do more, but otherwise it is better to just use Thunderbolt. Team Options While Tapu Koko requires some team support, it's a strong standalone Pokemon that fits on many teams. Pokemon with Ice-type coverage are good partners, as they can hit every Electric-resistant or Ground-type Pokemon hard, with Kyurem-B and Genesect being notable options. Kyurem-B also benefits from Electric Terrain's boost, allowing it to beat Celesteela with Fusion Bolt. Tapu Koko's ability to beat bulky Water-types and Flying-types enables the Pokemon they normally wall to use their moves freely, such as Zygarde, Mega Charizard Y, and Kingdra.

Calm Mind helps patch up Tapu Koko's mediocre Special Defense while making it a deceptively powerful special sweeper. Thunderbolt is the reliable STAB Tapu Koko needs to become a powerful special sweeper. Dazzling Gleam might be weak, but after a Calm Mind boost, it actually OHKOes Garchomp and Mega Salamence. Hidden Power Ice is a good alternative to hit Landorus-T harder. Roost has good synergy with Calm Mind, letting Tapu Koko set up effectively against more defensive Pokemon. Substitute protects Tapu Koko from status moves, which is helpful against Cresselia and Porygon2. Extra coverage is a reasonable option. Grass Knot crushes Hippowdon and defeats Mamoswine after it loses its Focus Sash. Hidden Power Fire deals a ton of damage to Ferrothorn, while Hidden Power Ground can be used to hit Alolan Marowak and Magnezone hard. Electrium Z lets Tapu Koko obliterate Pokemon after a Calm Mind boost. For example, under Electric Terrain, Tapu Koko have a 93.8% chance of OHKOing Porygon2 with +1 Gigavolt Havoc. Leftovers lets Tapu Koko stick around longer, and is especially useful with Roost. For more defensive alternatives, one can run an Electric Seed to boost defense. With maximum HP, this can survive Garchomp's Earthquake. Shuca Berry is useful for similar reasons. With Life Orb, Tapu Koko has a good shot of OHKOing fast Alolan Marowak with boosted Hidden Power Ground. Against bulky Alolan Marowak, Tapu Koko can beat them when they are at around 80% of their health with a boosted Hidden Power Ground. Focus Sash might seem strange on a Calm Mind user, but it does allow Tapu Koko to be used as an emergency check against sweepers such as Mega Gyarados, and use its Calm Mind powers against different teams. This Tapu Koko works best late-game, where it can unexpectedly set up and sweep. When using it early-game, consider keeping Calm Mind concealed to surprise your foes. Having another Tapu on your team is highly recommended, since this Tapu Koko relies on Electric Terrain to sweep effectively without many boosts, so resetting the terrain can be a life saver. Choice Scarf Garchomp, Excadrill, and Landorus-T are big problems since they can just OHKO Tapu Koko before it can severely damage them. Make sure to prepare for them.

Tapu Koko can used a mixed set to take advantage of its common switch-ins, with Brave Bird 2HKOing Mega Venusaur and Tapu Bulu, letting Tapu Koko potentially sweep with Thunderbolt. Dazzling Gleam 2HKOes Garchomp and Mega Salamence and OHKOes Hydreigon, while Hidden Power Ice 2HKOes Landorus-T. U-turn is an excellent scouting move that hits incoming Ground-types, though Volt Switch has more power. Hidden Power Fire is useful against Ferrothorn, making Tapu Koko even more difficult to wall than usual. Life Orb fits this set the best, since Tapu Koko needs all the power it can get to be a successful lure. Naive lets Tapu Koko take priority attacks a bit more comfortably, but Hasty ensures that Porygon2 won't get a Special Attack boost, but it does ruin the surprise of Tapu Koko being mixed. Focus on surprising your opponents with Brave Bird or Hidden Power Fire to open sweeps for your teammates.

A Choice Scarf may seem like overkill, but it outspeeds some very important threats, such as +1 Mega Gyarados, Choice Scarf Garchomp, and Pheromosa. A Choice Specs makes Tapu Koko a frightening end-game cleaner. Thunderbolt is the best option for a STAB, while Volt Switch and U-turn are good scouting moves to consider, with Volt Switch being the more powerful option, and U-turn hitting Ground-types. Dazzling Gleam 2HKOes Garchomp and Mega Salamence, and OHKOes Hydreigon. However, Hidden Power Ice hits Landorus-T harder, and hits Garchomp and Mega Salamence just as hard as Dazzling Gleam. Hidden Power Fire deals solid damage to Ferrothorn, while Grass Knot hits Mamoswine and Hippowdon. Hidden Power Ground can also be used if Alolan Marowak and Magnezone are especially big problems. Brave Bird with a Naive nature is an option on Choice Scarf sets to deal much more damage to Volcarona and Tapu Bulu. Don't throw out Electric-type attacks early-game, since most players will switch into an immunity. Consider double-switching or using U-turn instead. Ground-types need to be addressed, since they will prevent Tapu Koko from sweeping, so make sure to pack in good checks to them.

Thunderbolt is the best STAB option for Tapu Koko, while Dazzling Gleam 2HKOes Garchomp, Mega Salamence, and OHKOes Hydreigon. Hidden Power Ice can be used to 2HKO Landorus-T if that's more important. Hidden Power Fire deals serious damage to Ferrothorn and Excadrill, Grass Knot slams Mamoswine and Hippowdon, and Hidden Power Ground deals a lot of damage to Magnezone and Alolan Marowak. Tapu Koko will want a scouting move. Volt Switch hits pretty hard and is great for wearing down teams, but it can easily be stopped by the likes of Alolan Marowak and Garchomp. U-turn doesn't hit nearly as hard, but always works regardless of the switch-in. If you wish, you can replace Volt Switch or U-turn with extra coverage to give Tapu Koko more superior match-ups at the cost of scouting. Taunt can also work to stop Stealth Rock from coming up and shutting down recovery from the likes of Porygon2. Life Orb gives Tapu Koko the most reasonable amount of power. Electrium Z gives Tapu Koko a very powerful attack with Z-Thunderbolt, good for picking off weakened walls like Porygon2. Focus Sash allows Tapu Koko to defeat certain Pokemon one-on-one such as Garchomp. Timid works best for the extra Speed. Tapu Koko works out very well early-game due to U-turn and Volt Switch letting it scout the opponent's Pokemon choices. Carrying a Ground-type resistance is essential, since Tapu Koko's biggest problems are offensive Ground-types. Consider using another Tapu to reset the Terrain, so Tapu Koko doesn't have to worry about Electric Terrain running out nearly as much.

Wild Charge might seem like a downgrade from Thunderbolt on the specially based set due to all the recoil, but Tapu Koko's higher Attack stat means that it makes Tapu Koko less vulnerable to Terrain changes. Most notably, it gives Life Orb Tapu Koko a good shot at OHKOing offensive Tapu Fini in Misty Terrain. Brave Bird is Tapu Koko's best move against Tapu Bulu and fast Alolan Marowak, 2HKOing them both. Brave Bird also 2HKOs bulky Alolan Marowak with some chip damage. U-turn is the preferable scouting move so Tapu Koko can switch out against Ground-types and Alolan Marowak. Dazzling Gleam is fairly weak, but it still 2HKOes Garchomp and Mega Salamence, and OHKOes Hydreigon. Hidden Power Ice is an alternate option for dealing much more damage to Landorus-T. Mirror Move paired with Flyinium Z lets Tapu Koko not only get +2 Attack, but also potentially use Z version of the last moved used, which can be a devastating surprise. Maximum Attack and Speed are needed so Wild Charge will deal good damage. Naive is slightly preferred for its ability to take priority attacks better, but Hasty does avoid a Download boost from Porygon2. Life Orb makes Tapu Koko go down fast, but it lets Tapu Koko get important KOs, such as a 2HKO on fast Alolan Marowak, an OHKO on Mimikyu and bulky Mega Gengar, and an OHKO on Tapu Lele with Wild Charge. Magnet means Tapu Koko loses out on the 2HKO on Alolan Marowak, but it does let Tapu Koko still OHKO Tapu Lele under Electric Terrain without the extra recoil. Electrium Z makes Tapu Koko weaker overall, but Gigavolt Havoc is extremely powerful and has no recoil. As an example of its power, it has a shot at OHKOing Aegislash and Mega Salamence. Naive lets Tapu Koko take priority attacks better, but Hasty is notable for avoiding a Download boost from Porygon2. This Tapu Koko works best late-game, since Wild Charge and Brave Bird recoil wear it down fast. This also takes advantage of the surprise value of using physical attacks. In addition to the usual problematic Ground-types, Ferrothorn is a much bigger problem than usual since Tapu Koko will often get hit by Iron Barbs recoil. Make sure to prepare for Ferrothorn in particular.
