Play Rough pressures slower threats like Slowking and RestTalk Primarina after a boost, as it can OHKO anything that does not resist it, including a fully defensive Tangrowth. A boosted Knock Off will OHKO Amoonguss and defensive Celesteela. Sitrus Berry allows Azumarill to set up more reliably and puts it at a comfortable amount of HP after a Belly Drum. 4 HP is needed to activate Sitrus Berry after Belly Drum. Adamant is the preferred nature to guarantee an OHKO on Amoonguss with Knock Off. Belly Drum Azumarill fits best on hyper offense teams due to its nature as a late-game cleaner and need for dedicated support. Krookodile and Excadrill provide entry hazard support to put threats like Tentacruel and Skarmory in range of Azumarill's attacks while also providing an Electric immunity. Similarly, Ribombee can provide Sticky Web support to offset Azumarill's vulnerable Speed tier, allowing it to now outpace Tentacruel and Tapu Bulu. Once Azumarill is boosted with Belly Drum, it typically will not get another chance to do so, so removing faster Water-type resists is key. Good offensive teammates include Salamence and Gyarados to help take out foes like Zarude and Keldeo. Thundurus-T pressures Skarmory, Scizor, and Mandibuzz for Azumarill and provides a valuable Electric immunity. Early-game sweepers like Scizor and Azelf can pave the way for an Azumarill sweep by removing threats to Azumarill like Tangrowth and Keldeo.

Liquidation lets Azumarill muscle past Hippowdon, Celesteela, and Chansey. Play Rough is Azumarill's main attack to remove foes like Zarude, Primarina, and Slowking. Aqua Jet becomes a very powerful STAB priority move when bolstered by Huge Power and a Choice Band, allowing it to OHKO Nihilego and revenge kill Thundurus-T and Rotom-H after they have taken sufficient chip damage. Ice Punch allows Azumarill to break through Amoonguss by 2HKOing it on the switch. It also hits Tangrowth hard. Knock Off can be used to burden anything that switches in, such as Tangrowth and Tentacruel, by removing their item. A Choice Band allows Azumarill to maximize the wallbreaking potential its STAB attacks have to offer. Adamant is the preferred nature to make it as strong as possible, notably 2HKOing Skarmory with Liquidation after Stealth Rock. Choice Band Azumarill fits best on bulky offense teams as a powerful early-game wallbreaker. Pivots like Thundurus-T and Scizor can bring Azumarill in against their checks like Nihilego and Moltres to fire off an attack. Nidoking, Moltres, and Salamence can remove bulky Grass-types like Amoonguss, Tangrowth, and Tapu Bulu for Azumarill to fire off its STAB attacks easier. Keeping entry hazards up is important to ease Azumarill's ability to break through Tangrowth and Skarmory, so partners such as Excadrill and Nihilego are essential. The former provides entry hazard removal to keep Azumarill from getting worn down while the latter offensively checks Thundurus-T. Tapu Bulu and Zarude threaten to revenge kill Azumarill, as they are faster and resist Aqua Jet, so partners like Salamence and Amoonguss that can comfortably switch into them are ideal. Having a good Electric-immune teammate, such as Swampert or Hippowdon, helps deal with Electric-types like Rotom-W and Thundurus-T.

Set Description This set stalls out would-be checks such as Celesteela and Grass types such as Rillaboom, Zarude, and some Tapu Bulu sets. Amnesia and Charm both weaken incoming attacks, eventually letting Azumarill chip foes down with Seismic Toss. The rest of the EVs are dumped into Special Defense for improved odds to beat Timid Porygon-Z and Choice Specs Spectrier. Aqua Jet picks off weakened foes, Custap Berry users, and Sturdy users like Magnezone, Garchomp, Primarina, and Porygon-Z. EVs The bulk investment and Assault Vest allow Azumarill to survive Choice Specs Magnezone's Thunderbolt and Choice Band Urshifu's Poison Jab. The rest is dumped into Attack, notably improving your odds against Togekiss, Primarina, Magnezone, and Garchomp. An alternate spread of 88 HP / 168 Atk / 252 SpD with a Careful nature lets Azumarill tank Choice Specs Porygon-Z's Hyper Beam while maximizing Attack. Usage Tips Using the highest damaging move will most likely give you the win. Against low health foes, especially Custap Berry + Sturdy users like Sawk and Magnezone, you should always use Aqua Jet to KO them. Against opponents like Aromatisse, Gardevoir, or Ninetales-Alola which may be using Encore and Disable together, you should alternate between Play Rough and Liquidation to secure the matchup. Specifically against Gardevoir, if put in a situation where Azumarill has a move disabled and Gardevoir can click Encore the next turn without the move failing, Azumarill should click Aqua Jet so that it cannot be forced to Struggle. However, against Salazzle, Azumarill should instead switch between Liquidation and Aqua Jet to avoid being forced to struggle. Against Sawk and non-Choice Band Crustle, prediction is required with using Aqua Jet and either Liquidation or Play Rough to avoid the foe's Counter OHKOing Azumarill.

This set is designed for Azumarill to clean up late-game or heavily cripple the opposition. Once set-up Aqua Jet is its go-to move for most situations thanks to its priority. Sitrus Berry helps Azumarill beat priority revenge killers and take a hit while setting up. Mystic Water is an alternative to strengthen Aqua Jet and give a small chance to 2HKO Unaware Clefable with Waterfall. Azumarill can set up against a Latias Choiced locked into Draco Meteor or Surf, or on a Garchomp locked into Outrage. After setting up, Azumarill does need to worry about phazers like full-health Skarmory and maximally physically defensive Empoleon, but it can blow past chipped Skarmory and other Empoleon sets. Azumarill works best on hyper offense teams, where it can immediately threaten a sweep after a turn of setup. This set does get checked by Unaware Clefable, which is a common blanket check for the numerous setup sweepers in the tier, so a teammate like Lucario that can deal with it is great. Azumarill will need teammates that can handle Shaymin and Breloom, since both can take an Aqua Jet at +6 and threaten it with an OHKO. The most important tip with using this set is to, before sweeping, use teammates to wear down or take out Pokemon that avoid the OHKO from +6 Aqua Jet. For example, Choice Scarf users such as Infernape can wear down Starmie, and Latias with U-Turn. Scizor's U-Turn threatens to OHKO those threats and can get Azumarill into the game safely without losing momentum. Alakazam and Weavile both threaten Starmie, and Latias with their superior Speed. Garchomp is another great teammate for Azumarill to provide Stealth Rock and also deal with Magnezone, which outspeeds Azumarill and threatens it before Belly Drum. Azelf, and suicide lead Skarmory support Azumarill and its hyper offense teammates with dual screens and entry hazards. Focus Sash Alakazam, Breloom, and Dragonite are notable late-game cleaners that appreciate Azumarill's wallbreaking ability, which makes their roles easier.

Choice Band makes Azumarill a potent immediate wallbreaker with very few switch-ins, which forces frightening predictions. Even Slowbro has a modest chance to get 2HKOed by Play Rough after Stealth Rock. The most notable difference from Belly Drum Azumarill is that this set beats the premier Unaware users of the tier: Clefable and Quagsire. Choice Band Azumarill's fourth move of choice is Superpower, which can take out Steel-types such as Empoleon, Lucario, and Magnezone on the switch. Choice Band Azumarill struggles against bulky Grass-types. Weavile can handle Shaymin and Tangrowth alongside Starmie, and Latias. Infernape can pivot Azumarill in with U-Turn alongside beating the Grass-types of the tier. Garchomp switches into Volt Switch and Electric-type moves in general, along with providing Stealth Rock for offense teams. Scizor pivots Azumarill in and tends to invite in Heatran and Infernape, which Azumarill performs well against. Rotom-W and Gliscor are notable defensive pivots that Azumarill works well with thanks to their Will-O-Wisp support and Electric immunity, respectively. Focus Sash Alakazam appreciates Choice Band Azumarill bulldozing the opposition and weakening its checks so it can clean up.

Belly Drum Azumarill is an effective sweeper with its STAB Aqua Jet, which lets it pick up KOs on threats like Thundurus-T, Nihilego, and Zeraora. Knock Off can OHKO targets that comfortably tank Aqua Jet, like Amoonguss, Aegislash, and Gastrodon, after a Belly Drum. It also has the added utility of removing items, like Toxapex's Black Sludge or Mantine's Heavy-Duty Boots. Substitute is used to avoid status conditions and set up on defensive Pokemon like Torkoal and defensive Aegislash when Azumarill is behind Light Screen. Brick Break can also be used, as it hits Pokemon like Melmetal for more damage. Play Rough is an option for targets that survive both Knock Off and Aqua Jet, like Hydreigon. 4 HP EVs allow Azumarill to trigger its Sitrus Berry after a Belly Drum every time. The Speed EVs allow it to outpace most defensive Pokemon like Aegislash and Celesteela. It is a good idea to set up Belly Drum with dual screens active or in front of a passive Pokemon, since Azumarill usually only gets once chance to use it. You also don't want to use Belly Drum if Tapu Lele's Psychic Terrain will still be active, since it prevents Aqua Jet from being used. Klefki is an invaluable teammate because of its dual screens—allowing Azumarill to set up more easily, Spikes, and Steel typing providing a Poison immunity and resistance to Ice. Spikes support is incredibly important for Azumarill, allowing it to always OHKO Pokemon like Toxapex and Ferrothorn after a Belly Drum. Clefable's utility options in Stealth Rock and Knock Off cripples foes and makes it easier for Azumarill to sweep as well. Tapu Bulu is great because it can beat Electric-types like Rotom-W and Alolan Raichu. It can revenge kill threats like Zapdos and Thundurus-T with a Choice Scarf or break through defensive Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Toxapex with Substitute + Swords Dance. Tapu Koko is a great offensive pivot that provides STAB Thunderbolt and Dazzling Gleam to hit troublesome Water- and Dragon-types like Mantine, Toxapex, Latios, and Kyurem for Azumarill. Tapu Lele can beat Poison- and Dragon-types like Nidoking, Hydreigon, and Latias with its STAB Psyshock and Moonblast. Nasty Plot Togekiss can remove troublesome Poison- and Grass-types like Toxapex, Galarian Weezing, Ferrothorn, and Rillaboom. Other dual screens sweepers like Bulk Up Grimmsnarl and Swords Dance Mimikyu can work together with Azumarill and break down the opposing team. Both are excellent in the Ghost or Psychic matchup with their STAB, super effective attacks and priority attacks.

Superpower lets Azumarill deal hefty damage to Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Melmetal. Klefki is an incredible teammate, providing dual screens and a switch-in to Ice-, Grass-, and Poison-type attacks, as well as Spikes, which Azumarill heavily appreciates to pick up KOs more easily. Clefable's Stealth Rock and Knock Off are equally helpful for Azumarill. It also has Magic Guard, letting it act as a status absorber for Azumarill. However, Tapu Lele's Psychic Surge can sometimes prevent Azumarill from using Aqua Jet. Tapu Bulu enjoys Azumarill revenge killing Pokemon like Volcarona and Choice Scarf Blacephalon. In return, Tapu Bulu can beat Electric-type Pokemon like Rotom-W and Tapu Koko. It also beats Water-types like Mantine and Seismitoad. Togekiss beats Grass's and Poison's defensive cores with Substitute + Nasty Plot, that Azumarill has trouble breaking through. Bulk Up Grimmsnarl and Swords Dance Mimikyu are other great dual screens attackers that help beat Ghost and Psychic.

Azumarill has significant positive traits, notably access to Huge Power in conjunction with Belly Drum and STAB priority, along with defensive utility in a typing that allows it to be a decent check to certain Pokemon, such as Weavile, Ash-Greninja, and Hydreigon. While these attributes might make it look like a solid sweeper for dual screens hyper offense teams, this is not the case; Azumarill has to contend with an exceptionally hostile metagame, as faster Water-resistant Pokemon, such as Kartana, Rotom-W, Serperior, Kyurem, and Tapu Bulu all halt it in its tracks. Priority from the likes of Rillaboom, Mega Medicham, and Mega Lopunny also presents issues, while Tapu Lele's Psychic Terrain removes Aqua Jet from the equation entirely. Chip damage from Iron Barbs and Rocky Helmet doesn't help either, as it can quickly wear down Azumarill into range of other priority users. While Azumarill can break through and OHKO slow Water-resistant Pokemon like Toxapex, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth after Stealth Rock damage, these Pokemon are often paired with teammates that can deal with Azumarill more naturally, such as faster Water-resistant Pokemon like Mega Latias and Kartana or powerful priority users like Mega Lopunny and Mega Medicham. These drawbacks leave Azumarill as a very inconsistent sweeper with no real niche in the metagame. Z-Belly Drum fully heals Azumarill before its use, ensuring Azumarill receives the boost and therefore giving it its best shot at potentially sweeping opposing teams. If your team already has a Z-Move user, Sitrus Berry is an option that can give Azumarill a bit more health after setting up in a best-case scenario, but such scenarios are quite rare, and the loss of health from Belly Drum makes it much harder for Azumarill to find opportunities to set up while also preventing it from effectively checking Weavile and Ash-Greninja. Knock Off is the preferred last move in order to OHKO Toxapex and Ferrothorn after Stealth Rock damage. This set works best on hyper offense and rain teams, as Azumarill can theoretically work as an early-game wallbreaker on hyper offense, while rain significantly boosts the power of Aqua Jet and gives it more favorable rolls against threats like Zapdos and Garchomp, which can make it easier for Azumarill to sweep via giving Aqua Jet. However, both playstyles have far better options available to them; hyper offense can utilize numerous other, more consistent sweepers, such as Kommo-o, Rillaboom, and Volcarona, while Mega Swampert, Ash-Greninja, and Manaphy are all far superior rain sweepers.

An amazing Attack stat thanks to Huge Power, access to priority in Aqua Jet and Belly Drum to further take advantage of its amazing Attack stat, and a decent typing cement Azumarill as an effective physical attacker that helps greatly in matchups such as Fire, Ground, and Steel. Aqua Jet allows it to deal with faster threats like Volcarona and Mamoswine, making up for its subpar Speed stat. Knock Off hits Psychic- and Ghost-types like Jirachi and Aegislash for super effective damage, and it's able to OHKO Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Celesteela and bulky walls like Toxapex with minor or no chip damage after Belly Drum. Play Rough is a stronger STAB option that deals with Dragon- and Dark-types such as Kommo-o and Mandibuzz. Maximum Speed EVs make Azumarill as fast as possible, outspeeding threats such as Dragalge and Melmetal. Normalium Z is Azumarill's preferred item, as it nullifies chip damage taken prior to using Belly Drum while also preventing Azumarill from being crippled by Knock Off, as opposed to Sitrus Berry. The added perk of Normalium Z is that Azumarill can use Belly Drum without it to use Z-Belly Drum later, either recovering its HP back to full if it didn't switch out. Klefki pairs up exceptionally well with Azumarill. Klefki acts as a much needed Poison immunity and provides dual screens support and Spikes support, the former allowing Azumarill to set up more easily and the latter chipping down foes for it. Tapu Koko helps greatly in the Flying- and Water-type matchups, while Mega Diancie is able to bounce off entry hazards as well as status moves directed at Azumarill. Mega Diancie can also provide Stealth Rock support, which helps it further improve the Fire- and Flying-type matchups, and aid in matchups like Poison, Steel, and Electric thanks to a wide range of coverage options in Psychic, Mystical Fire, and Earth Power. Tapu Bulu is a great asset in the Water-, Electric- and Ground-type matchups. Tapu Lele is not only a great wallbreaker when equipped with a Choice Specs, but also a great help against Poison-types such as Mega Venusaur and Galarian Weezing that threaten Azumarill. Mimikyu helps greatly in the Ghost- and Psychic-type matchups, dealing with Pokemon like Aegislash and Tapu Lele. Lastly, Togekiss synergizes well with Azumarill, as it deals with Grass-types troublesome to Azumarill, like Mega Venusaur and Ferrothorn, while Azumarill in return deals with Rock-type threats to Togekiss.

Azumarill is an uncommon but unique wallbreaker in Battle Stadium, with decent bulk, useful dual STAB coverage, and a great priority move to beat much of the metagame that doesn't resist its attacks. Superpower gives Azumarill a way to beat Ferrothorn while providing Max Knuckle Attack boosts during Dynamax, whereas Bounce is used with Life Orb to help Azumarill become a surprise sweeper. The given EVs allow Azumarill to have decent bulk while outspeeding uninvested Celesteela, and avoiding a Special Attack boost from Download Porygon2. The leftover 4 EVs can be put anywhere but Defense. Items Assault Vest makes Azumarill quite bulky, especially while Dynamaxed. Choice Band makes Azumarill an effective hit and run attacker. Life Orb, while compromising Azumarill's bulk, is the most effective wall-breaking tool for it, making Azumarill a good Dynamax attacker.

Azumarill is the only viable Pokemon in the format with access to Belly Drum and a priority attack, making it a great setup sweeper. Sitrus Berry and HP EVs that grant an even number of HP are used so that Azumarill can remain healthy after Belly Drum’s use. The 4 Defense EVs ensure Azumarill survives Mega Salamence’s Double-Edge. Fake Out Mega Kangaskhan makes an excellent partner, as it can immobilize a foe hindersome to Azumarill’s setup such as a Taunt user. Redirection support from the likes of Rage Powder Amoonguss, which resists Electric, and Follow Me Togekiss, which can redirect the moves of Grass-types, can also keep Azumarill unharmed.

Azumarill’s natural bulk combined with Assault Vest makes it a good switch-in to common special attackers. The aforementioned means this set should avoid the lead position, where it’s unavailable to switch in and vulnerable to Intimidate. The given EVs importantly allow Azumarill to survive Adamant Mega Salamence’s Double-Edge. This set is commonly utilized on sand teams featuring Tyranitar and Mega Salamence, as Azumarill can easily switch into the Water- and Ice-type attacks aimed at them. The same goes for Landorus-T, whose Intimidate combined with Salamence’s access to the same ability compensates for Azumarill’s lower Defense.

Moves Belly Drum allows Azumarill to maximize its Attack stat to threatening levels. Aqua Jet helps mitigate Azumarill's poor Speed stat, taking out faster Pokemon such as Volcarona and Zapdos that would otherwise threaten it. Knock Off is great against Steel teams, removing Celesteela after slight chip damage as well as taking out Ferrothorn. Play Rough is the preferred move on Adamant sets, as they are going to be slower than Return targets such as Mega Venusaur, meaning the stronger STAB attack is more important for Pokemon like Porygon2. On the other hand, Return is extremely important for Jolly Azumarill to take out Mega Venusaur with slight chip damage, as otherwise it'll be stopped and removed with one of Mega Venusaur's STAB attacks. Set Details Huge Power doubles Azumarill's Attack stat. 252 Attack with 252 Speed EV investment maximizes Azumarill's power and speed; the Speed investment in particular allows Azumarill to outpace Pokemon like Klefki and defensive Mega Scizor. 4 Special Defense EVs are used to prevent Porygon2 from getting a Special Attack boost with Download. An Adamant nature maximizes Azumarill's Attack stat, while a Jolly nature lets it outpace checks like Mega Venusaur and Mantine. Normalium Z lets Azumarill set up against nearly anything by fully healing Azumarill before it cuts its health in half from Belly Drum. Usage Tips Z-Belly Drum will not halve Azumarill's HP if it is already at +6 Attack but will still restore it to full HP, so if Azumarill is up against an extremely weak or Choice-locked resisted attacker, use Z-Belly Drum after boosting with Belly Drum to safely heal. Jolly Azumarill counters Poison and Steel teams, so make sure to maximize your chances and wait for the opportune moment to sweep. For example, increase your chances of winning by supporting Azumarill with Spikes and dual screens support from Klefki and Stealth Rock from Mega Diancie. Also, make sure to weaken Poison teams with Psychic Mega Diancie and Swords Dance + Zen Headbutt Tapu Bulu before trying to set up and sweep with Azumarill. Similarly, against Steel teams, weaken Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Celesteela with teammates like Fire Blast + Babiri Berry Clefable before setting up with Azumarill. Wear down defensive counterplay like Rotom-Wash into range of Azumarill's attacks before trying to sweep the opposing team, as if you use Belly Drum with major roadblocks in the way, Azumarill will accomplish nothing. Azumarill shouldn't be categorized as only a sweeper, as Knock Off provides great support; to give a specific example, Azumarill is a good lead against Flying teams, forcing Gliscor out and preventing Poison Heal from being activated, allowing Mega Diancie to 2HKO it or weaken answers like Celesteela for teammates like Mimikyu. Knock Off Azumarill is also one of the only ways that Fairy can cripple Alolan Muk. Avoid every type of status, as they all cripple Azumarill's sweeping potential. Swords Dance + Zen Headbutt Tapu Bulu weakens Poison teams, making it much easier for Azumarill to sweep late-game. Sticky Web Ribombee lets Azumarill outpace checks like Speed-invested Mega Venusaur. Mimikyu is great for dealing with Psychic teams and beats Pokemon like Celebi, Latias, and Latios that check Azumarill. Babiri Berry + Fire Blast Clefable provides Stealth Rock support and can take out checks like Mega Scizor for Azumarill.

Moves Perish Song allows Azumarill to KO any target that cannot pivot out. To make Perish Song reliable, Whirlpool prevents Pokemon from switching out of Azumarill, making sure that they are KOed. As Azumarill must take at least one or two hits to pull off the trap, Rest keeps Azumarill healthy and allows it to easily Perish trap walls by curing status and healing to full health, preventing them from permanently Toxic poisoning or seriously crippling it. Protect allows Azumarill to stall out an extra turn of Perish Song and also scouts Choice item-using Pokemon while giving another turn of Leftovers recovery, which can be the difference between surviving and being KOed by a powerful attacker. Set Details Sap Sipper makes Azumarill immune to Grass-type moves, which is an invaluable immunity for Water teams, as they are naturally weak to Grass. An EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD and a Calm nature maximize Azumarill's special bulk, enabling it to take on a wide range of special attackers including Mega Charizard Y and even Mega Venusaur. A spread maximizing Azumarill's physical bulk can be used to minimize damage taken from Tapu Bulu, but it makes Azumarill less reliable overall. Leftovers gives Azumarill passive healing, improving its ability to reliably Perish trap. Usage Tips Azumarill's most precious resource is its health. If it's at full HP, it can take on even Mega Venusaur. As a result, it's essential that Azumarill only take hits when it's necessary in order to Perish trap and should primarily come in on walls such as Chansey and Slowbro, as they rarely are able to beat Azumarill thanks to Rest. However, even offensive Pokemon can be beaten if Azumarill resists their main attacks; Azumarill typically needs a free switch into these threats to properly trap them, though. Once into play safely, Azumarill should almost always use Whirlpool immediately to trap either the target or whatever Pokemon switches in. In doing so, Azumarill can reduce prediction needed if a different Pokemon than it expects comes in. Whirlpool's residual damage can also actually wear down offensive threats slowly when combined with Protect, so that is a viable alternative strategy if Azumarill is unlikely to have enough time to Perish trap something. Perish Song should be used whenever it's safe after trapping a target. The time Whirlpool traps for varies, but it can be as low as only four turns, so it's important to Perish Song as soon as possible. When Perish Song is active, Protect and Rest should be used to stall turns out. As long as Azumarill is not 2HKOed, it can trap almost any Pokemon by using Perish Song, Protect, and Rest in that order. Against balance or stall teams, Azumarill should use Rest liberally even if Perish Song hasn't been activated yet, as it can easily use sleep turns on walls that can't touch it and finish trapping later. Team Options Pokemon with an Electric immunity, such as Quagsire and Lanturn, are essential for taking on the Electric-types that Azumarill cannot. Lanturn is especially useful, as it can use Heal Bell to cleanse Azumarill of status and can use its slow Volt Switch to pivot into Azumarill safely. Alomomola's huge HP means it can pass massive Wishes to Azumarill, offering it a very welcome way to heal without relying on Rest. Entry hazard users appreciate having Azumarill trap and remove Defoggers and spinners. In turn, hazards wear down switch-ins to Azumarill. Toxapex is particularly useful, as Toxic Spikes cripples Pokemon like Volcanion and Cradily that cannot be trapped, and it also supports Azumarill by checking Poison-types. Pivots of all kind make it easier to bring Azumarill into play, making VoltTurn Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Greninja and Rotom-Wash great teammates. Setup sweepers such as Mega Gyarados have a much easier time sweeping teams if their checks are removed by Azumarill. Suicune and Mega Slowbro are two other great examples of potent defensive setup threats that are able to more easily execute their strategy with Azumarill's support. While Azumarill is quite capable of breaking most walls, wallbreakers such as Keldeo are still useful for taking on those that are immune to Water or stallbreakers like Gliscor that Azumarill has trouble with.

Moves Belly Drum allows Azumarill to maximize its Attack stat, increasing it to sky-high levels. Aqua Jet makes up for Azumarill’s lackluster Speed, allowing it to also clean late-game after the opposing team is weakened. Knock Off allows Azumarill to break through bulky Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Celesteela, and Skarmory and provides further utility in removing items such as Eviolite on Chansey and Porygon2. Return is used alongside a Jolly nature in order to outspeed Mega Venusaur and OHKO it after Stealth Rock as well as break through Toxapex a lot more easily. Since Belly Drum cuts Azumarill’s HP in half, Azumarill should not take any damage if possible and avoid any status conditions such as poison, burn, and paralysis, as these can impede the progress of sweeping. Without Normalium Z, Belly Drum Azumarill must be even more careful and shouldn't take any hits if it can afford to, as if it gets too low, it cannot activate Belly Drum. With dual screens support, Azumarill can set up with Belly Drum more safely. Azumarill can also freely set up in front of Pokemon that it walls as they switch out. Aqua Jet is the main move Azumarill should use for beating faster Pokemon after using Belly Drum. Azumarill may also be sent out at an earlier point if an opposing Pokemon is very weak and can be taken out with Aqua Jet. Also, if it can remove a key item with the threat of Knock Off, it may be sent out earlier as well. Return on Jolly Azumarill is specifically run to break through Mega Venusaur, as it can outspeed and KO Mega Venusaur with Stealth Rock up. Team Options Klefki is arguably the most vital teammate, as it can set up both Reflect and Light Screen, spread paralysis with Thunder Wave, set up Spikes to break potential Focus Sashes and Sturdy, and wear down the opposing team, aiding Azumarill to sweep. Klefki also can carry Foul Play, which punishes Mega Scizor or any other Attack-boosting Pokemon from setting up Swords Dance. Tapu Bulu can switch into Electric-type attacks, which are a threat to Azumarill, and take care of bulky Water-types, mainly Water Absorb Pokemon that check Azumarill such as Seismitoad and Mantine. Tapu Bulu can also run a Z-Move, either All-Out Pummeling or Continental Crush, now that Azumarill is running Sitrus Berry, which increases Tapu Bulu's wallbreaking potential and allows it to break Pokemon it could not break before as easily. Tapu Bulu also provides Grassy Terrain, which provides Azumarill with passive recovery. Tapu Koko is also a great teammate for Azumarill, as it can get rid of Pokemon that can threaten Azumarill such as Keldeo, Gyarados, and Suicune. It also can get rid of threats that Azumarill may not be able to outspeed and KO such as faster variants of Mantine and Mandibuzz. Clefable provides Stealth Rock support to further chip away at the opposing team and break non-grounded Sturdy and Focus Sash Pokemon. With Babiri Berry and Fire Blast, Clefable can also serve as a Mega Scizor check, which can open up an opportunity for Azumarill to sweep, and wear down Ferrothorn substantially. It can also utilize Thunder Wave to slow down threats, allowing Azumarill to outspeed them. Mega Diancie is a strong mixed attacker that can break through Unaware Pokemon such as Quagsire, which Azumarill struggles to break. Mega Diancie can also bounce back potential hazards and status with the ability Magic Bounce. Mimikyu is a great teammate for Azumarill, as they both share the same checks. For example, Azumarill can break Alakazam's Focus Sash to open up a late-game clean for Mimikyu or vice versa. Mimikyu can also beat Latios, Latias, Celebi, and Jirachi, which Azumarill cannot.

Moves Aqua Jet lets a boosted Azumarill pick off specific threats and break opposing teams without the risk of getting outrun. Play Rough is used to hit prevalent Pokemon that resist Water-type attacks such as Tapu Fini and Tapu Bulu as well as hitting Dragon-types such as Kommo-o and Zygarde hard even before a Belly Drum boost. Knock Off is a nice option to allow Azumarill to hit Pokemon that resist Aqua Jet, such as Amoonguss and Ferrothorn, and those that can possibly survive Aqua Jet, even at +6, such as Celesteela and Aegislash. Maximum Attack investment with an Adamant nature gives Azumarill the most offensive presence, while maximum HP investment and 4 Defense EVs give Azumarill the best overall bulk. A Brave nature can be worthwhile on a Trick Room-oriented team. If there is Tailwind support on Azumarill's team, 160 Speed EVs can be used to outspeed Mega Metagross under Tailwind. Usage Tips Due to Azumarill being an all-or-nothing Pokemon with Belly Drum, it is best saved for late-game when your opponent's Pokemon are sufficiently weakened so it can successfully sweep their team. You don't want to use Azumarill that much beforehand, or it'll be too low on HP to use Belly Drum. You should also only use Belly Drum when the biggest threats to Azumarill are removed, most notably Tapu Lele, whose Psychic Terrain makes Aqua Jet mostly useless. Using Fake Out or redirection gives Azumarill a much easier time setting up by incapacitating one of your opponent's Pokemon, since due to Azumarill's good defensive typing and solid bulk, most Pokemon are unable to do enough damage on their own to stop a Belly Drum if Azumarill has full HP. Protect is very useful to help keep Azumarill free from harm when the threat of Belly Drum forces your opponent to target it. Protect also lets Azumarill safely bait attacks when boosted because its +6 Attack stat makes it almost always the most immediate threat to the opponent, forcing them to attack or double target Azumarill. Team Options The island guardians, with the exception of Tapu Lele, make good partners for Azumarill because they can cancel out the Psychic Terrain that stops Azumarill's Aqua Jet. Tapu Koko pairs well because it threatens the Water-types that Azumarill can't break easily, and it appreciates Ground-types being removed by Azumarill. Tapu Bulu also makes for a solid partner for Azumarill by removing troublesome Water-types that would otherwise check Azumarill, while Azumarill can remove Fire-types that threaten Tapu Bulu. Redirectors such as Amoonguss make setting up Belly Drum much easier by making your opponent target the redirector instead of Azumarill. Fake Out users such as Incineroar also make setting up Belly Drum easier, since Fake Out means Azumarill only has to worry about one of the opponent's Pokemon while setting up; this strategy has a shared weakness with Azumarill in Psychic Terrain, however, since Fake Out fails on grounded targets in Psychic Terrain. Pokemon such as Transform Mew and Psych Up Metagross can copy and utilize the +6 Attack boost from Azumarill's Belly Drum. If Azumarill is running Knock Off instead of Play Rough, it's crucial that it is partnered with a Pokemon that can deal with Tapu Fini and Tapu Bulu, such as Amoonguss or Heat Wave Zapdos.

Belly Drum allows Azumarill to raise its Attack to astonishing levels, greatly improving its ability to wallbreak. Huge Power doubles Azumarill's mediocre Attack, making it a significant threat. Sitrus Berry grants Azumarill some healing after Belly Drum, making it less susceptible to being revenge killed. Normalium Z, in conjunction with Belly Drum, restores all of Azumarill's health before use, allowing it to Belly Drum more safely if it has already taken chip damage. Even if Azumarill has already set up with regular Belly Drum, it can still use Z-Belly Drum to fully recover its health. Knowing when to Belly Drum is important, as it leaves Azumarill weakened after use. Azumarill doesn't have to set up to be a threat, however. Focusing too much on trying to set up can end up wasting Azumarill's chance of doing anything. Pokemon that can deal with Grass-, Electric-, and Steel-types are greatly appreciated, as they can prevent Azumarill from breaking through opposing teams. Stealth Rock support helps Azumarill by wearing down Pokemon that may switch in while simultaneously breaking Sturdy and Focus Sashes.

Azumarill's immediate power allows it to reliably run Choice Band, granting it incredible wallbreaking abilities. Aqua Jet makes up for Azumarill's poor Speed while allowing it to revenge kill weakened foes. Play Rough is Azumarill's most powerful STAB move, being highly effective against Dark-, Dragon-, and Fighting-types. Superpower is Azumarill's best option against Steel-types, although its stat drops require Azumarill to switch out more often after use. Liquidation is Azumarill's most reliable STAB move, combining the power of Play Rough with the accuracy of Aqua Jet. Alternatively, Knock Off can be run to provide coverage against Ghost-types, notably Aegislash, while allowing Azumarill to provide support to its teammates by removing items from opposing Pokemon. Full Attack investment with an Adamant nature allows Azumarill to fully take advantage of its Huge Power, while maximum HP investment grants it as much bulk as possible. Huge Power greatly improves its Attack stat, making it capable of threatening an opponent's team. Choice Band further increases Azumarill's Attack, making it much more dangerous, although it denies it the opportunity of switching its moves at will. Azumarill is best used early- to mid-game, where it can more easily weaken opposing Pokemon for a teammate to sweep. If needed, Azumarill can also act as an excellent cleaner late-game, capable of sweeping through weakened teams as it does not need to set up. Azumarill struggles against Grass-, Electric-, and certain Steel-types that may switch in, so teammates that can take advantage of them allow Azumarill to more easily break through teams once they are gone. Sweepers make great teammates that appreciate Azumarill's ability to break down opposing teams. Stealth Rock users can help wear down opposing teams for Azumarill to more easily wallbreak or clean.

Azumarill's acceptable bulk allows it to run Assault Vest, allowing it to act as a tank while improving its matchups against special attackers. Aqua Jet and Play Rough are Azumarill's primary STAB moves, with Aqua Jet compensating for its poor Speed while Play Rough being capable of blowing through most neutral targets. Liquidation is a more powerful Water-type STAB. The last moveslot is up to preference. Knock Off lets Azumarill deal with Psychic- and Ghost-types more easily while removing an enemy's item, while Superpower provides much needed coverage against most Steel-types, who otherwise easily switch in on any of Azumarill's moves. Maximum Attack grants Azumarill as much power as possible, wich is especially important as this set lacks ways to improve its Attack. Full HP investment allows Azumarill to deal with special attackers well while also making it as physically bulky as possible. Huge Power is Azumarill's best ability for this set, as it has no other method of boosting its Attack. Assault Vest allows Azumarill to pivot into most neutral special attackers, threatening them in return with its powerful STAB or coverage moves. Teammates that appreciate Azumarill's ability to tank most special attackers are good partners. Even if it can still switch between its moves, Azumarill still struggles against most Steel-, Electric, and Grass-types, although it can more reliably deal with some special attackers. Teammates that can deal with them are nonetheless appreciated. Stealth Rock support wears down opposing teams as they switch in, which helps Azumarill deal with most special attackers that it tanks.

Set Details Sitrus Berry works well with Belly Drum and helps ease setting it up by providing recovery on the off chance Azumarill is forced to take a hit before it sets up. The item also allows Azumarill to act as a pivot in cases where using Belly Drum is not desirable by allowing it to take more damage. Maximum Attack EVs and an Adamant nature are required for Azumarill to hit as hard as possible. 252 Speed EVs allow Azumarill to outspeed up to uninvested base 81 Speed Pokemon, particularly Cyclohm and Necturna. The rest of the EVs are put into HP to get an even number so that Sitrus Berry is activated after using Belly Drum. Huge Power is the only viable ability on Azumarill, as it would be incredibly weak otherwise. Usage Tips To get the most out of Azumarill, use Belly Drum late-game after Azumarill's potential checks and counters, notably Mollux and Plasmanta, have been removed. This way, Azumarill will be able to sweep unhindered, especially if the opposing team has been weakened prior. It's best to preserve Azumarill until it's able to use Belly Drum. Bring Azumarill in after one of your Pokemon is knocked out or on a safe switch through U-turn or Volt Switch. Defensive Pokemon such as Chansey, Clefable, and Garchomp are great targets for Azumarill to set up on, as are Pokemon that are threatened out by Azumarill or otherwise can't damage it effectively, such as Keldeo and Syclant. Even if getting a Belly Drum off is not possible, Azumarill can take advantage of its good bulk and resistances to check Dragon- and Fighting-types, and Sitrus Berry will be able to extend Azumarill's longevity when doing this. Team Options Pokemon that can check Mollux and Plasmanta are necessary when using Azumarill. Ground-types such as Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Colossoil can check both of them reliably, as well as threaten the Steel-types that can trouble Azumarill. Colossoil in particular can use its good bulk and access to Pursuit to remove Plasmanta and Mollux, and it can also help keep entry hazards off Azumarill's side of the field. Entry hazard control is very important when using Azumarill, as Stealth Rock allows Azumarill to drop the majority of its defensive checks into KO range after a Belly Drum boost. Tomohawk, Heatran, and the above mentioned Garchomp and Landorus-T can all set Stealth Rock reliably and can cover some of Azumarill's weaknesses. A teammate that can lure in Pokemon that Azumarill can set up on is greatly appreciated. Special attackers such as Stratagem can lure in specially defensive walls like Chansey, and then Azumarill can come in, often forcing a switch, and use Belly Drum. Other wallbreakers and setup sweepers such as Mega Charizard X, Stratagem, and Aurumoth work well with Azumarill, as they can overwhelm the opponent's defensive cores or weaken the opposing team to allow Azumarill to sweep. Pokemon that can check bulky Water-types can help alleviate the pressure on Belly Drum for Azumarill. Serperior can easily break through most Water-types, and Electric-types such as Rotom-W, Thundurus, and Plasmanta can check Talonflame. Fidgit in particular is a wonderful teammate for Azumarill, as it is the most effective Trick Room setter in the metagame. Azumarill makes for a powerful wincon when under Trick Room and is nearly impossible to stop if boosted, as otherwise sufficient checks such as Mollux and Plasmanta are OHKOed before they can attack and would-be revenge killers like Talonflame are demolished with Aqua Jet.

Moves Play Rough is Azumarill's strongest STAB move and has great coverage with Waterfall, hitting the majority of the tier for neutral damage. More importantly, it allows Azumarill to break through any bulky Water-type that may try to switch into it, such as Rotom-W and Krilowatt. Waterfall gives Azumarill a more reliable STAB option as well as a way to damage Steel-types such as Jirachi and Scizor, and it also helps break through Pokemon Aqua Jet cannot OHKO, such as Landorus-T and Colossoil. Aqua Jet helps offset Azumarill's poor Speed and, in combination with Huge Power and Choice Band, allows Azumarill to act as a powerful revenge killer, picking off frail Pokemon such as Syclant, Weavile, and Stratagem as well as weakened setup sweepers such as Mega Crucibelle. The last moveslot is dedicated to coverage against either Plasmanta and Mollux or Ferrothorn. Knock Off allows Azumarill to punish Mollux and Plasmanta that try to switch into its attacks, crippling any set through the loss of its item and potentially OHKOing Choice Scarf Mollux after Stealth Rock damage. Knock Off also allows Azumarill to remove Leftovers from walls such as Ferrothorn, Slowbro, and Skarmory to help wear them down later in the game. Superpower allows Azumarill to get past Ferrothorn, having a high chance to OHKO it after Stealth Rock damage, as well as hit Magnezone and other Steel-types hard. Set Details Choice Band, Huge Power, and an Adamant nature boost Azumarill's damage output to high levels and give it the firepower it needs to blow apart defensive cores. The EVs allow Azumarill to outspeed uninvested base 70 Speed Pokemon, namely Skarmory, with the leftover EVs pumped into HP after Attack is maxed out. An EV spread of 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe can be used instead to outspeed up to uninvested base 81 Speed Pokemon, notably Cyclohm and Necturna. Huge Power is the ability of choice, as otherwise Azumarill has no offensive presence whatsoever. Usage Tips This set lends itself to a hit-and-run playstyle, coming in on Pokemon Azumarill can threaten early- and mid-game to help wear down defensive cores and put pressure on the opposing team to wall it. Try to preserve Azumarill for use in the late-game, as Aqua Jet has the firepower to clean weakened teams and is useful to ensure your opponent's setup sweepers can be checked. Likewise, use Azumarill throughout the game to revenge kill various Pokemon, especially setup sweepers such as Aurumoth and Mega Charizard- X. Try to avoid being locked into Waterfall or Aqua Jet if your opponent has Mollux or Plasmanta, as they will quickly steal any momentum Azumarill has built up. Knock Off or even a resisted Play Rough will go a long way in removing both of them due to the lack of recovery on Plasmanta and Choice Scarf Mollux. Team Options Azumarill fits best on more offensive teams in need of a powerful wallbreaker and revenge killer. Like most Choice users, entry hazard control is key to prevent Azumarill from being worn down, as it consistently switches in and out. Tomohawk and Colossoil are very capable Rapid Spin users, and Tomohawk can check Grass-types for Azumarill while Colossoil can check Electric- and Poison-types such as Mollux and Plasmanta. Speaking of Mollux and Plasmanta, Pokemon that can force them out or use them as setup bait are ideal to help maintain momentum. Garchomp, Landorus-T, and the previously mentioned Colossoil work well, with the former two setting Stealth Rock on them and Colossoil being able to wear them down with Pursuit. Thundurus, Plasmanta, and Mega Manectric appreciate Azumarill's ability to check Latias and bulky Ground-types such as Colossoil. In return, they can check bulky Water-types such as Rotom-W. Setup sweepers and powerful attackers such as Mega Charizard X, Keldeo, Mega Lopunny, and Stratagem appreciate the pressure Azumarill can put on defensive Pokemon, allowing them to sweep late-game after Azumarill weakens the opposing team.

Moves Play Rough is Azumarill's most powerful STAB move and lets it break past Tomohawk, Keldeo, Cyclohm, and other Fighting- and Dragon-types such as Mega Altaria. Waterfall gives Azumarill a powerful Water-type STAB move to better threaten Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Colossoil. Waterfall forms good coverage with Play Rough in general, as it hits Poison- and Steel-types neutrally. Aqua Jet gives Azumarill a way to better check faster Pokemon such as Stratagem and Syclant and can be used to revenge kill or get chip damage on weakened sweepers such as Aurumoth. Knock Off is the preferred option for the last moveslot, allowing Azumarill to better threaten Slowbro and Jirachi while having the added utility of removing items from its switch-ins. Bulldoze can be used over Knock Off to allow Azumarill to beat Mollux and Plasmanta one-on-one, as Assault Vest allows it to tank any one attack from either Pokemon to then OHKO them with Bulldoze. Superpower can be used to ensure a strong hit on Ferrothorn but may be unable to 2HKO it if used consecutively. Set Details 240 HP EVs give Azumarill enough health to avoid a 4HKO from Seismic Toss. An Adamant nature, 252 Attack EVs, and Huge Power are chosen to give Azumarill as much power behind its attacks as possible. The leftover 16 EVs are put into Special Defense to better complement Assault Vest, which turns Azumarill into a bulky tank and solid check to threats such as Keldeo and Syclant. Usage Tips Take advantage of Azumarill's boosted special bulk by switching into special attackers Azumarill can directly threaten, such as Latios, Latias, Syclant, Keldeo, and Volkraken. Take care not to switch into Scald from Pokemon such as Keldeo and Volkraken, as on the off chance the move burns Azumarill, it will be severely crippled. Azumarill should be used as an offensive tank, switching into Pokemon it threatens such as Mega Charizard X and forcing them out. Despite the lack of a boosting item, Azumarill is still able to do considerable damage, so be sure to take advantage of STAB Aqua Jet to revenge kill weakened Pokemon. Knock Off is an all-around useful move to spam and a great option to help wear down some of Azumarill's common switch-ins. Team Options Ground-types such as Colossoil and Garchomp can help check the Poison- and Electric-type Pokemon Azumarill fears, most notably Plasmanta and Mollux, while Azumarill checks Syclant, Keldeo, and other Ice- and Water-types for them. Colossoil can also remove entry hazards for Azumarill with Rapid Spin, while Garchomp can help rack up residual damage with Stealth Rock and Rough Skin. Similarly, Flying-types such as Tomohawk and Talonflame can check Grass-types that may switch into Azumarill, especially Mega Venusaur, while Azumarill handles Ice-types well in return. Pokemon that threaten Steel-types that may try to wall Azumarill, such as Mega Charizard X, Heatran, and Keldeo, work well as teammates.

Moves Scald is used to get the chip damage on foes, as well as possibly burn them, thus crippling them and wearing them down easily. Toxic can be used to put setup sweepers and walls on a timer, forcing them to switch out. Protect works well in conjunction with Scald + Toxic, as Azumarill can rack up burn and poison damage. It also helps scout for the foe's move. Rest can be used in this slot as a means of recovery, though it is unreliable and Azumarill can easily be taken advantage of when asleep. Perish Song can be used to immediately put both Azumarill and the foe on a timer, thus forcing switches, though Azumarill needs to switch out as well, which can often disrupt momentum. Encore is another option in the final slot to cripple setup sweepers and defensive Pokemon in general locked in a boosting move for the former and a status move for the latter, forcing them to switch out. Knock Off can be used for its utility and ability to hit Psychic-types decently. It removes Eviolites from Pokemon like Porygon2, making it easier for a teammate to deal with them later on. Set Details The EV spread makes Azumarill as bulky as possible. 248 HP and 252 Special Defense EVs as well as a Calm nature are used to allow Azumarill to more easily take on Mega Charizard Y. Sap Sipper is used to make Azumarill a better Grass counter, which Water teams greatly appreciate. 248 HP / 152 Def / 108 SpD can be used, as it makes it easier to take physical attacks, notably from Mega Heracross or the rare Swords Dance + Rock Tomb Breloom, though more Special Defense EVs are appreciated for better special bulk. Usage Tips Switch Azumarill into Grass-type attacks that would've taken a teammate out and to get a handy Attack boost to power up Knock Off. Use Toxic or Perish Song when up against a setup sweeper or a threat to your team to force them to switch out. Spam Scald most of the time in order to spread burns and gain chip damage on the opposing team. It's also useful to cripple setup sweepers and walls if they manage to get burned. Using Encore to lock a setup sweeper into a boosting move can be useful to then cripple them with Toxic or chip away at their health with Knock Off + Scald. Use Protect to stall Perish Song turns and also force the foe to take accumulating burn or poison damage. Team Options Lanturn's a great partner, as it is able to remove status from Azumarill with Heal Bell, which is useful in conjunction with Rest. Lanturn also provides an Electric immunity. Alomomola is able to pass Wishes to Azumarill, improving its longevity. Empoleon is great for setting up Stealth Rock, which works well with the many switches that Azumarill forces. Tentacruel provides Rapid Spin support to keep the hazards you set while removing the ones on your side while also being able to set Toxic Spikes to wear down the foe. Quagsire is a great option for stopping setup sweepers and Taunt users, which would otherwise prevent Azumarill from using Encore, Perish Song, or Toxic to stop them. Pokemon that are able to break through stall teams, which don't mind poison and Azumarill's moves, are appreciated, so Rain Dance Manaphy is a good partner. Since Gliscor is a threat to this set, so Manaphy is a good partner thanks to its ability to take care of it.

Moves Belly Drum maximizes Azumarill's Attack and lets it become a very threatening sweeper. Aqua Jet is its Water-type STAB move and the move it's most likely to use after setting up because of its +1 priority. Play Rough is Azumarill's Fairy-type STAB move and hits very hard even without setup. Knock Off provides great coverage that hits threats such as Doublade, and it also gets rid of the foe's item. Superpower is an alternative option to hit Pokemon such as Empoleon, Ferrothorn, and Chansey harder, but it does lower Azumarill's Defense, making it easier to revenge kill. Set Details 164 EVs in Speed allow Azumarill to outspeed Skarmory and take it out with +6 Knock Off after Stealth Rock. Running 252 EVs in Attack with an Adamant nature maximizes Azumarill's power and wallbreaking capabilities. The remaining 92 EVs give Azumarill an even HP stat, allowing Sitrus Berry to activate after using Belly Drum at full health. Sitrus Berry restores 25% of Azumarill's health when it gets bellow 50%, which is useful when setting up a Belly Drum. Huge Power doubles Azumarill's Attack to make up for its abysmal base 50 stat. Usage Tips Azumarill should be used as a late-game Belly Drum sweeper. It should be kept as healthy as possible and not switched in on attacks if it wants to set up with Belly Drum. If the intention is not to clean with Belly Drum, it can be used as an offensive pivot on moves it resists and pressure the foe, or just set up early-game and wallbreak to open the door for a teammate to clean up. A good opportunity for it to set up would be against Pokemon locked into moves that don't threaten it or against passive Pokemon. It should not attempt to set up against Pokemon that can hit it for super effective damage or inflict it with status, as they will neuter its potential to sweep with Belly Drum. Azumarill should be careful when using Knock Off if it wants to sweep later on because Pokemon such as Skarmory and Ferrothorn are able to survive a +6 Knock Off if their item is gone. Before setting up and attempting to sweep, all threats to Azumarill, such as Mega Venusaur, should be removed. It can pick off weakened foes with Aqua Jet, but the move is pretty weak without the Belly Drum boost, so it should be used carefully. Team Options Klefki has the ability to set up Light Screen and Reflect, which help Azumarill take hits better and set up a Belly Drum. Other things Klefki can do for Azumarill include spread paralysis with Thunder Wave to alleviate its Speed problem and set up Spikes to put foes in range of its attacks. Klefki also has an immunity to Poison, which Azumarill appreciates. Clefable is another Pokemon that can help Azumarill's Speed issue by paralyzing foes with Thunder Wave, and it also has access to Stealth Rock, which breaks Focus Sashes and allows Azumarill to get more OHKOs. Other than that, Clefable can serve as a Calm Mind sweeper, which puts additional pressure on the opposing defensive backbone and makes it much easier to sweep with Azumarill, and a status absorber, which Azumarill heavily appreciates. Togekiss checks Grass-types, which threaten Azumarill and prevent it from setting up, and it has access to Heal Bell, which can get rid of Azumarill's status. Gardevoir can deal with Poison-types that threaten Azumarill. It can also run Healing Wish to give Azumarill another chance at sweeping. Sylveon is a great partner thanks to its wallbreaking capabilities that can let it rip holes in the opposing team and allow Azumarill to sweep. Whimsicott is a stallbreaker and teammate that can provide a lot of utility. Its ability to spread status, Encore foes, and even use Leech Seed for healing creates many extra opportunities to sweep with Azumarill. Mega Diancie prevents entry hazards and status spreading with its Magic Bounce ability, something that Azumarill appreciates because it preserves its health and lets it set up more comfortably.

Moves Belly Drum turns Azumarill into a frightening sweeper, and Azumarill's good bulk allows it to find many opportunities to set up. Aqua Jet makes up for Azumarill's poor Speed and is able to deal a lot of damage after a Belly Drum boost, and Play Rough is Azumarill's strongest STAB move and deals a massive amount of damage to Dragon-, Fighting-, and Dark-types as well as Pokemon that do not resist it. Knock Off is used to provide utility in removing items, as well as providing a way to hit Psychic-types such as Jirachi super effectively. It also hits Ferrothorn neutrally if you decide to forgo Superpower, OHKOing it at +6. Superpower can be used instead, but the Attack and Defense drop is worrisome, and this set functions more as a late-game cleaner rather than a lure or wallbreaker. Set Details 164 Speed EVs are used so that Azumarill outspeeds Clefable and base 70 Speed Pokemon, most notably Skarmory, Jellicent, and Lanturn. Maximum Attack EVs alongside an Adamant nature allow Azumarill able to break past anything after a Belly Drum boost. To improve its overall bulk, the rest of the EVs are dumped into HP. The amount of EVs invested in HP also make it so that the Sitrus Berry is consumed right after Azumarill uses Belly Drum. Sitrus Berry is used so that Azumarill escapes KO range after using Belly Drum, and without it, Azumarill is extremely vulnerable to being KOed or simply revenge killed. On such an offensive set, Huge Power is obviously chosen over Sap Sipper, as Sap Sipper Azumarill is horrendously weak even after Azumarill has boosted with Belly Drum. Usage Tips Ideally, Azumarill should be sent out after counters such as Volcanion have been eliminated so that setting up a Belly Drum is easier. As Azumarill will be using Aqua Jet most of the time to make up for its low Speed, defensive Water checks should be eliminated so that Azumarill can easily sweep. Azumarill's reliance on Sitrus Berry for recovery means that you shouldn't switch it into attacks, no matter how weak you might think they are, in order to keep it as healthy as possible. Similarly, by all means, prevent Azumarill from having its Sitrus Berry knocked off, as without it, Azumarill cannot set up Belly Drum safely. Utilize Azumarill's typing by switching it into Pokemon Choice-locked into a Dragon-type move, as it can then set up Belly Drum easily. Use Belly Drum on a predicted switch so that Azumarill can proceed to sweep. Use Aqua Jet when the foe is low on HP to easily take them out or when the foe is faster than Azumarill and might pose a threat. Spam Play Rough most of the time before the sweep, as it is Azumarill's strongest attack and not many Pokemon resist it. After the sweep, use Aqua Jet to clean up the team. If you opt for Superpower, be wary of how many times you use it; the more you use it, the more Azumarill suffers from stat drops, so using it once or twice to take out a troublesome Steel-type is often enough. Knock Off should be used to cripple Pokemon that rely on their item: Porygon2 or Chansey both require their Eviolite to properly function as walls, and removing it makes them much easier to take out. It's also a nice move to spam in general. Avoid status at all costs. Azumarill might lose a turn due to paralysis, which is incredibly risky; burns cripple it and cause it to hit less hard; and poison wears Azumarill down easily. Keep Stealth Rock and Spikes away from your side of the field, as Azumarill needs to preserve as much health as possible if you want a successful sweep. Team Options When it hasn't used Belly Drum, Azumarill isn't really a wallbreaker, so it's best to have a wallbreaker like Manaphy in the back to break past Pokemon Azumarill struggles with. Manaphy can help with Mega Venusaur as well and can break past the opposing team when it is has set up with Tail Glow. Lanturn and Swampert both provide an Electric immunity, the former also providing Heal Bell support and the latter providing Stealth Rock support. Empoleon or Tentacruel can take Grass-type hits, making them usable teammates for Azumarill. Empoleon also provides Stealth Rock and Defog support, as Azumarill does not like getting worn down at all. Tentacruel provides entry hazard control also, as well as Toxic Spikes and a resistance to Grass. Choice Specs Volcanion is a good partner, as it can break through the foe's team with STAB-boosted Steam Eruption, softening them up as a result and allowing Azumarill to more easily take them out. Dragon Dance Gyarados can sweep alongside Azumarill and can also run Bounce to hit Grass-types. Volcanion helps against Mega Venusaur, a big counter to this set. Rotom-W and Lanturn both bring Azumarill safely in with a slow Volt Switch.

Moves Play Rough is Azumarill's hardest-hitting STAB move, dealing great damage to Pokemon that don't resist it, and is used to hit Dragon-, Fighting-, and Dark-types such as Kyurem-B, Terrakion, and Mega Gyarados, all of which are OHKOed by the move. Aqua Jet provides Azumarill with both priority and the ability to revenge kill weakened threats; it also sets Azumarill apart from other Water-type wallbreakers like Dragon Dance Mega Gyarados. Waterfall is Azumarill's stronger Water STAB move and is used to hit types that resist Play Rough, such as Fire and Steel. For example, it OHKOes Heatran, Infernape, and Excadrill. Superpower hits Steel-types like Ferrothorn that take pitiful damage from the aforementioned STAB moves and also allows Azumarill to break past Normal's Eviolite core of Chansey + Porygon2. Knock Off provides great utility in removing items such as Choice items, Leftovers, and Eviolite and can help Azumarill break past Psychic-types like Jirachi. Aqua Tail, alternatively, can be used as a more stronger, albeit less accurate, Water-type STAB move over Waterfall that is able to 2HKO Skarmory. Set Details Maximum Attack EVs with an Adamant nature, Huge Power, and Choice Band allow Azumarill to hit as hard as possible, turning it into a fierce wallbreaker thanks to the sheer amount of power it has under its belt. 164 Speed EVs are used to allow Azumarill to outspeed non-invested base 70 Pokemon such as Lanturn, Jellicent and Skarmory, though 84 Speed EVs can be used as an alternative option to outspeed base 60 Speed Pokemon such as Clefable. Another alternative is running 252 Speed EVs, which allows Azumarill to outspeed other Azumarill and uninvested Mega Scizor, though Azumarill loses out on bulk if it runs this. The remaining EVs are dumped into HP for general bulk. As this is a wallbreaking set, Huge Power is the best ability, as Sap Sipper Azumarill is ridiculously weak. Usage Tips Azumarill should be used to revenge kill weakened Pokemon with Aqua Jet and also to sweep late-game. Don't switch Azumarill into non-resisted hits, as it should try to maintain as much health as possible. Avoid getting Azumarill burned, as burns cripple Azumarill and make it unable to deal a lot of damage. When Azumarill is not revenge killing, it should be wallbreaking as much as possible, weakening the opponent's team for either itself or a teammate to clean up afterwards. Avoid getting Azumarill paralyzed or poisoned, as Azumarill is already slow and does not at all appreciate losing more Speed, while poison puts Azumarill on a timer and thus prevents it from wallbreaking as much. Take advantage of Azumarill's Fairy typing by switching Azumarill into Dragon-types, such as Choice Scarf Kyurem-B, Choice-locked into a Dragon-type move like Outrage; Azumarill can then OHKO them with Play Rough. Use Knock Off as much as possible to cripple defensive walls by removing their item. For example, removing Leftovers from Alomomola or Eviolite from Porygon2 cripples them by either removing a source of recovery or removing a source of bulk. Sending out Azumarill early-game is also a good option so that it can begin wallbreaking. Team Options As Azumarill struggles against Grass-types, Empoleon makes for a good partner thanks to its Grass neutrality, although it can't do much against said Grass-types. Stealth Rock support by Swampert and Empoleon makes it easier for Azumarill to deal with the foe, as it breaks Focus Sashes and Sturdy and wears down the foe, while Defog or Rapid Spin support allows Azumarill to have an easier time switching in and prevents it from being worn down too much. Rapid Spin support can be provided by Starmie and Tentacruel, the former running Psychic to help versus Mega Venusaur. Swampert also provides an Electric immunity. Lanturn is another good partner thanks to its immunity to Electric; it also provides Heal Bell support, removing status ailments from Azumarill and allowing it to be played more aggressively without the fear of getting burned. Lanturn can also bring Azumarill in through slow Volt Switch, allowing it to preserve its health. Special attackers such as Volcanion can break through physically defensive Pokemon that give Azumarill a hard time such as Skarmory. Volcanion can use Fire Blast to attempt to break past Mega Venusaur. Rotom-W makes for a good partner, as it can safely bring Azumarill in through a slow Volt Switch and also cripple the foe with Will-O-Wisp. Tentacruel provides a Grass-type check for Azumarill while also providing hazard removal and Toxic Spikes support, which is very useful for wearing down the foe. Tail Glow Manaphy appreciates Azumarill wallbreaking so that it can sweep a bit more easily. Gyarados can run Bounce to help Azumarill deal with Grass-types, whereas Mega Gyarados can deal with Psychic-types for it, allowing Azumarill to then run Superpower in the final slot. Mega Sharpedo also helps versus Psychic-types and appreciates Azumarill weakening the foe.

Moves Belly Drum is a high-risk, high-reward move that maximizes Azumarill's Attack and, combined with Aqua Jet, can be deadly. Aqua Jet helps with Azumarill's poor Speed thanks to priority and turns it into a reliable sweeper; a +6 Aqua Jet can OHKO most Pokemon that take neutral damage from it, Mega Metagross and Aegislash being notable exceptions. Knock Off allows Azumarill to get around a few would-be checks like Amoonguss and Ferrothorn, as well as dealing solid damage to highly popular threats Aegislash and Volcanion. Play Rough is Azumarill's best Fairy-type STAB move and allows it to deal respectable damage in the case that it is unable to set up a Belly Drum. Lastly, Protect stalls out field effects and protects Azumarill from its partner's spread moves. It also buys time for its partner to attack. Set Details The EVs and an Adamant nature give Azumarill the most overall bulk and most attacking prowess possible. Sitrus Berry improves Azumarill's longevity and acts as recovery for Belly Drum's HP cut. If Azumarill is being used on a Trick Room team, it should be running a Brave nature and a 0 Speed IV to minimize its Speed. Usage Tips Azumarill works best late-game against weakened teams when it can clean up with Aqua Jet. However, avoid switching it into incoming attacks, as otherwise Azumarill will not have enough HP to use Belly Drum. It should only use Belly Drum if Electric-, Steel-, and Grass-type checks have been removed, when there is a teammate with Fake Out or redirection moves on the field, when foes can't threaten or KO it with 75% of its health remaining, or if a double-protect is predicted. Once its checks are removed, Azumarill can go on a rampage and wipe out entire teams with Aqua Jet and Play Rough. After setting up a Belly Drum, Azumarill becomes one of the opponent's primary targets, which you can often take advantage of. By having Azumarill use Protect to soak up hits and switching its partner out to a Pokemon with redirection moves or Fake Out on the same turn, Azumarill is able to better threaten the opposing team on the following turn. Lastly, Azumarill can beat common Intimidate users such as Landorus-T and Scrafty, but it doesn't appreciate the Attack drop from Intimidate. Team Options Fake Out support can give Azumarill a free turn to set up Belly Drum. Some common Fake Out users include Mega Kangaskhan and Scrafty. Pokemon that can hit Electric-, Grass-, and Steel-types super effectively such as Landorus-T and Kyurem-B are good partners that can cover up Azumarill's weaknesses. Mega Diancie and Kyurem-B are particularly good partners for checking common Electric / Flying type Pokemon such as Zapdos and Thundurus. Heatran and Talonflame are good partners for checking Ferrothorn, which completely counters Azumarill. Heatran can also absorb Will-O-Wisps for Azumarill, allowing it to avoid possible burns. Azumarill can also function on a Trick Room team, where it can work with setters such as Cresselia. Mew can provide Fake Out support to help set up Belly Drum, then it can transform into Azumarill, copying its stats and pressuring the opponent by forcing them to face two +6 Azumarills. Azumarill also enjoys Pokemon with status moves, as paralysis and sleep can help Azumarill set up and sweep. Follow Me or Rage Powder support is also crucial when using Belly Drum, as these moves redirect redirects attacks and give Azumarill time to set up. Jirachi is the primary teammate chosen for Azumarill due to their solid type synergy and Jirachi's ability to redirect Grass-type moves, a weakness of Rage Powder users. Amoonguss is another possible such partner, as it has great synergy with Azumarill, as it can spread status and resists both Electric- and Grass-type moves.

Moves Belly Drum maximizes Azumarill's Attack at the cost of half its HP, granting it the potential to sweep through the opposing team. Aqua Jet provides the set with a priority STAB move that, while initially weak, can OHKO foes after a Belly Drum boost before they can move. It's worth noting that at +6 it still falls short of OHKOing particularly bulky foes like Mega Kangaskhan and bulky Thundurus, though. That's where Play Rough comes in. It provides a secondary STAB move capable of OHKOing the majority of foes that would not be OHKOed by Aqua Jet. Knock Off is an alternative that prevents Azumarill from being walled by foes like Amoonguss and Ferrothorn. However, using Knock Off significantly hampers Azumarill's ability to offensively check certain Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Scrafty. Further, it weakens Azumarill's matchup against Mega Salamence, which is otherwise able to OHKO Azumarill even without a boost. Protect shields Azumarill for a turn, allowing a partner to KO a threat to Azumarill or switch to improve positioning. Set Details Sitrus Berry is an important component to the set, recovering 25% of Azumarill's HP after Belly Drum is used, allowing it to remain reasonably healthy even after setting up. Huge Power pushes Azumarill's Attack stat from subpar to excellent and is required in order to put on offensive pressure. An Adamant nature and 252 Attack EVs are used in order to maximize Azumarill's damage output. Removing any Attack EVs is not recommended, as Huge Power means that Azumarill will lose double the number of stat points compared to other Pokemon. While the bulk EVs may appear complex, they're merely the most efficient distribution of overall bulk possible. With that said, they do notably make Azumarill's HP a multiple of both 4 and 2, which is important for Sitrus Berry. The former makes Sitrus Berry's recovery a greater percentage of Azumarill's total health, and the latter ensures that Sitrus Berry will activate after Belly Drum is used from full health. You may opt to take EVs out of bulk and place them into Speed in order to outpace certain threats after the use of a teammate's speed control move. For example, 92 Speed EVs allow Azumarill to outrun -1 neutral-natured base 70 Speed Pokemon like Breloom, while 12 Speed EVs let it outpace -1 Rotom-A. If Azumarill is used on a Trick Room team, then drop the Speed EVs and use a Brave nature with 0 Speed IVs. Usage Tips Azumarill most often finds the opportunity to set up late-game alongside a redirector or Fake Out user, after the opponent's Electric- and Grass-type Pokemon have been KOed. However, if the opposing team is not particularly threatening to Azumarill, simply leading with it may be the optimal choice; this presents an easy way to get Azumarill onto the field safely and with the proper support. Try to avoid switching Azumarill into damaging moves in order to preserve its HP for setting up with Belly Drum. This means you'll often want to switch Azumarill in after a teammate has been KOed. As for which foes are ideal to start setting up on, Fighting-types and more defensive foes such as Cresselia make prime candidates. Should you feel setting up to be a daunting task but still need Azumarill's coverage, it's still possible to just play Azumarill as a bulky attacker with Sitrus Berry. In that scenario, Play Rough will generally be the superior move choice, as an unboosted Aqua Jet often struggles to do much damage. Team Options A redirection or Fake Out user is essential to grant Azumarill the opportunity to set up. Rage Powder Amoonguss is generally the best choice for redirection, as it resists the Electric- and Grass-type attacks Azumarill is weak to. Alternatives such as Rage Powder Volcarona, which resists Grass, might also be fine depending on your team composition. Fake Out users such as Mega Kangaskhan, Raichu, and Weavile can also protect Azumarill by immobilizing a problematic foe for a turn, which may be all Azumarill needs to set up. Mega Kangaskhan enjoys being defended against Fighting-types by Azumarill's Fairy typing, Raichu can protect Azumarill against Electric-type moves thanks to its Lightning Rod ability, and Weavile does a great job at eliminating the Grass-types that threaten Azumarill. Other allies that can beat the Grass-types that often wall Azumarill, particularly when you're not using Knock Off, are highly desirable. Fire-types such as Heatran, Arcanine, and Mega Charizard Y can hit them hard with their super effective STAB moves. Mega Charizard Y is interesting in that although Drought weakens Aqua Jet, it otherwise threatens Grass-types the most out of the aforementioned three. Flying-types such as Mega Salamence and Talonflame likewise prove effective at eliminating Grass-types. For dealing with the Electric-types that also threaten Azumarill, Ground-types such as Landorus-T, Excadrill, and Mamoswine make great choices. Mamoswine is particularly notable, as its Ice typing further allows it to hit Grass-types hard. Bear in mind, though, that most Ground-types will still struggle against Rotom-W thanks to its Ground immunity and STAB Hydro Pump.

Moves Aqua Jet provides Azumarill with a priority STAB move that is reasonably powerful thanks to the boost from Choice Band. When priority is unneeded, Play Rough pulls through as Azumarill's hardest-hitting STAB move. All three of the types Play Rough hits super effectively are common in the Battle Spot Doubles metagame, making it particularly compelling. Waterfall serves as both a harder-hitting alternative to Aqua Jet and a more consistent backup to the 90% accurate Play Rough. Superpower's high Base Power allows it to OHKO the majority of foes that are hit super effectively by it. Knock Off is an alternative should you need the Dark-type coverage to power through foes such as Aegislash and Cresselia, but being locked into it isn't great, as it loses potency after the first hit. Set Details Choice Band boosts Azumarill's Attack stat by 50%, granting it a substantial increase in damage output. Huge Power is one of the best abilities in the game, as it doubles the user's Attack stat, making it an essential component to an Azumarill set aiming to be as immediately threatening as possible. An Adamant nature and 252 Attack EVs are similarly used to augment Azumarill's damage output. Removing any Attack EVs is not recommended, as they're indispensable to the set's goal, and Huge Power means that the associated stat drop is double that of normal. The remaining investment improves overall bulk as much as possible while ensuring that Jolly Mega Kangaskhan cannot OHKO Azumarill with Double-Edge. If Azumarill is used alongside speed control such as Icy Wind, Speed investment can be increased to better take advantage of it. For example, 92 Speed EVs allow Azumarill to outpace -1 neutral-natured base 70 Speed Pokemon such as Breloom. 12 Speed EVs are also an option to outrun -1 uninvested Rotom-A. If Azumarill is used on a team featuring Trick Room, you may opt for a Brave nature and 0 Speed IVs instead in order to move sooner when under its effect. Usage Tips In comparison to Azumarill's other options, this set has the greatest amount of power for immediate pressure. Try to bring Azumarill out in the mid- to late-game when an allied Pokemon's speed control has taken effect. Even without speed control, this increases the chance that Azumarill can KO weakened foes with Aqua Jet. An alternative approach is to lead with Azumarill with the intent of bluffing the Belly Drum set, with the ideal scenario being that a foe attempts to use a move like Taunt and must take a powerful boosted attack in return. Be mindful of making the right prediction, as being locked into an ineffectual move is an easy way to force Choice Band Azumarill out. This is especially the case when using Superpower, as the stat drops incurred by the move further punish a good switch from your opponent. Team Options Partners that deal with Grass-types are a great starting point when picking teammates for Azumarill, as they're highly problematic for it. Fire-types such as Heatran, Arcanine, and Volcarona can accomplish this, particularly when equipped with Safety Goggles to thwart powder moves such as Spore. Volcarona is a distinctly good partner, as it can support Azumarill with moves such as Tailwind and Rage Powder. Mega Charizard Y is another Fire-type that threatens Grass-types, but be aware that Drought weakens Azumarill's Water-type attacks. Flying-types such as Mega Salamence, Talonflame, and Staraptor are options proficient at handling Grass-types. All three are additionally able to use Tailwind to patch up Azumarill's otherwise mediocre Speed stat. Alternatively, Ice-types such as Weavile, Abomasnow, and Mamoswine can deal with Grass-types using their own super effective STAB moves. Mamoswine, like other Ground-types such as Landorus-T, Excadrill, and Garchomp, moreover provides the benefit of checking Electric-types for Azumarill. Electric- and Grass-type partners such as Thundurus and Amoonguss are also advised in order to deal with Water-types, which Azumarill might otherwise struggle against offensively. Thundurus's ability to provide speed control in Thunder Wave makes it especially useful, while Amoonguss's Rage Powder can defend Azumarill against the Electric- and Grass-type attacks it's weak to.

Moves Play Rough is Azumarill's strongest physical STAB move at 90 Base Power, although its 90% accuracy leaves something to be desired. However, this set also features Waterfall, which grants Azumarill a 100% accurate STAB move to use in situations where the additional power of Play Rough is unneeded to achieve a KO. A Water-type attack also threatens many of the foes that resist Fairy such as Fire-types and some Steel-types such as Heatran. Aqua Jet, while weaker than Waterfall, is useful for picking off weakened foes because of its priority. Knock Off deals good damage to foes such as Aegislash and Cresselia, which take little from Azumarill's other attacks, and has utility in removing items. Superpower's high Base Power allows it to OHKO foes like 4 HP Mega Kangaskhan at the cost of dropping two of Azumarill's best stats in Attack and Defense. It also provides coverage for foes like Ferrothorn, which although not OHKOed by the move, take significant damage from it. Set Details Assault Vest allows Azumarill to more easily switch into special attacks by granting it a 50% boost to Special Defense. Huge Power is an easy ability choice, as doubling Azumarill's Attack stat grants a huge increase to its damage output. An Adamant nature and 252 Attack EVs are used to allow Azumarill to hit as hard as possible. It's not recommended to take any EVs out of Attack, as Huge Power means that each stat point is worth double what it normally is. The remaining EVs are invested mostly in HP to improve overall bulk, moving just enough to Defense for Azumarill to survive a Double-Edge from Jolly Mega Kangaskhan. If you don't mind sacrificing bulk, Azumarill's Speed EVs can be increased to allow it to outpace certain foes after speed control. For example, 92 Speed EVs allow Azumarill to outrun -1 neutral-natured base 70 Speed Pokemon like Breloom, and 12 Speed EVs allow Azumarill to outpace -1 Rotom-A. Do bear in mind that you'll want to avoid giving up too much bulk, since being bulky is the whole point of the set. Usage Tips This set functions as a reliable switch-in against special attackers that threaten Azumarill's allies and deals immediate damage to them in return. For this reason, it should preferably start by being off the field and ready to switch in, rather than be a lead. Since this Azumarill set is the one most debilitated by Intimidate, doing so also helps it avoid the associated Attack drop. Further, it improves the chances of Azumarill picking off weakened foes in the late-game with Aqua Jet. Although lacking STAB, Knock Off will often find itself an excellent choice of move, as the majority of switch-ins to Azumarill's attacks don't appreciate losing their items. Don't be too afraid to take on special attackers that Azumarill has a type disadvantage against. For example, this Azumarill can beat many Thundurus and Gengar one-on-one with the combination of a strong attack followed up by an Aqua Jet. An exception would be against Scald users, as the high chance to burn means Azumarill could potentially be crippled for the remainder of the match. Team Options Azumarill has a hard time dealing with Grass-types, so partners that can handle them are recommended. Fire-types such as Heatran, Arcanine, and Volcarona make good options, particularly when equipped with Safety Goggles to put a stop to the popular Amoonguss. Arcanine is especially notable out of the three, as its Intimidate rounds out Azumarill's defenses by weakening both foes' Attack stats. Volcarona also has access to both Rage Powder and Tailwind as a means of supporting Azumarill. Mega Charizard Y joins the aforementioned Fire-types, although you should bear in mind that Drought weakens Azumarill's Water-type attacks. Flying-types such as Mega Salamence, Talonflame, and Togekiss are just as able to beat Grass-types. All three of the aforementioned are also able to provide Tailwind support to help Azumarill outpace much of its otherwise quicker competition. A final option for dealing with Grass-types is Ice-types such as Weavile, Abomasnow, and Mamoswine, which deal heavy damage to them with their various STAB moves. Mamoswine also joins other Ground-types such as Landorus-T, Excadrill, and Garchomp in being able to check the Electric-types that likewise threaten Azumarill. Landorus-T is notably akin to Arcanine in its ability to provide Intimidate support. Grass- and Electric-types of your own such as Amoonguss and Thundurus may moreover prove valuable for their ability to power through Water-types, which Azumarill might otherwise struggle against offensively. Thundurus additionally provides speed control in the form of Thunder Wave, and Amoonguss can redirect otherwise super effective Electric- and Grass-type attacks aimed at Azumarill with Rage Powder.

Moves Belly Drum is used for boosting Azumarill's Attack stat at the cost of half of its health. Aqua Jet is a priority move and Azumarill's main means of damaging faster opponents. Play Rough is Azumarill's secondary STAB attack and achieves decent neutral coverage with Aqua Jet. The choice between the last three moves depends on your team structure; Waterfall is an alternative STAB option that is more accurate than Play Rough, Knock Off removes troublesome items such as Eviolite and Rocky Helmet, and Superpower gives Azumarill the coverage necessary to get past Ferrothorn. Set Details This EV spread maximizes Azumarill's Attack and overall bulk whilst also giving an even HP stat at level 50; this is important, as it puts it into Sitrus Berry's activation range after Belly Drum is used. The leftover 4 EVs are put into Speed to allow Azumarill to outpace opposing base 50s, such as Chansey, Aggron, Tangrowth and Mega Mawile. The EV spread can be tweaked depending on what you want Azumarill to outspeed; 228 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Def / 12 SpD / 4 Spe with an Adamant nature is the safest due to the large amount of bulk, but points can be moved from HP into Speed to outpace faster threats; for instance, 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe with an Adamant nature allows Azumarill to outspeed Pokemon with an uninvested base 65 Speed stat while still keeping Azumarill's HP at an even number. This jump point encompasses Pokemon such as Scizor, Tyranitar, Abomasnow, and Clefable, greatly improving Azumarill's matchup against them and making it less dependent on Aqua Jet. Huge Power is Azumarill's preferred ability for all of its sets, as it doubles Azumarill's Attack stat, bringing it from a middling 112 to a much more impressive stat of 224, allowing it to do much greater damage than it would be capable of with either of its other two abilities. Sitrus Berry synergizes well with Belly Drum, recovering 25% of Azumarill's health when it has 50% HP or less remaining. This leaves Azumarill at the maximum possible amount of HP after boosting and makes it more likely to survive oncoming attacks during its sweep. Usage Tips Despite its bulk, Belly Drum Azumarill can sometimes be a risky Pokemon to play with due to the health lost while setting up and the free turn required to do so. However, there are several Pokemon in the format that cannot significantly hurt Azumarill with certain attacks and as such make good setup opportunities: examples include Heatran, Mega Sableye, Hydreigon, Tyranitar, and Garchomp locked into Outrage or Rock Tomb. Because the list of setup opportunities for Azumarill is quite specific, some scouting is usually required before Azumarill can commit to a sweep by clicking Belly Drum. However, if you have other viable win conditions, Azumarill can be used effectively as an early hole puncher. At +6, Azumarill's Aqua Jets are strong enough to do solid damage to a significant portion of the format. Due to this, it makes a fine win condition, especially against slower teams. However, Azumarill still has difficulty breaking through Pokemon such as Cresselia, Mega Venusaur, Zapdos, Ferrothorn, and Porygon2 without prior damage. This is where scouting can be useful: if these threatening Pokemon can be knocked out or sufficiently damaged, Azumarill can easily clean up with its moves. While clicking Belly Drum and spamming Aqua Jet can be tempting, there are occasions where Azumarill can hold off on boosting and save its item (and its health) for a later opportunity. Aqua Jet makes Azumarill a fairly effective revenge killer, and there will also be occasions where it's wiser to simply damage the opponent rather than go for the boost and risk having Azumarill faint. Team Options While Azumarill is strong, its base 50 Speed is lackluster and makes it easy to revenge kill. As such, plenty of faster Pokemon can stop its sweep, either by resisting Aqua Jet or possessing faster priority. Azumarill's main concern is opposing Grass-types: if they outspeed it, they are capable of easily taking a +6 Aqua Jet and OHKOing in return with a STAB Grass-type move. Azumarill also has trouble with Talonflame, as Choice Band Brave Bird easily does enough damage to OHKO Azumarill after the HP loss from Belly Drum. For these reasons, Heatran makes a very effective teammate for Azumarill, as it resists both of Talonflame's STAB types and also walls many common Grass-types, including Venusaur, Ferrothorn, and Roserade. They also synergize defensively and Azumarill can beat Heatran's answers, including Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Conkeldurr, in return. Electric-types make good teammates for Azumarill thanks to their above-average Speed stats, passable physical bulk, and resistance to priority moves such as Bullet Punch and Brave Bird. Mega Manectric in particular excels at this role thanks to its ability, Intimidate, which allows it to switch in on priority for Azumarill and remove the threat with its coverage. Pokemon like Garchomp, Mamoswine, Excadrill, and Landorus-T are useful supporters for Azumarill thanks to their positive matchup against Electric-types with their immunity to Electric-type moves and STAB Earthquake; however, Garchomp and Landorus must take care around carriers of Hidden Power Ice. Azumarill doesn't like to take damage if it can avoid it, as too much can keep it from successfully getting a Belly Drum off. For this reason it appreciates Volt Switch or U-turn support from teammates such as Assault Vest Landorus-T and Raikou. Finally, this variant of Azumarill benefits a lot from Mega Gengar, which can switch in on Grass- and Poison-type moves and trap and remove problematic Pokemon such as Zapdos, Cresselia, Mega Slowbro, Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Venusaur, Ferrothorn, and Serperior for Azumarill. In turn, Azumarill can dispatch Dark-type Pokemon that threaten Gengar, such as Hydreigon and Tyranitar.

Moves Aqua Jet is Azumarill's priority STAB attack and its main revenge killing tool; Waterfall doesn't benefit from increased priority like Aqua Jet does, but it is a much more powerful attack; Play Rough has stellar coverage with Azumarill's Water-type move and is the hardest-hitting attack on the set; Knock Off removes the items of Pokemon like Porygon2; and Superpower allows Azumarill to hit Kangaskhan, Ferrothorn and Mega Aggron for super-effective damage. Set Details Huge Power is mandatory on a physical attacker, set as it doubles Azumarill's otherwise mediocre base 50 attack stat, making Azumarill into a formidable threat, especially when equipped with a Choice Band, which adds a further multiplier of 1.5x, making Azumarill's attacks monstrously strong. With this level of power, there's no reason not to max out Attack; otherwise, you can adjust Azumarill's HP and Speed investment depending on what you want to creep, but the hit-and-run nature of the set makes maxing out bulk the most practical choice. Therefore, running 228 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Def / 12 SpD / 4 Spe is your safest bet, as it maximises Azumarill's bulk while still maintaining the maximum possible power. Other options include a 244 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Spe spread which grants Azumarill another point of Speed, giving you more assurance against other base 50s that may be trying to Speed creep. 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe is another spread to consider for outpacing uninvested base 65 Pokemon such as bulky Scizor. Usage Tips Choice Band Azumarill works rather differently to the All-Out Attacker despite being almost identical in every way other than the item choice; it trades the flexibility of a defensive item for the immediate strength of a Choice Band. The biggest draw of the Choice Band set is the ability to switch in and do immediate damage with a very powerful Aqua Jet, which can 2HKO many of the targets hit neutrally in the format and can OHKO some frailer threats such as Mega Blaziken. On top of that, Azumarill's Play Rough is incredibly hard to switch into when boosted by a Choice Band. With great power, however, comes great responsibility; the move-locking side-effect of the Choice Band places much more emphasis on predicting correctly, as it is very easy to force Azumarill out if the opponent does have a switch-in for its moves (such as Ferrothorn or Zapdos). Be sure to take advantage of Azumarill's typing and natural bulk to bring it in on things that cannot threaten it (such as Hydreigon or Blaziken) and use the free turn to damage the switch-in with a powerful STAB Waterfall or Play Rough. Team Options Choice Band Azumarill needs to switch in and out a lot, but it lacks recovery; while it can switch in on a hit and tank it well, it can't do so repeatedly. For this reason, it's a good idea to bring some methods of getting Azumarill safely onto the field with minimal damage. Pokemon that bait attacks that Azumarill doesn't mind taking are useful here; for example, Salamence can lure in Dragon-type moves or weak Rock-type coverage from Garchomp and switch to Azumarill, which can shrug off either option easily. U-turn, Volt Switch, and Baton Pass are also good for getting Azumarill safely onto the field when used by slow, bulky Pokemon such as Scizor, Sylveon, and Rotom-W. As with the Belly Drum set, Choice Band Azumarill really appreciates the support of Mega Gengar, as it can trap problematic Pokemon such as Cresselia, Ferrothorn, and Zapdos and remove them so that they can't switch in on Azumarill and force it out. Likewise, Azumarill deals with Dark-type attackers for Gengar.

Moves Aqua Jet is a STAB priority move that allows Azumarill to bypass its low Speed, hit faster attackers, and finish off weakened attackers. Waterfall and Play Rough are its main STAB options and main means of dealing damage. Knock Off gives Azumarill a utility option in removing key items such as Leftovers, Sitrus Berry, Choice items, Eviolite, and Rocky Helmet, while the main alternative, Superpower, gives it a way to hit Ferrothorn and Porygon2 super effectively. Set Details An Adamant nature and maximum Attack investment help to make Azumarill as threatening as possible. The EV spread maximizes Azumarill's overall bulk and allows it to outspeed opposing base 50s. An alternative spread of 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Def with an Adamant nature can be used to guarantee that Azumarill survive a 252+ Mega Salamence Double-Edge from full HP and KO back most of the time with Play Rough and Aqua Jet. The choice of item is determined by the purpose you want Azumarill to fulfill: Lum Berry is a technical option that allows Azumarill to get the jump on Pokemon like Breloom and Sableye, which otherwise threaten it with their status moves, while Assault Vest boosts Special Defense and grants Azumarill the ability to check both of Charizard's Mega Evolutions - the Assault Vest allows Azumarill to comfortably survive Mega Charizard Y's Solar Beam and KO back with Waterfall followed by Aqua Jet. A third option that can be considered is Life Orb: the damage boost allows Azumarill to do upwards of 90% to Life Orb Blaziken with Aqua Jet and makes Azumarill harder to switch into overall; however, it loses out on a lot of its bulk thanks to the recoil and makes moves such as Toxic, Will-O-Wisp, and Scald much more of a concern for Azumarill. Usage Tips This variant of Azumarill is geared less towards sweeping and extreme power and more towards being a reliable switch-in to attacks aimed at Azumarill's teammates. This means that this variant of Azumarill isn't quite as reliant on support from it's teammates as other variants are; the all out attacker set should therefore be used as a bulky pivot and hole-puncher, switching in on resisted attacks and getting immediate damage off with its moves. This set is similar to the Belly Drum set in that it has a positive matchup against Dragon-, Dark- and Fire-types like Hydreigon, Tyranitar, Heatran and Mega Charizard X, but takes a more immediate approach to attacking: while the Belly Drum build sets up on a Pokemon it threatens and then attempts to take out the switch-in with a +6 attack, the all out attacker simply fires off an attack into the switch-in and then responds accordingly. For this reason, this set isn't as scared of Pokemon like Zapdos and Ferrothorn, as it can damage them on the switch-in and then respond by either switching into a teammate to take an incoming attack or attacking again, depending on how much prior damage they've taken. Team Options While this Azumarill set is quite resilient, it still suffers from a few issues inherent in physical Water-type attackers: Grass-types, priority abuse, physical tanks, and Electric-types still give it a hard time. However, all-out attacker Azumarill makes for a more reliable switch-in, so it can support it's teammates as well. Landorus-T, Zapdos, Garchomp, Thundurus, Mega Manectric, Raikou, Aegislash, and Heatran are all solid Pokemon that complement Azumarill's weaknesses and that can get strong hits off on the things that beat it, while Azumarill can do the same in kind.

This is the bread and butter set for Azumarill, and it's easy to see why. Aqua Jet is the vital move of this set, allowing Azumarill to nail faster Pokemon such as Infernape, Excadrill, Landorus, as well as several other Pokemon. Waterfall hits harder than Aqua Jet, and gives Azumarill a STAB move to use when Aqua Jet doesn't get the KO. Ice Punch nails Dragon-types, such as Garchomp, Latias, and Hydreigon, which is a plus, considering the latter two resist Aqua Jet. Superpower can be used to hit Abomasnow and Ferrothorn harder than Ice Punch, as well as to hit other Steel-type Pokemon. However, Protect can be used to shield Azumarill from opposing attacks, keeping it alive for later in the match. The Speed EVs are used to make sure Azumarill outpaces 0 Speed Tyranitar. Maximum Attack EVs are used to make the most of Huge Power. The remainder are used in HP to make Azumarill bulkier. However, there are other EV spreads Azumarill can use; an EV spread of 84 HP / 252 Atk / 172 Spe can be used to outspeed base 70s, though the loss of bulk is significant. 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD with 0 Speed IVs make Azumarill usable in Trick Room thanks to its low base 50 Speed. The choice of item is up to what the team needs; with a Choice Band, Azumarill's Attack will skyrocket, though this means Azumarill is locked into one attack. Wacan Berry, however, can be used to sponge Electric-type attacks from Zapdos and Thundurus, giving Azumarill time to KO with Waterfall and Aqua Jet. Azumarill, as it cannot nail Pokemon such as Jellicent, needs support to be effective. Thus, teammates that can beat Pokemon such as Jellicent and Electric-types are useful. Zapdos is a good example, as it has Hidden Power Ice or Flying to deal with Grass-types, and a STAB Thunderbolt to deal with Jellicent. Another good partner is Tyranitar, as the Special Defense boost thanks to sandstorm means it can take Electric-type attacks. However, sandstorm damage takes a toll on Azumarill. Dragon-type Pokemon, such as Hydreigon, also make great partners, as they can nail Jellicent and resist Grass- and Electric-type attacks. Partners with Lightningrod also help, though most, such as Raichu and Zebstrika, are really frail. Thunder Wave support is a must for Azumarill to outspeed Pokemon such as Latios and Weavile; Cresselia is a prime example, as it is bulky enough to use Thunder Wave multiple times.

This set is a bit harder to use in UU than in standard, because most Pokemon are either really offensive or use Toxic, and nearly everything is faster than Azumarill. Gligar and Solrock sort of wall this set, but Azumarill learns Ice Beam and STAB Water moves to remedy that.

If you can predict, this might work. Azumarill is really slow and has low defenses though, and no STAB on any physical move. Like with the first set, it should be brought in on Waters. Focus Punch can do major damage sometimes.
